Hiiiii okay okay, I need a second opinion. I finally convinced my partner to watch the lotr and hobbit trilogies with me, but I’m not sure where to start — whether to give him the chronologically accurate experience, or to show them in the order they were made. Personally, I love lotr best, but the hobbit is a lot of fun. So I’m not sure which would be the best way to introduce him to the wonderful world of middle earth lol. What would you do?
Hello anonymous! I would suggest to watch The Lord of the Rings first. If they love LOTR you should then suggest to watch The Hobbit.
LOTR trilogy is just overall super well done and has aged well. The Fellowship of the Ring is also superb movie to start with. I of course suggest the extended editions BUT if they are not that into it, they are quite long.
But yeah LOTR trilogy first, then The Hobbit if they like LOTR. And you can give a bit of warning that The Hobbit is not up to bar with LOTR trilogy quality wise.
Just my thoughts. Thank you for asking 💜

Tolkein asks: 1, 2, 11
1. If you could be the Middle Earth race you would like to be, which would it be?
Hobbit, hobbit, hobbit! I love hobbits and want to be a hobbit. I also always say my ED recovery goal is to eat like a hobbit.
2. If you were the Middle Earth race that your personality most matches, which would it be?
I’m not actually too sure. Maybe the race of men? Maybe still a hobbit? I want to say hobbit because I love nature, and I love food.
11. You can have four Tolkien characters over for dinner. Who do you choose and why?
Easily Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin! I want that chaos that was them washing up and eating dinner in Brandybuck Hall. I also love how they think about food and how it is culturally important and a positive thing for them. I would love to be surrounded by hobbits who would have a great time with me and not judge me for what I eat or how much I eat. If I mentioned before the dinner party how much I love cheese one of them would definitely bring a large wheel of it to dinner. It’d just be a great time. Plus I have an easy and excellent tomato soup recipe I’m sure they’d be interested in.

Hi! I hope you're having a wonderful day! I'm curious about your opinion for 11 from the Tolkien ask meme?
It's my day off, so I'm having a good day! Thanks so much for the ask...I think this is one of the most interesting questions:
11. You can have four Tolkien characters over for dinner. Who do you choose and why?
This one really made me think. First, I want to make clear I am thinking only of characters from the books. I admit I am a Tolkein purist - the books and the movies are two separate things in my mind. Some of my favorite characters from the books are Feanor, Glorfindel & Galadriel, but as anyone who has ever planned a dinner party knows, it is not just about inviting your favorite people, it's about creating a group that will enjoy each other's company. I couldn't invite those three, the evening would quickly devolve into a shouting match.
Elrond would be there, of course. He's the loremaster and hosts a lot of parties at his house; he sits at the head of the table. I'd invite Radagast (not the one from the movies - ugh!). He is my favorite wizard, and I'd love to hear about his work with animals. He might be a bit awkward in a group, but Elrond is there to put him at ease. For the other two...I really don't know. Aragorn is my favorite of all Tolkien's characters, but I have no idea what we would talk about. I might invite Faramir (we could commiserate about bad fathers) and Eomer, so we could talk about horses. Could make for a lively evening...
Who would you choose?

I LOVE your Eomer drawing!!! Will you ever draw more of him, or LotR art? Or would you ever draw something with Eomer and Lothiriel?
I'm so glad people like him 😭 and yes! Sure!
What other LotR art would you all like to see?

Hi! ALegitName here! Hope you're well! Halloween is almost upon us! Merili x Kârburz question! Do you imagine Halloween (or Hallow's Eve) is celebrated in any cultures in Middle Earth? I always imagined the Black Numenoreans having some kind of celebration. What do you think Kârburz would make of the occasion? An excuse to cause mayhem? Lmao
Hello again, dearie!!! Sadly, I was traveling on business all week and didn’t even get to be home on Halloween 🎃🥲
Though I doubt Halloween as we know it was celebrated in Middle Earth, I’m sure something similar to Samhain or All Hallow’s Eve was observed, as one might have seen in the England-ish region of the Middle Ages (though Samhain was Celtic, but some features of the celebration were adopted by England over time, as I understand it, pulled into All Hallow’s Eve).
I don’t know how Kârburz and the orcs would feel about the wearing of masks to hide from evil spirits. I imagine he would either laugh and say he ‘don’t need no stupid mask’, because he’s what people hide from. Or, he and his groups of nasty lads would put together outrageous masks and cause all sorts of mayhem around the city, peeping in ladies windows and crashing bonfire parties, all while drinking all their ale.
On the other hand, I imagine the Black Númenóreans would be all about grotesque ritual sacrifice and the burning of effigys …🫣

Eddie would show Steve real music this, Eddie shows Steve the wonders of Lord of the Rings that----I get it. But have you considered....... Steve gets Eddie into those ridiculous, smutty romance novels? The ones that even if they're bad, they're good. Have you considered Steve getting Eddie into the Indy 500? NASCAR? What about cooking shows? Cheesy soap operas where Steve literally knows every insane storyline by memory? WHAT ABOUT EDDIE GETTING INTO STEVE'S INTERESTS???

Bilbo says 'my poetry is pretty mediocre' and 'I think elves are just entertaining me for the fun of it' and then drops the most heartwrenching wonderful beautiful epic hopeful dramatic soulful poem you've ever heard and excuse me while I stand in the corner and contemplate the meaning of life.

Just to tie in my two themes this month----
Additional notes, because poll options apparently limit their characters:
Frodo finds great peace in watching the tides rise and fall throughout each day. He attends all the ranger programs on birds and seashells and fills pages with sketches and poetry.
Sam meticulously selects postcards in the gift shop for each of his friends and spends a whole morning writing and addressing them. He also buys Junior Ranger hats for his kids and a variety of Appalachian jams for Rosie.
Park rangers launch a Missing Person search for Aragorn when they realize his car's been parked at Avalanche Creek for three days. The search runs for almost a week before he comes strolling out the opposite side of the park, supporting one of the SAR techs who twisted an ankle during the search.
Legolas is first drawn to Olympic for the towering, mossy temperate rainforests, but the ground goes out from under him when he steps onto Second Beach for the first time. He spends an entire day watching the light and tides shift on the sea stacks, and he leaves feeling both full and hollow, like a bell that's just been rung.
Mammoth is only Gimli's first stop on a cavern tour, followed by Jewel and Wind Caves and Carlsbad Caverns. Wind Cave is his favorite for the unusual formations. He makes an obnoxious tween boy cry in Carlsbad for breaking off a speleothem.
Boromir is on a tour of military parks. He asks so many questions to the intern working the info station at Fort Sumter the kid has to go find the park historian. His favorite site is Vicksburg because that place was buckwild, though he silently judges one of the reenactors for his clumsy handling of a black powder rifle.
Merry also makes stops in Jurassic and Dinosaur National Monuments. He watches every park video, takes selfies in front of all the fossil exhibits, and earns his Junior Ranger badge at each one. He buys a keychain for Pippin.
Pippin actually gets four citations, mostly for trying to stick his hands in mud pots. He doesn't mean anything by it---he's just so delighted and curious about the bizarre landscape. He winds up with several thermal burns and dumps a king's ransom in the donation box on his last day.
Gandalf gets dinged by rangers for not paying the $5 fee for Trunk Bay, but he acts senile until they eventually decide to drop it. He gets postcards from everyone and responds to none of them.
Faramir and Eowyn are traveling together and do many of the same hikes and rides, but they do have some different preferences off-trail. Eowyn drags Faramir to a rodeo and the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar in Jackson Hole, and he goads her into Ranger Shelton Johnson's living history programs on the Buffalo Soldiers in Yosemite.
Eomer is bike-packing on his sport cruiser motorcycle. He goes to Roosevelt south unit for the wild horse herds but ends up spending half a day watching a prairie dog town. He takes 400 photos of them, mostly blurry, and texts them to Eowyn.

3, 10, 18 for the tolkien asks! 😊
Holy crap, you sent me the good ones! Thank you!
3. When did you first come into contact with Tolkien’s work? Who or what introduced you?
This is where I start crying because of how much I love my dad. When I was 8 my dad told me and my brother that he was going to introduce us to a series of movies called The Lord of the Rings. Each weekend we watched one of the movies (extended editions of course); Friday was part one, and Saturday was part two. I can never forget my first time watching the movies in our home theater and how wonderful it all felt, and how the movie would stick with me throughout the week until we got to watch the next one. I fell in love. I immediately became obsessed. I can’t recall if it was for Christmas or something else, but my dad gave me the books and I ate those up too. He also showed us the movie scores he had on CD and I remember waiting anxiously and peeking over his shoulder as he helped download the music to my iPod. The Lord of the Rings opened the gateway for many of my talents and interests and I have my dad to thank for that.
10. Favorite performance by any actor in the Tolkien film projects? Bonus: What’s your favorite scene with them?
Elijah Wood! I adore everyone’s performance, but Elijah Wood is iconic. How could he not be? He’s Frodo Baggins! I don’t even know if I can choose a favorite scene with him. Where we are right now with the newsletter has me thinking about his heartbreaking performance towards the end of the movie where he showed Frodo’s resolve and his waning strength coming together at once to try and finish his quest. But I am also really thinking of The Fellowship of the Ring as well where Frodo pulls Sam out of the Anduin and they embrace each other tearfully. Frodo’s love for Sam is so evident there and I just love how wonderful that scene is because of Elijah Wood (yes, Sean Astin was amazing as well).
18. The magic of Middle Earth is barely ever explained. If you could gain just one of the barely-explained talents or magic abilities of a person in Arda, what ability would you choose? Would you hide it or use it openly IRL?
Easily whatever magic Tom Bombadil and his wife Goldberry have. I love nature, and I’d love to be able to speak to it and sort of be one with it. I definitely would not hide my abilities, even during my righteous anger about the destruction of nature and even the littering I saw last time I followed the river near where my dad lives.
