Summary: Ben has known Kilmer's grandmother, Madame Hauntly, since he was nine. This story chronicles their friendship and the ways in which it changes throughout the decades while also telling Mrs. Jeepers' love story. All the children still believe Madame Hauntly, Mrs. Jeepers and Boris Hauntly are vampires and that Mrs. Jeepers' ex-boyfriend is a really werewolf. Turns out they're right! Now what?

Chapter One:
~◇~
Ben had never met anyone like Kilmer Hauntly’s grandmother. Madame Catalina Hauntly was a willowy, pale woman with a Romanian accent, green eyes and raven black hair that fell to her hips. She wore a black dress so long it hid her feet and had lengthy, bright green fingernails that seemed to glow in the dark.
Most adults said she was weird. Children in the neighborhood thought she was a vampire. Ben didn’t care. He adored her.
Madame Hauntly was different from other grandmothers. She only came out at night, told the most amazing stories and loved to climb trees. Ben always spent time with her when she visited the Hauntlys.
Well…not always.
Ben sighed.
He’d broken an arm a week ago doing stunts on his skateboard. The cast itched!
He tried to use a fork to scratch the skin beneath the fiberglass, but that ended the moment his mom saw. She confiscated the fork and sent him to his room.
Ben plopped down in front of his bedroom window to watch all his neighbors go about their day. Mr. Davis, the principle at Bailey Elementary, watered his garden and shooed Kilmer’s cat Sparky off his lawn. Ben waved to Mr. Lobo, the music teacher, who had been spending his free time at Mrs. Jeepers’ repairing and renovating the old Clancy Estate.
Annie and Jane ran by on their way to the local playground to play soccer with Carey, Eddie and the other kids.
“We’re going to Doodleburger afterward. Want us to pick you up a milkshake?” Annie asked.
Ben shook his head. “It would melt by the time you brought it back. Thanks anyway though.”
Jane shrugged. “Suit yourself.”
Ben watched them hurry down Dedman Street and disappear around the corner. He wished he could go, but all the jostling would mess up his arm worse than it already was.
What bummed Ben out most was knowing he’d have to miss out on Madame Hauntly’s visit. She was due to arrive early that evening.
He wouldn’t get to hear about her childhood home at the feet of the Transylvania Alps, learn more about the Hauntly family history or take her to a movie at the cinema that had just opened over on Main Street. Ben knew how much she liked dark, cool places.
He and Kilmer had planned on treating her to dinner at Jewel’s Pizza Castle. Madame Hauntly had promised they’d all climb the old oak tree together.
“This stinks!” Ben glared at his cast. “I can’t climb trees or play ball with this stupid thing stuck on my arm.”
He tried playing video games, but it was practically impossible to reach the next level when he only had one good arm. He eventually gave up and turned off the television figuring he’d skip supper and go to bed early.
Ben was beginning to doze off when he heard a tapping at his window. He turned over to see what it was then remembered he’d closed the drapes. He slid off the bed and pulled them open.
Nothing.
Ben frowned. “Huh? I could’ve sworn I heard-“
A face appeared in the window. Ben cried out and jumped back before realizing it was Madame Hauntly perched gracefully on the ledge outside his window.
“I didn’t mean to frighten you,” she said. “Kilmer told me about your arm. I hope it isn’t causing you pain.”
“I’m okay. It’s just…I can’t have any fun with my arm stuck in a cast. The doctor says I’ll have to keep it on until the bone heals. How am I gonna play sports or climb stuff with this thing?”
Madame Hauntly hummed in thought. “Well, climbing trees and playing sports might be out of the question until your arm is healed, but there are other ways to have fun.”
“Like what?”
Madame Hauntly smiled giving him a glimpse of her sharp eye teeth. “A movie? Or pizza and ice cream, perhaps? I spoke to your parents. You and I will be eating pizza and going to see a movie. Wash up and meet me out in the yard. Kilmer and the others are waiting for us.”
Ben perked up. “Really?”
Madame Hauntly smiled. “Of course, silly boy. Did you think I would exclude you from being part of my visit because of your injury?”
“I didn’t hink you’d want me around slowing you down,” he admitted.
“Oh, darling…” She patted his shoulder. “I am your friend as much as you are Kilmer’s. I will always make time for you.”
Ben smiled genuinely for the first time since he’d fallen from his skateboard. “Kilmer’s right. You’re the best.”
Madame Hauntly laughed. “I am not the best, but I certainly appreciate the compliment. I will wait for you outside.”
Ben threw on clean clothes and ran his hand through his hair. A quick glance in the mirror and he was on his way out the door.
Maybe having a broken arm isn’t so bad after all,” he mused, keeping in step with Madame Hauntly as they headed toward the pizza castle.
Madame Hauntly noticed him staring at her and offered him a reassuring smile. She didn’t act like other adults. Ben believed wholeheartedly that she was the coolest person in Bailey City.
After they were done eating and the movie had ended, Madame Hauntly took all the kids back to Hauntly Manor Inn. Ben sat on one of the dirt mounds in the conservatory while she told stories about Romania and the Transylvania Alps.
“It is late,” she said, “I will walk you all home.”
She made sure everyone made it safely back to their houses. It was past midnight, but Ben just couldn’t sleep, so he snuck out the back door and struggled up the ladder of his tree house.
He was less than half way there when a hand gripped his ankle. He gasped and looked down to see Madame Hauntly standing at the base of the tree.
“You should be in bed resting,” the Hauntly matriarch stated as she helped him back down. "It is not good to climb about with a broken arm. I do not wish to see you harmed”
“I can’t sleep,” he explained.
“Is it your arm? Does it hurt?” she asked. “I can speak to your mother. She ought to be able to give you something to quell the pain.”
Ben shook his head. “It’s not that. I just had so much fun that it’s hard to turn my brain off.”
Madame Hauntly nodded in understanding. “You must have a lot on your mind. Would you like to share your thoughts with me? I am a good listener.”
Ben sat on the grass and leaned his back against the tree while Madame Hauntly made herself comfortable on one of the low lying branches above.
True to her word, she listened as he told her about school and stuff going on in his family. He talked to her about his favorite games and how he and his dad were training so he could try out for the football team next year.
After another hour or two, Ben grew tired and ended up falling asleep. Madame Hauntly lifted the exhausted fourth grader and carried him up to his room.
How she ever managed to do so without waking either him or his parents, Ben didn’t know. He woke the following morning in his bed with a blanket draped over his body and a leaf stuck in his hair. If Madame Hauntly was a vampire, she was the good kind.

RE: Bailey School Kids discussion part 2
@aurorasilverthorne
I'm wondering if vampires can or will eat regular food in tiny doses since Madame Hauntly drinks a strawberry doodlegum shake in "Vampire Trouble". Grandpa Vamps also mentions being on an all liquid diet in "Mrs. Jeepers' Creepy Christmas". Maybe tomato juice is just Mrs. Jeepers' personal preference when not drinking blood? I'm assuming Mrs. Jeepers or the human cook was in charge of the Romanian menu else wise they would've dined on some super strange food dishes.
Really good point! I remember thinking that was really strange! I kept thinking she must have glamoured the wait staff when she ordered her shake and got them to put blood in it instead, when the kids weren't looking lol.
It just depends on the vampire story if vampires can consume human food or not. Many times they can, even though it doesn't do anything for them at all. But they're still able to enjoy the taste. Other stories have the food taste totally repulsive to them, though they can force it down, and still others have them puke up anything they attempt to eat that isn't human blood. So it varies a lot. If Mrs.Jeepers family has some human blood or other types of monster blood in them, maybe that makes it possible for them to consume other stuff too. Not being pure vampire may mean they don't have to consume a pure vampire menu at all times.
Boris could be goofing around by naming his foods odd things just to feed the kids' belief that he and the rest of his family are indeed monsters while also letting the kids know that they're not a threat to humans as there's never any human flesh or blood on the Hauntlys' menu. I'd be worried about Mrs. Jeepers if I were one of her school kids and all I ever saw her eat or drink was tomato juice. I'd bring her snacks just to see if she'd eat them.
hahaha!! I love this! And it would explain why Carrie could drink it and be just fine. The only time they ever offered Mrs.Jeepers any food is when Eddie offered that ancient cookie in the Leprechauns Don't Play Fetch and she was like "thanks" and dropped it in her purse LOL. I would say most people would have been disgusted by that, but she lives in a VERY dusty house, so it probably was pretty normal for her lol. What I don't get is why none of the adults ever comment or offer Mrs.Jeepers something else. She just sips her tomato juice all the time and nobody comments or notices except the kids and they never say anything directly to her about it. Not even a comment of "Wow, you must really like the taste of tomatoes. You're always drinking that stuff." lol
Side Note: WHY do these vampires prefer to live in dusty, broken houses? I don't get it. Ancestral dirt to sleep in I understand! But not caring about cleaning? Or deliberately making a brand-new home dusty like Hauntly Manor Inn? What the hell? I always have to mark that trait off as a stupid thing they did so it felt "Halloween" enough for the kid readers. Weirdo food aside, there's no reason to want to live in filth.
Boris did eat meat and bread while Justine Hauntly and Mrs. Jeepers ate cheese in "Mrs. Jeepers' Batty Vacation". I'm guessing they can eat regular food if they want, but only do so when they are around humans to throw off suspicion if others start questioning them about their dietary choices.
You're right. I had to reread that scene, but Boris was dipping black bread into red sauce and Justine and Mrs. Jeepers were dipping cheese into the red sauce. They also ate pieces of red meat, which suggests under-cooked meat with plenty of blood left in it. But none of them touched the garlic noodles the kids were eating. I'm assuming that's because they had garlic in them, which we know Mrs.Jeepers has allergies to. But WHY did they make those noodles garlic? I don't get it. Why would you feed those kids something you're allergic to? Will eating garlic make the kids smell bad and therefore the vampires in the family will find it easier to NOT drink from them? Or is this some kind of secret protection against neighboring vampire families like that Vlad person Edwardo fought?

“Did you hear they hired a new music teacher?” Melody asked. “He starts today!”
“So?” Eddie demanded. “He’s just another teacher.”
“I heard he’s from South America,” Liza said.
“That’s all we need,” Eddie muttered, slumping in his chair. “Another crazy teacher with a dumb accent.”
“I heard he used to be a criminal and had to leave his country,” Howie chimed in.
They all grew quiet when their teacher, Mrs. Jeepers, entered the room. All the kids thought she was a vampire because her eyes flashed when she was unhappy and she wore a green brooch. It had to be magic since it glowed when she touched it and it seemed to be able to make naughty students sit down and behave.
She wore a white dress with scarlet polka dots under a dark green vest with black boots. Her curly sunset red hair was tied back with a black silk ribbon.
She wrote some sentences on the blackboard then turned to address the class.
“Good morning children. Today we will focus on our writing skills. I want you all to rewrite each one of these sentences using the proper punctuation and spelling.”
Liza raised her hand.
Mrs. Jeepers gave her an odd little half smile. “Yes, Liza? You have a question?”
“Mrs. Jeepers, when are we going to get to meet the new music teacher?”
Eddie rolled his eyes.
Mrs. Jeepers’ smile faded.
She touched her brooch. Everyone sat straight up in their chairs. “I...I was not informed we would have a new teacher.”
“We found out this morning,” Melody told her. “Some kids were talking about it on their way to school.”
Their teacher had a thick Romanian accent when she spoke. “I am sure we will meet this new teacher soon enough. Let’s just focus on the task at hand, shall we?”
Ever since the spit ball incident a month earlier, Eddie had done his best to keep a low profile. He’d made the mistake of angering Mrs. Jeepers once. He wasn't willing to do it again. Their teacher wasn't a normal woman.
He still hadn’t told the others what he’d seen when the third grade teacher pulled him out into the hall to discuss his bad behavior. Nor would he. The flash of sharp, long eye teeth along with the warning that'd followed after still rang in his ears.
Learn to behave, băiat, or you will find out the hard way what befalls naughty children who dare meddle in other people's affairs.
Eddie shivered.
Mrs. Jeepers saw him and walked over to his desk. “Eddie, are you feeling alright? You don’t look well.”
She reached out her hand to feel his forehead.
Eddie recoiled. “I’m fine, Mrs. Jeepers. Thanks for asking.”
Mrs. Jeepers frowned. She didn’t get the chance to say anything about his reaction.
The clock read 10:30am. “It is time for music class everyone. Please line up and I will walk you over to the auditorium.”
Eddie joined his friends in line as they headed out into the hall.
The auditorium was a large, dark room filled with empty seats. Old risers sat on the brightly lit stage. A tall man stood atop a wooden podium. He had bronze skin and amber eyes. The top portion of his brown-black hair was pulled into a loose ponytail by a thin band. The rest fell in waves to his upper back. He wore a grey suit with brown leather shoes.
Mrs. Jeepers hesitated in the open doorway and touched her brooch. Neither Melody or Eddie seemed to notice. They just kept on walking. Liza and Howie stopped to stare at their teacher who had never acted that way before.
“Mrs. Jeepers looks nervous,” Liza whispered.
“It must have something to do with him,” Howie replied, pointing to the new music teacher.
The man turned toward them and smiled revealing his own lengthy, sharp eye teeth. He had sideburns connected to his chinstrap beard and an extended soul patch in the shape of a sleek inverted droplet. A well trimmed petite handlebar mustache with the tips curled rested above his upper lip. He also had a vertical scar over his left eye.
“Welcome to my music class. My name's Mr. Lobo and I will be your teacher this year. Please find your seats so we may begin.”
Mrs. Jeepers sat down in one of the auditorium chairs to watch the new teacher like a hawk. This surprised all the kids as she didn't usually stay with them when they attended the art or music classes. She would return to the classroom until it was time to retrieve them. Not today.
Mr. Lobo didn’t seem phased by her presence at all. He began to show them the proper posture and breathing exercises. He taught them to read music and played different instruments for them. They had to learn about melody, rhythm and pitch.
Mr. Lobo made them keep time with the music.
He knew how to have fun with it. Even Eddie liked him.
None of the kids wanted music to end. Mrs. Jeepers wasn’t too happy. She sat with her arms crossed the whole time. She didn't speak. She just stared at Mr. Lobo as if she'd seen a ghost or something.
Mr. Lobo put his conducting sticks away and guided students over to the stage stairs.
“Class is over for the day. We will pick up where we left off tomorrow. Do not forget that we will be having band rehearsals on mondays and wednesdays and choir rehearsals on tuesdays and thursdays. Have a good afternoon everyone! Eddie, remember to get your permission slip signed. I do not want to have to fail any of my students for lack of participation in such an easy subject. It would be embarrassing for both of us.”
"Yes, Mr. Lobo!"
"Bueno niño!"
His accent was different from Mrs. Jeepers. When Howie stopped to ask him about it he chuckled. “I’m from Colombia. My accent may seem strange to you, but where I grew up, it’s quite normal.”
“Well, I think your voice is nice,” Melody said.
Mr. Lobo smiled showing them his sharp eye teeth. “Muchos gracias, señorita. I’m glad you like it.”
Mrs. Jeepers put a hand on Liza’s shoulder and the other on Howie’s while she looked back and forth in between Melody and Eddie. “It is time to return to our classroom. You can speak to Mr. Lobo again some other time.”
The children nodded. “Yes, Mrs. Jeepers.”
Mrs. Jeepers waited patiently for her students to line up at the door before she turned back to Mr. Lobo.
She was petite, barely five feet tall. Mr. Lobo towered over Mrs. Jeepers at six feet. No one could hear what she was saying. She always spoke softly and never raised her voice.
“What do you think they’re talking about?” Melody asked.
Eddie shrugged. “Boring teacher stuff?”
“Mrs. Jeepers looks upset,” Howie noted.
“I don’t think she and Mr. Lobo like each other,” Liza told them.
Eddie snorted. “Figures. He’s tons of fun and she’s no fun at all.”
Melody elbowed him in the ribs. “This is serious. Mrs. Jeepers gets along with every other teacher at school. There has to be something wrong with Mr. Lobo for her to not like him.”
“Maybe he’s a werewolf,” Eddie joked. “Vampires and werewolves fight like cats and dogs.”
“In movies and books," Howie countered. "We don’t know how they’d act toward each other in real life."
“That's because they don’t exist,” Liza reminded them.
"We will speak about this later," Mrs. Jeepers said loud enough for everyone to hear.
Mr. Lobo scowled at her. "I will not argue about this. We shan't speak of it ever again. The only matters you and I need ever discuss are those pertaining to the welfare of our students."
Mrs. Jeepers' eyes widened and she reached towards her brooch. The students all held their breath.
Mr. Lobo caught her wrist before she could touch the green jewel. He pointed at it. "Don't bother. We both know that does not work on me."
He released her wrist and went inside his office closing the door behind him. Mrs. Jeepers just stood there completely taken aback.
None of the kids dared say a word, but Melody and Liza swore they caught a glimpse of tears in their teacher's eyes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mr. Lobo walked from his house on Forest Lane to the old Clancy Estate on Delaware Boulevard. It wasn’t a long trek. Ten to fifteen minutes at most. He carried two bags of supplies in one hand and a large tool box in the other.
He kept telling himself the only reason he was going anywhere near Mrs. Jeepers was because Eddie and his sister needed the old house to be livable. He was doing the work for the children not her.
Lobo paused on the sidewalk outside the overgrown yard. The Queen Anne Victorian had been left in shambles by the previous owner. Busted shutters dangled haphazardly from window seals, leafy vines crawled up and along both sides of the house, broken glass panes, crumbling wooden boards and eroded metal frames dared local prowlers and thieves to take their best shot.
Lobo noted how the steps and porch groaned under his weight. He lifted the heavy iron knocker. It struck the wood. Once. Twice. Three times before the old door creaked open. He found himself face to face with Mrs. Jeepers.
She wore a polka dotted dress, a pair of black boots and her curly red-orange hair pulled back into a ponytail by a ribbon. The dark crimson spots on her crisp, white blouse and matching skirt looked like blood spatter peeking out at him from beneath her black silk vest with its silver buttons.
She tried to smile for him, but it just came off as awkward and a bit forced. “Thank you for doing this. I appreciate it and I am sure the children do too.”
Lobo doubted it. The children didn’t like them. Perhaps they sensed the beasts that lurked just beneath the skin, or Mrs. Jeepers had slipped up and let her true nature show.
She stepped aside so he could enter the house. Cobwebs and dust greeted him.
“Where do you want me to start?” he asked.
“Why don’t you begin in the backyard and work your way in from there,” she suggested.
Lobo nodded.
He spent the rest of the day ripping out weeds thick as a man’s fingers and mowing grass so high it brushed his hips. He laid out stone pavers and lights, even planted seeds for an herb and vegetable garden before he added a different batch of seeds in the front for a flower garden.
After watering the seeds and returning the push mower he’d borrowed from a neighbor, Mr. Lobo paused to examine all his work. Both yards looked better, but he was already calculating in his head everything he’d need to repair the interior of the house.
A delicate hand, its tapering fingers tipped with green polish, rested on his shoulder. He didn’t  turn. He knew who stood beside him. Mrs. Jeepers smelled faintly of wintery night air, damp, clean earth and roses.
“You’ve done enough for today,” she told him. “If you would like to return tomorrow after school lets out, that will be fine. I must ready myself for work. There is much to do and little time for it.”
“I’ll be here around three-thirty or four. I need to pick up some more tools and supplies at the hardware store. Give me a call if you need anything.”
He jotted down his number on a crumpled up napkin he’d found in his pocket and gave it to her.
“Goodnight, Mrs. Jeepers.”
“Goodnight, Mr. Lobo.”
Lobo watched her walk back inside the house and waited for the unmistakable click of a door lock sliding into place before he headed home.
Bailey wasn’t a large city, more like a small town, but that didn’t make it safer. A woman living by herself was a prime target for all manner of criminals.
All werewolves were protective and territorial. Lobo kept watch over the human residents and a close eye on the preternaturals who called Bailey City home.
He saw Boris Hauntly working in his conservatory at the Hauntly Manor over on Dedman Street. Boris’ mother, Madame Hauntly, was treating some local children to milkshakes at a Doodle Burger on Main. Drake and Frank were at the park shooting hoops with O’Grady and Eugene. Dr. Granite and Mr. Ore were off helping Dr. Victor with an experiment at the Shelly Museum.
Everything is as it should be, he told himself.
Maybe, if he kept telling himself that, he’d brainwash himself into believing it. He’d try anything to stop thinking about her.
Yeah…right…
His mind immediately drifted to the all-too-familiar scent of cold night air, damp soil and roses. To the pale, beautiful face that had haunted all his dreams for more than a century.
Mr. Lobo pushed old memories aside and unlocked the door to his house. He saw no reason to revisit the past. Better to put it behind him than to obsess over what might’ve been and would never be again.
◇◇◇
Justine Hauntly froze upon seeing her favorite cousin’s tears. “Sorina, what…what happened?”
Mrs. Jeepers quickly wiped the salty droplets from her cheeks with the back of her hand. “It is nothing. Allergies, perhaps.”
Justine folded her arms. “This would not have anything to do with Hombre Lobo, would it?”
Mrs. Jeepers bit her bottom lip to keep from sobbing. “No…”
Justine sighed. “Sorina, it is only natural for you to feel as you do. I am sure seeing him again is not easy. The two of you were close once and things did not end on the best terms.”
“I left him at the alter on our wedding day with only a letter asking forgiveness and no real explanation,” Sorina reminded her. “Hombre despises me. He will not so much as look my way unless it is necessary to maintain professional appearances.”
“Have you tried speaking with him privately?” Justine asked.
“He will not stay in a room with me if it means we will be alone together,” Sorina replied. “I…I may have upset him during his first music lesson. I panicked at seeing him after so many years and…”
“And…?” Justine urged her gently.
“I touched my brooch,” Sorina went on. “I should not have. His breed are immune to our allure, I know, but the magic…touched him. Hombre became angry. He believes I did it on purpose.”
“Using magic to coerce another is considered taboo amongst the werewolves,” Justine admitted. “But you did not mean to do it. I am sure he will calm down, and once he does, you will be able to discuss what happened and why it was necessary for you to react as you did.”
Sorina sniffled. “I hope you are right. I can not stand that he is so upset with me. I wish I could make Hombre understand that I regret my decision. He does not realize how badly I have missed him.”
“Perhaps fate is giving the two of you the chance to reconcile and start again,” Justine suggested.
“If so,” Sorina replied, “I do not intend to waste the opportunity I have been granted. I will speak to Hombre. Even if he rejects my feelings, at least I will have done all that I could to right the wrong I committed against him.”
Vampires Don't Fall In Love: Chapter #3
Disclaimer: I OWN NOTHING!!! All the Bailey School Kids books & characters belong to Marcia T. Jones and Debbie Dadey.
Note: Radu belongs to me. If you wish to use him in fanart or in fanfiction, please remember to credit me as his creator. Thank you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You are wasting your time,” Madame Hauntly said, looking toward the open doorway to Hauntly Castle's entrance hall. “Justine is not here. She would not see you if she were.”
A handsome man stepped out of the shadows. He appeared to be in his thirties with a symmetrical diamond shaped face, aquiline nose and sharp arctic blue eyes. Dark chocolate brown hair with hints of burgundy and gold fell in large, loose curls to his mid back. He wore a silk brocade jacket in black and gold with trousers and tall riding boots.
Madame Catalina Hauntly went back to reading the letters she’d received from her grandson and his friends.
Her refusal to do anything more than acknowledge his presence should’ve made it clear she and her family wanted nothing to do with Radu, his half-brother Vlad or that vipers’ nest they called a royal court. Catalina herself had declined invitations and ignored every summons while her niece, Justine Hauntly, had refused all of Radu’s attempts to court her.
“Forgive the intrusion,” he said still hovering near the doorway. The candles cast eerie shadows across his face. “I thought you’d want to be the first to know.”
“Know what?” Catalina asked not bothering to feign interest or hide her irritation.
“The Impaler is dead.”
Catalina Hauntly froze letter in hand. Her own blood chilled by the utter lack of emotion in the vampiric prince’s smooth tenor.
“How?”
Radu smirked. “Exsanguination.”
Catalina stood abruptly from her chair. She turned to face him still clutching her letters. “That…is an agonizing death.”
It wasn’t a secret she despised Vlad Țepeş for what he’d done to her family. However, even he hadn’t deserved to suffer such a fate. No one did.
Radu’s pale lips pulled back in a vicious grin. “Some would call it justice.”
Catalina narrowed her sapphire green eyes at him. She’d never been easily intimidated. “Not in this castle.”
Radu shrugged. “Everyone has their preferences. To each their own, da?”
Catalina frowned. “Nu.” She set the letter on the end table next to her chair and pointed toward the doors of her solar. “Get out.”
Radu raised an eyebrow. “Is that how you treat your new king?”
“Vlad endured much worse the last time we crossed paths,” she retorted.
Radu chuckled. “My brother was right about one thing. You are a stubborn curvă. Tell Justine I will return tomorrow night. She will give me her hand in marriage or I will take her head.”
Catalina hissed.
Radu didn’t even bat an eyelash at the sight of her lengthy, sharp fangs. He casually turned and left the room.
“See that Justine is ready by the time I arrive,” he called without looking back over his shoulder.
Catalina glanced out a nearby window and cursed under her breath. The ticălos had waited until just before sunrise to visit her thinking she’d be unable to act until the following evening.
Radu was more intelligent than his predecessor. No doubt he’d roost nearby with a contingent of guards to keep watch while he slept and thwart any escape they might attempt before he’d returned for her niece.
He'd miscalculated. Catalina had no intention of waiting around. She shifted into a bat and flew out into the pre-dawn sky. If he wanted to force the union, he’d have to find them first.
Catalina knew Radu. He loved the hunt as much as he did the kill. He’d find them. And she’d be ready for him when he did.

Bailey School Kids Headcanons and Theories:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1: Madame Hauntly was the wife of the farmer Edwardo in the story that she tells Ben, Jane and Annie in "Vampire Trouble". This also means she is the mother of his six children and that Vlad, who tried to steal the farmer's land and wife, was probably Vlad the Impaler.
2. Mrs. Jeepers fell in love with a human, but he died, and she keeps all his favorite books in that box in the basement of the old Clancy Estate to have something that reminds her of him. I believe her husband knew that she was a vampiress and that's why he gave her the bat bracelet as a way to reassure her that her secret was safe with him. I think that is what Mrs. Jeepers meant in "Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots" when she told Eddie and the others that she feels like her husband is still with her at times despite his death.
3. Madame Hauntly and her children are capable of walking around in daylight because a) she's a very old vampiress which means she's super powerful and b) her children are half human, so the sun doesn't have as much of an effect on them, though Mrs. Jeepers still uses her brooch to increase her own power and it also serves as added protection from the sun.
4. Mr. Drake is Mrs. Jeepers' and Boris' brother and the dad of Kilmer's cousin in "Vampire Baby".
5. Grandpa Vamps is Mrs. Jeepers' uncle or grandfather in the story "Mrs. Jeepers' Creepy Christmas". She called him in to get Eddie interested in reading as the boy was being stubborn and kept refusing to cooperate with her.
6. Most of the adults the children think are monsters are normal humans trying to live their lives. However, Mrs. Jeepers and her Hauntly relatives are in fact vampires and monsters, but don't pose a threat to the people of Bailey City as they are kind and caring towards their neighbors and have not harmed anyone since their arrival as far as we know. The other legit monsters include leprechauns as it was implied in "Leprechauns Don't Play Basketball" that Mrs. Jeepers' was in fact the vampiress teacher who stole the brooch from the leprechaun king.
7. Mrs. Jeepers can't have children of her own maybe because of a health issue, but she loves children, so she became a school teacher to be around them, and to nurture and satisfy her own maternal instinct. She wants all of her students to succeed and to be safe which is why she's so strict with them and won't give Eddie attention when he acts up in class or during field trips. She refuses to reward his negative behavior which is why she reprimands him with extra work or chores when he misbehaves.
8. Eddie knows Mrs. Jeepers is a vampire because she showed her fangs when she dragged him into the hall to talk about his bad behavior in the first book "Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots". That's why he won't tell his friends what happened. She likely warned him to be quiet and to quit misbehaving, but he realized in time that she wouldn't actually hurt him, so he kept acting up despite the fact that she was an actual vampire and he still feared her to some extent. Eddie knew she wouldn't harm anyone so he pushed his luck and she had to keep him in line until he moved up into fourth grade.
9. Mrs. Jeepers and her family continued to protect and watch over all her students well into their adult years. She and the Hauntlys stayed in Bailey City a) until residents began to notice they weren't aging and they had to move to another place to start again or b) her ex-students realized what they were, but chose to keep their secret so they could remain in Bailey City teaching and befriending the future generations of their families.
Bailey School Kids discussion part 2
FINALLY finished reading the entire series!! @aurorasilverthorne, I wanted to wait to respond to your comments on my last post until I finished the series.   Totally agree and love all the other comments you left on my last post. But wanted to discuss these comments further:
"I'm pretty sure Mrs. Jeepers and Mr. Drake are siblings. I think we see him in "Vampire Baby" and he's the dad of Kilmer's baby cousin. I think Ben and the others don't recognize him because he's the third grade councilor and they're in fourth grade. It's vaguely hinted at when Madame Hauntly mentions Edwardo Hauntly had six kids. I'm assuming she's actually his wife and Mrs. Jeepers, Boris and Drake are three of those six kids.
I think her husband is definitely dead. My guess is vampires stop aging after a certain age, but their bodies can still wear out, which means they aren't truly immortal and can and will die eventually once their organs give out. I don't think Mrs. Jeepers would interact with humans as much as she does if she didn't have complete control of her vampiric instincts because it would endanger her and her family and their species otherwise."
I think what you said is excellent ideas for fanfiction, but I'm trying to be as accurate as possible as I try to figure out the book canon.
In book 3, Kilmer calls Madame Hauntly his grandma and asks her to tell the story about great-grandpa Hauntly. So I think Edwardo Hauntly is the father of Madame Hauntly, not her husband. Which means Madame Hauntly is one of those six children mentioned. We might assume all 5 siblings of Madame Hauntly are also vampires, but that may not be true, given this family seems to have werewolf cousins and uncles.   So Mr. Drake could be a cousin of Mrs. Jeepers or not. There's plenty of siblings he could be related to or he might not be related to any of them and be a totally separate vampire line. Edwardo Hauntly battled with someone called Vlad. I don't know if that implies Edwardo became a vampire because of his battles and Vlad bit him, or if it was simply two different vampire families battling each other.
Then there’s the vampire baby that Kilmer’s vampire uncle dropped off in book 7. Is that Mr. Drake? I don’t think it is. If that were Mr. Drake, I’m certain he wouldn’t have avoided all conversation with Mrs. Jeepers in all the other books. Being family would have been far more reason to talk to each other at some point, and not just being vampires and Romanian.  Makes no sense for them to ignore each other like they did. I know he borrowed her basement for the rock concert practices, so clearly they must have had a conversation at some point, but it’s so strange they have ZERO dialogue with each other in front of the kids. AND I think the 4th graders would have recognized this vampire uncle that picked up the baby at the end of book 7 as being their former Bailey School guidance counselor, rock star, or kickball coach. The picture doesn't look like Mr. Drake and none of the 4th graders recognize him as such.
Next topic:
I do wonder how long Hauntly vampires can live. Mrs.Jeepers seems at least a couple hundred years old if she's the one that stole the gem from the Leprechaun King, which is heavily implied in book 4. I'm not sure what to make of her dead husband. Maybe he was human and simply died of old age and she hasn't wanted to remarry since then?   We don't have any evidence of any of the Hauntly vampires aging and dying. We don't even know for sure if Edwardo died of old age or not. They're telling stories about him, so I assume that's a sign he has passed from life into legend.
-------------
More questions I have now that I've finished reading the series:
Sleeping arrangements:
Madame Hauntly has a coffin. Boris, Mrs.Jeepers' brother, is super tall and very vampire-like, just like Madame Hauntly. But Mrs jeepers doesn’t dress as vampiric as them, nor does her look-alike cousin Justine Hauntly. Are they just slightly better at blending in with society?
That coffin in Mrs jeepers basement, I guess that’s her coffin? But she has her magic brooch. So maybe she actually sleeps in a bed upstairs? She came from the upstairs when the kids broke into her basement in book 1. But that doesn’t mean anything. She may have tapped on the inside of the box to scare the kids away, then flew upstairs to turn the light on to confuse them as where she actually came from in the house. Like I said, she seems to be more self-aware and slightly better at blending in than her brother or mother.
Interesting to see that Mrs. Jeepers seems to sleep like an ordinary human, unless she's faking it all night long for the benefit of all the people in the gym with her: https://imgur.com/OpSgxmK I think at the very least, the brooch allows her to get away with no coffin or ancestral soil like Boris and Madame Hauntly seem to require. But who knows if the brooch allows her to do that indefinitely.. She might have used up a lot of power for this one particular night. None of the vampires seem to have any problem being awake during the day and sleeping at night.
Food:
Boris keeps trying to serve the kids inhuman food, but they served Eddie and co harmless noodles in Romania (super special #2). Perhaps Mrs. jeepers controlled the menu there? Or the human cook lady knew better and the monsters never questioned it? Is the Hauntly food deadly to ordinary humans? I thought it was since Ben and gang always refused Boris' food whenever it was offered, but then Carey seems to drink it without issue or complaint: https://imgur.com/fFrEABb
Also interesting that Mrs. Jeepers seems to live exclusively on "tomato juice" but nobody except the kids ever questions this odd dietary choice: https://imgur.com/wsX8wnw
Procreation:
Vampires seem to be able to procreate... since Boris and Mrs. jeepers have a mother. But did Boris sleep with Hilda to create Kilmer? Or did Hilda create Kilmer in a lab? I lean towards them having sex to have a child, since these vampires do seem to be able to procreate and it would explain how their Cousin Fang (book 2) and Uncle Barker (super special) are werewolves and yet somehow still related to a vampire family. Or is he just a cousin in a metaphorical sense? But Fang bears the last name “Hauntly”. After Book 2, I thought maybe he was an adopted child. A werewolf child adopted and raised by a sympathetic vampire family. But thanks to the super special, we know there's also an Uncle Barker, so there's more than one werewolf somehow supposedly biologically connected to this Hauntly vampire family. Boris married a Frankenstein creature Hilda, so perhaps the vampires can procreate with literally anything: human, werewolf, frankenstein, etc.
And given the vampire baby, these vampires clearly reproduce and age at least somewhat like humans. I wonder if it’s like Vampire Knight (anime) --> The more human blood they have in their lineage, the less powers they have. Yes, humans can be turned into vampires, but they have the least amount of powers compared to those who are born vampire. And the purest-blooded vampires (very little to no human blood) have the strongest powers, but constant incest because there’s so few members of the exceptionally pure lines. Perhaps this Hauntly vampire family has a lot of human blood (and werewolf and frankenstein blood etc) in them, so they're odd as hell, but weak in power because their vampiric blood is so impure because they will breed with literally anything.
In conclusion, Bailey School Kids was all about being suspicious and accusing strange adults of being monsters with nefarious plans. Bailey City Monsters is about kids who LOVE the monsters and want to protect them from the humans who want to kick them out of the city lol. Ben and his gang see it as the monsters being too innocent to realize their plans will be seen as "nefarious" by the rest of the city residents. Eddie and gang just have moments where they choose the "devil they know" over the unknown devil, so they sometimes come to Mrs Jeepers defense because they think the alternative option is worse.
Hiya, Rori! Happy first day of spooky month from your Halloween Witch (AKA: Me)
I love your most recent story "Vampire's don't fall in love" but I was curious about your OC Mr. Lobo. Can you please give some details about this character?
Two main questions:
Is he a werewolf?
Is he Latino?
I'm asking because Lobo in Spanish means wolf and I was so curious about if he was a werewolf since, well, in your story there are in fact monsters!
The answer to your questions is Yes! Mr. Lobo is a werewolf and Latino. He grew up in a small village somewhere between Columbia and Brazil. He and Mrs. Jeepers met as little children when her family had to seek refuge with his after Vlad Țepeş stole their land and exiled them from the Transylvania Alps as revenge for Madame Hauntly marrying a human she'd fallen in love with instead of him.
Mr. Lobo's first name is Hombre. He is six feet tall, has bronze skin with an athletic build, and wears a dark grey suit with brown leather shoes. He has a portion of his hair pulled back into a loose ponytail so that it's out of his face but allows the rest to fall freely in waves to his upper back. He's got a scar on his left eye that cuts right through his eyebrow. He has a handsome face with a square jawline and neatly trimmed sideburns connected to a chinstrap beard and extended soul patch with a petite handlebar mustach and amber eyes that glow gold whenever he's angry or about to transform into a werewolf.
Mr. Lobo and Mrs. Jeepers were once engaged, but she married a human at the last minute who later died leaving her a window. Mr. Lobo doesn't know she ran away to protect him. He thinks she did it to get back at him for something he doesn't remember doing or just to be cruel to him. He is still heartbroken by her actions when he moves to Bailey City and accepts the job of music teacher at Bailey Elementary School.
Mr. Lobo knows how to do lots of different things. He tries to be civil to Mrs. Jeepers and even offers to fix up her house so that people won't suspect she's a vampire.
Mr. Lobo tries hard to deny it, but deep down, he still loves Mrs. Jeepers despite what happened all those years ago.
He hates bullies and will go out of his way to protect innocent people even if doing so means risking his life or exposing the existence of his kind to the human world.
Unlike Mrs. Jeepers, who uses her brooch to walk about in the sun and make kids behave, he's able to go out in daylight at any time and merely has to give students a certain look to stop them from acting up in class. Even Eddie knows better than to anger Mr. Lobo. He'd never actually hurt a child, but Eddie and the other kids don't know that, else wise they wouldn't be so afraid of him.
