i just started the newest episode of d20 and i know that this isn't useful bc all of the episodes of burrow's end have already been recorded but @quiddie if you (or anyone else), for whatever reason, need to come up with more words for stoats, consider:

#for those who dont know ''kijetesantakalu'' is a word in toki pona#which is a minimalist conlang with less than 150 words#most of the words have a very broad meaning (/can have several meanings) and are 1-3 syllables#meanwhile kijetesantakalu specifically means musteloid#the word was originally an april fools joke but is part of the official vocabulary#dimension 20#burrow's end#aabria iyengar#toki pona#(if you wanna keep the phrase within toki pona you can maybe use ''kijetesantakalu kulupu'' which would mean ''group of stoats'')#(bc in toki pona there arent that many options if you wanna be alliterative)#(but if you wanna mix english and toki pona you can just go with ''kick-ass kijetesantakalu'' or something like that)#((also i dont actually know that much about toki pona so @toki pona people please dont come for me if i got something wrong))#((ive just watched some jan misali videos ok))

I want to continue hosting tournaments, I enjoy it very much, so you can expect more in the future for sure. However the last one was quite long with a lot of work, so I think I'll take a break now, at least for the time of my upcoming exam period (sigh). But I'll to run a poll now at least to decide the theme of the next tournament, so please vote for what do you want to see from the blog!
*If I get to choose, probably it will be musteloids. However you can suggest any other families in the notes, and if this option wins, i'll make a poll to decide which suggested family should I use.

Following their prey into new lands the many carnivorous classes that developed over the course of the earliest Epigene came in contact with each other. Unlike the herbivores these predators weren’t as able to partition and suffered greater losses with the Eurasian biota dominating on the African and North American ones in almost every niche.
The small and medium sized forest-dwelling badgers, other musteloids and cats were mostly unaffected, with only the more lynx like terrestrial Bizofelini native of North America declining in diversity. The exchange was catastrophic for African cats tho, with only small extremophilic desert cats surviving along with the last mainland Celerailurine surviving in modern day South Africa and Namibia, Kalailurus mandelae.
Fellimines and Arctofelines displaced all of the large African and North American hypercarnivores that didn’t inhabit rainforest habitats, as golden jackals descendants did with most other larger canids, and Arctochoeropsines with most bigger generalists, except for some more arboreal medium-sized Diacyonines surviving in the Eastern forests of North America.
The only major exceptions to the Eurasian dominance would be the Lycornithines, becoming quite common across the Eurasian and North American grasslands, taking on a similar role to the African secretary birds and South American seriemas; and the Lycothoines, mesocarnivorous pack hunters capable of crushing bone and taking down prey as large as the juvenile Elepharrhinids and even fully grown giant hyraxes, that had no equivalents in Eurasia and North America and thus were able to get into a new niche for those ecosystems.

I feel like... a lot of people, and a lot of therians, don't really understand cladotherianthropy. They know the definition because it's in all the glossaries and alterhuman dictionaries but they don't actually read about first-hand experiences of cladotherians and how our identities actually function. Beyond the definition.
This got away from me a bit so I'm putting a cut.
Cladotherianthropy, for a very large swathe of us, does not actually entail "identifying as every single species in a clade." I mean, it does, technically, but folks see the definition and think "oh, so like, a canine cladotherian equally identifies and labels themself as and has shifts of as literally every species of canine down to the most specific and obscure. So if someone is every kind of canine except a red fox, they can't call themself a cladotherian." And on a purely practical level, that's not really how it works for a lot of us.
I am a Musteloidea cladotherian, and when I say that, people leave with the impression that I somehow juggle the shifts of all 89 extant musteloid species without getting overwhelmed, that I feel like and identify as and like being called all 89 competing labels equally, and there is not a one among those 89 that I feel like "less" than the others and especially not one I don't feel like at all. Because that's not what the dictionary definition says.
My musteloid identity is not 89 distinct little fully formed theriotypes. It's more like a big shape. I am a big, fluid, shifting shape of musteloid vibes, musteloid shifts, musteloid instincts, and musteloid identities. It spreads out and encompasses the whole clade, but that's why we have the word "cladotype" -- it's not 89 theriotypes, it's one, one animal. There are definitely, absolutely some species I don't really identify as. Most cladotherians would admit the same. It's a wide net but it's not gonna catch every fish in the sea. Example: I'm not really a kinkajou. (That's a type of procyonid, raccoon relative, for the uninformed.) Don't really have kinkajou shifts, don't really like the label as much as I like others I identify with stronger, don't really see myself as one or feel like one the way I feel like a raccoon or a coati or ringtail cat. I'm still a cladotherian.
I see variations of this question asked all the time: "I'm a [big cat/fox/echinoderm] cladotherian, but is it ok if I don't feel like I'm a [lion/Tibetan sand fox/cyrtocrinid]?" Most cladotherians have a few or, depending on the size of their clade, possibly many species they don't identify as or at least as much. If the fox cladotherian was every fox except a Tibetan sand fox, what are they supposed to do? Have 36 theriotypes? No, they are welcome in cladotherian spaces, they always have been. This even goes for if they only identify as 20 fox species -- if they feel like their kintype is cladistic in nature, they do not have 20 fox theriotypes, they have 1 fox cladotype.
