can you talk about moss poaching i'm actually really curious
How can I refuse! Absolutely!!! It sounds kind of ridiculous, but it's actually very sad.
So, let's start off with some numbers. Every year, the moss black market is estimated to garner up to $165 million for trafficking approximately 82 million pounds of moss.
I cannot even wrap my mind around how much moss that is.
You might ask, why does moss poaching exist and why is it so lucrative? Well, the quality that has made mosses the prey of an illegal trade is simply their aesthetic appeal. Soft, velvety, and moist, mosses are extremely pleasant to the touch and calming to look at. Some people are willing to pay large amounts of money to collect them and put them in private gardens. However, most of the mosses that move in this underground black market are actually sold to companies/wholesalers for use in potting/gardening soil, plant nurseries, decor, and as craft materials. The majority of the preserved mosses in your run-of-the-mill chain craft store, planters, floral wreaths, or very-much-dead living wall decorations are gathered illegally, bleached to death, and then dyed green. This goes for a lot of prepackaged peat moss and soil mix blends as well.
Even though it is illegal to gather moss in public places (in the US, at least), people still harvest it. Why? Probably because there's a fair amount of money to be made and the consequences are very rarely enforced, and when they are, they are quite light--usually a $50 fine at worst if you're caught. Most of this black market moss is actually poached from the national park system, with Appalachia and the Pacific Northwest usually being the hardest hit regions.
Mosses play vital roles in many ecosystems, provide homes for threatened species, regulate water distribution in forests, and help with erosion, so their loss is a terrible blow. Additionally, moving such large quantities of mosses from one location to another may spread unwanted, invasive hitchhikers, like insects that lay their eggs in the plants, or even seeds and spores.
I'll end on this thought:
It can take 20 years for a small patch of moss removed from a fallen tree to grow back with the right moisture conditions.
How long would it take to regrow 82 million pounds?

I know they didn’t share much screentime together but Noelle and Ralsei’s relationship is so funny to me in theory because both of them are very polite to the point at which they just roll with certain situations because it would be rude not to.

i’ve also been trying to not be super negative but the big sad is also hitting me tonight. like i LOVED q, his dsmp character is one of my favorite characters from anything ever, i had on multiple different occasions called him the funniest mfer on the planet, i bought so much stupid las nevadas merch and now it’s just like. MAN. it would hurt less atp if he just straight up said he hated the dteam now like this is just torturous and sad and i do not get it. i know time keeps marchin on and things will heal etc but it still sucks. there’s a little part of me that wishes he would have an epiphany or something and just apologize and explain everything but as it goes on it just feels like that’s not gonna happen :( sorry abt the rant but like. big fun?👀 (for the wip game)
hehehe so Big Fun is the third part of my high school dnn series, High School Sweethearts. the title is taken from the song "Big Fun" from Heathers: The Musical and is about dteam hosting a halloween party!
the motivation for this fic was to take the way the fandom handles people who disrespect their faves and apply it to a high school drama setting. i started writing this last year but uh it's become strangely topical lol
“Oh, you’re about to get muffined!” George declares, bursting the door off its hinges with a gleeful hop.
“Oh fuck,” Tommy murmurs. Because storming in after him is none other than a pissed off Dream.
“You got a problem or something?” comes Dream’s booming voice. From his outward appearance, he doesn’t look too threatening, not like Sapnap does when he’s mad. No, it’s all in the lifted eyebrows and warning stare that reads “just you try.” It doesn’t help that he towers over him, Tommy’s shoulder width half of his.
“Get his ass, Dream,” George says to egg him on.
“Not with you!” Tommy tries to holler back, puffing up his chest to appear bigger than he feels in the face of Dream’s anger.
“No,” Dream responds in agreement, stalking forward. “But with Sapnap.”
Tommy glances beyond his shoulder, trying to spot if the third of their little throuple followed them inside. Unfortunately, he has. He’s stood next to George, both of them leaning up against the shut door with their arms crossed over their chests.
Tommy hates the way George is smiling at him.
“I thought you would’ve figured out by now that messing with one of my friends means messing with me,” Dream continues to snap with a placated sort of refinement, getting so close as to spit in his face. “No, messing with one of my friends is much worse than messing with me.”

That's quite a lot. I actually have not heard mangosteen or rambutan before. Some of these are not super widely available where I live, though. I know what a loganberry is, but I have never seen one being sold. Maybe I need to go to farmers markets again (but crowds of people and sunlight...)
I don't know what the unnamed not-pear is or the not-mangosteen is. There are pears that don't look like traditional pear shapes (Asian pears, for example), but they are still pears.
I am curious if you were just listing or if you went in a particular order? When I mentioned that I shouldn't be allowed to mention fruit I like, I mostly meant my top favorite fruits. (Which I'm actually weirdly specific if I'm asked about my favorite fruit. It's mango - but specifically honey/yellow mango because it's the superior mango and pomegranate is a close second, so I feel like it's unfair to lump all mangos into the top spot when, yeah all mangos are good, but the honey mango does the heavy lifting in the favorite position. I can't do pomegranate dirty like that. The poor fruit has such a short season for me to treat it like that).
My favorite fruits tend to have romantic or erotic associations/symbolism. (I accidentally have slutty tastes, I guess?) I just get into using them in writing: the sweetness, the color, the seasonality, the ability to stain. . . I enjoy using food in writing in general, I think. My brain just gets a kick out of adding it into writing. It adds a bit of spice (pardon the pun - or pun adjacent since spices aren't technically food, and the double entendre for when I write about food in smut)

kinda funny (and sad) to me how "gender is not clothes, personality and expression" and "women should be considered women no matter how masculine they are" are BOTH terf and trans arguments
like so often I see terfs bring out why they say they exclude trans people and it's either just straight up untrue OR it's things that are very strongly supported and defended within the trans community, just apparently not in the "visible surface" parts of it, or just the parts terfs see.

my favorite people are the ones who are like "it is morally indefensible to be following the depp heard case" (which, by itself, fine) but then also make completely inaccurate yet incredibly confident declarations about the facts of the case that they would know to be untrue if they consumed any amount of information about it

Heyy guess who just started rethinking their position on pros/antis?
Yeah just a disclaimer I considered myself to be an anti up until recently. I was never pro-harassment though, and I hadn’t heard about all that antis had done. I guess I never gave it much thought.
I did, and still do believe that certain ships should have content warnings, like incest and abusive ships, though idk if that’s really an anti belief?
Honestly I’ve seen a lot of proshippers hold beliefs that I’ve always had, but I still can’t help but feel a little attacked when people make blanket statements about antis.
I just needed somewhere to talk about this ig.
