I have thoughts about this and I’ll probably make a more in depth post later but a lot of people say that Adora is “so out of character” in the Magicatra verse and I don’t think that’s entirely true cause the way I see it is they essentially wouldn’t have the same childhood growing up as they do in canon (cause the only reason Adora was favored over Catra was cause she was powerful to Shadow Weaver as we’ve established in episodes like “Light Spinner”. And really the only reason Catra was abused the way she was was cause Shadow Weaver felt like she was “getting in the way” of her trying to manipulate Adora if that makes sense) but at the same time I don’t think she’d get the “Catra treatment” sorta speak.

I’m definitely going to sleep on this idea but I’ll explain it more later when I have the time

Featuring some of the scenes that I first wrote out from this AU, and the end of the beginning. Catra and Adora both take the first steps of their future destinies, and Shadow Weaver begins to outsmart herself.

This Sunday Chapter one of "Crushing Reality" sequel to "A Debt Repaid" will be posted and updated every Sunday. I have a good amount of chapters pre written and intend to keep up a 1 to 3 ratio at all times. (One chapter posted, three more written.) This way if any life problems happen I can always get updates out without leaving you waiting. So excited to start posting again! In the meantime have some pre-Horde Catra and Cyra!💜💜💜

It's been awhile since I went through all my stories, so I figured this would be a good time (before I start my next multi-chapter fic) to do a little organizing.

So here's a list of all my multi-chapter works for easy access:

'Cause There's Magic In My Bones (Magicatra AU) : Easily my most ambitious project - a three-part series about Catra as She-Ra. Obviously extremely canon divergent, minor warnings for extremely low self-esteem and temporary sort of character death. Fun Fact: Every title, including the title of the overall series, comes from an Imagine Dragons song.

I have faced it, a life wasted: The very first She-Ra AU I ever wrote. Catra and Adora reunite after not speaking for 8 years following Catra crashing a car they were in while driving drunk. The reunion brings a few unpleasant secrets to light. Major Themes: Alcoholism and Recovery, Abusive Mothers, Chronic Pain, Head Injuries.

Always A Heartbeat From Me: Werewolf/Werecat childhood best friends to lovers AU. Adora and Catra grow up together in a wonderful and loving environment, where they can be themselves and love each other, until tragedy strikes, and both their worlds fall apart. Major Themes: CHARACTER DEATH, fake character death, GRIEF, trauma. This story has a happy ending, but it takes a hot minute to get to it.

All Eyes On Me: Drunken Dial/Wrong Number AU. Catra is a retired musician dealing with years of abuse by her record label, Adora accidentally calls her after mixing up the digits in her friend's new phone number. Yes the title is from the Bo Burnham song. Major Themes: Abuse in a professional setting, Coming out, Transgenderism

The Day The Sun Vanished: Alien AU based on The Sun Vanished ARG. Horde Prime's forces invade the planet, taking out all sources of light to drive people out of their homes and make them easier to capture. Best friends Adora and Catra survive several weeks alone in their homes before they're force to flee into the world.

It's dangerous to go alone: Streamer AU. Adora and Catra dated and broke up five years ago after crazy fans of Adora's YouTube channel went after Catra, driving her off the Internet and across the country to escape it. Now she's remaking her online persona, and will be facing Adora again. Yes, the title is from the Legend of Zelda. This story's been described as "a love letter to video games", and that sticks with me.

Leap of Faith: In one universe, Adora is Spider-Woman, with the help of her best friend Catra. In another universe, Catra is Spider-Cat, with the help of her best friend Adora. Unfortunately, every hero has a tragic back story. Fortunately, the multi-verse has other ideas. Title is from Into The Spider-Verse, with all the chapter titles being songs from that soundtrack. MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH.

Little Wonders: Catra and Adora (who is trans but very not out as a teenager) have a relationship in high school that mysteriously ends when Catra is sent to a new foster home and never contacts Adora again. Ten years later, Catra's child walks into Adora's fifth-grade classroom. Major Themes: Transgenderism, long lost lovers, surprise you're a parent, teen pregnancy

chipped Adora edit/drawing I made cuz I feel like chipped Adora AUs are such an underutilised concept, and I don't get why because it honestly makes so much sense.

So anyone who watches shera knows adora never had the most self-worth, but throughout Season 4, especially after she breaks the sword and loses shera, and through Season 5, I feel her self esteem is definitely of its worst, so, it makes a lot of sense prime world take advantage of that.

and there's barely any content of it, and most of what is out there is Swap AUs (Magicatra and Horde!Adora) And there isn't anything wrong with that, I enjoy them, but I wish there was more with our canon Adora. With prime getting shera, and the rebellion needing to fight their becon of hope.

Thoughts On The Magicatraverse (pt1 of Many: The Childhood)

Ok so now that I’ve had some time to think about this I’m gonna put all my thoughts out there in a few parts mostly to discuss different plot points. Also, I do apologize if this uhhh... “think piece” I guess you can call it is all over the place mostly cause I have a lot of thoughts on this and it’s all over the place and I’m not going to be formatting this like it’s a high school essay cause high school was like 4 years ago for me at this point. With all that being said, let’s get into it.

So, one of my first thoughts is that there are generally two (sometimes three) different stories that are told during the au. Either, 1) the sword was originally meant for Adora but somehow Catra gets her hands on the powers of it and She-ra. 2) the power was meant for Catra from the get-go and the power of Shera comes not from the First Ones but the Magicats (Catra’s people). Or 3) Adora still has the sword and the powers of She-ra but She’s the one that stays with the Horde and Catra is the one that ends up with the Rebellion. However, with that third option, it really isn’t falling into the Magicatra verse as much as it is just a “Rebellion Catra au” which Trust me are two Totally separate things if we’re talking about fanfictions and stuff like that so we’re just going to be shoving that third option off to the side for now.

Now, something that most people seem to generally agree upon on the au is that by around season 4ish, Adora is able to overpower both Shadow Weaver and Hordak and essentially become what the fandom has called “Horde Lord Adora”. Now, most peoples complaints about this is that Adora seems “out of character” in the fact that she’s perceived as this ruthless overtaker that is able to crush Etheria in her fist.

Now my main issue with this depends on what story people like to tell. If we go about the first way people tell the story then arguably they’d have close to the same childhood as told in canon cause if the power was originally meant for Adora then it’s arguable that Shadow Weaver would treat the two the same way during childhood up until Catra is able to get her hands on the power of Shera. But if That’s the case, then I don’t think Shadow Weaver would make Adora try to go fetch Catra in the same way that Shadow Weaver makes Catra fetch Adora in the first few episodes of S1; not to say that Adora wouldn’t try to go off and fetch Catra herself I’m just saying that Shadow Weaver probably wouldn’t make her be the one to do it. (where Catra uses that to her advantage to show Hordak that Shadow Weaver is misguided in her role as second in command and how she ends up climbing the power ladder in the Horde) (In fact if I’m to be completely honest she’d probably try to do some fucked up Shadow Weaver thing and take the power from Catra entirely and try to give it to Adora because it’s Shadow Weaver and of course she’d probably try something like that.) 

Moreso, if Adora already has the Force Captain title and is already Shadow Weavers favorite then in reality Shadow Weaver would be shoving more responsibility onto her in order to climb the ranks faster in order to take over Etheria. And it would probably be easier for Shadow Weaver to accomplish this because Catra is out of the way (that is until the two start seeing each other on the battlefield more often and I think that they would probably have the same amount of sexual tension and banter that they usually do in canon). And Shadow Weaver would probably feel that Adora is getting “distracted” by this; and thus, puts even MORE pressure on Adora while she’s in the Horde thus probably changing some components of her character like while she does resent Shadow Weaver in the show she’s more so scared of her at first but I think we’d probably skip that step and she’d probably be showing the angry bitterness that Catra was showing during the time that she was in the horde in canon. Hell, I’d probably even argue that it would be Easier for Adora to overthrow Shadow Weaver than Catra did cause even though people don’t like to admit this, Adora is CUNNING (which is why I believe that she’d actually make a very good Slytherin if we did a whole Hogwarts au thing however JK is a terf and we don’t support that behavior in this household.)

Now if we were to tell it from the other foot where Shera comes from the Magicats and thus Shadow Weaver knew this then we could flip the coin that she’d treat Catra better in their childhood however that wouldn’t be a flip flop where Catra was suddenly goody two shoes over here. Essentially what I’m trying to say is that we wouldn’t take Adora’s character and shove it into Catra and vice versa like a lot of people like to explain the au. However, in that same vein, I don’t think that Adora would be getting physically abused in the same way that Catra was cause remember that the way Shadow Weaver was able to manipulate Adora was by punishing Catra and making Adora feel at fault for it, “if only you kept a better eye on her” “if only you could keep her out of trouble” so on and so forth. With Catra, that simply Wouldn’t Work; cause Adora and Catra are separate people with separate physics and Shadow Weaver tells Catra that one of the reasons she treated her the way she did was “cause she sees herself in Catra” (that’s a hard maybe at best. Cause Shadow Weaver was just someone who craved power, Catra was really just misguided in thinking that power would be a good substitute for happiness/Adora and we all saw how THAT worked out for her. And in the Horde, really the way to get to the top/simply surviving is by being the best but really can you blame her?)

 Ok I’m going to make another part to this to discuss the more specifics of Horde Lord Adora and how I think she and the story would differ than what’s told in canon cause I think that there are certain things like the “Catra losing her position/Hordak not trusting her arc” in season 2 that I think wouldn’t happen mostly cause I think Adora would go about things a different way and mostly cause it would just be a rehash of the show just with the characters flip flopped. Anyways like I said, that’s a story for another day.
