The Yugioh-focused Discord World RP, Domino City, is now opening the doors for more members! The community is inclusive to other fandoms and OCs, for a refreshing variety of personalities and crossovers. The server offers neutral locations and Alternate Universes for those unfamiliar with Yugioh, allowing for grand adventures or smaller slice-of-life interactions.

World RP: plot threads in style.

Our World RP server is structured where each category is a zone/world, each channel a location and each thread a sub location or private story. Characters move about in these locations and writing in them is usually a slow to steady pace. Quick-paced RP channels, like the opt-in Telephone Chat, are for those who desire fewer locations, or just like a brief interaction. It is also possible to start private RPs.

Hey, just to put the ask out- does anyone want to join the TTRPG campaign I'm running? We've been in some mini-arcs while I try to put the next big arc together (very, veeeerrry slowly), and the second of those mini-arcs is about to end, and then we'll likely take a few weeks off due to scheduling issues and resume when the arc is done.

I wish I could say it was almost done, I just took a week of half-days with my PTO to try and chip away at it, and I did make progress, but it's not there yet. At the very least, that should give anyone who's interested time to get caught up with the campaign and come up with a character?

This arc is meant to be a big turning point in the campaign as things get closer to the climax, at which point it'll be up to the players as to what to do next.

The current story- based on a comic I wanted to make for a while, the setting is based on WW1-WW2 America, featuring a team of pilots (at first , before player turnover and replacement PCs) whose society was isolated in an ancient, cracked dome, and set out looking for ways to bring their struggling population out into the wider world- all the while, a war overseas with a secretive, strange army is getting more tense.

Throughout the campaign, the players have:

Saved a literal flying circus from arson

Gotten caught up in conflict between the mob and a corrupt power company, inadvertently leading to two horrific creatures from either side being mashed together into a spiraling deer-tree abomination they had to stop

Played heel-villains in staged superhero fights in exchange for money and strange artifacts

Been morphed into story-book pirates in a patch of warped reality, fighting the ghost of the pirate who kept them trapped there

Gone undercover in a Lovecraftian town where gathered businesspeople and international diplomats planned to awaken the ancient gods, only to get caught, panick, and blow up those diplomats, pissing off multiple governments and a clairvoyant lobster-worshipping cult

Partied and fought racist square-dancing vampires in a New Orleans-inspired town's werewolf jazz festival

Handled one crisis after another at an international war summit in a Wild West theme park, from anarchist moth-worshipping cults to a disgraced Thomas Edison expy burning himself and his workers out with psychic weather machines, to stopping the kidnapping of world leaders by a teleporting sniper who was trying to stop some pretty horrible colonialist violence; and narrowly negotiated their way out of being taken in by the secret agents who came to arrest them

Linking their brains and going on a mind journey in search of one-another's forms of happiness to help one of the PCs with her lifelong anhedonia

And now concluding soon, done a stint as radio interns in a Night Vale knockoff town, working to stop a StrexCorp expy from taking over.

This next arc will have the players exploring one of many ancient, destroyed domes like the one the original party came from, sitting on a native reservation in the desert.

(I confess I've had a hard time doing the research on the real life cultures and history this place is inspired by, I'll do my best about the representation but let's just say I'm glad this one will only be experienced by a small group, I may have taken some shortcuts for inspiration.)

Been thinking about what kind of interaction haruka and seto would have since they never spoke with each other (from what i know), but i think they'd be the cutest together because they're both so... idk i just love them (they are my wiwis you have to understand). Setomary harutaka double date would be insane, like, picture this: while haruka and seto would probably be talking about how much they love their girlfriends (they are full of love and whimsical feelings), takane would be like "how tf do i start conversation with this lovecraftian ass creature (with due respect)" because mary wouldn't know what to say either BUT SHE WANTS TO SHE'S JUST REALLY SHY 😔😔😔

oh i got GREAT NEWS for you

you know im always talking about post str haruka keeping a little distance from the dan cuz he knows them but they dont know him and etc etc etc etc. well! i actually hc that outside takane shintaro and ayano of course, SETO is the one member of the dan haruka is very good friends with in early post str. and thats cuz.... he is also the one member of the dan (again outside the quartet)haruka has actually spoken to before being konoha!!! its time for me to talk about the novels again❤️

IM ABT TO KAGEXPLAIN TO YOU BUT ILL GET TO SETOMARY & HARUTAKA AT THE END and my hcs on their dynamics :3 but first let me tell u abt seto&haruka's and mary&takanes friendships. spoilers duh

in the sixth novel, haruka stays over at kenjirou's house for 1 week while he works on the game with him. there haruka meets ayano for the first time, and finds out mr tateyama has FOUR kids. despite haruka is pranked a little by these mysterious 3 siblings he never meets them directly. its rly funny cuz haruka's like can i introduce myself to them i mean im gonna be staying for a week. and ayano's like WHAT. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT. and harukas like ok damn i guess i wont meet them

but haruka DOES meet seto during his stay! its one of my FAVORITE chapters of the whole novel. this bit has a 2 page illustration cmon!!!!!!! SETOS HAMSTER BITES HARUKAS FOOT

ok erm anyway. chapter summary of seto&haruka's interaction: haruka went to buy some snacks at the convenience store at night, and when he comes in seto's hamster hanao BITES his damn foot!!!!!! (attacker shown on pic) seto rushes right over like NOOOO HANAOOO

haruka and seto share an awkward greeting bc seto wants to run away asap but haruka's rly desperate to meet him so he invites him to eat the free pudding he won at the grocery store and seto accepts. then they sit and chat while eating pudding :3

haruka invites seto to come to the festival, seto thanks him but says he cant bc he's bad with crowds and he also has a job interview for being a part time paperboy. he assures him his other siblings will show up (as we know, kido and kano do show up but haruka never knew they were ayano and setos siblings at that point!!!)

when seto starts talking abt this job interview he mentions his mom is dead. in that conversation haruka finds out about ayaka. idk about the original line in japanese, but haruka says "mr tateyama's wife is dead?" because of course from his pov the shock comes from his relationship with kenjirou. he feels rly bad that kenjirou acts all happy and normal at school while going through this. seto acts surprised haruka didn't know

haruka expresses sadness over being such a pain for kenjirou then, but seto says that's not true and that kenjirou talks about him all the time. *pretends to be normal about kenjirou*

seto reveals kenjirou called haruka his pride and joy while drunk, which makes haruka tear up. while drunk he also said he'd bring haruka over to make him be ayano's boyfriend lmao and seto says he and kano&kido freaked out about it and were like WE WILL PROTECT U FOR THIS GUY NEECHAN😡😡😡 WHICH IS LIKE. A LAYER OF CONTEXT TO A BIT THAT HAPPENS EARLIER IN THE NOVEL bc they give haruka A REALLY HARD TIME when he arrives and its basically implied they did this bc they were afraid he was gonna hit on ayano lol (jin jokes in his author's notes he literally wanted haruka to hit on ayano literally for shit and giggles but his editor was like dude this is ooc can you take this fucking seriously)

it's also implied seto read haruka's mind when he arrived and since haruka had been thinking of takane and being kind of... he was like her hair her eyes her lips etcetc he was just.... being a 16 year old about it. and seto assumed it was about ayano, told his siblings and there kano went in disguised as ayano to give haruka a piece of his mind. honestly read the sixth novel its hilarious idk if its cuz its a novel with all my faves but its one of the best erm anyways back to the pudding chapter

before seto goes his eye power activates and he basically almost collapses or something. haruka gets rly worried but seto is able to calm down and he leaves. i hc that in this scene seto found out haruka was dying. i dont have proof other than seto probably read his mind there. but i like the hc😄

anyways!! fast forward to the end of the eighth novel, seto (and mary and hibiya) are in the real world while literally everyone else is dead inside the daze. they make a phonecall because of reasons i wont explain and everyone is screaming into it trying to talk to the outside guys, and haruka has a single line where he says "kousuke its me haruka!!!!! remember when we had that pudding together 2 years ago!!!!" hehe its so cute im so glad jin added that

basically. haruka and seto BEST FRIENDS. when haruka is back post str he would be very comfortable with seto and seto would for sure approach haruka and hang out with him. i definitely think haruka's the closest to seto outside of the yuukei quartet!!! like come on theyd be such good friends🥺 i was thinking of harutaka cat last night and i 1000% think seto is the one to find them a pet. seto is always taking haruka to see cats

NOW!!! MARY&TAKANE!!! they definitely don't have as much interaction as haruka&seto bc jin would rather die than write proper scenes for his female characters alone However it is said they hit it off immediately when they meet! ene makes an unforgettable comment abt mary and momo being gay which mary doesnt understand and momo like a good kisaragi wants to kill ene. anyways thats a little funny one

ill talk what i remember the most! the fourth novel: shintaro wakes up and finds mary complaining she can't talk to ene and it turns out shintaro's phone has no battery. shintaro explains the concept of a Charger and Electricity and Mary's like whoa ene eats some weird stuff huh

so she starts looking for a charger. shintaro tells her not to hurry bc theyre better off without her anyways and mary gets mad at him and tells him to stop MEAN to ene!!!!! and says she must ALSO feel lonely in there!!!! and shintaro's like o_o!! ok damn!!!!

that's the only mary&takane i can think of. but they're really good friends i think takane's as much of a tease to her as she is to everyone but mary doesnt always understand LOL but they get along well :3 theyre besties :3 like for real mary momo & ene have a girl gang that could rule the world.

then mary finds some snakeskin in a drawer with the charger and shintaro and kido almost shit their pants etcetc BUT when mary got mad, shintaro has some rly cute thoughts about ene. he remarks how absolutely no one in the dan ever questioned what the hell is ene or how she works, bc theyre all weirdos so of course they dont question other weirdos(and one of my fave shinene lines, where shintaro admits hes developed an affinity for her and that it's because of her he met all these nice people and she might as well be his salvation *fucking explodes*) anyways. he thinks ofc mary and ene hit it off. i think its so cute that mary wanted to talk to ene and just took shintaros phone to do it!!

anyways. THEYRE ALL BEST FRIENDS :3 :3 :3 :3 setomary & harutaka double date is totally possible. and we should get seto&takane to be best friends too like i think theyd be sooooo funny together. i ALWAYS say when takane gets her body back there is no way she could walk so comfortably like she does and since seto (and kano) are there i hc seto carries her back to the hideout from the lab💥💥💥

harutaka & setomary is so funny since ive been in the fandom for so long i can tell u people always compared them like the insane pda ones and though i dont rly agree with that i still think its a funny and nostalgic hc. i think itd be cute if seto told haruka he likes mary but no one else. like everyone KNOWS. duh. but he tells haruka IDK I LIKE THIS HC Because kano and kido will tease him and ayano and mary are awkward with each other (bc i say so) so seto tells haruka like omg i have a crush on mary ://3 and haruka's like omg no way whats ur fave thing about her *kicks feet* they should get to talk abt their crushes together OKAY.

Born in 1977, Shiotani is one of Production I.G's up-and-coming young creators. He grew up watching anime classics such as My Neighbor Totoro ans Kiki's Delivery Service, but then he got totally blown away by Wings of Honneamise and began to feel frustrated about not being involved in the creative side of what he was merely watching as audience. Thus, he enrolled an animation school, and after graduation, he joined Production I.G, apprenticing under Kazuchika Kise. He received international attention with the TV series Blood+ (2005), for which he directed the kaleidoscopic third opening, Colors of the Heart, selected in competition for the 11th Holland Animation Film Festival. His directorial debut, Tokyo Marble Chocolate (2007) was awarded the Grand Prize in the Feature Films Section of SICAF 2008. He then joined the staff of Production I.G's first 3DCG animated feature film, Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror as storyboard artist and animation director, bringing many central ideas to the story. He also contributed the concept design for the island, as well as the design of Cotton, the supercute lamb-shaped doll that belongs to the protagonist, Haruka. Oblivion Island eventually won ten awards in Japan and at international film festivals around the world.

In 2012, Shiotani directed his first full-length feature film, Blood-C: The Last Dark, that received the Ecran Fantastic Prize at the 16th Fantasia Film Festival for the "amazing editing and horrifying Lovecraftian bestiary."

Between 2012 and 2013 he directed the highly praised dystopian SF series Psycho-Pass, which proved a huge international success and led him to helm his second feature film, Psycho-Pass: The Movie (2015). He's a soft-spoken nice guy with a naughty boy inside.

1. Bayonetta 1

The first installment of an extremely popular series, heavily referred to as one of the greatest games developed of all time, with a rocking’ OST to boot. In this dating simulator, charm three heroines, who all happen to be Lovecraftian creatures, each with their own unique routes and personalities to boot. Romance one of the girls or die trying in this light hearted and comedic story!

ranking the h.p. lovecraft i’ve read so far (in case anyone was interested)

the call of cthulhu: i read this in high school and enjoyed it enough the first time. the fact that i read it a second time is a pretty good endorsement. it’s an interesting story... his racism does come through pretty hard in places. 7/10

the whisperer in darkness: woah, weird as hell. i liked this one, especially how tropey it is with the brains in jars and stuff. sometimes i was kind of annoyed at how long it took him to get to the point, but i think the characters and the fear in this one are more developed than other lovecraft stories. 8/10

dagon: meh, it’s okay. i like the fact that it was apparently inspired by a dream lovecraft had. 5/10

the nameless city: YES. i like this one. definitely still racism though. but i think about the alligator thing and the white otherworldly light and the dark corridor all the time. 9/10 (on the lovecraft scale)

the hound: not very memorable, had to google the plot. the grave robbing is kind of fun? 6/10

the festival: it’s okay. it honestly doesn’t feel as lovecraftian to me as other stories. somewhat interesting but not particularly central to the mythos. i do like some of the mental images it conjured up. 6/10

the case of charles dexter ward: it’s so LONG. it’s fairly good though. i enjoyed the way the concepts fit together in a longer work, even though once lovecraft passes a certain wordcount his writing style becomes kind of unbearable to endure. there is actual character here, albeit fairly two-dimensional. 8/10

the dunwich horror: this is quintessential lovecraft to me, along with the call of cthulhu. it’s kind of fun and interesting, and it showcases lovecraft’s idiosyncrasies very well. the ending is... odd. 7/10

at the mountains of madness: does this man ever shut up? i don’t care about the measurements of objects in feet and inches. tell me how it makes your characters feel! the ending irritated me, but once again, this is central to the mythos and there’s some interesting parts. still makes me want to go to antarctica, funnily enough. 6/10

herbert west - reanimator: i like this largely because of the movie, but it’s actually pretty good on it’s own. fellas, is it gay to rob graves with your bestie? 8/10

ex oblivione: my favourite thing by lovecraft that i’ve ever read. it’s stuck with me for years. it’s a lot more philosophical than his usual stuff, and it’s super short. you can read it here. 10/10

I have returned from the HPLFF! Alas, despite diligent masking, I still managed to catch some form of con crud - here's hoping for a mild case.

There were a lot of fun movies at the festival this year, but here are recs for the two I enjoyed the most:

Glorious - if you want to watch a Lovecraftian horror film that revolves around a glory hole and is set almost entirely within a rest stop bathroom, then this is the film for you! Seriously, though, it's very good. It's funny, it's scary, the effects are very cool, it has some neat twists, and the two central performances are really extremely good.

Gods of the Deep - okay. So, this movie is maybe not, y'know, good. But it was an excellent time. Extremely low budget submarine horror that doesn't take itself at all seriously. (How low budget? The security door for the "high tech" submarine science lab is a beaded curtain. I love it so much.) Best watched with a group of like-minded nerds who want to affectionately make fun of it and are going to burst into hysterical laughter the first time someone dramatically lights a cigarette on the submarine. Pair it with Freeze (made by most of the same people) which played at the festival last year - "what if The Terror but with fish people and no budget for realistic-looking 19th century cold weather gear?" They are both extremely goofy and fun.

#i have not yet watched the terror but i assume it doesn't contain fish people #if it does please let me know #i did not enjoy freeze as much as i wanted to last year #because i ended up sitting next to the director and one of the principal actors at the screening #and that sort of thing restrains one from reacting properly to a goofy lowbudget film #one doesn't want to give offense after all #but it was still really fun

1908: Public Meltdown!!

Life: Although Howard was having problems with algebra, he only had 3 classes to worry about.

But, that seems to have been too much...

In his last high school year, HPL had his worst "nervous breakdown" ever - right in front of the other students!!

Accounts, from witnesses, described "terrible tics" appearing on Lovecraft's face!

That Howard would be sitting quietly - then, suddenly, "he'd jump up" - to everyone's surprise!!

Note: It's unknown whether HPL suffered from a mental, physical or some combination of both calamities.

Lovecraft did note that he'd had facial tics, fainting spells & involuntary movements as a child.

Note: All of these strange ailments have puzzled both readers & doctors, who find themselves guessing as to their cause.

Among the various possibilities is Sydenham Chorea, also known as "Saint Vitus's Dance!"

This is a rare neurological disorder, where "a series of uncontrollable - & involuntary body movements affect a person."

So far, it's this disease that best fits the few facts that we have available...

Weird Shit: Lovecraft even went thru a strange 'allergy' - to cold temps!

This 'aversion' made it dangerous for Howard to go outside - when the mercury dipped below 20°!!

(That sounds about right - for pretty much anyone...)

Legacy: Whether this latest malady was real or not, it did allow HPL to 'hide away' from the real world...

Lovecraft just couldn't "bear to see or speak to anyone." He now "liked to shut out the world... Pulling down (the) shades..."

It's understandable that Howard must have felt highly embarrassed, anxious & depressed.

Wounded psychically, HPL would avoid doing anything creative - for several months.

During this time of recovery, his aunts took charge of caring for him.

What his mom was doing, nobody really knows...
