I See You (Chapter 2)
AO3
Previous Chapter
Pairings: Yandere/Dark! Sully Family X f!Reader
Summary: You know that after the Sully brothers found you, your life will never be the same again. A part of you want to forget about your past and start a new life with this obsessed family, but your past is not very happy about it. No matter where you run, your past hunts you down, and you are not sure if your new protective family can protect you from it.
Warnings: Only this chapter's pairings and warnings, yandere, obsession, possession, kidnapped reader, intense jealousy, being overprotective, brother fight, mild blood, butt slapping as punishment, emotionally hurt Lo'ak, small sized/shaped reader, major (18/21) teen reader/Neteyam/Lo'ak, sorry if i missed anything
A/N: I've changed my narrative to 3rd person. (omniscient narrator? idk exactly the correct English word) I've wanted to see through the reader's mind at first but I've changed my mind. I want to be able show what is going through the minds of the characters. I'll go like this till the end of the series.

Neteyam's highly nervous body relaxed. You could hear his relieved breathing. He closed his eyes and threw his head back a little. He would hide you until he made his mother change her mind. He would find something, anything. But there was no way he would ever let her to hurt you. He didn't think about why he felt that way. What he knew was that he wanted to protect you. Why would hurting you be a solution? It didn't matter how he felt about you or what he thought. For one thing, it was wrong for her to consider an obviously defenseless creature like you as a threat. It was definitely not personal, he told himself.
Lo'ak looked at you pensively from afar.
A new sister.
A human sister.
At last! Spider had a human sister too!
Although he was happy about this, his mother worried him. She never wanted Spider and she saw him as a potential trouble. She had every right to be worried though, but you... She liked you. Yeah, his mother indeed liked a human. Maybe you could have warmed up the coldness between her and Spider, who knew.
But she wasn't the only one who liked you.
Neteyam.
His golden brother Neteyam.
He was about to take you just like he took everything Lo'ak had, wasn't he? And the worst was that their father always blamed him first. Even now. He called his name! By making a clear implication that Lo'ak might harmed you. How convinced he was that Neteyam was the one who was protecting you.
It disgusted him.
He wanted to come to you, take your tiny hand and pull you away from his brother. But after giving his father a brief look, he changed his mind. He let the flowers in his hand slip through his fingers.
You could tell that things weren't so great between him and his dad.
"Follow your mother. We're gonna talk a little here." Jake said.
"Yes, sir." They agreed unwillingly.
Yes sir? Why did they say 'yes sir' to their father? You frowned in confusion and looked at him. Did the Na'vi call their father 'sir'? It didn't sound warm at all. Very, very cold. You hated it.
"What's with the face?" He said amusedly, approacing you. You couldn't notice that your face had turned sour, almost challenging.
You looked at him, feeling like you were stretching your head to the sky, and you couldn't help but be horrified by his huge height. There was a softness in his eyes that contrasted with his hard lines. It spread to his lips. He put his hands up in an attempt to reassure you. "Someone's moody, huh?"
You kept frowning and his smile grew even more.
For a while he communicated only from where he was. He knew that if he approached you, you would instantly try to run. He asked your name, where you came from, your family, every question you could think of, but you didn't answer. He even doubted for a moment whether you understood him or not. But no, you did understood him. You just didn't say a single word. Were you mute? He didn't want to ask that. Not now.
When he took a step slowly, you turned around and jumped forward with all your strength. You knew that he would catch you. But maybe if you veered to the right or left, he would have missed you. What a naive thought it was.
He grabbed you by the arms as soon as you turned your back. He lifted you into the air. Oh, it was really high and you were like a toy in his hands. You kicked the air and whimpered. You wanted to scream, but your breath sticked in your throat. "If you want to get on the ground, promise to behave."
No, you didn't like it.
You wanted to touch the ground, but you didn't want to listen to him. Still, it seemed that you had no choice. You nodded and he gently put you down. He took a step back to give you some room. "That's it, calm down. I just wanna talk before we go."
He put you down only for you to try to run away again.
"Oh, come on!" he hissed.
He grabbed you again and threw you over his shoulder this time. When he slapped your butt, you gasped in surprise. "You're going to cost us a lot of trouble, aren't you?"
Did he just-, did he-
Oh, he did. He did slapped your butt.
You hit him on the back to get him to put you down, you tried to throw kicks, but it was useless. There was nothing you could do but watch the beautiful forest while he took you to his home with big steps. He didn't talk to you. It was a quite trip. But you took this silence as a threat.
What were they going to do to you?
You didn't want to find out, and you clung to his hair with a fear that filled you. And he was confused because it hadn't occurred to him that you could do that. You pulled his hair hard and tried to hurt him as much as possible. You even held his braid, but he definitely didn't like it.
"HSSS!"
You thought he was going to pull you down when he grabbed you by the waist, so you pulled your hands away. Another stupid decision. He put you down, and got on top of you. Of course, he didn't put his weight on you. He grabbed your tiny wrists and pulled you towards his chest. He tied them up from behind. Then he held your upper arms firmly, leaned into your ear. "Be a good girl." he said a little harshly.
He looked at your tiny body trapped in his giant one. You were little. You were a rebel girl who defied him despite her tiny body. Your heart was strong, you didn't listen, you didn't give up hope. "You remind me of my younger self. But not exactly."
He stood up and took you in his arms instead of throwing you on his shoulder. "You also remind me of my younger son Lo'ak. But not exactly."
Silence again. He just walked and didn't speak.
You didn't make a scene. You didn't have a chance to escape anyway. Actually, there never was, but you kept trying.
You didn't know if the time passed quickly or if he was fast, but you got to their home. It was much more beautiful than the part of the forest where you got lost. And there was a family that welcomed you.
"Kiri, look! She's so tinyyy." Tuk jumped where she was and shook her sister's arm. How small the people were! This has always amused her. Your age was probably as old as her brothers', but despite this, your body was the size of a child Na'vi.
"Yeah, she is." Kiri murmured. She couldn't take her eyes off you. She was always in an interaction with Eywa that no one could understand. Your presence ignited this interaction, gave a strange feeling that evoked both heaviness and lightness in her heart. She could feel Eywa 'spinning' around you. The reason for this, unfortunately, was unclear to her.
"You are late." Neytiri said.
"We had some little disagreements." He looked at you. "I guess she didn't like me."
He smiled when you frowned at his last imply.
"So you scared her." Neytiri came closer to took you from Jake's arms. When she realized that your hands were tied behind your back, she put her hand to her mouth and gasped. "Oh, Jake! What did you do?"
She immediately put you down and untied your wrists, and then took you in her arms. "I can't believe you did this. Why?" There was disappointment in her voice, but she was harsh.
"You can't imagine how fierce she is. She's a real troublema-"
"No! It can't be your way."
"No-" Jake gave a deep breath and wanted to explain himself but then gave up. "I'll explain to you later."
Neytiri look at you. How big she was compared to you. She rocked you in her arms, same as she were holding her own child. There was no sign of the woman who considered you a threat a few hours ago. She smiled as she held you carefully.
She smiled.
And she smiled very beautifully.
You didn't realize that a Na'vi could be so beautiful. Obviously, she thought the same thing about you. You were very beautiful, too. She realized this, thanks to Eywa.
"How do you feel, my child?" She raised her head a little, making her voice clear and strong.
You didn't expect her question. You just looked at her and blinked.
"Are you afraid?"
You thought about lying when she looked directly into your soul. Her eyes were really sharp and it scared you so much that you couldn't even hide your true feelings. You nodded slowly.
Neytiri softened her expression. She didn't want you to feel the fear. You were Eywa's gift. "You no longer have any reason to be afraid, my child. You are family now."
She said some things that you didn't understand. She seemed like praying, she closed her eyes and whispered. Others were listening.
"Jake." She opened her eyes when she finished. She put you on the ground and left you with their children. Jake followed her and patted your head when he passed. His hand was much bigger than your head and you thought it would crush you.
Being alone with four Na'vi teen didn't make you feel any better. Your form, which stood ready to run away at any moment, did not help them either. Tuk ran in front of you and grabbed you by the arms. "Don't go, please."
"No, Tuk. Don't do it. She's already so scared." Neteyam saved you from his little sister and pressed you to himself. You hugged his legs like you did before and looked at Tuk.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I forgot that your heart is also tiny."
You didn't want the visibly upset child to feel even worse. You left Neteyam's legs and gently held Tuk's hand. You were a little hesitant about it, but she was just a kid. You felt like you had to be nice to her. When her smile instantly appeared on her face, you smiled a little too. There was something about this girl that cheered you up. You couldn't be angry with her or afraid of her. At least for now, everything seemed to be fine.
"Hey, c'mon, let me take you somewhere you'll be comfortable." Lo'ak couldn't hide the irritation in his voice. Neteyam always had to came forward, right? He always knew the right thing, he was always the leader. Lo'ak had no problem with him being responsible, but he hated the way Neteyam pulled you towards him.
Lo'ak didn't care about his brother or Tuk. He came to you quickly and opened his arms, leaning. "Come here."
"No." Neteyam stretched his arm straight towards Lo'ak's chest and threw a light blow at him, knocking him back. Away from you. "Stay where you are."
Lo'ak's eyes flashed with anger. When he hissed, he pushed his brother and knocked him to the ground. "Why are you the only one who is untouchable?"
"Lo'ak stop!" Kiri shouted and tried to pull him back.
And Tuk scared, he ran to his brother on the ground and checked if he was okay. Yes, he was okay. Neteyam was extremely okay actually. His patience overflowed, he stood up and angrily walked over to Lo'ak. Kiri put her hands on the chests of both of them and pleaded wearily. "Now is not the time!"
Neteyam leaned over Lo'ak's face and hissed. "You're acting like a child."
Lo'ak took a long look at his brother and pushed Kiri to the side.
"Wait, calm down." Although Kiri objected, Lo'ak waved his hand that he was fine and pushed her away softly. He needed to be alone. If he left for a while, he could talk to you.
After he looked at your worried face, he turned around and walked away. There was a place where he liked to spend time alone. Yes, he decided to go there. Maybe one day he would take you there too. A lot of fun together-
"C'mon, put your legs around my waist. Let's get you out of here." Neteyam said.
Oh, no.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
What a selfish, two-faced...
Lo'ak's mind, which had barely calmed down, was filled with anger again. But this time with intense jealousy and betrayal. He turned back and grabbed his brother by the shoulder, who leaned down and opened his arms to you. He punched him hard in the face and nearly caused him to fall.
You screamed at what happened and jumped backwards. While Kiri was running to separate the two, Tuk hugged you. You didn't know if she hugged because she was scared.
"What's wrong with you?" Kiri screamed and held Neteyam's face but he pushed her away gently. He touched his bleeding nose and shook his head. "Okay, that's it."
He pushed Lo'ak hard, but he jumped to the other side of his brother before he lost his balance too much. When he wanted to throw another punch, Neteyam grabbed his hand and pushed him hard to the ground.
He pressed his arm against his brother's chest and held him steady. "No, you're not acting. You are still a child."
"What the hell is happening here? Lo'ak?" Jake said.
Neytiri went towards to Tuk and you. She hugged you both. How vulnerable you looked hugged each other. "Oh, my babies."
Neteyam got up on top of Lo'ak and grabbed him by the arm to help his brother, but Lo'ak refused him in anger and got up on his own. They both stood facing their father with their heads down. "What the hell was that about?"
Neteyam, who spoke almost all the time, remained silent. He couldn't say it was because of you. He couldn't take the blame too.
"What did you do to your brother's nose?" he raised his voice.
"Jake." Neytiri called out, pointing at you. She shook her head, meaning not now.
"Alright... We're not done yet." Jake said by looking into Lo'ak's eyes and left.
Neytiri followed Jake, taking you and Tuk. Kiri watched her brothers for a while. They stood quietly and looked everywhere besides themselves. She opened her mouth several times to say something, but gave up.
Soon Kiri left them alone. They weren't sure how long their long silence lasted. But Lo'ak couldn't bear to be alone with him anymore. "Sometimes I hate you."
Not seeing Neteyam's hurt expression, he quickly walked away and left his brother alone.

For Sam x reader.
Ghostface is back and had followed the Carpenters, the twins, and Amber's older sister, Reader, to New York. No one trusting her because of the fact that her little sister was Ghostface, Reader is in disbelief, and Sam breaks up with her on the spot. Fast forward to the end, where Ghostface is dead, everyone's being treated by paramedics, Reader is seen walking away from the scene alone. Kirby asks where she is, Sam then sees her walking away, holding her broken arm to her body, and runs after her and apologies for not trusting and believing her. (Reader saying it's too late for sam to apologize. She then walks away from her friends, from Sam.)

You stood before Amber’s Ghostface outfit, reaching out to touch the fabric before you remembered where you were -- who you’re with. The glares given to you by the rest of the group burned at the back of your skull. You can practically sense their judgments. Since the first Ghostface attack in New York, they pointed their fingers at you. You understood, given what you've all been through. Can't be too careful. You didn’t care that you saw the contempt on your own girlfriend’s face. You stayed by her side, understanding where she was coming from.
Being related to a previous Ghostface was something you and Sam had in common. When you are linked to a person with that track record, it sticks with you even if you are different from them. Trust becomes hard to give. And out of everyone, you figured your girlfriend is the one who understood the most about what it’s like. However, it looks like the sentiment isn’t shared.
She approaches you, getting the courage to ask, “Can we talk?”
You can tell what’s about to happen before Sam can utter what she wants to say to you.
Nothing good ever comes out of conversations like these.
“I’m sorry.” Sam stares, her gaze cold, nothing like the Sam you fell in love with. With each deafening step she takes away from you, your heart shatters just a little bit more. You are wounded by the way she’s looking at you. Any wound or injury you might sustain in the next few minutes will not compare to the poison laced in the invisible knife held against your throat by the woman you love. “I can’t take any more chances. I can’t trust you. We’re done.”
You scoff, glancing towards the group in hopes that they would back up your claim. “Sam, you know me. I would never hurt you or Tara or. . . Anika.”
Mindy flinches at the mention of her girlfriend’s name. Her stare hardens. “You have no right to say her name. We know you did it. You killed her.”
“Mindy…” Your voice breaks as your throat feels like it’s closing up. You can’t do anything to convince them, letting the stream of tears flow from your eyes. No one came to your rescue to prove your innocence. None of them trusted you. You felt pathetic, humiliated, embarrassed. Your eyes settle on Sam again. “Really? After everything we’ve been through together, you-”
Sam glowers. “It’s over, Y/n. Please, stay away from us.”
“Fuck you.” You turn your back, the hurt in your tone clear as day. “I don’t know you at all.”
“Maybe we didn’t know each other as well as we thought.”
It was one thing for you to walk away and another knowing that Sam would not be going after you.
-
“It was easy luring you away from the group. Guess we really can’t choose our family, huh?” Ghostface makes a tsk sound, the voice changer turned off.
He takes a step forward, but you stay positioned adjacent to the wall. That voice…
“Ethan?”
Ethan removes his mask, holding the voice changer to his lips, “Didn’t expect that?”
Of course it was him. Little by little, the pieces fall into place. The apartment attack -- that was probably Ethan. He wasn’t with the group. Not even the skeptic Mindy questioned his whereabouts. Your tears haven’t dried yet and you were as sure as hell they weren’t going to stop now. You bring your hands together in a slow clap. “Oh, wow, that’s… Fucking brilliant, actually.” Clutching your stomach, you let out what sounded like a painful cackle. “This is the part where I die.” You say. It wasn’t a question, but a statement.
“Oh no, no, no. See, that’s where you’re wrong.” Ethan smirks, gripping your left arm, applying pressure to where you had been previously injured a couple nights prior. “You are our scapegoat. I must give credit to Mindy for the idea. You have the perfect motive to be Ghostface! It was just gonna be Sam, but… The press would go crazier if it was a Bonnie & Clyde situation. Not that I care about that sorta stuff. It just works.”
You collect the saliva from your mouth, spitting in his eye. “Jokes on you ‘cause we’re not together anymore.”
“But they wouldn’t know that because by the time you get ‘caught’, all of your friends will be dead and you would look like the asshole trying to save yourself if you attempt to say the truth.”
Ethan places his free hand on your shoulder, pulling your arm with more force than necessary to guarantee that it would break. You stand there, biting your lip in order to hide the pain. If I screamed, it wouldn’t make a difference anyway, you said to yourself bitterly. There’s not a single person who’d give me the benefit of the doubt. In fact, they’d make me suffer worse, believing that Ethan did the right thing. Who knows what creative scenarios he came up with already.
-
The paramedics found you slumped down beside a row of chairs after Sam and the rest of the group defeated the three Ghostfaces. They wondered why you weren’t with the others, but with a quick word from Kirby, they left you alone, guiding you outside to treat your broken arm. One of the paramedics - Theo (that’s what you heard Kirby call him) asked if you wanted a ride to the hospital. You declined, insisting that you could get there yourself without anyone’s help.
You spare Sam a glance, observing her interact with Mindy, Chad, and Tara. Core Four. Good for them. Although you were glad that they are are still extant, you can’t stop the rancor that you feel as you stare at the four. You want nothing more than for this day to be over, move to someplace else, maybe change your name. Anywhere is better than here. It’s become clear to you how unwanted you are in New York. A change of scenery might do you good.
Kirby (the only person who hasn’t treated you like scum) situates herself in front of Sam, “Hey, where’s Y/n?”
Sam only notices your absence when Kirby pointed it out. “Shit. I…” She scans the area in search of your familiar eyes, guilt eating at her knowing that she accused you of being a killer. Because of that, you got hurt. She’d never forgive herself for it. “I'll be right back.”
The blonde detective nods in understanding. “I’ll stay with Tara.”
“Thank you.”
You were on your way to the hospital when a hand grasps your injured arm. Recoiling from the touch, you look back to curse the one responsible for hurting your limb only to meet Sam’s pleading gaze. “What do you want, Samantha?”
“Y/n, I just wanted to say that I’m sorry for being careless, for not trusting or believing you. If I had, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt.” Sam touches your good shoulder this time, expressing her genuine apology.
But no matter how many ‘I’m sorry’s’ she will direct at you, it won’t take away what’s been done. “It’s too late, Sam.”
“What? No. We can try again.” She pleads desperately.
You couldn’t bite back the words the words that are on the tip of your tongue, feeling the last ounce of self control fray away. “Try again? Do you hear how ridiculous that sounds? You broke up with me because you didn’t trust me. You didn’t even try to understand my side!” The news reporters turned their heads at your outburst. They point their cameras to you, but you don’t make an effort to cut off your ebullition short. “All of you pointed your hands at me because what? I’m the sister of a killer?! If we’re basing our suspicions of all the Ghostface’s relatives, you should’ve been on the top of the list. The only thing I asked was for you to stand by me and you failed. So, no, we can’t try again. We’ll only end up worse than where we left off.” You finish, walking away from everything (not for the first time). “I’ll get my things out of your apartment tonight. After that, you won’t have to see me again.”
Sam stays still while you leave, clutching your arm in the process. That limb will heal, but the words that Sam has spoken won’t. There will remain a constant reminder of how you were betrayed by those you would give everything for.
So much for trust.

Something Just Like This II
Tumblr media
pairing - charles leclerc x reader
fandom - f1
summary - a look into your relationship
part - ii (part II) (part III )
a/n - more angst??
"everyone, I want you to meet charlotte”
never before had a single sentence made your head whirl the way it was. never before had you felt nauseous at the sight of your best friend, but that day, the wine you had drunk threatened to make an unpleasant comeback. never before had you felt your heart shatter at the sight of a person before, but you swore you heard your fragile heart shatter into a milllion unfixable pieces, as you stared at the gorgeous brunette with the sweet smile, currently greeting charles’ family.
it wasn’t just you that stood shell shocked. pascale stared openly at her son, confusion and sadness visible in her eyes, but nevertheless, the matriarch of the leclerc family greeted the young girl with a smile, kissing her on the cheek and welcoming her to the home that suddenly felt so cold to you. lorenzo stood up to, ever the kind hearted one, greeting her and offering a glass of wine to her.
arthur was the only one that sat shell shocked, mouth agape, and it wasn’t till lorenzo nudged hum gently that he stood up to greet the woman.
the smile on charles’ face made your already hurting heart ache a little more. he looked so happy, and you hated it. you felt the easy tears rising again, threatening to spill over, but you forced them back. no. you were not going to have a breakdown in front of charles and his family, and his new girlfriend. girlfriend. the word had never seemed so painful before.
but you put on your camera smile, flashing charlotte a warm smile, and giving her a small hug. “Hello, I’m y/n” you smiled softly at her, admitting to yourself that she really was a beauty. "hello, I’m charlotte, I’m a big fan!” she exclaimed, and you forced yourself to keep the smile on your face. “always a pleasure to meet the fans” you joked half heartedly, and she laughed. much to your relief, pascale, sensing your discomfort, pulled the girl into a conversation on the other side, leaving you, arthur, lorenzo and charles in her drawing room.
"so charlotte sine huh?” arthur asked, face blank of any emotion. he recognised the girl well, having grown up quite near the family. “yes, I met her the other day on my run and figured I might as well ask her out on a date” he smiled, grinning it himself at the memory. “she seems nice, n’est ce pas?” lorenzo asked, throwing you a sympathetic smile. “oui, elle est tres gentile” he affirmed, and you fought back the urge to cry once more. “mais, y/n, you didn’t tell me you would be here?” he said, pulling you in for a hug,
y/n. not cherie. that was your first thought. of course you wouldn’t be cherie anymore. no, you’d have to give up that title, you reasoned, inhaling a shaky breath.
"i wasn’t supposed to. but i met maman in the afternoon and she invited me over for dinner, and i missed you guys so i thought i might as well” you said, quite honestly. “lovely, that way I can introduce you to charlotte too, no?” he smiled, and you faked a smile once more, before politely excusing yourself.
taking deep shaky breaths, you slipped into the balcony, glass of wine still in hand, sipping on it slowly to keep you grounded, you recognised the sound of feet softly making their way to you, and before you knew it, arthur’s blue shirt came into your line of sight.
how are you holding up?” he asked, wrapping his warm around.
you let out a shaky breath, taking another sip of your wine, and throwing him a watery smile. “simply splendid, tur” you whispered, and arthur swore he felt his heart break for his older sister.
"il ne sait pas ce qu’il ressent cherie, donne lui de temps, je sais qu’il t’aime” he doesn’t know how he feels darling, give him some time, I know he loves you he said, and you let the first tear drop, feeling it roll slowly down your cheek and drip onto the railing.
“no don’t cry” arthur mumbled, feeling such sadness on your behalf. with a soft sigh, he pulled you in for a proper hug, letting you bury your face in his shirt, and balancing your wine glass on the balcony railing.
how had it come to this? this wasn’t how you expected your night to go. you had hoped at the end of it you and charles would have been the ones cuddled up on the couch, laughing and chatting with his mother.
but unfortunately, fate had different plans.
dinner was an oddly quiet affair. pascale’s delicious dinner received multiple compliments from the five of you, but there was an odd tenseness in the air. and you knew it was because of your presence, that the atmosphere was so tense.
"merci maman, pour le diner, mais, je pense qui je vais rentrer chez moi, maintenant, je suits tres fatigue” thank you mum for the dinner, but I think i will head home now, I’m very tired you said, giving the woman who had been a second mother to you all your life a tight hug. you saw your own sad smile reflected on her face, and she gave you a bowl of chocolate mousse to take home.
"leaving already?” lorenzo asked, pulling you in for a hug as well.
“oui, je suis tres fatigue, enzo” you whispered, and he dropped a kiss to the top of your head. “d'accord, bonne nuit ange” he said, and you smiled at him. arthur insisted on walking you all the way to your car, and you let him, grateful for his company.
“is he gonna be with her forever?” you asked, the childish question slipping past your lips, voicing the fears you had in your heart. you knew it was silly to ask. but you had to ask, you just had to.
"no, don't be silly ange. of course he won't. i know he's my brother and i do love him unconditionally but he is terrible at maintaining relationships. in fact he is utterly hopeless. you know why? because he isn't with the woman he truly loves" arthur stated, helping you into your car.
you just sighed, leaning up to kiss his cheek and then starting the engine. the roar of your ferrari brought a small smile to your face, and waving him goodbye, you drove out.
yes, you were distraught but no, you were not going going to let it wreck you. but even as you forced yourself to be strong, you could feel your heart cracking into a million pieces in your chest. you had felt heartbreak before but never had you felt so absolutely wrecked over someone. not just someone.
your best friend. your bestest friend in the whole wide world.
and you had never told him you loved him.
the thought brought bile rising to your throat, and you had to pull over to throw up.
finally, you stopped resisting the tears, and let yourself break down completely in the car, parked near the dock in monaco. you sobbed and sobbed and wailed, lashing out at the wheel of your ferrari, releasing all your pent up hurt.
you turned the radio up, trying to muffle out the sound of your tears. the last thing you expected was the knock on your window, that had you reaching for the pepper spray and slowly lowering the window.
"hey, you doing okay y/n? i saw your car and i heard what sounded like crying so i thought.." your eyes met lewis' sweet ones, currently displaying concern for you.
lewis hamilton leaned down, taking in your red eyes and nose.
he knew you quite well, he had seen you with charles and lorenzo and andrea very frequently around the paddock, and had even spent time with you in monaco when charles invited him for dinner.
he'd never admit it, but he had always thought you were beautiful. but a few stories from pierre suggested to him that you and charles were a thing so he never said anything to you.
but here you were, tears streaming down your face, blasting someone like you by adele on the radio and he knew something was wrong.
"oh! hey lewis. didn't think anyone would be here, i just wanted a minute" you smiled.
"i can leave if you want, just wanted to make sure everything was okay" he said, and you were touched by the sincerity in his eyes.
"im okay" you spoke softly, not trusting your voice to go above a whisper. "but i could do with some company" you admitted, chuckling.
"anytime" he smiled back at you. you opened to door to your car, letting him slide in the passenger seat.
"out on a jog were you?" you asked, driving down to your favourite icecream store (vegan of course)
"yep, i had a lot on my mind and i just wanted to run it all off y'know" he said, and you noticed the shift in his eyes and the sadness reflecting in them.
"this season's getting to you isn't it?" you whispered, and felt your heart go out to him when he nodded.
"lewis, one season doesn't define you...and you've been performing marvellously considering the car you have. im not exactly an f1 whiz but you're still the best. without a doubt" you said honestly.
lewis chuckled, and then turned to face you directly. "don't let charles hear you say that" he joked, and immediately he noticed the shift in your demeanour.
"uh yeah i won't" you mumbled, with a tight smile. "is everything okay with you two?" lewis asked, concerned.
you sighed, stopping at the store and looking determinedly out the window, trying your hardest not to cry.
"yeah it's all okay. im just a little overwhelmed right now is all" you sighed.
lewis nodded, not pushing you to tell him anything you didn't want to.
"c'mon, let's go and get some ice cream" he smiled at you, getting up to open your door.

sighing, you let your hand crash against the piano, wincing at the discordant notes.
this stupid melody had been playing around in your head for weeks and you couldn't put it into a proper song.
at the same time you had also decided the best thing you could do was put space between you and charles, and so, your communication had decreased significantly.
arthur still spoke to you regularly and visited you almost every week. he often brought carla along, who you adored, and who thought of you as an older sister.
he kept you updated on how everyone was doing, and you spoke to lorenzo and pascale over text when you could.
but of course it was hard to avoid your best friend when your social media feed was full of posts about him, now more often with his girlfriend, and you were having a hard time ignoring it.
letting your head drop back, you stretched, hearing your back crack like bubble wrap. the ding of the text notification from your phone made you sit up, smiling when you saw lewis' contact pop up on the screen
lewis h 💜: hey, just wanted to check in on you and make sure you're doing okay?
you : hello, I'm doing okay, thank you for asking 🫶🏼
lewis h 💜: what have you been upto?
you : just trying to figure out this melody, it's driving me insane
lewis h 💜: don't dress about it. i've heard your music and it's absolutely phenomenal. just relax, breathe, and let the music flow.
you : thank you. i can't thank you enough
lewis h 💜: anytime darling 💗 hope to see you soon?
you : ill be there at the monaco grand prix!
lewis h 💜: ive been meaning to ask, would you like to come as my guest to the mercedes hospitality?
you : id love to but..i don't want to cause a media storm..
lewis h 💜: fuck the media honestly. if i want to bring a friend to the paddock, ill bring a friend to the paddock.
you: lewis hamilton swears? 😯
lewis h 💜: hahaha. so ill see you there?
you : yes. ill be there 💗
lewis h 💜: looking forward to it y/n 💗
smiling, you put your phone down, almost giddy with excitement.
like magic, the melody seemed to fall into place and you called your friend jack.
"hey jack, I've got this idea, but ill need some help" you said.
jack antonoff laughed and said, "on it. another pop hit in the making?" he smirked and you laughed. "i sure hope so. ill see you soon then"
you smiled to yourself.
maybe life wasn't so bad after all.

@kymillman- @yourinstagram arriving at the monaco grand prix, but not in her usual manner with @.charlesleclerc, but rather with @lewishamilton, with a mercedes cap. she also made her way past the ferrari hospitality and went to the mercedes hospitality, but always a pleasure to photograph her.
@predestinato - oh dear what did charles do :( she's always supporting charles at all the races and she's been at every monaco grand prix since he got into f1. i miss her :(
@charles16monaco - she's with lewis now? i was hoping to see her at monaco with the leclercs.
@ynfan23 - mother is serving as always!! but i do wonder where charles is...
@ynlnisaqueen - serving looks and badassery.
@charlesbanana - charlie noo :( but yn looks gorgeous as always but i don't want to lose her to mercedes 😭
@lh44fanbase - sir lewis?? shooting his shot?? with our resident popstar queen?
pushing your sunglasses up your nose, you took in the sight of the monaco paddock, smiling as the sun warmed your skin.
the buzz and chatter and roar of engines felt like home, and you felt so excited to be back.
you spotted lewis, walking with roscoe to the media pen, and you watched as he turned towards you and shot you a bright smile.
you didn't expect him to turn and sprint towards you, and wrap you in a hug. you heard the click of cameras behind you but you didn't care. you were glad to have a friend in the paddock.
it felt a little strange to not walk into the red, bustling ferrari hospitality, and instead into the calm atmosphere of the mercedes one. it felt strange to walk past the sea of red, and you did feel a tinge of guilt.
lewis noticed. and he nudged you, bending to whisper, "it's okay, we're just here as friends. and it's just one race. let's just chill okay. ill treat you to more icecream too" he smiled and you giggled, walking into the hospitality.
across the paddock, charles frowned. he hadn't known you would be at the paddock. you were always at the monaco paddock with him, ever since his first grand prix.
he was used to seeing you wearing some element of red, a cap or a shirt or pants. but you were wearing a mercedes cap, and you hadn't even bothered to tell him you would be at the gp.
he pursed his lips, and decided to make his way to the car. he just needed to be focused on the quali and not on how you were with lewis-
no. he shook his head vigorously. he did not need that image in his head.
from the corner of his eye, he saw carlos approaching, and he sighed. he knew what he'd ask.
"cabron, where is y/n? why is she at mercedes? what did you do?" he asked.
"i did not do anything and i don't know why she's there" he said, sounding more put off than he meant to.
"are you sure? she always supports ferrari.." he trailed off, noticing how sad charles looked.
"what do you think happened?" carlos asked, leaning against the wall. the spaniard hadn't know you for very long, but in the time that he had, he had become one of your closest confidantes. he knew he would have trusted you with anything.
"i don't know, but she has been distant lately ever since..." he trailed off, unsure of the conclusion he had come to.
"ever since what?" carlos asked, growing impatient.
"ever since i introduced charlotte to her and my family.." he trailed off, eyes clouding over.
"ah. i see" carlos said. he didn't have to say anything else. he knew that charles knew, what exactly he wanted to say.
"mate, i know that you and charlotte broke up, and I know that it's because of a very strong reason. don't mess up mate. she's something special and you know it." carlos told his friend.
charles sighed, eyes dropping to the floor.
"best of luck for quali mate" carlos said, clapping him on the back and leaving to get ready for his own quali.
unfortunately for them, quali was shit for ferrari. engine issues meant that charles was p10 and carlos as p12, and much more irksome was the fact that lewis qualified p1, and the cameras had planned to your grinning and clapping.
he stormed off to the drivers room, slamming his helmet on the ground and sinking down onto the bed, roughly grabbing his own hair.
"tu es tellement stupide charles, tellement stupide et maintenant tu perds l'amour de ta vie"
sighing, he reached for his phone, and opened up instagram. he instantly wished he hadn't.
the first post he saw made his heart shatter into a thousand pieces.

charles took in the sight of the blue waters surrounding the boat.
his brothers, their girlfriends, his mother and their friends had all decided to spend the day on the boat. lorenzo and arthur were enjoying the football game on the tv, and carla and charlotte (lorenzo's girlfriend) were enjoying a sunbathing session on the deck.
charles sighed. he missed your presence on the boat. in fact, he missed your presence overall. usually, the both of you would be chatting away to glory, or playing games or just lounging about together.
he hadn't realized exactly how much your presence meant to him until you had slowly begun to pull away.
he felt tears rise up and he blinked them away furiously.
from the corner of his eye, he saw his mother approach him.
"salut maman" he smiled, kissing her cheeks.
"charles, pourquoi as-tu l'air si triste?" charles why do you look so sad?
"je ne sais pas maman, je... elle me manque tellement" i don't know mum, i... i miss her so much.
"mon fils, tu sais, je sais, nous savons tous que tu aimes y/n. pourquoi tu ne lui dis pas chérie ? elle t'aime tellement aussi et ça me fait mal au cœur que deux personnes destinées l'une à l'autre ne soient pas ensemble." my son, you know, i know,we all have known that you love y/n. why dont you tell her darling? she loves you so much too and it hurts my heart that two people destined for each other aren't together.
"mais... et si elle ne m'aime pas, maman ? je ne veux pas ruiner notre amitié et je ne veux pas la perdre. et c'est égoïste, mais je ne veux pas être blessé" but.. what if she doesnt love me back mum? i domt wamt to ruin our friendship and i dont want to lose her. and its selfish, but i dont want to be hurt..
"charles, l'amour est une douleur. dire à quelqu'un dont vous ne savez pas qu'il vous aime, que vous l'aimez est terrifiant, mais c'est ça l'amour. mais tu ne peux pas laisser cette peur t’arrêter. ne manquez pas votre chance de trouver le véritable amour. souviens-toi de mon fils, un amour comme celui-ci n'arrive qu'une fois dans la vie" charles, love is pain. telling someone you don't know loves you, that you love them is terrifying, but thats what love is. but you cant let that fear stop you. dont miss your chance at true love. remember my son, a love like this comes only once in a lifetime.
"je le ferai maman. merci" i will mum. thank you.
pascale pressed a kiss to her middle son's forehead, and left him to his thoughts. she knew he had a lot to think about.
charles knew he had a lot to think about too. he knew he had to tell you that he loved you, because damn it, you were his sun moon and stars and he would be damned if he let you go.
he smiled, a plan forming in his mind. he called carla and arthur, knowing you had a soft spot for the two of them.
"les gars, j'ai besoin de votre aide" he said.
"how can we help charles?" carla asked, smiling at him.
"i want to tell y/n that i love her"

Adam makes a friend in the cheerleading squad and introduces her to Bree and Chase but Chase kinda keeps his distance because hes so used to everyone having a crush on Adam or Bree and pushing him aside even though reader is very open about her crush on him and she gets so frustrated that she just kisses him
Tumblr media
I Like Nerds (Chase Davenport X Cheerleader!Reader)
Masterlist
Request Something!
Summary: Tired of history repeating itself, Chase doesn’t even bother trying to get to know you when Adam starts bringing you around. But when you ask him to help you out with an upcoming test, he realizes that you might not be so bad.
A/N: first fic post of the new year!!! also sorry it’s taken me so long to post something, writing’s been feeling so hard lately lol
***
You don’t know what you did wrong, to make Chase treat you this way. So cold and distant, when all you tried to be was nice. He’d been like this since the day you met, and the behavior never seemed to falter for a second.
It was really unfortunate. All you wanted from him was to like you. You were so excited when Adam invited you over to his house, because you’d finally get a proper introduction to the nerdy boy you’d been crushing on in the hallways.
“I hope they like me.” You murmured, more to yourself than to Adam, as you reached the front door of his place. When Adam invited you to hang out and meet his siblings after practice, you immediately said yes. You and Adam had gotten along the moment he joined the cheer squad, and his family seemed nice from your observations from afar. But seeing the giant house in front of you and thinking about what was on the other side of the door was starting to make you nervous.
“Don’t be silly; of course, they’ll like you!” Adam said with his usual cheerful demeanor. Without warning, he opened the door, dragging you into the house. “I like you!”
“Well, you like everyone, Adam.” You said with a laugh, the chuckle soon turning timid as you realized that Adam’s siblings were all sitting on the couch looking at the two of you. You absentmindedly smoothed out your cheer skirt, doing your best not to look at Adam’s nerdy brother too much. “Hi.”
“Guys, this is-”
“Y/n L/n.” Adam’s other brother Leo cut him off, standing up and walking over to you with a sly smile. “Best flyer on the cheer squad and Captain Stacy Brookfield’s right-hand girl.” You giggled at the description he gave you as he shook your hand. “I’m Leo Dooley. Now… about Stacy Brookfield-”
“Okay.” Adam pushed Leo’s shoulder. “That’s enough of that.” You did your best to stifle a snort as Adam ignored Leo’s whiny protests, pointing to his sister. “This is my sister, Bree.”
“We have got to hang out; I need girl time,” Bree said in a severe tone, making you grin. “I’m surrounded by these guys every day; I’m getting so sick of it.”
“Well, I know all the best spots for good girl time.” You responded, happy that Bree had seemed to take a liking to you already. “I’ll give you my number before I leave so we can set something up.”
Bree clapped gleefully before Adam stole your attention, pointing to who was sitting on the furthest seat on the couch.
“And that’s my brother, Chase.”
He looked up at the sound of his name, eyes landing on you. You wiggled your fingers to give him a small wave.
“Hey.” You smiled, glad you were finally getting a good introduction to this cute boy. He looked you up and down for a second, took a deep breath, and then looked back at the homework he was working on.
“Hi.”
So much for a good introduction.
That was about a month ago, and not much seemed to change. It’s not like Chase was mean, just… indifferent. He was polite enough to give a short wave back to you when you passed by, but he never did anything beyond that. He didn’t feel like trying to converse with you beyond pleasantries. When you came over to the Davenport household, usually for Adam or Bree, he seemed to busy himself with homework or something else so he wouldn’t have to interact with you.
You tried to tell yourself that he was like that with everyone, so the standoffishness didn’t hurt you as much.
But now you had a chance to maybe change Chase’s attitude. Or at least find out the reason behind it. You had an upcoming test in your math class, probably your worst subject. You knew that Chase was smart, most likely the most intelligent guy in school. So, when you were in the living room waiting for Bree to get ready to go to the mall with you and saw Chase walk into the kitchen, you decided to seize your opportunity.
“Hey, Chase.” You said, a pep in your step as you walked to the kitchen and sat on one of the bar stools. He looked up at you, seeming surprised, like he hadn’t noticed you were there.
“Hey, Y/n.” His voice was timid, a bit confused.
Before he could get the chance to run off, you leaned forward on the counter.
“Chase, could you do me a favor?” You rested your head in your hands, giving him a sweet smile.
“Maybe…” He grabbed a drink from the fridge and faced you, picking at the bottle cap. “What is it?”
“Well, I have a math test coming up, and I’m, like, the worst at remembering all the formulas and stuff. So I was wondering if you could maybe help me?” You bit your lip in anticipation, hoping he’d say yes.
Chase had a feeling you’d ask him something like this at some point. Whenever his siblings brought someone new around, more often than not, he was eventually asked to help the friend either get with his brother or sister or help them with some homework.
He sighed, scratching the back of his neck.
“Well, I really-”
“If you need me to pay you, I totally can!” You quickly added. “I don’t wanna, like, take advantage of your brain or anything.” You said with a nervous laugh.
“No,” Chase said without thinking. He mentally kicked himself; why would he say no to money? Although Mr. Davenport was rich, that didn’t mean Chase was. He cleared his throat. “No, you don’t have to pay me. I mean, any friend of Adam and Bree’s is a friend of mine, right?”
You grinned, happy that he was willing to help you. It stung a bit that he considered you a friend by association instead of just a friend, but you were sure that that would be fixed after a few study sessions.
“Great! Thank you so much, Chase!”
“Y/n, I’m ready.” Bree came bounding down the stairs, and although you were excited to go out with her, you were a bit disappointed that your time with Chase was being cut short.
“One second, Bee.” You said, giving her a smile before turning back to Chase. You dug around in your bag for a loose piece of paper and a pen. “Here’s my number.” You said, scribbling it down along with a smiley face before handing it to him. “Text me, and we’ll set up a date.”
Chase’s cheeks seemed to redden as he took the piece of paper from you, giving it a quick glance before smiling at you.
“Got it.”
“Y/n, come on!” Bree took hold of your arm and started to drag you out of the house. You gave Chase a quick wave and grinned when he waved back to you with slightly more enthusiasm than before.
***
A week later, the day before your test, you were about to have your third study session with Chase. You were happy to see that Chase had been warming up to you a bit. Maybe you just needed some alone time with him to get him to open up. He was starting to make small talk with you when you saw each other, greeting you first when you’d come through the door. You were honestly a bit baffled when you came over one night to watch a movie with him and his siblings, and he moved his homework out of the way instead of focusing on it so you could sit next to him.
You came to the Davenports with Adam, coming straight from cheer practice. When you got close to the house, you suddenly realized you didn’t have any comfortable clothes to change into. Sure, you had the clothes you wore to school, but you didn’t feel like going back into your jeans and top that wasn’t the best for lounging around.
“What’s wrong?” Adam asked, spotting the pout on your face.
“I just realized I forgot to pack something comfy in my bag.” You groaned. “Now I either gotta stay in uniform until I get home or put my jeans back on.”
“You can borrow something from me, if you want,” Adam said.
“Really?” You asked.
“Yeah, sure!”
You and Adam went inside and saw Chase sitting on the couch, a math textbook and some paper on the coffee table. He perked up at the sight of you.
“Hey, Chase!” You greeted, setting your backpack next to him. “I’m gonna get out of this real quick, and then we can get started.” Chase nodded, flipping the textbook open to the page you ended on from your last study session.
“Come on, Y/n. My room’s this way.” Adam’s giant hand clasped around yours, leading you down the hall, and you missed Chase snapping his head to look at the two of you walking away.
When you came back to the living room about ten minutes later, you missed the way Chase clenched his jaw at the sight of you. You were wearing Adam’s clothes, almost drowning in his oversized shirt and sweatpants, with your cheer uniform neatly folded and tucked under your arm.
“Hey.” You smiled at Chase, taking your math notebook out of your backpack and stuffing in your uniform. You settled next to Chase and grabbed a pen. “So, what are we working on?”
Chase stared at you for a second, and you started to feel a bit skittish under his gaze. He took a deep breath before looking away from you, giving a half-hearted gesture towards the open textbook.
“Just review.”
You frowned at the lackluster response from him. You wondered what had happened between ten minutes ago and now to dim Chase’s mood. But you didn’t want to poke and prod, so you simply nodded and started looking at the textbook.
A few minutes passed, and Chase was filled with thoughts that needed to be let out.
“So, what’s up with you and Adam?” He asked, trying to appear nonchalant. You looked at him confused, before looking back at your notebook, trying to work out a problem.
“What about me and Adam?”
“Are you guys like… together, or what?” You dropped your pen at the question, not expecting it at all. You snorted, and Chase frowned. It was bad enough that you were wearing his brother’s clothes, but laughing at him dampened his mood a bit more. Until you responded.
“God, no!” You laughed. “I mean, I like Adam, he’s really nice. But not like that.”
“Really?” Chase asked, watching you pick your pen back up.
“Not at all! I like nerds.” You didn’t mean to let that slip, but you tried not to let it show.
“Really?” Chase asked again, only this time sounding more interested.
“Yeah!” You smiled at him. “Muscles are cool and all, but I dunno. In this world, I think smarts should be considered superior.” You scribbled a few more things down before showing Chase your notebook. “Is this right?” You asked hopefully.
He only needed to take a quick glance to see whether you were correct or not, and you were. He nodded and smiled at the tiny squeal you gave out in celebration before moving on to the next review question.
***
“I’m sure you did great, Y/n,” Chase reassured you as you paced back and forth in the hall. Your eyes were glued to your phone, waiting for a notification. “You worked really hard this past week; there’s no doubt you got a good grade.”
You had taken your math test today and were now impatiently waiting for the results. Your teacher said she’d have the tests graded and put into the gradebook by the end of the school day. But it’s been fifteen minutes since the last bell of the day rang, and there’s still been no change in your grade or notification of your test results.
“No, Chase. I, like, totally blanked on half the questions. There’s no way I passed.”
“Y/n, if you keep walking around like that, you’re gonna burn a hole through the floor.” Chase grabbed your shoulders and turned you to face him. You would’ve been flustered by the close proximity if you weren’t so worried about your academic standing. If you did about as bad as you think you did on this test, there’s no way you’d be able to cheer at the next few football games. “I’m sure you did really good.”
“But-”
“I know you did.” Chase looked like he was about to say something more when your phone buzzed. You looked down fast enough to see that it was a notification about your grade, and although you had been so impatient for it, now you didn’t want to look.
“You look at it.” You shoved the phone into Chase’s hand, clasping your own together as you waited for the blow. “Well? What did I get?”
Chase looked at your phone to see the grade and grinned up at you.
“You got an A.”
“What?”
“You got an A!”
“Oh my God!”
Any people passing by probably thought the two of you were going crazy, but you didn’t care at all. You were beyond thrilled, and Chase was so proud of you. You clapped and jumped on the balls of your feet before roping Chase into a hug, which he eagerly returned.
“Thank you so much! I don’t know what I would’ve done without you, Chase.” You pulled back and, overwhelmed by the moment of ecstasy, pecked Chase on the lips. It was quick, but when you realized what you had done, you gasped and covered your mouth. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry. I don’t know why I did that. I-”
Chase didn’t let you continue. Instead, he pulled your hand away from your mouth and kissed you, this time longer and more focused. The hand that wasn’t still wrapped around your waist buried itself into your hair. You tried not to smile too much as you kissed him back.
Smarts were definitely superior.

“I swear to God Joel, if you make fun of me…”
“I’m not gonna make fun of you, Beautiful.”
“Oh you say that now.”
“I’m really not,” he laughed a little.
“I did like… research and shit,” you said from the other side of your bathroom door. “I Googled, OK?”
“I’m sure you look incredible,” you could hear the smile in his voice. “Just come out here.”
You sighed.
“Fine.”
You knew you shouldn’t be nervous with Joel and, usually, you weren’t. But this felt a little different. You opened the bathroom door and came into your bedroom, doing a little spin as you did to show him both sides of the outfit. His face shifted from a smile to something almost hungry as he looked you up and down from his spot on the edge of your bed. He checked his watch.
“What?” You frowned.
“Just seein’ how much time we have until Tommy and Maria get here,” he said, looking back at you. “Think if we’re quick and leave that little skirt on…”
You laughed and all but jumped on his lap, kissing him.
You were going on your first double date with Joel, with his brother and sister-in-law of all people. You’d met Tommy and Maria at Sarah’s cookout a few weeks earlier but hadn’t seen them since. You had, however, heard plenty about them since then. Especially after Joel told you that his brother knew about the two of you.
Your eyes had gone wide when he’d told you that.
“Are you sure it was a good idea to tell him quite yet?” You asked. “We haven’t told Sarah and they’re pretty close…”
“Yeah, I didn’t… uh…” Joel awkwardly cupped the back of his neck. “Didn’t exactly… tell him.”
You frowned.
“What do you…”
“Maria… might have heard us in the bathroom at the cookout.”
“What!” You yelped, eyes wide. “Oh my GOD, Joel!”
“It’s fine…”
You groaned and collapsed all the way down onto his couch, burying your face in the arm of it.
“They must think I’m some kind of ridiculous slut!” Your voice was muffled by the cushion. “This is mortifying…”
“It’s really not that bad,” he rubbed your thigh soothingly. “Really. They like you! A lot! And they kept sayin’ they’d never seen me this happy. Honestly, Tommy was just happy to see me with someone I wanted to fuck in a bathroom.”
“Jesus Christ,” you groaned. “Well, it’s been great, Joel, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to change my name and move to Antarctica…”
He laughed and tugged you over until your head was on his shoulder instead of the couch.
“Sounds cold,” he said, kissing the crown of your head. “I’ll have to find a coat.”
If you’d been falling for Joel before, you’d fully fallen for him over the past two weeks, ever since he’d found out everything about your childhood and your dad.
You’d almost expected him to look for an out once it all settled in. That, when all the baggage had been sitting there for long enough for him to take inventory of it all, he’d run.
But he hadn’t. He’d done the opposite. He spent that weekend holed up with you. Making you dinner, holding you close while watching Sharknado, changing the locks on your front door and installing a doorbell camera so you could see if he stopped by. He dropped you off at work Monday morning and picked you up that afternoon, heading straight to a car dealership after handing you a small pile of print outs. You frowned, looking at them.
“What…”
“So I took what I was asking you about cars over the weekend and found some good options for you,” he said. “Four of ‘em are at one dealership so I figured we could start there unless these are really not what you’re lookin’ for…”
You flipped through the pages, all cars that were makes and models you were already thinking about wanting to look at, just tracked down at places around you instead of an abstract thought in your head.
You teared up, a hand covering your mouth.
Joel frowned.
“We don’t have to do this today,” he said. “I don’t mind drivin’ you for a bit, happy to do it if you need a little more time or just aren’t up for it or…”
“No one’s ever done something like this for me,” you dabbed at the corners of your eyes, trying to keep the tears from actually falling and ruining your mascara.
“Told you I’ve got you, Beautiful,” Joel said. “Meant it.”
You ended up buying a car Tuesday, Joel not a fan of how the salesman you talked to at the first dealership seemed incapable of talking directly to you and instead looked at Joel when answering all your questions.
“That’s just how it is,” you shrugged as you headed back to his truck.
“Don’t matter,” Joel said, opening your door for you. “It’s bullshit. We can always come back if we come up empty but you shouldn’t give your money to that jackass.”
The second dealership had a saleswoman who would actually talk to you and not your boyfriend - boyfriend? - and ended up getting you a car with even nicer features than the one your dad had totaled for about the same price. You dropped Joel’s truck at your place and you drove the two of you to a restaurant you’d found on a local food blog, running your hand over the dashboard when at red lights.
“Happy with the car?” Joel asked, smiling almost proudly. It was one of the cars he’d found and printed the information on.
“It’s perfect,” you beamed at him. “Thank you so much for just… everything the past few days. This is the best I’ve ever felt after a visit from my dad.”
You were feeling pretty good on Wednesday when you got a Nest alert on your phone. Your dad was standing at your front door, trying the key he still had. You took a screenshot and texted Joel.
“Guess who,” you wrote. “Glad you changed the locks.”
He replied almost immediately.
“I’m staying over,” he said. “Got his parole officer’s number?”
When your dad came by that night and actually rang the bell, you stayed just out of sight, watching the reflection of what happened in a mirror on your entry way wall as Joel answered the door.
“Oh,” he said when he saw Joel. “I’m sorry, I must have misremembered the apartment…”
“You didn’t,” Joel said, his voice cold. “Know exactly who you are. You’re not welcome here. Come by again and I’m calling the cops and you’d better hope they get their hands on you before I do. She’s blocked your number.” He handed your dad a business card. “If it’s an emergency, you can call me but you’re stayin’ the fuck away from her. You had your chance, you blew it. Now go, before I make you go.”
“I don’t know who the hell you think you are or what my daughter’s told you…”
“I’m her boyfriend,” he snapped. “And she’s told me plenty. Was probably nicer than you deserved about it, too, knowing her. Last chance to leave on your own.”
Your dad was silent for a moment.
“Take care of her?” He said quietly.
“I will,” Joel said, tone softer. “Do a better job of it than you did.”
“Good,” he said. “Tell her bye for me.”
Joel closed the door and the second you could reach him you threw your arms around his neck, pressing your whole body against him. You kissed him, hard and frantic, tugging him back toward your bedroom as you did. You all but ripped his clothes off of him as you stripped down yourself, racing to get him inside you, not really able to calm down until he was.
“Fuck, Beautiful,” he groaned, his hands on your thighs as you straddled his hips, his cock deep inside. “What’s this for?”
“Needed you,” you said, dropping your forehead to his as you panted for breath.
You were sure you loved him then. You weren’t sure how to say it yet but you were sure you felt it.
Which is part of why you were really trying for this double date. You were in love with Joel, you wanted to impress his brother and sister-in-law. The two of you hadn’t really talked about it but, ever since he called himself your boyfriend to your father, that’s what he was. And you liked it that way. You wanted him to want to bring you places.
Including University of Texas football games.
Even though you knew fuck all about college football. You’d basically spent your entire college career studying or working, going to sporting events hadn’t been too high on your to do list.
So you’d done some research, looked up what people wore to things like college football games. You decided to go all out and settled on a denim mini-skirt, a v-neck University of Texas shirt, cowboy boots and little orange longhorn temporary tattoos on your cheeks.
“Wonderin’ if we should just cancel on them,” Joel kissed down your neck to your cleavage. “Look too good, don’t want to share you.”
“Yeah, we’re not canceling on your brother so you can get me naked,” you laughed a little. “But you can get me naked later.”
“Good luck stoppin’ me,” he nipped at your chin.
Your doorbell rang and Joel groaned, dropping his head to your chest.
“Tommy has always had terrible timing,” he sighed.
You laughed and got off his lap.
“C’mon you horn dog,” you teased. “Let’s go watch the sportsball.”
“One thing first,” he reached under your bed and pulled out a straw cowboy hat. “Thought you might need one of these to complete the look.”
You squealed and grabbed the hat, popping it on your head.
“How long has this been under my bed?” You gaped at him.
He smiled a little.
“Snuck it in the other day,” he said. “You’re a Texan now so you gotta have at least one.”
“I love it!” You looked in the mirror and adjusted it a little. “Thank you!”
You tipped it at him.
“How’s it look?”
He smiled.
“Beautiful. Just… Beautiful.”
Tommy’s truck was loaded down with coolers and a grill, your eyes going a little wide at it all.
“How many people are going to be there?” You asked Joel as you got in the back seat of the truck.
“It’s a tailgate,” he shrugged. “Can never tell.”
“Give Tommy an excuse to drink while grilling for a crowd and he’ll take it,” Maria smiled, twisting around in the front seat to actually face you. “Good to see you again!”
“You too!” You smiled, trying to resist the urge to jump out of the car when you thought about the fact that she heard you going down on Joel.
“I’m excited to have another woman around for this whole thing,” she smiled as Tommy started the truck. “They do this once a year and I swear it’s like they pack a whole season’s worth of football stuff into one day.”
“I keep tellin’ ya, get me season tickets and we’ll spread it out,” Tommy teased.
“You think I want to do this every weekend?” Maria asked, incredulous.
Tommy scoffed.
“Who wouldn’t?”
Maria gave you a look as if to say “See what I deal with?” And you smiled as Joel took your hand, lacing his fingers with yours.
You helped get the tailgate set up before settling into a folding camp chair with a beer next to Maria, the two of you watching as Joel and Tommy put meat on the grill, serious looks on their faces as they worked.
“So,” Maria smiled, taking a sip of beer. “You and Joel, huh?”
“Me and Joel,” you nodded, smiling a little back. “Not too insane, is it?”
“I mean, the circumstances might be a little odd but otherwise,” she shrugged. “He likes you.”
“I sure hope so,” you laughed, taking a drink of beer yourself and looking out at the crowd that was gathering to tailgate. The truck across from you was setting up a game of cornhole. Someone a few trucks down had started playing country music at top volume. “I’m a little fucked if he doesn’t at this point.”
She laughed, too.
“Look, I’ll be honest,” she said. “I know Joel better than most sisters-in-law probably care to know their brother-in-law. Him and Tommy… You marry one and you get the other, too. Package deal and all that.”
You nodded slowly, watching the two of them work while talking conspiratorially themselves.
“I’ve never, not once, seen him show this kind of interest in anyone,” she continued. “Honestly, Tommy and I figured he’d be single forever. Maybe a date here and there but… It never really seemed like a priority for him. He’s never even mentioned a woman before let alone brought her around.
“You seem to make him happy. Really happy. And I want to support him. But… I need to know that you’re in this for the long haul. That man doesn’t get attached lightly but he’s attached to you. Hell, he had me trying to interpret your texts a few weeks back, trying to make sure he didn’t fuck up…”
You winced.
“I was dealing with some family stuff,” you said. “I should have just talked to him about it from the get go and…”
“Hey, I get it,” she cut you off. “Not like you’d been seeing each other long, I wouldn’t have told some guy I’d just met anything all that personal, either. I just want to make sure you care, that you know he’s not just screwing around with you. Not that he’s said that but I know the guy. Tommy knows the guy. This is a first and I’d rather not watch his heart get stomped on.”
You looked at Joel. He was laughing at something Tommy said, his smile wide and beautiful. You couldn’t help but smile, too. Just looking at the guy made you happy.
“I’m in it,” you said, still watching him. “Trust me, I’m very in it.”
“Good,” Maria said. You thought you could hear the smile on her voice. “Because I really do need another girl around these two, they’re insufferable.”
Once the grill was going, Joel put his arms around your shoulders and led you around the tailgate. Tommy’s set up, you soon realized, was relatively modest. A few people had come with campers and had big TVs set up outside, chairs on rugs out front watching other games from around the country. The two of you stopped and played ladder ball with someone who worked with Joel, him smiling proudly as he introduced you as “his girlfriend,” making your heart soar. You even ran into one of your copywriters as he chugged a beer shirtless with an orange X painted on his chest.
“Oh shit, hey Boss!” He laughed. “Good to see you! Who’s your friend?”
“This is my boyfriend, Joel,” you smiled. It was the first time you’d gotten to say that. Joel beamed and the two shook hands. “Joel, this is Steve, one of the copywriters at work.”
“Want a beer?” Steve asked. “I’ll give you two if you promise to forget you saw me like this.”
You laughed back.
“Don’t worry, Steve,” you said. “I’ll be doing my best to forget that, anyway.”
“So not all these people are going to the game?” You asked as you walked slowly back toward Tommy’s truck. Joel’s arm was draped over your shoulders again.
“Nope,” Joel said. “People just come out to party. There’ll be a lot of people around the TVs later.”
“Football is weird,” you scrunched your nose and Joel laughed. “But I’ll still watch it with you.”
“Oh really?” He teased.
“Yup,” you smiled up at him. “But only because you’re hot.”
He laughed.
“Better get in the game time while I can, then.”
When you made it back to the truck, food was ready (“Still got a lot to learn about grilling a great burger, Tommy,” Joel teased his brother, who just rolled his eyes) and you and Joel lost at cornhole to Tommy and Maria.
“Do people really play stuff like that all the time?” You gaped at Tommy after he sent another bag directly into the hole on the opposite board. Yours were scattered on the ground around it.
“We’ve got a set in our backyard,” Tommy said after he punched the air in victory. “You and Joel will just have to practice, don’t know if he can handle me kicking his ass.”
By the time the game started, you’d almost forgotten that you’d come there to watch a football game, having so much fun in the parking lot outside that it seemed like the main attraction.
You tried to mimic how other people reacted to the events on the field, not really understanding any of it but having fun watching Joel have fun. It was about half way through the first quarter when Joel leaned down to whisper in your ear.
“You don’t understand any of this, do you?” He asked.
You winced. You’d tried to watch some informational videos on YouTube and read some basic explainers of the game over the past week but it was like it was in a different language, you hadn’t been able to absorb any of it.
“Never had anyone to explain it to me as a kid and never hung out with anyone who was into it as an adult,” you replied. “So no, not a damn thing. But it’s still fun!”
“Here,” he put his hand on your waist and pointed toward the lineup of men on the field. “We’re on offense right now, that means we’re trying to score and we’ve got the ball. It’s second and eight…”
Joel kindly, patiently, walked you through the basics, going back over things when he could tell you were confused or had forgotten something when it happened on the field.
“It’s really OK,” you said after a few minutes. “I don’t want you to spend all the time you’re supposed to be having fun talking to me…”
“Talking to you is fun,” he replied. “I’d rather talk to you all the time than watch any game. And I want you to have fun, too. Which I know you won’t if you don’t understand what’s going on because you feel better when you know things.”
You looked up at him, at his warm smile and soft eyes and the one curl that had broken away from the rest to start curving over his forehead, and you couldn’t help it. For a moment, the feeling overwhelmed you and it just spilled out of you before you could stop it.
“I love you,” you said before you realized you said it.
Then your eyes went wide and your face fell and you scrambled to take it back. It was too soon to be saying this to him, you’d only known the man a few weeks and things were still insanely complicated, you’d barely figured out that you were in a full blown relationship let alone ready to bring something like love into the mix. It didn’t matter that you felt it and that you wanted to say it, it wasn’t the right time yet.
“Shit. Ignore that, please ignore that, pretend I didn’t say anything, I don’t want…”
“I love you, too,” he cut you off, smiling so big his whole face lit up with it.
You just blinked at him for a moment.
“Really?”
“Yeah,” he laughed. “Yeah, I do. I really, really do.”
He tipped your hat up and kissed you, his arm sliding around you to pull you flush against his front. You wrapped your arms around his neck, holding tight to him, never wanting to stop feeling just like this.
“Look!” Maria patted your shoulder urgently. “You’re on the kiss cam!”
You pulled away from Joel just in time to see yourselves on the giant screen and you laughed, going back to kiss him again.
***
“I’m glad you two seem to have figured your shit out,” Tommy had told him while they set up the grill. “She really does seem great.”
“She is,” Joel said, watching you talk with Maria, looking so damn pretty in your little skirt and boots. “Fuck, she’s incredible.”
“Anyone who can actually get you to feel something is a winner in my book,” Tommy replied, hooking up the propane tank. “Not sure what’s thicker, your skull or the space around your heart.”
Joel laughed but he knew his brother had a point. He hadn’t been in a relationship - a real one - in a very long time. It had been even longer since he’d felt anything close to this for anyone. He’d gone from falling in love with you to just being in love with you and it had happened so quickly it was hard for him to even see it at first.
He’d just known it when your father had shown up at your door that day. Joel knew what he was after - some other way to manipulate you, he was sure - and it made his blood boil. He had to consciously stop himself from hitting the man. The only reason he didn’t was because he knew it would hurt you if he did. But he knew he had to protect you, had to be the one standing in between you and the man who’d done nothing but neglect and harm you your entire life.
His whole body burned with it. He wished he could have gone back in time somehow and protected you then, too. Made it so you didn’t have to go through any of it and stand between you and anyone who had ever so much as looked at you wrong. None of them deserved you. Neither did he, for that matter, but he could at least protect you from the worst of them.
He knew he loved you then. He couldn’t conceive of how anyone could look at you and do anything that would willfully hurt you, how anyone could look at you and see anything but one of the greatest things the world had ever let happen.
But he didn’t want to scare you off, so he kept it to himself, instead just doing everything he could to take care of you, get you to spend some time with him.
It turned out, he didn’t need to try that hard. It seemed like you were just as eager to see him as he was to see you.
You texted him over lunch on a day you were working from home, a picture of all the makings for mac and cheese and a BluRay of Jupiter Ascending, a movie Joel had heard was laughably bad and he’d been meaning to watch at some point.
“Your place or mine?” You asked.
Joel smiled.
“Wherever you are, Beautiful, I’ll be there.”
You asked to come to his place so you could actually get out of your house for a bit and you showed up not long after Joel had gotten out of the shower, a pan of macaroni and cheese ready to go in the oven and a grocery bag over your arm with all the fixings for Bloody Marys.
“I. Found. Bacon. Vodka,” your eyes were wide and excited. “It’s going to be amazing!”
You were right, it was amazing. Everything with you was amazing.
Because he loved you.
“You told her yet?” Tommy asked as they say next to each other on the gate of his truck during lunch.
“Told who what?” Joel asked, looking down at his phone for the umpteenth time since his lunch break started. You’d texted him a picture of a rather pathetic looking sandwich.
“This food truck’s a bust,” you said. “Feeling very let down. I require real food. Dinner?”
Joel was about to type out a response when you sent a selfie from what had to be a bathroom stall at your office, your shirt unbuttoned an extra button from what it had been when you’d gone your separate ways that morning.
“In case you needed motivation,” you wrote.
“Tell your girlfriend that you’re in love with her,” Tommy said.
Joel frowned and actually looked up from his phone.
“I didn’t…”
“Don’t need to say it,” Tommy clapped him on the shoulder. “I’m not blind and I might not be a genius but I ain’t that dumb. You’ve got it bad.”
Joel glared at him for a second.
“S’too early,” he muttered. “Don’t wanna scare her off.”
“You’re practically living with this woman,” he said. “She brought steak to your house the other night. Besides the blip, what’s the longest you’ve gone without seeing her since you started dating?”
Joel was happy that, after the mall incident, Tommy was understanding without Joel needing to be too specific about what happened with your father. He’d just told Tommy “It was a tough family thing, makes our shit look like child’s play.” Tommy just said “Damn, poor girl, shit’s rough” and had only ever called it “the blip” from then on.
“Just a work day, really,” Joel said.
“Don’t think it’s too early for shit, man,” Tommy said. “Just don’t fuck it up. And figure out how to tell your kid because I’m shit at keeping secrets.”
Joel sighed and nodded to his brother before texting you back.
“Never need much motivation with you,” he said. “Can’t let you starve on me. Come over, I’ll grill you a burger.”
When you fell asleep naked in his bed that night, he just watched you breathe, wondering how to tell you how he felt and how to tell his daughter that he was head over heels for her best friend.
So when you’d all but blurted it out at him at the game, it was a relief. He’d been terrified it would slip out of him for almost two weeks now. That he’d hand you something, you’d say “thank you” and, instead of “you’re welcome” he’d say “I love you.” That he’d kiss you on the way out the door in the morning and instead of “goodbye” it would be “I love you.” That he’d be looking at your perfect face as you rode him and he’d gasp “I love you” as he came deep inside.
It was a relief to know you felt it, too. It was a relief to say it out loud. It was a relief to feel the sense of security that settled into him at those words, the sense that this wasn’t something that would be easily undone. That this was something he could be safe in feeling, that he could rely on the connection he had with you that had gone from tenuous to vital so fast it made his head spin.
The rest of the game, he couldn’t keep his hands off of you. You were either perched on his leg or standing right in front of him for the rest of the game, his hands on your waist, pressing his lips into your neck and cheek, each kiss just another “I love you” in his mind. He couldn’t even tell you the score by the end of the game, only knowing that UT won because everyone else around them seemed almost as happy as he was.
Joel was eager to say his goodbyes to Tommy and Maria when they dropped the two of you off at your apartment. It’s not like he didn’t always want you - he always wanted you - but it was urgent now, a driving need more than a want.
You, it seemed, were on the same wavelength. The front door was barely closed when you took fistfuls of his shirt and pulled him against you, kissing him deeply as you walked backwards deeper into your home.
He pulled your hat off first, tossing it on your loveseat on the way back to your bedroom. You went from using his shirt to hold him close to tugging it up and over his head as he did the same with yours.
In the bedroom, you turned so he was against the bed as you deftly opened his pants and pushed them and his boxer briefs down and off. You nudged him down onto the bed and looked him in the eyes as you slipped your panties down your legs, leaving on the little miniskirt that Joel had so wanted to fuck you in before the game.
You straddled him, your arms resting on his shoulders, his hands on your back, fingers spread wide to touch as much of you as he could. He slowly, almost reverently, removed your bra, cupping your breasts for a moment before holding onto you again. You aligned your entrance with his cock, the head of him just inside of you.
He held your gaze, his nose brushing yours, breathing the same air you were. He looked deep in your eyes as you started sinking onto him, your breath hitching as you did.
“I love you,” he breathed, mouth so close to yours his lips brushed your own when he spoke.
“Joel,” you managed, your body soft and warm against him as you took him into yourself. “I love you, I…”
You gasped as he bottomed out within you and he clutched onto you, needing to be as close to you as he could possibly be.
The two of you just looked at each other for a moment, your skin on his, his cock buried deep within you.
He realized then that he’d never been inside someone he was in love with before you. He’d tried with Sarah’s mother but her resentment kept any real affection from becoming too deep. Everything before her has been for fun, he hadn’t been looking for anything permanent. No relationship had lasted long enough to actually fall for anyone since.
It was an intense thing, knowing you loved him back while being a part of you. You always felt incredible, better than anything or anyone else he’d ever felt, but it was different now and he never wanted to be anywhere but with you.
You took a deep, shaky breath before rising slowly over him. He could feel every inch of you, the tight grip of every ridge, the wet heat of you holding him perfectly inside. He kissed you as you started to ride him, moaning into your mouth, sinking his fingers into your soft skin.
Your skirt bunched around your hips and you ground your clit against him and he relished it, loving the feeling of you finding your pleasure with his body.
He met you stroke for stroke until you came over him with a whimper, kissing him deeper, pussy gushing over his cock.
Joel moved you below him, settling between your thighs, his body still tight to yours for a moment before he separated from you.
“Joel,” you whimpered, breasts heaving. He slid a hand up your stomach, drinking you in, eyes lingering on the place disappeared into you, your sex swollen and slick.
“Want to see you,” he panted, moving his hands to the inside of your knees, slipping them over your thighs until one thumb found your clit and the other slipped around your hip to your lower back, your sexy little skirt pushed up around your waist now. “Want to see you come for me.”
He started driving into you, pulling back almost reluctantly to thrust back as deep as he could reach, watching it move through your body, the ripple of your skin, the bounce of your breasts, the desperate look on your face as he worked your clit, your channel tightening around him.
“That’s it,” he panted as you ground your hips back against him when he thrust deep. “Are you close, Beautiful? That perfect little pussy about to come for me?”
You nodded and moaned, one of your hands flying to the bed and tangling in the blanket.
“Good,” he said, all but breathless. “Need you to come all over me, need to feel you come, need to watch you come. Just let go baby, just come for me.”
He watched your orgasm take hold half a second before he felt it, your face lost in pleasure, your clit throbbing as he felt you come apart around his cock.
Joel fought to hold his own orgasm off for at least moment, wanting to enjoy your pleasure for as long as he could. But he didn’t last long, thrusting deep and all but collapsing on top of you as the peak of your climax triggered his own.
Once he’d come down from his high enough to be able to think, he rolled onto his side and took you with him, still buried deep in you, kissing you gently as he held your face in his hand.
“I love you, Joel,” you said softly. “I’ve never really said that to anybody but I love you.”
“I love you,” he said, letting the feeling wash over him as he was so impossibly close to you. “I love you so much.”
As he fell asleep in your bed with you in his arms, he wasn’t sure he’d ever meant anything more.

Everything hurt....
You were covered in bruises and burns. Though it felt like half of your brain was no longer working as you felt yourself becoming more and more numb, you reckoned you were gonna survive, at least with a dozen or so scars. You winced feeling every bone in your body ache and burn.
Your throat burned and felt like sandpaper. Unknowingly your blood stained hands rubbed your throat. The dry and scratchy feeling isn't what hurt though. You sighed feeling the emptiness of your neck. The death eaters had taken the ring you wore on a Chang on your neck. That should be the least of your problems right? But it was the ring Draco gave you. It was a reminder of what or who you were protecting.
His broken voice filed through your fried brain... At least you think it's his. Your heart clinched at the sound of his voice but your brain seemed to not process it.
“this is my mess... I can't let you do this”
“the spell is already done, Draco. I’m your secret keeper. Besides, I don’t need you to let me do anything.”
“You could die! You realize that? You could get tortured! You know what happened to the Longbottoms!”
He felt small and useless that day. He knew he couldn't stop you... What killed him was he knew he couldn't protect you. For a moment Draco  thought that there was no one in the world who would dare challenge you on this or that no Death Eater would ever go near you with the intent to torture. He knew no one would be able to convince you other wise.
Not even your brothers...
“please don't do this...” he said feeling weak.
Your feet crunched on the wet grass, and the cold only served to soothe your suffering for a few more moments as you walked to the door of the burrow you called home. In the distance you could hear Ron and Draco arguing. That was nothing new, the two had never and probably never will get along.
It took a while but your Family did welcome Draco into the family with open arms. He felt safer in the burrow than he did in his own home. The twins and excepted it first and tried their best to be friends to Draco and soon the three became closer than you expected. And of course your mother Molly treated him like one of her own which overwhelmed Draco at first but he grew to appreciate and love it.
Vaguely, you heard George defuse the squabbling boys, asking if anyone heard that. Through your dark clouded mind you knew that if didn't speak something bad would happen. If you did speak the same outcome might happen. I tried to call out to the voices but nothing came out. If you didn’t say you were there and that it was all still safe they might finish what the Death Eaters started.
The idea of that seemed to be too much, and before you knew it you felt your leg give out underneath you as you stepped forward, and the ground rushed up to meet you as your vision went black.
The arguing stopped, you knew that much. You could hear a familiar voice call out your name on the distance. A door open and slammed shut. The force made you jolt in fear but your body didn't move. Your fried brain had been wired to tell your body it's time for more pain.
You wanted to flinch and protect your body but you felt too weak to move.
“Y/n!”
the harshness of an unforgiving curse wasn't shot through your vains. Nor was the harshness of a fist. What was felt was gentle hands cradling you to his chest. It felt like Ron... You think. Your brain didn't seem to have it on file but something was telling you it was your over protective twin brother.
He looked down and spoke softly. “hey, what happened? Who did this?” Ron looked up and saw the the rest of the residents of the burrow file out. Fred stopped in shock seeing his little sister all beaten up. George left his twin and raced over to the youngest pair of twins.
Ron looked up to the group with tears flooding is eyes. “who did This! What's wrong with her!” he shouted. The other stood there speechless.
After cooling off and his brain was thinking rationally he walked outside to see what the commotion was about. Draco's chest tightened at the sight that was before him. His Love all bloddy and hurt in her brother's sobbing arms.
“no!” he shouted and ran to her. He fell to his knees in front of Ron who was still holding her. Draco wasn't one to cry in front of people who wasn't you but he didn't care at this point. He sob and tried to take you but Ron wasn't having it. Not thinking straight enough to agrue with your brother he stared at the wet grass and punched it with anger. The fist being used only made him angrier. It was the fist that was attached to the arm that once held his death eater mark. It was gone after a painful process that you were against. The scar that remained only reminded him you were in this situation because you were protecting him.
Your father tired to take you inside but Ron flintched away. It was the first time ever anyone saw Ron shout at your father. “don't touch her”
Draco didn't even try. He knew Ron blamed him and he wouldn't be surprised if the the whole family did. Your mother tried to reason with Ron but he just protectevly picked you up and kept everyone away as he took you inside. Everyone quickly followed...
Except the numb Slytherin who was on his knees Sobbing. Your mother who so desperately wanted to a follow and care for her daughter stayed behind. She knew Ron would probably hex the next person who came near you. She also knew her son well enough to know he was waiting for it to be Draco.
“I'm so sorry” Draco sobbed out to the red-head mother. “I never wanted her to do this for me... I'm sorry” Mrs. Weasley knelt down next to him and hugged him trying to calm him down.
“its not your fault” she spoke softly.
It's not your fault
But in his mind he knew it was...
You could not think. You could not feel. It was not until a few moments later when you felt your body gently senk into a familiar couch. The old creaky couch never felt so good. someone with vaguely familiar feeling hands was kneeling next to you, pulling you up to sit and pressing a glass of water to your lips that you finally began to feel everything rushing back.
It hurt...
Everything hurt so much...
Draco watched silently next to the door frame in the kitchen. He kept his distance as he watched your brothers take care of you. He felt relieved Ginny was out With Harry not wanting the young girl to see her sister in pain. Feeling he over stepped his leave and the tension was an unwelcoming feeling that told him he should leave but the sight of you made him plant his root right where he was.
If no one would let him near you he'd watch you like a hawk from a far making sure no one hurt you.
It was all too much. you could see the familiar red-head boys in front of you, your poor brother George with just one ear. Ron sat next to you with tears in his eyes saying things that you could hardly make yourself hear. You saw everyone except one... You didn't move but your E/c eyes scanned around the room for the Blond Slytherin you swor to protect.
Your mother followed your eyes and she just knew what you wanted. Your crying brothers isn't what you need. She walked over to Draco who had his head down and was hiding behind the blond hairs that fell over his eyes. She placed her hand over his shoulder to get his attention. He looked at her with red puffy eyes.
“she needs you right now”
Draco gulped and knelt down front of the couch you were laying on. Ron gave him a death glare and opened his mouth to say something but your father put his hand on Ron's shoulder stopping him.
Draco gently took your hand and kissed it softly as he whispered. You knew he was asking what happened, hoping you would say it was nothing while Ron seemed much less optimistic. He was fuled with rage.
You wanted to say something but you couldn't.
It was all too much... And you were scared.
Your shaking hand could hardly hold on to Draco's pale one. His other one moved to hold that weight of your cut up and bruised hand.
You took in one long breath, and released it. There was a part of you saying to keep fighting. That you’d come this far. That talking couldn’t be that hard! You’d gotten tortured for information and fought off a pair of Death Eaters for Christ's sake! Talking to your boyfriend and your brothers would be easy.
Saying all of that was right.... Right?
It would be kinder to your brothers...
It would be better for Draco..
But it hurts.. So, so much.
The pain wouldn't leave. Feeling every ache, every burn, and cut made you feel vulnerable and useless... You didn't want to talk or even think.. Everything felt muffled and faded.
You layed there wondering if you should force yourself to snap out of it before you decided that it simply was going to hurt too much right now to do that. To talk. To relive it all. You looked up at Draco and the sounds you were hearing didn’t seem to match up with how his lips were moving. He seemed frantic. He looked so scared that it was just one more jab to your stomach.
You closed your bruised eyes not wanting to see Draco so distraught. No, you didn't want to feel anything anymore.
Draco nor your brothers knew what to do. Ron found you passed out in the yard after a heated argument between Ron and Draco. There was large gashes in your shirt that showed a wounds on your chest and sides that while obviously not lethal, seemed to be pouring out a lot of blood.
There was bruises and burns all round your neck and arms.
There was a long cut on down your left eye that made Bill's stomach turn.
“Y/n? I need you to talk to me. What happened? Are you alright?” Draco tried his best to seem calm, and to speak in a soothing manner but even he could hear the fear in his own voice. “please,Darling.”
He was vaguely aware of Fred and George on the other side of you, making quick work of your wounds. One of the benefits of being a children of Molly Weasley meant that they both had quite a bit of experience with healing spells. Not as much as their mum’s, but more than enough to pull you through.
“y/n..” a small voice suddenly appeared. They all looked up aside from you and saw Ginny covered her mouth and tears fell fast. Harry stood there speechless as he tried to comfort Ginny. Your mother quickly moved away and tried to move Ginny and Harry upstairs. Ginny tried to fight to see you but she gave up breaking in Harry's arms.
“Love?” Draco's throat felt tight, as he watched your eyes glaze over-you were still looking in his direction, seemingly at his face, but Draco got the sense that you were no longer really seeing.
Ron moved to her line of sight with a defeated look “Tell me what happened.” you didn't answer and your eyes trailed back to Draco.
he smoothed out your hair, pressing a kiss to the matted, bloody mess. Eyes squeezed tight he waited with baited breath for you to speak until he felt your father squeeze his shoulder.
“What happened?” Draco knew of course. It was quite obvious what had happened to you, but that didn’t keep him from wanting to deny what was obvious. He looked up at your father with tears.
George looked at your boyfriend sadly. “She was tortured, and now we’re going to patch her up.” he could already hear Draco about to wonder aloud if you’d turn out like the Longbottom’s, and quickly nipped that in the bud. “Let’s get her cleaned up and into bed. She’ll feel better then, and maybe she’ll start talking.”
That seemed to give both Draco and Ron a spark of hope. Wrapping one arm around your shoulders, and slipping another under your knees, Draco lifted you up and carried you towards the bathroom. Ron tried to follow but your father stopped him and your mother went.
--------( ....... )--------
You hadn’t talked since you've been home. It had been ten and a half days, and you showed no more sign of speaking than you did on that first night.
Your wounds had been mended or were healing, all going well. Draco dutifully changed your bandages twice a day, and helped clean you off at night. He made sure you ate thrice a day, drank plenty of water, and stayed close to you the entire time.
Draco constantly spoke to you.
It's the most you've ever heard him talk in the burrow. He was always afraid he'd over step and he was always afraid he'd say the wrong thing. if you were in a different situation you'd be proud of him.
Draco would talk About anything that came to his mind. The boy was quickly becoming used to saying whatever his first thought was that came to him. Fred and George noted rather sadly that their sister's boyfriend's thoughts seemed to be running in sad circles as the days added up.
Draco didn't give up on you though.
It reminded George a lot of when you were a child and you would talk to the stuffed Dragon Charlie got you. In his mind he could almost hear what the response would have been.
“how are you feeling, Love?”
Silence
You were gazing at something on the far shelf in your room- Draco followed your line of sight and it landed on a medium sized Green dragon plushy. He pointed at it but you didn't saying, just kept staring at it thinking about.
Draco got up from his spot next to you and retrieved the stuffed dragon. “is this what you want?” you didn't respond but squeezed it tightly as soon as he placed it in your hands. You held it to your chest and hid your face in like a small child would when they were scard.
It felt comforting to hold it again. You haven't slept with since 3rd year but it was always special to you because Charlie gave it to you.
Charlie... He probably doesn't even know what's happening at home.
Draco looked down at the dragon and slightly smiled as he fiddled with the soft wign. “remember the voice I made up for him in 2nd year? I'd always annoy you with it but deep down I knew you thought it was funny”
You didn't respond only held the dragon tighter. Draco sighed and pulled you into his lap, and could almost feel you wrapping your arms around him and hiding your face in the neck like always... But you felt like a raggdoll. You kept your arms around the stuffed dragon but you mechanically rested the side of your head to his chest.
“please talk to me” Draco whispered. He even thought about making the dumb stuffed dragon talk like he did when you were younger. But he didn't want to treat you like a child.
“please...” His voice cracked, as he began to shake. It was starting to get hard to remember how your voice sounded, something that shook him to his core.
“Say something... I-I’ll give you anything you want just say something.” he said more desperately.
More since filled the room. Dead quiet.
“just talk... Please...let me hear your voice”
He sounded horribly pathetic, he knew that, and he didn’t care. If it meant you’d start talking again he’d fall on his knees in front of anyone. If it meant you came back he would do whatever was requested of him.
Fred and George came up from the basement and stared sadly at their little sister and her boyfriend. “Draco, when was the last time you got any sleep?” George asked.
Draco didn't awnser and kept his eyes on you and only you. “Malfoy, why don't you get some sleep” Fred added.
The twins' suggestion was met with a immediate shake of Draco’s head. “I’m not leaving her.”
“You’re not leaving. You’ll be going to bed. I can get Y/N’s dinner ready and Mum will help her get changed. You need to sleep, Mate.” George noted, that your eyes slowly seemed to be coming into focus instead of gazing far away you finally looked as if you were noticing things in the room.
He wondered, for a moment, and he didn't make any indication he was gonna move. Fred let out a long breath.
“Go to bed.” George said as him and fred walked over to Draco and very gently, removed you from his lap. “we'll take care of her.”
George held your hand as You teetered between the realms of seeing and unseeing. Understanding and not knowing. Everything seemed to be muffled. You weren’t entirely sure who you were anymore.
“y/n, Darling?” Draco said softly. You looked at the ground not saying anything. Like I said you weren't entirely sure who you were anymore but you knew one thing...
Your name...
Draco was about to leave but you mindlessly followed. He stopped and you looked up at him. one of the first responses you’d been able to give in a long time. He felt a bit of hope in his chest. All you knew was it was his bed time.
You didn't speak but handed him the stuffed Dragon and shuffled back to the twins. He looked down at it button eyes as his chest tightened. George took your hand and tried to led you into the kitchen but you didn't move to far. Fred stayed behind with draco.
Fred patted his friend's shoulder. “See? She heard you. Go to bed. She’s getting better day by day.” Draco silently nodded and walked upstairs with the dragon still in his hands.
You followed Draco with your eyes, brow crinkling as things began to fit more together. There was a gentle tug on your hand and you looked to see George smiling at you a bit knowingly. “Let’s get you some tea, alright? I’ll fix dinner.”
“come on sis” Fred added following his siblings into the kitchen.
--------( ....... )--------
Draco silently walked up the stairs in to the room he always slept in when he stayed over.
“how she doing?” Ron's voice said making him look up. The Slytherin shrugged fiddling with the Dragon. Ron looked down at it as well felling his chest tighten. With Ron and you being twins that dragon was just as much part of his childhood as it was yours.
“haven't seen him in a while” Ron said referring the the toy. Draco shrugged. “she was staring at it this morning... I thought she'd want it... Then she gave to me when George told me to go to bed”
Ron sighed and stuffed his hands in his pockets while leaning on the wall. “I'm sorry for being so awful to you”
Draco looked up at the red-head. He let out a depressing chuckel. “I would be nice to me either... And I deserve it” Draco tried to finish his trip to his(your) bed but Ron stopped him again.
“you've changed” That made Draco stop and turn back to Ron. “she saw the good in you... And I just held a grudge... I was so bloody pissed when you started dating her and I couldn't let myself see you weren't that bad”
Draco nodded and gave him a genuine smile. “no harm done Mate” he held out his hand to Ron. Your twin slightly smiled and shook your boyfriends hand. Ron awkwardly nodded. “I'll just let you get back to it” Ron walked passed Draco and down the stairs.
Ron walked into the kitchen to see his twin and the older set of twins. For the first time ever Ron felt sick to his stomach and had no appetite. He just silently sat down next to you as George set a cup of tea in front of the both of you.
The tea burned your tongue when you sipped on it and almost as quickly as you pulled a face George set a glass of ice water in front of you for you to sip on. Ron set the hot mug away from you a bit and whispered.
“let it cool down a bit”
You stared at the steam floating above the hot mug as your tongue burned. It felt like there was going to be a blister there.
Even though it was more pain.... At least You were starting to feel, again.
You looked at Ron with doe eyes but he wouldn't look back. He sadly looked at his mug and kept quiet. He was your Twin, why wasn't he looking at you...
After quite some time of not knowing or understanding much you were able to start fitting things together.
You were Y/n Weasley...
You'd been torched and Draco and your brothers were talking care of you.
You looked up and stared at George and Fred's backs as they stood at the counter. You thought about how Draco had, For a number of days, been asking you to talk to him and was becoming increasingly more hopeless and weary.
“is Draco gonna be okay?”
Y
our voice was shot. Your vocal chords were still terrible from so much screaming but you’d spoken, and The boys had heard you clear as day.
Ron had spit out his tea in surprise and the George dropped a plate on the floor.
George turned to you. the boy you knew as quite goofy and rather cocky, with tears in his eyes. There was a rather grateful smile on his face. Fred closed his eyes and let out a sigh of relief. Ron on the other hand hugged you tightly and let out a sob of relief.
“He’ll be just fine.” George smiled.
It was only after feeding you, and extracting a few more words from you that Ron took you upstairs. Asking you to talk only seemed to make you more quiet, and the boys were quick to note that. Ron led you to your room, and gave you a grin, “Why don’t you get ready for bed, and I’ll send in Draco to help you with your bandages. Is that okay?”
He took a nod gladly. it was a large improvement from this morning, and closed your door so that you might have some privacy.
“Draco” Ron swung the door open and Draco looked at Ron with a bit of confusion. He set up from the bed and tossed the stuffed dragon he'd been staring at instead of sleeping to the side.
“what wrong? Everything okay?”
“she talking” Ron said softly.
He was up like a lightning bolt. “What?”
“She’s talking. Not a lot.. but a bit. Asked me if you were alright. Asked the twins how the joke shop was doing. Said thank you for dinner.”
“why didn't you say anything?” Draco said brushing past the red-head and towards your room. He stared at the closed door for a few long moments before finally knocking.
“come in” he heard softly. He let out a sigh of relief. Thanking Goddrick he could hear your angelic voice again.
He quickly grabbed the door knob to support his weight for just a bit as his knees tried to buckle underneath him from relief.
Tears were all ready falling...
Draco was a fearsome sight indeed, when he entered your room. His eyes had heavy purple bags underneath him. He looked thinner than you remembered. His blond hair was longer and not fixed to perfection like always.
His hands were shaking along with his shoulders and all together he looked so fragile right then... lot like a porcelain doll. Something that could be easily smashed to bits.
You were sitting on your bed, fingertips running over the textured of the sleeve of the sweater your mother made you.  “Are you alright Dray?”
Slowly, he approached you... like he was scared you would dissapear. When he finally got to the edge of the bed where your legs dangled off, he got on his knees and wrapped his arms around your waist. His ear was pressed against your ribcage and one of your hands rested on his arm while the other played with his platinum Blond hair.
“Darling...” he cried.
He held you tighter as you hid your face in his hair. “are you okay Dray?”
Draco nodded and held you closer and allowed himself to break into sobs as relief flooded him. “I'm okay Love... We're okay”
Yes... They would be okay

It was strange waking up after you died.
You weren’t struggling to breathe, gulping down huge breaths of air.  Technically you didn’t need to breathe anymore although Secondo said you might still do it out of habit.  The first thing you became aware of was the feel of the cool sheets against your skin.  You used to make fun of Secondo’s demands when it came to thread count, but now you were nothing but thankful for his pickiness as you laid there naked.
With a soft groan you stretched out, spreading your limbs wide on the large bed as you started to look around the room.  Secondo had promised you that you wouldn’t wake up alone but there wasn't a sign of him anywhere.  The thick curtains were drawn over the windows and the only light came from a few dim lamps scattered around the room.  You planted your elbows beneath you to push yourself up but a horrific cramping in your stomach had you gasping and dropping back onto the bed.
The pain was more intense than anything you’d experienced before.  Even more than how much it hurt when Secondo had bit into your neck.  You moved a hand up to where his teeth hand sunk in, expecting to feel broken skin but there was nothing.  Your skin was smooth and cold to the touch.  No sign of what he had done to you, of what you had asked him to do to you.
You had asked him to make you a vampire.
The Emeritus family being vampires was a horribly kept secret in the church.  Most of that was due to Terzo, a man that couldn’t be discreet about anything.  But with their status as vampires being well known amongst the congregation it provided them with ample opportunities to feed.  Most Siblings of Sin were more than willing to expose their neck or wrist to one of the brothers.  You counted yourself among them although Secondo’s favored place to bite you was at the inside of your thigh.  Your flesh there was often marred with bruises and bite wounds from your Papa.
But that was before last night.  Before he bit into his own wrist and had you drink from him.  You could still taste him on your tongue and you unashamedly rubbed your thighs together when you thought of how erotic it had been.
“Look at you.”  You froze at the sound of his voice, looking around the room for him without luck.  When he spoke again you turned your head toward the foot of the bed and had to stifle a moan as you watched him walk out of the shadows towards you.  “How do you feel, belezza?”
“It hurts.”
He tsked at you, shaking his head as he climbed onto the bed fully nude just like you were. In a stark contrast from yours his skin was warm as he placed his hands on your ankles.  They moved up and down your shins in a soothing motion all while he held your gaze.
“Where does it hurt?”  You moved a hand to rest over your belly, biting your lip when his eyes wandered down to watch as you rubbed it over your soft flesh.  “I know why it hurts there, belezza, and I know how to fix it.”
“How?”
Secondo smiled, his fangs glinting in the light as he answered you.
“You need to feed, my darling.”
He turned and held a hand out behind him, reaching out into the shadows.  With bated breath you listened to the soft footfalls of a visitor as they moved closer to the bed.  A sister you hadn't seen before emerged into the light and you could taste her fear in the air.  Secondo wrapped an arm around their waste and tugged them hard enough they fell across his lap and over your legs.
“Is she...is she for me?”
“Si, she’s yours.  Ripe and ready to help you complete your transformation.”   He reached for the poor girl’s neck and swept her hair aside.  “Sister Dana agreed to help you, right sister?”
When she didn’t answer, Secondo grabbed a fistful of her hair and yanked her neck back.  She cried out, a wounded noise escaping out of her throat at the treatment.  Before tonight you would have stepped in to reprimand Secondo.  You would have told him to stop playing with his food.
But now you were too hungry to care.
You managed to sit up, finding it easy to ignore the pain when every cell in your body was screaming for the blood pumping through the sister’s veins.  Your hands flexed nervously in the bedding though, not sure what your first move should be.
“Would you like me to show you, belezza?”
All you could manage was a frantic nod, but Secondo didn’t seem to mind.  He leaned into the sister’s face and gave her a kiss on each cheek.  You could see her cheeks blushing from the attention, her mouth falling open when he dropped kisses down to her jaw.  He kept going until he was at her throat, right over her jugular.  Secondo murmured a few things in Italian before opening his mouth and sinking his teeth into the poor girl’s neck.
“Papa!”
Her voice was loud and panicked, echoing around you.  She tried to say something else but the only other noise she could make was a garbled sob as her own blood filled her mouth.  Your stomach clenched painfully as you watched it drip down her lips and slide down her neck.  With a deep, animalistic growl Secondo pulled off and ran his tongue up to her jawline to collect the spilled blood.  The sister clawed at Secondo's chest, tears gathering in her eyes when all your Papa did was give her a cruel smile in return.
“Hush little lamb, you promised to be good.”
You could tell his words weren’t registering.  A pained grimace had taken over her face as she struggled to breathe through the blood.  Secondo chuckled darkly before he leaned in and captured her mouth in a deep kiss.  After a few moments he held out his hand for you and you took it without a second thought, pulling yourself up and across the bed to press against his side.  Your eyes fell to her neck, to the blood pumping from the wound and you eagerly fell forward to lap at it.
It was amazing.  The taste of her blood slid across your tongue like wine.  It was warm and rich, coating the inside of your mouth before dripping down the back of your throat.  With a frantic moan you clutched her, pulling her away from Secondo to hold her more tightly against you.  He moved so he was at your back and you could feel his hands on your shoulders, feel as they slipped around your front to cup your breasts.  He pinched at your nipples, harder than usual but the pain was good, it was so good. You needed more of it.
You sank your teeth into her flesh, feeling it tear as you bit at her harshly.  The wound easily opened wider and you started noisily sucking her blood down.  One of Secondo’s hands started moving down your stomach, his hands bare and smooth on your skin.  When he reached your cunt his chest vibrated against your back with a laugh.
“Wet for me already?”
Without warning he pushed two fingers into your dripping entrance, groaning as your body eagerly accepted them.  You could hear the wet sounds of him pumping them in and out even as you continued to suck as much blood out of the sister as you could.  Secondo’s fingers started working faster, brushing against that spot inside of you he never failed to find.  In and out, over and over again.  Your orgasm was getting closer and closer and right as you teetered on the edge he pressed his mouth to your neck and bit down.
The feeling of his teeth on you again made everything inside and around you shatter.  You pulled off the sister’s neck and fell back, letting Secondo catch you.  The sister fell backwards at the foot of the bed, her eyes blank and unseeing as they stared up at the ceiling.  There was blood still oozing from her mouth and neck, the sight making you growl and want more.  Secondo cooed into your ear, gently turning your head towards his and then capturing your mouth in a kiss.  He growled at the taste of blood there and the kiss turned sloppy as you each chased the blood smeared over each other.  With a deep groan he eventually pulled away, smiling softly at you before tilting his head towards the pillows.
“You should get some more rest, my darling.”
You pouted as you scooted back towards the head of the bed, you’d rather stay in his arms a little longer.  Both of you were now warm from the blood you had drank but it felt good to be in his arms regardless.  His face paint was now smeared and mixed with blood although it did nothing to hide his handsome features.  If anything it made you desire him even more now that he had finally turned you.  You felt yourself getting wet again as you took him in and you relaxed further back into the pillows, opening your legs a bit to try to entice him closer.  Secondo took a deep breath, a feral grin forming on his face.  He remained still though and you stuck your bottom lip out further, wondering what was stopping him.
“Secondo, come here.”
“One moment, belezza.”  He reached out for the sister, her chest barely moving with her shallow breaths.  You were surprised she was still alive, but as you watched Secondo lift her wrist to his mouth you figured that wouldn’t be the case for very long.  “We shouldn’t waste our breakfast.”
The softest of whimpers escaped the girl’s mouth when he bit into her again.  He was oddly gentle about it but that might have been because he was staring at you while he fed from her for the final time.  You held his eyes as you slid a hand down your chest, stroking over your breast before going further to your cunt.  His eyes followed your fingers as you started to tease at your clit, rubbing over it in tight circles as he watched.  When you moved down and slipped them inside of you he abruptly dropped the girl’s wrist, her blood dripping from his lips and dropping onto your ankles as he loomed over you.
“Such a naughty thing, teasing your Papa.”
He leaned down and began to kiss your skin, his lips pressing into random spots all the way up to your thighs.  In the light you could see the bloody lip marks he was leaving, almost like lipstick, some with a hint of black from his face paint.  Secondo brought his hands up to the inside of your thighs and pressed them further apart so he could settle close to your cunt.  You were still moving your fingers inside of you and his eyes followed them, his hot breath grazing your skin as he moved his head closer.
“Secondo, please.”
You were ready for him to tease you some more, but in one swift movement he grabbed your wrist and pulled it away so his mouth could replace your fingers.  His deep groan as he tasted you vibrated through your whole body.  The grip he had on your thighs got tighter as he circled your entrance with his tongue a few times before dipping it in as far as he could.  When you were able to look down at him you could see where your juices had mixed with the blood and paint he was already wearing.
Secondo looked absolutely feral as he hungrily licked and sucked your cunt.  You reached out with one hand and grabbed his head, your fingers sliding along his scalp for purchase.  He seemed to take the hint and buried his face even deeper against you, his nose pressing perfectly at your clit.  You were so close, so close to the edge again.  Gasps and whimpers were escaping you non stop as Secondo fucked you with his tongue.  You were about to start begging for something, for anything, to push you over when he finally moved his lips up to your clit, sucking on it right as he shoved two fingers inside of you.  He rubbed them along your walls perfectly right as he nipped your clit and you were gone, your whole body shaking as your orgasm ripped through you.
You weren’t sure how long you laid there recovering, the only thing that made you finally stir was Secondo’s lips moving up your stomach.  When you mustered the energy to look down he was kissing you between your breasts.  The area around his mouth shone with your release and you let your head fall back with a groan.  He laughed against your skin, his breath exhaling on your neck as he continued to move up.  When he was finally hovering over you, his eyes bright with laughter and love, you couldn’t help but laugh as well.  You reached up and traced down the bridge of his nose before resting both your hands on his broad shoulders.
“Will it be like this forever?”
He grinned before leaning down and capturing your mouth in a kiss.  You mewled as you tasted yourself on his lips, especially when you caught just the slightest hint of blood lingering in his mouth.  When he pulled away and sat up to kneel between your legs you pouted at the loss of his mouth.  Secondo just grinned again and moved his hands under you to grip your ass and lift you off the bed.  You wrapped your legs around his waist on instinct and he moved one of his hands to grip his cock.
“Are you ready for forever, belezza?”
Before you could respond he started pushing into you, relentless and without stopping.  His thick cock stretched you like his fingers never could and you reached out to dig your nails into his arms as the pleasure and pain rolled over you.  He didn’t stop until he was buried all the way, his hips flush with yours.  It was so good you couldn’t help but let out a joyous laugh.  The thought of forever with Secondo, like this, was amazing.
“If forever means I get to wake up like this every day, then yes.”
Secondo laughed as he gripped your waist tighter, easily lifting you up so he could start fucking you at the perfect angle.
“Anything you want, belezza.”  His pace increased, punishing and pleasurable, his mismatched eyes staring into yours as he fucked you.  “Anything.”

The smell of sulfur and sweat filled my senses. During the day it was always burning hot and at night the temperature dropped significantly. The hour that it took for my body to adjust to the change in climate everyday was always grueling. When my brother and I first arrived he was able to keep me hidden, offering me his coat or an arm to slink under,  but the second Amarantha set eyes on him he was ripped away from me. I hadn’t been allowed to speak to him since.
For the most part I had kept my head down, desperately trying to blend into the crowd of fae. It was  all I could do to survive, yet the whispers still followed me.
“The Jewel”
“Rhysand’s sister”
I knew they were all plotting against me, weighing whether or not my brother would have leave to reprimand anyone who dared hurt me. It was only a matter of time until someone decided to test the waters.
I stood among the crowd of fae looking up at the dias before us. The King Of Hybern had come to see how his little experiment had been going and Amarantha had made a point of making a show out of it. She had the most noble subjects lined up first, Kallias, Helion and myself included among the ranks. The rest fell into place behind us.
I looked up to the dias where the High Queen sat, my brother standing dutifully by her side. To my knowledge he had not yet given in to her wishes, but by the bags under his eyes and the paleness of his skin I wondered how much more of her torture he could take.
“As you can see my king, they have bent the knee without much fuss,” Amarantha gestured to those of us kneeling before her. The rocks under my knees cutting my skin. “We have all the High Lord’s but one present with us.”
“Very good,” the king smiled, making his way down the line to survey every High Lord that Amarantha had lured into her domain.
I kept my head down, staring only at the ground before me. The sound of his heavy boots crunching against the gravel was my only  indication that he was getting closer to where I was kneeling. The toe of his leather boots came into view before me and then stopped. My heart started to race and my palms became clammy behind my back. A cold hand lifted my chin and my eyes were met with a pair of black soulless ones.
“What about this one?” the king asked, never once taking his eyes off me. By the look on his face I could tell that he ate up every ounce of fear I projected, practically thrived off it.
“That is y/n, sister of Rhysand, High Lord of Night.” Amarantha purred, clearly proud of herself for getting me here.
“I’d like to have her,” he said, pulling me up roughly by my arm. “It’s time I take a wife so that I might have an heir to this mighty kingdom I’ve built.”
Fear courses through my veins as I feel tears start to prick my eyes. The king spoke so casually, like he was picking out a new tapestry. If I had eaten any food the last two days I would’ve hurled onto the stone floor below me. This would be my fate, and there was no one coming to save me.
“She is yours then,” Amarantha said, sipping her wine. “She’s of no use to me. Make an example of her for all I care. Some of her companions have been especially restless these past few evenings.” she uttered, referring to how Helion punched a lesser fae for trying to touch me last night.
“With pleasure,”the king growled, tossing me onto the ground.
The stone and rock sliced open my palms, the pain quick and biting. I had barely any time to think before I felt the king kneeling behind me, his hands beginning to lift my dress.
“NO NO NO!” my screams echoed off the walls falling upon deaf ears.
I tried to crawl away but I was hauled back by a pair of hands, one wrapping around my neck forcing me up.
“WAIT!”
My brother's voice boomed through the room, ricocheting off the walls like glorious night earning gasps from the lesser fae behind us. Thankfully the disruption was enough to stop Hybern in his tracks.
“If you don’t give my sister to him and you promise me her safety I will go to bed with you willingly,” Rhys pleaded and my heart dropped.
My eyes flitted up to find my brother, the High Lord of the Night Court, and the most honorable man I ever knew, kneeling. His hands grasped one of Amarantha’s as she looked down at him with a light in her eyes.
‘No, no, no, no’ was all I could think.
“Without any fuss?”she asked him.
“Yes,” he agreed.
“Rhys no!” I called but Hybern’s grip on my throat tightened.
“For as long as I wish?” she clarified.
“Yes.”
“Consider it done,” she purred.
My eyes flew open, my breath racing so fast I couldn’t keep up with it. A sheen of sweat coated my skin and it took me a moment to recognize where I was.
Home.
Cassian’s breaths rose and fell behind me, his arms around me an impenetrable wall to anyone who might try to take me from him. But it was all too much, and I needed to feel the fresh air. The fresh air I didn’t get to feel for 50 years.
So I wiggled out of his grasp with great difficulty and padded down the hallway to the balcony where he and I normally would take off.
The second the freezing night air hit my bare skin I felt like I could finally breathe again. My  nightgown did nothing to keep me warm but I was more than happy to feel the breeze. I looked down upon the sparking lights of Velaris and took it all in. There was a time I thought I would never see my home again, yet here I was. But at what cost?
Images of Rhysand’s health deteriorating under the mountain flashed through my mind. What he had done with Amarantha, so completely unspeakable. The only time I ever saw him perk up was when the Cursebreaker showed up. The one who had saved us all, the one I would later find to be my brother’s mate. I had never met the woman, but I longed to thank her for what she did.
These past few weeks I had been able to escape the nightmares of my time under the mountain. I supposed Cassian chased those monsters away. But as I stood here now I realized that it didn’t matter how far I ran, I could never be free of that stench of sulfur, and I could never outrun my guilt.
“You’re going to catch a cold,” Cassian murmured from the doorway. I didn’t turn back to meet his stare, unwilling to show him the tears in my eyes.
“It’s not that bad,” I laugh subtly wiping away a tear.
His arms wrap around me and I can’t help but lean into his warm chest, as his wings cocoon around me to block out the wind. He’s so warm, how is he always so warm?
“Are you okay?” he asks softly, words rumbling through his chest.
“I just had a nightmare that’s all,” I sigh, resting my hands to where his arms are clasped over my chest. “I thought that I was done having dreams about what happened under the mountain but I guess not. The things I saw? What Rhys did for me?” I pause, taking a deep breath. “Sometimes I think I’ll never really escape that place.”
Cassian turns me slowly in his arms and though I know he wants me to look at him, I can’t stop myself from wrapping my arms around him and burying my face in his bare chest. He holds me even tighter as his wings wrap around me, keeping in the warmth.
“Never again y/n,” he coos, running a hand over my hair. “For as long as I live you will never have  to go back there again.”
I can’t help as a tear trickles down my eye at his words. My face burying further into his warm chest, the one place I truly never want to leave. Not when I longed for it for so long. I breathed Cassian in deeply, trying to remind myself I was here, I was home. Rhys was at the townhouse, we were both safe.
“What can I do? How can I help?” Cassian asked me, pressing a kiss to my forehead.
“Just hold me,” I say with a shaky breath letting my hands wander up and down the bare skin of his back.
I felt his chest rumble through my cheek as he let out a small laugh, “I remember when I would’ve done anything to hear you say those words.” he says wings coming in tighter around me.
“You can hold me whenever you want general,” I smile, continuing to rub circles on his lower back.
“Almost whenever I want,” he corrects me quietly.
Reality came back to me in an instant. I knew what he meant. The complexities of marriages, and armies and alliances keeping us from being transparent.
But we would get there soon… Together we would get there.
Tumblr media
The next few days my dream follows me.
Every night I dream of my brother on his knees before Amarantha, every night I wake in a cold sweat, every night Cassian soothes me until I fall asleep again.
As I stare at myself in the mirror the bags under my eyes are a reminder that last night the nightmare had found me again. The ladies maids behind me pull my corset tighter, taking away my ability to breathe.
The only saving grace about today is that Eris isn’t here. Apparently he was out on a hunt with his brothers on a hunt and had been gone for three days. I knew it was really a bachelor party, no doubt spent in a seedy brothel, but I didn’t care to correct the autumn court women. How could I when they had the garment so tight I could hardly speak.
Today had been all about fitting me for my wedding dress, one I had yet to see. It was a long process of measuring my arms, legs, and bust. Picking out shades of white that would look best with my  complexion, (the debate between ivory and white lasted an hour and was utterly ridiculous). With Eris gone Cassain had spent the day lounging on a sofa, letting his guard down, that is until the corsets came out.
“Prince Eris says he wants her a size smaller for the wedding, keep pulling!” Ordered the older of the two, her gray hair falling from its updo. Gods they had already taken me in a full size.
My hands braced on either side of the mirror as the women yanked with all their strength one last time. It took everything in me not to scream out in pain once more as the fabric constricted around me again. I swore on my life I heard a rib crack.
“That should do it, measure her,” the older one snapped again. I wasn’t sure who this woman was but I didn’t dare argue with her.
A tape measure was slipped around my waist for the millionth time as they checked to see if the dress would fit. I watched in the mirror as the young one held up the measurement, my eyes flitting to Cassian’s worried gaze in the back of the room.
“Perfect, the dress will fit nicely after the alterations on the arms are done,” the older woman reported, putting her tools away. “You are free to go.”
“Can you help me get this off?” I ask trying to reach around trying to find the ribbons but the damned thing is tied so tight I can’t even reach.
“Absolutely not!” the woman cried like I had asked her to murder her first child. “You will need to leave that on till at least the end of the day to train your waist.”
I don’t argue, too scared to hear the woman squawk at me again like she just did. Thankfully the younger one, who I assume is her apprentice, helps me put on my old dress. The rusty colored fabric is looser in the middle now but all I can think about is going home. The sooner I’m home the sooner I can take this damned thing off.
“Ready?” Cassian asks, standing from his spot on the couch.
“More than you know,” I laugh waddling over to him.
He leads me out of the palace and neither of us say a word or even dare to brush hands as we walk down the too quiet hallways. Even when this place is empty it feels like it has eyes everywhere. I swear if I looked up right now there would be a dozen people staring down at me. Normally the second that I step outside I feel like I can breathe, but today that’s not the case. I’m thankful that Cassian feels my urgency to get home shooting us both into the sky as soon as possible.
I knew it was dumb but I never got tired of this part of our day. There was a certain sense of joy in getting to spend these peaceful moments with Cassian. Just him and I, the world soaring by around us with the knowledge that I would be home soon and life could resume as normal.
The second we touch down on the House of Wind balcony I’m rushing to Cassian’s room, well I supposed it was our room now, considering I hadn’t slept in my own in over a week. I hear Cass close the door behind me as I fumble for the ties on my dress desperately wanting to take a full, deep breath.
“Here let me help you,”  he pleaded, moving my hands out of his way.
“Thanks,” I breathed as I felt my dress fall to the ground, the impending freedom starting to make my heart race. Cassian’s hands fumbled with the knot at the base of the corset.
“They tied it so tight I can’t break the knot apart,” he said, starting to panic a bit as my breathing quickened.
“Cut it off me Cassian, I can’t breathe,” I rasp trying to pull the top of the corset off my skin a bit to allow my chest to rise and fall normally but it’s useless.
“Shit baby hold on,” he assures me. I hear him draw a dagger from its sheath on his thigh, carefully dragging the tip down the back.
With every single snap of the ribbons I feel my lungs expanding again and the second the torturous garment is on the floor I nearly double over, taking my first full breath.
“Oh my gods,” Cassian curses, his fingertips running down my spine gently, like he might hurt me.
“What? What is it?” I ask looking into the floor length mirror in the corner of the room. In it I can see Cassian looking over my back with furrowed brows.
“They bruised you,” he said, eyes meeting mine in the mirror.
I turn around so I can see myself in the mirror from afar and sure enough a bruise lines my vertebrae where the corset was. No wonder I felt like I heard bones cracking.
“It’s fine, you’ve experienced worse,” I sigh, picking up a discarded robe on the floor and slipping it over my shoulders.
“I’d rather fight a battle than wear a corset,” Cassian snickered and honestly I didn’t blame him.
“At least I’ll never have to wear it again,” I say, tossing the corset aside, taking my anger out on it.
“Does that mean you’ve figured out how you’re gonna handle this?” he asks me tentatively, like he was terrified to either ask or hear my answer.
I turn to meet his eyes, and for a moment I think about taking the easy way out, telling him something that might give him hope. But we had spent so long lying about our feelings for one another, wasting so much time. I wouldn’t lie about this.
“I thought I did, but the last two times I brought up calling off the wedding he-”
“If he touches you again I don’t think I-” he trails off, looking to the side as if he’s trying to compose himself. “Last time it felt like my blood was on fire.”
His admittance nearly brought me to my knees. The anger in his eyes veiled with sadness had me reaching up to cup his face, just needing to feel him.
“I know Cass and I’m so sorry. I know this is hard for you and gods I’m a fucking monster-”
“Fuck y/n,” he shakes his head taking my hands in his. “Don’t you dare apologize. You are trying to save your people and help your court. I’m being a selfish prick.” he says, casting his head down in embarrassment.
My blood boils at the thought that he felt selfish in any sort of way. Even more so that I was the reason.
“No, don't say that,” I order him, squeezing his hands to bring his gaze to mine. “You are the most selfless male I’ve ever known. I love you Cass, and I promise I’m going to figure this out. Because I honestly don’t think I can live without you now. You are everything to me, and so much more. I know I can do this,” I assure him, but really I feel like I’m assuring myself more.
His gaze softens, and a twinge of light flickers in his eyes, one that looks like hope, “I know you can too, My smart, ambitious, caring and beautiful woman,” he praises, pressing a kiss to my forehead. “I am beyond honored to call you my princess.”
“And I’m thankful to call you my general,” I smile, craning my head to read his face. “But mostly I’m just thankful to call you mine.”
“I’ll be yours until my heart stops beating, and maybe even after that if there’s a place we go when our time in this world is through,” he coos, brushing a hair from my face.
“Wherever that place is,” I sigh, pressing my head to his chest and pulling him closer to me. “I’ll follow you there too.”
Tumblr media
The days that followed were generally boring. Cassian would fly up to the Illyrian Mountains with Azriel to further prepare the troops for the impending war.  Apparently Windhaven had become the main stronghold for all the camps, and of course having hundreds of Illyrians in the same camp was more than rowdy. Cass and Az were constantly breaking up fights and coming home worse for wear. One night Cassian had come home caked in mud and blood, which he assured me wasn’t his own.
That night I demanded that he let me get him cleaned up and after hearing a million phrases along the lines of…
“You’re a princess, you shouldn’t be having to clean me up.”
And
“I don’t want to get you dirty.”
I finally convinced the stubborn general to let me take care of him. I took my time rubbing out the knots in his shoulders, his muscles so hard I could barely feel my hands afterwards. The sounds that fell from his lips were enough motivation to keep going though. He even let me wash his wings, something I knew Illyrians didn’t normally tolerate.
I remembered a day when I was just 10 years old and Rhys was 12. I had instinctively reached out to touch Rhys’ wing and he just about had my head. After that I was terrified to go anywhere near them. I could tell he felt bad about the encounter. One day when I was crying over something our father had yelled at me about he hugged me, and used his wings to cocoon me in.  It was enough to bring a smile to my face and ever since then it had become a silly thing he had done whenever I was upset. Gods we hadn’t had a moment like that in years.
Nevertheless, my heart soared when Cassian asked me to wash his wings. I took my time to be extra careful. Grazing over sensitive areas when necessary. But appreciating every breathtaking inch of them.  I didn’t miss the way one of his large wings curled over my frame that night while we lay in bed, almost as if it was its own sentient being thanking me.
“So last family dinner huh?” Azriel said as Cassian and I walked into the living room of the townhouse.
The words rolling off the Shadowsinger's tongue was enough to make my stomach hurt again.  Rhysand had asked for us all to come together one last time for dinner as a family before I married Eris and moved to the Autumn Court.
Cassian hadn’t asked for updates surrounding the nuptials that would be taking place in two days time, which I was thankful for, considering I had none to give. I knew that tonight he would ask for answers, I could tell by the quiet demeanor he had all day. But I would cross that bridge when I came to it.
“Yeah I guess so,” I replied to Az as the three of us made our way to the long dining room table.
I took my usual place at the end of the table next to Azriel, Cassian sat across from me, Mor next to him and then Amren.  Rhys, who always sat at the head of the table, arrived late adjusting the lapels of his jacket.
“Forgive me for being late,” he apologized, taking his seat. “I was just reading the latest reports and well-” he trailed off, not wanting to bring it up.
“What is it?” Amren demanded, leaving no room for him to avoid the question.
“Hybern’s forces are growing and there are rumors that the spring court will stand with him,” Rhys admits and my stomach plummets.
My eyes lift to Cassian’s and find him already looking at me. Worry passes between us. If the spring court has chosen to side with Hybern then we are truly outnumbered, especially if Tarquin refuses to fight. His foot brushes against mine under the table, the only comfort he’s able to offer me at the moment.
“Why would Tamlin do that?” I ask, breaking the silence.
“His father was one of Hybern’s biggest allies in the first war. My guess is that he’s trying to follow in his fathers footsteps,” Rhys turns to me.
“Wouldn’t surprise me,” Mor scoffed, sipping her wine.
The topic of conversation was dropped and dinner continued as usual. The boys swapped fond memories and fought over who was the true winner of last year's snowball fight. All the while I couldn’t shake what my brother had said, if the rumors are true and Tamlin joins Hybern what does that mean for the rest of us? For Cassian, who would no doubt be on the front lines.
I lift my eyes to see him and just like always I nearly have my breath taken away. He had one arm thrown over the back of his chair, the other holding a glass of wine while he laughed at something my brother had said. Cassian was so handsome when he was like this, at ease, laughing with his family. I had yet to see him in battle, but I knew that seeing him that way would be just as knee wobbling. If he was gone then what?
I looked at my family around me, the home my brother had built and fought so hard to protect. The warmth that lived here, it was something that couldn’t be put into words. It could all be gone in seconds, and then everything my brother sacrificed under the mountain? It would’ve been for nothing.
“Well I have to get back and finish some paperwork,” Rhys said, tossing his napkin on the table.
“I have some mission reports to wrap up,” Azriel said, also throwing in the metaphorical towel.
We all stood, our chairs sliding across the wooden floor with a squeak, my eyes found Cassian and I could sense that he wanted to speak to me.
“And you dear sister need to get some beauty sleep for the big day,” Rhysand said, placing a kiss to the top of my head.
I embraced him warmly, taking in every part of him. I knew it wouldn’t be the last time I saw him, or the last time I saw any of them. But with the wedding and war, everything seemed so much more precious now.
We all moseyed over to the front door where I said goodbye to Mor and Amren, as they wouldn’t be attending the wedding. I gave the townhouse one last look, taking in the warm fae lights, the plush carpets and the love that the place offered. I hoped it would be a bright light for me to remember when I would no longer be able to visit. The door closed and I swear a part of me was locked behind it.
“I’ll see you two at home,” Azriel said, he didn’t even give us a chance to say goodbye before shooting off into the sky.
“Walk with me?” I asked Cassian, cocking an eyebrow at him.
“Look at that you’re taking me for walks now, what a responsible dog owner,” Cassian smirks referring to the dog comment made nearly a month ago.
“You’re never going to let me live that down are you?” I laugh bumping into his arm as he holds open the front gate for me.
“Never baby, never,” he laughs
Velrais was beautiful no matter what time of day or what season it was. But summer nights in Velaris had to be my favorite. While growing up I hardly ever got to leave the house, if I did it was when Rhys would sneak me out on night time flights. Often going into the city for sweets or ice cream.
Tonight was perfect. The temperature was just warm enough to merit the lilac satin I was wearing, while the breeze coming off the Sidra kept us both cool. It seemed that the whole town thought it was a perfect night. Many people opted to take their dinner and drinks on outdoor patios, a small band had brought their instruments out for children and couples to dance to, and there was a general scene of merriment everywhere. This was home.
As we got closer to the river and further from the music the breeze picked up and Cassian’s wing shot out to create a shield for me. My mouth was halfway open poised to say something when a small cry came out from behind me. Cassian whipped around to assess the danger even faster than I could, but as we both turned around all we found was a little girl, about 5 years old, running toward me, doll in hand.
“Princess! Princess!” she squealed in excitement as she came to a halt at my feet, tugging on my dress.
“Celia!” shouted a woman running towards us. By the matching black hair and blue eyes I could tell it was her mother. “Get back here this instant!”
“Don’t worry she’s alright,” I smiled towards the mother trying to offer her some reassurance.
The woman quickly halted in her tracks upon seeing my face and bent at the waist, “Your highness please forgive me,” she said quickly.
“Please, please, no bowing,” I laughed, placing my hand on her shoulder.
“You’ll have to forgive this one, she’s much faster than me,” the woman laughed nervously.
I looked down to see the little girl looking up at me with stars in her blue eyes, I bent over to pick her up using all my strength to do so.
“Sounds like she’s going to be a little warrior then,” I laugh. “You should meet my friend Cassian, he’s the general.” I say to Celia hiking her up on my hip to see Cass.
He tucked his wings in tight and wiggled his fingers at the little girl, trying to seem less intimidating. She hesitantly waved back unsure of him and then turned her gaze to me.
“You’re pretty,” she smiled, one of her tiny hands grazing my nose for emphasis.
“Why thank you. I think you’re very pretty as well Celia,” I smile at her cherub cheeks. “Tell me about your dolly,” I say looking at the porcelain doll in her arms.
“Her name's Poppy, she’s a princess too,” Celia stated proudly holding the doll up so I could see her more clearly.
“Well it’s lovely to meet you princess Poppy,” I nodded, shaking the doll's dainty hand.
“Come on Celia it’s time for bed darling,” her mother laughed.
I placed the girl down on the ground and watched her run to grab onto her mothers legs.
“Thank you princess,” she nodded to me. “General,” she nodded to Cassian.
“Of course,” I said, waving goodbye.
As I watched the two walk away hand in hand I couldn’t help but notice the warmth there and the love. At that moment I found myself missing my own mother.  I looked out over the river, the calm black water drifting by as the stars sparkled over Ramiel. The distant sounds of children laughing, adults singing, music playing.
I couldn’t leave this place to chance. This beautiful home that Rhys had built, the shops and restaurants. The people who lived here peacefully and without worry.
I wouldn’t let people like Celia and her mother suffer from my selfishness.
I turned to find Cassian already staring at me expectantly, as is if he was on edge waiting for me to say something. There was a wariness to his stare that told me he knew what came next.
“Cass we need to talk,” I sigh.
I see his metaphorical hackles raise as he speaks, “No y/n, absolutely not. I won’t lose you.” he declared the heat of the argument already rising.
“There isn’t a way out Cassian. I won’t put my people at risk like that. Think of the little girls like Celia. I can’t just sit by and watch her go to the slaughter because I didn’t want to marry someone.” I argue, gesturing to the city behind him. “And what about you? Huh? You heard what Rhys said. If Tamlin is involved and we still don’t have Tarquin’s support, then where does that leave you? On the frontlines. If something were to happen to you and I had to live with the thought that I could’ve done something to stop it but didn’t, I couldn’t live with myself.”
Cassian’s fists clenched at his sides, “I would rather live with you for however long I have left then be without you y/n.” he pleaded.
His words hit like a blow as I felt tears pricking my eyes. This was the end. This beautiful, wonderful thing I had found that made me feel so alive, so loved. It was ending, and it was dying like a star. Burning bright and exploding, taking everything in its path.
“And what about them?” I gestured to the city in the distance as a cheer sounded from one of the taverns. “If I don’t marry Eris that means I’m okay with their blood on my hands Cassian. What does that make me? A monster.”
His jaw ticked,  “So I’m just supposed to sit here and watch you marry him? Watch him put his hands all over you? Watch you have his fucking children!” he roared, eyes only softening when I flinched away from him.
“I’m sorry Cass, but I don’t know what to do anymore. All I know is that I want to save my people, and this is the only way I know how. The safest.” I say calmly.
Cassian steps back and looks over the water, like he can’t even face me and I don’t blame him. He takes a deep breath, seemingly collecting his thoughts and then he speaks for the last time.
“He is going to kill you from the inside out y/n. You’re going to become just like that dog in his kennels,” he grits, unable to meet my gaze. “And I won’t stick around to watch.”
He walks past me, wings nearly knocking me over.
“Cassian please,” I cry trying to reach out for him, but he’s airborne and flying gods know where before my fingers can graze his leathers.
I stand there watching him disappear into the night sky. Once he’s out of sight I swear I hear a roar so loud it rattles Ramiel. I’m left there on the edge of the river with no one but myself to wipe my tears. And I suppose I deserve that, I should’ve never kissed Cassian that night after the ball, should’ve never gone to bed with him. Should’ve never fallen in love with him.
Turns out it didn’t matter what I did, I was a monster either way.
And I sat and thought about that for a long time.

LOTR/ The Hobbit Preference: How You Met (3/4)
(1) (2) (4)
Aragorn
Tumblr media
Aragorn and you met when you were a guest in Rivendell. You were reading in the library and once he spotted you he couldn’t help but introduce himself.
Getting lost in the tale of the large book in your lap, you didn’t notice someone approaching your comfortable spot on the fancy elvish lounge.
“Hello.” You heard a gentle voice announce.
Startled, your legs jumped down from the couch and were quickly placed on the ground below, book thrown beside you.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to startle you. My names Aragorn.”
“It’s alright, in a world of my own. My names y/n, it’s lovely to meet you.” You smile up at the handsome man before you.
Bard
Tumblr media
Bard and you met one evening at a lavish elvish ball in Mirkwood. Bard felt very out of place at such a fancy party, but you managed to remedy his anxieties.
“Are you alright?” Bard heard from beside him. Turning he notice a lovely elf standing beside him.
“I’m sorry?” He asked, not fully catching what you had said.
You can’t help but giggle at the handsome mortal man’s confusion.
“I was just asking if you were alright, you seem a little nervous.”
“Oh, hah, yeh. I’m just not used to such lavish parties.” He responded nervously.
“I understand, they can be a little intimidating sometimes. Would you care for some company, we don’t have to dance but it might help to have a friend. I’m y/n, it’s lovely to meet you.”
“A friend sounds nice. I’m Bard, nice to meet you.”
Boromir
Tumblr media
Boromir found you one afternoon on a snowy day in Gondor, taking your horse for a walk. Being new to Gondor you’d decided to get to know the land and become familiar with your new home.
Petting the dark brown mane of your horse, you turn as you heard the crunching of the snow.
“Oh, hello.” You turn to see the handsome man before you.
“Hello, my lady. Are you alright out here?” He asked, concern lacing his voice.
“Im alright, just going for a walk. I thought I’d get to know the town. I’m y/n, I just moved here last week.” You introduced.
“I’m glad you’re alright, my lady. Such a cold and snowy day, I didn’t want you getting harmed. I’m Boromir, a pleasure to meet you.” He smiles sweetly, talking your hand and giving it a light kiss.
Eomer
Tumblr media
Eomer and you first met at the battle of helms deep. He knew immediately that you were a witch when he laid eyes on you and immediately was filled with distrust. It wasn’t until you healed his sister that he let his guard down.
“Aragorn, let me assist.” You announced as you walked over to the two men and the young woman on the cot.
“You leave us be, witch, we don’t need your kind of help.” Eomer sneered.
“Eomer, let her help. I know how magic has affected you and your family but y/n is a very powerful healer and I give you my word that she means you no harm.” Aragorn defended you.
His attitude was changed as he saw his sister awaken, life returning to her eyes. Walking away, you let the siblings have their moment together.
“Y/n!” You heard Eomer shout.
Turning you see him standing before you.
“I apologise for how I’ve behaved toward you and I thank you for helping my sister and fighting beside us.” He spoke softly.
Faramir
Tumblr media
Faramir met you the first time he came to The Shire after the war. You had been sitting in a field making daisy chains and flower crowns with the young hobbits.
Your laugh filled his ears like sweet bells. Turning he saw you sitting in the lush field, surrounded by flowers and smiling little hobbits.
“You should go and talk to her.” Aragorn smiled at the blushing man.
“Her names y/n. Shes a friend of Rosie’s, comes into town every now and then to help with the children and sell her jam.” Samwise smirked at Faramir at his other side.
“Y/n.” He smiled with wonder in his eyes
Walking over his smile grew the closer he got.
“Hello, my lady. I heard you were the one to go to if I wanted to become an expert flower crown maker.” He smirks down at your seated position in the grass.
“Well you heard right. I’m y/n.” You beamed up at the handsome man.
“Faramir.” He politely bowed.

Tumblr media
ONE. TWO. THREE
I'm sorry I left, but it was for the best, though it never felt right, my little Versailles.
The morning after Sirius left, when your mother and father found out, they disowned your eldest brother immediately—your mother blasted him off of the Black family tapestry. Your mother quickly locked herself in her room afterwards and didn’t step out of the room for a week. You wondered why, but brushed it off to the side. Mother never loved Sirius, Mother never loved any of us. She was just ashamed to have lost her son to blood traitors, half-bloods, and muggle-borns.
Though your mother left Sirius’ room untouched, maybe she wasn’t bothered to clean out her blood traitor of a son’s room.
The news spread like wildfire over the remaining days of the holiday. Your Slytherin friends sent you letters asking if it was true that the Black heir was disowned. You ignored every letter as much as you could, but you can’t deny the truth for long, especially when you’re back at Hogwarts.
“You are not to be in contact with him, do you understand me?” Your mother’s voice echoed in your ears, her eyes emotionless. Keep his name out of your mouth, you don’t deserve to mourn. You thought, as you nodded along with Regulus, you had no choice but to do so.
You were actually dreading going back to Hogwarts after the holidays. The letters Sirius promised, it never came. So you just assumed that he didn’t want anything to do with you or Regulus anymore, completely shutting both of you out of his life. Like your mother, you confined yourself to your room. You just laid in bed, clutching one of Sirius’ old shirts close to your chest. Regulus often stayed with you, giving you the comfort you needed, but still, it wasn’t the same as it used to be.
Meanwhile, Regulus’ heart broke at the sight of his sister grieving and crying almost every night. It was torture to hear her muffled sobs through the walls, but he couldn’t do a thing to make it all better. He was missing Sirius too, which made it harder for him to be there for Y/n. As much as he wanted to be strong for her, he was struggling to deal with Sirius’ absence as well.
He lost a brother too.
But Regulus kept his promise: he would protect Y/n, no matter the cost. His little sister comes first, above all.
Tumblr media
January 2nd, 1977
You watched as the view of King’s Cross faded into view, the cold weather sending goosebumps running down your arms, but you ignored it as best as you could.
“Come on, starlight, I need to get to the Prefects’ carriage,” Regulus sighed, nudging you slightly.
“You go ahead, Reggie.” You smiled softly. “I’m going to go and look for Pandora and Dorcas, don’t worry about me.”
Regulus raised a brow at you. “Are you sure you’re going to be okay?”
You rolled your eyes at his protectiveness. “Yes, I’ll be alright.”
Regulus hesitated for a moment before he sighed and nodded. “Alright, fine. Just be careful, okay? You know what people are saying about Sirius; it might be best to keep a low profile for now.”
You nodded, knowing he had a point. The rumours had already spread, and you didn’t want to deal with all the questions and looks from your classmates. But you also wanted to find out why Sirius never sent any letters in the days that followed his departure.
As Regulus made his way to the Prefects’ carriage, you took a deep breath and decided to go and find James Potter. You knew it was risky, but you needed to find out why. As you made your way through the crowded train, you tried to keep your head down and avoid drawing too much attention to yourself.
Suddenly, while keeping your head down, you collided with someone. When you looked up, you saw James smiling at you, his arm wrapped around your waist to keep you from falling. But you’ve already fallen for him, a long time ago.
“You should be looking at where you’re going, Y/n,” James smirked, the distance between the two a few inches away making your heart flutter in your chest.
“You can let me go now, James.” You chuckled nervously, trying to fight the heat that was rising to your cheeks.
James helped you stand on your feet before taking his arm off of your waist. “So, how are you? Are you okay?”
“You know well for a fact that I am not okay, James.” You crossed your arms over your chest, rolling your eyes. “Where’s my brother?”
James’ smile faltered, knowing exactly which brother you were asking for. “He’s with Remus,”
“Well, what are you waiting for? Take me to my brother, James.”
James awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. “He really doesn’t want to talk to you or Regulus.”
You felt disappointed. You and Regulus were supposed to be the closest people to him. But as much as you wanted to confront James about it, he seemed genuinely concerned for Sirius.
“I'm sorry, Y/n. I wish I could do more to help.”
You sighed, shaking your head. “It's okay, James. I just want him to know that he's not alone, that Reg and I are here for him too.” You smiled sadly, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. “I just really miss him.”
James nodded, his eyes sincere. “I'll tell him, I promise. And Y/n, if you ever need anything, just let me know.”
You smiled gratefully, still feeling conflicted about the whole situation. As James bid you farewell and continued on his way, you couldn't shake the feeling of unease that settled in your chest. Why wasn't Sirius reaching out?
But deep down, you knew that you'd never stop caring about your brother, even if he had chosen to leave. You were mad at him, yes, but that didn't mean you'd just forget him—like the rest of your family did—he was still your Siri, the best friend you and Regulus always had. And as the train rumbled on towards Hogwarts, you made a silent vow to yourself that you would let Sirius know that he was still loved. Because family was everything, and regardless of what had happened, you were determined to bring your family back together.
“For how long are you going to avoid your brother and sister, Padfoot?” James asked, opening the chocolate frog box in his hand.
Tumblr media
Sirius sighed, his eyes glued to the views outside. “I don’t know.”
“You know, Y/n really misses you,” James pointed out, stuffing the box in his pocket.
Sirius looked at James, his brows knitted in confusion. “How do you know that?”
James gulped, avoiding Sirius’ gaze. “I kind of bumped into her a few minutes ago when I went to find the trolley witch.”
“What did you do, Prongs?” Remus asked from beside Sirius.
“Uh, so...InearlytoppledheroverandIheldherwaistsoshedidn’tfall.”
Remus raised a brow. “What?”
James cleared his throat. “I nearly toppled her over, and I held her waist so she wouldn’t fall.”
“What the hell, Prongs!? You put your filthy hooves on my little sister!” Sirius exclaimed, his eyes widening in annoyance.
James held up his hands in defense. “I didn’t mean to! It was an accident, I swear!”
Remus snorted. “Hooves? Really?”
Sirius huffed and crossed his arms, a scowl etched onto his lips. “I'm serious—don't you dare use my own pun at me, James! Keep your filthy hands to yourself when it comes to my sister!”
James nodded sheepishly, raising his hands up in defense. “Alright, alright!”
“I should talk to her, shouldn’t I?” Sirius mumbled, his eyes softening and the scowl replaced by a sad frown.
“Yeah, Padfoot, you should. She loves you, and she just wants to know you’re okay,” James said, placing a hand on Sirius’ shoulder.
Sirius nodded, making up his mind. “Yeah, I’ll do it. I need to let her know that I’m alright.”
“You have a few more hours to think about what you’re going to tell Y/n and Regulus,” Remus said, a smile on his lips. “They’ll understand; don't worry.”
Sirius sighed, knowing all too well that it wasn’t going to be easy to reach out to his siblings. “I hope they will.”
Tumblr media
The Great Hall was bustling with the loud chatter of the students catching up about the holidays. Y/n Black slumped over the Slytherin table, completely forgetting the etiquette lessons she had been forced to learn from her mother for the past years of her life. The youngest Black daughter was in no mood to talk about her holidays, given what happened on Christmas night.
“Y/n, come on, just eat something,” Pandora Rosier, your best friend, urged you to eat.
“I don’t want to,” you grumbled, your lips curling into a frown.
Your friends had been pleading with you for the past fifteen minutes to eat, but you weren’t really in the mood for anything apart from walking back to your dorm room and just going ahead and sleeping the rest of the night away.
“Starlight, please,” Regulus pleaded, his eyes filled with concern. You sighed, rolling your eyes, before grabbing a pumpkin pasty from the plate in front of you and taking a bite. “Happy?”
Regulus groaned, fighting the urge to smile at his sister. “Just eat the damn pasty.”
"So, Y/n, have you finished all of your homework?” Dorcas Meadowes, another one of your best friends, asked.
“Of course I did,” you said matter-of-factly. “Mother would kill me if I didn’t.”
Dorcas snorted. “Your mother is quite charming, isn’t she?”
“She isn’t charming, Dorcas,” Pandora chimed in, her brows knitted in confusion. “Mrs. Black is a terrible woman.”
“It’s sarcasm, Pands." Dorcas rolled her eyes, taking a sip of her pumpkin juice.
“Oi, that’s still our mother,” Regulus said, glaring at the two girls.
“Oh please, Reggie, you and I both know that Mother is a high class bitch.” You chuckled, playfully tossing crumbs of the pasty at Regulus.
Regulus playfully scowled, feigning offense. “Oi, quit throwing crumbs at me!”
“I think your family is probably one of the most dysfunctional families I’ve ever seen.” Dorcas quipped, amusement evident in her eyes.
You laughed, shaking your head. “You have no idea.”
Suddenly, the loud chatter died down to hush whispers. You turned around and saw Sirius walking in with his friends trailing behind him, his head held high as his eyes searched the Great Hall until they landed on you.
Sirius gave you a small smile before making his way towards the Slytherin table. “Can we talk?”
Regulus scowled, his fists clenching involuntarily. “No, go away-”
“Shut up, Regulus!” you hissed, kicking him from under the table. You turned to face your eldest brother. “How nice of you to finally reach out, Sirius,” you said, your voice laced with anger you couldn't stop from spilling out.
Sirius flinched at the harshness of your voice; he had never seen his sister look so angry. “Can we please just talk?” Sirius pleaded, his eyes filled with guilt. “Please, starlight, give me a chance.”
Starlight. You sighed, the nickname tugging on your heartstrings. “Alright, let’s talk then.” You stood up and walked past Sirius, Regulus following closely behind.
Sirius led you and Regulus into an empty classroom, where the three of you settled in. Silence hung in the air, and tension was building between the three of you. “I’m sorry,” Sirius began, his voice filled with regret. “I shouldn’t have left like that; I was just so overwhelmed, and I didn’t know what else to do.”
Regulus crossed his arms over his chest, his lips pressed into a tight line. “You left because you were weak.”
Sirius sighed at Regulus’ words, but he nodded, acknowledging the truth. “I know, Reggie, and I’m so sorry.”
You sighed, feeling hurt. “You hurt both of us, Sirius. You didn’t even let us know if you were alright—I was worried sick about you!”
“I know, starlight, and I regret it every day since I left. It was never my intention to hurt either of you.” Sirius admitted, his eyes filled with remorse.
“So, are you coming back home?” You asked, a hopeful look in your eyes.
Sirius’ eyes darkened for a split second. “No, I’m not going back to that hell hole.’’
“Then what’s the point of apologising, Sirius?” Regulus spat. “You can't just leave us and expect us to be okay with it!”
“But-” Sirius started, but Regulus scoffed loudly, cutting him off. “You are a coward, Sirius. You turn your back on your family and then expect us to just forgive you?”
Sirius sighed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. “I know I can’t expect forgiveness; I don’t deserve it. But I want you to know that I am always going to be your brother, no matter what.”
Regulus scoffed, standing up from his chair. “I don’t need you as my brother.”
You sighed, feeling conflicted between your brothers. You wanted so badly to forgive Sirius, but a part of you was agreeing with Regulus. He can't just leave and expect us to be okay with it. “So what? You’re just going to live with the Potters and forget about us?”
“Yes, but-”
“No, stop before you make yourself sound shallower than you already are.” you interrupted, shaking your head. “I just don’t understand, Sirius. The three of us, we’ve been through so much together, and then just like that, you left us. You left me.”
“Starlight, please….” Sirius begged, stepping closer to you. But you stepped away, unable to look him in the eye.
“You made your bed, Sirius.” You choked out a sob. “Lie in it.”
Sirius hung his head in shame as he watched you leave the classroom. Regulus gave him a final glare before following after you. Sirius sat alone in the empty classroom, feeling the weight of his decisions.
He lost his brother, he lost his sister, he lost his family.

Flowers have sad meanings too
Tumblr media
Florist!Y/N
Many believe that working in a flower shop is all gumdrops and rainbows, but it's not. It's stories of heartbreak and sadness. I wish I could remember their names, but I can't grieve every one of them. No matter how hard I try.
Author's Note: 3/8 of these mini tales are based on encounters I have had while working in my field. They are INSPIRED and not exact.
DISCLAIMER: ANY SIMILARITIES THESE ENTRIES HAVE TO A PERSON, PLACE, EVENT, OR SITUATION IS COINCIDENTAL AND NOT INTENDED TO MIMIC ANYONE.
WARNING: THIS PIECE TOUCHES ON DEATH AND ITS AFFECTS, SUBJECTS OF DEPRESSION, AND ASSUMED SU1C1D3. IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO SUBJECTS LIKE THESE, PLEASE SKIP THIS POST.
Boy #1
He was a boy with his whole life ahead of him. His mother said that he was very protective of his siblings, so protective that it's what took him.
She said it was a break in, one that happened in the dead of night. She never heard it. All she heard was the sound of her daughter screaming for help as her husband tackled the man to the floor. She didn't even hear the gun go off.
He was on his way to college in the fall, full ride. He was very talented. They hope to release his works down the road, but for now, some things stay locked away. Not because they're bad or sad, but because the grief was too fresh.
Boy #2
He was an interesting story. A quiet kid that everyone thought was mean, but was a very sweet guy and an only child. He loved animals.
His flowers were ordered by his friends because his parents were too shattered by the news. One of them couldn't keep it together, ended up telling about him. He was off volunteering to help build houses when one of them collapsed on top of him and a few others. They came out with minor injuries, but he wasn't so lucky. They spew out so many things about his kind heart but stone-like demeanor. It hurt to see that it was also his undoing.
Other families came and ordered, many of them being young kids in the dance classes he taught. Many of the kids still not understanding why their favorite teacher wasn't coming back. His parents finally arrived to order, but my heart was too fragile to be there.
Boy #3
His sister wouldn't stop talking about how he had wanted to do a lot with his life. She said that he was going to the gym everyday to get stronger. He was a gentle soul, a loving gentleman. Sickness took him far too soon.
It started off with a bad cough and a fever, she said. Then it just kept getting worse. By the time he was eighteen, he was fully living in his hospital room. It broke her heart to see how he dwindled away until he was almost nothing but skin and bones. She was thankful that he went in his sleep, going painlessly.
She couldn't stop repeating that she felt like a bad sister, that she should've done more to help him recover. It broke me a little more on the inside when I couldn't tell her that it wasn't up to her to fix him. I could only stay silent.
Boy #4
Only one person ordered him flowers, but it was a lot of flowers. Other than his parents, this boy received flowers from dozens of people. Friends, teachers, acquaintances - you name it. They all ordered through one person as they were the only one in town.
The pieces were extravagant, ranging from small vases to large sprays. They said that they wanted to reflect him; an artist surrounded by colors. No one knows what took him; whether self or sickness. They just found him in his studio one cold winter morning, slumped over an unfinished painting.
They said he'll have a gallery set up after the service, show off the wonders he created. I might go. If not just to see a fellow tortured soul. One day, his name will be known alongside the greats. For now, he'll be known to me.
Boy #5
His flowers were ordered over the phone by his mother, said something about it becoming too final if she stepped into the store.
I heard about this boy on the news. They found him in his car, just off the highway. He was so young, but the demons got to him before anyone else could.
I could only sit silent as she cried in my ear, blaming herself for not helping him. Little does she know the demons live in everyone. Including mine.
Boy #6
This boy was proof that the brightest smiles hide the darkest demons. His sisters couldn't hold themselves together as I flipped through the binder. The older one said that she blamed herself, saying that she should've seen the signs.
He went as he slept, passing in silence. She said that he had been bullied for years, but since he stopped talking about it, they assumed it stopped. They found him gone in the morning. I can never understand how some people find it acceptable to be so harsh to another.
They showed me his photo. He had a bright smile, one that was even wider with his family. It almost breaks my very soul that he suffered alone.
Boy #7
This was my first family order. The poor family was lost due to a faulty monoxide detector. The remaining members were in the middle of suing the landlord on top of mourning the family.
They didn't know until the son failed to show up for school for three days, unlike him they said. Same for the parents.
The boy was said to start high school next year. They were all excited since he would be attending the private school near the edge of town, one that was hard to get into without good grades. Now, the world could never see what he would amount to.
Boy #8
He was a child.
No mother should ever be allowed to outlive her baby. He was innocent, a victim of medical circumstance. They never said what he had, but they ordered him a beautiful urn display.
His younger brother, one still so small, would almost never know about the brother who left too early. His older brother was deployed, but is in an emergency flight back over to give his good byes.
A child...goodness.

I really love your Selkie!Soap au. Maybe Ghost could discover a bit more about Selkie culture, and the generational trauma that Soap might have?
YES!! Love this! Direct continuation of the previous post
Ghost brought Soap a deer. Soap stared at it for a minute before laughing. "What do we do now?"
Ghost hummed. "I'll clean it and cook it for you." And you'll fall in love with me.
"I see." Soap smiled. "Need any help?"
"No, I got it. It's bloody work but if you want sit with me..."
So they sat together in the little shed, both mostly quiet but the radio was playing. Soap watched him work and Ghost tried not to glance at him too often. He wore a surgical mask but that was more for cleanliness than anything else.
They ate well, both of them sitting next to each other as the sun set.
Soap ended up stealing some of Ghost's off his plate despite there being plenty of food still in the kitchen but it was fine. He glared at Soap who only smiled at him.
A ringtone sounded and Soap froze. It sounded like a personal one.
Ghost didn't move for a moment, waiting for Soap to pick it up. Soap just stared for a minute, picking at the food for a second before remembering himself and answering.
"Hey, dad."
Ghost perked up immediately. He had heard next to nothing about Soap's dad. He wondered if he was a selkie too. Or something else.
"Yes, sir. I am on leave, but my..." There was a pause before Soap swallowed. "My coat holder commanded I come with him."
Ghost frowned a little, but he stayed quiet.
"Yes. It's new. I haven't had... Yes, sir." Soap was visibly wilting. "I am... He's commanding me back. Sorry, sir." He hung up after a second and quietly put his phone down.
"I take it your dad is not... good?"
"No. I hope you two never have to talk, but its best he doesn't know we're close." Soap rubbed his arm, looking tiny and cold. Ghost scooted closer.
"Are you alright?"
"It's how he always is. He was excited someone has my coat again. That I'm at your mercy. He's a fucking prick." Soap looked down. "My mom can't leave him or else I'd never talk to him again."
"He... has her coat?"
"Yeah. I tried to find it. Took a couple slaps for it. But I never could. Swear I tore that place apart looking."
Ghost pulled Soap closer. "I see."
"He's such a bawbag."
"Is she the only selkie you know?"
"No. I know a few. All of them are like her. Trapped in their positions. Either as a spouse or caretaker or worker or..." Soap sighed. "No choice. No control. Stuck until either the coatholder dies or we get lucky."
Ghost was quiet for a while before reaching over and pulling him closer. "You... want this, right?"
"I do. Don't worry. You gave it back. You're a good man." He leaned into him. "My sister got lucky. She's just human. My other sister is a selkie but dad... protects her a little more. I think it's because she's the baby."
"Coatholder. Is that what you guys call them?"
"Not the most creative name, but yeah. Gets the message across. For a while Master was used but... yeah, it felt just a little too degrading." Soap hummed and shoved the plate towards him. "He'll want to meet you. I can try to lie and keep you from him. I don't... I don't want him to know it's my choice. If he knows..." Soap started to breath heavier, holding on to Ghost.
"Johnny, you're okay. He can't do anything to you."
"It's not me I'm worried about." Soap said softly. "If he gets upset he takes it on her and..."
Ghost winced. This entire situation reminding him just a little too much of his own time growing up. "If your mom had left your dad, would you have grown up a seal?"
"No. She likely would've abandoned me." Soap answered honestly. "It sucks but that's reality. I would've been left with him and my sisters. Can't blame her. She didn't choose to have me."
Ghost frowned and gently touched his chin, making him look at him. He smiled awkwardly. "You know when I came back from the military, the first thing I did was wait in my mom's kitchen."
"Why?"
"For my dad to hit her. He did eventually. He always did. It was all the excuse I need. I dragged him outside and beat him to hell for it."
Soap looked surprised. "Damn."
"Mom kicked me out for it. But she didn't let him back in the house either and that's all that mattered to me." Ghost took a deep breath. "I should meet your dad."
"Simon. You can't beat up my dad."
"I could, but I just think I should meet him. I want to meet your mom too."
Soap didn't look convinced but he nodded. "Alright, Si. Alright." He kissed his hand gently, looking tired. "Mind if we go to bed?"
Ghost hummed. "Course not. I'll see you in the morning."
"I'll be in the spare room, of course." Soap smiled at him, a hint of teasing there.
Ghost followed him like a shadow until he got to his door and then went to his own room.
Once he was in bed, he stared up at the ceiling quietly. He thought of Soap's mom, the gentle voice on the phone and how Soap shrank back.
It must be hard. Trusting Ghost of all people with so much. Even now, the thought occurred to him that it wouldn't be very hard for him to take the coat back. Or even just hurt him. They were alone in the middle of the woods.
And Soap still trusted him.
If it was anyone else, he'd call them an idiot for trusting the Ghost, but he knew as well as Johnny did that Ghost was harmless to him.
Did those other selkies think their human was harmless? Was their first meeting them taking the coat? Demanding so much from them?
Someone had done this before. Soap had mentioned someone had taken it before. On purpose. Had they hurt him? Forced him to do anything?
The idea of a younger Soap being controlled the way Ghost had read about in those stories made him feel sick.
He got up at some point and like the needle on a compass, he pointed towards his north star.
Soap was probably asleep. He also used the spare for a reason. Ghost shouldn't bother him. There were boundaries for a reason.
Soap's sad eyes popped back into his head. The distant look when he talked about the past or the others he knew.
He didn't knock in case he was asleep.
Soap jerked up immediately. "Jesus, Ghost you scared me. Something wrong?"
"Scoot over."
"What?"
"Scoot over." Ghost repeated, staring at him. Both their eyes reflected the light, both finding each other easily.
Once Soap did move over, Ghost climbed in with him. He pulled him safely to his chest and held him.
"No one is ever going to touch you again." Ghost mumbled into his hair. "I'm never going to let something like that happen to you again."
"You don't even know what they did." Soap knew exactly what Ghost was talking about, like always.
"Doesn't matter." Ghost squeezed him. "Never again."
Soap let Ghost hold him, putting his head on Ghost's shoulder. "Get some sleep, Simon. I know you must be tired."
Ghost slept better knowing Soap was safe with him.

So I wrote this weird book about queer dragons. It came out the same day as the other dragon book everyone talks about. It was a Sunday Times bestseller in the UK, though, which was incredible!
However, I'm not sure how to continue to promote this book--people either seem to really like it, or not quite get it. Or it just wasn't what they expected. Which is fine, no book can please everyone, and I knew I'd made some unusual craft choices that was going to make it more marmite. (Or, as my brain tells me at midnight, I'm just a bad writer). However, there's that librarian saying "every book its reader" and the people who love this book REALLY love it, and that makes me so happy. So I decided to write this post and explain its weirdness and lay out what you can expect if you do pick it up. Maybe you're my kind of odd, too. :-)
Short pitch: 800 years ago, dragons and humans were bonded, then humans were dicks, stole the dragons' magic, and banished them to a dying world. But humans have short memories, forgot, and now worship dragons as gods. The dragon "gods" remember, and they do not forgive.
Thief Arcady steals their grandsire's stone seal (which helps them funnel magic) from their tomb. Their grandsire supposedly released a magical plague that killed a proportion of society, and Arcady is locked out of society as a result. They perform a spell to rewrite the seal to have a new identity as they want to go to university at the Citadel and also clear their family's name. Problem? The spell also accidentally calls through Everen, the last male dragon, trapped in human form. Everen has been foretold to save his kind, and now he has a chance: he just has to convince one little human to trust him mind, body, and soul, and then kill them. Then he'll be able to steal the human's magic back, rip a hole in the Veil, and the dragons can return. Good news for dragons, less good news for humans. As you might expect: this does not go to plan. Because emotions.
Grab it now. (Note: there's still a contractual delay so it's not available in US audiobook yet, annoyingly. Hopefully soon). (If you are like "weird queer dragons?! Sign me up" but aren't interested in hearing why the author has made certain decisions and want to go into the text cold, stop here! Death of the author/birth of the reader, etc. Otherwise, carry on.)
You should pick up Dragonfall if:
You like experimental narrative positions! It's all collected by an unnamed archivist who has access to both first person narratives (Arcady, the genderfluid human thief, Everen the hot dragon) and can scry into the past and draw out third person narratives (Sorin, hot priest assassin. Cassia, Everen's sister, who is also hot. Spoiler: everyone in this book is hot). Then to make it even weirder, Everen's bits are technically in first person direct address, so he's writing it all to Arcady (the first chapter ends with: "For that human was, of course, you. And this is our story, Arcady.") I ended up writing it this way for a few reasons, even though it probably would have been simpler to just stick to straight up third throughout, like most epic fantasy does. The big one is that Arcady is genderfluid and uses any pronouns (I tend to default to they when I talk about them outside of the text), and constantly gendering them in the text felt wrong whether I used he, she, or they. This way bypasses that a lot in the first volume, so it's up to the reader to make up their own mind. I also just really love first person direct address as a narrative position. It can be a little confronting, and it makes Everen the dragon sound a bit more predatory at the start. But it's also quite intimate. Is he writing his sections as an apology, or a love letter? Both? You find out at the end. So if your green flag books are: The Fifth Season, The Raven Tower, or Harrow the Ninth, this might also be your jam.
You love classic 90s fantasy. This is in many ways an homage to all the stuff I read growing up: Robin Hobb and the Realm of the Elderlings (the book is dedicated to Hobb in particular), the Dragonriders of Pern, Tad Williams, Lynn Flewelling, Robert Jordan, Mercedes Lackey, Tamora Pierce, etc. But I wanted to give it a more modern twist. I'm NB and growing up I didn't see a lot of queerness in fantasy, and I clung to the examples I did find (Vanyel, the Fool). Also, not 90s fantasy, but I also freaking loved Seraphina by Rachel Hartman and Priory of the Orange Tree, so those were influences too.
You're not put off by Worldbuilding(TM) and a slower pace. Probably because I grew up on the likes of Tad Williams, I honestly love slow-paced fantasy. I love to luxuriate in a world and take my time getting to know a made up world. In Assassin's Quest it takes over 100 pages for Fitz to leave the forest. Love it. I have a more lyrical writing style, I guess, and I'm pretty descriptive. My stuff always tends to start off slower, set the stage, and then ramps up the pace as we get further along. So yes, my book starts out with some infodumping, depending on your tolerance level of that sort of thing. I worked with a linguist and they made a conlang for the dragon language (hi @seumasofur). There's a map by Deven Rue (cartographer for Critical Role). I got nerdy.
You love queernorm fantasy! This is set in a world where it's considered rude to assume a stranger's gender and so you tend to default to they/them. If you consider someone much higher in status than you, you'd capitalise it to the honorific, such as They/Them. Once you get to know someone, you tend to flash your pronouns to them with a hand signal, since a sign language called Trade is also a lingua franca in the world. 99.95% of all the dragons are also lesbians, BTW. Everen is the last male dragon.
You like frankly silly levels of slow burn. Everen and Arcady can't physically touch without it causing Everen pain while they're half-bonded. They may or may not find creative loopholes. But it's not mega mega spicy, if you're expecting that. I expect the spice levels will gradually go up as the series progresses.
Alright, I think that's more than enough to give you a sense of what you'd find in Dragonfall. If you're open to sharing this post so it reaches more people outside of my little corner of the internet, I'd really appreciate it. Whenever I do any bit of self-promo, I'm always so anxious and worry it'll get like, 2 eyeballs on it anyway or that I'm just annoying people by mentioning that my art even exists. And if you end up liking it, please tell a friend.
I'm loving the recent dragon renaissance! Long live dragons.
