"Beware the Well of Shade, for the shadows run deep through its endless walls and twisting caverns" I've been messing around with this rig on and off for awhile, but I finally finished this little side project making a short scene in the style of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I've never been quite happy with how Starswirl the Bearded looked in the show when he finally appeared but, last year I happened upon a really cool fan design of Starswirl by the user Orin311 that I fell in love with. I decided to make a one view puppet rig this year directly based off their vector art as a surprise, complete with show style lip sync and a full walk cycle. One thing led to another in adding a background, a few illustrator texture brushes, multiple sound effects, re-purposing some old fire animation of mine and suddenly it became a whole completed scene. With such a cool wizard design, the choice for using Gandalf's voice to test the rig with was a no brainier. The background is based on the Well of Shade location in the Season 7 finale of MLP. I had a lot of fun making this and it was great practice for some future personal animation projects I wanna start next year! Credits for the character design and sound effects listed below

So AU idea: Sunburst is the second best student of Celestia (He's not so good on practice but in spell theory no one can match with him) also after Selena's (< my name for Luna) returns she took a student too! (It's Starlight)

The pillars are a legendary hypothetical group of heroes. A few old files dating from before the sisters reign have been found on the group but were heavily redacted from before the separation of Equus and Equestria. Only hypothesis can be done on its role and members. From what scholars have deciphered, Starswirl the Bearded seems to have been involved in a way or another as most redacting have been registered as being of his doing. Princess Celestia has indicated her lack of knowledge about any group her old mentor could have been a part off aside from the solar mages. --------------------------- Originally I tried another style soooo, little bonus !

An AU where the Elements of Harmony as physical objects never existed. It was just a title and gift/curse given by the Deity that is the tree of harmony. An Element bearer is one chosen by the Tree to be one of the many possible heroes of their time, and the possibility of becoming a demigod to keep the universe in balance is on the table.

Celestia and Luna were chosen to bear the burden of the day and night for the rest of time, Elements and Demigods of Day and Night.

Discord is the Tree of Harmony's opposite and equal. Although he is much more mobile than the Tree. He is the God of Chaos/Disharmony and the Tree God of Harmony/Order.

Starswirl was the Element of Wisdom. Fkash Magnus the Element of Courage. Mist Mane the Element of sacrifice. Somnambula the Element of Patience. Rockhoof the Element of Persistence. Mage Meadowbrook the Element of Healing. And Stygian the Element of Guidance. No one really remembers Stygian and how he guided the others together, to threats that needed stopped, or how he discovered and guided the others to the Tree of Harmony.

Both the tree of harmony and Discord can seem rather uncaring to mortals. They are gods and hold no allegiances to anyone but themselves and to keeping the universe intact. They may seem cold and heartless and are morally grey and a neutral party. But someone has to do the not so fun job of keeping the universe in balance, and the tree and Discord were literally born into that job. They know nothing else but their duties as gods of harmony and disharmony.

Optional addition- Discord has an equivalent to the Trees Element roles it gifts/curses. Although he's not so fancy with naming, in fact he just calls them the Discorded. Let them give themselves their own fancy titles and get dramatic with it, Discord loves dramatics! Sombra and Tirek would be possible examples of a Discorded.

Just thinking about a TFP mlp au... I feel like Megatron would somehow be an Earth Pony that ascended into an Alicorn. Ruins his message a bit, but I don't see how he could otherwise oppose OP who totally is an Alicorn.

Hmmm so I have a few ideas that can help with this.

It could be like Sunny's situation where he's only an alicorn part time. It could be like one of the other characters, the villain who came with Starswirl's group. The kid who ended up being corrupted into a dangerous force.

... wait that actually might be our best option: I exactly see an opportunity here to directly make a comparison between dark magic and dark energon because remember the alicorn amulet Trixie got? Just me? She might've been a unicorn, and that's who we usually see fucking with magic, but we know for a damn fact that yes earth ponies have magic. So we can fully go that route here.

1/? next Starswirl the bearded : alicorn of magic Starswirl is the first pony to ever reach alicornhood on his own mean. Son of the royal sorcerer of the time, he grew isolated in the palace of the old unicorn capital, the Crystal City. Learning all he could about magic, he was tasked very young to search for a way to beat the windigoos or warm up the grounds of Equus. Becoming the greatest magician of his time, he was the teacher of numerous talented unicorns, notably the famous Clever the Clover who became the teacher of the last unicorn princess. Though his most famous disciples were Celestia and Luna, who became the alicorn sisters. His wearing of bells is actually due to the last unicorn king who ordered him to wear them after scaring him multiple times with his untimely silent appearance. The bells never managed to stop him from surprising people. His becoming an alicorn happened thanks to his research of the unity magic discovered by Clever the Clover. He disappeared mysteriously a few years before the break between the new found Equestria and Equus. The habitants of the new-found territories wishing for a new government planned for all ponykind instead of multiples smaller ones working together. Equus alas disappeared in the years following due to the windigoos, becoming the Great Frozen North which, even to this day, is fulled of ruins of the previous pony civilizations. The only city which survived being the ancient unicorn capital, renamed at the time the Crystal Empire, which developped partially underground under the rule of the last unicorn king who offered his heart to his kingdom to offer it the warmth it needed to survive. At the very least, it is what history remembers. ------------

Stygian is an earth pony of a little seaside town. The town, which name has been forgotten, is sometimes used as an example of the deadtowns from the very beginning of Equestria. Sometimes named Seahorse Side, this very small town barely reached the few dozens habitants at its biggest. Its proximity with the sea made the grounds around extremely salted and difficult to grow crops from. The lack of monetary means of the little city prevented them from paying for weather control from pegasi or help from the unicorns. The big mystery of Seahorse though is that a few reports were found of sudden help to the town despite no hint of payment ever being found. Some historians have heard of this name due to the mystery around him. No one knows of his link to that town. The only known thing about him is his sudden appearance in Starswirl's related documentation before disappearing a few days before the alicorn. No documents were found explaining who or what he was, only that he got examined by doctors of the capital. A notebook about different kinds of monsters is sometimes linked to him due to its presence amongst Starswirl's possessions despite not having his horn-writing nor any of his known disciples. Studies of the writing revealed than it was writing by hoof which is really unsual on unicorn-ground. Some of the hypothesis are than he may have been a charity-case with a non-fonctionning horn and an accident happened with whatever cure the wizard tried. Another, preferred by the public despite being considered highly unlikely by expert is than he may have been a love-child of Starswirl with a pegasus or earth pony mare who died young, his death somehow convincing the alicorn to begin some kind of travel due to his grief. Most historians though kind of ignore his presence, considering than he is of no importance or possibly some kind of jokes due to no proof of his existance ever being found.

An AU where the show takes place a thousand years ago during the early years of Equestria.

Twilight Sparkle is a unicorn wizard, a bit of a recluse at first. She was a student of Starswirl the Bearded before his disappearance, so she is one of the few ponies to get to know the celestial sisters more closely. She considers Luna her best friend, and Celestia like her older sister. She is asked to study a recent discovery within the ever free forest, the Tree of Harmony and the Elements that lay within it. She has a Dragon named Spike she hatched herself, accidentally during a magic surge, and has raised him as her son ever since that fated day. It's how she got her cutie mark, and became the student of Starswirl the Bearded himself.

How does Twilight meet the other main six? Do they all have the same talents and names? How different is their childhoods and upbringings compared to canon? Are they the same elements of harmony as canon? How does the time-line of events work?

How would Nightmare Moon work in this au? I think Nightmare Moon would happen much later due to having Twilight Sparkle as her friend for a long time, and it become closer and closer the longer Twilight and the others have to be away doing hero things. Kinda like Moondancer in canon but make it Luna, make it a thousand years ago, and the consequences are Nightmare Moon. She's still upset at her sister obviously, but I think feeling abandoned by her friends as well as her sister would add alot to Nightmare Moon. Nightmare Moon plus, Nightmare Moon Electric Boogaloo More Angst 2. She would be an end of the season episodes.
