Do you guys really believe that killing is the singular bad thing that cops do?
Or even that killing is the most frequent bad thing that cops do?
Are you saying that if cops didn't kill, then they'd be the same as Batman? Because then you're suggesting that effectively Batman already is a cop, with the exception that he hasn't killed (just like the majority of U.S. cops, who have never once shot or killed anybody).
I'm a bit worried to see opinions suggesting that only killing is wrong—and that violence, stalking, and humiliation are okay. In real-life, police commit countless acts of those "little" abuses, terrorizing entire communities, before they murder anybody.
Invading people's privacy is wrong. Hurting people to the point of hospitalization is wrong. Forcibly drugging people is wrong. Putting people in cages is wrong. Torture and "enhanced interrogation" are wrong. Ambushing people in their homes and safe places is wrong. Keeping inexhaustible wealth is wrong.
Superhero comics are power fantasies. Not all fantasies need to reflect our ideology in reality. But once you apply your real-life values to fiction, once you decide that fiction showcases exemplary real-life ideology—then your praise for Batman's ideology does become a worrying reflection of your real-life understanding of social issues.

sorry I'm new to mcyt -- wym, flower husbands is the reason we can openly ship desert duo?? was shipping still frowned upon in the community until a couple years ago???
there was some really viscous discourse about shipping (and. angst. yeah. angst) in hermitblr in late 2019 early 2020. like. death threats and doxxing bad. harassed Cleo off of Tumblr bad. people were really apprehensive to even touch shipping with a 10 foot poll after that. hell, people are still scarred by it and honestly i feel a little guilty bringing it up again, but i feel like. those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. you know? so i at least want to provide some context. can't even answer privately bc its an anon 😔
I wasn't even there (fortunately, my time in hermitblr consisted of early 2019, losing interest mid 2019, and going "ooh i hear there's a new season!" in mid 2020. dodging it comically) and was nervous to post about it at all back during 3L. That's changed obviously, which I personally attribute to FH, which i explain more here.
the shipping discourse is still around, it's just more on twitter nowadays. haven't checked in with twitter lately so i don't know if its better than it had been, but i do remember people policing who each other follow, and "canceling" people for following "known shippers".
In the lifesteal tumblr fandom i had a few friends called out for shipping, so it think the mcyt shipping acceptance of tumblr is more in the hermit/empires/traffic side of things than EVERYWHERE.
basically tumblr rn is just. "tag your shit, filter tags, block liberally, but let people live". honestly i haven't been checking to make sure things have been properly tagged lately. which i should. its polite. definitely tag all your original posts with hermitshipping/trafficshipping/whatevershipping. helps people avoid it if they don't wanna see it which will help prevent conflict.
uhh. vote flower husbands

Bi women and queer nb people can still identify as butch even if they are dating a cis man.
You know why?
1) Because it's THEIR identity.
2) You do not know if they have a polyamorous relationship or monogamous, AND it isn't your business.
3) Most people, myself included, don't stop being attracted to other people just because they're in a relationship. In fact, it's healthy to acknowledge that you're attracted to someone. Whether that's celebrities, quietly pointing out another hot person on the street, etc. As long as you're communicating with your partner and not crossing their boundaries or betraying their trust, that's actually a great thing to do in a relationship!
4) Also, on the matter of if other people consider someone butch, just remember that you are not everyone. Just because you don't think this person is "butch enough" does not mean everyone else will share your opinion. In fact, even if you and a few other people don't view this person as butch, that does not mean they cannot use the word butch.
In my circumstance, I am active in queer groups of my own age groups where in multiple instances I have been called "butch" by several people. The person who told me I shouldn't call myself butch is not present in those groups. And they don't have to be.
Most people in the community that I've interacted with about this agree that as long as you yourself identify as a butch, at least some other people identify you as a butch, and the groups of people you are attracted to include non-men, then congrats, you're butch!

i wonder if all of this discourse is happening because people keep believing that their headcanons are canon truths rather than... headcanons/fanon. seems like people think mike called will or has a secret letter to him and they headcanon about that, but they use those headcanons as arguments for canon which then makes... no sense? it is not canon that mike called will and it is not canon that he wanted to send a letter but couldn't or has a secret present or vice versa. it is not canon that he 'didn't call because he has secret feelings that he repressed', like bruh. not to mention this has been a direct parallel to s3 and how incompitable mlvn's relationship is. they did this same thing in s3 when they ignored their friends. only el stopped it because she recognized it was toxic in s3 and went to be friends with max. the audience is supposed to will see in the right because he is objectively right in those scenes when it comes those scenes, if the audience doesn't see him in the right then the whole point of those scenes makes no sense and The Point dies ideologically. It reminds me of ppl arguing that Will should have stopped wanting to play d&d in S3 and mike and lucas were right.
it's funny that you consider that discourse because i don't
yeah that's why saying people shouldn't side with will as much at rink mania "because mike called" is not a compelling argument to me like. you literally don't know that. it's A THEORY. and of course theories can come true and mike liking will back at all is also just a theory but idk. i'm not going up to people who don't like mike telling them that he's closeted and in love with will so he's not as bad as they think yk, i don't think it makes sense to counter with a theory, more people see will as being in the right because there's no need for speculation
but yeah of course we're supposed to side with will since the whole day shows that once again mike and el are making everyone else miserable, including themselves but i don't see how that's will's fault because it's quite literally self-inflicted. sorry will let the day that was supposed to be about the two of you be about the two of you i guess idk

recently i've seen an uptick in demonizing scottish fold breeding, due to FOCD (feline osteochondrodysplasia), the gene variant that gives folds their iconic ears. im very sleep deprived so im only going to give a basic rundown that i will hopefully word correctly but if anyone is genuinely interested i can go more into it,
FOCD is caused by a single gene variant in TRPV4, which causes the cartilage to change, giving the ears their fold.
a lot of the discourse i've seen is very surface level, showing xrays of homozygous cats with malicious FOCD, as all homozygous folds have, and acting as if all scottish folds will end up that way.
they won't, right? well, no, not necessarily. but it is true every scottish fold has FOCD, or else they wouldn't be scottish folds, and would be classified as scottish straights which i will get into later. also, homozygous means having 2 copies of the same allele for a trait, with heterozygous meaning you have 2 different alleles for it.
despite every fold having it, there are 3 "variants" of fold i will use to explain the situation. straights, as in scottish straights that do not have FOCD, homozygous folds, which i suppose you can compare to a double merle dog. if 2 folds are bred, the kittens will be homozygous, which causes malicious FOCD, which is extremely painful and can warrant euthanasia, and then there are heterozygous folds, which come from a fold x straight cat, or just any cat that isn't a fold. heterozygous folds have been shown to have much lower chances of developing malicious FOCD, but it does still happen. about that,
there have been very few studies with proven wellbred purebred folds, i can only think of one close right now, "Osteochondrodysplasia in Scottish Fold cats" R MALIK, GS ALLAN, CR HOWLETT, DE THOMPSON, G JAMES, C McWHIRTER and K KENDALL (1999).
pedigree information was available for nine of the ten cats studied, all should have been heterozygous based on their parentage. 8 were from fold x scottish matings but one was from a fold x british mating. all ten folds showed some degree of FOCD on xray but there was wide variation in the severity and rate of progress of the condition, ranging from two cats euthanized at 6 and 21 months, to the cats aged 4, 5, and 11 years who were from the breeding cattery and were reportedly asymptomatic. the 11 year old had milder changes on xray than the 4 year old.
this study, being 25 years old, obviously doesn't fit today's standards i would say. it needs to be redone, with proven cats from well known responsible catteries. i have a couple more off the top of my head that aren't nearly as in depth, but provide useful information
what is the solution, and conclusion? are scottish folds inherently bad? well, as much as i hate to say it, we don't know. there isn't enough evidence to say yes, and not enough to say no for absolute certain. another study NEEDS to be done, preferably with CFA or TICA champions which definitely would weed out 99% of byb cats, although studying them aswell to compare is also crucial. i would say, the outlook is good, but rocky. the study has proven difficult to make happen, and i believe that ties into the overall attitude of most of the cat show world, but i may get into that some other time. in the meantime, responsible breeders should continue rigorous health testing before breeding, never breeding 2 folds together (including being wary of straights, as if you don't know the exact background of it, it may be a fold genetically that had it's ears stand back up in kittenhood), and soft-culling any cats that show any signs of FOCD that go past the ears. sillysealfan OUT

when i was a kid watching the episodes with lapis lazuli i gave the crystal gems a lot of leeway because i always assumed they were unaware of the origins of the mirror, and while they are probably unaware of its exact moment of construction or whatever, pearl does specifically say that it's "gem-powered".
being older and thinking clearer(and having the benefit of knowing the background of pearls on homeworld) it's especially startling, but also narratively rich and chewy, to hear pearl say that it's nothing but a tool and shouldnt be able to think.
