MHA Chapter 403 spoilers translations

This week’s initial tentative super rough/literal translations under the cut.

So this is nothing else but a collection of information, volume by volume, about what the Todorokis do in the story or which info are revealed about them and so on.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE VOLUME?

CONTINUING FROM PREVIOUS VOLUME

U.S.J. ARC (Chap 12-21): Shōto, along with Bakugō and Kirishima, reaches where All Might is and help him fight the Nomu and Kurogiri, Shōto partially freezing the Nomu with a control of his ice (he managed to freeze the Nomu but didn’t freeze All Might despite the latter being close) that positively impress All Might.

He however tells them to keep out of the fight. Shōto though, points out how things would have been troublesome without his help and All Might agrees...

...but then beats up the Nomu, impressing Shōto, who agrees they’re not at ready for the level All Might is fighting at and suggest they’ll go help others. As the other teachers reach the place Shigaraki and Kurogiri leaves. The police witness that Shōto is among the unharmed kids and Shōto discover Hagakure was in his same area so, when he used his ice, he could have frozen her.

U.A. SPORT FESTIVAL ARC (Chap 22-44): The day after classes are cancelled. The day after it, Aizawa is back at school and informs Shōto’s class they’ve to prepare for U.A sport festival. At lunch Shōto overhear Īda and Uraraka saying All Might called Midoriya and Īda pointing out how Midoriya has similar super strength to All Might while Uraraka suggests All Might could have taken a liking to him.

Two weeks after, just before the start of the sport festival, Shōto approaches Midoriya pointing out how he’s stronger and more capable than him. Then he claims All Might got his eyes on Midoriya so he’s going to beat him.

‘Midoriya’ 「緑谷」 “Midoriya.”

‘Todoroki-kun… Nani?’ 「轟くん…… 何？」 “Todoroki-kun… What is it?”

‘Kyakkanteki ni mite mo, jitsuryoku wa ore no hō ga ue da to omou’ 「客観的に見ても実力は俺の方が上だと思う」 “Even looking at it objectively, I think I have better ability, above yours.”

‘E! ? U~tsuun…’ 「へ！？うっうん…」 “Eh!? Uhu…”

‘Omae ALL MIGHT ni meekake rare teru yona.’ 「おまえオールマイトに目ぇかけられてるよな」 “You're being watched by All Might, isn’t that right.”

‘!!’ 「!! 」 “!!”

‘Betsuni soko sensaku suru tsumori ha nē ga…’ 「別にそこ詮索するつもりはねえが…」 “I don’t particularly want to pry into that but…” ‘Omae ni wa katsu zo’ 「おまえには勝つぞ」 “I'll beat you.” [Chap 23]

I didn’t transcribe the whole dialogue but Shōto’s way to talk contrast with Midoriya, who’s much more polite.

For start Midoriya refers to him as ‘Todoroki-kun’ where Shōto goes just for ‘Midoriya’.

Even if we don’t see it here, to say “I” Shōto uses ‘ore’ (おれ/俺), the tough, masculine, kind of rude way to say “I”, while Midoriya uses ‘boku’ (ぼく/僕), which is more humble, and to say “you” Shōto uses ‘omae’ (おまえ/お前) which either expresses the speaker's higher status, or a very casual relationship among peers where Midoriya goes for ‘kimi’ (きみ/君) which is the polite way to say you.

So Shōto is less polite than Midoriya and his words are clearly not nice, however he’s not super rude either. This will change later so I thought to point it out here.

Kaminari is impressed by how ‘the strongest of the class’ (aka Shōto) made a declaration of war to Midoriya and when Kirishima tells Shōto he shouldn’t pick a fight now, Shōto replies it’s okay since they aren’t pretending to be friends, here.

‘Nakayoshi-gokko janēnda nandatte iitaro’ 「仲良しごっこじゃねえんだ何だって良いたろ」 “That’s not like we are playing close friends, so it’s okay.” [Chap 23]

Midoriya agrees Shōto is stronger but claims he won’t fall behind.

The first event at the sport festival at which Shōto takes place is the "Obstacle Course Race" (障害物競争 'Shōgai Butsu Kyōsō'). Shōto freezes the legs of the one next and ahead of him and becomes the "leader" (先頭 'Sentō'). He then faces the robots which were used during the entrance exam, freezing them so that they won’t be able to move and he’ll manage to get through… but he froze them in such an unstable position they’ll fall on whoever else will try to pass. Shōto still comments he wished U.A. had prepared something better as his "shitty old man" (クソ親父 'KUSO Oyaji'), aka Todoroki Enji, is watching.

Shōto, keeping the lead, then easily passes the second barrier, tailed by Bakugō, whom he notices is all fired up and wonders if Bakugō is a slow starter. Meanwhile the public is impressed by Shōto due to his Quirk and to how he’s athletic and perceptive. When they realize he’s the son of Hero Number Two, Endeavor (aka Enji) they find normal he’s so strong and assume the Pro will fight to have him as their sidekick.

Once Shōto reaches the minefield he understands it’s an obstacle made to put in disadvantage who’s leading. At the same time Bakugō reaches him, claiming he made his war declaration to the wrong guy, surpassing Shōto. The two fight for first place when Midoriya surpasses them. In order to get first place again, Shōto makes an ice path, aware it’ll help the others too, suspending his battle with Bakugō so that they both can chase after Midoriya who however manages to keep the lead and get first place in the race while Shōto is second.

Next up is the "Cavalry battle" (騎馬戦 'Kibasen'). MORE ABOUT THIS ARC IN THE NEXT VOLUME

All in all Shōto keeps on being fleshed out more and more, so that we get how an awesome aspiring Hero he is in terms of abilities and in terms of Quirk power but also of ability to judge situations… but we also view also how cold and competitive he can be, as well as how he is aware of his own abilities. Plus we are introduced to how he’s the son of Number Two, Endeavor, but also it’s hinted how it doesn’t seem there’s good blood between him and his father.

HOW ARE THE TODOROKIS DRESSED?

Todoroki Shōto is shown in his first Hero costume, in his school uniform and in his gym suit.

IS THERE MORE CONTENT ABOUT THE TODOROKIS?

Todoroki Shōto is among the students depicted on the cover.

Of course he's also among the characters depicted among the ones starring in the volume.

In the anime, in episode 14, when Aizawa says by taking part to the U.A. sport festival they might end up noticed by Heroes, they show an image of Endeavor.

a lot of ideas infest my brain but this one is pretty new! partially because recently i've been getting into more popular vocaloid songs (mou ikkai! mou ikkai! "watashi wa kyou mo korogarimasu." to shoujo wa iu, shoujo wa iu) and po pi po. has taken me in (mwehehe!!!)

so imma just write yet another 2dmv (this is more of a draft than anything tho soooo. no cool sections with specific vocal lines)

so mhm! for april fools this year how about we torture rui >:333

(except it isn't we cuz i'm sure "we" aren't like. sega or colorful palette's project sekai team)

Po Pi Po - LamazeP (ft. Miku Hatsune, Emu Otori, Nene Kusanagi)

anyways! we torture rui >:DDD

so! for the 2dmv! it's in the style of a 3dmv with like a general stage-y dancey area and blah

yes. we torture rui. that. that's like all there is.

emu, nene and miku are all in slightly altered green workout project diva (?) outfits with different details and stuff i guess (but they all have to match cuz cohesive set thingy.)

so from the beginning of the song to around the end of the first chorus we're in the wondershow sekai, with rui sat at a table, refusing to eat his vegetable filled bentou. nuh-uh. no way in bahooey. and emu, miku and nene are just walking around him as. the po pi po cult, tryna get him to eat his food. oh also meiko rin len and luka have rui at tazer-point so if he ever tries to run off he'd probably go bbbrzrzZRRZRZRZBZRZBZRZBRZRZRZBZBRZRBZRBZRZZZZZZ (yes, in bold)

and then around after the first chorus, kaito leads tsukasa to the main area and he's like. what's going on. and then he sees the table, rui and the vegetable-filled bentou. ohhhhhhhhhhhh. but instead of joining the po pi po cult he goes sits at the table with rui and tries to coax him into actually eating his vegetables.

(for the whole thing the camera focuses on the po pi po cult, but from here rui and tsukasa argue in the back. like look. "but they taste disgusting!" "but they're good for you!" "have you even felt the texture of those disgusting things?" "just eat it TwT" "let's kiss" "sur... sTOP DISTRACTING ME")

and yeah after that exchange of dialogue we focus on more po pi po cult!! in the choruses there's going to be. flying vegetables and like vegetable juice carton box thingy cutouts cuz we have to push the theme or something

and po pi po cult is surrounding the oddballs (mainly 2) and yk. pushing him to eat the vegetables.

and then around the second chorus in the back tsukasa goes "*sigh* okay fine. if i kiss you will you eat your vegetables?" but rui only heard kiss so they go at it (woo.)

but then but then!! (for some reason i feel like he sounds like nene here if she wasn't part of the po pi po cult) near the end, (a very flustered, tomato-red) tsukasa's like "okay. now eat your vegetables." "eh?!" "what eh. that was the deal." "there was a deal?!?" "stop playing dumb =w= eat your vegetables before i take these chopsticks and feed you myself." "waa~, you're going to feed me? kasa, you're such a romantic~" "...mhm... *looks at vegetable-filled bentou*"

"YOU'RE GOING TO FEED ME THESE VEGETABLES?!?!?"

"if i must."

"BETRAYAAAL."

and then at the very end we see a (chibi?) rui with tears streaming down his face, mouth full of lettuce.

(for him this is torture of the highest degree.)

yeah i sent this to a friend on discord they were mainly focusing on the gay scrunkles

no literally they just went. "*le gasp* GAYS AWWWW GAYS I LOVE GAYS <3333 THEY'RE SUPER SILLY I LOVE THEM :DDD" dude i also made an entire cult of three people to feed vegetables to one person with purple hair and a soda candy addiction so. please focus on that too

koito otonoshin speaks in satsuma or kagoshima dialect, which the story itself tells you is notoriously difficult for even other japanese people to understand. and it turns out noda-sensei himself didn't have a perfect grasp of it, because he went back and changed a bunch of dialectical grammar in otonoshin's dialogue in between the magazine version and the release of the volume.

here's an example when he's talking to tsurumi about his brother:

it's hard to get much out of this if you can't read japanese whatsoever, but my point is to show you how much of the text has changed. despite that, none of the meaning of the text changed! only the grammar was changed to make it more accurate to the actual dialect. (to someone who can only [sorta] read "standard" japanese, it became much harder to understand.) for example, noda-sensei changes otonoshin's first-person pronoun from "oi" (informal, i think along the lines of "ore") to "atai" (formal, clearly analogous to "watashi") when he's talking to tsurumi. because otonoshin is trying to be polite. he also adds a little furigana to let you know that otonoshin does not pronounce 一度 as the usual "ichido" but rather as "iddo."

it's probably that noda-sensei wrote the lines in what he thought of as satsuma dialect, and then some astute magazine readers (or maybe his own editors) were like, "hey, you wouldn't say it like that." so he fixed a bunch of it. i bet he got an old person from the kagoshima region to help him out.

(edit: i think it's also possible that noda-sensei was having a hard time deciding if he just wanted to signal to the reader that this was being said in dialect by writing it in sorta dialect [this option would be easier for the reader] OR if he wanted to go all-out and actually write all those lines in dialect [this option would make things harder for the reader but would be more authentic], and he ended up choosing the latter because noda-sensei does not do anything half-assed when it comes to culture.)

i don't know how interesting this is to other people but i think japanese dialects are cool

here's how EH scans translated this panel. it's exactly right (sheds a tear of admiration). the 一度 that he pronounces as "iddo" means "once" and it's in the sentence about his brother not getting angry. i only focused on that part because of the added furigana. anyway, even though the dialectical grammar changed a lot, the translation is still perfect, because the meaning didn't change.

however...

the viz translation cut out a bunch of stuff for no goddamn reason, as expected. bite me viz. the font size isn't even different from EH scans, and the speech bubbles look dead empty, so you can't say you had to pare it down to fit in the speech bubble and still be readable in print form. (rubs temples...)

i read the magazine version raws first and then got my hands on the volume version raws, and i noticed some of otonoshin's lines were different. so that's how i ended up making a high-level raw-to-raw comparison (which really isn't something i'd normally care about). and now i'm comparing 4 different versions. what?

for the interested, here's a transliteration of the middle line from the panel above, so you can understand how much it changed

before: "oi wa sakurajima daikon to karakattan jakedo… ichido mo okorankatta"

after: "atai wa sakurajima daikon cchi karakouta taddon… iddo mo harakakankatta"

see?? that's crazy, right? and here's what i think it would be like in "standard" japanese: "watashi wa sakurajima daikon to karakattan dakedo... ichido mo okoranakatta." so comparing that to the former, you can kinda see that noda-sensei first just slightly modified "standard" japanese to be more satsuma-ish (changing "da" to "ja," etc.)., and then he had to go back and change everything because the real dialect is just that different.

i think the implication is that young koito here can't really speak "standard" japanese at this time in his life. he listens to tsurumi speak that way, but he responds in his own dialect. however, adult second lieutenant koito otonoshin speaks in "standard" japanese with only minor bursts of dialect. so he learned to code-switch as a necessity for his career.

in the rest of the chapter and the rest of the koito otonoshin kidnapping incident, every dialect speaker's dialogue is altered in the same way as the example panel. it's quite a substantial change.

make sure to listen out for the dialect if you watch next week's episode of the anime (s4e4), because these lines will be spoken then! unless they decide not to! because if the entire koito family is speaking this heavy dialect, they will have to be captioned the whole time even for japanese viewers! (edit: they didn't caption it! never mind! but they did have all the lines in dialect like in the volume version!)

Isa nanamang nakakapagod na araw ang bumati saiyo dahil kakagaling mo lang sa unibersidad, at dumaretso ka pa sa condo niyo ng kuya mo. Mayroon ka din kasing sariling condo na malapit sa iyong unibersidad, pero dahil sembreak na din naman, ikaw ay dumaretso dito.

Binuksan mo ang pinto at nakita mo naman na naglalaro ang kuya mo ng PS5 kasama ang kanyang childhood friend. Introvert kasi ang kuya mo at bihira ito mag kaibigan, pero ang pinaka matalik niyang kaibigan ay si Jaemin. Madalas mo siyang nakikita kasama ang kuya mo pero lagi itong may inaabala, kagaya na nang isang beses na may katawag siya sa kanyang telepono, kaya wala talaga kayong interaksyon sa isa't isa. Hindi mo nga rin alam ang mga impormasyon patungkol sakanya eh.

Napatingin sila parehas sa pintuan ng condo niyo, at may halong parang gulat na naguguluhan ang mukha ng iyong kuya. Pinatigil muna nila ang kanilang laro para lapitan ka. Which Is Harder Korean or Japanese?

My BACKGROUND:

I have been studying Korean for almost 6 years now and I recently started studying Japanese earlier this year - about 6 months ago. This post will just be me comparing the 2 languages and pointing out their similarities. The actual answer of which is harder or which is easier is for you to come up with and I also think it depends on your background - for example your native language or other languages you know well, which one you learn first, how much you have learned, etc. I know some people that have learned Japanese that find Korean hard and I know Korean learners who find Japanese hard or vice versa they find it easier.

Disclaimer: It's kind of difficult to add audio to all of this, so I'll leave a link to the Instagram post I made with all the audio.

SIMILARITY #1 - Sentence Structure

Japanese & Korean have the exact same sentence structure. Instead of me having to take time to learn it I was able to skip over that, because I'm already used to it in Korean.

The General Structure (which is sometimes more flexible than this) :

Example:

저는 오늘밤에 지수의 집에 영화를 보고 싶어요

私は今晩ジスの家に映画を見たいです。

I want to watch a movie at Jisoo’s house tonight.

저는 - 私は = I

오늘밤 - 今晩 = tonight

지수의 집에 - ジスの家に = at Jisoo's house

영화를 - 映画を = movie

보(다) - 見(る) = to watch

고 싶다 - たい = want to

(어)요 - です

SIMILARITY #2 - Numbers

You make numbers in Japanese the same way as in Korean. As long as you know the first 10 numbers, the rest become easy. Also some of the numbers even sound alike, making them easier to memorize. A major difference is that Korean has 2 number systems - one that’s Korean based and another that comes from Chinese. We’ll look at the Chinese one here - sino numbers.

(il) 일 - いち (ichi) = 1

(ee) 이 - に (ni) = 2

(sam) 삼 - さん (san) = 3

(sa) 사 - よん (yon) = 4

(o) 오 - ご (go) = 5

(yuk) 육 - ろく (roku) = 6

(chil) 칠 - なな / しち (nana/shichi) = 7

(pal) 팔 - はち (hachi) = 8

(gu) 구 - く / きゅう (ku/ kyuu) = 9

(ship) 십 - じゅう (jyuu) = 10

(shipil) 십일 - じゅういち (jyuuichi) = 11 (10 + 1)

(shipo)십오 - じゅうご (jyuugo) = 12

(eeship) 이십 - にじゅう (nijyuu) = 20 (2 x 10)

(samship) 삼십 - さんじゅう (sanjyuu) = 30

(gushipo) 구십오 - きゅうじゅうご (kyuujyuugo) = 95 (90 + 5)

(baek) 백 - ひゃく(hyaku) = 100

…and so on and so forth

This also goes for ages and telling the time. Both languages follow the same structure for this too.

AGE -

Basically just attaching (sal) 살 / さい (sai) = Age to the number

19 years old

(yeolahop sal) 19살 (Korean uses different number system here but it’s still 10 + 9)

(jūkyūsai) 19歳

TIME

Native Korean Number + O'clock/Hour + Sino Number + Minute

9:10 o'clock

아홉 + 시 + 십 + 분

く + 時 (じ) + じゅう + ぶん

SIMILARITY #3 - Particles

It seems like the same particles in Japanese are essentially the same as Korean. They have topic marker, object marker, time/location-marking particle, etc. There might be some unique ones for each language - like I said I’m a beginner in Japanese and probably haven’t come across it yet. Here's a decently sized list to of them that I noticed off the bat.

(eun/neun) 은/는 > は (wa) - topic marker

(ee/ga) 이/가 > が (ka) - subject marker

(eul/reul) 을/를 > を (wo) - object marker

(eh) 에 > に (ni) - time/location marking particle

(eseo) 에서 > で (de) - doing action at location

(ui) 의 > の (no) - possession particle (..'s)

(uro) (으)로 > で (de) - a means of doing something

(uro) (으)로 > へ (e) - to, towards

(buteo/kaji)에서/부터-까지 > から/まで (kara/made) - from/since-until

(mada) 마다 > まい (mai) - every, each

(to) 도 > も(mo) - also, too

(gwa/wa) 과/와/이랑/하고 (there are many ways to say and in Korean) > と (to) - and

(ina) (이)나 > や (ya) - and; or

(ji/jiyo/jyo) 지/지요 (죠) > ね (ne) - right?

(ege/hante) 에게 (한테) - に (ni) - to, from

(man) 만 > だけ (dake) - only

I noticed that most of the time these particles function the exact same, however there are some instances in which they cannot be used the same way in both languages. For example, sometimes は(topic particle) is used instead of が (subject particle) when in Korean you’d use 이/가 (subject particle) instead.

Example:

where is the bathroom?

화장실이 어디예요?

トイレはどこですか。

*if we followed my list above word for word and used the Japanese example and translated to Korean it would become: 화장실은 어디예요? which doesn’t sound as natural and may be seen as “wrong”. トイレがどこですか would probably have the same affect as the Korean sentence for reference.

Of course you must learn the rules in each language of when a certain particle must be used and not just look at this list and apply it to both languages as if it’s a “one size fits all” kind of thing.

SIMILARITY #4

I won’t go into much detail, because there are hundreds of words between these languages that are pronounced similarly or the same and share the same meanings. I made 2 other posts on it in the past.

EXAMPLES:

(gajoku) 가족 = 家族 - かぞ (kazoku) = family

(junbi) 준비 = 準備 - じゆんび (jun'bi) = prepare

(sajin) 사진 = 写真 - しゃしん (shashin) = picture

(dosogwan) 도서관 = 図書館 - としよがん (toshokan) = library

(byongwon) 병원 = 病院 - びょういん (byōin’) = hospital

WHICH IS HARDER / EASIER:

One thing I must say is that hard and easy are very subjective, and when I rank these they are on a comparative scale - for instance compared to Korean conjugating is hard in Japanese or compared to Japanese learning the Korean alphabet is very easy. But both of them have harder and easier parts in their own way, because learning languages is not a straight line to the finish.

I'm not fluent in Korean or Japanese, but I am at a high enough level that I can give a bit of my experience on this topic. I've only been studying Japanese for about 6 months now. My answer is Yes and No. Yes, because certain concepts are easier to grasp and the many similarities. No, because it’s still an entirely different language with many other rules that differ from Korean.

Mata, M nya Mancing Mania Mantap!

Memasuki waktu indonesia bagian malam, sepi ditemani gerimis, dan nyamuk yang lagi maksa ambil darah di tangan kanan. Ngomong2 ambil darah, kalo nih nyamuk bisa diajak kerja sama buat anter ke lab pk asik kali yak.

Yak, sepi gerimis, ditengah kocar kacirnya mata yang aduhai berkesan, agak memberi space untuk ambil nafas menulis tumblr. Dimulai dari, udah masuk aja buat pre op, padahal masih H-1 official masuk stase. Habis lari 15 km, baru aja rebahan, tiba tiba hape getar 'ayo pre op', rasanya udah kayak squidword baru mo tidur, tiba tiba buka mata gara gara denger spongebob sama petrik berisik di luar.

Hari official pertama, langsung pecah rekor pasbar poli, 8 orang, tanpa adanya patokan diagnosis mau diarahin kemana, penting asal tanya keluhan umum aja dah sama Riwayat Penyakit Sekarang 10 poin khas di mata dan RP Dahulu secukupnya. 7 sacred? inget sih, cuma kadang ga nemu bahasa yang pas sesuai konteks malah bikin pasiennya 'eh gimana dok?'. Anamnesis, foto 6 posisi, sok ngecek lapang pandang, sama gerak bola mata, dan arahin masuk ruang cek visus dan tekanan bola mata.

Hari kedua, first time, kukira ini jadwal IBS ternyata jadwal photoshoot grup wa besar koas mata yang isinya mungkin dari koas mata paling baru sampe koas mata yang bisa jadi udah residen mata di univ lain, sekaligus jadwal cerita inspiratif, karena menginspirasi segenap teman sejawat lain, agar membordir, atau setidaknya menempelkan namanya masing masing di baju scrub ok nya. Nggih sami sami.

Hari ketiga RS UNS, latihan banting setir dan turn plan A ke B at the time, walau sebenarnya gaada plan B, poli dr Heru. Awalnya udah ngerasa gak enak pas manggil pasien, 'panggilan kepada Bapak Her.. (kok namanya kayak mirip yak) ...u pras (eh sek kok gaenak yo, tp iki pasien og, paling ga sengaja, sama wajarla. Sek coba lanjut dalam hati, 'etyono... Sp... M?!')

ehm! Bapak Supardi, atas nama Bapak Supardi? Monggo pak *dengan wajah tersenyum menahan panik

Keempat, di tengah hari sabtu yang tenang, setelah dipastikan aman hingga waktu menunjukkan pukul 4 kurang, saat hendak berlari dan benar benar udah tinggal pake sepatu dan tet, tiba tiba 'ada yang udah ke igd?' assalaamu'alaikum pasbar! Mau berangkat kok ya ga ngerti kudu ngapaun karena baru pertama kali, mau lanjut bodo amat lari, yaa, kok malah lari2 si leh? ga tanggung jawab ta?

Sampe sana udah ada Febri, anam dan Pemfis kelar, lanjut input data sama bikin ppt buat laporan, eh belum kelar 'ada pasien IGD baru lagi' alhamdu? lillah. Sampe sekitar isya an, udah bikin laporan, isi soap, dapet advis, dah aman lah poko e, bismillah lapar, balik mampir beli penyetan JESE dulu sama Febri, aku beli pancong balap, tapi tiba tiba lagi 'dek ini fotonya gimana, apa ada lesi meninggi, lesi satelit' dor, bener kata aldi taher, semua yang ada di igd, eh di dunia, pasti bingung, tinggalkan ayam dan pancongmu, angkat motor dan sentermu ke igd bersamaku

Balik IGD ngurus lagi pasbarnya. Kelar agak sekitaran jam 8-9 lahya, saat sudah izin pamit dokter igd dan menjemput ayam yang sudah penyet serta pancong yang udah mulai lelah balapan, tiba tiba 'dek pasien baru lagi' subhanallah kalo bukan karena Febri yang baik hati dan saya yang terpaksa mau gamau mah, cuma mba maryam yang ke igd. Prosedur sama. Tinggal ayam dan pancongmu mari menyapa pasbar bersamaku. Balik lagi dan baru beneran pulang hampir jam 11, aaaahh mantap!

Itu baru sepekan, pekan kedua lebih baik? alhamdulillah, hari senin 5 pasbar, hari selasa 4 pasbar, hari rabu kocar kacir pre op, hari kamis ga kerasa kocar kacir, tapi kocar kacir juga ternyata, hari Jumat? mari kita liat habis ini wkwk semoga baik baik saja dan tidak sampai menormalisasi misuh kayak pas ngurus diksar wkwk. Tapi insyaa allah engga si harusnya, karena udah mulai ngerti gimana.

Kesimpulannya sejauh ini di mata, sangat berkesan, dan lebih banyak belajar prosedur manajemen pasien di Moewardi nya daripada belajar penyakit di mata nya wkwk. Masih ada 2 pekan, masih ada yang perlu diperbaiki di depan.

Ceritanya gw bisa terjun jadi tutor online sekarang tuh berkat salah satu temen kuliah dulu, sebut saja Uni. She was the closest to me of the five members in the gank, dan terbukti hanya beliau ini satu-satunya yg masih keep in touch dari semua genk temen kuliah. Ada sih satu lagi yg sesama belum nikah, but not as often as this one friend.

Nah tadi pagi Uni jadi pembicara utk training soal how to handle corporate class gitu, dan audience-nya semua tutor. Semalem kita sempet chatting bentar karena dia upload wa story soal itu dan gw reply. Balasan pertama dia adalah “Waaa ntar jangan nanya2 yaak, aku takut gak bisa jawab” 😂 I’m glad she still that someone I knew meski udah berumah tangga 4 tahun. Jadi yaa for me Uni yg sekarang adalah Uni yg selama ini gw kenal, intinya gitu. Termasuk cara ngomongnya, her clumsiness, her jokes, etc.

Trus tadi pas beliau ngisi presentasi, gw terkejut dong.

She has changed. No, SHE HAS GROWN UP AND THRIVED FCKG WELL!!

Yang gw inget ini anak mah ya pake logat melayu kalo ngomong (she was from bukittinggi btw), dan hari ini MBAKE MEDHOK LO, YAA OTTOKE ISO. Kaghet akutuuu. Sekarang doi ikut suaminya tinggal di Bekasi sih, so that's why dari bahasa bisa aja berubah. But the way she was speaking was totally different now, like she was somebody I never knew before. Ofkors, in a good away. Super duper good way.

Dipikir-pikir lagi memang gak heran, Uni tu pernah jadi dosen setahun, udah gitu juga punya pengalaman ngajar online sebelum ini. Lah gw?? Eh gw juga pernah ngajar les sih 2 tahun, tapi vakumnya agak lama juga sampe nyaris 2 tahun. Jadi segala teaching enjoyment and vibes to interact with students udah nguap ntah kemana. Setelah nyemplung lagi tuntutannya malah harus fun, ceria, dan extrovert. Mo nanges 😭

Ya ya ya I have a very weak mental, I admit. Tempe banget udah, diiris tipis, digoreng, trus cuma sisa tepungnya doang buat dikunyah. It’s so hard to accept that I didn’t grow up like others did. Mungkin gak bagus sih banding-bandingin gini, but it’s not the achievement that I envy. It’s the walking. Because me have stopped many times until I forgot how to even crawl.

Anyway I feel good about her bloomings. In my eyes, she turns out to be a dem cool woman. Jangan sampe dia tau kalo si tempe ini masih belum upgrade dirinya menjadi tempe premium yg dijual di LN dengan harga selangit 🥹 apasihw

SR MEDIA CALLBACK AUDITION

or: in an attempt to pass a class, kou's professor suggests he audition for a company as part of his first person research. kou somehow makes it in. cover: utada hikaru - first love

he hadn't expected a call back. honestly, kou had thought the message he received was a scam, almost immediately hitting the 'report' button - only to stop short when he realized that it was indeed official. "holy shit."

it wasn't like kou needed to go for the second audition. after all, he'd already submitted his paper a few days back and according to his professor, no longer needed to worry about whether he was going to horribly fail or barely pass.

still, this wasn't exactly the sort of opportunity he thought he could pass up. sure, kou might not deem himself as the most ... idol-like person out there; he's clumsy, and silly and quite honestly can barely follow a schedule, but it does intrigue him enough to follow through with the process.

"it won't hurt."

so it does kind of hurt. literally. kou is making his way to the sr media building, guitar in hand when he bumps into a pole on the way there. in his defense though, he'd been busy looking up the directions to the building on his phone, and had simply been distracted.

thankfully, the pole he'd hit wasn't too far from the building, and with a deep breath, he takes a step inside. alright. he thinks he's got this. maybe. or maybe he doesn't, in which case – meh. what can he do.

he arrives in a muted outfit ( thankfully, kou's closet is filled with nothing but muted outfits ), and he's never really been the type to wear makeup anyway – so he doesn't worry too much about that. he follows the staff up, and looks around the building. fancy, he thinks.

they take him to a room and ask him to pose. pose. what the fuck is this, korea's next top model?

kou scratches his head at first as he thinks of what to do – but the camera man mistakes that as his first pose and kou blinks in surprise when the flash goes off. oh okay, he thinks, too awkward to correct the man behind the camera.

they'd already sort of told him before hand that they would be taking pictures though, and kou had ( embarrassingly ) tried out a few simple poses in front of his mirror at home. and so he mimics just that, whatever sort of pose he'd practiced before hand, before he's brought to another room to perform.

"hello, my name is sato kou," he bows. "today i'll be doing an acoustic cover of utada hikaru's first love. thank you," he bows again and picks up his guitar. he tunes it for a quick moment before he clears his throat and begins.

he strums his guitar and the familiar intro begins to fill the room. quite honestly, he feels much more comfortable like this – singing in japanese, as though he's able to understand the lyrics a little better.

ashita no imagoro ni wa anata wa doko ni iru n' darou dare wo omotte 'ru n' darou ( tomorrow, at this time where will you be? who will you be thinking about? )

he sings, strumming his guitar before the chords shift to the chorus.

you are always gonna be my love itsu ka dare ka to mata koi ni ochite mo i'll remember to love you taught me how you are always gonna be the one ima wa mada kanashii love song atarashii uta utaeru made ( you are always gonna be my love i'll remember to love you taught me how you are always gonna be the one love song now and forever ... )

the song comes to an end and kou strums the guitar once more, before he looks at the panel. "thank you."

it should end there. it should've ended there. but things never quite go as kou plans, and instead of "goodbye" he's hit with a question.

“please reflect on your time during the next gen audition process and tell us what you would like to do differently, should you be invited to participate in a second season.”

eh, he thinks to himself, slightly surprised. next gen? the thing he'd been on months ago? that next gen?

i wouldn't participate, he wants to say. next gen – as interesting as it had been – was too troublesome for someone like kou. the thought of having to put on different performances almost every week, of dancing, of taking time away from his cats. that next gen. but as stupid as kou can be, he doesn't actually say that out loud.

"i'd be more interesting," he says instead. which probably isn't the sort of normal response one would be expecting. "i think i was pretty boring the first season – uhm, maybe that's why i didn't get a lot of interesting shots." now that he thinks back on it, kou had been pretty ... normal throughout next gen, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but his friends in school had told him that korean varieties loved a good story and interesting people. which kou admittedly, felt like he wasn't.

"oh, i don't mean like i'd cause controversies," he continues, shaking his hands. "i mean, i would've caught people's attention by taking on a character. probably a leader-like role," not that kou thinks he has it in him to be a leader, but he did once lead a group project in uni, "or have a good storyline. i would work harder on having those if i got invited the another season. i heard that the audience likes a good story and an interesting person, it gives them someone to root for."

the audition comes to an end, and kou once again, bows for what must be the umpteenth time, before he leaves the building.

on the way home, he receives an email with the score of his research paper.

"SATO KOU RESEARCH PAPER - 70% Comments: Interesting topic. In-depth with first-hand experience."

he's glad he won't fail the class at least.
