Louis is someone who’s pretty needy and, without being dramatic, would probably die if he didn’t get enough attention during the day, that much he is aware of. Moving in with four boys whose personalities seem to clash with each other and who don’t seem too keen on being affectionate with each other appeared to be a bad move on Louis’ part. He sets a plan, and a guide for himself for this to change.

He just wanted cuddles and for that to become normal. He didn’t really expect to somehow make everyone in the flat so co-dependent on each other and end up with a boyfriend either. But maybe he should have, really.

He’s not required to like everyone, doesn’t have to make nice with them outside of having a camera shoved in his face. He can let Nick be Nick and it shouldn’t affect Louis at all.

“Sorry,” He giggled.

“Bathroom—“ Harry was an idiot, and he couldn’t help but glance down at himself, and assess the situation. Louis caught his eye, glancing down as well. His eyes widened, and his mouth dropped a little.

“Uh,” He hesitated, swallowing audibly. “I can help you with that,” he mumbled, pathetically.

“ What? ” Harry questioned, stupidly.

“Sorry. Um. The bathroom. There’s one down this hall,” He pointed in the direction of a door Harry had yet to get to.

It wasn't that Harry hated Louis Tomlinson. He was just a Broadway kid who got insanely famous thanks to some silly videos on an even sillier app, got a label contract, forgot about his roots and now he was pretending to be a pop star. He didn't even mind that everyone was actually buying his act of being sweeter than honey. It was that Harry knew that game too well — he was inside it after all — he knew how fake people could get and how manipulative they actually were.

So no, it wasn’t that he didn’t like Louis, it was that he reminded him of everything he didn’t like in a person. Louis reminded him a bit too much of... her. Or, they were supposed to hate each other, they were supposed to do their job. At least they got one of these things right.

He got his answers now, at least about the state of his hair. Harry’s hair is a lot shorter than the last he remembers, it curls around his ear, framing his square jaw nicely. He’d have to ask about the scone next time. If there’s ever a next time.

“I recognize that there is no way for me to truly repay a debt like this, no matter how much you may try to wave me off, but I’d like to try,” King Edgar says calmly. “Since yesterday, I’ve been trying to think of something that is meaningful enough for me to offer to you as a reward, but I quickly realized that no such thing exists, not when a question of life or death is involved. As the king’s words settle in Harry’s brain, he turns toward Prince Louis. The omega’s mouth has dropped open in shock and horror, and that’s when the meaning of what the king just said begins to truly take shape in the alpha’s mind.

“I’d like for the two of you to be married,” King Edgar explains, and just like that, Harry’s life comes to a screeching halt.

As a reward for saving the king’s life, Harry is offered omega Prince Louis’ hand in marriage. Neither of them has any interest in the union going forward, and so they concoct a plan to prove to the king that they are far from a perfect match.

This story was the perfect definition of short and sweet - the writing flow captured the whimsical experience of falling in love in a foreign city perfectly, but with carefully written dialogue, made it clear that Harry and Lou weren't a holiday fling- they found something special, far away from home, to take home together. The constant underlying theme of the pictures- it's so pinteresty and what a wonderful concept- someone please make a collage I'm begging!

CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE ABSOLUTE PERFECT CHARACTERISATION OF OT5 THOUGH!!! I want friends like these. EVERYONE wants friends like these. I love how this fic wasn't just focused on Larry, but also the way Louis made peace with his previous relationship, found inspiration again and OF COURSE, HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS FRIENDS - THE WAY IT'S WRITTEN OH MY GOD it's the cutest and most wholesome thing ever. I'm not going to quote any of the interactions because I can't pick one- all of them own my heart.

I'm so impressed by the subtle way the author presents the change from one relationship to next- it didn't seem hurried at all.

It shouldn’t… it really shouldn’t feel this easy. The same way falling into place with Luke felt like. The same way falling out of love with Luke felt.

Notice how they said falling into place and not love. Luke was all Louis knew, but when he moved on to a happier, more supportive relationship, it opened his eyes to the apparent mistreatment (for the lack of a better word) he tolerated before.

“Oh no, I did believe you, hence why I even came here in the first place, I was curious to read your works and this is pretty much one of the only shops with English books, so.” Harry smiles, genuine interest shining in his eyes when he looks up.

The bar was set low but boy, did Harry go above and beyond.

ALSO THE CAT CONTENT.

“Unfair,” Harry says suddenly and he’s pouting again and it looks so silly, Louis can’t help but snort, “first at the bookstore now here? Why do you attract cats?”

Pirate meows, kneading Louis’ laps before settling in.

LOUIS WITH CATS is a very personal agenda of mine and it gave me so much joy to see it fulfilled- I'm not kidding- I was literally squealing reading those scenes. I love Louis and his kitten smile.

The fic was sappy without being cheesy, quick paced without seeming rushed.

“You sound disappointed, someone your age should know about unsafe sex.”

Louis squawks. “First of all, rude. Second of all, let’s talk about your receding hairline.”

One of my favorite things was the dialogue between Harry and Louis - it stayed so on point to their personalities I could literally see them saying it, it wasn't overdone at all. The banter brought me back to life, I was giggling and blushing as if I was right there in Paris next to them. The locations picked as well, the haunted house, THE CAT CAFE, the garden, the pink castle, it was something right out of a fairytale. The very concept of meeting a stranger in Paris seems like a dream or a movie plot but the way it read wasn't at all like some "fantasy" that would never happen in real life. That's actually quite a thin line to walk - and the author pulled it off so beautifully.

All in all, it was a wonderfully written fic, I highly recommend it if you're looking for something short, fun and not too heavy to read.

in recent times ! part 3

post lunch has been calm and soothing today so decided i might as well make a part 3!! read a lot of good fics in the month (i’m sorry i haven’t rb’d any yet, i have them queue’d up!!!!) shutting up now 🙊

☃ Amidst the Daises by @theisolatedlily

(i cannot stress how delicate i feel after reading this. i almost crumpled so many times throughout the fic. this is so so tender and underappreciated. i almost felt like i was intruding this little world filled with flowers, fresh soil, boys with so many words unsaid, smudged ink and forgiveness.)

☃ and it gets colder and colder by @hadestyles

(incredibly drawn in by all the words you offer to us. this feels like a perfect winter dream with imperfect boys and feelings that slowly bloom one by one. the ending is perfect. something i did not expect but makes it so raw.)

(the pure fluff in this!!!!! it feels like a warm hug. i want to stay in this verse forever. the sequel is so adorable too!!!! i love love love this. louis in this is who i strive to be.)

(i’m a sucker for demons and paired with girl direction this is so delicious. i love awkward first meetings and the immediate sparks flying and all that jazz so this is right up my lane. so fem!larry + halloween + supernatural beings = a dream.)

☃ Sugar by @missyoutoosweetcheeks

(a smutty fem! larry au set in a boarding school *kiss* i really enjoyed how the characters had the love-hate charade going on. the ending made me cackle.)

☃ Spoonful of Sugar by @zanniscaramouche

(the characterisations!! i kept screaming — the thrill, the thinly exposed past, the mystery, the gentleness. this is one of the best fics i’ve read this month. i enjoyed the writing style so bloody much ahhh. knocked it out of the park!!!)

☃ violence of my own touch by got2ghosts

(as a person who struggles with gender identity among other things, this fic really really touched me. i can’t read this without breaking down because i feel so seen. i understand and relate and sympathise. a beautiful story.)

☃ Remember Me Fondly by @bluejeanlouis

(i read this in one sitting and i went through numerous emotions. the angst, the mistakes, the past, the present all meshing together and creating this beautifully tragic story with broken humans and ugly times. i can’t get enough of this. it has hurt me and healed me.)

☃ even my phone misses your call by @enbyvinyls

(enby representation!!!!!!! harry uses he/they!!! hell yeah. this is a bittersweet, nostalgic fic that ripped my heart into shreds. can’t get over the tender current of love in this.)

☃ the sanctity of patience by @scrunchyharry

(historical au chant! this author’s fics are always so well plotted out with perfect imagery, i love getting lost in all the worlds they create. it is a personal favourite of mine. the way their love unfolds is so beautiful to read.)

☃ let's run all the red lights by @quelsentiment

(i’m still processing my emotions. i think i cried after i read it. such beautifully crafted characters with relatable thoughts. i absolutely adore the ending! enjoyed this one quite a bit.)

☃ falling into your ocean eyes by @chaoticsue

(the writing style is so lovely! i read this over three times and still don’t have the right words to express the love i have for this fic. a wonderfully sweet story.)

☃ cherries and wine by willouis

(you must have seen the lesbian domesticity posts right? it reads exactly like that. so many emotions packed into few words. i want this for myself. i want to feel those emotions. i’m obsessed with this.)

that is all for today. i haven’t read any festive fics even though i’ve seen so many floating around lmao. i also finished the devil and the deep blue sea by @kingsofeverything and had to take a break from making this post because i couldn’t process that it was truly over. i almost forgot how good wips are, i need to read more wips.
