SPOILERS chapter 387 leaks
Oh my god I want to scream. Keeping Up With the Todorokis is always SO GOOD.
Horikoshi may fumble sometimes with execution but when it comes to the Big Moments where he really has his themes down he NAILS IT, and he almost always hits it out of the park with the Todoroki family.
It makes sense. The Todoroki Family is the microcosm of all the societal criticism in My Hero Academia. I mentioned this more specifically when talking about the narrative importance of Endeavor's redemption here. Horikoshi knows exactly what he wants to say with them because they are so unsubtle in the way they convey The Message.
But I want to talk a little more about Rei and Endeavor here and how they have such an absolutely fantastic dichotomy with each other.
Endeavor is: I have failed my family. I must atone by being the best hero I can be; if I can save the world as a hero, I can save my family; my son is too far gone, but now that I've atoned I realize I'm not strong enough to save him so instead I will die with him and give him his last wish. I've realized how much he's hurting, and this is all I can do for him now.
Meanwhile Rei is: I have failed my family. I must atone by being a better mother. I must be there for my children now and know them as people. I will never, ever give up on saving my children. I will run into literal fire and try and save them until the very end because Touya is my son and that is what a mother does.
As a sidenote, I'm not saying Rei is as culpable as Enji in 'failing her family.' Obviously not the case, and I could make a whole long post about my feelings on Rei's role in the Todoroki family that other people have probably conveyed way better than I could. But the point is they both feel like they're responsible, and they both feel like they need to atone. And the way this chapter shows them as such perfect foils to each other in their mindset toward atoning for their family is just SO GOOD.

Bro, let鈥檚 not forget Chapter 1 Izuku is only just two years younger than current Izuku.
Like the amount of trauma and body harm this child has been through in only TWO YEARS.
