Also, aww, thank you! I'm always happy to hear that my work brought people joy and entertainment. I do wish I had finished that Fountain of Youth project (it's still over on livejournal, I think). That one had legs, in terms of great potential.

If I were to write Meckett now I suspect it'd be a bit more adjacent/distant from the movies. I haven't seen POTC in years - I think I last rewatched it like six or seven years ago. A girl I was dating at the time hadn't seen it nor Muppet Treasure Island so we did a Pirate Movie Double Feature. As for POTC: DMC, it's been even longer.

The likelihood of a new Meckett is never a sum 0! Every once in a while I get the Mercer/Beckett bug and think about them and potential plots. Sometimes, now, it's Mercer/Beckett/Elizabeth because I think they'd make a great power triumvirate and Elizabeth deserves someone less of a wet blanket than Will Turner. I also like her more ruthless side and wish we saw more of it.

But yeah! If something strikes my fancy, I might write more. or if a prompt is particularly inspirational. You never know!

Okay but a thought of mine given new rise by the animated intro after having it niggle at the back of my mind for months now are Ludinus and Otohan as villains and who’s going to be standing as the final big bad at the end of the campaign, the way Vecna and Lucien did for c1 and c2.

Because the obvious answer is Ludinus. He’s the instigator, the leader of the cult, a villain in the making for 2 whole campaigns and over a thousand years (not to mention the one who's actually interacted with the party outside of fights). But Otohan is the one standing center stage of the villain line-up in the opening. She’s the one shown actively fighting the party. And, more importantly (as narrative matters more than barely glimpsed easter eggs), she's the one tied to the history and setting of Marquet, who has actual stakes in the people there and has fought for (and against) them before in the Apex War (while the place Ludinus called home was torn down centuries ago, leaving him caring for seemingly nothing but his ultimate goal since). She’s the one who’s actually Ruidusborn, and she’s tied to the Luxon as well with her strange magic. And despite all this, she’s mostly passed under the radar so far, given very little developments or motives or history or even personality. She’s little more than a cool aesthetic and a handful of threats.

And here’s my thought: maybe that’s on purpose. Ludinus, in his great arrogance, has placed himself as the greatest threat, and he’s being treated as such by the Hells. But is he? He steals immortality, appropriates the very concept of being Ruidusborn while holding a secret resentment for lacking the very powers it grants. He barely knows what he’s doing, and certainly not what he's about to unleash. And is there anything more satisfying than seeing a deeply arrogant and hubristic villain taken down by his own folly in underestimating those around him? So what if, as the final fight edges closer, the person actually holding the powers Ludinus pretends to steps up out of the shadows she placed herself in, keeping her motives to herself, barely remarked upon by Ludinus or the Hells or the audience, and personally cuts him down and takes her place as THE exalted Ruidusborn?

ok bittersweet helping-a-beast-as-scared-and-cornered-as-they-are aside, can we talk about how fucked up fearne is over losing orym? last episode, screaming at imogen to wake up, in an emotional place we’ve never seen her go to before because she’ll be goddamned if she loses anyone else. this episode calling fcg out on their 'power of friendship' bullshit, "you of all people know" "yeah, you lose people". holding imogen close and telling her she's voicing their collective fears. seeing a creature, formidable in battle but sad and alone, with no family left, and deciding she wouldn't let it be alone anymore. it’s been quiet but it’s so present in everything she’s been doing since they found themselves in wildemount

see, i made the mistake of thinking that people cared about fearne as a character outside of shipping and just made the assumption fans would be nasty about her if any ships were to become canon based on her character. but people clearly do not see her as anything more than a romantic interest or wingman for the character or ship they like.

like i can go into ashton's tag and find a lot of debate on what their arc is and what his opinions on stuff happening in the world outside of shipping is, but i try to go into fearne's tag to find like-minded individuals to say "hey it's a little fucked up that fearne's getting strongarmed into taking a shard she has said time after time she doesn't want that could very well thanos snap her into dust by her friends (including orym. orym.) who mere days ago assured laudna they wouldn't let anything bad happen to her but don't show her that same leeway because 'destiny said so' and 'they'd make a cute couple' and the only pushback against it is ashton feeling uncomfy and grossed out about being shoved into said couple against their will and she's just an afterthought" only to find it's full of people arguing if callowmoore is Inherently Problematic™ and nothing else talking about her outside of that except for like three guys tops
