Watching my new copy of the 2003 series, my mother’s first time seeing it, and I’m having way too much fun hinting that there’s something vastly different about this version of Shredder.
For example, Leo just took the big palooka’s head off, and Ma was like “Finally!”
But I was all Jedi sage and mysterious “You would think so, wouldn’t you.”
Then at the end of the episode Shredder gets up and picks up his head, tucks it under his arm and walks away through the flames.
Ma “Wtf?! What’s it take to kill this guy?!”
Me “It’ll all make sense later, I promise.”

Mama’s pretty little murderess.
It’s exhilarating.
Lightning cracks just as Delphini falls into step beside her mother, the pair of them frolicking around the ring of mud bloods fanning out in a horrible panic. Her favorite game. A green curse soars by Delphini and she watches as one of them falls, their eyes still open as they slump into the dirt. She laughs before picking out her own target, and then another one after that.
This one dodges her curse, turning around to face her.
How brave of him.
Her smile as he lifts his wand nearly splits her face in two, eyes eager - she positively adores it when they try and fight back.
At the casting of his first hex she catapults forward, whirling around his curses without so much as lifting her wand. It isn’t until she’s much closer - so close she can practically smell the fear radiating off him - that she gets into more proper form. His eyes are so focused on her wand hand that he doesn’t even process the flick of her right hand finger to be the reason his throat rips open. His filthy blood sprays out of his neck in a stream, covering Delphini’s face and robes, its still warm.
She hadn’t even spoken the cutting curse, didn’t need to use a wand, she didn’t even need to be this close to do it.
She just wanted to see the look in his eyes once he realized.
Delphini cackles, euphoric. The final mudblood falls and she feels her mother's presence next to her, dark magic crackling around them both, much more powerful than the lightning. Bellatrix laughs as well:
“Mama’s pretty little murderess.”
She turns to her mother with a gleeful smile, her enemy's blood pushed to the edge of her lips, flowing down her jaw and neck.
“Runs in the family.”

Christmastime was always the best time of the year in the Encanto. Pepa always made a massive blanket of snow for the village children to play in, the grownups in the village bustling about to get the perfect Christmas gifts for their families, and Julieta’s special cookies that she only made at that time of the year could be smelled for miles. It was the Madrigal family’s favorite time of the year for those reasons.
Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel took turns breathing on Casita’s window and drawing pictures with their fingers. Julieta was close by gathering ingredients for the cookies she was going to make; but this year, she had a surprise for her daughters.
“Ninas, I’ve decided to have all three of you help me make the cookies this year.”
The sisters’ faces lit up as they jumped up from the chairs against the windowsill and ran up to their mother. This was the first year Julieta asked all three of her daughters to help with the cookies. She has alternated in asking Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel to help her every year up to that point, but she wanted to have all three of them help this year. She thought it would be a good opportunity for them to learn to work as a team and bond with each other.
Isabela rummaged through her mother’s bags to grab the sugar, butter, and flour as Luisa and Mirabel followed her like little ducklings. While the girls spent most of the year fighting with each other, the holiday season was the one time of the year they would get along better than any other time.
“I’ll read out the instructions for you, and you girls can follow them!” Julieta added on. Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel jumped and cheered as their mother announced they will be making the cookies by themselves with her help.
“I wanna help put the sprinkles on the cookies!” Mirabel exclaimed as she grabbed a chair and moved it to the kitchen counter.
“Everyone’s going to have a chance to put something in the cookie mix, chiquitas,” Julieta replied.
She took out her old recipe book that she used every year for the cookies from the medicine cabinet and placed it on the counter. Mirabel stood on the chair she placed next to the counter and Isabela and Luisa stood next to her.
“So, we need ½ pound of clarified butter, ½ cup of icing sugar, 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract, 2¼ cups of all-purpose flour, and sanding sugar and sprinkles to decorate,” Julieta read once she turned the page to her Polvorosa recipe.
Isabela ran to the cabinet to grab the vanilla extract and Luisa grabbed the sprinkles. They came back to the counter to meet their mother and sister to start baking. Isabela walked up to the recipe book to read the first step.
“Add ½ pound plus 2 tablespoons of butter on a small heavy pot and simmer in low heat until the butter’s completely melted and all the fat content is on the surface. Remove the fat with a spoon and keep the liquid content.”
Isabela grabbed the butter and Julieta helped her find the measurements to cut the butter. Isabela took the butter wrapper and dumped the cut butter into the pot. Julieta turned on the stove to let the butter melt. Once the butter was completely melted, Julieta turned off the stove and Isabela scooped the fat out with a strainer spoon. Luisa made her way to the recipe book to read the next step when Isabela threw out the butter fat.
“Preheat the oven to 177 degrees celsius. Place the butter in a bowl and with the help of a mixer, beat it to medium speed for 2 minutes.”
Julieta set the oven to preheat to the desired temperature and Luisa grabbed the pot to put the butter in a clean bowl. Julieta helped Luisa use the mixer since she still did not know how to use it properly. She was only eleven years old, and the only time she attempted to use the mixer was two years ago when she attempted to make the cookies with Isabela and Dolores unsupervised for Camilo’s gift ceremony. Julieta and Pepa were reasonably angry and made them promise they would not use any cooking appliances without Julieta’s supervision.
Mirabel climbed onto the chair to watch her mother and sister mix the butter into the bowl. She always loved watching her mother cook, and Julieta’s been letting her have a hand in cooking more since her gift ceremony. They have been bonding much better since then, and it has helped Mirabel gain her confidence a little bit more every day. Mirabel read the next step as Luisa and Julieta continued mixing.
“Add the icing sugar and vanilla and continue mixing for 8 minutes. …”
“Decrease,” Julieta whispered to help her six-year-old.
“Decrease the speed to low and add the flour and mix to…”
“Incorporate.”
“Incorporate for 1 minute.”
As Luisa and Julieta continued mixing the butter, Mirabel opened the icing sugar pack and vanilla extract and added it to the bowl. Julieta decreased the speed of the mixer as she and Luisa continued. Mirabel opened the bag of flour and added it to the bowl with Isabela’s help. Julieta and her daughters were working simultaneously on the cookies and she could not be more proud of her girls.
Once the minute was up and the mix turned into cookie dough, Julieta turned off the mixer and Mirabel stepped down from the chair. Isabela walked back to the cookbook to read the next step.
“Form into 2 tablespoon balls and flatten with your hands. Place the decorating sugar on a plate and place the cookies on one side to stick the sugar on them.”
Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel took turns forming the dough into balls and flattening them. Julieta got a plate from the cabinet to put the decorating sugar on. Julieta poured the decorating sugar on the plate as Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel placed the cookies on the baking pan. Once all the cookies were flattened, Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel took turns placing them in the decorating sugar. Luisa read the final step once all the cookies were decorated.
“Place the cookies on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.”
Julieta took the baking pan from the counter and placed it in the oven and set the timer to thirty minutes. She then hugged all three of her daughters at the same time before giving each of them a kiss on the cheeks.
“Why don’t you girls go play upstairs while the cookies bake? I’ll tell you when the cookies are ready.”
“I wanna play in the snow!” Isabela said as she noticed the snow Pepa made that morning was still stuck to the ground.
“Yes! Yes! I wanna play in the snow too!” Mirabel yelled with excitement and Luisa nodded in excitement.
“Okay; you can go play in the snow. I’ll check up on the cookies and we’ll have them for dessert tonight.”
Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel squealed in excitement and went upstairs to get Dolores and Camilo. Julieta could not help but cry seeing her daughters excited about the hours they were going to spend playing in the snow with their cousins. All five of them grabbed their hats and coats and headed outside to play.
------------------------------------------------
Once dinner was over, Julieta went into the kitchen to get the cookies for dessert for the family. There were enough cookies for everyone to have one, and enough to save for Christmas Eve and Day, so everyone grabbed one cookie each. The rest of the family was shocked at how amazing the cookies were. They knew they were good, since Julieta made them every year, but the polvorosas were better this year than they were every previous year.
“Did you add something to the Polvorosas this year, hermana? I remember them being good, but not THIS good,” Pepa said.
“I didn’t add anything to them this year, but I did get some help.” Julieta then looked at her daughters and smiled at them.
“We helped!” Mirabel blurted out as she hugged Isabela and Luisa.
“Well, it’s no wonder they taste better than any other year. You got the best help you could possibly get,” Agustin said as he took another bite.
Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel beamed  and giggled once their father complimented them on a job well done with the cookies. This was also the first time Mirabel felt like she was worth something to her family since her gift ceremony.
Julieta looked at her daughters once more. “I guess I now know who to ask to help me with the Polvorosas every year.”

You know I’m going to be the one who asks about #10: SM Motherhood Reveal🙃🙃
It’s actually perfect that you asked me about this one because it was my goal last year to finish it by September 12th… for some RANDOM reason! But this last year sucked, and that didn’t happen. (Sorry! But you know I love you!!!)
But anyway, this is supposed to be the fourth part of the Tsukino family reveals. And it’s sort’ve a reverse reveal! Where Usagi learns that her mother knows. And they get to talk for… real. (I also have a part five where Ikuko and Kenji get into a fight about it and I think that will conclude the series).
Here’s a snippet:
“Usagi!” Ikuko exclaimed, throwing her arms around the girl the second she returned. Her eyes searching for any sign of injury. “I’m so glad you made it down the mountain trail! When we had to split I was so worried.”
Usagi eyed her mother. “Uh… yeah, it was the long way around. But I got away.”
“Usagi-chan! Are you alright?” Kenji demanded.
“Just scraped up my leg. Mama, maybe you want to take a look?”
Ikuko didn’t answer the question blazing from her daughter’s eyes. She couldn’t. Not in front of her husband and son. “Of course dear. Let’s head to the bathroom.”
“That was so cool!” Shingo was saying.
Ikuko closed the bathroom door, and then every one of her senses was trained on her daughter as she did a more thorough seearch for wounds. “Are you okay? Any injuries?” she asked, not bothering to hide the urgency with which she needed to know.
Usagi ignored the concern. “How long have you known?”
“Almost from the beginning,” Ikuko admitted, her fingers ruffling through hair long golden hair, looking for scrapes or bruises on Usagi’s scalp.
“How?”
“Luna is not as quiet or as subtle as she thinks she is. And I’ve always been a very light sleeper.”
“Why have you never said anything?!” Usagi demanded, pulling away from Ikuko’s reach.
“I always hoped you would tell me one day,” she said softly.

A Preview draft of a Scene:
People bustled around them, unknowing of what calamity might befall them but nevertheless acutely aware of the unrest that laid beneath the city, heralded by footfalls the Sundom’s elite and of the Nora tribe’s unprecedented arrival.
The Savior of Meridian, the people noticed, had headed the Nora’s approach and thus the obvious war party was allowed in by order of the Sun King. The current citizens of Meridian survived under the Mad Ling’s tyrannical rule. They knew war. They knew, despite the lack of a city wide announcement, that violence is about to beat at their walls again and that they’ll have to fight for another Sun Ling.
Meridian’s savior had spoken to the Sun King Avad, entering the palace with a red headed woman who looked exactly like her, had the Savior been twenty years older. The people gossiped, word of the mysterious woman interwoven in between the lines at the market, inflamed by passerby’s who wanted to know everything about their icon’s personal life.
Nightfall saw the two women heading outside, crossing the bridge to a well established tavern known for its outdoor terrace seatings. Try as they might, they could not eavesdrop as the Savior of Meridian had obtained the best seat in the house, isolated by plants of differing colors and species.
- break -
“So… Avad.”
Aloy groaned, ears burning but eyes quietly pained.
“He’s interested in you.” Elisabet smiles, eyes soft.
“I know… he’s a good man. A good king. It’s just-“
“You don’t want to be tied to that.”
Aloy nods.
“He’s… not my type. I don’t think anyone is, I don’t know. I’ve rejected him already, but…”
“He needs to get a hint?”
“Yeah.” Aloy grimaces. The tavern server serves their drinks, shooting an starry-eyed look at the younger redhead. Aloy deepens her grimace and takes a long drag of her mead, the warm, sweet drink doing wonders for her fraying patience.
