AAAAAAHHHHH what a fantastic end to a fantastic season! it was such a treat seeing jaxa and wesley back! it's so cool to see this show pay homage to some of the OG lower deckers that inspired its creation, and to resolve their story in a heartbreaking but satisfying way. locarno allowed his life to spiral after one critical mistake made as a young man, transforming him from a promising officer into a desperate criminal who would hold the quadrant hostage. yet mariner would have saved him. and starfleet named a planet after him. everyone gets a second chance in the future, even if they don't take it.

the orions taking centre stage was fun to watch this season too! I love seeing the more lethal side of tendi, and the orion culture in general. it's so gratifying to see a race of aliens that was so hypersexualised in the original trek being reimagined as a matriarchy with a warrior mentality. it's so different from the sexism that has followed their every iteration for decades, even into the 2009 movie. but then to have tendi be both a badass and a scientist who embraces her own power and strength? 10/10 mike, no notes!

my only criticism is that I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the dynamic duo, boimler and mariner, having their own mission or arc this season. they're the heart and soul of the show, the kirk and spock heirs apparent, and their banter is so integral to the identity of the show for me. I missed not seeing it so much. [fave moments of my faves: acting captain bradward was so fcking cool, plus mariner staying loyal not to starfleet - but the ideals that birthed it!]

there was a lot of fantastic full-group bonding though, with that super cute caves episode showing the entire gang flashing back to the good times they've had all together. and with a cuddle pile, my weakness 🥺

I made a small joke comparing Hero is Back SWK and my idea for his LEM as being like Loid and Yor from Spy x Family and!;

The HiB au fam are literally the Forgers in a different font.

Stoic but dedicated goofy dad + wholesome but terrifying mom duo - who are still getting used to being a couple. + their michevious adopted kid who's more powerful than anyone thinks.

Liuer: "Great Sage and the Warrior are flirting..." Dasheng & Zhanshi, both flustered: "No we are not!"

Liuer also would 100% make Anya's mischief face when he tries pulling a trick to make his fave monkeys get closer to one another. :3

Meanwhile, grandpa Fa Ming is like the Master Roshi (DBZ) of the family. He may be odd, but they would all kill for him.

Unironically, thank you for reaching directly into my brain b/c I will never climb out of this hole apparently.

my favorite female character — Nihuang, Nihuang, Nihuang. This show is full of delightful complicated ladies (Consort Jing is fucking fascinating and I could write whole essays on how she works ingeniously in her extremely constrained circumstances to change the fate of the empire), but Mu Nihuang hits my thing for warrior ladies and my thing for tragic love that endures but is not enough, and Liu Tao has the kind of face that writes poems for the camera when you just point it at her. She is strong and tender and temperamental and multifaceted and yeah, have you considered that sometimes the woman is the blorbo.

my favorite male character — Okay, Mei Changsu is my problematic fave but also protect Xiao Jingyan at all costs. This is a harder question because I love both of them, and there's also Yan Yujin and Marquis Yan, the unconquerable father-son conspiracy duo we did not deserve but got anyway, and also Meng Zhi, without whom we would all be even more lost and confused amid all the Schemes. But I am going to say Jingyan, because he's such a Type for me (the repressed yet short-fused Lawful Good character who sticks to his morals but also has to grow beyond his narrow views), and also a Type flawlessly executed in both writing and acting. He suffers beautifully but also I don't want him to.

my favorite book/season/etc — Plot arc, maybe? This is everyone's answer but the Spring Hunt arc is gorgeous and has everything. Nihuang returns! Consort Jing is flawless! There's Strategy and Plotting and Desperate Last Stances! (Everyone gaslights Jingyan to a mildly disturbing degree...) I have too many favourite moments to count, though.

my favorite episode (if its a tv show) — I admit a great fondness for that part where Mei Changsu and Jingyan wait for the rescue team for Wei Zheng to get back. It's functionally just two guys in a room waiting for news, but the incredible tension strung between them and the fact that they're both helpless and can do nothing but wait for time to pass as other people's actions decide their fate make it riveting to me. They are generally characters who always have ways and means, but there, they're at the mercy of time. Together. Something something this scene is the show in a microcosm.

my favorite cast member — Honestly I don't know enough about the actors to say, but they all seem like they had a great time filming the series.

my favorite ship — As anyone with eyes can see, jingsuhuang is where I plant my flag, but I am pretty much a multishipper. The OT3 compels me because both Jingyan and Nihuang have such amazing chemistry with MCS and also because I feel like either of them alone runs the risk of being almost... overwhelmed by his sense of purpose and his stubborn self-denial. It balances better with three. Plus, as a friend perfectly put it, two of them is great but what about the spice (narrative, not merely erotic)? Eh. I could write a novel. I also enjoy Mu Nihuang x Xia Dong, Mei Changsu x Lin Chen, Yan Yujin x Xiao Jingrui (x Gong Yu), and pretty much anything if the writer has put a compelling spin on it. My shipping philosophy in this fandom is that I'll try anything once, and twice if I like it.

a character I’d die defending — Obviously, Consort Jing, but also, protect Xiao Jingyan at all costs. He has, after all, never done anything wrong in his life.

a character I just can’t sympathize with — I don't think there are any in NiF? Many of them do horrible things but the show generally always lets me understand why. Even its villains are written as people. (That said, Xia Jiang is the worst, and the Emperor reaches similar depths of infamy before the end for me.)

a character I grew to love — Lin Chen crept up on me! I think it was the 40-episode absence after the dramatic introduction in ep. 1 that made me feel like he was stealing scenes and intimacy from characters I had spent 40 episodes watching (while they failed in various ways to get close to Mei Changsu). He is also, ah, the kind of comedic that doesn't usually works for me. But rewatching a little, reading some fic, and thinking about it further, he's a vital part of the story and someone that Mei Changsu sorely needs, i.e. a friend he made after the Meiling massacre, who won't always reflect him against the image of Lin Shu but cares for him as he is now.

my anti otp — IDK? There are various awful men in this show that the women around them Do Not Deserve. Poor, poor Consort Jing, working herself into the Emperor's favour. So maybe it's just that some of the canon marriages are really sort of terrible.

thank youu i was also a warriors kid haha. i was drawing flipnote hatena scene kid cats when i was 11 fr. tbh i don't really draw cats much anymore im sure there's lots of artists who draw cats more often than i with better advice but uhh. i feel like cats are very. round? like their head shapes and their ears etc. try to use circles and round edges in your sketches? im honestly learning myself still ^^'

Hmmmmm off the top of my head I think Belos from TOH considering most of my characters are brunettes with their eyes leaning to blue, another one is just ben tennyson and his overall personality and body of being a twink with an ego who is also extremely self sacrificial altho it differs how much depending on the type of character I actually want and ofc their age

I had an old story called Terminal something something and the mc was a nonbinary kid who was secretly related to an ancient family of warriors that now has to fight the ancient evil that's abt to come back, but is the evil really so evil?

Say hello to Piper! there were also going to be a set of weapons that get collected over time that cast use but they didn't seem like weapons. For example Piper's was a mask that turned them to the Sun Warrior (able to use it bc of their family blood) and another example is a vase that controls wate! A mirror! A book that has people and things sealed within it able to release said thing and control it with a key! and a painting! theres more but I don't want to have this be too long

Hello, I'm PS. I sometimes paint minis and write fanfic.

I primarily rep the Salamanders, but I also like the Red Corsairs, the Iron Warriors, the Thousand Sons, Vashtorr the Arkifane, my original Dark Mechanicum sect, and several Astartes/Legionary characters from other Chapters/Legions.

This is (unfortunately) a sideblog, so apologies if it's hard to tell whether we've interacted. If it helps, my main is a very old astronomy-related blog!

Now, come under the cut and I'll tell you a little about myself and all about my favourite guys. [WIP, please forgive the mess.]

About me:

I live in the UK, but I wasn't born or raised here.

I was an archaeologist, but I'm a copy editor now. Cheers, Brexit. 🙄

My major hobby is LARP. I crew and play quite a lot of small and mid-size games.

My first experience with Warhammer 40k was a Dark Heresy TTRPG Campaign campaign where I played a "pilgrim" (scout equivalent) from a rogue Space Marine Chapter who was part of an Inquisitor's retinue. Still one of the best TTRPGs I've ever played.

Fell in love with the Salamanders due to a plot point in that game. Later read the Tome of Fire books, which only deepened my love.

I wanted to start painting then, but after an uncomfortable experience at what was then my local GW store, I didn't feel like it would be a good idea.

My spouse and I painted minis for a few RPGs and Legacy board games together over the years. We sucked, but it was fun.

Last year, I started watching Warhammer videos while painting Frosthaven minis. Finding Ebay Miniature Rescues was what finally got through to me.

Since then, I've been painting and reading when I can. I've played Killteam a few times with my spouse, loved it every time.

I'm neurodivergent and just absolutely horrendous at communication. I have three modes: enthusiasm, anxiety spiral, and complete hermit. All of these can make me difficult to interpret. I've spent years giving myself hell for it and I'm trying not to do that any more, but please understand that it only takes one brief conversation for me to consider us friends. If I forget to reply, I still think you're amazing and I will genuinely be delighted if you nudge me or randomly get in touch months or years later.

Canon Faves:

ALL THE SALAMANDERS - literally all of them. I'm super hung up on Nick Kyme's Rebirth though, so my favourites are Ur'zan Drakgaard (whom I HC as being a dreadnought in current 40k), Adrax Agatone, and the poor little meow meow x feral massive hiss hiss duo of Exor and Zartath (yes, he counts!!). Also, Chaplain Elysius is always 10/10. Sa'kan from Pariah Nexus is also wonderful and I hope we see him again soon.

All the cool humans around the Salamanders - RIP Makato. Issak and Agatone should kiss once. Shoutout to Tsu'gan's brander, he didn't deserve what happened to him. Colonel Redgage is babygirl and I'll always wonder if he survived.

Non-Salamander OCs:

Kemal Afshar and Setka Radjedef of the Thousand Sons. Technically my spouse's OCs, but they're kind of shared at this point. Despite being on different sides of the Ahriman-Magnus divide, these ancient Terran boys meet often to play sorcerous board games together. You can read more about them here! Warsmith Kirakos Neman of the Iron Warriors and Fleet Captain Roscius Sedulius of the Red Corsairs enter into a trade agreement together with personally devastating consequences. You can read more about them (and other characters from their warbands) here!

Skitarius Escher has been requisitioned from Forgeworld Urum by the Inquisition, serving in a team headed by Interrogator Arion Astraeus under the auspices of Inquisitor Griselda Novaria of the Ordo Hereticus. You can read more about them (and the rest of the team) here!

I also have several techmarines-in-training, though there are no available stories for them yet. So far, I have Irran Alto (Dragonspears), Adathan (Blood Angels), and Ganzorig (White Scar).

OC squad: The 6th Company's 3rd Tactical.

(Apologies for the Heroforge pics below, I hope to actually put together my squad's minis this year and then this'll have proper pictures. Or I'll commission some artwork.)

The 6th's 3rd [name TBA] is a squad of Salamanders currently stationed in the rotating garrison at Clymene. Currently eight men + a Sergeant, though they often deploy with the addition of Lexicanum An'terea, an elderly Astartes who was caught up in the Psychic Awakening at the turn of the millennium.

Led by Sergeant Benedan Te'rien (~160), a fixture of the 6th. In the forge, Te'rien specialises in fine metalwork. Te'rien has tried to run his squad like a family where he is the paterfamilias, but he's still emotionally compromised after the death of someone he had an intense friendship with in the past. Even though younger Astartes are often seen as more emotional and less detached, Te'rien is an example of how untrue this is. His deep love for the 6th Company stands in contrast with his stubborn refusal to leave Clymene to rejoin the rest of the 6th in Aethonian. Only his current Captain and second-best friend Nehr Ur’Venn knows that his self-imposed exile isn't meant to keep him away from the company, but is based on his need to preserve a status quo that actually died many years ago.

Pe'tar Philo and Carix An'terea go back like 250 years and are absolutely devoted to each other. It's not that they exclude others on purpose, they're just unrelatably old and are the only ones left from an extremely tight knit squad that died many years before. An'terea isn't technically part of the same squad as Philo any more, but he takes advantage of his new Librarian status (thanks, Psychic Awakening) to attach himself to whatever squad Philo is part of. There are several younger Astartes he cares about like Kea'hi and Val'ten, and both Philo and An'terea have grown closer to Sabinus in recent years.

Philo is a brash, avuncular man who cares deeply about the squad. He was a Sergeant in the 5th many years ago and hated being in charge. Since then, he has rejected promotion. He just wants to fight on and spend the calm parts of his life reminiscing with An'terea. Only bothered crossing the Rubicon because An'terea asked him to.

I don't plan to discuss this further in any of my Salamander stories beyond All-seeing Dawn, but pilot and emergency medic Cor'en (~300, claims 75) is an infiltrator. Not from Alpha Legion, but from a homebrew rogue chapter called the Reavers in Metal. He was meant to infiltrate the Deathwatch, but got stuck with the Salamanders by mistake. He genuinely respects Te'rien. Watching the flawed little Sergeant do his best reminds Cor'en of humanity's tenacity. He's not a big fan of the rest of the squad, though. He misses his old squad. He hopes to leave the Salamanders soon. He just this needs to get his hands on one thing, and then he can “die” on the next battlefield and go home. He's the only Firstborn in the squad at first, though more will arrive as young Primaris marines are promoted and older Firstborn marines transfer to the reserve companies.

Lattis (60s), Keleth(80s), and Kea'hi (~45) are the tight core of the squad. The Themian Lattis thinks he's the ringleader of this group because Te'rien was his Forgefather when he was a child, but it's actually Keleth, a cuddly Hesiodian with many forgechildren of his own. Kea'hi is a bit younger, he is a very normal Salamander. Kea'hi worries that his position might be insecure since he's the youngest in the core and Lattis gives another soldier called Atsen Bai'keti a hard time for being “the baby”, but Kea'hi only thinks that because he doesn't understand what's actually going on between those two. The truth is that Lattis hates people he sees as dishonest, so he saw red when Bai'keti showed up and started swaggering around. Unfortunately, Lattis hasn't noticed that Bai'keti has grown up a lot over the years, so he keeps tormenting him.

Sabinus (~65) used to be part of the core group until Bai'keti showed up. His defense of Bai'keti from Lattis's bullying split him off a little from that group, but only Lattis actually lost respect for him. Everyone else still likes him, and Sabinus, Philo and An'terea have become more friendly since then. Sabinus has a heavy, sullen face, but he's actually calm, perceptive and knows the backgrounds of all his squad mates except Cor’en. He has a big heart and a forgiving nature. He would make a good Sergeant, but he's utterly uninterested in command and doesn't know the rest of the 6th Company well on account of being stuck in Clymene for many decades. He may still be promoted someday. Teased Val'ten a little at first because he found him a bit soft and twee.

Atsen Bai'keti (~32) was never meant to be in the 6th's 3rd. He was once a special scout, not intended for the companies at all but for Mars. However, he suffered a medical mishap and ended up taking significantly longer than average to ascend, meaning that a different scout who began ascension after him left for Mars in his stead. Unfortunately, all the stress, memory issues, and the fall from star scout to disappointment meant that he was a complete mess when he joined the squad. At first, he acted childishly superior and conceited out of insecurity. He has mellowed over the years, especially now that his body has stabilised. Nevertheless, Lattis still gives him hell. When Sabinus stood up in Bai'keti's defense, this unfortunately created tension in the squad and isolated Bai'keti further. With only two friends and a horrible power sword he is desperately failing to make work, Bai'keti doesn't feel like he's part of the squad. Things will improve tremendously for him once he leaves for Mars and finds that he's older and more experienced than the average Techmarine-in-training. He will probably join the Deathwatch after that and return in his 80's with an actual reason to swagger around.

Val'ten (R) gets a talking-to from Sergeant Te'rien (L).

Dejan Val'ten (~25) is the newest member of the 6th. He was a PDF orphan from Heliosa before he was apprenticed to a Brother there. He's the opposite of Bai'keti, having had a relatively straightforward ascension. Unlike his Brother Salamanders, he isn't particularly gifted in the forge, but what he lacks in technical skills he makes up for with tenacity, diplomacy and a strategic mind. He's overly aware of his youth and inexperience, so he tries hard to fit in. He makes friends quickly with Bai'keti, which makes Kea'hi avoid him by proxy. Lattis and Keleth, however, treat him relatively well. On the flip side, Sabinus makes fun of him sometimes. Val'ten idolizes Sergeant Te'rien at first, but comes to see his human side. They will have been good friends for many years by the time Te'rien dies and Val'ten replaces him as Sergeant.

Dal'ris Moloi (~27) is not a Salamander. He was an aspirant who failed to ascend, and is now Val'ten's brander-priest. He requested to be assigned to Val'ten because Val'ten helped his family while he was a scout. The two become very close, working on a secret project together. Val'ten discovers that he enjoys making Dal'ris happy, Dal'ris thinks Val'ten is hot and is flattered that his Lord Astartes pays so much attention to him. They're falling in love.

Drek'tyr (~300) is a very old firstborn who moves down from a higher company when he realizes everyone around him is Primaris now. He replaces Bai'keti. He has a stupid saurian hat and I love him a lot. A little gremlin of a man. He's literally only here because my spouse gave me a very silly mini of a Salamander with a dinosaur head.

nigel vanessa being an unexpected duo but was sorely needed like just looking at their personalities on paper and their insecurities etc etc it fit SO good!! also vanessa finally losing it and being able to get those words out to her parents was so cathartic to read like "i'm a failure but i was yours first" ATE

CHARLIE AND ZAY PERFORMANCE!!! i always love a good charlie zay performance because its just so good every time...i still get chills thinking abt the rewrite the stars sequence from a few seasons ago idkidk

the performances this ep were definitely some long-time coming moments (DJ is my favorite tswift song of all time so i had been Waiting to drop that one, especially since farkle is no shade my favorite Performer in the series -- when he's bouta drop something, you know its gonna Hit essentially). and zc... can you believe its actually been so long since they were allowed to sing together? it boggles the mind. (and they haven't danced together as a performance since rewrite the stars, speaking of, but we won't talk about that lest it make both of us lose it completely -- but rest assured you're not alone in the ambition warrior verse of still thinking about that performance)

and yes to nigel and vanessa!! getting to explore both of their arcs this season has been very fun, both from the angle of a character we knew already and liked but not quite in depth (and not with all the flaws we come to see as he struggles to adjust) and from a character where we knew perhaps ONLY the flaws (from her feisty interactions in s3) and then got to peel back the layers over the season. they've both had their lows, and it's very meaningful to us that y'all trust us to take the journey and not immediately jump down their throats for being imperfect (basically, thank god no one on twitter -- or x, whatever it is now -- knows about ambition ahahhfsfskdg)

OH !! That's exciting heh it's not everyday you see ppl interested in playing 12 but I'M ALL HERE FOR IT. Despite some things and few characters that can feel annoying at times, it's a final fantasy game so I'm sure you're going to like it. I'm made of final fantasy memories and so is my WOL so she's almost too heavily inspired by fran, because despite 12 not being like my top 3 ff, fran is my top 3 female character lol so I reeally recommend it!! The world building is actually really nice, and you will fall for like at least 50% of the main party (and despite what most ppl think, I do like vaan. He's just quirky dude and that's okay.) But yeah you really should give it a try!! Balthier was like one of my first video game crushes ever, so I'm not going to sit here and ignore your interest in this game!!! Go for it, I'm sure you will have a great time ♡

AND YEEEEESSSS ABOUT PRAE!! I adore the thought of WOL and Thancred being just like "oh she/he hot" at first but when Thancred/Lahabrea thing happens the WOL goes "oh shit why do I care that much?" And you cannot tell me Thancred isn't like starstruck for the first time when the WOL saves him in Prae. I adore the idea of him acting weird on the very first days after it bc he's still embarrassed lol but yeah, everything about how protect Thancred is actually speaks to me in a emotional level. He's also one of my faves, and I always think about his relationship with the Scions a lot and the thought of him caring so much for them vs starting to have feelings for the WOL has so much potential angst, I love it. He lost so much and all he has now is them, he couldn't really bear to make a mistake of loosing her too you know??? IDK I JUST LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. And when u play ffxii, think of them when you meet fran and balthier would you? It's the sole image of power duo I hope him and my WOL has — even before being together. I went for a whole ass essay there but I just love them a lot, and IN MY DEFENSE, I picked the gunblade before Thancred. Because, like I said, me and my WOL are made of final fantasy memories so I saw something that reminded me of ffviii and I had to. So yup !! I main gunbreaker just like that mf, and they are a very happy gunbreaker couple tyvm (in case u didn't know, I was the one that sent u the hades ex ask few days ago!! I walk around proudly with my odune dude!!)

Also I woud LOVE to show you my WOL, she's my pride and joy and VERY similar to Fran but you should expect heh I'm kinda shy to post her on tumblr tho 👉👈 mostly bc I'm not the most gposer person ever hahah so I only have in game screenshots! I can sent u them in a separated ask tho if you'd like !! Together with another ask ofc lol and then you can answer just the one without the images so I don't expose too much of it lmao

And just for the record: your feelings with Thancred is exactly how I feel about Estinien. He's a good boy and everything you talk about ur WOL and him I just go "yes, he deserves it." Because *taps estinien's back* this bad boy can fill so much love in it!!

From what I saw here it looks like ff12 has a medieval setting and the animations look so beautiful too. I will definitely try it if manage to get it on sale. I love games with good stories and well written characters.

It seems like you really found the ONE for your Warrior of Light considering how you have lots of thoughts about both of them dfghfjdkf. I really feel happy for you. And I agree with your points about Thancred we saw how much he cares about his loved ones after the Ifrit questline, how much he regrets not being there with the Warrior of Light... After that, the game always separates both of them -Lahabrea possessing him, bloody banquet, Thancred staying behind when the Warrior of Light leaves for Ala Mhigo AND he is the first Scion that Exarch pulls into the First-

Also, both of them being GNB is so cool because after you send this ask I searched how Thancred learned to be a GNB, and Our job master Radovan's friend taught him??!!! IT IS SO ROMANTIC IF YOU ASK ME. Both of them teaching their art to this power couple and their legacy passing to your Warrior of Light and Thancred...

And I understand you perfectly about not wanting to show your Warrior of Light to everyone. I won't answer that ask if you would send me a picture of her and delete it after looking. And thanks for your Hades EX ask too. I might do that trial soon and get my own Odune or Eleos. Wish me luck (I have none when it comes to drops in this game)
