I don’t think I have any? It’s so hard to trigger me. I guess what annoys me is when characters become ooc for plot convenience, which is something that I avoid at all costs. Character are more important than plots, usually.

BOOK REVIEW: RICHARD JAMES SAVILE ROW

As Troy McClure said about playing the human in a musical adaptation of Planet of the Apes, reviewing this book is “the role I was born to play!”

Simply entitled Richard James: Savile Row, this book commemorates the 25th anniversary in Savile Row of the fashion house and tailors of the same name.  A read is somewhat disappointing, full of short essays by what amounts to a rather incestuous school of longtime Richard James fans in British media and entertainment, among them British GQ’s Dylan Jones and Richard’s most notorious client, Elton John.

Elton’s known as a voracious devotee – to not say addict – of his favorite outfitters over the decades, buying out entire shopfloors at times.  His twenty-year devotion to Richard James is a key to understanding Richard James’ enormous if unrecognized positive influence on contemporary men’s clothing and British tailoring. Forty years ago Elton dressed head-to-toe in psychedelic Tommy Nutter, switching in the 1980s to over-the-top Gianni Versace glitz.  Since the end of the 1990s, he’s evangelized Richard James.

Tommy Nutter, the last tailor-designer in Savile Row, dominated British men’s tailoring in the 1970s.  Custom tailoring took a back seat to the cult of the ready-to-wear designer, mostly the Continentals: Pierre Cardin, then Armani and Versace.  Nutter had a few isolated 1980s hits, like dressing the Joker in 1989’s Batman, before dying in 1992.

What had become of the British? 1980s attitudes towards luxury and clothing meant regression, selling an image of Britain as Raj, pith helmets, and gin among palm trees, not progress. Ralph Lauren did a much better job selling that ethos in his more expensive lines than any of the British could.  Some tried; those of us of a certain age (me) remember seeing cashmere sweaters made in China sold in Bloomingdales under the label of Savile Row tailor Gieves & Hawkes, or blocky ready-to-wear suits at Barneys sold with the name of Savile Row tailor Kilgour, French & Stanbury, although made in Canada by Samuelson.  An ersatz Britishness for export markets, an ersatz image and look created by ready-to-wear licensees with little input from the British tailors desperately trying to sell their names abroad.

Into this breach came Richard James. Like Nutter, James is categorically not a trained tailor.  What he is, though, is an inspired designer who, since opening on Savile Row, has offered true custom tailoring as well as ready-to-wear in visionary designs.  I remember the first Richard James items I noticed, beautiful belts and wallets of gorgeous quality hand stitched in England with contrasting linings in deeply saturated color.  I still have one of those belts, in all its magnificence.  What did they have to do with British custom tailoring?  Nothing – and everything. For the first time a Savile Row name appeared to be doing something relevant, interesting and elegant – and doing it to the fullest extent and the last detail. Savile Row survives by its export markets and by the reputation its tailors have forged for beautiful items of a certain Britishness.  No more uninspired licensed items that has as much to do with British elegance as a Sterling car (derided by Consumer Reports for “Industrial Revolution-era” English technology, remember those?). What Richard James has done is modernize British elegance from the creepy colonial-obsessed ethos that today only blinkered Brexiteer bluestockings and Internet edgelords cling to.  Even the past James references uses other, more inspired touchstones of British greatness, including his bespoke offer (initially serviced by the Savile Row tailors Anthony J. Hewitt and James Levett before being brought in-house), but also ready-to-wear shirts in stripes that recalled the best of Swinging London; handmade ties whose lush, delicate patterns rivalled the best of midcentury Sulka or today’s Charvet; magnificently, decadently warm alpaca pile ‘teddy bear” coats originally created for 1920s motorists; astonishingly soft leather or suede jackets in the café racer style 1960s London Mods would have died for; and even the made-to-order cashmere socks with custom monograms Corgi used to make for defunct shops of yesteryear like the custom shirtmaker Beale & Inman.  It was a vision of Britishness far, far from Lauren’s fantasies, a Britishness that admitted the turmoil of Ted Heath’s premiership, that added much-needed glamor after John Major’s greyness.  And James reminded us what was wonderful about the British suit by invoking all that was dashing in its cut.  Ready-to-wear suits were made in beautiful cloths from British mills like the impeccable Taylor & Lodge, in unexpectedly evocative colors and patterns: sharp mohair sharkskin, gorgeously patterned real Scottish or Irish tweeds or a French navy that was lighter than the normal shade; even rainbow chalkstripes on a sober dark ground.  The cut was always tapered at the waist, double-vented, slant pocketed in the “hacking” style, a look espoused by Patrick Macnee’s subversively too-British John Steed in the 1960s.  Richard’s linings were often boldly colorful, to remind us what could be playful about the suit, everything that 1980s pretention (clinging to all the trimmings of colonial oppression) had repressed.

Richard James the book shines in cataloguing those designs in beautiful detail.  James really has been the best colorist in the business, as Jones termed him.  Even more importantly, this book also shows how James has aced the tricky game of tennis without a net of innovating within the classic: in addition to recreating ruffle-fronted tuxedo shirts like those of George Lazenby’s louche Bond in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, James also invented tuxedo shirts whose fronts (instead of pleats or stiff waffle-weave Marcella) were hand-beaded by Hand & Lock, beaders and embroiderers to Her Majesty the Queen; Corgi (knitters and hosiers to the Prince of Wales) knitted thick, thick cashmere sweaters with hand-inlaid abstract intarsia designs; elegant cufflinks (always double-sided) recalled childhood marbles in the forms of hand-blown translucent glass or semiprecious banded agate (a real “Aggie”) or amber set in sterling silver; and even a travel bag that recalled the bags given away by Pan Am or Concorde in the early days of jet travel was rendered in ballistic nylon with reflective silver piping and brilliantly contrasting linings.

I’ve never owned a Richard James bespoke suit.  I know that his ready-to-wear suits were disappointingly half-canvassed or fused, despite their wonderful materials.  But they helped remind me that Savile Row could still be relevant, and that those tailors, despite past reputation, could be approachable and contemporary – and that has been my experience with the other tailors of Savile Row, including the impeccable, evocatively named Steed, whom I loved for their name before ever using them.

Every item with the Richard James name carried and carries the same visionary, whimsical design philosophy, a Britishness less fanciful and more romantic than Paul Smith’s, and far less caricatural and cynical than those of Ralph Lauren or Hackett.  Socks, always made to a high-standard by Pantherella, are accented in amusing contrast colors or mad patterns. I have a number that are doing fine almost 20 years later.  My Richard James Concorde bag has been a beloved, perfect gym bag for years, while his larger, tougher Japanese denim bag (trimmed in the best British bridle hide) is my go-to travel holdall no matter where on Earth I go. My beaded Richard James tux shirt is a prized piece of design genius, as is a magnificently waterproof raincoat made for him by Mackintosh in a beige twill that cunningly iridesces turquoise or orange from certain angles. For years I’ve searched for the same shade of gorgeous Thomas Mason turquoise twill cotton that an old Richard James shirt is in, but most of his materials are specially made for his designs; even the fine-gauge cotton knits that John Smedley or Peter Geeson created for him seemed to be in special colors and to his own patterns.

That wealth, that treasury of a vision and genius, tumbles out of Richard James’ new book, pictures that really are worth thousands of words and that speak for themselves about the importance of this designer’s contribution, reminding us that Savile Row, indeed British menswear itself, still had things of wonder to offer us.

I view myself as very chaotic, bustling with energy, and a bit too friendly (it can make me gulliable or a bit afraid to conflict with others at times, but overall I’m confident in saying whatever.) I have adhd and the hyperness shows a bit, I also have no shame / dignity when it comes to making jokes (either puns, pick up lines or sexual). I am the type to make a chaotic joke in front of others just to see their reactions. I also am a bit spontaneous, I sometimes make animal noises randomly as a joke or greet people with a “rawr” to see how they react, and I am very goofy and love cute or sleepy speech, over using emoticons and owo when I text or the phrase nom nom.

I’m also however known as the mom or big sister friend of my group, I’m very bubbly and the type to bring snacks, and I constantly love spam or dote on my friends. I tend to go out of my way to cheer people up, doing anything and everything I can for them. I probably am a bit eccentric and extra lol, I just love supporting and gifting stuff to people. I absolutely love to tease my friends, this goes into my love for seeing people’s reactions. Often times I can be a bit too excited to be around them or mess with them though. It also makes me ramble a lot. They also are a bit worried because I can be a bit oblivious sometimes, lacking in life smarts and also being a platonic flirt who can never notice when people like me. I’m a bit clumsy too, and very dorky. I’m known as the token nerd because I am very very sweet and smart, I honestly am the biggest nerd I know as I love all subjects in school, especially Calculus and Literature. I get very excited when it comes to learning new topics or finishing my work. I also write, like a bunch. Poetry, short stories, essays, news articles, you name it! I’m also a journalist and take honesty and trust very seriously, and I inspire to be the things I admire in my friends. I’m also very cuddly, like extremely cuddly. Especially with my best friends or crush! Oh, and I am a wlw and a huge simp for my crushes.

I have a lot of interests, so much so that it’s hard to say what my favorite is! Besides writing, I love to draw and listen to music, game with my friends, play sports, dance, and do research. I am comfortable with myself and goals for my future, knowing I want to go into either the engineering field or the communications field. There is just so much I want to know and do, and I am very competitive so I always try my best. I also love doing sports like football, soccer, hockey and swimming, but at the same time I would take pizza, doughnuts, and dancing to some edgy music any day over it lol. My music taste ranges from musicals to what gives me gay vibes to a more sad vibe like Jeremy Zucker to even edgy with Set it off and Get Scared.

I also tend to overthink or really regret stuff, like a lot, and I have major anxiety that sometimes affects my health. But I move on both thanks to being open with my friends and to protect my friends. They are very important to me and I will do anything for them. I’m also a huge extrovert, the only one in my friend group actually, so I tend to help out with a bunch of stuff already!

Ibuki Mioda

Firstly I thought of Ibuki Mioda, Ibuki is very up beat and has so much energy in which she can be sorta chaotic as well. She's also pretty confident with speaking and doesn't really think through it before she does even if it may be inappropriate. She seems to be pretty confident and hyper as well. I think Ibuki would be the type of person to make animal noises and say "nom nom" due to her saying "good nom nom nomming". She's pretty bubbly and would definitely be engaged with her friends and making sure they're doing alright and taking care of themselves. She also would probably show a lot of love and affection. She tends to forget things quite easily which could play into her possibly being more oblivious. Due to her passion for music she might have some sort of interest in writing, mainly for lyrics though. She's also definitely more extroverted, possibly focusing on other people and things to forget her own problems.

Kazuichi Souda

Secondly I thought of Kazuichi Souda, Kazuichi can tend to be a little more hyper and or chaotic. He doesn't seem to have a filter for what he says sometimes and doesn't seem to be embarrassed by it easily. He does seem to care about people due to helping Akane when Nekomaru died by giving her a mechanical doll of him. He tends to be slightly more flirty and cling onto people he likes like he seems to do with Sonia in the game. Kazuichi is also a mechanic, due to you thinking about going into the engineering field I feel like this fits in. He also seems to get frightened pretty easily.

Ryota Minitari

Lastly I thought of Ryota Minitari, Ryota is a little more on the shy side though he can know what to say and when. Especially if it ends up helping someone out. You could say he's a mom-type friend in some way due to feeling the desire to help people out. He's also against violence and doesn't care for conflicting much either. I think he'd overthink about a lot of things, especially if he does something he regrets. He's also pretty anxious as well.

Gin Ibushi

Firstly I thought of Gin Ibushi, Gin is definitely full of energy and overly friendly as well. He's also pretty gullible if you ask me and would rather choose to avoid conflicts. He can also tend to be more hyper. Like you saying "rawr" Gin tends to say "meow" or "woof" quite a lot which cloud also tie into you making animal noises. He also likes to try and cheer people up if he can and be more cuddly or clingy to people he's grown to trust.

Joe Tazuna

Secondly I thought of Joe Tazuna, Joe definently more upbeat and as a considerable amount of energy. He's also quite loyal and would do just about anything for his friends. He likes to try and make sure they're doing alright and taking care of themselves. It's also not awfully hard for him to sympathize with people. He also tends to say things or joke around at the wrong time.

Lastly I thought of Reko Yabusame, Reko is pretty friendly to others for the most part she also takes on the more "motherly" role to those she cares about. She'll do what she can to help her friends when they need it. She's also really into music.

Denki Kaminari

Firstly I thought of Denki Kaminari, Denki is usually pretty energetic and isn't afraid to joke around with others at all. Though he may go a little too far sometimes. He's also pretty friendly as well. It could also be possible Denki may have adhd and he also has anxiety I'm pretty sure. He also may not be the smartest sometimes, but he can know what to say and how to help others when they need it and will definitely try his best to help those in need. He also seems to know a bit about music, art, and literature.

Mina Ashido

Secondly I thought of Mina Ashido, Mina definitely has a lot of energy and is pretty outgoing and bubbly, she's also pretty friendly. She also seems to like dancing pretty well. Mina tries her best to help others, especially her friends.

Momo Yaoyorozu

Lastly I thought of Momo Yaoyorozu, Momo is usually pretty friendly. She could also probably be seen as the mom friend of the group due to helping them quite a lot. Like when she helps some of the other students study. Along with this she's pretty smart academically. When normally she can be seen as somewhat confident she can also be pretty doubtful in herself and tends to focus on past things a lot.

though hiyoko saionji is a close second. i’m gonna keep this short cause waah. i’ve got some burnout going on... (╥_╥) so sorry anon. umm mikan is definitely quiet and shy around new people, she struggles with speaking up and in general is rather jumpy when you talk to her. i kind of get that vibe from you too?? the jumpiness?? umm and she does definitely get louder/more comfortable around her friends. while it’s a bit literal of me to say her... screaming... is her being louder, i think it does count to an extent? because i think that a lot of more nervous people still have that timid trait even when they are more comfortable with people in a conversation.  also, i do think mikan is clingy- to a somewhat toxic rate that maybe you don’t relate to- but still. it goes to the point where she ponders if she should render hajime as an invalid, just so she can have him all to herself. i don’t think you’d go that far, but. that can also be labelled as jealous, since she is rather attached to other people and doesn’t really want to see them go. while i don’t really think she makes fun of her friends per say, she definitely doesn’t want to be ignored and i think that humour can come into this ,,! i think that while she likes people, she’s not a big fan of being around too many. she is very paranoid and i think that lots of people to focus on can be overwhelming,, also i’d agree that she doesn’t really think she deserves compliments. she may be thankful when she’s in a.. better mood to receive compliments? since she does have a deep seeded want for approval .. but most of the time i feel like she’d doubt someone’s compliment or just brush it off.

gin ibushi is a close second, though .. sso, like mikan, i got a similar vibe from ur ask to her ... she’s more timid around sara and the others when she doesn’t know them- even with professor mishima around, she’s not very willing to talk or open up at first. she’s not as quiet as kanna, but definitely isn’t the first to offer up information about herself. being closer to him, she sticks to mishima very closely at the beginning of yttd. while i think it’s a fairly universal experience, maybe you’re the type to stay in your friend’s line of sight in an unfamiliar environment. plus, that ties into you saying you’re not a big fan of too many other people ! she can even be aggressive towards the others at first, being very defensive over the professor’s pride and reputation. maybe you also don’t like it when your friends are slandered, and get openly frustrated about it.. oh, also, i don’t really think she likes compliments too much.. her ability to vividly remember scenes with her eyesight is obviously fantastic, but she doesn’t seem very confident in or proud of it. i think she’s definitely clingy- she stays very close to mishima at the beginning of the game, and even when he’s gone she clings to people like sara and reko. i think that nao could also get jealous if someone like mishima or reko, who she had a very close bond with, hang out with other people instead of her- especially if it feels intentional. maybe the two of you would kind of see it as... a sort of betrayal? sorry, that’s just a guess haha. but still ..

Bleach, From Pilot to Ch. 423: Things I Forgot Or Were Excluded From The Anime

Turns out I had forgotten a lot of things tho they might not seem that important. Anyway, the list is long so I’ll keep it under the cut. It’s a bit messy but I was just writing it as I was reading and then I somehow expected myself to remember what I was talking about. Posting it for anybody else who could use the reminder.

Please keep in mind that I’m pretty sure the translation I was reading wasn’t a 100% correct but I couldn’t be bothered to find a better one. Seems like it improved later on but I’d still take it with a grain of salt. (Like I’m pretty sure this translator couldn’t read hiragana properly, and some names were really messed up.)

- I did not know there was a pilot chapter so yeah... that entire thing I guess. - Orihime being that open about her crush from the beginning - Orihime’s parents being such cruel people - Orihime’s hairpins being a gift from Sora - The backstory of the mod souls - Chad’s crazy about cute things - Keigo is from Naruki City, not Karakura - Mizuiro being really popular with girls - Renji and Byakuya with weird hoods, idk if that was part of the anime and so far there’s been a part from the anime that wasn’t in the manga (The part with Ichigo seeing Rukia fight a hollow in town before she comes into his room) - Orihime is bad with electronics - Ishida is poor - Tatsuki told Orihime that she is probably at the level of a black belt in karate (I don’t know if she was honest about that but she said it) - Orihime is really dang smart - I forgot Nemu was technically Mayuri’s daughter -Also Mayuri is awful, he belongs in worst dad club with Isshin (I also didn’t remember Isshin being SUCH a creep but I guess I forgot to write that earlier. Or I just decided not to since reviewing this list afterwards I realize I left some other creepy things out.) - Mayuri can turn into liquid - Zanpakutou Materializing Dolls, and other artefacts. So many artefacts. Never to be mentioned or used ever again. - Kira feeling super guilty over raising a sword at Hinamori. - Orihime just chilling with Yachiru, Ikkaku, and Yumichika after the was separated from Uryuu. Oh and Zaraki’s there too. - Hisagi having been accepted as a shinigami before he passed the exams, expected to become a seated officer - Rukia idolised Kaien’s wife - That Komamura was that loyal to Yamamoto - I remember Kenpachi fighting Komamura and Tousen, not picking a fight with Komamura, Tousen, Iba, and Hisagi. Neither did I remember Ikkaku and Yumichika joining in, it’s just entirely gone from my memory - Byakuya’s scarf is a really expensive heirloom. - Byakuya was really cold in the beginning, supposedly not caring about his subordinates (idk if he really changed later on but this stood out to me in the moment. Also speaking of Byakuya, I think he seemed older to me when watching the anime because of the voice.) - Really I had forgotten a lot about the animosity between Byakuya and Renji - Rukia doesn’t refer to Gin as “Captain Ichimaru” and he doesn’t mind since they’ve “known eachother for so long”. Apparently she’s deathly afraid of him. - Kaname got his zanpakutou from the grave of the lady he liked? I’ve always wondered how people get their zanpakutous anyway ‘cause I don’t think Zaraki had any training and I’m pretty sure it’s the same sword he had when he met Yachiru, yet Zangetsu comments on how the sword is crying. (I’m also curious about if people could potentially wield other zanpakutous, which I think is a thing in the quincy arc but I’m talking like... normal people. I think it’d be neat since there’s already two people that have just... picked up a zanpakutou before they even became shinigamis.) - Rikichi! He’s such a big fan of Renji! He got Hanatarou out of jail just to help Renji. He didn’t only get him a new uniform but also a hair tie and a bandana. I’m a little sad that he never seems to show up ever again? (At least I don’t remember him being in the quincy arc but that’ll have to be it’s own list I guess) - Ukitake and Kyouraku stopping and destroying Soukyoku - Kiyone calling Isane sister. - Soifon getting ready to take out Kiyone and the other vice-captain. - Kyouraku being praised for being the best at seeing the true character of anyone he meets, and Ukitake always being the centre of a crowd although (frail, but affable and kind) - Yamamoto thinking of Ukitake and Kyouraku as sons - Katen Kyoukotsu and Sogyo no Kotowari are the only zanpakutous that exist in pairs (allegedly) (I don’t remember why I wrote allegedly but I had some thought behind it......) - Soi Fong’s name was Shaolin Fong until she inherited her grandmother’s code name. - Soi Fong not being angry with Yoruichi because she ran away, but because she didn’t take her with her - Iba having been part of the 11th division, but becoming Komamura’s vice-captain (supposedly for his mom) - Iba wanting to get a chance to fight Ichigo - Byakuya only showing Senkei Senbonzakura Kageyoshi to people he wants to kill personally, Ichigo being the second person. I can’t recall if the first person was ever revealed? - Kira going along with the scheme and leading away Hitsugaya and Matsumoto from the Central 46 chambers. He was told they wouldn’t do anything to Hinamori - Hinamori joined the Gotei 13 because she admired Aizen, which would imply she met him before the soul burial training accident, but idk if that’s a translation mistake - Unohana confronting Aizen in the Central 46 chambers and calling him a treacherous reprobate - How Kyoka Suigetsu works. I forgot that for it to work on someone they need to see the release, and that after that the person who saw it will be completely hypnotised every time he releases it from then on. - Aizen was certain that he could use all three of Kira, Hinamori, and Renji back when they first met, but Renji was problematic so he was sent on to squad 11 while Kira and Hinamori were made Aizen and Gin’s vice-captains - Ichigo and Renji trying to fight Aizen together - Ichigo being a fucking monster! Who stays conscious after having their stomach cut open like that? In the anime it was just a really bad slash but since the manga is a but more graphic I’m only now like “oh wow that is really fucking bad” - There were names for the four basic types of combat for shinigamis. Zanjutsu(sword skills), Hakuda(hand-to-hand combat), Hohou(foot work), and Kidou. - Hollowfication is brought up this early, but I guess it makes sense because he’s explaining the Hougyoku. - Urahara, not Aizen, hid the Hougyoku inside Rukia. - Urahara was exiled for creating an intractable gigai? I don’t think so Aizen, but okay. Also he was trying to turn Rukia into a human soul. Hm. - Komamura coming in to destroy Aizen mid-monologue. Thank you. (After reading Ichigo’s last fight with Aizen I am so tired of him talking aaahhhhh!) - All the gate guardians except for Jidanbou are traitors, Kuukaku shows up with Jidanbou (was this in the anime???) - I remember Ichigo hanging out with squad 11 after the whole Aizen thing, but I did not remember Iba being there too which is nice. They didn’t get to spar tho. - Matsumoto and Kira getting drunk and venting about Gin, though it’s portrayed pretty comically. Matsumoto proceeds to invite pretty much anyone who passes by, except for Kyouraku. - Ryuuken is part of the shitty dad club. - Shinigami Isshin was revealed pretty much right after Shinji, I didn’t remember it being so early. - Also I didn’t remember the protection charm either but hey it worked. - Did- Did Orihime really only get to use Tsubaki ONCE?? - Also that entire fight with Yammy and Ulquiorra is just so much bloodier than in the anime - That moment when Ichigo tells Chad to leave D.Roy to him and Chad runs away, that hurt, ow my heart - Keigo being there to watch Ikkaku fight Eduardo. Also Keigo having a chat with Yumichika. - Ikkaku losing his molars in the fight with Eduardo is. - Yumichika going “oh and btw, make preparations for Ikkaku’s funeral” - Flashback about Ikkaku fighting Zaraki in the past. - Ikkaku being determined to fight and die under Kenpachi’s command. - Ururu kicking Ilfordt in the face- I mean Ururu going in to exterminate Ilfordt. - References to Toshirou’s bankai being incomplete. - Shawlong being the first arrancar to be created. (Allegedly? Supposedly? Succesfully? It depends on a lot, it’s a bit of an assumption.) - The power limit that is placed on captains and vice-captains when they go to the world of the living is symbolised by the division’s symbol. Oh and it takes away 80% of their power. Motherfucking damn bitch Ikkaku. Also good job Rukia. (I don’t remember what these last two sentences are refering to tbh) - Tatsuki watching the fight (I’m assuming the first) between Ichigo and Grimmjow, or at least part of it. - I guess I forgot to mention this earlier but Orihime being jealous of Rukia and her relationship with Ichigo - Tousen really not liking Grimmjow because he causes discord - Ichigo trying the beat the answers out of the Vaizards. - Goddamn Ichigo has a lot of attitude. - Urahara telling Orihime that she would be a burden in battle and Rukia talking to her afterwards. Orihime and Rukia need more talks. - Orihime getting kidnapped by Hiyori. - Hachi having similar abilities as Orihime. - Hachi also suggesting against Orihime fighting the war. - Orihime being so determined to fight. Goddamn I wish Tsubaki wasn’t her only way of doing damage. Give her one of those funky artefacts for fuck’s sake. - Yumichika not getting along with “Fujikujaku”. - The trees in Hueco Mundo are made of something quartz-like - Ulquiorra complimenting Orihime on her looks (Tbh I’ve forgotten about this scene again but I don’t think I intended to lie to my future self so I’m assuming it might’ve been something vague) - Orihime planning to reject the Hougyouku with her powers to destroy it, why don’t I see more about that?? - Wonderweiss being fond of Tousen. - Szayel sending out the execution squad after Dordoni - Only Grimmjow ever uses Gran Rey Cero (Idk if I ever really thought otherwise but it’s on the list so I guess it’s a confirmation I wanted to make) - Tesla threatening to destroy the Shun Shun Rikka - Nnoitra using Nel as a shield when Ichigo attacks at one point - Nnoitra and Neliel didn’t even fight after he tore off Dondochakka and Pesche’s masks in the flashback wtf. Now that I think of it, I’ve never seen manga screenshots of that part so I guess it’s only in the anime. Well that’s disappointing. Then what did Szayel even do? (Still sad they don’t fight more in the manga, bluh. Also I’m still not sure what Szayel actually did.) - Nnoitra thinking it a shame that they (him and Neliel I think) won’t get to fight again. - Mayuri observing Uryuu through bacteria, and Uryuu calling him out for violating human rights - Szayel rebirthing himself from Nemu, wtf. I’m not sure if that was in the anime. (Okay it was, she just didn’t get straight-up pregnant) - I also forgot about Szayel taking over Konjiki Ashisogi Jizou - The Jesus Szayel and Baphomet Mayuri chapter pages were new to me - Mayuri to Nemu: “Good job, keep suffocating Uryuu with your tiddies. If he dies, he dies.” - Nnoitra, after releasing Santa Teresa: “Kinda sexy, isn’t it?” (I don’t trust this translation a 100% but what was written was “I look sexy, right?”) - And Zaraki responding with “your reiatsu is making me hard…” - The Living World as seen through the Garganta in Las Noches is upside-down - Hikifune and the Royal Guard being mentioned during Turn Back The Pendulum - Hiyori looking up to Hikifune as a mother - Urahara being Commander of the Detention Unit in the 2nd Division, and the unit keeping people who wanted to withdraw from the Gotei 13, not just criminals. - Urahara making Mayuri his Vice Captain in the research institute - Barragan’s fraccions having packed together his throne and brought it with them - I can’t believe Charlotte’s magical girl scene was only in the anime but I suppose it makes sense - Hisagi’s fight with Findor  was also shorter in the manga which is… kind of a shame? Idk it was pretty well made in the anime, but I guess it’s because they were just coming back from a break and all. - Hisagi and Kira stopping Yumichika from rushing in after Ikkaku was beaten, Komamura stepping in to take care of the arrancar… whose name I’ve already forgotten once again. - Iba calling Ikkaku out for not using his bankai and punching him in the face. Good. I like Ikkaku but the pillar did get destroyed because of him so it was a pretty bad move. - Hinamori making a kidou net - Kira used to be in the 4th division, did I already write that? - The Gran Rey Cero being forbidden to use inside of Las Noches but leave it to Grimmjow not to care about any of that - Kyouka Suigetsu’s ability can be cancelled by grabbing the blade. - They sent Aizen to Avici, or I guess a prison named after Avici - Yamamoto scolding Byakuya, Shunsui, and Kenpachi for losing their captain’s haori and they proceed to insult it - They actually mention Mayuri going back to Hueco Mundo

     Five Moments That Mattered in the Impeachment Hearing        

A new claim emerges as Democrats and Republicans take their lanes in the first day of public hearings

Wednesday’s impeachment hearing featuring testimony from two career diplomats offered a significant new revelation and several insights into the circumstances surrounding President Trump’s July 25 call with then newly inaugurated Ukrainian President      Volodymyr Zelensky.       The hearing also offered a taste of how Democrats and Republicans intend to proceed now that the inquiry has shifted into its public phase.

Here were the moments that mattered most:

‘Trump cares more about the investigations of Biden’

A new claim—and likely a new witness—emerged Wednesday, as Bill Taylor, the acting ambassador to Ukraine, testified that one of his staff members overheard a phone call in which President Trump allegedly said that he cared more about investigations into former Vice President      Joe Biden       and his son, Hunter, than he did about Ukraine.

At the conclusion of his 20-page opening statement, Mr. Taylor said he recently learned that an aide overheard a phone conversation between Mr. Trump and      Gordon Sondland,       the ambassador to the European Union, about investigations Mr. Trump wanted Ukraine to pursue.

Mr. Taylor said that on July 26, a day after Mr. Trump asked Ukraine President Zelensky in a phone call to undertake investigations of the Bidens and the 2016 election, Mr. Sondland called the president to update him on his meetings in Kyiv. In that call, Mr. Trump asked the ambassador—who had met with Mr. Zelensky that day—about “the investigations,” to which Mr. Sondland replied that the Ukrainians were “ready to move forward,” Mr. Taylor testified.

Mr. Taylor said he was alerted about the conversation by a member of his staff who was with Mr. Sondland during the call. He didn’t identify the aide, but a person familiar with the matter said it was      David Holmes,       a State Department official whom Democrats on Wednesday asked to appear for a closed-door deposition on Friday.

“Following the call with President Trump, the member of my staff asked Ambassador Sondland what President Trump thought about Ukraine,” Mr. Taylor said. “Ambassador Sondland responded that President Trump cares more about the investigations of Biden, which Giuliani was pressing for,” referring to the president’s personal attorney,  Rudy Giuliani.      

Mr. Taylor’s testimony provides an additional link between Mr. Trump and a pressure campaign on Ukraine beyond what was previously known.

Rep. Devin Nunes,   the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, telegraphed in his opening statement that his party intends to stand behind Mr. Trump and will continue to accuse Democrats of leading a partisan investigation designed to undo the results of the 2016 election.

Calling the day’s proceedings “a low-rent Ukrainian sequel” to former special co unsel  Robert Mueller’s  investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, Mr. Nunes and other Republican questioners suggested that Mr. Trump would be justified to think Ukraine had sought to undermine his candidacy in 2016.

Mr. Nunes laid out his vision of what is occurring in the impeachment inquiry: First, he argued that Democrats were disappointed by the results of the Russia investigation and have pivoted to the Ukraine probe. Second, Mr. Nunes accused Democrats of collaborating with the bureaucracy and the media to advance the Ukraine story. Third, Mr. Nunes complained about the process that Democrats have used in the impeachment investigation.

‘President Trump is welcome to take a seat right there’

Republicans complained that the witnesses who appeared Wednesday didn’t have direct, firsthand knowledge of Mr. Trump’s conduct. In response, Democrats noted that the Trump administration is preventing several witnesses from testifying.

Rep. Jim Jordan,    an Ohio Republican and vocal defender of Mr. Trump, accused Democrats of protecting the person who “started it all” by declining to call for testimony from the whistleblower whose complaint triggered the impeachment inquiry.

The White House and the State Department have sought to block several officials from testifying who could speak more directly to Mr. Trump’s conduct, including acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and former national security adviser      John Bolton.      

Giuliani was ‘infecting U.S. engagement with Ukraine’

Senior State Department official George Kent testified he became aware this summer that Mr. Giuliani’s efforts to prompt Ukraine to pursue investigations into Mr. Trump’s political rivals were “infecting” Washington’s relationship with Kyiv.

“In mid-August, it became clear to me that Giuliani’s efforts to gin up politically motivated investigations were now infecting U.S. engagement with Ukraine, leveraging President Zelensky’s desire for a White House meeting,” Mr. Kent said in prepared remarks.

Mr. Kent’s opening statement adhered closely to what he told impeachment investigators behind closed doors last month, but it reflected his concerns about Mr. Giuliani’s activities. It also provided Democrats with a powerful sound bite. Republicans didn’t address Mr. Giuliani’s conduct during the hearing.

‘More Ukrainians would die’

Mr. Taylor’s testimony put into human terms his concern that nearly $400 million in U.S. aid was being withheld from Ukraine this summer in an effort to prompt Kyiv to announce investigations.

“One of the components of that assistance is counterbattery radar, another component are sniper weapons. These weapons and this assistance allows the Ukrainian military to deter further incursions by the Russians against Ukrainian territory,” Mr. Taylor said. “If that further incursion, further aggression were to take place, more Ukrainians would die.”

Mr. Taylor acknowledged it would be hard to draw “any direct lines” between specific deployments of aid and “any particular death on the battlefield,” but emphasized the aid was essential for Ukraine to be able to counter Russian aggression.

Republicans countered that Mr. Trump provided lethal military aid while President Obama declined to do so, and argued that no wrongdoing took place because the aid was unfrozen in September.

dates, huh... so what would be an ideal date for nemo, finis, and aleister~?

Mod Nautilus is definitely, definitely, DE-FI-NITE-LY taking this one!

“Honestly, don’t these people have anything better to do?”

“They went to the trouble of asking, Finis. The least we can do is humor them.”

“Fwee hee hee… ohhhh, this will be such FUUUUUUUN!!”

“Ahahahahaaa—-!! Of course, of course maaaaaaaany people want theprivilege of going on a date with this brilliant scientist, but my schedule ispaaaaacked—! Hmmm~ I suppooooose, though…. Ohhh–! I can’t resist that lookof disappointment on your c-u-t-e faaaaace…! Veeeeeeery well, ve—–ry well!I’ll graciously clear a night just~ for~ you~! Looooooooooooook forward to it!”

You know, for someone who has such a packed schedule, Nemo sure does spend alot of time with you in the days leading up to the date. He says that it’s forobservation, but he’s not doing so much “observing” so much as “talking aboutscience non-stop”. You were expecting that, though, otherwise… why would youhave asked him out?

On the day before the date, though—he’s gone. You get so worried about himthat you actually find yourself strolling through London, hoping to hear thattell-tale booming voice. Maybe he found an experiment he got really excitedabout, or… maybe he got himself blown up. Hm, better not think about that.

The next morning, you’re awakened by the sound of rumbling. Is itthundering? But the forecast called for clear skies… huh. It’s getting closer.… It’s getting very close. What the heck is that, it’s right above your house!!

Still in your pajamas, you rush outside to see a large purple and blackairship. It’s so… gaudy… and why does it need all those cannons?!

But you know who it belongs to even before that familiar cackle fills theair.

“Bwaaaahahahahaha! Weeeeeeeeell? What do you think, hmmm? Of this beautiful,magnificent— Fultooooooooooooooon… Mk. II! Mm… if only I still had thegravity alleviator, it could have been much, muuuuch bigger… mutter… mumble…BUT! Whaaaaaaat are you still doing just staring, eeeh?! Climb aboaaaaaard!”

You’re about to protest that you’re still in your pajamas, but the ropeladder that drops down from the Fulton… Mk. II… leaves little room forargument. So you cling to the rope ladder and are raised above London… in yourpajamas. Nice.

Luckily, Nemo has overthought everything. As soon as you climb inside andclose the hatch, you find a package wrapped in brilliant purple tissue paperwith a note that contains way too many ‘x’s and ‘o’s.

He’s prepared quite the costume for you, it seems. Tall boots, slim pants, ashirt ragged for aesthetic purposes… and to top it all, a black leather jacketwith silver and purple wings embroidered on the back.  You can’t help butfeel a bit silly when you put the silver aviator goggles on your forehead, butthat feeling disappears when you walk into the bridge and see Nemo give you athumbs up.

“Mmmm-hmmmm—!! I knew it would look amazing on you!! Come on, come and seemy genius in moooooooootion!!”

Nemo extends his hand and you take it, allowing him to guide you to the shipwheel. As the ship rises, you can’t help but think about how London looks likea doll house from all the way up here.

“Here, here! Aren’t the controls increeeeeeeeeeedible?!” he steps back andushers you in so that your hands are on the wheel. You’ve never steeredanything like this before, you can really feel the power of the technology!

Nemo’s standing behind you, steadying the wheel with a wide grin on hisface.

Soon, London is left far behind and the two of you sail above the cottonyclouds. It looks almost like you’re flying over a field of snow. At Nemo’sencouragement, you leave his side to take a closer look down from the bridge.It really is an entirely different world surrounding you up here!

When you look back at him with a smile, he looks the happiest you’ve everseen him.

Then the Fulton Mk. II starts to shake.

“A—ahhhh—?!”

Nemo looks up at some gauges and dials and you see his eyebrows arch up soquickly that you’re afraid they’ll go flying off his head.

“H-Hold on! Noooooo! My SWEET LOVE MACHIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE—!!”

You cling to whatever you can as Nemo is forced to make an emergencylanding. Well, it’s more like an emergency… skidding? Not as bad as a ‘crash’but not as good as a ‘landing’, either.

There’s a lot of smoke as Nemo helps you open up one of the hatches to slidedown the side, but what’s important is that the both of you are safe.

Well, physically.

Mentally….

“NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO———————-!!!!”

Nemo falls to his knees at the sight of the smoking Fulton Mk. II. Youreally can’t understand any of what he’s saying, just lots and lots of sadnessand lots and lots of pained screeches.

But it’s a beautiful day, at least…

You sit down next to Nemo and let him ramble unhappily about pressure gaugesand cheap wiring and budgets and all kinds of things that you might or mightnot understand. But the saddest thing is when he frowns and looks your way:

“I really, reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaally wanted this date to bepeeeerrfeeeectt…..!!”

And then he bursts into tears.

What else can you do but put a reassuring hand on his back? I mean, sure youplummeted out of the sky and very well could have died, but you also got to seeLondon in a way you never have before and—oh, he’s hugging you. He is huggingyou and crying on you.

Eventually he wipes his eyes and gets to his feet.

“Weeeeeeeell… we’d better get back to the labooooratory……………”

You can’t help but wonder—‘we’?

“Of course, of cooooooourse! After all, you ARE my super-cute assistaaaant,aren’t yoooou…?”

Again, there’s no room for argument as he takes your hand and gives it a squeeze. Nemo begins to walkbeside you on the path back to London—the path of science that he loves so dearly.

Well, it looks like you have a… a……. Nemo…congratulations?

“Hm? You’re asking if you can share an afternoon with an old man…? Haha,I would be delighted.”

…..

Aleister knocks on your door as the clock begins its hourly chime. Thoughhe’s still in his usual attire, he somehow looks sharper than usual. Is it adifferent scarf, a different hat… or is it that smile that’s gently nudging theedges of his mustache?

“You look lovely this afternoon. Isn’t a greeting like that customary forsuch an occasion? Heh, you must forgive my sense of humor, it’s been awhilesince I’ve been able to indulge myself like this.”

He offers you his arm and walks alongside you, his cane keeping the time ofyour stroll with each light ‘thump’.

“I was hoping you would accompany me to afternoon tea today at one of myfavorite parlors. They make a very impressive tea with leaves from the teagardens of Darjeeling. It’s perfect for a relaxed atmosphere and goodconversation.”

The parlor that Aleister is referring to is very small, with an entrance anda valet that leads you into a small room with only three tables.

“I’ve reserved the entire room for us, so please feel relaxed,” saysAleister.

When the valet offers to remove your coat, Aleister politely steps in. “If Imay.”

His gloved hands feel warm as he takes your coat off, and his refined scenttickles your nose.

He pulls out your chair for you and makes sure that you’re settled beforesitting across from him.

The china looks like it’s worth more than you’d make in an entire year! Youcan’t stop your fingers from trembling as you pick up a tea spoon. You’re aboutto put in some sugar, but you think better of it and ask Aleister what herecommends for this particular blend.

“Most tea connoisseurs will only drink their tea black, as it allows them tosavor its natural flavor.” Aleister raises the teacup and inhales. “Darjeelingtea has a wonderful floral aroma.”

He’s right. The tea smells wonderful and warms your body when you take asip.

“It is a thin-bodied tea, but the tannin flavor might be different if youaren’t used to it,” he says. “When I’m feeling adventurous—“ he pauses tolaugh. “—I add a few drops of fresh lemon juice.”

He picks up one of the delicately plated lemon wedges and gives it a quickpinch over his cup. You decide to join him in his adventure, and he nods to youas he lifts his cup.

Even that little bit of juice brightens the flavor, which makes thelightening of the beautiful color worth it.

The two of you take most of your tea in silence, but it isn’t an awkward oruncomfortable silence. It’s warm, and that warmth continues to linger evenafter the plates are cleared and two glasses are brought out.

For Aleister is a glass of fine port, and for you a glass of sloe gin. Youfeel incredibly refined as Aleister speaks about the history of the fortifiedwine in his glass. You completely understand why he’s so successful as aprofessor, you could listen to his quiet voice for hours.

… And that’s just what you do, as it’s dark by the time he’s helping youback into your coat.

You share the same walk, your arm in his and the slow ‘thumps’ of his canekeeping time. Honestly, you wish you could spend more time with him, and whenyou shyly mention this he gives a friendly laugh.

“I’m afraid I find myself in the same situation, but these sorts ofrendezvous should be savored instead of downed all at once.”

He walks you up the steps to your house, his smile slight but appearinggenuine.

“Thank you for a marvelous evening,” he says. “I look forward to calling onyou again, if I may.”

You can do nothing but nod.

The skin around Aleister’s eyes crinkles in mirth as he gently takes yourhand and kisses its back. His mustache tickles your skin, and you wish—no,don’t think about such thoughts. Save those for another day. Savor it, likeAleister wants you to.

He waits until you close the door before hetakes his leave, just like a gentleman should.

“Huh?! You want me to do what? What acomplete waste of time! ……. Ah, you’ll be even more bothersome if I say no,won’t you? Tch, fine… two days from now at eleven o’ clock sharp, outside SaintPaul’s Cathedral.”

…

You decide it would be best to arrive early. Finis doesn’t have the samethought, however, and you see him approach at the exact time.

“At least you’re punctual,” he says with a sly smile.

He walks so fast that you’re pretty much trailing behind him.

“We’re going to the fairgrounds today,” says Finis. “I figured a simpleperson like you would prefer an outing like that.”  

You know you should feel insulted, but he looked very cute when he saidthose words. You suppose you find it rather hard to stay mad at Finis.

When you arrive at the carnival, there are people from all walks of lifebustling from tent to tent.

Though Finis has his usual sour expression, you can’t help but feel hisposture conveys… hesitance?

You ask him if this is his first time going to the fair.

“What?!”

Your question caught him off guard, but he clears his throat.

“Of course it’s my first time here. Do I look like the sort of man whowastes his time in idleness such as this?”

Even his pouting face is cute.

You decide to ask him what he would like to do first.

“Ha, you act as though I came here for myself! I brought you here as afavor, so shouldn’t you decide where we go?”

…

He’s clearly staring at a snack vendor as he says this.

You tell him that you’re rather hungry, and without much fanfare he brisklywalks with you to a large tent dripping with candy apples, cotton candy,lemonade, and funnel cakes as big as Finis’ head.

As you tap your finger to your chin in thought, you mutter about how it ALLlooks good.

“Two of everything,” Finis speaks to the vendor in a dismissive tone.

As you sputter in protest, the vendor begins loading you up with popcorn, bonbons,cookies, lemonade, and a cloud of cotton candy that you somehow balance on topof everything else. Finis pays without a word and the two of you make your wayto a bench.

As you stare at it all, you tell Finis that there’s no way you can eat allof this.

“My god! You think I expect you to eat all of this?!”

You stare at him, and he sighs as if he’s explaining the alphabet.  

“You sample a bit of everything, and then decide what the best-tastingthings are. That’s what you eat.”

With this plan in mind, the two of you begin sampling the fair food. It’ssticky and sweet and absolutely wonderful, and you find yourself quicklyfilling up on the choicest selections.

When you finish, Finis begins walking ahead, and you follow after him.

“I can’t believe you ate the entire candy apple,” he scoffs. “The candy wasonly on the outside, you know!” 

You want to protest, but your stomach hates you enough as it is. You decideto just accept his chiding.

“Well? What now?” Finis looks around with a haughty expression. “The games?It looks like they hardly require any skill…”

But your eyes are already on the ferris wheel looming above you.

Finis simply sighs and begins to drag you in its direction.

You’re holding hands.

“It’s just so that you will keep up,” he explains.

Right.

When Finis gets on the ferris wheel, you can’t help but look at him for amoment. He’s so short that his feet don’t reach the floor, and his dignifiedexpression looks so out of place that you can’t help but laugh.

“What’s so funny?” his eyebrow twitches as he speaks. “I certainly hope you’relaughing at the pitiful state of this fairground!”

You sit down next to him and the ferris wheel begins to slowly rotate.

“Hmph…” Finis looks off in the distance at the rows of airships dotting theskyline. “… The view isn’t half-bad from up here, I suppose…”

You dig in your pocket and pull out a bag of leftover cotton candy.

“You managed to stash away more–?!” Finis looks impressed, and a hint ofred colors his cheeks as you offer it to him.

“Geez… you won’t let me say no, will you?”

You shake your head, and the two of you sharethe cotton candy as the ferris wheel goes ‘round and ‘round.
