Mending Muscles
Your blood contains cell fragments – platelets – that can supercharge muscle repair. It's why platelet-rich plasma injections are used to treat muscle injuries. Researchers investigate why this works using fluorescence microscopy of uninjured and injured mouse muscles (pictured). Platelets accumulated after injury and antibody treatment to deplete injured muscles of platelets prevented immune cells called neutrophils from accumulating in these muscles. This also impaired repair. As platelets release chemical messengers called cytokines, researchers measured cytokine levels after injury in normal and platelet-depleted muscles. Platelet depletion reduced levels of the neutrophil-attracting cytokines CXCL5 and CXCL7. Comparing muscles from normal mice (before injury, left; 2 weeks later, middle) and those lacking CXCL7 (2 weeks after injury, right), revealed mice lacking CXCL7 recruited fewer neutrophils upon injury and 2 weeks later had smaller muscle fibres (zoom, bottom right). Platelet-derived CXCL7 therefore promotes muscle repair via neutrophils – this pathway could be exploited to boost repair.

What kind of cruelty is this!!?!?!
I draw, knit, crochet, paint, sew etc. and I have hurt my elbow. When I have nothing to do but my usual very arm reliant hobbies!
Why???

I recovered from rhabdomyolysis. I was in the hospital two weeks ago. And now, I'm healed. TBH, I was worried because I thought I was going to lose my leg. It made an already weird and depressing January even moreso. Thank goodness that's over.
This can happen to people who work out or play sports. Doesn't seem like it's real until your muscles are swollen to the point you feel nothing but pain. It breaks down muscle, tissue, and has the propensity to cause permanent tissue death and kidney damage if not treated immediately.
I don't know what else to say but if you're experiencing symptoms please call 911 go to the hospital immediately. Doing that saved my life.

to anyone who draws and experiences wrist pain like I do i. I figured out the blindspot to solving the pain. maybe this is obvious but whatever. im honestly I'm frustrated at myself for not knowing sooner bcs I was an athlete for so long. but what always confused and frustrated me was that no matter how much i stretched the pain wasnt going away
people always linked n shared resources to stretches and it'd give me temporary relief but not deal with the issue especially not any longer than the time it took me to stretch.
u do have to stretch. but u ALSO HAVE TO WORK OUT YOUR ARMS.
the reason we are hurting so much is because that muscle is doing a lot of repetitive and strenuous motion but the whole length of your arms and wrists aren't strong enough to withstand that much work.
u cant just stretch. buy a set of light-ish weights and just pick a set of wrist and arm workouts u like. do them often. stretch and do those work outs. i really dont even think it matters which you do I do a combination of this and this
just pick ones u like that are good for you, working out can be fun and not miserable i promise. do it. save ur wrists. my life has changed, i still feel pain but ive been able to work and not be ready to cry the next day from daring to try

actually i am going to say that you do have to consider that tim's childhood spent in a variety of sports and activities and exposure to various different sports (gymnastics probably, given whole wanting to be like dick...aikido probably...tennis...probably football at least for a couple years, his dad is jack after all. i'm gonna assume he did little league for a bit, that would track for his upbringing. soccer maybe.) is actually pretty important in giving him a fairly strong starting base prior to him becoming robin as far as good proprioception, strength, good hand/foot-eye coordination, balance, motor control, joint stability, less likely to have a history of injuries or overuse of certain muscle groups due to specialization, etc.

forgive my absolute ignorance and maybe stupidity, but does swimming and other pool related activities help hypermobility? Whenever I told anyone related to medicine I'm having joint pain, they told me to take many a bath and frequent a pool
yes. water-related actitivites help with joint pain a) by in the case of exercise like aerobics and swimming building muscle and b) doing so whilst relieving pressure on the joints because the water is holding you up
hot baths will relieve pressure on the joints (unlike standing or even sitting to take a shower) and the heat will relax the muscles whilst the water supports you

Hey y'all, weird question time again! I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this one, but asking anyway: If you are having severe muscle cramps/knots/tension all over your body and go to a doctor/urgent care/hospital for them, assuming the doctor believes it's something that needs treatment, the only things they can give you are anti-inflammatories, pain relief, muscle relaxers, or like an IV to rehydrate you if it turns out to be caused by dehydration, right? I know those are three very broad categories of treatment, I'm not asking for specifics within those categories, just if there are options outside of them (I am allergic to NSAIDs, already on corticosteroids for unrelated reasons, probably shouldn't have muscle relaxers or stronger pain meds for "my blood pressure looks for any excuse to crash" reasons, and am staying on top of hydration and electrolytes, but this round of muscle cramps is bad, even for me)
