Hello community!
We've asked to our spotlighted artist Yuan He to provide an exclusive picture for Brickcentral along with some insights on how he made it, and here's what he have to say:
"I’m an interior designer, therefore most of my MOC projects are setting up in interior spaces or architectural scenes. I haven’t done too many projects in natural environment, which sometimes I found it very challenging and interesting. In this shot, I wanted to create a scene of bunch of friends gathering together in a forest, sort of like a camping trip, and in this case, it’s the characters from Winnie the pooh. In this project, in order to hide the boundary of the scene and creating a more realistic environment, I designed some rocky structure on the back, along with some trees and bushes. There is an awning at the center, and the friends of Winnie are playing music, telling stories and dancing, surrounding a fire pit, enjoying themselves and having fun. I planned the scene to be set in night time, in that way I can create contrast of cold and warm lighting colors in this shot, and the viewer can easily focus on the characters, to experience their joy.
Tumblr media
Despite the scene looks complicated, it’s actually a relatively simple scene, just lots of random items and repeatable steps, and takes time to build. I spent almost two weeks on it, most of the time are just placing flowers, grasses and trees.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As I mentioned this is a night time scene, I needed to set up some camping lighting to light up the awning area. I’m using micro-LED lights inside of the translucent bricks, but they are not that bright, just for decorative purpose. Another light source is in the fire pit, again it’s not bright, but sometimes it would be helpful to add more details at the scene.
Tumblr media
After posting all the minifigures, and it’s time for the big boys to actually light up the whole scene. As you can see in this photo, I have 4 blue lighting fixtures to create the night time atmosphere. The two tubes on the back are for slightly lighting up the blue backdrop paper, to separate the trees and also mimicking the night sky, will get into that later. Besides of those, the front left light is serving the purpose of creating the general blue-sky light at night, which can be reflected on the front elements like trees, grasses etc. There is only one warm lights in front of the scene, since those decorative micro-LED lights are too weak, this small cube light is the key to light up the awning and minifigures, and generating a growing spot at the center. The small LED tube at the front right acts as a fill light, specifically for brightening minifigures, restores more details on the dark side.
Tumblr media
If we are shooting indoor, there are few tricks to create more realistic background for the photos. I used to have my computer monitor as a background to simulate the sky, distanced buildings etc. But sometimes it can be tricky, I might need to adjust lighting and monitor brightness levels to accommodate each other, or my scene is just too big to move. In this project, since the trees needed to be blended in with the “sky”, I’m using a blue paper as a backdrop to creates more depth on the scene and making it look bigger, it works great for night scene, but different scenarios like broad daylight might be too bland for just using a paper.
Tumblr media
Hope you enjoy this project and found it useful for creating your LEGO photos. I’ve learned a lot from other amazing photographers and creators all these years, I found it very interesting and inspiring to watch how others create their amazing photos. And like I said earlier, for LEGO photographers, camera gears are not that important, what matters is how your story want to be told."
Thanks for all the insights Yuan He! If you want to read this artist profile, head to our blog at https://brickentral.net/ - @theaphol, Community Outreach Manager

I have no idea how tumblr works so I'll just post a picture of my recent work. Its Saurus Warrior with red scales, white back spikes, some golden accessoires and a moonstone (?) Club which I made with bronce and some purple wash :D
But of course I wanna get better both in taking pictures of my minis to show and painting my minis so if you got any tips to get better in any of them, I'd be happy to listen ^-^
Here some more angles

The shield is probably one of the things that I need to redo as it feels like its not exactly what I wanted.
Please be aware of the fact I'm somewhat new to this.

editing aesthetic photos
Tumblr media
start with the basics: before diving into fancy filters and effects, make sure your photo is well-lit and properly exposed. natural light is your best friend here, so try to shoot during the golden hour (just before sunset or after sunrise) for that warm, soft glow.
play with colors: experiment with different color palettes to set the mood of your photo. for a strawberry vibe, think soft pinks, creamy whites, and muted pastels. for a sunset look, go for warm oranges, deep reds, and golden yellows. and for a sweet pink filter, well, you guessed it—think all shades of pink, from blush to bubblegum.
enhance contrast: boosting the contrast can add depth and drama to your photos, making the colors pop and the details stand out. just be careful not to overdo it—subtle adjustments are usually all you need.
add a touch of warmth: adjust the temperature and tint settings to give your photos that cozy, inviting feel. a slightly warmer tone can make your subjects appear more vibrant and alive, while a hint of pink or peach can add a romantic, ethereal quality.
experiment with filters: don't be afraid to play around with filters and presets to give your photos that extra oomph. look for ones that enhance the colors and textures you want to highlight, whether it's a soft, vintage-inspired filter for a nostalgic feel or a bold, high-contrast filter for a more dramatic look.
focus on composition: pay attention to the composition of your photos, making sure to frame your subjects in a visually appealing way. experiment with different angles, perspectives, and focal points to create interest and intrigue.
fine-tune the details: don't forget to fine-tune the little details to make your photos really shine. adjust the exposure, shadows, highlights, and sharpness to achieve the perfect balance and make your subjects stand out.
keep it natural: while it's fun to play around with editing tools and effects, remember to keep it natural and authentic. avoid heavy-handed edits that make your photos look overly processed or artificial—sometimes less is more.

No Bananas
Tumblr media
Musa lasiocarpa or Golden Lotus Banana looking like lotus flowers in the Gardens by the Bay. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.
This plant is apparently closely related to bananas but it won’t produce any bananas.
After having photographed single blooms before, we had been wanting to get at least a couple of them in the same frame. Happily for us though, more have been blooming recently. Although they were quite far apart, this was at least one of the desired views.

By Ken James: The emerald color of this lake in N Cascades NP is absolutely breathtaking. Finding a good composition was a bit of a challenge for me on this day until I spotted this boathouse. I've noticed that what helps if I'm having trouble with compositions is to close my eyes for 2 minutes, then view the scene from a fresh perspective. Sometimes, I do this more than once, but 90% of the time, it works every time 🙃.

TIPS: THINKING BETTER CONCEPTS FOR YOUR PHOTOS
Continuing with the tips on how to think about better concepts for photos, I bring my 2nd example:
The idea was to portray an exchange of glances, a momentary and fleeting love. Who has never quickly crossed paths with another person, had a momentary exchange of glances, fell in love for a split second and then carried on with life normally, without even knowing who the other person was? This is the situation I want to portray.
Tumblr media
I started by choosing the environment and the best place to portray the intense flow of rushing people is a train station in an urban center, where many people pass each other and no one knows each other. Train station are an excellent portrait of impermanence, where everything flows, everything is fleeting, just like the feeling we want to represent in the photo.
Tumblr media
The second element is the lovers. I portrayed them both in youthful clothes, to indicate their youth, an age more prone to this feeling. Both are wearing hats, as a sign of combination, harmony between them. Their gazes are deeply connected and they smile at each other: this is the split second that their eyes meet and magic happens. The lighting projected by the skylight highlights the characters' smiles and contrasts with the gray of the season and the cloudy weather. With this I tried to represent that it is the small everyday emotions that illuminate and color our days.
Tumblr media
There are other details purposefully included in the image. There are 4 people around the “couple”, although the top character on the left (in a white coat) is almost imperceptible. These people create balance and stability for the image (square shape), along with the station portal that serves as a frame. There is a sequence of horizontal lines that also give stability to the scene. On the other side, a series of diagonal lines converge in the center and direct the viewer's gaze towards the “couple”.
Tumblr media
Next week I will share the creative process I used in another image. See you there.
