I know we all get heartbroken at Rufios death, but what pisses me off is that when Peter comes back and takes over the mantle that he left Rufio to take over (which he did amazingly) and the next day he leaves Rufio alone with Hook with a DIRECT order not to fight. Rufio doesn't know who he is other than being the leader of the Lost Boys. Hook KNOWS he can beat Rufio, and he goats him into going toe to toe with him JUST TO HURT PETER. Hook KNOWS Rufio can't ignore the call of greatness should he be the one to defeat him. It's sad because once you understand that, you know the fight is over once he starts calling Rufios name.

I'm writing a paper on Goncharov right now and I can sooth your nerves that the difference between Gonch and whatever's happening on tiktok is not the fake media. Fake media and fake people and fake history will always and has always existed. Neither is the collective storytelling.

The difference is that we made Goncharov real by imitating a fandom for it. Like yes mass hallucinating a movie was fun and an incredible feat of collective creativity. But the *way* we created Goncharov is what will always make it special.

We, as a website, spontaneously created a perfect pastiche of fandom, one that was so identical to any other fandom behaviour it made the movie seem real.

As I quote thetwistyoucantresist in my paper, “maybe the real Goncharov was the Fandom we made along the way”.

Publishing has always been a fucking nightmare, but now it’s a layer of hell. It’s not enough that writers be good at what they do. Writers have to maintain an active social media presence and cultivate a following. Be available.

They have to be conventionally attractive enough to look good enough to see on a screen, aesthetically pleasing, kind, funny, up-to-date on trends, socially aware but not so controversial that they turn off a brand from California from slapping their discount code on a video promoting a book.

They have to do all of this with no media training, with little help from the companies that are supposed to be doing this for them.

Of course, a lot of this isn't possible for say, the 40-something mother of two who teaches English at a school and writes on the side. She’s boxed out of an already complex industry that already has enough walls.

On some level, I think authors have always marketed themselves a little, but we’ve reached such a crazy point where we’re demanding the author become the influencer. Accessibility in publishing has narrowed from an inch to a sliver. And that inch was hard enough to get in as is.

i was thinking about not saying anything because really i just want peace amongst the lands but as a person who likes torturing herself on bad social media sites i wanna say the situation with the 'movie is better vs show is better' thing isn't as simple as two camps sprouting simultaneously.

if anything, after the movie was premiered in theatres and leaked there was this camp who saw it that very loudly and harshly spread this whole hate campaign on the show, straight up worshipped the movie like it was the best thing since sliced bread, just started hating on the show like they were antis. in all honesty some people talked like they were being PAID. because 'movie is way better than the shitty show!!' was all i could see on twitter for over a month and i didn't watch it so i was like um maybe it really is groundbreaking?

but then the movie officially released and all of a sudden i saw a lot more 'tbh i didn't think it was that great' takes pop up in replies and comments and posts. it was evening out and then i started to see 'just let people enjoy the movie!! stop bullying us for preferring it over the show!' tweets and 'theres two cakes!! can't we just eat!!' type posts. and i genuinely think most people (on tumblr) want to keep the peace and aren't trying to cause harm. but it puts a slightly bitter taste in my mouth because people were straight up harassing thomas astruc over how the movie did everything so good and his show version was so awful lousy and cringefail. and regardless of how he responded or what your opinion is of him ifl people went too far in their 'support' of the movie at the expense of the show. and having this context and knowing how awful people have been could be sort of... eye-opening? i guess?

because its one thing for two camps to suddenly start fighting. its another when one side was poking the bear for no reason whatsoever for AGES only to start victimizing themselves when the opposite happened (and never usually to the same extent)

i've been watching some of the newer doctor who stuff lately because i hadn't caught up apparently and it was alright i guess. I really wanted to like 13 and her story but a lot of the plot stuff I just could not be made to care about. It just feels so detached and impersonal compared to basically everything with 12. idk. I have mixed feelings on the whole thing.

it obviously has existed before then but new readers/watchers of dungeon meshi have had interactions that have solidified my hatred of a certain phenomenon, which is when somebody has a question or just observation about a piece of media, which is answered later in the piece of media, and is therefore currently a spoiler to them

I made some slight changes to the color scheme but for the most part it looks pretty much canon. I just didn't want to use too bright of a green for the skin. Lastly I used a lot more markers as opposed to colored pencils and it turned out a lot better than I expected!
