The way Sarah J. Maas writes Nesta working through her anxiety, fear, and PTSD triggered by the sound of a fire crackling...the scene in ACOSF ch. 56 where Nesta asks the House to light a fire so Nesta can work through her responses to the sound, and begin to retrain her brain to accept the discomfort and separate the sound from her memory of her father's death......

This is written in a way that tells me SJM has probably experienced something like this before. It's accurate in a way that exceptionally matches my lived experience of having to work through these same things.

And it means the world to me to read a strong, badass main character experience this same thing I do.

I don’t think people realize that Elain has to not only deal with becoming fae after living the majority of her life as a human but now has to exist in the present tense knowing what happens in the future (I’ve always assumed seers get glimpses of what will happen and have to warn those in power to do something about it so it doesn’t become a reality. They have the power to change the trajectory of events that will happen kind of thing but I could be wrong lol). Nevertheless, it’s a terrifying power and from what we’ve read we haven’t met anyone else who’s a seer in Prythian. How do you deal with that immense power alone? What if you see something so catastrophic (we’re talking genocide, the collapse of kingdoms/ worlds that the asteri have accomplished, etc) and you have to remain living normally ?? It will take a mental toll of her. I’m sure anyone with that power, especially untrained, would too. V interested on how Sarah’s going to write Elain’s power as well as possibly incorporating the other seers/ mystics from Lunathion or maybe even the witches from Erilea (I remember one telling Aelin her future and the king of Adarlan keeping one? could be wrong).

If Nesta stans ever need to read a short bit of her story to just feel better about the world and everything in it...

Reread chapter 9 of ACOSF.

It's one of my favorite examples of a beautifully outlined bit of storytelling on the part of SJM:

It opens with the very first encounter ever between Nesta and Emerie 🥹🦇💜

It continues with the first encounter ever between Nesta and Gwyn 🥹📚🩵 (which also dubs as our first time meeting Gwyn too 😭🙌🏻)

And it concludes with the first overtly caring and nurturing actions toward Nesta by the House of Wind 🥹🏠🤎

In each encounter, Nesta is on the receiving end of a frank kindness and respect that she has little to no experience with it.

And she has no idea she's meeting some of the most important individuals in her immortal life — it's like Urd is lining up the three relationships all three women need without realizing they need them 😭

(And the House is finally ready to love on our girl, perhaps realizing that tenderness will go further in helping Nesta than tough love, at least when she's in the safety and security of what will grow to become a home to her.)

It's one of those node chapters that's pivotal in the story of ACOSF and especially in Nesta's own story of healing, but you almost don't notice it while you're reading it...

Chapter 9 is one of my favorite parts of ACOSF — when I'm feeling extra it makes me wanna crow at the page

Onto the promised second half of my accumulated language notes on Last Twilight ep. 9-11, this time a short one!

จ้า /jaa/

Perfect subs, no notes. จ้า or จ๋า is an ending particle or interjection that gives vibes of intimacy and being sweet - I kinda melted when he said it.

The fact that Day calls out to his brother in this moment of distress by calling him พี่ไนท์ /phi Night/, whereas they usually use familiar impolite กู/มึง /guu, meung/ with each other, and we see them be physically affectionate now 🥺

หวัดดี อาหมอก อาเดย์ ลุงไนท์ สิลูก /wat dee aa Mork aa Day loong Night si luuk/

-> อา /aa/ = a young uncle or aunt; ลุง /loong/ = an old uncle; ลูก /luuk/ = child, son/daughter

Porjai พอใจ /phaaw jai/ = satisfied, content; satisfactory

Poomjai ภูมิใจ /phuum jai/ = proud

This notion of You're more than 'enough', you're amazing! -

ผมอยากให้คุณภูมิใจในตัวเองนะ ที่แบกท้องคนเดียวมาได้ขนาดนี้อะ /pom yaak hai khun phuum jai nai dtuua ehng na thee baaek thaawng khohn diao maa dai kha naat nee a/

Night used to call himself พี่ /phi/ and Porjai เรา /rao/ or น้อง /nong/ up until last episode. That he now uses the more formal ผม /pom/ and คุณ /khun/ is giving such married couple vibes 🥹
