67 Alejandro Balde please:))
Lover~Alejandro Balde
Tumblr media
*GIF isn't mine. credits to the owner*
you know I had to mention taylor swift here, esp after I found out that Ale doesn't like Taylor Swift 🙃. enjoy <3
you can request from my prompt list
this is my master list
players/drivers I write for
67-“please play guitar for me.”
After the bad match and shitty referee, Alejandro was devasted. They didn't manage to score, and the referee was definitely against them.
y/n watched the match from home, not being able to travel with Ale, but she knew that when Alejandro would come, he would be in a bad mood.
She decided to make him his favorite dinner, with some dessert, of course without breaking his strict diet.
Alejandro texted y/n, telling her not to wait for him and just go to sleep. She saw the message and didn't reply, she wanted to be there when he came.
After a few hours, y/n heard the front door open. She rushed to the door, to see a very tired Ale with his bag.
"amor. I told you to sleep, you have work early in the morning tomorrow" he said, a weak smile on his face.
y/n ignored him and wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. He hugged her back, dropping his bag on the floor.
"I took tomorrow off because I know you would be tired and I wanted to help" she said into his neck
He smiled, pressing a kiss on the side of her head. She pulled away and looked up at him.
"I made you some dinner. come on" she tried walking away but he grabbed her wrist before she did so
"I don't want to eat. I had a small snack after the match and I'm not hungry" he said, exhaustion evident in his voice
"are you sure? its already done, I can put some quickly" she said
He smiled and shook his head
"I'm sure...I just...play guitar for me please?" he asked in a soft voice, making y/n realise how tired and disappointed he is. Her heart clenched at his request. He always found comfort in her playing the guitar and singing for him
She smiled and nodded. Ale flopped down on the couch, y/n walked to her room, grabbing her guitar and walking back to the living room
"what do you want me to play for you?" she asked, placing the guitar on her lap
"Lover" he said, making y/n pull a confused face
"I thought you didn't like taylor swift?" she asked, a small smile on her face
"not when you play her songs though. plus she's grown on me a bit. I mean what do you expect when my girlfriend doesn't listen to anything but her" he chuckled making y/n smile wider
She pressed a kiss on his cheek, before starting to play the guitar for him. He laid his head on her shoulder
We could leave the Christmas lights up 'til January And this is our place, we make the rules
And there's a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you dear Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?
Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever?
And ah, take me out, and take me home
You're my, my, my, my Lover
She stopped playing and looked at Ale, he was looking at her with a smile, making her smile too
He leaned up, and pressed a kiss on her lips, pecking them for a few times after that
"thank you" he whispered against her lips, his eyes half closed
"anything to make you feel better babe" she whispered back

i’m halfway through listening to 1989 in writing order and it’s so good! i always liked the original tracklisting, but i think i like this order better??? do you enjoy all the albums more in writing order or are there any you prefer the original tracklist of?
oooh good question. 1989 in chronological order is definitely the one that transforms the original album the most to me— it was my favorite album even before doing the timeline, but that stretch from wildest dreams to clean is just. god you can see her devolve into cynicism in every aspect of her life— in romance, in friendship, and in herself— and then choose hope anyway. it’s just. it’s so good. if i were her i would’ve had such a hard time not releasing it in order, it paints such a clear picture
i would say red is another one that really changed for me. it might be because i quite literally watched, listened to, or read every single interview she gave in 2011, so i really got in her head that year, but the 2011 songs— all to well through eyes open— are just. it’s another moment where you can see her become Herself. it’s a heartbreak in remission, as maisie would say. my biggest revelation was starlight— in order, it becomes a really important moment of growth for her, the first new interest after she had to burn her life down around her, and it’s like, yeah, that’s why vintage fashion became so synonymous with the red era, and why she started to lean so heavily on constant transformation in the face of pain. that being said, red’s track listing idea of ping-ponging you between opposite emotions is just genius, and going from treacherous -> ikywt is a stroke of genius
on the flip side, i think the original tracklist for fearless is near perfect— the way you slowly watch her self respect grow throughout the album is genius. breathe -> tell me why -> you’re not sorry is just. god what a trinity. in chronological order you do get an interesting back in forth from should’ve said no-> come in with the rain -> white horse -> the other side of the door -> you’re not sorry that i adore, but the rest of the album in order doesn’t do much for me.
none of the other albums are particularly noteworthy but brief thoughts—
rep’s two halves of the same story tracklist is another genius idea, but i also adore how king of my heart is the second song she wrote for that album, and it kinda connects i don’t want to live forever to the story of that relationship in an interesting way.
speak now has always been hard to tracklist for me? i get why taylor was kinda losing her mind about it in spring 2010, there’s a lot of good songs but it’s hard to connect them. that run from innocent -> haunted -> last kiss -> long live is just genius though.
there’s just way to many songs, and she was learning so much about the principals of songwriting, for me to evaluate debut in a similar way as the other ones (if i were taylor i would also procrastinate on picking vault tracks).
and then lover-midnights i haven’t done that big of a deep dive on, and also most of those albums were written in like, a 4 month period, so the things that make red and 1989 sing to me are gonna be a bit harder to pull out

2️⃣3️⃣ BANGERS FROM 2023 🎶
I listened to a lot of music in 2023!!! I love music!! There was sooooo much new-to-me music that I found this year, especially since I really committed to listening more widely to k-pop.
BUT if I made a list of new-to-me music I enjoyed this year we would be here forever, so I've made a list of 23 songs that came out in 2023 that made my year, and that I wanted to share with people. Enjoy!!! (I stuck to one song per artist, with one exception.)
Commentary under the cut!
Memories, RIIZE – What can I say; they're my boys of 2023. This is probably not going to be their sound going forward but I'm so glad they put it out as their first ever full song, because it's the perfect boyband song and it hooked me from day one.
Baggy Jeans, NCT U – This is Thee song of 2023. I will entertain no arguments on that.
The Last One, Maisie Peters – This did the same thing to my brain this year that Taylor Swift's Long Live did to it in 2010 which I think says everything.
Angel Eyes, NCT 127 – Yes, I realize NCT 127 is most known for crazy anti-music. This is like... anti-anti-music. It's Doyoung Does Journey. It's perfect in every way and I love it so much.
Naked In Manhattan, Chappell Roan – I realize this technically came out as a single in 2022 but I didn't appreciate it then and when I was picking a song off The Rise & Fall Of A Midwestern Princess it had to be this one, for me.
get him back!, Olivia Rodrigo – Everyone loves it for a reason, the reason is because it rules.
Something To Believe In, Kesha – If you haven't listened to Kesha's album from this year do yourself a favor and go do so right now. It's discomfiting and gorgeous.
CAKE, KARD – I dunno why I thought KARD was going to be music for heterosexuals. It is not music for heterosexuals. Watch the dance practice to see a giant LA frat-adjacent boy serve cunt.
On My Youth (English Version), WayV – This whole album rules but this stands out to me as a really great song that works perfectly both in Chinese and in English. They really sell it and it slaps. Also, the dance challenge they did for it stands out as the most fun one I saw all year, which really has nothing to do with the song but made me follow them on Instagram and now I'm obsessed with them.
Paint The Town Red, Doja Cat – Another one where it's just like... The Masses Are Correct. It's great.
Good Enough, CHANYEOL – This song makes my entire body and brain relax.
Beautiful Liar, MONSTA X – Classic Monsta X, fun and exciting and interesting and cool as hell. Video rules. So grateful we got this before they all had to enlist this year.
Back for More (with Anitta), TOMORROW X TOGETHER – The squawk of outrage that I made when I watched this video for the first time and Kai was hot in it.........also it was on repeat for a solid 4 weeks. It's catchy, Anita's part is great, and it ruined my life a little.
Get it? Got it? Good (feat. Amber Liu), Jessica – A late addition that is on repeat as we speak. Proof that a good hook is magic, IMO.
I AM, IVE – I'm ashamed that it took seeing IVE in concert to realize how fucking great they are, but they are so great, and this entire album is so solid with this song as the glittering diamond in it.
Voice, JOOHONEY – This one also feels a bit like cheating because I actually heard it in 2022, in concert. But it came out this year on Jooheon's solo album, and it's just... so, so good, and it makes me feel so much.
God Of Music, SEVENTEEN – I went back and forth between this and Super, but in the end, this won out for sounding like a party in progress, and being the Seventeen song that made me really take a second look at them and promptly fall down the rabbit hole. It's so fucking good, and it's so fucking fun, and they deserve all the recognition they got this year.
TOPLINE (Feat. Tiger JK), Stray Kids – A very Stray Kids song, by Stray Kids. I think it's my favorite from them this year, though there's definitely competition. This is winning due to the amount that I sing along to it in my kitchen.
BOUNCY (K-HOT CHILLI PEPPERS), ATEEZ – ATEEZ are more my boys-in-law than my boys, but far be it from me to deny that BOUNCY is one of the songs of the year. I cannot put that shit on without dancing along.
One Kiss, Red Velvet – Chill Kill is a phenomenal album front to back, but this song stands out as soooo perfect. Throwback vibes but feels contemporary, great vocals, lots of fun.
Guilty, TAEMIN – Primarily I'm obsessed with the artistic choices Taemin made on this album, but even discounting that, this song is a masterpiece.
NO PROBLEM (Feat. Felix of Stray Kids), NAYEON – This is a light, fun, kind of soothing bop which, if it were anyone else who'd featured I'd have probably been like "why did you ruin it with a random feature", but somehow since it's Felix featured he just brightens it up even further. I love it.
Talk Saxy, RIIZE – Yeah, of course this was going to be the artist who got two. What can I say. I was skeptical when the title "Talk Saxy" dropped, and then was made to eat my words so thoroughly I am now obligated to talk up Talk Saxy every time RIIZE comes up for the rest of my life. A perfect boyband bop, goofily age appropriate song, great dance, great vocals, good boys. Made me so excited about their future and sealed the being obsessed with them deal. Hashtag Stan RIIZE.

bestie how would u rank taylor’s albums 👀
Thank you so much for asking! Putting under a cut, because it got a little long:
1. Speak Now. It was during that era (around December 2010 or January 2011) that I got into Taylor Swift and even though Red used to be at the top for me (and Speak Now was a close second), I've come to appreciate Speak Now more. I feel like this is Taylor at her most honest and vulnerable, which makes sense considering she wrote the entire album by herself when she was just 19/20, which is quite an achievement. Also the Speak Now Tour movie is just amazing. Favorites are Back to December, Mine, Never Grow Up, Mean, Dear John, The Story of Us, Enchanted, Innocent, Last Kiss, Long Live and If This Was a Movie
2. Red. I just love Red, it was my favorite album for quite a while, and it should have won Album of the Year back in 2013 imo. There's only song I don't really like, but it's also kinda catchy so I don't mind it that much. Also love the vault tracks in Red TV! Favorites are State of Grace, Red, Treacherous, All Too Well, Holy Ground, Begin Again and Nothing New.
3. Evermore. The fact that she wrote this and released just a few months after writing Folklore is insane. It's the one album I don't skip any songs. Favorites are Cowboy Like Me, Gold Rush, Coney Island, Tis the Damn Season, Happiness and Marjorie.
4. Folklore. I really don't have much to say about Folklore beyond "it's great" and I loved the concept. My favorite songs from it are The 1, Cardigan, Mirrorball, Seven, This is Me Trying, Invisible String and Peace
5. Fearless. Love Story was the first TS song I ever heard when I was just like 8 years old (it was on the soundtrack of this movie I watched with my mom called Letters to Juliet) and here we are today. There are a couple of skips, but overall it's a great album imo. Favorites are Fearless, Fifteen, You Belong With Me, Love Story, Breathe, Hey Stephen and Forever & Always.
6. Debut. Appreciate this album more!!! The vocals are a bit off because she was just 16 and the equipment probably wasn't the best, but that doesn't affect the songs that much in my opinion. Like Fearless, there a few skips, but it doesn't affect the album that much. The stand outs imo are Our Song, I'm Only Me When I'm With You, The Outside and Teardrops on my Guitar.
7. Reputation. It's lower on the list, but in my opinion out of her 3 officially purely pop albums, it's her best one and I really like the concept of the album, but I do feel like there are few songs that sound way too much alike in terms lyrics/storytelling and 2 songs that are skips imo. My favorite songs from Reputation are Delicate, Getaway Car, Gorgeous, Dancing with Our Hands Tied, King of My Heart, Dress and Call It What You Want.
8. 1989. It's a fun album, but I just feel like there's something missing. The songs aren't bad (except for like maybe one or two), but I think the lyrics feel watered down in comparison to the other ones (even the one that's below 1989 on my ranking). Faves are Blank Space, Style, Out of the Woods, I Wish You Would Come Back, This Love, You Are In Love and Clean.
9. Lover. I don't dislike it, but it just feels messy and it has a lot of skips imo (because they just don't really fit with the theme of the album or it's a bit cringy but not in a good way). Favorites are Cruel Summer, Lover, Cornelia Street, The Archer and Afterglow.

Excited for any superhero projects?
Hi Anon! I am, yes. Off the top of my head, in terms of things coming out in the future, I’m very much looking forward to the Thunderbolts movie. And you have good timing because I was just thinking about the Thunderbolts movie yesterday. What If? season 2 looks like it could be very fun, and I’m tentatively looking forward to Avengers 5 and 6. Depending on if they treat the characters well of course- I can’t take another mess like Endgame. Will fully admit that if they let me see Natasha, Wanda (main Wanda, none of this rumored multiverse nonsense), Pietro (ditto), Tony, Steve (an actual in-character version please), and/or Loki again, bring Jane back as a Valkyrie, or write Thor well I might be willing to forgive a lot though.
I’m also pretty excited for Armor Wars since I love Rhodey, though admittedly that excitement took a bit of a hit when I saw the relevant Secret Invasion spoilers. Blade as a character isn’t really my jam, but I am looking forward to seeing Dane Whitman again in that movie, especially as Black Knight, so I’m gonna list that too. And I’m very curious about the Agatha tv show rumors I’ve heard and if we might be getting Billy, potentially with Teddy, and if Wanda might be back.
…Nearly forgot Cap 4! Looking forward to that, with a few caveats. Those caveats being I need them to not villainize Sharon and take back the Power Broker thing, and I… truly have no idea how to feel about Sabra, given current events. I was excited for her inclusion, if dreading the discourse, now I don’t know how to feel about it because the likelihood of her inclusion being tone-deaf is even higher, and said discourse is going to be 100 times worse.
I also still have to watch the Loki finale episode and The Marvels. Very much looking forward to The Marvels; I have mixed feelings on the Loki finale since I’ve gotten a little spoiled for it, but I want to see how it ends just the same.
I’m super behind on Marvel movies, I kind of lost steam after Multiverse of Madness and haven’t seen the last 4 or 5 movies. Of those, I’m most looking forward to watching Wakanda Forever. (That would’ve been Love and Thunder because I adore both Jane and Thor but uh, 😬 I’ve heard about it and I had no faith in Taika Waititi to begin with, so…) After WF I think I’m most looking forward to watching GOTG 3 even though I’m fully aware I’m probably gonna cry my eyes out. Feeling a bit meh on Quantumania sadly, despite loving Cassie Lang in comics, based on what friends who’ve seen it have said, and fully expecting to have to grin and bear it through Love and Thunder.
In terms of unconfirmed projects, I need Eternals 2 yesterday. Also a Shang-Chi sequel and a second season of Moon Knight. The rumored Vision Quest show could be very good or alternately very bad, but I love Vision and he deserves a starring role, so I’m crossing my fingers it happens and isn’t just a retread of Tom King’s Vision because that comic was incredibly depressing. (Adore Viv Vision though, and would love a proper robotic Sparky the dog!) I also saw a rumor a bit ago that we might get a Clea backstory show, which I would be incredibly down for since comics Clea is one of my favorite underused characters, and has a really coolbackstory with a lot of potential for an interesting story. And I love the Young Avengers, so if we get to see them as an official team in the future I’ll be hyped for that.
For non-MCU things, I’m vaguely looking forward to Deadpool 3 despite not being a mutants/X-Men enthusiast because a. Deadpool is just fun, b. the Taylor Swift Dazzler rumors. For DC, The Superman: Legacy casting has me really really excited. I love Superman and it seems like we might actually get a good take on him this time! In terms of things farther down the DC pipeline, I’m a big Supergirl fan so naturally I’m hyped for the planned Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie, despite being halfway through that comic and still unsure if I like or not. And I love Damian Wayne so cautiously excited for the rumored Batman movie featuring Bruce and Dami.

Hi!! I know it's been a few days but how was the movie and crowd for you? What did you think? I hope you had so much fun! I saw your outfit in the pic you posted and it looked cute. How was it seeing the second time compared to the first? Did people like your bracelets? I really admire your craftiness and creativity cuz that is so not me but I wish I could be and I'm not that good at journaling either. But I agree it would probably be a good way to meet people. That's so nice and thoughtful to make some for your friends in other countries. I forgot to ask you how your last concert was..to see Renee Rapp so how was it? Her album is on my list and also am planning to listen to Holly Humberstone's album sometime this week. What do you think of her being in the Mean Girls movie or the movie in general? The musical is okay to me but the movie is just so iconic.
Those are a lot of my favorites too! Specifically Mirrorball, Cardigan, Daylight, You're on your own kid, Mastermind and Nothing New and Forever Winter! There wasn't really a crowd at my show..and probably less than 10 people..there was us and another group and maybe two more people and we all sat different spots in the theater, and we had our own space..so it was like watching it at home in a way lol which is fine. I already experienced the crowd at the actual show. What were your favorite parts of the movie?
I just told her that you love Taylor and theater/Broadway and you were named after Cosette. I hope so too..I will update you if or when we end up going. Ya that's what I thought about Cancers..I don't really know much about what moon signs actually mean so maybe I'll look more into it. I'm not a huge birthday person either and maybe it's cuz I'm a twin but I've always liked sharing my birthday. We usually make M&M and chocolate chip cookies.
That's so cool and must have been a great experience! I've never met an online friend before and have a hard time making actual online friends. I mostly just send anons to people but don't usually share things about myself online or have someone call me a specific anon or anything so it's sweet that you did. I only have a short list of places I wanna travel to and I haven't been a lot of places so I don't have much to add.
Okay I'll keep that in mind. The only thing I know about it is was the so haunt me then quote which intrigued me and the Kate Bush song lol. I did start reading Little Women at one point but then I just watched the movie lol. I am also just not very good with classics in general though. I wanna try finishing my other book this week if I can so next week works for me and I'll try to keep up as much as I can. I hope you have a wonderful week!!!
hi hi! i really loved it! i saw it on friday with one of my best friends and it was really fun — i was able to trade some bracelets in the parking lot / by concessions / inside, and the vibes were really chill! there were a few people singing and dancing but the way our cinemas are sloped/tiered meant it didn't block people's views (i was also in the back row)! no one really did the chants though, which i was surprised by? and then on sunday i went with my mom and i didn't really trade bracelets ( gave a bunch to the cinemark employees though! ) because the vibes were ... different! but people on sunday were a lot more ... enthusiastic! all the chants, dancing, etc! my mom had fun though; she turned to me as we were leaving and asked if i'd want to go see the movie again with her which was really cute 🥺! people were really nice about my bracelets; a girl i traded with on friday told me later that evening that my bracelet was her favorite one she got that night and it made my day! the renee rapp show was fine — i was really on the fence on if i still wanted to go, honestly, but am glad i went ultimately! i didn't love her album as much as i did her EP, and i think that she's so so talented vocally but the way her music is produced doesn't always let her vocals shine, if that makes sense? a lot of people near me were a little ... 😵‍💫 though in terms of concert etiquette! i hope you like holly's album; i've been listening to that a lot since it came out (and finally got around to listening to the new boygenius last night). the mean girls musical is fun; i've never seen it live (i had tickets to see taylor louderman's second to last show but was ... hungover ... and ended up selling my ticket to a friend haha) but i think it could've been better/stronger! i was really excited for it, because i love what they did with legally blonde but was disappointed with some of the score for mean girls. a small part of me was hoping that sabrina would reprise her role as cady, because i really like what i heard of her cady, and was sad her time as cady got cut short!
wow!! that's not a lot of people! it was pretty packed at both showings, but i actually got tickets to see it on 10/27 with my mom again, and so far, it's just us and one other person in that cinema! i really liked this movie (incredibly salty about things that got cut though), but i got a little motion sick at some of the shots. but i get motion sick easily, so that's more on me haha! i got really really sad/emotional during specific scenes and was thinking a lot about seeing it in person and the memories i made during my shows. i think my favorite parts were really just seeing how my mom and my best friend reacted to different things (i made my mom watch the entire thing on youtube a few months ago & it was my best friend's first time watching it)! i think my favorite eras sets are still fearless, speak now and folklore though, but they're all just so good! what about you?
that sounds so fun! do you bake a lot? i used to really like baking but haven't baked as much lately (but i do love baking cakes and oatmeal raisin cookies)!
i have met quite a few online friends — and have been incredibly lucky to do so! actually, three of the girlies i saw eras with were online friends who are super dear to my heart!! and we're online friends 🥰 ! we've been online friends before i knew your name!! i always love chatting with you; i think our back and forth long ask/answer conversations are so fun!
i read the appeal and the twyford code yesterday (both by janice hallett) and they were very very clever! i've got a busy week ahead, but am hoping to finish listening to curious tides on audiobook, and maybe some other books i'm in the middle of, and then am excited for our upcoming buddy read!!! hope you're having a good tuesday & a good week!

Songs of the Summer, 2023: #11
[intro & rules]
There It Goes by Maisie Peters (June 23, 2023)
i’m at the library again.  i keep being here—sue me.  i love it and i know exactly why—  (can’t explain why i love you, but the library? well, that’s easy.) you see, it’s not-hospital today, and it was not-hospital a year ago,  and my mom and my doctor and i think that’s wonderful.  also, i like the windows here,  and the little green-apple-round seats where i would bring my lunch  every day  forever and ever… or at least for tomorrow.  today, i think i’ll just head home.  i pack up, take inventory of my bag, and wonder if i’ll always want to keep sticky notes around,  buried in the bottom of its front pocket.
--
“There It Goes” truly found me at the perfect time. As explanation for its place on my list, I offer this story: I listened to “There It Goes” for the first time while walking through my old neighborhood at sunset. This neighborhood is the place I hold the most memories of; my old house saw me start my first journal, get my first depression diagnosis, meet my best friends. I don’t live there anymore, but going back to walk in the area, which I occasionally have reason to do, is a bit of an earth-shaking experience (think: MUNA’s “Around U”). So imagine what it feels like to run into a song like “There It Goes” for the first time, to be stunned by a line like the way I loved you, I will not be embarrassed of that, in a place like that, at a time when the world is bathed in golden light and the sky painted with surreal, electric pinks. Fucking transcendent.
But "There It Goes" is a standout all on its own, too. I was motivated to listen to it in the first place because this post described it as “perfect closure”, and they couldn’t be more right. The lyrics are cathartic, and Maisie Peters performs them so earnestly, with so much tenderness, that I feel her hope, too (the way she sings I sleep through the night breaks my heart and puts it back together again in just a few seconds). I brought it up a little bit in my “History of Man” review, but I want to spend some time just talking about what an engaging performer Peters is, just through vocals alone, and how well her voice and her lyrics blend (as the first post I linked puts it, "her lyrics are so perfectly her"). So much emotion is stored in just the way she sounds, the way she uses the wispiness of her voice, and her performance in this song is particularly impactful. The feelings of "There It Goes" remind me of some of my favorite Taylor Swift songs—her soft, lullaby-ish ones like “Afterglow”, “The Archer”, “Daylight”, “Labyrinth”, and “This Love”—so I would definitely recommend checking this one out if you're a fan of any of those :)
I have one qualm with this song, though: “There It Goes” is produced like a much cheesier, much less poignant, ballad than it really is. It’s fine—it’s listenable and still worth returning to, especially the intro + the cool, hollow-sounding percussion—but lyrics & a performance this good deserved much better production, something less jumbled and chaotic (especially in the chorus). For all the songs higher than this one on my list, though, maybe because I listened to them more or (probably) because I think their production is better, “There It Goes” is really how I’d like to remember the summer of 2023—it communicates this belief in the goodness of life and existence and having a future that I’d like to think of, and that I’d like to to feel, too, when I look back on those months. And, if my life ever flashes before my eyes one day, I’d like to look back and hear this song, the soundtrack of long walks and breathtaking sunsets and feeling, as Maisie Peters put it, so far from the cliffs.

songs i’d sell my soul to hear as a surprise song at eras
i’m making this before the second vegas show so if any of these end up being a surprise song at another show that's why
(3/26 edit: 2 of these were surprise songs last night i’m gonna cross them off as they go. it'll be fun)
i have the 5/14 mothers day show so it's pretty much a guarantee that one of them will be the best day, and it’s also at lincoln financial field, so if she does gold rush as a surprise song, it’ll probably be at one of the philly shows because of the eagles t-shirt line
debut:
a place in this world
the outside
should’ve said no
mary’s song (oh my my my)
our song (my sister and i both really wanted this but apparently she did it last night 😔)
*i’m only me when i’m with you* this is my favorite song off of debut i would actually cry if she plays it. she probably won’t, no one ever talks about it, but still
picture to burn would be fun too but if she does that she’d get a crowd full of swiftness screaming the homophobic version so i don’t think it’s likely
fearless:
hey stephen
white horse (this was my favorite song from fearless when i was in middle school. no i was not ok)
tell me why
*the way i loved you* again, favorite song off the album
forever and always
like i mentioned before, she’s probably gonna do the best day at my show, and i will be happy with that. can’t really relate to it (#mommyissues) but it’s a good song
change
mr perfectly fine
speak now:
sparks fly
speak now
mean
the story of us
haunted (my sister’s really hoping for this one)
*long live*

Every Emma Woodhouse Ranked and Rated
With all my reviews of all the period-set adaptations now finished, I'm beginning my series in which I rate and rank each interpretation of all the principle characters, starting with our girl Emma!
Now I wanna be clear--I am not rating the actresses that played Emma. I am rating how the character was handled in general in each adaptation. The actresses are a factor, but they're not the sole factor, since the writer and director have as much, if not more, to do with how the character ends up in the finished product. So without futher ado, let's rank...
“Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich, with a comfortable home and happy disposition, seemed to unite some of the best blessings of existence; and had lived nearly twenty-one years in the world with very little to distress or vex her….
“The real evils indeed of Emma’s situation were the power of having rather too much of her own way, and a disposition to think a little too well of herself; these were the disadvantages that threatened alloy to her many enjoyments.”
NUMBER 5: 1972
Tumblr media
Portrayed by: Doran Godwin
Age at time of filming: 28
Clocking in as the oldest actress to play Austen’s famously TWENTY-ONE year old heroine (at the ripe age of 28), Doran Godwin also snags the coveted position as inhabiting the worst portrayal of the character (in my personal estimation) to date.
Just about everything about this interpretation of Emma Woodhouse is bad, from her seemingly automated recital of her lines to her all-too-intense, wide-eyed, hypnotic stare. The 1972 portrayal of Emma highlights all the character’s worst qualities while also failing to convincingly communicate her good qualities, such as her caring nature. The script is equally to blame for the awfulness of this interpretation, adding unnecessarily cruel and condescending lines, including one where she negs Harriet for being sad after Elton’s marriage, and then forces Harriet to come with her to meet the new Mrs. Elton, when Emma in the book did her best to shield Harriet from exactly that kind of situation.
Godwin couldn’t pass for 21 if her life had depended on it, and the worst part is that the script actually states Emma’s age, so she seems like a bit of a crazy spinster, preying on the naïve Harriet. Whether it’s her intent to bathe in Harriet’s blood to keep herself young, or to bake her into a pie is up for debate.
Rating: 1/5 Half-finished portraits
NUMBER 4: 2020
Tumblr media
Portrayed by: Anya Taylor Joy
Age at time of filming: 23
I thought long and hard about this. This movie is a modern period drama phenomenon. It’s gotten so many people into Jane Austen and satisfied long-time Austen fans by giving them an interpretation they never dared hope to see. It’s a gorgeous film.
But I don’t like this interpretation of Emma Woodhouse. Though Anya Taylor Joy is one of the youngest actresses to play Emma (only two years older than the character) she’s played with a careful stiffness that perhaps shows us a glimpse of the Lady Catherine she might turn into without swift intervention. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, and this isn’t a commentary on Anya Taylor Joy either—her appearance or her acting ability—but I just don’t like her as Emma. And she’s not the sole problem, she turns in a solid performance, she’s a good actress, but something about this characterization is just off-color to me. Anya Taylor Joy plays a great mean-girl; but I think that’s one of the reasons why they thought she’d be a good choice for this role, and it’s one of the prime reasons I don’t think she wasright for it. Emma is a deeply flawed character and, of course, the biggest turning point in her story comes as a result of a thoughtlessly mean remark to someone who has only ever shown her deference, hospitality and gratitude.
All that said, Emma is not, at her core, a cruel person. Emma has gone all her life thinking condescending things about Miss Bates but it’s only when Frank comes along and validates her less kind commentaries that she actually starts to voice them in search of validation from a peer.
The problem with this in the context of 2020’s Emma Woodhouse is that Frank hardly gets a look-in in this adaptation. Emma’s relationship with him is severely underdeveloped and the actors don’t have enough chemistry to pull it off in the limited time they’re given. The result is that Emma appears to cross a line just to cross it, and it pushes Emma’s character from thoughtless to out-and-out frigid.
Still better than Doran Godwin, since she's identifiably human.
Rating: 2 1/2 / 5 Half-finished portraits
NUMBER 3: 1996 (MIRAMAX)
Tumblr media
Portrayed by: Gwyneth Paltrow
Age at time of filming: 24
Despite the fact that Gwyneth Paltrow was an appalling casing choice for Emma Woodhouse (I will be forever salty that they passed over Joely Richardson), and I know there are some who will think me, at best, crazy (sacrilegious, at worst) for ranking 1996’s interpretation of Emma higher than 2020, I actually feel that solidly in the middle is right where this version of the character belongs.
There’s so much wrong with this Emma: she swings from mature to bizarrely infantile at the drop of a hat, much of her script is genuinely tragic, Gwyneth can’t convincingly portray Emma's social naiveté, her accent is overwhelmingly nasal and impossible to listen to, just for starters.
And yet… I don’t hate her. I don’t like her particularly either, but even though much of the dialogue re-working butchered Austen’s prose, there are a lot of things McGrath seems to have gotten right about Emma’s character. Her relationship with Knightley feels comfortable and playful, and, while Emma of the book probably doesn’t really care for Harriet Smith in the spirit of true bosom friendship, I believe she does care about her and wishes to spare her (further) pain. She shows exasperation with Harriet while still being patient with her, which is very much in the spirit of the book. Her concern for Harriet at the ball feels real, and her contrition at Box Hill following Knightley’s rebuke, while not profound, at least feels like contrition and not self-pity.
Perhaps, given the soft-take that the Miramax version is, it shouldn’t be surprising that the biggest faults in characterization rest on awkward writing and the biggest triumphs highlight Emma’s better side. It’s not a very in-depth take on the character, but it at least, is an adequate one.
Rating: 3/5 Half-finished portraits
NUMBER 2: 1996/97 (ITV)
Tumblr media
Portrayed by: Kate Beckinsale
Age at time of filming: 23
Those who’ve read my reviews of each adaptation of Emma might be surprised to see ITV’s portrayal of the title character sitting so high on my list. To be frank, it’s a distant second, and she may have stolen the number two spot only because she’s played by Kate Beckinsale and not Gwyneth Paltrow.
In truth, I see a lot of parallels between 1997’s Emma and 2020’s. Both actresses were 23 (or thereabouts) when they played the role, both have extremely childish moments, and both crumple down and burst into tears that don’t feel entirely genuine after Box Hill.
So why is 1997 on the good side of the number 3 spot and 2020 isn’t? I’m not precisely sure. I think it may be because Andrew Davies (and/or Diarmuid Lawrence) at least understood the scale of Emma Woodhouse’s wealth and status. This Emma feels sufficiently self-important, a bit haughty, sure—but she’s also believably naïve. You feel her isolation, you understand her caring relationship with her father, and she’s not as patently rude to Robert Martin compared to the 2020 version (she at least acknowledges his presence when he meets Emma and Harriet in the lane).
Grudging though this favorable placement may be, I can at least acknowledge that Emma herself is the least of my problems with this version, and even though Beckinsale’s acting is a bit sketchy at certain points, she also has some truly great moments, especially her interaction with Robert Martin at the end of the film. This portrayal is consistent, and Emma’s better qualities aren’t overpowered by her negative ones.
Rating: 4/5 Half-finished portraits
Number 1: 2009
Tumblr media
Portrayed by: Romola Garai
Age at time of filming: 26
And in a shocking twist—I’m kidding this is neither shocking nor unexpected to anyone who knows me or has read my blog/reviews of the Emma adaptations. Am I totally biased? Probably. I don’t care, this is a completely subjective list. Here, finally—my first and true love as Emma Woodhouse—is Romola Garai. I suppose it’s also not surprising that the first actress I ever saw in the role would still be my favorite a decade on. I just love everything about this interpretation of the character. She rides the very difficult line of being bright, caring and intelligent, while also being completely naïve and lacking in social savvy (in her own age-group at least), coddled, and painfully sure of her own self-importance.
Even though Garai was 25 or 26 at the time (far too old for the character—almost as old as Doran Godwin) her energy and charisma are enough that she’s able to carry it off convincingly. Everything about this Emma screams youth, and when Emma’s child-like social ignorance is her most prominent characteristic, it feels authentic and natural. Equally authentic are her emotions—her love for her family, her dynamic with Knightley, he exasperation, patience, and concern with Harriet. Most of all though, this Emma seems to experience the most maturation in the last quarter of the story. Box Hill really feels like a turning point—not just a chastened young woman, but a true coming-of-age moment. Emma faces a reckoning here that begins a chain reaction culminating in her realization of her feelings for Knightley, and everything from the writing to Garai’s performance conveys the magnitude of this shift in Emma’s life.
This version of the character seems the most… complete to me. Somehow, between Romola Garai’s vibrancy, Sandy Welch’s screenplay and Jim O’Hanlon’s direction, this interpretation takes an extremely divisive character and helps the viewer understand just why everyone in Highbury loves Emma Woodhouse.
Rating: 5/5 Half-finished portraits

Hello, Phoebe. I’m back :)
How are you doing? Just put whatever you feel like here! This ask is the Phoebe Show; make it yours!
Lyssa, it is always a pleasure to see you in my notifs, but especially in my ask box! Thank you for filling it with kind words, awesome prompts, and fun questions for me to play around with.
This blog is the closest I imagine I'll ever come to having the Phoebe Delia Show, and since you have given me free rein with this ask, I shall endeavor to make it count.
I've gotten some incredible asks about my interests, but I'm going to answer a question that has been asked by exactly no one and rank Taylor Swift's albums.
This will be in order of my favorites; this isn't necessarily a reflection of what I think the rank would be in terms of objective quality; instead, this is based on my own personal enjoyment of the albums.
As always, I will provide a little explanation as to my reasoning, because I am nothing if not indulgent.
I actually really surprised myself with this ranking; as I looked through the albums I evaluated each by counting the number of songs I liked off of each one, and the ranking I thought I had has now changed. (I will explain in my comments!).
So! With that said. The Phoebe Delia Show Presents: Ranking Taylor Swift Albums.
1. Speak Now--To me, there is only one skip on this entire album; it is bop after bop. (If you're wondering, I think "Innocent" is the skip). Every song is just fun! I should also point out that this is also my favorite in part because Taylor said it was inspired by theater/Broadway.
2. 1989--I'm gonna be honest and say that I'm ashamed to have sort of slept on this album for so long. Don't get me wrong--I listened to and enjoyed it a lot when it came out, but I always sort of automatically pushed it further down on my list in favor of my 3rd choice because I liked the songs on my 3rd choice more. But now that I'm older and my music taste has somewhat evolved, I think I can say that 1989 is my 2nd favorite. There are truly no skips on this album. Yes, I know I said SN has a skip, but that album holds a special place in my heart so it gets number 1. I was thinking it over today, and while Taylor has always been amazing, I think this is the album that launched her into superstardom. We, her fans, knew she could do anything, but she still shocked us all by making the transition to an entirely pop album. Remember the "Blank Space" and "Bad Blood" music videos? I still think those are two fo my favorite of her mvs, though LWYMMD is a close second.
3. Red--Oh, my beloved. This album is wonderful. I have a lot of memories associated with this one, particularly watching the WANGBT music video and the IKYWT parody with the fucking goat that makes me laugh so hard even to this day. I am SO pumped for TV in November!! And while, yes, "All Too Well" is my favorite song on the album (and my fave TS song overall), "Holy Ground" is slept on and amazing.
4. folklore--This album is probably the most meaningful to me of them all just because of when it came out. We as an entire global community were struggling, and I know I had immense privilege to have been healthy and safe during that time. Still, like everyone else, I was depressed, lonely, and felt trapped inside my home and inside my mind. I will never forget listening to this album in my room and gasping when I heard TIMT. Not long after this album came out, I also lost my family dog, and this album was essential in helping me grieve. This album saved my sanity and gave me a cathartic outlet. I will be forever grateful to Taylor for writing it.
5. Reputation--This is another one for which I have a lot of memories. I will never forget when the LWYMMD music video came out and the world lost its entire mind. Taylor said there are still easter eggs we missed and I want someone to find them please and thank you. There are a few songs on this album that I'm not obsessed with, but the storytelling is so cohesive and creative. On the surface, one might think Taylor was being petty or whiny, but if you look closer--and remember the utter hell she was going through at the time--I think there are deeper meanings than her just getting back at Kim and Kanye.
6. Fearless--Oh, this album. It has some of her most iconic songs: YBWM, "White Horse," "Love Story"," "Forever and Always," etc. I truly wish I could tie this one with Rep, but I think Rep edges this one out *just* barely with songwriting/lyrical quality. I also don't know if I'll ever fully get over the fact that she kept "Mr. Perfectly Fine" from us for so long, but I suppose I can consider the 10 min "All Too Well" on Red TV to be proper repayment. ;)
7. evermore--I could not believe my eyes when she announced this album. How can this woman write this fast and this well!! I will never forget listening to "champagne problems," "no body, no crime," and "tolerate it" in particular. I ranked this after reputation just bc I think I enjoy listening to Rep more, but some of the songwriting on this album is *chefs kiss.*
8. Lover--I know, I know, I'm sorry. I don't want to put this one so low on the list but I just kind of can't put it any higher? I really love some of the songs on this album, but SYGB is too sad for me, "London Boy" kinda annoys me I'm sorry, and I just never really got into INTHAF or "Afterglow." But, that said, every other song on the album is a bop, even ME!, although I listen to the live version over the studio recording. It's a great album though.
9. Taylor Swift (Debut album)--I feel a little bad ranking this so low but I cannot honestly tell you that this album is better than her others, and something has to be last on the list. There are also some great, classic songs on this album. So, instead of being critical, I'm instead going to say that I remember vividly seeing a snippet of "Teardrops On My Guitar" advertised on Disney Channel for Radio Disney. It makes me smile to think of how far she's come since then.
And that concludes this episode of The Phoebe Delia Show! Tune in next time where I post some other self-indulgent opinion about one of my interests and hope it reaches people who care to read it :)
Send me an ask about Harry Potter, broadway/musicals, The West Wing, and/or Taylor Swift! Or just about life in general :).
Also, I have a playlist of my 99 most listened-to songs of the year so far. Pick a number 1--99 and send me an ask and I'll write you a fic based on it!

reading update
[prev]
I put this off by a day so I could include another book on the "finished" list, and oh my GOD it was so good and I'm so excited to gush about it, so let's gooooo:
what have I been reading?
Starsoul (C.L. Polk) - what a DELIGHTFUL end to a series!! like Witchmark and Stormsong, it filled me with warm fuzzy feelings AND socialist rage! and I'm only a little miffed that [spoilers] we never got to see a certain promised wedding. C.L. Polk is tremendous, go read all their shit immediately.
The Body Is Not An Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love [Second Edition] (Sonya Renee Taylor) - glad I read it! been on the list for a LONG time! do not actually remember a TON of things about it now that it's been a few weeks! but I'm sure it's doing a lot of really positive work for a lot of people, yeehaw!
Kink (edited by R.O. Kwon and Garth Greenwell) - okay, so. I made a point of reading this pretty quickly after it came out because so many people were harassing Kwon and Greenwell about it on twitter and I HAD to know what the hype was about, and it's... an impeccably well-curated collection of short stories, I'll give it that. the tone is pretty dang consistent throughout, and there are some real standouts - Brandon Taylor and Vanessa Clark's contributions come to mind. overall, though? man, these are some stories about sex that manage to never actually get very sexy. I don't want your literary prose, man, I want to intellectually nut.
Revolting Prostitutes: The Fight for Sex Workers' Rights (Molly Smith and Juno Mac) - this is hands down one of my FAVORITE books I've read this year. absolutely rock solid work, a great breakdown of various models of criminalization and legalization of sex work around the world and how it impacts the workers - written by actual sex workers. I feel like I really LEARNED reading this book, and I'm delighted. if you only read one nonfiction book this year make it this one.
Skin Folk (Nalo Hopkinson) - this collection didn't quite capture the delight I felt reading Falling In Love With Hominids, but the bright spots are absolutely radiant. special mention goes to "Fisherman," which offered up more tasteful smut in a single short story than the entirety of Kink.
The City of Brass (S.A. Chakraborty) - oh holy shit holy fuck you guys this was SO FUN, I love big sweeping fantasies so much!! I'm so excited to read the sequels!! Nahri and Ali are both delightful, the world is DECADENT, and the political intrigue is sumptuous. this is exactly the kind of shit I want in a doorstopper fantasy. can't believe Nahri and Dara managed to over 500 pages without boning but there's always hope for the sequel.
what am I reading now?
Book of Hours (Kevin Young) - okay, listen, we've established that I'm not good at reading poetry. but this one has a narrative so clear and coherent that even a dummy like me can pick up on it, and that's helping a lot!
what did I grab from the library to read while I hang out with my mom for two weeks?
Red at the Bone (Jacqueline Woodson) - Woodson is one of my favorite children's/middle readers authors in the entire world, and I'm super jazzed to read more of her adult fiction!
Children of Vengeance and Virtue (Tomi Adeyemi) - yes it's been more than two years since I read Children of Blood and Bone but I'm sure that it'll be fine!
Living a Feminist Life (Sara Ahmed) - this is another one that's been on my to-read list FOREVER, largely because of Ahmed's Feminist Killjoy work. can't go home without something academic to read so I can pretend my brain isn't in full vacation rot, etc.

Could you do a few headcanons about Hawks in heat? Like you know how certain species do that? Tbh idk if birds do but if you could do something like that it’d be great!
word count: 1041
key: ☆,♤
a/n: so i did a little bit of extra research for this ask and i think that i should cite my sources? anyways, enjoy your headcanons for this horny bird!
Tumblr media
bio: our bird is in heat
Tumblr media
➯ Strap yourself in for a wild ride because, for the very, very long month of May, the only thought on this man's bird brain is *ahem* breeding the fuck out of you and other things, of course.
Protecting/Claiming His Territory
➯ When the two of you go out in public while he's going through his 'heat,' he will be super protective. You think that those shorts look nice on you, well Keigo thinks they show off too much of your ass (which to be fair, does belong to him). If he had a say in the way you dress, you'd be covered head to toe, like a catholic nun.
➯ When the two of you are walking around town, you're always by Keigo's side, and his wing halfway wrapped around you, protecting you from any potential threats and prying eyes. You would not want to be the guy that Keigo catches staring at you from across the coffee shop because he is for sure going to get jumped in the alleyway behind the shop.
➯ Throughout his period of 'heat,' Keigo will always insist that you smell like him so that the potential 'threats' will know who his angel belongs to. He'll ask that you wear his shirts or hoodies everywhere. You love wearing Keigo's clothes, but you have your own that you enjoy wearing, so you politely decline...the first time. Then the second time. By the tenth, you're having a screaming match throwing his clothes out from your closet and off the balcony. So when that doesn't work as a last-ditch effort, Keigo'll start spraying you with his cologne while you're asleep.
➯ Simple makeout sessions quickly turn into marking fests, leaving hickeys all over your neck in places where you cannot hide them. And sex, phshh - black and blue bruises, wounds that'll eventually turn into scars, and huge welts everywhere. You won't be able to leave the house without looking like you went head to toe with an MMA fighter.
➯ Just remember that you are Keigo's and no one else's, and you should be fine. But if you do forget, there will be hell to pay.
Courtship
➯ Daily flights become a regular thing. It's sweet, really, just the two of you and the warm colors of the sunset. It's the best thing to come out of this whole 'in heat' situation. Every once in a while, Keigo will set up a picnic atop your favorite building in Japan, and the two of you will spend the night just laughing, chatting, and making googly eyes at each other.
➯ Karaoke nights! Even though he's god, awful Keigo likes to sing with/to you, anything from rapping (mumbling) Drake songs to screeching Taylor Swift at the top of his lungs. He might even break out some of his signature Keigo dance moves and really set the party off!
➯ Blanket forts! It's always fun building forts with you and watching movies, talking, and messing around with you (and other things…). You could spend an eternity with him just talking and staring into his eyes, but usually, you have to spend half of the night rebuilding the forts because Keigo's wings never fail to knock the fort down.
➯ You'll find him wanting to take care of you, more so than usual, and doing the most simple things.
➯ Whenever you say, you're going to hop in the shower Keigo's right there with you, bottle of shampoo, and loofa in hand. He'll wash your hair for you, rinse you off, and do all the things you are perfectly capable of doing yourself.
➯ If you had a bad day at work, he's trying his best to make up for it, listening to you vent while working his magic with his special back and foot rubs.
➯ Cuddles forever include Keigo running his fingers through your hair, brushing the tangles and knots out, making sure his angel is looking 100% presentable.
➯ Every morning he'll cook breakfast for the two of you and leave your plate in the microwave and leave a sticky note on the glass, reminding you how much he loves you before he's off for work.
➯ Throughout May, Keigo's wings are always in a constant state of flux. He doesn't even realize he's doing it, and honestly, it's the cutest thing ever the way that he is constantly 'protecting his angel from the outside world' as he likes to say. Sometimes when he tries to walk through the doorway to his bedroom, his wings will get cough on either side, and he'll fall on his ass.
Mating
➯ Sex is fucking FEARL. Slow and sensual had been fucking thrown out the window, the only thing left is Keigo's intent to fill you to the very brim with his cum with the hopes of getting you pregnant.
➯ Positions you can look forward to being forced into include mating press. That's it. The mating press is the optimal position for pregnancy, and that is Keigo's only goal right now.
➯ I hope that you don't think three rounds enough to satisfy Keigo's needs. This man will break you. He doesn't care how many times you've already orgasmed, and he is not stopping until you're filled with his seed.
➯ Don't even think twice about wasting any. This is something Keigo will be super sadistic with, pinching your clit, knowing that your walls will involuntarily clench around nothing, forcing his cum out and effectively ruining his masterpiece. Now he has to start all over again to fix your mistake.
➯ The aftercare you're so accustomed to will surely falter because fucking you into oblivion even with his level of stamina is pretty tiring. Either which way you always, always fall asleep your head on his chest and him lying on his back, his wings'll cramp up in the morning, but it's always worth it for this moment spent between the two of you right before you fall asleep in his arms.

Papa Louie Scarlett HCs
-Rosabella Ocampo is a 23 year old singer/songwriter and graduate school student who lives with her fiancé, Rudy, in a Powder Point condo. She is widely known by her legal/stage name, Scarlett Heart and is the lead singer/songwriter of Scarlett and the Shakers. While punk ska and playing gigs with her friends are her true passion, Scarlett plans to become a game theory professor in the future. She can mostly be seen writing lyrics for a new song, riding roller coasters with Rudy, climbing trees with Clover, and just vibing with Marty.
-Scarlett is rather bold and seductive, often playfully flirting with others or making jokes about inappropriate topics. I stole this from Rouge, thanks SnapCube fandub for revitalizing my love for Sonic. Alongside her flirtatiousness is her intelligence and desire to succeed, using rules and lessons that she learned from various games to apply to her daily life. Thanks to her love of poker and mahjong, Scarlett has grown to be very analytical and sly in her motives. Out of the shakers, she is undoubtedly the big sister friend as she’s kind of a bad influence on the rest of them and is always subjected to scoldings by mom friend, Janana.
-Rudy calls her “Princesa” because of her Cinderella-like backstory. Her mother was a very kind woman and Scarlett lived happily with her and her father. Her mother died in a roadside construction accident when Scarlett was only 9, leaving Scarlett heartbroken. Her father then married a woman named Moira with two sons, Graham and David, who was emotionally abusive towards Scarlett until she moved out at age 16. Scarlett’s relationship with her dad deteriorated over time and she’s basically disowned them since. She finds solace in Marty and Clover’s parents, who think of Rudy and Scarlett as their own. She also got along with the other Frostfield residents and helped Willow get back into hockey after her infamous car accident (the first one).
-Stan Twitter often makes memes of her because she’s so iconic and quotable. One of her most iconic moments was when she screamed “I wrote this next one about my bitch ass stepmom. Moira, if you’re listening, your hair is limp and you fucking suck!” at the VMAs.
-Music was her escape as a child, hence why she learned to sing and play multiple instruments. However, her stepmother made her play the violin in the school orchestra as opposed to being allowed in a punk rock band. Even though she was concertmaster and first chair, she hated life so badly. Scarlett can play the guitar, bass guitar, violin, cello, drums, the trumpet, the saxophone, the bassoon, the piano, the xylophone, the harp, the flute, the recorder, the French horn, the clarinet, i didn’t even list all of them and I’m tired already. When one of the other shakers has lead vocals on a song, she’ll take over playing their instrument.
-Scarlett met Rudy during their shared freshman year of high school. Hazelnut High’s orchestra department had its annual field trip to Powder Point (based off my actual orchestra field trip!). Scarlett decided to sneak away from her snobby classmates and teachers and have the time to herself. On one particularly large roller coaster, she sat next to a boy with a Mohawk who told her that since he was a Powder Point native, he could more than handle it. He then proceeded to cry the entire time while holding her hand. They realized how much they had in common and kept in contact even after her trip was over. Their relationship is super lovey dovey, yet chill at the same time. Couple goals, but not on the level of Prudence x Cooper x Taylor.
-The shakers got together during the 23rd season of Flipline’s Got Talent. After the shocking elimination of Taylor Morales in the quarterfinals, the remaining acts were merged together. Scarlett and Rudy and Marty and Clover were two sets of pairs merged together. They all got along beforehand and loved Scarlett’s songwriting, so they all wrote an original song together for the finals. Even though they were fan favorites and had lots of support from the audience, Bill and Boopsy’s amazing ventriloquy act was what won the show, with the upset Shakers coming in second place. Afterwards, they were approached by Janana who offered to become their agent, and all they’ve known since was success. Fun fact: Rudy wouldnt accept Clover and Marty into their act unless they beat him and Scarlett at poker. They did.
-The shakers each can speak multiple languages, with Scarlett being able to speak fluent English and Tagalog, Tagalog being her native language (Filipino gang!). She can also speak some Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, Hindi, and Gaelic because she hangs around the other Shakers and Janana so much.
-All of the food, drinks, clothes, and personal belongings Scarlett loves are various shades of red. Cherries, longanisa, red wine, and candied strawberries are her favorite. Her entire wardrobe? Red. Her LED lights? Red. It honestly scares Rudy how red everything is.
-Her voice would either be Jessica Sanchez from American Idol or Gwen Stefani from the No Doubt era. She also covers a lot of No Doubt songs during their concerts. Speaking of covers, the shakers like to sing classic rock songs as well as modern day hits. Scarlett has the vocal range to do Ariana and Mariah Carey justice.
-Her and Marty are best friends. They’re both on the same wavelength and will most likely have the same reaction to memes, like word for word the same reaction. They usually have to get Rudy and Clover out of trouble most days. I love their chaotic, yet chill energy, like the types that just sit and observe and quietly make funny comments to each other.
-She determines whether she likes you or not based off of how good you are at mahjong or poker. If you suck enough to let her win, she’ll love you forever but if you match her in ability, she’ll respect you but kinda fear you as well. If you refuse to play altogether, she hates you. She’s a game theory student, so playing any board game with her is grounds for disaster because she’ll use her weird psychology and tricks to win all the time. Ironically, she sucks at video games. Even though she loves games of chance, she’s hugely against casinos and betting, instead trading small trinkets like food or makeup.
-At the Cheeseria, she set up a poker table, a mahjong table, and a pool table for the entertainment. They unfortunately had to get rid of the Uno table because somebody (ahem, Jojo) got a little too heated over a match with Papa and Wally. And by “got a little too heated”, I mean that Jojo literally got in a fist fight with Papa and lost.
-All she watches are telenovelas. Don’t ask about The Office or Game of Thrones, all she knows is stuff like Rubi and Maria la del Barrio.
-She doesn’t like musical theater except for Phantom of the Opera. She has taken a few roles as Kim in Miss Saigon, but secretly regrets it because musical theater is so much harder than just a regular concert. She still respects theater actors, but will never again sit through Anything Goes.
-She is the only one of the workers who has managed to successfully punch Guy Mortadello. Koilee and Rudy came close, but Scarlett landed an especially hard punch to his nose. Next to being engaged and forming Scarlett and the Shakers, she says it’s the third happiest day of her life. Now, Guy Mortadello is extremely scared of Scarlett and will cry if he sees her or hears her song on the radio (which is all the time).
-She has a tattoo of a heart of her hand along with a crown. On three of her fingers are a yellow Diamond, green clover, and blue spade.
-Scarlett is absolutely gorgeous and badass, I always kept rewinding Papas Cheeseria just to see her and Rudy in the opening because I had crushes on them both. Anyways, stan Scarlett for good grades (it’s not working though I’m still failing two classes)

folklore think piece
for a lower case album such as this, i will be writing a lowercase think piece on the subject. i will not explain why. you get it or you don’t.
the 1: i have never been in love or any type of romantic relationship that left me with lasting feelings of any kind. but, on my fourth listen through of this song today, what once was just a promising and fun intro to this peasant girl summer gut punch, brought me to actual tears as i sat on the toilet in my lime green childhood bathroom as if i were mourning the one that got away (another great song). however, i am an expert on being hung up on the past, the “what could have been”, and made up hypotheticals. this song also introduces the film motif seen a lot in this album. i think dating an actor has really gotten to her. anyway what a killer way to begin, top notch stuff. how can a song be so fun and so soul crushing at the same time?
cardigan: when did taylor wear black lipstick? this is important to me. an old cardigan is an inherently bisexual article of clothing. that is not an opinion. i read it somewhere today and i believe it. this is the tip of the queer-coding ice berg in folklore, never fear. another reference, “tried to change the ending / peter losing wendy”. this year i wrote a movie script where both peter and wendy were both gay. coincidence? probably. basically this one is classic taylor poetry on every level and it being one of a trio in a larger story makes it that much better. yet again, high school romance is not a universal experience (like for me for instance) but haunting my “what-ifs” is going to haunt me for a long time. and the thought of someone saying i was their favorite cardigan makes me want to scream into a pillow.
the last great american dynasty: my favorite ts songs have always been the ones with detailed characters and stories and this one introduces the trope of the “mad woman” who comes back later on as well a long with many fun character details. at first this song is just cheeky and cute, very visual, a fun world to jump into. but then this particular stretch of lines makes your heart drop into your chest and reminds you why taylor isn’t just always fun and always cute and always creative, she also holds the ability to nimbly sock you in the gut when you least expect: “fifty years is a long time / holiday house sat quietly on that beach / free of women with madness, their men and bad habits / and then it was bought by me.” my jaw is still on the floor. and i’ve never bought a house myself. but i’ve spent numerous christmases having a marvelous time ruining everything (so i’ve been told) so this song still applies to my life.
exile (ft. bon iver): i’m gonna be honest. for as long as i can remember i have strongly disliked bon iver and i never remembered why. it is a matter of principle at this point. i just don’t trust him. but then taylor announced she wrote a song with him which filled me with tremendous anxiety. but i can rest easy. much like “the last time” this song is a ts and male artist collaboration i can get behind. also the film motif again: the only time i’ve left a theatre when i didn’t like a movie was never because movie tickets are so expensive and if i’m shelling out 11 dollars to sit in a chair, i’m staying the whole time no matter how bad the ending. but i probably would have left my sister’s keeper if i had seen it before if i’m being honest. so i get it. thats why i read spoilers for everything i watch before watching it, because the anxiety of worrying about how it ends make me not enjoy it in the first place. the end of this song: the call and response felt… ethereal? i felt like i was watching a broadway musical from the splash zone seats, crying as i was spat on.
my tears ricochet: this song is what i picture stepping outside in the middle of the night when an inch or so of snow has just fallen and i can see the flakes fall in front of a street light sounds like. or the scorned secret ex lover throwing themselves onto the coffin demanding to know why they weren’t enough.   which is to say it feels like a sign from some sort of god. yet again, haunting is brought up, an overt reference to the fact that this album will live in my brain rent free for eternity. for some reason this song reminds me of the relationship between hamilton and burr when burr kills hamilton. that could be because i just watched the disney+ recording last week. one lives, one dies, but neither survive, both pay for it. Which is a super romantic and understanding view on murder. both musical experiences equally chilling and moving. if i die under mysterious circumstances this will for sure be played at the funeral.
mirrorball: first off, this is my mom's favorite which is very important. also, it has skewered a very specific but also universal insecurity of mine; existing just to please others and yet miserably failing. it is comforting that ts is not a “natural’ and feels she must always “try try try” because i too lack natural ability, but also rarely “try” even just the one time. the best way i can describe listening to this song is walking through a silent disco where everyone else is listening to some classic lady gaga jam and you are listening to a calming lullaby sung very far away. but don’t let the soothing sounds fool you. it still will have you reflecting on what it means to look and be looked at. a dark rabbit whole, like falling through the looking glass. i’ve never actually read that book though so i could be wrong.
seven: i’m dumb and on my first listen of this song i thought she “hit her peak” at 7 clock as opposed to age seven. but i always saw taylor swift as someone with an early bedtime. also a fun discovery while writing this, “seven” is the 7th song on the track list. clever. although this song is young and innocent and so nostalgic for a time when screaming ferociously was a widely accepted form of expression, it also sounds like a very old secret someone is whispering to me. a love from long ago that lasts beyond the person being in your life, passed down to me and it all just sounds a little gay. not just because of the specific line to hiding in the closet. but that certainly doesn’t go unnoticed. when i was seven i was definitely in love with girls and assumed that was just what friendship was, playing pirates and making plans of running away together.
august: the eighth track for the eighth month. her mind. also my birth month so that’s special. controversial opinion: from what i’ve read most people seem to think illicit affair is the third song in the triage of teen love. i will strongly make the case that it's actually this one. first of all, the subject: a short lived summer fling, which is specifically mentioned later in “betty”. the central heartbreak of this song is liking someone who always belonged to someone else. yes, this song is a window into a different summer, far from pandemic central and the escapist imagery is delightful. but a whole song from the pov of the “other woman” to james and betty is just so much more fun. and there are two more specific lyrics that prove my point. “remember when i pulled up and said "get in the car”” you will see later comes back from the other person’s perspective. and most of all: the repeated line, “meet me behind the mall”? only teenagers make plans to meet up behind a mall. i rest my case. so now we have cardigan and august. two pieces of the puzzle.
this is me trying: i’m glad i now have a succinct message to send to anyone when they ask me what the hell i’m doing at any given moment. this song just sounds like regret and waste in the most self-assured and confident way. this is “back to december” with the training wheels off.  i have no apologies for my efforts at wasting all my potential. but in this song, taylor has opened her arms to me in a warm embrace and has forgiven me for all i’ve done wrong and reminds me to not take for granted the “try”. okay mom. i’m crying again, but okay.
illicit affair: this is the kind of thing that makes you feel sixteen, living in a dull suburb, while secretly screwing your 38 year old married neighbor who’s rich but wants to be an artiste. aka like a character in euphoria or something. it’s sexy and dangerous until you think about it and then it's just dingy and creepy. but this song starts and stays beautiful. most importantly, this song is too sad and depressing frankly, to be a part of the trilogy. we could never forgive james for leaving such a mess and making her a fool. you don’t want to be this girl. you want to walk up to her and shake her and yell “you exist and will not be ruined by any dumb man”. and that’s feminism.
invisible string: is it reductive if i say this one’s about joe? all my non-stan friends have asked me which ones are about him. we forgive them and point them in this direction. because it is lovely and beautiful that we are all tied to our soulmate for our whole lives before we ever meet them (because that would in fact mean that there is someone out there for everyone which might be naive or dumb but i am both of those things and whats the point of living if you don’t believe in the power of love). this honestly gives me “begin again” vibes in the best way. it’s red-era level with the wisdom of lover-era tay. sublime.
mad woman: the second mention of the “mad woman” as both taylor herself and the character in the story. as usual, tay stays calling out double standards and the manipulation of women into “going crazy” for expressing reasonable anger. I, personally, wish i could say “fuck you forever” without someone saying i’m “overreacting”. this is my least favorite song on the album and i’d still listen to it three times in a row and need to resist the urge to set a man’s lawn on fire. just girly things.
epiphany: i know she said this one is about her grandfather’s experience in the military but all i imagine is a slow montage of harry style’s character in “dunkirk” on the beach. and it’s beautiful. and much like my sophomore in high school self reading “all quiet on the western front” it evokes a pain from deep inside me that engulfs a loss i could never describe and a sadness too awful to witness. you will listen to this song and feel absolutely powerless to the will of the universe and it’s cruelty. and the faint but steady heart monitor beep in the background… i’ve never seen “grey’s anatomy” but i can imagine why it has so many fans sobbing. and let me end on this: two soldiers in some old war (meaning both men based on dunkirk) watching each other like this and living and dying together…gay.
betty: the first verse was pulled directly out of my subconscious fantasy of being in love in high school and it being so wonderful and painful and dramatic. and taylor riding a skateboard… is a mood. the song has been out for less than a week and it’s already a cold take to talk about how this is her gayest song to date (close runner-ups being reputation’s “dress” and “cardigan”). but of course i will still talk about it. the lyrics embody such authentic awkward gay energy (see the lesbian in booksmart for reference) and having been a 17 year old only three years ago, i can say with reasonably good authority that no 17 year old straight boy could stand in front of a crowd of peers and beg forgiveness from a girl he hurt. it’s just not realistic. these are all awkward, over-dramatic, young girls stumbling through love. and it’s awesome. james is the speaker of this song, and the subject of “august”, the summer fling that was never truly there due to james’ love for betty, the titular role of this song. thus completing the love triangle. and there are so many obvious references in this song to both “august” and “cardigan”. rhyming cardigan with car again makes me want to light myself on fire in the best way. i love it. “i dreamt of you all summer long” is the final nail in the coffin for the girl in “august” who was clearly just a place-holder. totally separate from taylor swift, my favorite word is porch. so the amount of times it appears in her lyrics is wonderful. say it out loud. it just feels nice. anyway, this song makes me want to be young and dumb and in love. the second can really only be tolerated because of the first and third. i hope the story has a happy-ending. if james were a boy i’d wish him the plague.
peace: the coming-of-age movie starring james and betty (and inez) is over. we have come to “the age” i guess. there’s a thought that’s gonna fester. if this song was just the line, “would it be enough if i could never give you peace?” over and over for four minutes it would still smash me to pulp and fill my body with helium gas. i can and will cause a car wreck when this comes on the aux. if this song is what being grown up is like (bare in mind grown up to me is like, 30) then i’m ready to be done coming of age. because i already worry if i’ll be at all enough for anyone and way too much for someone at the same time. but like all good poetry, this song isn’t about what it “means”, but how it “feels”. and this is new york city, the summer, pouring rain, a long walk home, desperately fearing and hoping they are there waiting for you.
hoax: a one-sided conversation between me and my stubborn clinical depression. i too, constantly stand alone on the cliff demanding a reason. one has not yet been presented. it operates both within and and against me. i could be bigger and stronger than it. but instead i tend to it like a prickly plant. (“no other sadness in the world will do”). there is nothing both sadder and funnier then the scene in “avatar: the last airbender” when prince zuko stands alone on a cliff screaming at the sky for lightning to strike him. i don’t know why this song reminds me so much of that. what a way to end such an emotional rollercoaster. it is so emotionally draining that it simply forces me to start folklore again from the top and listen to it all over again.  or take a long therapeutic nap.
there are no skips. and it will still surprise you on your 267th listen. proceed with caution.
i knew you, in a past life maybe. i have not met you yet, but folklore has made me believe you exist.
@taylorswift 10/10 good work
@taylornation this had to be shared and i don’t have a twitter so

@rushpartyofcanada tagged me so I will try even though I do not know if I will be able to come up with 13!
rules: list 13 songs you're currently vibing with, or favorite songs!
1. Holy Moment by WOW OK
This is one of me & my partner’s main Songs. Nearly every fucking line applies to our relationship so well. It’s such a happy, hopeful song and it makes me so emotional. It was the first song they played when we got in the car after they picked me up from the airport, and I commissioned a @snazzystarlight painting of the song for them, and it’s on the wall above their bed now :)))
Tumblr media
2. there is a place for you here. by Left At London
This song makes me fucking CRY. It’s about a fucking CAT. NAT’S CAT TÍMIDO. BABY BOY. BEAUTIFUL. It’s about how taking care of her cat who’d been abused before helped her to feel more hopeful in her own life and about how they’re going to make it through together. It’s such a fucking beautiful song. GOD. And it reminds me of being at my partner’s house too bc I was there with them when I first heard it and when I found out it was about her cat. I listened to it at work today and just wished that instead of being at work I could be laying on my partner’s bed blasting this through their speaker, crying and staring at the ceiling. Damn
3. Michelle by Sir Chloe
This song, despite not actually specifying what exactly makes Michelle a monster from hell, is sung in a way that is very vibey and sexy and I enjoy singing along to it.
4. Cloud 9 by Beach Bunny ft. Tegan and Sara
“But when she loves me, I feel like I’m floating.” That’s me with my partner so much. The og version of this song without T&S uses he/him pronouns throughout, but this one uses she/her in the second chorus and they/them in the third, which is why I prefer this one since I am dating a she/they.
5. Ohio River by Caroline Says
This song is basically a meme in our friend group now because I made it @coolthxmcdoom’s nickname in the meetup planning server because their name is Caroline and they live in Ohio, but before I introduced it to the friend group it was just an extremely vibey song that came up on my local college’s radio station and I should probably smoke weed to it at some point. And now that it’s also relevant to the meetup memories, it has added significance to me.
6. idolize by Ace Smith
Ace Smith is my good friend! I heard a short clip of this song probably a year or so ago, or something like that, when it was unfinished, and thought “ooh this is cool I can’t wait for the full release.” It’s released now! It’s def Ace’s best song, both in my opinion and in Ace’s. Makes me really emotional, I highly recommend it. Please listen to my friend’s music y’all he puts so much work into it and it’s so well made I have so much love and respect for this person it’s insane
7. peace by Taylor Swift
This is another song where every line just punches me in the fuckin chest. Gets me in the fuckin insecurity. Perfectly puts into words feelings that I struggle to convey. I feel so seen.
8. New Year’s Day by Taylor Swift
I made a slight reference to it in a song I recently wrote.
9. anthems by Charli XCX
Another song that Jax played a lot in the car during my trip. They told me then that when they were first crushing on me, this song reminded them of me. I’d never known that before. Now every time I listen to it or it gets stuck in my head I think of this moment in the car when they were singing along to it and I happened to take the selfie at the exact moment they pointed at me at the line “wanna wake up with you.”
Tumblr media
10. forever by Charli XCX
This is yet another song that I heavily associate with Jax, and have from the start of our relationship because they put it on the playlist they made me, and it’s always made me cry.
11. Divine by Jordana
This song is so catchy. I’m not fully sure how it’s supposed to be interpreted and rn I’m a bit too high to do too much analysis but regardless I vibe with it. And I like her vocals.
12. i hope she loves me back by boy pablo
This is another one that I found from my college radio station. It’s sort of corny but in a cute way, and the sound is really cool. I like it. I listened to some more of boy pablo’s music because of it, and he seems to have a very soft sorta vibe/aesthetic that I really like.
13. If We Were Vampires by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
This guy has the same last name as some people in my family and is from my state! I haven’t looked up if there’s a relation, but I wouldn’t discount the possibility. This song is really pretty I can’t think of anything else to say about it I haven’t listened in a bit
BONUS IM DOING A #14. (FOREVER!!!!!!!!!) [WOW OK Remix] by glass beach
God i love WOW OK. I know they’ve only got two releases out but I love Holidaykiss and i love Left At London and i LOVE how their skills combine together. I can’t wait for more from these two.
So as it turns out, I’m very gay.
I don’t know who is and isn’t comfortable being tagged in tag games, so if you see this and want to do it, consider yourself tagged!
