Kevin: I told you before, there ain’t nothin’ you can do to convince me to help you!
Charmcaster: What about that work in progress on the back page?
Kevin: Don’t you dare!!
Charmcaster: (reciting Kevin’s poem) ‘I don’t understand my own head, what I want, the things I’ve said. My heart n’ guts are miles apart, but I’m stuck between those ends, I just wish I could talk to her, but we’ll never be friends.’ (…) Hahaha, wow! ‘Red locks, like a toolbox–’
Kevin: Okay, you win, enough with the reading! I’ll help you if you knock it off!
~~~~~
Kevin: Well at least I got my book back.
Gwen: Yeah. I think your poems are really amazing, Kevin!
Kevin: Enemies don’t compliment each other!
I saw a clip for this episode and then had to watch it. I was not disappointed. XD
Mkay so I’m watching the Ben 10 reboot, right? I heard the rumors of Kevin’s dad being an alcoholic, but I wasn’t sure if it was just widely accepted fanon or an easy to miss throwaway line or what. I didn’t know what I expected.
This hurt. Legit. It was so brief. And the context to make him recall this was sorta silly. But it hurt.
Firstly, the flashback begins with him feeling alienated from his peers because everyone but him has gone to an amusement park. It isn’t the most complex reasoning, but you gotta remember he’s a kid. He’s 11 years old. I ain’t gonna doubt his intelligence or how much shit he’s put up with, but he’s still a literal child who wants to be a child.
Then he comes home.
The first thing he sees when he walks in?
His dad watching an ad for the aforementioned amusement park.
Then he changes the channel and we get the first image I put in this post.
“Beverage.” Maybe this was comedic, haha the drink has no name. But given the context? Maybe the changing channel is symbolism for his dad prioritizing booze above all else. I felt this scene hard. The amusement park, while kinda childish, is an easy example. It’s easier to get this across censors than to say his dad didn’t buy him food, or clothes, something that some kids do experience. The amusement park seems to just be the CN approved analogy/a symptom of the bigger picture.
Then he walks away without any interaction. Avoidance. Something I’m very well versed in doing. Don’t wanna deal with it. Regardless of how any interaction would turn out, if it’s subtle guilt tripping or screaming and yelling and belittling, you don’t want to risk starting it.
This scene hit very close to home to me. Maybe I was the one who started having flashbacks over something so silly. That was a lot for a twenty second clip. If Kevin wasn’t already my favorite, he really is now.
Tune in to Cartoon Network this Saturday at 12 PM for some new Ben 10 episodes!! Gear up for some srs laser tag battle- Four by Four, boarded with the combined power of André LaMilza and Luke Weber :D
Day 14- Drawing Each other
Always good to draw these iterations of the two after so long especially with this prompt list giving me the juice before Gwevin week pops in (that I hopefully can create some content for that on time) Kev being a cute flustered dork to compliments on his pic of her is sweet 🥺
A Screenshot redraw I did of Kevin Levin 😌
I may not exactly be a fan of this reboot, but in it, Kevin became an actual comfort character to me so every once in a while it’s mandatory to draw him. Also he kinda looks like Akira from DMCB ngl
AND PLEASE I BEG OF YOU MAKE HIM OSMOSIAN, CN
It’s my oldest nephew’s birthday this week so I drew this and printed it on a card for him! It’s a really cool experience to watch him and his younger brother enjoy Ben 10 and have it be a part of their childhoods, just like it was for mine 😊💖
