I love G-Witch's ending. While I do wish the journey had been longer, that we had gotten more time with the characters and the world, I would not change that destination. I still want it to end with Suletta saving her family at Quiet Zero.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"It's too happy, no one died!" I actually love this! Gundam has 45 years of bittersweet and occasionally downer endings. We can have one ending that is almost unambiguously a happy one. People always talk about finding non-violent solutions, about solving problems peacefully. And in a Gundam first, Suletta does that. She solves a violent situation with non-violence, and just this once, everybody lived!
"That was accomplished with bullshit space magic though!" Look, setting aside the fact that Bullshit Space Magic has been a part of Gundam since the original (and is often MORE bullshit in UC), this show is called The Witch From Mercury. If there was any Gundam series where Bullshit Space Magic saving the day and solving the problem is thematically appropriate and should not be an issue, it's this one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The bad guys lived and escaped jail!" I'm fine with this, especially since every good character survived too. And it's not like they didn't suffer any consequences. Miorine dissvolved the Benerit Group. Their empire is gone, along with their wealth and power. They may be free (for now), but they're definitely miserable. With Shaddiq's help, Miorine exposed the SAL's crimes, and considering the precarious position they were in previously, it's likely there was a major shake-up. The power structures in space were completely shaken up and changed, and much of it's power was transferred to Earth.
"What about Shaddiq?" Look, I definitely understand the contextual issues with Shaddiq being the only martyr. But in the show itself, Shaddiq accomplished his goals. He got to see the Benerit Group dissolved and their assets placed in the hands of Earthian companies, all without further violence. He secured the freedom of the women working for them, and importantly, they all now work for Miorine in her efforts to improve Earth and make reparations for Spacians. And as a last gift and blessing to Miorine and her new family, he took the fall for Quiet Zero while he was at it. Shaddiq may be imprisoned unlike the former BG members, but unlike them, he is a happy and satisfied man.
It's rare for the main characters in Gundam to enact massive, systemic change for the better, especially permanently. Amuro, Kamille and Judau did not change the world in any significant fashion. Their world was still mired in conflict after their reapective conflicts, to the point that Amuro dies in a later conflict and Judau gets so sick of things not changing for the better that he abandons Earth and later the solar system. Yet there is a lot of criticism that Suletta & Miorine didn’t solve all of Ad Stella's problems, that they did their part and peaced out. But their part was destroying the immediate threat of Gundams and Quiet Zero, they dismantled the Benerit Group power structure and put it in the hands of Earth and they exposed the SAL. They made huge changes to the world and they didn't stop. Miorine is still using her company to make amends for the BG's crimes and improve the lives of Earthians. Suletta has built a school on Mercury and is now building one on Earth. Even if they're not going to be fighting on the front lines, they're still fighting to make their world a better place.
That's not to say the ending is perfect. I don't think Nika should have spent 3 years in jail because of a guilty conscience and because Martin is a snitch. I don't think you should ruin the thematics of Suletta facing down and battling Quiet Zero by herself, but the part of me who loves to see giant robots fight wishes there could have been a way to involve the Demi-Barding, Pharact and Schwarzette in more action during the end. If not at QZ, then earlier in the series.
I personally believe a lot of the criticism of the ending boils down to preference, and people not preferring how G-Witch chose to end things, rather than those things being objectively bad. I think a lot of fans struggle to accept that G-Witch was trying to do something smaller, something different, and they still can't let go of wanting it to be something it never tried to be. Did it do what it wanted to do perfectly? Definitely not. It forgot what it was at points in S2 and I'd argue it actually cooked too good with it's background details, making people want more of something it never set out to do. But ultimately it was never trying to be a 50 episode war epic focused on the wider world. It was about these two girls and their families.
Tumblr media
Suletta & Miorine's scene together in the wheat field on Earth is perhaps one of my favorite scenes in anime. Maybe in any media. I wouldn't trade that moment for anything short of their actual wedding.

gooood morning i am no longer so grumpy. but i have been thinking, as an Illithid Lover (tm) (unlicensed), what would have made bg 3 the perfect game for me 🤔
under a cut because this got way too long and it's all just highly personalized rambling.
I really wish the whole Dead Three twist was just. not a thing. What if it really was purely an Illithid plot? A thousand years of scheming finally mobilized. I know they probably added the Bhaal & Co. plot as a tie-in to the previous games but it made act 3 so incredibly unsatisfying. It simply does not appeal to me at all.
Perhaps it ties into my desire for a fleshed-out evil path but I was kind of hoping, in my first blind run, that you could join the Elder Brain at the end of act 2. What if you could? What if it transforms you and instead of being a game over act 3 is a Swarm-That-Walks situation? (for those that haven't played that game; all your companions abandon you but you get really powerful). Its will protects you from stun and control effects and the netherese magic allows you to appear as any race (disguise/alter self at will, something like that) so you might better infiltrate the city and realign your assets.
Because your former allies are, of course, there ahead of you trying their best to demolish your assets and break your hold on Baldur's Gate, now that they know the truth of the Absolute and source of its power (the crown). And if you didn't side with the mind flayers in act 2 this would be your task. Perhaps the netherstones are still the key here, instead of being a way to control the Netherbrain they are the final piece, lost for ages, that would allow it to execute the Grand Design--across far more than just one city.
Of course everyone we know and love from act 3 would still be there, either under the Illithids' thrall or trying to stop them. Perhaps ol' gorty (and his Banites?) are the ones most actively searching for the stones, even as they finish affixing the last of "their" chains around the city. Perhaps the Bhaalists have broken free and might make unlikely allies for a "normal" run, or something you, as an agent of the Grand Design, have to force back into the fold.
Or perhaps neither of them have any godly ties at all anymore. I just think the characters of the Chosen are too good not to have in some capacity, even if the roles are reversed and they are no longer the ones in control.
I also think it's a crime--a CRIME!--that there are only two named Illithids that you can talk to in any capacity, and only four or five in total that you can talk to at all (if I'm being really generous. one of them is dead and the other just tries to eat you). I'm imagining at least a few more distinct characters, perhaps with netherese magic like you, secretly within the city to interact with and aid (or find and kill). Oh and give that poor thing in the windmill a name.
I'm also imagining the final battle. Whatever you do, your former allies have obtained the netherstones before you and are coming to destroy your master. YOU are the "final boss" and you must stop them alongside your fellow Illithids and the cultists under your control and the red dragon because that would be so cool.
I don't know where I'm going with this but I NEED more mind flayers in the becoming-a-mind-flayer game and I'm sad nothing like this will ever be made because something almost like it now already exists.
Pour one out for my evil squids 😢

hav a good sleep and good luck spending money !!!!!!!
okay okay i might have mentioned this to you before but because there's already the foot clam and then rise added the council of heads i think it would be rlly funny if all the different hidden city/yokai related 'factions' were named after different body parts especially the. the arms dealers. so like a lot of these gangs are joining together after the kraang left the hidden city a little bit shaken up theyre unifying they may even have the beginnings of stronger tech
so the hamatos are stretched pretty thin they're getting worn down on all sides and big mama js a very prominent antagonistic force on the day to day bc shes taken to having grunts film their fights with the various gangs to hold over her audience between nexus fights as rise in technology means alternate means of entertainment means less buisness for her. or something i actually hadn't thought of the details of big mama before typing this out but they confront her and she ends up injuring either raph or april haven't decided yet
tension is high around the lair bc no one has really had time to recover emotionally from the kraang and they're out fighting constantly (casey is actually p normal about it bc all he knows is fighting. casey needs therapy probably) so like they're all pissy they're all one bad day away from snapping
getting heavy inspo from the donnie betrayal arc from the idw comics my best friend the idw comics donnie thinks that forging an alliance with big mama is the only way they'll get the upper hand. leo is like violently against this because raph/aprils wounds are still fresh literally and figuratively and he absolutely does not want donnie giving his resources to whats in his eyes enemy #1. donnie disagrees and thinks that her influence in the hidden city and ability to find people and know when fights are happening would be really useful leo orders donnie to stand down (leader moment!!! so proud of him) but donnie refuses point blank. things escalate when donnie reveals hes already spoken to big mama and they've worked out a deal and it turns into a family wide argument
leos side is raph (im leaning toward raph for injury reciever i think. i just feel bad fridging him after the movie already did) april (april donnie fight!!! i also just dont think she would trust big mama) and like most of the 1-2 time appearance side characters. maybe casey sr too? but i could see her hoping mama can like get normaler because that's what she did. what are your thoughts on this
donnies side is mikey (who loves a redemption arc and wants to look out for donnie) casey jr (he probably knew mama in the future when there was literally no choice but to be allies) and draxum (dont get me wrong he HATES big mama but he agrees with donnie that shes useful to them + he likes mikey best) also todd. he gives them lemonade
splinter is probably more of a mediator than anything he would love for his ex almost fiance to decide to turn to good but he wants to trust the judgement of his eldest and the son he made leader so he stays with them and lets draxum watch donnie mikey and the gang
so donnie and mikey (+ co maybe) take up temporary residence in the hidden city probably in the battle nexus hotel. haven't decided if one of them has to fight in the nexus but it would be neat
they also 100% meet big mamas assistant who was very heavily implied in the show to be a turtle that was left in the lab and captured by big mama. it is venus she shows them secrets and shit and is like plot relevant and stuff
tagst mostly what ive got in my little brain so far im bad at wrapping things up so im not really sure how that would go yet. i do thibk its really funny that like half of donnies side are looking at big mama like omg i could fix her and he is telling them to shut the fuck up and draxum is solemnly nodding in the bg
OH HOLY SHIT I LOVE HTAT. I LOVE THAT SO MUCH
I think Cass/Casey Sr would be against Big Mama but only because one of the turtles would've told her about what she put them through and she'd be like AH! A WORTHY OPPONENT! BUT AN OPPONENT NONETHELESS!

Alright, alright, I caved.
After a slot opened up in me to be able to take on another show emotionally, I decided to invest in OwlHouse. I thought I would probably like it, but it won me over faster than I thought it would.
I’ve already watched a few episodes, but I realized that it might be more fun to do liveblogs, so here I am - with a liveblog...
I will be doing this episode by episode, and probably releasing them every once in a while. Everything will be under a cut, however, to save you all dash space.
If you’d like to follow, please track the #chekhov watches owlhouse tag!
(I’d also like to dedicate this post to the Tumblr Staff Rob, who did his best to restore this post for me when tumblr queue ate it.)
Without further ado...
Episode 1!!
Fair warning - this is technically not a ‘live’ blog, because I have already watched some of the show before deciding to do this, but I’ll still react to them to round things out.
Tumblr media
Immediately, this reminds me of Little Witch Academia... Anyone? No? Only me? I feel like maybe I’m getting my wires crossed, but there HAD to have been some inspiration taken from there?
Tumblr media
“No-- my only weakness! Dying!!“
Same, big snake monster. Same.
Tumblr media
Oh, backup snakes? This girl is READY.
Please don’t mistreat the snakes.
Tumblr media
Spider breath... This kid is on my wavelength. That griffin seems to be waiting to be put out of its misery though, and I don’t blame it.
Tumblr media
My child... where did you get that pigeon head though.....
Tumblr media
Nurse mother, do you REALLY think signing up your spider-summoning daughter for summer camp will actively make her antics slow down instead of ramp up to 60?
Tumblr media
Awww, baby makes AMVs... But also, NO ONE TOLD YOU TO THROW AWAY THE BOOK??? I know it’s symbolic, but goodness, isn’t that a bit much???
Tumblr media
wait a sec, is that Eda????
Tumblr media
Love the realistic bilingual kid experience of replying in English when your mom talks to you in your native language. Universal.
Tumblr media
Love this introduction of Eda’s character. She’s got that little green scarf on and everything. Like a tiny trash grandma.
Tumblr media
Oooh, okay, let’s extrapolate...
Lots of bones everywhere. I kinda love the aesthetic here - it’s gross and visceral, kind of like what Luz was making with her school projects. Yet in the middle of it all we have a rather clear gothic looking structure. Is this a power imbalance in the supposed kingdom?
The five circles of stained glass seem to perhaps indicate something like Hogwarts houses? Several different types of magic?
But Luz has no reason to freak out as much as she is - she LOVES weird stuff! Haha... No, I kid, I kid. I get it.
Tumblr media
“Am I in the bad place?“
Eyyyyy, gotta love shows referencing other shows. :)
Tumblr media
“Oh dear child... I’m not like you.”
Wow, what a DRAMATIC reveal for some pointy ears. :) I love her.
Tumblr media
We should all aspire to have such cool and stylistically well put together wanted posters. You can tell the commissioned artist really respects her craft.
Steven Universe fans watching this:
Tumblr media
I’m looking too.
Okay, okay, enough shenanigans, let’s have some LORE.
Tumblr media
I love this landscape. Teeth or bones, or whatever they are, this is one of the more unique settings we’ve gotten, though maybe I’m prejudiced because I love body horror and bones. The darker orange and red themes fit really well here.
Tumblr media
Things I’m desperate for: Giraffe Lore
Things I’m more desperate for: Eda lore. Why do her limbs fall off? Is she a zombie?
Tumblr media
Things I’m not quite as desperate for: Hooty lore. He can keep that to himself.
Tumblr media
well hello there mysterious chekhov’s glyph which will DEFINITELY not be relevant in the second chapter (or end of season? Maybe? Idk it just seems important).
Tumblr media
Ah, yes. That would have been my reaction as well, to be fair. Somehow I didn’t expect to see this guy so early on. I figured he would be a low stress early villain that got assimilated into the Found Family. Kinda psyched that he’s just there from the start.
Tumblr media
....I’m just gonna presume this is all true and accept it at face value.
Tumblr media
Old Escape The Cops Lady and Tiny Little Demon King, I need your backstory. How did you meet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love looking at background details, because like... you can tell the BG artists had fun. I particularly love how the 3 eyed toad doesn’t actually have any reward attached to her. Though the Knife Baby does intrigue me!
Tumblr media
“I write fanfics of food falling in love.”
Why am I being called out...
Tumblr media
“Noo! My weak nerd arms!”
Finally, a realistic portrayal of a protagonist thrust into a fantasy setting!
Tumblr media
.....................
Okay but. If only humans could pass through the barrier... wouldn’t that mean a human had to have deposited those things in there? Do they have a human on staff in this weird pseudo-prison??? Suspicious....
Tumblr media
Confession - when I initially saw ads for this show, I expected Eda to be a villain, not a loveable middle aged witch aunt figure. I am shockingly even MORE drawn to her this way. I expected betrayal. I expected her to be a lowkey threat?? But no. She’s just wholesome in the way a solid raccoon is.
Tumblr media
“Eda, are you okay?!”
“Yeah, this just happens when you get older...”
“........does it..?”
If I had to pinpoint the exact moment this show won me over...... it would probably be this one.
Tumblr media
I know it’s probably the wrong thing to focus on, but what is that insignia? Wings??? Like.... the kind OWLS HAVE?????
COINCIDENCE??? I THINK NOT!!!
Tumblr media
I’m really loving the landscape here. And those fireworks are... hmm... intricate?
Tumblr media
Gotta love the old tried and true Witch Apprentice Actually A Live In Intern trope. :)
Hold up...
Is that
Tumblr media
Is that Hooty? I thought he was just a door....
Tumblr media
Eda: This is my room for human stuff. I will also put my human in there.
. . .
Overall rating: I think this is a cute overall beginning. The prison break went hard! I enjoyed the characters and it kind of surprised me in a lot of ways. It definitely does a great job setting up a world with a lot more to explore while giving us a small taste of cool magic stuff and witchy battles. :)
Now on to Episode 2!!

*Levi’s POV*
Levi leaned against the stone wall beside him, arms crossed over his chest and the shade of the roof mostly hiding him from view as he stared pensively out at the open field.  The horse training was finished for the days, and the horses were being allowed time to roam in the open field for the time being.  One individual, however, was spending some one on one time with a mare, walking through some common techniques to get a horse to trust you.
At first, he’d wondered why she was using such a long rope, since he was fairly certain the distance between a horse and a potential rider during this exercise wasn’t supposed to be that far.  Quickly Levi realized that if she got much closer, the horse was not having it.  It was truly afraid of her, though she appeared to be making some headway, if she was able to lead the horse around on the long rope while the other horses stayed clear.
Horses that had been trained and bred to retain nerves of steel and ignore their fears, especially in the presence of Titans and the chaos of a battle, and apparently all of them were at least skittish around her.  That’s what he’d heard from the stablemaster, anyway.
Not a minor detail to be overlooked.  And a problem, if she couldn’t get around it.  Clearly, though, she was putting in the effort and time to fix it, and she didn’t mind going at the proper pace instead of trying to rush it.  From what he’d been able to observe, she was also approaching the situation with an admirable amount of patience, no outward signs of frustration or anger when she reached a setback and had to back up a foot or so on the rope instead of shortening it a little more.  Her approach changed slightly each time, too, attempting to adjust to fix whatever she’d done wrong the previous try.
Well, at least she had some positive character traits to be discovered alongside the worrisome fact about the horses he wasn’t going to ignore.  So he could give her some merit while his suspicion raised a little more.
“Captain.”
Levi turned at the sound of his title, noticing the individual approaching him from the main building, a file in hand.  He snapped a salute when he reached Levi, then held out the file for him to take.  “You asked for the file on Cadet Y/N L/N.”
Levi nodded and took the file from him.  “Thanks.  You can go,” he said in a distracted tone, already opening the file as the soldier walked away.
His eyes scanned the information in the file, which was surprisingly scarce.  Her place of residence was formerly Wall Rose, there was no living family, no record as he thought there might be after their spar.  She ranked sixth in her class--which didn’t at all match the spar they’d had, and gave further credit to his belief she was purposely holding herself back even when it mattered for placement.  Maybe she wanted to avoid the spotlight?  She wanted her talents to be recognized, but she didn’t want them front and center since she was still trying to scrape by without her full potential being noticed.  She excelled in individual evaluations, especially the physical and instinctual, but seemed to have some problem with others.  It was noted in her file that she was a loner and outcast during training, suggesting teamwork might be a point of issue with her.  The opinion of her classmates might shed some light on that matter--it could have easily been the other party and not necessarily her that was the issue.  Some of her classmates had joined the Scouts as well, if he remembered correctly, so there were some around that could be asked.
Levi reached the end of the file far sooner than he expected.
There weren’t any official documents giving age or place of birth, just an inked in note marking that she was in her early twenties--older than most new recruits, strangely enough--and the name of the town she was born in.  There weren’t any legal documents, and no visible records of her existence before she started leaving a trail behind in Wall Rose two years ago, with a rented space in her name and her official application to join the Cadet Corps the only real official documents here.
That shouldn’t have been possible.  Of course, if she lived in the Underground beforehand, it would make perfect sense for her to have no trail until she surfaced, but it was right here in ink that she was born within Wall Rose.
Had she lied?  Had she somehow managed to get topside without official immigration and slipped right through the fingers of the authorities?  The Underground would have fit a little comfortably in his working picture of her--loner, exceptionally skilled in combat and other physical areas, not having a record before two years ago, the street fighting skills…
He wasn’t going to write off the Underground yet, but how she might have gotten topside needed some fleshing out before he could consider it more seriously.
Appearing out of the blue and an unknown past only made Levi’s unease grow.  Maybe if there was more, he could have deduced what her reason for joining the military--hell, joining the Scouts--was.
More questions, and not much in the way of answers.
Dissatisfied, Levi returned to his position resting against the wall with the file now tucked under an arm, watching as the speckled grey horse with the black to white mane gradually came closer to her as the rope slowly shortened, but it’s caution and unexplained fear still kept it out of her arm's reach.
Tumblr media
The new recruit in front of him was so nervous he was trembling.  He might have thought he was hiding it well, but it was plain as day to Levi, who was leaning against the wall sipping on his cup of tea with eyes fixed forward on the recruit sitting on the other side of his desk.  He’d called the young man in as a sort of character reference for L/N, asking him to state his opinion on the young woman’s abilities and if they were an asset to the Scouts.
His final question, however, had caused the recruit’s suddenly shifty demeanor, and Levi’s gaze narrowed slightly at him when he hesitated.
“Are there any qualities you feel she possesses that would be harmful to the Scouts?”
The recruit across from him couldn’t look Levi in the eyes, on the brink of saying something, but for some reason holding himself back.  Levi waited for several moments before there was a spark of impatience starting to grow in him.
“Spit it out.”
The recruit’s shoulders hunched slightly, and he started to haltingly speak.  “She doesn’t exactly get along with other people.”
Well, that could mean a lot of things.  Levi wasn’t the friendliest person in the world, but that didn’t stop him from doing his damn job.  Antisocial didn’t necessarily count as something that negated her ability to perform in the field.  This kid needed to be more specific.
“Does she start fights with her comrades?” Levi asked bluntly.
“No, but she has been in a few--”
“Does she fail to communicate in the field?”
“Never, though--”
“Is she incapable of working as part of a group?”
“Not really--”
“Does she take actions that could cause harm to other members of the team in the field?”
“I haven’t--”
Levi let out a slow sigh.  He kept interrupting the recruit because he didn’t need long winded answers that spun the narrative a certain way.  He already knew he couldn’t entirely trust the feedback this kid was going to give him, because either he would downplay her abilities and up-play her flaws to make himself look better, or vice versa to make her look better, all based off the assumption Levi was asking because Levi was looking to have her join his squad.
It wasn’t too far off the mark, but Levi was considering adding her less and less the farther he dug into her background.  And while he knew he couldn’t trust much of what the kid was going to say to his face, that wasn’t the point.  It was what came after this that mattered the most, and it still gave him something to work with to get a little further in his investigation.
She communicated and worked just fine in a group, and while she had been in fights before, she hadn’t been the one to start them.  It was starting to look more like harassment of some degree on the other side that kept her from interacting much with her peers.  Aside from the pretty much confirmed antisocial behavior outside of the field, of course.
“You have to be more specific than ‘she doesn’t play well with others.’  I don’t always get along with other people--that doesn’t keep me from doing my job,” Levi deadpanned.
The recruit was really struggling to get it out now, his face all twisted up as he tried to rework his words.  “While her skills are undeniable, socially, her relationship with her peers is...poor.”
Is that really what this amounted to?  No one liked her because she wasn’t friendly enough with them?  “Your complaint is that she’s not a social butterfly?”
“It’s more than that, sir, she’s not…”
Levi waited another five seconds before he decided this wasn’t being productive anymore.  Time to kick him out of the office and go on to the next part, then.  “Either come up with a solid answer, or I’ll take your silence as a no so you can leave to take care of that constipated look on your face.”
The recruit looked put out and frustrated, but he ended up standing from the chair and leaving, Levi watching him silently from over the rim of his cup and eyes lingering on the door after it had closed.
This sneaking around behind the scenes getting dirt on people was usually more Erwin’s speed, but Levi had been around Erwin long enough to pick up a few tricks of his own to use when necessary, like in moments like this.  Levi could be subtle when he wanted to.
A few moments after the recruit walked out his door, Levi finished his tea, set down the empty cup on his desk, and followed after him, keeping far enough back that he wouldn’t be noticed.  Just as he’d suspected, the recruit found his way back to another pair of recruits and proceeded to go about cathartically bitching about the situation.
Levi missed the part where the other two asked why Levi wanted to talk to him in his office, but since that wasn’t the important part, Levi wasn’t too concerned, stopping just around the corner and pressing his shoulder against the wall to listen in to what they really had to say about L/N when it wasn’t being filtered by the intimidation of speaking with a superior.
“Of course miss ice princess is being considered for Captain Levi’s squad.  Why wouldn’t she?” the recruit who had been in Levi’s office was fuming.
“I don’t get why you two are so upset--if Captain Levi’s already asking about her, surely that’s because she has the potential, right?” asked the young woman in their group.
“You didn’t train with her--you didn’t see how downright infuriating she was!  If it wasn’t for the occasional lost spar round or missed question on a test, or a margin behind someone else in an endurance test, whatever it was, she still somehow managed to look perfect.  Even if you were ahead of her, it was like she was right there behind you!”
“Not to mention she didn’t even seem to try,” the third one muttered.
“Exactly!  We’d work our asses off, and then she would waltz in and do whatever they asked her to as if it was as natural as breathing!  It was so--so--so infuriating!”
“Sounds like you’re jealous,” the woman surmised.
“Wouldn’t you be upset?  She didn’t even try!  Then to make matters worse, she always acted like she was above us.  Yeah she usually beat us all in everything, but she didn’t even try to be nice about it.”
“Yeah--I know this girl who tried to be friends with her part way through training.  But she was always treating her like a plague--she’d move further away from her, or she’d ignore her attempts to talk to her or actively dodge her.  She made it pretty damn clear she wasn’t in the Corps to make friends.  And she was like that with everyone--she never let anyone get closer than necessary to her.  Sure, she’d give you some tips in the middle of training, but it was always just what was necessary, and she never let the conversation move to anything personal.  She’s a bitch,” the friend added.
“I figured all that time spent by herself, she was just focused on her training.  It got me certain that she was going to be top of the class--some say she should have.  Hell, I thought she’d be pissed when she got sixth, but I swear she looked pleased.  Pleased!  And I thought she wanted to at least make the top five with how fucking perfect she seemed.”
“Okay, so she was antisocial in training and she’s good enough at what she did that it made you all jealous.  I still don’t see anything that would make you hate her so much.  I’ve seen her around a few times and she doesn’t seem nearly as frigid as you all say.  Distant, yeah, but she seems...warm, if a bit melancholy,” the woman said thoughtfully.
“Don’t let it fool you.  She’s probably just trying to make a better impression now that she’s where she wants to be and is about to get placed--possibly in the best squad, now, too, apparently.”  There was the sound of a boot scuffing the stone, then a thwack of a broom handle being thumped against the offender’s head.  “Ow!  And she’s not warm and she’s not innocent.  I don’t know what she was doing, but she was up to something during training, even if we couldn’t prove it.”
“Oh?  And what was it?  She managed to get an extra loaf of bread on her plate?” the woman asked almost mockingly.  Clearly she wasn’t convinced by their ranting.
“One of the most infuriating things about her was how she could break the rules and still get away with it!  She used to sneak out all the time at night while we were in the Cadets, but no one could ever catch her.  Even when we gave the instructors a warning that she would be sneaking out again soon, she still wouldn’t get caught, and we’d get in trouble for lying about a classmate.  Not once was she caught, and we had classmates that could attest to her not being in bed at some point in the night, so we knew it was happening!  But we could never prove it.  It still drives me nuts to this day!”
“If you kick this floor again, I’ll hit you even harder--you are not messing up the cleaning job I’ve been working so hard on!” the woman fumed suddenly, and there was a bit of a scuffle before things calmed down again.
“I swear, if Captain Levi puts her on his squad I’m going to be so fucking--”
“Look at the bright side, you probably won’t have to deal with her anymore if that happens, because you’re nowhere near that league,” the friend teased.  It sounded like there was going to be another scuffle breaking out, so Levi finally stepped around the corner to make himself known.
“Oi.”
The two boys immediately panicked, while the woman snapped to attention, eyes flickering to a fresh scuff mark on the stone with a clearly upset face to see the two were already back to mucking up her hard work.  Levi ignored the two who were scrambling to their feet and trying to snap to a salute, walking past all three without even glancing at them.
“Get back to cleaning.  And find another place to bitch about superiors,” he added before he continued down the hall and out of earshot once more.
Idiots.
There was nothing wrong with a little bitching to get it out of your system, but at least have the decency to do it somewhere less public where anyone could find and hear you.
However, Levi officially had some honest first hand accounts of her relationship to her peers, and a lead he could follow further into this mystery.
She snuck out a lot at night when she was in the cadets, huh?  He wondered if she was still doing that now…
It seemed he had something to do now in the hours insomnia kept him from sleeping.  He could keep an eye out to see if she was sneaking out, and try to figure out where she was going on these little escapades if they were, in fact, continuing after leaving the Cadets.
The more he looked into her, the more uneasy he became.  He was already at the point where he knew he was going to have to bring up his concerns to Erwin, but he was going to make sure he’d gone as far as he could with this investigation of his before he went to Erwin.
Tumblr media
For the first few nights after hearing about L/N’s nightly escapades in the cadets, Levi didn’t catch anything amiss.  He was well aware of the best spots in this building to sneak out at this point, and had several points he liked to retreat to for some alone time that just happened to give him a good view of the surrounding area.  He was fairly confident that if she tried to sneak out, he would be able to spot her as long as he was looking--which he was.
By the fifth night, he seriously considered the possibility that if she was doing something shady such as meeting a co-conspirator in the the night, the wise thing would be to cut all communication once she was inside the Scouts.  If her nightly actions were something dastardly like that, then it was entirely possible that he wouldn’t see her sneak out because she wouldn’t make the attempts now in such a high risk area.
Still, Levi kept an eye out, always near a window at night so he could peer out into the darkness and see anyone trying to slip away if it did happen.
At long last, almost three weeks after the recruits had first arrived, he managed to catch a fleeting glimpse of a hooded figure moving in the darkness away from the building.  Believing it to be L/N, he got up from his seat immediately, taking the less forgiving but more direct route of climbing out the window and down to the ground so he could close the distance before she left his sight entirely and he lost track of her.  Going through the building down to the ground floor and to a proper exit would have taken him too long, so his unconventional route was one he didn’t second guess.
Landing quietly on the paved stones, Levi crept forward at a walk that was barely restrained from becoming a jog for the first few moments, keeping to the shadows like his quarry as he attempted to follow after her.  He wasn’t armed in case there was trouble, mostly because he didn’t get the luxury of enough time to grab a weapon--he’d only caught a fleeting glimpse, so he’d had to act instantly.
Levi managed to catch up to where he would want to be on a tail after two streets, feeling himself settle down internally once he was the desired distance away.  She didn’t slow down, plowing forwards with a purpose that told him she knew exactly where she was going and she was going to waste no time getting there--he just had to keep up.
Yes, she.  He didn’t have confirmation that it was her, but he was operating off the assumption it was between the story he’d heard and the fact he’d been waiting for something like this to happen and her to be the culprit.
He continued to follow her street after street, taking several corners, occasionally losing sight of her before he caught movement again and continued on the path.  After a few minutes, however, he realized these direction changes weren’t exactly pointed and purposeful, but random.  They happened too suddenly and without warning for them to be planned.
She knew he was following her, and she was trying to shake him.
Hoping to make her think that she lost him, Levi slowed down his pace, allowing her to pull a little further ahead, far enough away it would be more difficult for him to follow, but at the same time it would give her the impression that he was too far away and that she lost him.
Levi managed to make it a few more streets this way, catching the edge of a cape or a flash of movement as she turned a corner to give him a direction, until suddenly, he realized he couldn’t hear footsteps or any other sound in the night, and he no longer had even a fleeting visual on her in order to give him a sense of direction.
That wasn’t possible.  Pulling back had been risky, yes, but he’d been sure he could still keep track of her.  And he should have at least been able to hear footsteps in the distance, because she would have had to speed up to lose him so suddenly.
Did she have ODM gear hidden under her cape?  Had she taken for the skies to get out of visible range of the streets?
Wanting to test the theory before she could get too far, Levi used window sills, boxes by stalls, wooden awnings, whatever he could to climb up to the roof of one of the buildings, turning around swiftly with his head on a swivel as he tried to catch a glimpse of movement, a figure moving through the night either on ODM gear or on the streets down below.
Nothing.  It was just him standing alone on this roof in the night’s silence.
Where the hell had she gone?
Tumblr media
“Levi...why didn’t you bring this to my attention sooner?”
Levi scowled, meeting Erwin’s serious expression head on before he turned to move again, occasionally crossing the floor at an extremely slow pace, stopping for a while before he would turn around and move again.  Considering Levi usually remained stationary, it counted as a sign of unease.
He had just come to Erwin with what he knew about L/N, which admittedly wasn’t much.  For the most part, he was simply telling Erwin about his concerns and a bad feeling that he’d been harboring since meeting her.  He did have some legitimate red flags, like her apparent trips out into the night that were continuing here at the Scouts and her lack of a record from before two years ago with nothing to show she might have been from the Underground.
“Because it was just basic curiosity at first, but the more I heard, the more I had to be concerned about,” Levi said pointedly, lips pulled down in a prominent frown as he mulled over everything in his mind.
“Well, based off what you’ve been able to find out, if she is a threat, how much of a threat would she be,” Erwin asked patiently, his eyes continuing to track Levi as he moved about the room.  Levi stopped, turning his head slightly in Erwin’s direction.
“Erwin...she had me.  In that spar on the training grounds.  But at the last second, she shifted and threw the match,” Levi explained quietly.
“...I see.”
Levi turned around all the way to see Erwin sitting forward in his chair, hands laced together in front of him and pressed against his lips, eyebrows furrowed together in contemplation.
“Don’t mark her as an enemy in your mind, yet, Levi.  Let this play out a while longer, first.  This may be a situation where we need to spring the trap after it’s set to truly know the situation.  So far, she hasn’t done anything to hurt humanity’s mission regarding the Titans.  I don’t like how many unknowns there are with her, either, which is precisely why we have to approach this correctly.  There’s as much a chance we could be wrong as there is that we can be right about her intentions.”  Erwin’s hands carefully folded back over one another on top of the table, Erwin turning his gaze on Levi with that expression of his that usually appeared when he was mentally calculating a gamble.  “Continue your investigation as you see fit, so long as you don’t outright antagonize her.  We don’t want to risk driving her off, if these skills your glimpsing are as strong as your intuition tells you they are.  She could still be a great asset if she’s truly on our side.  Keep an eye on her, try to figure out at least if her intentions align with our own or run against them.”
“And you?” Levi asked suspiciously, looking to see if that gambling air about Erwin was tipping over into the dangerous side of things.
Erwin hummed.  “I’ll do some digging of my own, see what I can find.  Of course, if you can’t find anything concrete by the next expedition, going beyond the walls will allow you to get not only a stronger grasp on the skills she’s bringing to the table, but will help with figuring out her general intentions.”
“I don’t like the thought of having to babysit while we’re out there,” Levi returned flatly.  Expeditions were far too unpredictable as they were without adding a mysterious woman of unknown capabilities and intentions along for the ride with the task to keep a sharp eye on her and evaluate her every move.
“Then perhaps you’ll want to find out if you can trust her out there or not, first.  I know you can’t guarantee finding the answers to all of your questions in such a short amount of time, but you could at least find out if she will have the back of her fellow scouts on the first expedition,” Erwin said with a pointed look.  Levi could already tell this mess might get a little ugly, but at the very least, knowing he could trust her not to turn and kill someone on the expedition would go a long way in making his job digging into her background a lot easier.
After Levi gave a nod of confirmation, Erwin continued.  “In the meantime, I’ll make sure she’s placed in the formation so that she’s within your sight at all times.  Considering the rumors you’ve stirred up that you might be looking to recruit her to your squad, it would only make sense for you to be watching her out in the field to see how she does.  It’s also a nice excuse for you to make a few more direct inquiries to L/N, herself.  You’ve done plenty of work in the background, I think it’s safe to say you can start approaching her as well.  Subtly, of course.”
“After she shook me last night, she might already be on edge,” Levi pointed out.  She had to have known someone followed her.  There were no guarantees that she knew it was Levi, and he didn’t think she’d had the chance to confirm who was following her any more than he’d had a chance to confirm if he was following her.
“Then be careful about it.  But whenever you come to a decision about whether she’s a danger or not, I want to know.  This will go a lot smoother and faster if we’re sharing information.”
“I’m not stupid, Erwin,” Levi said with a long-suffering sigh, straightening up.  “Anything else?”
Erwin’s lips twitched upwards towards a smile, his hands moving to a drawer to pull out some paper and ink.  “Have fun making a new friend.”
Levi scowled again, turning to leave after it was clear Erwin was ready to move on to the next thing.  He was a little worried about this task to test L/N’s intentions to help the scouts before going out into the field, especially because he knew that look of Erwin’s meant he would set it up and Levi would simply have to observe.
But, he did have his own ways of testing her out as a person, and some people he could get to help without having to inform them of everything behind it.  He was already observing her from a distance and could safely continue to do so.  With the rumors going around he was looking to take her in under his wing, he could use that to his advantage to ask a few questions and approach her at the right times.
Yet, despite the fact he knew he would have help in prodding at her to see a bit more of what she was made of, he couldn’t help but notice that his sense of unease that had been tickling in the back of his mind was not shrinking.  If anything, it only seemed more prevalent.  As long as he continued to have this feeling of unease about her, he wasn’t going to let the matter rest.  He was going to figure out what she was hiding, if only so he could assuage or confirm his suspicions before they grew wildly out of control.
At least it seemed Erwin shared his concern, confirming it wasn’t all in his head, and there was cause to worry.  He only hoped they could figure out what was going on here before they had to spring the trap, as Erwin had suggested.
Levi shook his head.  He could worry about that, later.  First, he had a recruit to get a feel of before they went outside the walls, and he had to make sure he didn’t spook her while learning what made her tick.
Thankfully, he already had a pretty good idea where to find her in her down time, with all the work she’d been putting in to fix the one glaring flaw in her ability to go outside the walls.
The stables.

MCC 15 WINNER'S POV [RECAP]
RED RABBITS
DREAM
MICHAELMCCHILL
QUACKITY
SAPNAP
Tumblr media
I was a little bit late, I first joined Quakcity’s stream to listen to his mcc song, which was great by the way!! (go listen to it!!)
Quackity said that he is Florida, that is why he isn’t using the green screen, Dream is in the next room, and Sapnap is streaming from the bathroom.
Then I joined Dream’s stream and I was there the whole time.
1st Game, Parkour Tag
Dream was a god in parkour tag, like, it was literally a manhunt, he hunted them faster than me desperately trying to fall asleep. That's all I want to say. He popped off.
They ended up in 3rd place overall.
2nd Game, Battle Box
The pinks dunked the reds lol.
Quackity popped off in battle box.
They did really good at the beginning of the battle box but then the victory ✨ got in their head ✨ but they still won 6/9 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), they overall did really really well.
Quackity was doing really well, he was in Hall of fame at 8th place after battle box, and Sapnap was in first!
They were still in 3rd place overall.
Dream told Tubbo that he hated him, then jk<3. He also said hi to Niki.
3rd Game, Sky Battle
First-round
Dream said that his aim was very off today.
Quackity said that don’t let it get to his head.
Dream laughed and said that it's already in my head.
Dream got 3 kills.
Michael got 1 kill.
Quackity got 1 kill.
Sapnap got 2 kills.
The round ends and they got 2nd place.
Second-round
Dream got 5 kills.
Michael got 1 kill.
Quackity got 2 kills.
Sapnap got 3 kills.
The round end and they end up in 3rd place.
Third-round
Dream got 8 kills.
Michel got 2 kills.
Quackity got 2 kills.
Sapnap got 7 kills.
The last round ends and they end up in 2nd place in Sky Battle.
They end up in second place overall.
p.s. pink parrots did really well and ended up in the first place overall<3
4th Game, Sands Of Time
Dream had a bg of a different dteam fanart this time.
I don’t really know what to put about sands of time, because it was really fun just to watch, they had really nice communication and coordination.
And Michael popped off.
They coined 2754 coins.
And Dream threw tomatoes at Tommy and then twerked.
They end up in 2nd place overall.
Sapnap was in 2nd place, Dream was in 4th place, Quackity was in 10th place and Michael was in 13th place.
p.s. pink parrots were awesome and were in the first place then<3
5th Game, Hole In The Wall
Hbomb subbed in Pete, they were happy because of that, they were also happy because they manipulated the votes. (in this round, it was the fan voting for the game thing)
Dream privately messaged Wilbur.
Dream: ily
Dream: jk
Wilbur: I need space
Dream: wtf
Also, Sapnap went to change his pants because his balls were getting bigger.
First-round
Dream said that they were not colorblind so they won’t have any problem.
Sapnap won the first round, he did the Hbomb glitch thing, and he said he loved glitches and he loved Hbomb and he wanted him to be his cat maid.
Second-round
Everyone said ranboo looks snazzy and complimented him in the chat.
Also, they had this conversation:
Sapnap: "I am so hot and sexy."
Dream agreed with him.
Quackity: "You have a hot and juicy ass."
Sapnap: "You would sure like a piece of it."
Quackity: "Oh wait, I didn't put my clothes back on."
Sapnap: "No, no, keep them off."
Dream: "Okay guys, spam space harder than Quackity spams his mother- wait I mean how hard I spam his mother."
Quackity: "That was messed up, dude."
Dream: "Spam space harder than George tries to see colors."
Quackity: "Yes, I like that. I will spam space harder than I spam George's mother."
Sapnap again won, this time it was a glitchless win.
And Quackity said that is why Sapnap has big balls.
Third-round
They kept talking about how big Sapnap's balls will get when he wins this one too.
Sapna ended up in 10th place.
Dream ended up in 4th place.
Sapnap ended up 1st in top players of hole in the wall.
Their team also ended up in first place in hole in the wall.
Red rabbits ended up in first place overall.
Sapnap was in 1st place.
Dream was in 3rd place
Quackity was in 16th place.
Michael was in 20th place.
Sapnap said that he was nervous about TGTTOSAWAF, so Dream hyped him up, then Quackity and Michael followed, then they continued to talk about Sapnap’s balls.
6th Game, Ace Race
Sapnap went to pee, they said it's a part of Strat.
Then started to diss Sylvee during their second lap.
They all did trash, except sapnap, he ended up in 12th place.
Tommy whispered to Dream, 'dumb fuck'.
They all agreed that the map was indeed pretty, but they didn't like it.
Then everyone hypes up Niki<3.
They end up in last place in Ace race.
But still, Sapnap was in 1st place overall and Dream was in 4th place overall.
They dropped to third place overall.
7th game, TGTTOSAWAF
Greens dunked pinks lol.
First-round
They ran the freaking ad everywhere, so I couldn’t see the first half.
Michael, unfortunately, couldn’t complete it, so they hyped him up.
Second-round
Michael again didn’t make it, so they hyped him up, and told him and Quackity to follow Dream.
Third-round
They all made it this time, and Michael ended up in 6th place!
Fourth-round
Again, they all finished, and their team was in 4th place.
Fifth-round
Sapnap ended in 2nd place! Unfortunately, Quackity couldn’t complete it.
Sixth-round
Tommy was pissing off Sapnap since he also screwed him up in the 2nd round. Unfortunately, quackity couldn’t complete the race again so they hyped him up.
Then they ran ads so I don’t know what they were talking about, but according to the chat, they were still hyping each other up
Red rabbits ended up in 4th place overall.
p.s. Pink parrots ended up in first place overall<3
8th game, Survival Games
They decided to do the buddy strat, Michael will stick with Dream, Quackity will stick with Sapnap.
Quacky: "You are my side bitch Sapnap."
Sapnap: "No, YOU are my side bitch."
And Sapnap got excited so Dream told him to not be out for blood. [that is such a cool dialogue I am definitely using that in their dynamic]
They also decided to stay away from people.
Their coordination was really good, even tho someone straight-up went in, the other pointed it out. They all listened to each other.
Survival games were really really fun to watch, they freaking popped off, like actually popped off, they were in first place. I recommend watching it from their pov!
They overall got first place<3.
Also, Sapnap got 4k points and was in 1st place, Dream was in 3rd place.
The Final Showdown: Dodgebolt
Red Rabbits vs Yellow Yaks
Sapnap went to take a piss.
I myself had to take a piss, but the hype was too much. And it was 3 am then.
They all said it's a win-win situation, because if they win they will be happy, and if yellow wins, which has Captain Sparklez in it, which will break his curse, will also make them happy.
First-round
Sylvee and Quig hyped red up.
Tommy said he’ll be happy if red loses and he’ll clip it. (/j)
Sapnap got Punz and Jack.
Seapeekay got Quackity and Michael.
Dream got Captain Sparklez and Seapeekay.
Red rabbits won the 1st round.
Second-round
Captain Sparklez got Michael.
Sapnap got Punz, Seapeekay and Captain Sparklez (king popped off).
Sylvee was continuously hyping them up, along with Wilbur.
Jack got Sapnap.
Dream got Jack.
Red rabbits won the 2nd round too.
Third-round.
Sapnap got captain sparkle
Punz shot Sapnap.
Dream shot Punz and Seapeekay and Jack.
WIN FOR RED RABBITS!!
Sapnap got 1st place AND 4k points, so close to Techno’s record! Congrats Sapnap!
It was 3:16 am, and it was worth it!
And then Dream raided Sapnap, and stayed on his stream along with Michael, Scott, Ant, Punz, Hbomb (these were the only people I could comprehend). Niki thanked Sapnap and Dream and because their chat sent support to Niki during ace race, Dream and Sapnap said thank you for acknowledging that we sent you support(/s), and Quackity was talking with the pinks and Jack.
Then they just discussed the game and a couple of other things, I wasn’t really concentrating because I was pooping. At 3:30 am.
Quackity raided sapnap and joined their call along with Jack.
And the thing I comprehended was that Sylvee was so supportive of red rabbits that she drowned all the “hate”(/j) comments. And they again talked about stuff.
They talked about who they want to team with next mcc.
And then Sylvee joined their call and talked about the game
And then they continued to talk about things, I was drunk by then. I was drunk on the fact that I am not asleep yet, and its almost 4 am.
Quackity popped off in battle box. Congrats to him for his first win ever!
Also, Michael popped off in sands of time, also congrats to him for his first win! (/j) [this is based on a joke guys made in the beginning that it's first time for Michael to play in a mcc ever]
They also made jokes about how Michael is a mcc virgin(/j) and Quackity lost his mcc virginity last time. and Sapnap also mentioned that Dream was there when Sapnap lost his mcc virginity
They fucked it up in the ace race, but their comeback in survival games was amazing and phenomenal.
And truly, survival games, ugh, they popped off my lord. and if it was build mart instead, they were fucked.
They broke a curse too, this was the first win for a red rabbits team!!
Also, pink did really well, but they screwed up in the survival games., that's why they got third place.
During the survival games, Dream said that they won’t engage on the pinks because they didn't want to mess up their first place.
Everyone had really fun, and I also had really fun watching it. I’d recommend you all to go listen to Quackity’s song if you haven’t already, and watch the survival games from different povs!
And once again, CONGRATS RED RABBITS!!!

On the Baratie, Part 3 - a One Piece Mermaid AU Text Story
Third part of the Baratie story tonight!
Warnings for: Thatch x Luffy, Sanji x Luffy, bg Ace x Luffy
Continues off of past parts!
👒🐟On the Baratie, Part 1
👒🐟On the Baratie, Prologue
👒🐟On the Baratie, Part 2
~~
Sanji's never been left this speechless by someone else's food before.
He's long considered Zeff to be the best chef he knows, the mentor from whom Sanji's polished his own skills, once acquired from lonely textbooks in a cold, cold dungeon cell. Sanji's improved, but there are few dishes he can serve that he feels can top Zeff's.
"Well?" Thatch asks, crossing his arms, a gentle smile curling his lips.
There's a small feast laid out before them, and to an untrained eye, it looks simple. But when Zeff finishes his first sip of soup, he makes a low, rumbling sound of appreciation, and honestly Sanji can't do anything but silently echo the sentiment.
Food can be incredible. Not only do living things require nourishment to survive, certain kinds can bring out various physical and mental reactions in the consumer. The right diet can encourage healing, grant clearer vision, even strengthen the body to seemingly inhuman degrees. Food builds the body after all, and the right kind can cause miracles.
But some recipes, Sanji has heard, take food even further beyond.
And this food, this does all of that and more.
Because from the first sip, Sanji immediately feels his body thrum with energy and warmth, and he jolts. What is this? There's no way his body can physically change from taking just a single sip of soup...and yet it feels like it has.
To eat like this, every meal, every day, every crew member...suddenly, "the Strongest Pirate Crew in the World" seems less an obscure, far away concept, but defined in a way that Sanji not only understands, but leaves him feeling nothing but awe. This, he thinks, this is what you eat to be the Strongest.
Sanji hates to admit it, but he's never had anything like it, not even from Zeff. And the cook, Thatch, did it in with the exact same tools, ingredients, and kitchen that Sanji uses every day.
And while the physical effects are mind boggling enough, there's more.
Because in this food, Sanji can feel the cook's raw intent in an undiluted form that perhaps only Sanji himself can recognize and interpret, as a cook who strives to do the same, but has never quite managed to this level of mastery. And in every ingredient that Thatch added, in every careful stir, Sanji knows what he was pouring in.
Love.
Sanji doesn't set his spoon down until the bowl is empty, but when he does, his thoughts feel more organized. And this, Sanji thinks, this food...it's practically a culinary love letter that only Sanji can read.
And Sanji somehow instinctively knows that the love letter is addressed to Luffy.
Sanji's torn. On one hand, he feels that his attraction to Luffy, not even a day old, is painfully inadequate in comparison to not just the devotion of her current cook, but his ability to convey it through his cooking alone. And Sanji knows that at this moment, he has no hope of coming close to replicating the way Thatch shows his love through his food. It's the first time Sanji's felt this way about his craft, and it's humbling.
But on the other hand...Sanji slowly lifts his gaze from the soup to see Thatch with new eyes, but the man's attention is fixed solely on Luffy, who guzzles the soup without a care in the world, no doubt completely unaware of just how special it really is.
On the other hand, the things Sanji could learn from this cook.
"Thatch's cooking is the best," Luffy croons, as Ace reaches around her to roughly wipe her messy face with a napkin. "But! Sanji's cooking is amazing too, and Sanji's cooking will also be the best if he joins our crew!"
Zeff wasn't exaggerating; it really is an honor to be compared to Thatch. Sanji feels his heart thump heavily, and for once it's not just because of lovely, lovely Luffy.
Sanji doesn't have a response for Luffy, but at the moment he doesn't need to--because Don Krieg walks in.
~~
Things happen in rapid succession.
Gin and Krieg arrive.
Then the greatest swordsman in the world, Dracule Mihawk shows up, and the green haired idiot pounces at the opportunity to challenge him, and immediately loses.
"Hawk Eyes," Thatch says warningly, with far too much familiarity and lack of fear facing down a Warlord, but perhaps that's to be expected, given that he's a Whitebeard pirate.
"Thatch," the swordsman acknowledges. "The boy's not dead. Even if he were not under your crew's protection, he has captured my interest."
Sanji frowns at their exchange.
But then he's fighting, and there's no time to worry about it, and the Baratie's in danger, Zeff's in danger, so Sanji has to fight--
And then for some reason, Luffy's fighting.
Sanji's heart leaps into his throat the first time he sees her slam into Krieg, and he moves to abandon his own fight to go to her aid, when a hand stops him.
It's the Dangerous Man, Ace, the one who acted like he was Luffy's keeper, though that antagonism is gone from him now as he watches the mermaid engage in combat with Krieg. He looks surprisingly calm, and he doesn't move to help Luffy, or even to call her back, but instead looks on silently from the sidelines, leaning against the outer wall of the Baratie next to Thatch and the blue-haired man, who are likewise quiet.
"Let her fight," Ace says, though he and his crew mates don't look away.
"You don't care if she gets hurt?! That's Don Krieg!" Sanji spits out blood and tries to move towards her again, but Ace's hand doesn't budge.
"And she's my co-captain." Ace says, and Sanji jolts. "We're headed to the Grand Line. Krieg is nothing compared to the opponents we'll face there."
Sanji wants to object, to call the man utterly insane and heartless for using this as what, a training exercise?! for Luffy, who isn't just a delicate lady, but a vulnerable mermaid! Adrenaline has completely shot Sanji's restraint, and it suddenly doesn't matter how much stronger Ace is, because Sanji's about to give him a piece of his mind--but he stops.
Because when Sanji looks at Ace, he doesn't see the cold eyes of a master evaluating the performance of his subordinate. Ace, for all his power, looks so incredibly human as he watches Luffy fight. Sanji can tell that he cares for her, that he's worried, but above all, that he has absolute trust in Luffy. And it's that belief in her that keeps him rooted to the spot when Sanji can now see that he's itching to annihilate Krieg like he no doubt could.
It's the look that true family gives, that people who don't love you can never hope to replicate, and Sanji knows the difference all too painfully well.
And so Sanji turns to watch Luffy as well. He can't say that the fight looks easy for her, but she's holding her own, far better than Sanji would have expected. Despite being a mermaid, she balances easily with her tail to hurl punches that fly far and true with her devil fruit powers, before she spins on her arms to lash out with her fins, delivering a slam that sends Krieg crashing through the wreckage of his own ship.
Her fighting isn't what even Sanji could call particularly elegant, much more like brawling, but he still can't look away.
~~
Luffy's bare hands shatter Krieg's golden armor, before her tail deals the final blow, even as the mermaid herself, bleeding and entangled in Krieg's net, plummets into the sea.
Conviction, Sanji thinks, repeating Zeff's words, his observations of the mermaid.
The three by the Baratie make their moves then, all at once. Ace and Thatch leap forward to dive into the sea after the mermaid, but are slammed to the deck by their blue-haired companion before they can touch the water.
"Hey you! Blond cook!" the blue-haired man shouts, and Sanji realizes he's referring to Sanji. "Go in after her! She's eaten a devil fruit and can't swim, and neither can these idiots! She'll drown!"
"You'd best do as he says," Zeff agrees, and Sanji swears and takes off sprinting.
Down beneath the waves, it's like the battle overhead never took place, and Sanji wonders if he'd imagined it after all as he finally reaches Luffy. Her eyes are closed, and the majority of blood has already been washed away by the water. Her body is completely limp as Sanji cuts it free of the net so she slides into his arms.
It's his first time touching her, and though she settles heavily and unnaturally against him without a hint of buoyancy...she's soft. Small bubbles rise from her lips, and Sanji realizes that she's breathing underwater. With light from the surface dancing across her face, she looks so incredibly different from when she was awake. She's hauntingly beautiful and serene, and the blue veil over her makes her look like she belongs to another world, like a sleeping sea goddess waiting to be awakened by a kiss. She looks like a true mermaid princess straight out of a fairy tale, not a pirate capable of pummeling an infamous pirate commodore.
Sanji feels his own lungs beginning to scream, and regretfully kicks out, but keeps firm grip of the mermaid in his arms.
When they break the surface, wreckage is around them, and hands immediately pull them onto the deck. Sanji reluctantly lets Luffy go.
"Luffy!" Ace shouts, all pretense of calm gone as he pulls Luffy into his arms to peer down at her.
Luffy doesn't gasp for air like a human who's been under water, but rather takes a longer, deeper breath, and slowly opens her eyes as though finally realizing that it isn't fluid, but air in her lungs.
"Hey, Ace," she says, lips quirking into a smile as she continues to breath in deeply. "Told you I could beat him."
"So you did," he agrees, crushing her briefly against his chest, before pulling them apart so he can catalog her injuries.
"Thanks for that," a new voice says, and Sanji looks up to see the blue-haired man offering him a hand, which he takes. "I can't guarantee Ace'll agree, but I for one am all for more swimmers joining us. I'm Deuce."
~~
~~
(Deuce, probably: So Nami stole our ship, Usopp's following her with a half-dead Zoro and the two bounty hunters, leaving...fantastic, me alone with three stupid devil fruit users. Again.)
I did skim through the manga again for a vague sense of order of events, but I have zero interest in writing every detail of canon into my AU stories. Sure, I'm sure some things could have gone interestingly different that I didn't mention, like Lu possibly avoiding Krieg's gas by dunking her head under water, or Thatch sucking it all up into a black hole....but eh, you can imagine that if you want LOL! This was already getting too long ^ ^;
Some other notes: I re-read Novel A again, and confirmed several things:
1) Thatch is confirmed Head Cook/Head of Dining of the entire Whitebeard Fleet
2) Thatch's division, the 4th, is also primarily in charge of Dining, including but not limited to cooking, gathering food such as hunting and fishing, and presumably procuring other foodstuffs from their territory. I already HC'd this, but nice to have it be confirmed canon!
3) It's a little hard to tell from the wording whether he's just calling it that, or whether it really is Special, but possibly implied that he can cook especially energizing and nourishing foods (in the novel, stamina soup for Pops), possibly like the Kamabakka Kingdom recipes.
(note, I have not read the official English translation, so have no clue what they chose to translate these things as, I only got the original Japanese which is enough for me ^ ^;)
Regarding the last point, I do HC that Thatch knows those recipes and is friends with Kamabakka Kingdom cooks. I also HC that Iva-chan's okama aren't the only country or culture that has Special Foods like that, and Thatch has a very, VERY broad repertoire ;D
I also just love the idea of both Thatch and Sanji, master cooks, being able to read parts of each other through their cooking that goes completely unnoticed by everyone else on the crew <3
As always, thank you so much for reading, and any thoughts you'd like to share with me are immensely appreciated! <3

v-force episode 2!
aaaaaaand we’re back! i’ve got chicken fried rice for dinner and i’m hungry for some beyblade content yim yum
Tumblr media
THEY CHANGED THE OP!! okay i will give points to v-force for this one, the new visuals look great and they’ve got me hyped!! excited to see some familiar and new faces
Tumblr media
(flashback from the last ep) “if you think you can win by the powers of your beyblade alone, you’re sadly mistaken.”
then what else, pray tell, is tyson supposed to win with? is he trying to get tyson to call out dragoon? or is he in the market for a bare-knuckle brawl in the middle of the dish?? hope it’s not the latter. this kid’s arms make me uncomfortable. waaay to muscular for someone who’s probably like 15-16. then again, weirder things have happened in beyblade, so...
Tumblr media
anyway, back to this episode stuff. tyson wants a rematch, which is understandable, but im still hung up on the “how did he know my moves?!” thing which. c’mon man you’re the world champion! everyone and their grandma’s seen you battle, so why wouldn’t the guy know your moves?
although i guess that’s to make this mr x guy seem more intimidating. burnsopale talked about escalation when she was doing her 2000 liveblog, so my bet is this is v-force’s way of escalating when your mc is technically already at the top of his game. why not introduce some unknown competitor? what other choice did they have, really
also this isn’t me knocking v-force’s writing — i can’t really do that since this is only the second episode. consider this some thinking out loud, if anything.
Tumblr media
MAX!!!!!!!!!!! god i’ve missed this kid. hope he’s doing alright.
i will say, for all the smack i’ve talked about the art style in this season, i think it works best on max out of the character’s we’ve seen so far. the big eyes and bright colors already fit him very well.
Tumblr media
she’s dressed kinda like mr x so maybe they’re going to be introducing a new team?? i do like her design thus far even though i’ve only seen part of her head and a bigass hood. the hair and eye colors really work well together.
Tumblr media
THEY’RE SO TINY???? god if only the bg artists had moved that window up just a little higher. i’m not complaining, i think this is adorable, but again! very jarring in comparison to season 1.
Tumblr media
there are only so many times i can say i don’t like the 3d beyblades, so here i am using up one of my times. it’s not doing it for me. i miss the dramatic launches from season 1, man. feel like pure shit just want them back
Tumblr media
dj khalid vc another one.
so we are getting a team, then. they don’t look like they’ve used bitbeasts (at least not yet?? maybe chief’s corrupted data has something to do with it), but it’s certainly an interesting way to introduce them.
and don’t get me wrong, im thrilled to see ray again too (love him, hope he’s doing well) but i don’t want this post to end up being a mile long. also if this means we get to see the white tigers again, i’m all for it.
Tumblr media
the glasses falling down in shock is a good gag. i never really realized it, but we don’t get to see kenny emote like that very often.
Tumblr media
so kenny narrowly avoids being the victim of a hit and run, but would you look at that! it’s the two guys from the last episode. does this mean they’re actually working with mr x? or do they have their own vested interest in him?? still a little too early to tell for sure, but im leaning towards the former.
Tumblr media
max describes the girl’s beyblade as “having a mind of its own.” usually i’d say bitbeast, but it doesn’t look like she called anything out?? has her beyblade evolved to be capable of individual thought? has it gained sentience? jury’s still out on that one, at least for the time being.
Tumblr media
see this is why you don’t give 8th graders bargaining power. also, i’m still not sure on why they added hillary except to give tyson a “rival” of sorts. that’s probably not the best word for it, but it’s the only one i can think of.
for the record, i don’t hate hillary. it’s too early in the season for me to actually say anything, i just hope she gets a little more bearable later on.
Tumblr media
KENNY’S GOT PARENTS???? SINCE WHEN?? where were they when he was hauling ass around the world? also animation genetics have struck again, it seems.
also don’t talk to your mom like that kenny. jfc.
Tumblr media
AN INVISIBLE BITBEAST?? YOU CAN DO THAT?? the only thing close we’ve gotten to that is bryan’s falborg from s1, and even then, you could still see falborg, you just couldn’t see the air it was using. is this even legal?? granted we’re not in a tournament setting right now, but i’m sure we will be eventually bc this is beyblade, after all. holy fuck.
so that’s episode 2! i will say, i was not expecting things to go this way. who is this mysterious team?? who were those guys in the van and what do they want? where’s kai?? i’ve got a lot of questions and unfortunately no more chicken fried rice. tragic.
sorry if this ended up being a little on the longer side! hope it was entertaining nonetheless.

For the ask game, 💢 or 💎
(In case one of those have been answered already)
💢 what do you NOT like about your hyperfixation? is there something you would want to change about it?
for hk:
the mechanics - i really do wish there was a way to make the base game a bit more accessible lmao (idc much abt godmaster or the path of pain wrt this). it's got SUCH a good story but it took me months to actually get through the game because, being disabled, i got frustrated a fair bit with it sometimes which is unfortunate. while i do love the track objectively, there are some songs i just do Not want to listen to bc they remind of a battle i struggled w where the song played on loop too much ;-; or not even battle - the white palace sucked, and i eventually put on my misc playlists in the bg while i was working through it ahgmsgs
the designs - salubra was. uncomfortable for me. while i do appreciate her role as a shopkeeper and an interesting npc with how she obtained her charms, her design embodying an antiblack stereotype that is just. impossible to ignore if you want to reasonably get through the game with charms just sucks
the story - i actually don't have much issue w the story? it got across what it meant to. most of my issues come when people misinterpret what is presented / coded there (hallownest's imperialism, especially, when it comes to white fans. though it also comes with (malicious) misinterpretations of deepnest and its people, ignoring the point of the higher beings and the normal bugs (pale king vs. soul master // pk vs. radiance and how they both destroyed the others' mortal people though there's obvious nuance there w the moths and first blood etc // etc), and then of course the few who completely abandon the themes in-game when they try to set up who is the 'true' victim when there are multiple answers to that and, even if you tried to flatten it, you are literally playing as one of the main victims of the antagonists within the story).
but! that's just fan whatever. within the game itself i really appreciate the subtlety. it's very cool being able to dig through it and discover things for myself that was established in the art, or by dreamnailing something (or in the fact you're unable to), and just. it's cool! i really like the exploration you as a player/viewer have to go through to find out most of this and how it's up to you to connect it
💎 are there any fun facts or trivia that you would like to share?
speaking of being able to dig through for lore!!! i believe i've mentioned this before, but it's really cool to me how hk sets up the implication that hegemol, at least, held importance within the city (isma and ogrim it's... a bit more nebulous? ogrim's presumably more within the palace as pk's most loyal, and isma has her grove but that's not necessarily involved in city affairs)
although he is never really mentioned, and he doesn't even have any lines in-game as he's assumed to be dead, there are still symbols such as the statue within the city and the fact his armor still holds the city crest that indicates his importance during hallownest's prime as the capital's protector. they set up his role so easily, and with the added line from sheo like "large but surprisingly soft-spoken" it really helps you figure out who he used to be even though he never appears in-game other than a silhouette.

look wonwoo is just very friend shaped imo and i love that for him? like i would love him as a pal he looks like such a fun guy to chill with and ive always thought he'd be the perfect person to have late night chats with...
hehe i'll do my best! i can unfortunately have a bad attn span with reading things (my to read list... actually straight up my to watch/to read/to play list is horrendously large and will never be defeated 😔) but i wanted to check out your stuff since its always neat to see what other creatives on here are up to! also i had a feeling but i think that definitely also added to it i think! when you are writing for a friend and have that kind of sweet (and a little bit of a 😈) intent by it it does have an impact on the story in a good way! and up to u hehe! what kind of y/ns or mcs in your stories do you tend to go for?
hoshi is a VERY good answer and i commend your fighting taste HAHA. he always seems like he's having a riot when seungkwan is about to dropkick him too, so he does seem very fun to fight!!!! also seungkwan is a lovely person to be like! in general i actually don't know a lot of boo stans so it did make me happy to find out you're one!!!!
and yes 100% hahaha. i would fight minghao and i want it to be an epic battle, like I'm talking we are bound by fate to fight on a rickety bridge that goes from one end of a volcano to another fight. or i guess if it has to be mundane he just looks like he'd be fun to get into a lot of like... fake arguments with you know? mingyu (like if u told me that the tallest, and one of the most conventially attractive guys in seventeen was the butt monkey... I would not have believed u) and hoshi (I pretty much agree with everything you've said) are other options but mainly I am focused on fighting minghao hahaha
ok so another question (or sets of questions, rather) I'm always curious about... how long have you been a carat, what had u tip into caratdom, and... who was ur first bias?
(honestly its inconsistent in general but it is very strange that desktop seems to still have a word limit and u gotta squeeze everything into one paragraph which... tbh makes me a little insane like I tend to be the type to write a lot djdhskdjdhd... which... I am a little apologetic for HAHA)
- 😺 carat anon
yes!! i agree i feel like wonwoo would be a great friend to just hang out w and have deep talks but also just be silly w!! i think he and i would def have been friends post-hs.
ahhh dw and plz don't feel pressured to read anything haha i totally feel you, my list of to read/watch is suuuuuper long as well D: you said "other creatives" so can i ask what kind of creator you are?? you don't have to tell me if that will spoil anything tho!
mmm to answer your question, my mcs tend to be similar to me LOL or like versions of me i wish i was irl (idk if that makes any sense). usually kinda cool, bit of a klutz, that kind of vibe! but now i'm wondering if i should start branching out.... 🤔
i AM a boosadan and a proud one at that 😌 seungkwan is truly the ultimate bestie vibes, i know we would get along so well if we ever met bc we're so similar in so many ways!
omg fighting minghao over a volcano :o you're insane!! but awesome!! that sounds so freaking epic plz lemme just watch from a helicopter!! also mingyu a butt monkey sdtcvjjdswtkl LOL that's so funny plz 🤧
i actually only became a carat last year on left and right day (june 22?) what's funny is that my friend started stanning svt the same time i started stanning sf9 last march, so she would send me pics of dk and i was like aight cool i'm only gonna stan sf9 okay. but then she kept spamming me content and told me to watch svt play mafia (don't lie 1) and so i put it off. eventually i got around to it, and then just started watching gose in the bg until i realized it was FUNNY (omg who would have guessed). also somewhere before that, i learned all the members for her lol!!
my first bias was actually seungkwan! and it was in boo's past life destiny that i decided he was the one for me. but my bias wreckers have changed and been so volatile that i made a bias tracker for that asfdfgjkikl
what abt you? who was your first bias vs now? bias wreckers? how long have you been a carat? :o

Chapter 4 of ?
First chapter, previous chapter
A/N: I definitely missed the right day for this one, but the last week hardly even happened and time is an illusion so whatever! Anyway this chapter’s full of Lore and a Twist so have fun losers /j
Synopsis: When the twins split two years ago, Janus was tasked with raising Remus. His only help was the evasive and sullen Virgil- who he already had to wrangle like a stray teenager. The endless days in the Dark Side’s Mindpalace were broken only by monthly catch-ups with Patton, and the only thing that ever changed the stories that Janus used to get Remus to bed. This time, though, something was different: secrets were slipping through Janus’ lips- and past the divide between Dark and Light.
Ships: Moceit (probably just bg but I don’t actually know can you tell I’m a professional-)
Word count: 1122
That afternoon, after Logan and Patton had left- without Virgil- Janus faced a thousand questions at the tiny hands of Remus.
“Who were they? Where’d they come from? What were they doing here? Are they the ones you go on work meetings with? I thought there was only one? I know you like him!”
Virgil was no help- he’d shut himself in his room the moment he’d been let off of Remus duty. Janus knew he should check on the dreary side, but the leftover frustration from the earlier argument still fizzled in his chest, snapping at anyone who dared to set him off- and it had found an easy victim in Virgil.
Janus sat his kid on the stiff couch.
“Remus. Let me answer.”
“Why were you angry at them? Why’s Virgil angry at you? Who should I be angry at- am I supposed to be mad at you, Jan? I can do that, watch-” The side twisted their face into a scowl. Janus sighed.
“Remus.”
“I don’t like that tone, Mister!”
“Remus.”
The kid’s face fell like a kicked puppy’s, but Janus didn’t relent. “Listen to me,” He stressed. “You’re being immature.”
Remus scowled for real this time.
“Well, what if I don’t wanna hear what you were gonna say anyways!? Cause I don’t if you’re gonna be mean.”
Janus gritted his teeth, forcing the irritation nipping at him to still. He apologized to Remus, trying to think of a way to make Remus actually focus. He sighed as he fell on the only answer.
“Before the Light Side was a stable, loving kingdom, when King Thomas was just a Prince- there was turmoil.” Remus, as much as he tried not to show it, was interested. “The Prince had six royal helpers. The baker, the archivist, the advisor, the prophet, and the inventor.
“Of course, back then, life was a game. They were children, you see, and had given themselves fancy names and titles- but at that age, in that environment… it’s easy to get lost in the story.
“The first two children you know- the archivist was one day to become the advisor, and the baker stayed true throughout the years.
“The prophet was quiet as a mouse, creeping about as though he had already lost his seat at the table. When the others asked for his input, he was always surprised. He pointed out every possible outcome, turned over stones to see what malicious grubs crawled underneath. He brought the game to truth, added pressure until the scale tipped into fear- Prince Thomas grew to live in the future, trying to solve the kingdom’s problems as though the responsibility already belonged solely to him.
“The advisor of their time had a mastery of strategization, especially navigating the give and take between rulers to keep balance between kingdoms. He knew-”
“Why is everyone in your stories a he?”
“...”
“Jus’ seems kinda bias to me, that’s all.”
“...He knew what time and supplies they could bear to part with for the benefit of others, but he also kept in mind the limits of the kingdom, the needs that must be met to keep their own people strong. The Prince, however, always kind, often vetoed the advisor’s calculations in favor of giving more than they should. The pâtissier believed, in his unwavering efforts of peacemaking inside the castle and out, that their supplies and strengths were best given away.
“Thomas had a strong platonic relationship with the bubbly pâtissier already, and thus trusted his judgment more than his advisor’s. Because his own nature agreed with the pâtissier’s as well, he found less and less of himself urging to consult his advisor in times of division.
“His archivist, too, he found trust in- each time he chanced a meeting with the boy in the royal library, he would answer any question the Prince could think to ask with nothing but unbiased fact. Thomas would eventually find his way into the man’s affections- as happened often with the kind Prince- and once he was close enough to see his vulnerabilities and opinions he found they quite matched up to his own. From then on the archivist was his true, unofficial advisor, and the previous was pushed to the side by the Prince’s altruistic morals.
“His closest friend, though, was the inventor. Excitable and imaginative, he helped the Prince think outside the box, push past the politics of a situation to find the beating, bloody heart of the humanity he was trying to protect. He was brave and daring, and had no qualms like that of the pâtissier’s about going too far. As the Prince’s dilemmas grew more complex, however, the inventor’s habit of flitting from opinion to opinion made him unpredictable and sometimes rash.
“The Prince stayed up each night debating and worrying, pushed by the prophet into urgency and almost never reaching a singular conclusion- every debate turned to an argument at the hands of their many differences. The archivist and the pâtissier watched as the endless battle to form opinions, ideas, and solutions spiraled, the lack of sleep effecting every facet of his life- his childhood, really- and soon found that something had to be done about it.
“They decided to narrow down the amount of helpers in the Prince’s court, lest the goal of assistance be lost in numbers. What they failed to take into notice was that the true plague was but a bacterial dissonance, not an infectious wrongdoing.” Remus’ face was scrunched up in effort, and Janus dialled back on the long words. “The personalities and flaws in the Prince’s court weren’t the underlying issue. It was the unwillingness of some to see the perspective of others that drew them apart,” he remedied.
“The pâtissier and the archivist, however, couldn’t see that. They held counsel with Prince Thomas and ruled that some of his attachments were doing more harm than good- that some of them were infectious, that they’d only spread their illness to those around them. They ruled that some of his friends had to be sent away.
And that is the story of how the archivist became the advisor, and of how the prophet’s chair at the table was finally pulled away.
The inventor, however, stumped the pâtissier. While he was brave and powerful, he wasn’t as guarded as the others thought he should be. He had been unchanged by the pressure to conform, and the advisor was afraid that his lack of a polite filter could influence Prince Thomas, something that they saw as potentially catastrophic to his political stance.
Finally, they raised the problem with the inventor himself- and he had an out-of-the-box, unfiltered idea. Ironic, really, that they took him up on it.”

Venom Reading Order Part 10.
Dark Reign continues and thus my struggle to put 50 fucking events in order does as well. I am a martyr.
The end of our best boy Norman Osborn and it looks like we may actually get some Venom soon!!!
Part 10: I’ve Literally Forgotten What This Reading Order Was About at This Point I Literally Forgot it For a Few Weeks to Fuck Off and Go Read All of Daken’s Shit
Amazing Spider-man Extra #2 (July, 2008): Eddie Brock really needs to find a balance in shit to believe in
New Ways to Live #1 (September, 2009) Still going strong on the symbiote as a drug metaphor which is...sure something I guess. But going into the rest of this with an open mind I’m excited to see what Eddie Brock is going to do with no brain tumor making him make dumb decisions
New Ways to Live #2 (October, 2009) Eddie standing up for someone with a drug problem is so genuinely nice and oh he got caught up in his own moralizing again and she got kidnapped jfc
New Ways to Live #3 (December, 2009) “Starting tomorrow :)” god I love Eddie Brock so fucking much
Dark Avengers #9 (September, 2009) Mac and Symb really are going through it . I think the combination of Mac’s drugs, Symby drugs, Symby’s untreated craziness from past drugs, the booze, and also probably syphilis, are finally starting to get to them
Dark Avengers #10 (October, 2009) McVenom and their stupid little sky scooter are fcuking killign me please get them some fuckign therapy
Dark Avengers #11 (November, 2009) My girl Victoria gets her TIME to SHINE and i LOVE HER oh yeah I think McVenom is in a panel
Dark Avengers #12 (December, 2009) Victoria and Norman make another great comedy duo and if McVenom could be in this for more than a page I think the three would legit make a great fucking team
New Avengers #56 (August, 2009) McVenom is allegedly in the background of this one
New Avengers #57 (September, 2009) McVenom cameo. I hope everyone readin this for Venom has like, another character in here that they’re invested in cause this stuff is sorta arc important so I HAVE to include it.
New Avengers #58 (August, 2009) McVenom in the bg yet again. Jessica Jones is added to a list of Marvel heroes I find annoying and stupid but at least she isn’t like a literal fascist which is a high bar to reach in these comics.
New Avengers #59 (September, 2009) McVenom says a few words. Victoria is Perfection yet again and I’ve decided that Taskmaster is an alright sorta dude for a villain
New Avengers #60 (October, 2009) GODDDDD GET DUNKED ON NORMAN
Dark Reign: The List (September, 2009)
Dark Wolverine #81 (December, 2009) McVenom eating pancakes in one panel that’s honestly great. Character studies for Karla and Daken which is honestly great.
Siege: The Cabal #1 (December, 2009) McVenom for one panel and just....woof a LOT going on in an intense way
Siege #1 (January, 2010) McVenom small cameo. Norman Osborn is perhaps not the guy who should be in power perhaps maybe
Siege: The Initiative #32 (January, 2010) McVenom Cameo. A fun look at the ground battle and also remember that army training camp for indentured super-powered teens? Yeah this is where they ended up lol. Bonus why I like Taskmaster for a villain.
Siege #2 (February 2010) McVenom cameo. Listen I love Norman Osborn but the last page of this is fucking GREAT and had me jumping out of bed and hollering like a god damn baboon
Dark Wolverine #82 (January, 2010) McVenom mini scene and i ....i think they and moonstone fucked so......damn Karla that’s like half the team now
Dark Wolverine #83 (February, 2010) No McVenom but listen..........Daken....
Dark Wolverine #84 (March, 2010)  B R U H
Siege #3 (March, 2010) I’m....actually kinda sad to see all this going down?? I have become????? Attached???? To these assholes????????
Dark Avengers #14 (February, 2010) If you don’t like or respect Victoria Hand do not talk to me do not @ me do not even gaze in my direction she is the single greatest thing to come out of this whole 4 years of bullshit
Dark Avengers #15  (March, 2010) Bullseye this is why I’m ok with Daken sexually harassing you on the daily you piece of shit
Siege: Spider-man #1 (April, 2010) Oh wait hold on is that symb? Man I haven’t seen them in I think literal years at this point. Oh wait they’re still crazy oh boy. Also Mac’s Bare Naked Ass.
New Avengers #63 (March, 2010) McVenom cameo and hey wait I think a named character actually died cool
Embedded #3 (March, 2010) You get to see what happened aft McVenom hit that plane! And....Spider-man and Ms. marvel just sort of didn’t bother to follow up on it.......I just realized....
Siege #4 (April, 2010) In which I feel bad for Victoria and Bob and even Osborn, the Registration act is gone which is good, but I can’t help but feel the message is less “super heroes being controlled by the government is bad” and more “it’s ok for super heroes to be controlled by the government as long as its the RIGHT government :)”
Dark Avengers #16 (May, 2010) Alright so Noman’s in prison, which sucks but like.....come on. Poor sentry is dead. Daken and Victoria are free thank god. Moonstone, Bullseye, and McVenom are all in custody but who the heck knows where they’re going next. This entire It’s Always Sunny version of the Avenges is going down and I’m kinda sad about it. But hopefully we’re done with all this military/political/apocalypse shit and we can get back to some good ol fashion street level fun
Amazing Spider-man #647 (October, 2010)  Harry Osborn is simultaneously getting his character assassinated and being a fucking G O D all at once. Truly the a fuckign Osborn. Why YG TREASURE BOX is a complete mess and YG is playing with us. (A rant?)
First, its important to understand what or YGTB is and how it was promoted for this we should understand the events that happened before.
NOTE: YG will be referred to as a they since there are other people besides YHS Making the Decisions.
All of YG’s boy groups were made through survival shows.
BIGBANG=BIGBANG DOC
WINNER=WIN
IKON=WIN/M&M
So it was pretty obvious that they would reuse this concept for their new bg.
Now its safe to assume that the group was set to be made around Bang Yedam, he’s popular in Korea plus that he was the moat famous trainee .
Now this is the general assumption that the original silver boys lineup ot11 were the lineup set up to debut. This is the reason why they were promoted through Mixnine (GonSukKyu) and Stray Kidz (YG vs JYP). But we all know Mixnine failed and that some trainees left making YG To rethink their concept and lineup.
Now we must remember that prior to the show starting YG teased that Yedam, Hyunsuk and Raesung were basically confirmed members.
Raesung, due to personal reasons decided to not participate in the show (the best decisions honestly).
Currently YG as a company is at a point were every fandom in it has problems with the company. This is all due to the amount of mismanagement towards the majority if not all the groups and artists. YG despite being the house of great and unique artists doesn’t know how to mange them which leads to long hiatus, less music and cbs, etc.
Now lets analyze the problems with the shows format. Moat idol survival shows have the same format. Which is simply individual competition. This means that the contestants will be evaluated and the voting will be individual or 1 pick (produce 101).
YGTB showed the beginning to be more a team survival show in other words a group compete with other groups (Win). But around the second and third episode its revealed that the show will be individual, shifting the format. This is first seen strange since a consistent theme in YGs previous groups is their teamwork but this is because since predebut the trainees are grouped into groups.
In the show we are never truly explained about how the show works and if it is its vague and very contrictdactory. Plus a lot of unfair and frankly weird things are shown ( compared to other survival shows)
Examples of this are:
• Number of final lineup is always changing: from 7 to 9 to 7 to 6 to 5 to 7 it would change depending the mood od the ceo.
• YHS changes rules at whim: YHS changes or adds rules
• Missions: the missions to compete against the treasure team were barely explained. Winpink came to the show mostly just for name Dropping cause they didn’t show why they chose who they chose. The ep were winner 2seung was going to examine their performances was cut to almost nothing more than click Bait.
• The rounds or missions made little sense , at the beginning it 1:1 , then 2:2 (duo), then team genre(?)/concept (in my opinion they weren’t that different in my opinion to be a concept eval but oh well)and putting a position battle at the end ……makes little sense
In Produce and other shows its usually a cover, position, concept and then original song evaluation. Showing the growth.
• Lack of original ygtb songs most survival shows make their own songs fir the concept and final evaluations (example Mixnine). YG is company that prides on self production but not once was this used despite various trainee being able to ( Yedam, Hyunsuk, Byounggon, Asahi, Yoshinori, etc.) . Even if the boys couldn’t yg producers could’ve made songs just like in Mixnine.
• Lack of fan events besides liking a trainees video and channel there weren’t chances for the fans to feel really close to them. With the individual channels they could’ve done random lives but no. Or fanmeetings.
Despite this the show did release a series of interesting content that honestly saved the show.
• Not letting all the trainees participate in the treasure swap and cutting and not airing the performances certain trainees made. Leaving the fans to have to watch fancams.
Now to explain the real mess, throughout the whole show fans were confused on how they could help their faves in terms of voting. YG opens voting till the last 2 episodes and makes it a group voting meaning you have to vote for a group of trainees. According to fans this means that the lineup with most votes will have an advantage to debut. On the last ep its revealed that Isn’t case at all. The trainees only got extra points depending on how many ranks or lineups they were in. In other words again it was individual voting. They didn’t explain this till ep 10 when the voting’s was done. Along with this they added the final nail to the coffin. These online votes were only worth 20% of the final score. With onsite votes at a 30%. But YHS gets 50% of the score, so basically YHS gets to choose at the end od the day so fan votes mean close to nothing. If a trainee did well on votes but isn’t YGs fave they wont pass and vice versa.
On top of all of this YG makes sure fans aren’t in the recording of the ranking to obviously avoid discord and only announces half the lineup for what we can only assume is for drama. Only YG and some staff know the lineup. Instead of releasing it all its adding more anxiety and desperation . Which can be seen in the fighting, the rumors and spamming.
Now that we’ve established that YGTB is a mess of a show that makes Mixnine look good, lets talk about favoritism and screentime. And why I don’t understand YGs intentions and the lineup.
Ok let get this out of the way YG/YHS always plays favorites, this isn’t new at all. We can see in the show that there are trainees YHS likes way more compared to others. In other words he tends to be very biased. On top that he likes to brag. The first ep is basically look at all the visuals I got.
All it takes is to watch the show to know who Yg/YHS like more baaed on screentime and arcs made. Lets Look at the confirmed members most got solid screentime. Yedam is pushed from the get go to being a super star trainee that is basically god where other trainees don’t want to be against him. Junkyu is cute and talented a good future asset, we see how he gets screentime from the start with his confidence arc. Plus its important to note that in Mixnine YHS’s fave was Junkyu . Haruto from the start was the Japanese trainee YG was interested in and he Gets the most screentime from the Japanese trainees. Jeongwoo was promoted through his vocal and how yg likes him, he gets attention. Junghwan On the other hand gets way less screentime then the other member but still way more than other less known trainees.
That being said a lot of the team b, team c and team j trainees get very little to no screentime. Jongseob who won Kpop Star didn’t get much screentime and performance was cut. Mashiho’s screentime is mostly reactions or being a friend.
Silver boys got the most screentime overall they focused a lot on their teamwork and bond giving fans the hope that they would debut. Which is were im frankly confused and would love to understand the why.
Why make silver boys participate in this show and emphasize so much on them for basically nothing?
Why bring Jihoon back?
Why bring Seunghun back?
After hours and hours of thinking and reading opinions. I came to a few theories:
A) YG wants to debut a fresh, young and visual new bg. For whatever reason, so choosing the younger trainees makes sense. Probably modeled around Yedam for a more pop sound in comparison to WinKon Some accounts state that a lot of kfans were pushing yg for a younger and visual group. Basically discarding the older trainees. Also this lineup has YGs faves who were the younger ones. If this is true YG will debut Yoonbin and Masiho or Yoonbin and Jaehyuk (his screentime in the last episodes makes me think so). Basically in this theory YG had an idea from the get go and they only used the silver boys for clout. This is the theory that makes me the saddest tbh. But still it doesn’t explain why yg would care so much about silver boys. Like bringing them back and emphasizing so mucho on how they’re a team. Plus it discards the power Hyunsuk has with one of the most stable fandoms.
B) The theory before the lineup was dropped was that yg Is testing the silver boys for the last time which made sense till the last episode. But SB stans have been very loud and spammed his Instagram, trended a hashtag and are contacting companies. This means they have a strong fandom so this might help.
C) YG will add more members to the lineup I think 9 is more realistic than 11. Based on screentime maybe Hyunsuk + Seunghun.
D) YG will debut all of ot13, doubt this since YG hasn’t have that big of a group and I don’t think YG can handle it. If it was SM yeah but not this. (I like this one tho )
E) YG will debut ot13 but in 2 teams a pop team and hip-hop team. Pop=treasure7 Hip-hop=silver boys +a member (I love this)
F) YG will debut SB but under the black label.
G) YG wont do anything except debuting the og treasure7 . And the sbs will leave the company and split up.
These are all the theories I have.
Tldr: YGTB has a lot of flaws as a survival show being extremely unfair and the situation with the lineup is the most chaotic thing ever. Whatever yg does will make people mad.
The worst part is that it worked as always YG doing the minimal manages to pull us in just to disappoint us. Just that he managed to drag more people this time.
At this point I’m done with the guessing and the rumors, I just really want to know what’s going on and the security that my faves are ok even if they’re in or not in the group. Cause not debuting in the group isn’t the end they can debut with another group or go solo. My point is that it isnt the end for their careers.

So I finished KH3.  Some thoughts, in a bullet-point list, because my brain isn’t quite working well enough for connected prose:
There… wasn’t a lot of signaling to the audience about when the game would start ramping up to end.  Specifically, there was no middle game—there was plenty of low-consequences world-hopping and gallivanting, right up to the point where suddenly we’re rescuing Aqua and then everyone’s talking about a final battle and then oh heck it’s over.
Lots of things could have made this better, but the most glaring omission was an actual *final checkpoint* before heading onto the last battle.  Previous games had huge doors you had to pass, which would actually say “there is no turning back from this point, do you want to proceed?”.  This game didn’t, and it really could have used it (especially since there were some false endings before the actual final ending.)
Similarly, keyblade power levels didn’t ramp up quite enough as the game went on—yeah, there were some pretty powerful ones, but there wasn’t really an equivalent to Oblivion as an actual late-game keyblade.  There also didn’t seem to be a lot of form-changes with minor teleportation abilities other than Rage Form—and since those were the most powerful form-changes in BBS, it’s what I would have expected as a signal for “okay, we’re almost at full power, the game will end soon.”
Actually, just… the transition directly from a disney world to the freaking Keyblade Graveyard was.  Not a good idea.  A full location in between as buffer would have been really nice.
ALSO, some of the final -ga spells, and freaking glide, only got obtained in the Keyblade Graveyard!  That really implied that either the Graveyard would be larger than it was, or that there’d be something after it, or… something.
Pivoting thoughts here, the treasure chest situation was the best the series has done since the very first game—you actually had to work to find some of these, which was always one of my favorite parts about the first game.
The lucky emblems added to that a lot too.
Although every single time I found a lucky emblem, I screamed and/or groaned.  “REALLY?  THAT PILE OF BARRELS IS MICKEY TOO? HE’S EVERYWHERE!!”
Ratatouille is adorable and I love him.
But cracking eggs is apparently not one of Sora’s skills.
Actually, Sora pretty much has no skills other than hitting things with a big key.  Literally everyone teases him for this.  All of Sora’s conversations seem to end in him getting ROASTED, which is hilarious.
But of course, the best roast in the game was from Woody to Xehanort: “You’ve never had friends, have you?”
As always, there are just so many Xehanorts.
But unfortunately, despite that one speech about how if the world starts over maybe there’ll be less darkness(???), his motivations are still pretty unclear.  “Yeah I time-traveled a lot and recruited a bunch of people and created all these heartless and put in decades of work…. because uhhhh…. there will be more light in the world if it starts over!”
Meanwhile, Eraqus: “lol dude, #AtItAgain I see, you should probably stop trying to end the world, but then do you wanna hug?”
Speaking of characters, THE WHOLE GANG WAS HERE.  Literally basically everyone made an appearance.  Which I really liked!
But… the villains who had whole worlds to introduce their return in (Larxene, Marluxia, Evil!Riku, Vanitas, Luxord) didn’t have full-scale battles in those worlds.  Which would have been fine if they had them later!  They were, each of them, set up to become a bigger deal as the game went on… and then barely re-appeared between their introduction world and the Keyblade Graveyard, in which you didn’t even fight them one at a time, but three at a time, like each was suddenly inconsequential or something?  TBH, Luxord probably got the best deal of the bunch, because at least you kinda do fight him one-on-one in the carribbean.
Poor Demyx, though…. dude only had two scenes…
Even/Vexen was also kinda sidelined, but in a way that worked better (especially since he’s had plenty of spotlight earlier in the series)
HOWEVER, as a general thing, the return of LITERALLY EVERYONE was super cool!  I screamed in excitement when Ienzo showed up.  NEVER had I even DARED TO HOPE that he might get a moment in this game, and here he was with several!
THE IENZO + EVEN + AELEUS + ANSEM THE WISE (+ DEMYX???) REFORMED EVIL SCIENTIST CROWD.  I LOVE THEM.
See also: Xion’s return, THE SAIX THING, pretty much everything to do with Axel, Namine…
On the other hand, I kind of wanted more content for most of these groups.  I didn’t really expect it, but come on, if this game can’t throw me the bone of EXPLAINING IT’S MAIN VILLAIN’S PRIMARY MOTIVATION, it can at least distract me with more drawn-out side goodies…
I haven’t even talked about the gameplay yet
Bullet lists are hard
ANYWAY THE BATTLE SYSTEM WAS GREAT, and basically had everything I wanted???  Good motivation to use a LOT of magic, frequent form-changes(!!!), other cool/weird ways to do damage (focus lock, attractions), and of course the usual attack mechanisms.  Some form-changes even gave ways to attack at range!
(I ended up using ranged combat whenever possible, wearing three cufflinks at once for ALL THE HIGH MAGIC.  I avoided using cure pretty much always so that I could keep up the magic, lol.)
(On that note, I used a LOT of aero and water in the early game, because I got those cufflinks first, but unfortunately, like always, Thundaga eventually replaced almost all other magic as the clear most powerful.  Sigh.)
Also!  Wall-running and flowmotion!  Those are pretty much literally just The Things Sora Did In The Final Battle of KH2, but now he can do them All The Time, which really shows the character power progression even though due to video game mechanics, he had to start over at level 1, lolsob.
Speaking of Sora progression, he kind of has character development now!  I sort of finally care about him!  And then he just disappears forever lmao
Having ALL the characters back together really highlights KH’s tendency to have, basically, RECURSIVE TRIOS, which is kind of cool even though I kind of wish that maybe ONE of these trios could have two+ girls instead of one or none??? Please???
Speaking of sexism, Aqua saying “it’s my time to shine” and then immediately getting thrown across the room for Ventus to save her was… uh, classic.
Otoh Anti-Aqua was one of the coolest villain designs of the series
There were Not Enough worlds.
HOWEVER, The Caribbean in this game was the best KH world in the franchise’s history, IMO.  GORGEOUS underwater scenery, also gorgeous above-land scenery, AND SO MANY ISLANDS TO EXPLORE.  Completely non-plot-relevant islands!  That you could just go to!  And look for treasure in, like a pirate!  (There was a lot of treasure… that one sunken ship had, what, five chests in one place?  It was the ideal pirate aesthetic.)
Also the Caribbean had the best BG music.
Sora DEFINITELY has a crush on Jack Sparrow.
…On the other hand, if I’m gonna mention worlds I DIDN’T like, the plot in San Fransokyo was so cheesy I almost died.
Olympus was great though!  It had such good design!
Corona made me desperately want it to be summer, it was great.
IT’S TOO COLD OUTSIDE FOR ARENDELLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN SORA DOESN’T HAVE A COAT— but it was really, really pretty.
Axel’s “Don’t you know how popular I am?  I have tons of fans rooting for me!” was one of the funniest lines of the series.
There is not enough Winnie The Pooh content and that makes me really sad.
It’s even WORSE in that Sora actually SAYS, “oh, I’m losing my connection to Pooh, and I think I know why,” and then just… leaves, like that’s fine??? IT’S NOT FINE, SORA.
IT’S NOT FINE
Also idk if that cat plushie is a character from some FF game, but they’re the Worst Possible Version of Mandos.
(Cute, but. Hmmmm.)
ALL THAT SAID…
I have yet to mention the most important part of the game.
WHICH IS THE FLANTASTIC SEVEN.
They… are pudding.
They wiggle!
They ask you to play games with them!
They’re so cute!
They’re into vore!
I LOVE THEM!
.
Tl;dr: The game felt like it ended too suddenly, which made me sad because it was doing so much to fight my depression.  But I loved playing most of it, and I really need a flan plushie now…

i've been thinking about the whole 'they were supposed to be roommates but we were able to convince the higher ups to not do that'. in terms of production, does this count as a huge costly change or was that something they could've fixed more or less overnight? d'you think we should brace ourselves for a slew of those sort of changes and pray to god those changes don't lower the quality of the show in general?
Tumblr media
Man the battle for Shiro as the show’s LGBT rep is sooo fascinating to me. I would love to know more details about what finally made Dreamworks give the okay because what Joaquim dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery have accomplished, making a LEAD MALE CHARACTER gay on a cartoon for children, is an incredible milestone. Let’s talk about THAT SCENE and some Industry Stuff!
What probably happened with Adam and Shiro, is that JDS/LM went ahead and storyboarded the scene with the idea that they were boyfriends. They probably even threw it onto a leica (storyboard video timed out properly with dialogue) and added a scratch track (non-voice actors recording placeholder lines). And thus, they presented it to DW….. who had a moment of Puritanical Panic and said, “this scene is fine, but they absolutely cannot be boyfriends because THINK OF THE CHILDREN, so change the dialogue to make them roommates.”
Aaaaand that’s where the endless fights meetings with higherups on multiple levels would have begun. Actually I’m sure Shiro being gay had been discussed at length before. The introduction of Adam would have been a major catalyst into the more serious talks because it was JDS/LM saying listen, we are dead serious about this and we’re gonna THROW. DOWN. At NYCC’17 when asked about LGBT content in the show, JDS carefully assured the audience that“we’re fighting to create as open and as broad a spectrum of characters as we can” and the timing lines up pretty nicely with where production would have been on s6/s7.
The thing that probably finally won over higherups was JDS/LM coming up with a dialogue that makes it clear to the older audience who Adam is to Shiro, while keeping younger audiences completely in the dark. In case you didn’t see the episode, here’s their dialogue:
Adam: Maybe you shouldn’t go on the mission. You’ll only be putting yourself at risk.Shiro: You know how important this is to me. It’s worth the risk.Adam: Takashi. How important am I to you? […] This is your life at stake.Shiro: Don’t start that again, Adam! You don’t need to protect me!Adam: I won’t stop you. But I won’t go through this again. So if you decide to go… don’t expect to be here when I get back.
We don’t see them kiss or touch. They don’t exchange I Love Yous, or pet names or refer to their relationship explicitly. Yet it’s beyond obvious that they’re in a serious relationship based on the way they speak to each other. It’s bloody brilliant, and a pretty clever option to present to a higherup. Dreamworks gets the glory of having the first-ever openly gay cartoon hero and kids can just think Adam and Shiro are really good friends (like brothers, even!).
It’s hard to say how far along this scene was in production by the time DW caved and let Adam be Shiro’s boyfriend. Some of the shots may have functioned fine for a roommates scenario but overall the scene is a little too intimate in its lingering shots. I mean was avoiding spoilers like the plague but a friend assured me the trailer was safe…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
….it really, really wasn’t. These shots are intimate and on first glance I thought it was Shiro working up the nerve to talk to a fellow officer he was into.
To answer your question anon, if the boards and maybe a few BGs needed to be redone, and entirely new animation added, this batch of 12 scenes (shots) was probably completed in a few days or less. The entire scene is pretty conservative on animation which makes things easier. Time would have been set aside for this scene from the get-go and it was probably one of the last ones animated on s6 while they waited for DW to weigh the decision. I can’t see them having spent much more or less time on it than any other scene so there wasn’t a lot of sacrifice here. There was also probably zero extra cost on making it if it hadn’t yet been animated but even if it had…Animation is actually really, really cheap to produce.
So no, I don’t think we need to brace ourselves for quality drops. The show is running on a crazy schedule and is pretty excellent at knowing where to put the money/time and where not to and in such a way that most casual observers won’t notice. Such as
Tumblr media
vs
Tumblr media
Important scenes get love; less important ones get passed off to junior animators and/or get shorter timeframes. More importantly, as JDS/LM mention in Form Podcast, the quality of the art improves as animators get more familiar and comfortable drawing the characters. The quality of s6 is likely something we can look forward to for much of 7&8 as well. So really I wouldn’t worry about quality dipping.
Every show has client retakes. Some are small, some are big, “reanimate this scene” style changes. It’s par for the course and many studios have entire departments just for handling those types of calls. Allowing time for those changes are built into the production schedule of every show.
Voltron is a special bird though, its potential for changes are a liittle different than most cartoons because it’s a serialized story that needs to be plotted out in advance but there are Things that might end up being the result of some last minute decisions and allowances.
And by Things I mean Sheith. But that’s a long post of its own so for now I’m gonna leave it off here. Hope that helps, anon!

Here’s a quick rundown of my thoughts on the Live Action. THERE ARE MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD! Consider yourself warned!
Biggest issue right off the bat is Chad’s actor wearing brownface, which is bad for very obvious reasons.
Additionally, I didn’t care for how much Chad and Orihime’s respective roles were minimised- I understand (and fully expected) there to be some cutting corners when it came to characterisation, but for a movie that’s supposedly meant to be the first in a trilogy, it seemed unnecessary.
Even Urahara (who is a character I really dislike!) got shafted in terms of screen time, and he’s an important player in the early events of the series.
Didn’t care for some of the casting either; Yuzu and Karin are obvious, but again I have to bring up Chad. His performance was fine, but is it that hard to hire a naturally dark-skinned actor to play his role? Especially so when the character himself is heavily centered around his pride in his mixed heritage and the color of his skin?
Ichigo & Rukia had hilarious interactions on screen- made me very nostalgic for the early chapters of Bleach. The training montages were a fun new addition that felt true to the characters.
Comedic timing in a lot of the scenes felt really natural and played out well. Uryu and Ichigo’s first interaction in the classroom was funny, as well as Keigo joking about Ichigo dying any chance he gets.
I really liked the sets they used in some of the scenes. Urahara’s shop was cool, and the nods to Ichigo’s character song with his Bad Religion posters (albeit a bit too heavy-handed... I’m sure he likes more than just the one band lmao) were a nice detail.
Ichigo getting a little bashful when Orihime greets him in the park (and frustrated when she misunderstands his relationship with Rukia) was cute. I do like how moments like these made it into the film, but combined with cutting out great amount of her characterisation, it leaves me concerned about her being relegated to nothing more than a “love interest” in potential future films. Canon Orihime, despite being at the receiving end of some bad writing and missed opportunities on Kubo’s part, is still much more nuanced than a mere “love interest” to Ichigo... -but that’s a post for another day.
The music was very fitting of early Bleach and I liked it quite a bit. I only wish there was more of an original score, or they added more bg music in general. Too many scenes felt stagnant because of a general lack of bg music.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well the CGI for the Hollows was done. Loved how the designs were translated into their onscreen counterparts.
Costuming was pretty hit or miss for me. I liked the plain clothes and the school uniforms were fine, but the shihakushos looked a bit cheap to me.
Renji was a bit overplayed to be a villain character compared to his manga counterpart in my opinion. Didn’t much care for it. I also didn’t care for how they changed it so that Rukia AND Renji were adopted into the Kuchiki house? That he’s angry at Rukia for “squandering her upbringing as an elite Shinigami”. It felt like a bizarre and unnecessary change to Renji’s character when Renji’s anger and complex feelings towards Rukia (and his initial entrance as a “villain” to Ichigo) felt much more nuanced and interesting.
And then I had my suspicions when the movie was first being billed that Grand Fisher would be the “final fight” of the film, but I was not a fan of how Uryu stepped in to assist in the fight since I felt it really robbed Ichigo of the personal narrative stakes that he had in the manga. It made for a cool action sequence, don’t get me wrong, but as a battle that was so largely personal and one of the defining moments of the series, it definitely felt like a disservice to his narrative which is so deeply rooted in his relationship to his mother and his survivors guilt and how that shaped his personality.
Maybe I’m just biased because I have the knowledge that later on Renji and Uryu develop a great rapport and make a kickass tag team in the HM arc, but Renji just walking up and stabbing Uryu from behind was so.... disgustingly out of character. I realise he was gunning for Ichigo’s defeat early on in canon and even tried to kill him himself (on top of badly injuring Uryu in their initial confrontation), but even Renji’s earlier iteration where he was a villain directly opposing Ichigo & Rukia, he still had some honor and integrity as a fighter.
Maybe I’m being nitpicky, but there was so little blood. Without seeing the injuries, it made the stakes in battle seem that much lower for me, idk.
Byakuya Kuchiki you’re rich so I think you can afford to get a manicure or clip your goddamn fingernails. God his styling sucked.
The choice to parallel Masaki and Rukia as mother figures to Ichigo in the way that they protected him (basing this off canon comparisons, as well as verbatim from Hana Sugisaki stating Rukia’s relationship to Ichigo to be something similar to motherhood and mentoring) was one that I felt fit very well for the story they were trying to tell in this film.
Final note, I wasn’t emotionally moved by any of this film. The goodbye between Ichigo and Rukia was heartfelt, and I think Hana Sugisaki played it really well, but damn I didn’t get misty eyed or anything and I’m usually a huge crybaby.
TL;DR Pretty much what I expected from a Live Action adaption, changes I felt were unnecessary especially where characterisations were concerned. I knew going in that Orihime and Chad would be done a disservice, but I felt characters like Uryu, Byakuya, and Ichigo to an extent were as well- and worst of all, Renji’s depiction was needlessly malicious, missing the nuance and misunderstood motives behind his actions in the manga. The only characterisation I felt was strong and solid throughout was Rukia’s.
Despite this, there were some funny moments that made me nostalgic for early Bleach. In general though, it isn’t a film I’d probably watch again because I personally felt the negatives outweighed the positives. Again though, these are just my opinions! Please don’t let this affect your potential enjoyment of the film (except the brownface is definitely a deal-breaker; everyone should be pissed about that).
