As I have written before, the flowers on this tree are big compared to most others that we see in the UK at about 12cm ( 4 3/4 inches). Magnolia Grandiflora is native to the South-Western United States, so it is used to a warmer climate and flowers in Spring there. This blooming flower was happily at our level. A stop of underexposure was used here to keep the white flowers from clipping and also to tone down the surrounding foliage.

Drawn to the ancient enigma, the Magnolia grandiflora tree of Michel Roudnitska’s childhood summers planted a seed. “I was so fascinated by this unusual scent I decided that one day I would reproduce it.
