These two are fun to think of ways they'd interact with each other. As they both have big personalities in complete opposite directions

An assortment of the grumpy grape I've drawn over the years. The ones with horns are mostly AU designs of him as a sort of fae...demon...thingy. Idk either, but he has a cool cloak when it happens.
All the ones in the 3rd row are drawn this year, but I haven't drawn as much Vaati recently because my brain rot has shifted entirely to FGO Bedivere haha. But he still pops up from time to time in my canvas, he's got a good design after all!

TLOZ translations always seem to be a bit shitty. I still see people talk about the weird translation of the Demise monologue at the end of SkSw. I think someone said that Demise was more general with his statement, as in there will always be forces from the demon tribe fighting against the light or smth? Not specifically "us three will always fight". (I've read it a few times, but hard to remember, sorry.) (On the topic of SkSw, I kinda dislike how much it impacted theories within TLOZ, some theories are really cool, don't get me wrong. But now, even games that existed for years before suddenly are being pushed to fit with the lore presented in that game. Ganondorf being the best example: He no longer is his own character who did bad things because of his own will and actions, it's now "He did it all because an evil curse made him do it. He had no choice, he was born as a vessel for the demonic lord." The implications that "the curse of Demise" also would mainly go for the already vilified race of the Gerudo, and make their one male an evil warlord is already kinda... yeah... no. (Not to mention that there are other demon lords throughout the franchise that have nothing to do with Ganon.)
Ohh speaking of this I recently saw this post that did a good translation of that very moment, and pretty much confirms what you are mentioning anon; that it's basically a promise of that cycle coming back moreso than Demise himself coming back (especially since his actual and definitive death is a big deal in that game).
But yeah, I agree it has taken a huge space in the way the series is thought about. I pretty much completely missed that hard turn, as I couldn't play Skyward Sword when it released and wasn't super into Zelda afterward anymore (I had gotten too edgy.... 2011 was the year where I got obsessed with every horror videogame in existence basically except for Resident Evil for some reason I could never get into that series ANYWAY WAY off topic........), so coming back a few years later had me very ???? puzzled about how the theories had reconstructed themselves around Hylia and Demise and endless cycles (it's not that it wasn't a thing before, but I wouldn't say it was as much a Series Trademark as it is now).
But yeah. Ganondorf having his own motivations makes him immediately stronger as an antagonist, especially since his deal is quite complicated all things considered.
I am having a thought about how a lot of Zelda villains' motivation is a sort of rebellion against nature. I have scratched enough digital paper about Ganondorf's situation, but like... Minish Cap Vaati is also very much motivated by his refusal to remain small and whimsical and seize power instead of staying in his lane (and then he gets horny in Four Sword so, maybe let's not go there), Zant is.... Zant, Hilda in A Link Between World has been cosmically punished for trying to reject the Goddesses and create a world on its own terms --like SERIOUSLY this is HORRIFYING I feel like we don't talk enough about how utterly nightmarish of a reality that paints for Hyrule as a whole-- Girahim is devoted but fights for the side more or less destined to lose... It's interesting how Hyrule is hostile to change and anything that threatens the statut quo.
(then you have the occasional Majora and Yuga, whomst I dooon't think really fit the above category --to their full credit! and then you have Bellum, who is..... a blob...... And I don't remember enough from either the Oracles game or about Malladus to put them in either category, I need to replay those games)
Hyrule really has this frightening quality to it when you stare at it for too long: that your two only options are to either graciously submit to your assigned cosmic role, or fight it and become darkness incarnate in some way. A Link Between World showed, quite starkly, that trying to escape that binary choice is *not an option*.

Shadow calmly revoking Vaati's dependent rights over Dark Link-
Art stuff: Wanted to reference Tetra, because referencing different excarnations of Zelda in this comic is fun. Also fondly remember her appearance in the Phantom hourglass manga.
Zelda having bad tan lines because of her gloves is probably only amusing to me. I used to tan and get freckles cause we'd be outside, but now I'm an indoors hermit.

Your Link drawing are so so so so cute, which one (either comic or standalone) that you’ve done in the last bit is your favorite?

This one! Hyrule is my blorbo, and I absolutely love how this particular picture turned out! With the messy hair and sleepy bunny Legend!

This one is a close second and I made it for @tashacee for her birthday. Minish Four and Pocket Vaati are so fun to draw. Lord Larry is just a friendly noodle of a guy
I have one more that I really like, but it's not a lu fan art. It's for a comic a friend is still working on, I'm not gonna share it to avoid any spoilers to their upcoming comic. (It's called Magic and Mayhem. There is a Tumblr blog for it, the art is fantastic. Highly recommend it)

I need an excuse to nerd about the chivalric romance genre because LOZ was made for it. I am very out of it and took a class on Spanish literature almost a decade ago. So. I might be missing some important points.
That said: Shadow is more of a real knight than FS Link/his colors, as well as technically a prince, and I will never be able to let that go.
A knight has several ingredients:
enough wealth to afford training and equipment, so usually that means land and a title
the oath of fealty (perhaps dubiously followed, but better than a mercenary!)
a horse (chevalier means horseman)
FSA Link, depending on how people write him, is either an apprentice smith or the son of the captain of the guard. Maybe he has bloodline clout, but it's rarely touched on. He probably has the oath of fealty, since Zelda trusts him to save the world. He definitely does NOT have a horse, or land of his own.
Shadow, meanwhile, is technically the son of the King of Demons. Boom, land and a title. Ganon might never intend to step down, but long lived kings are an established problem in monarchies anyway, and a prince is still a prince. Oath of fealty? Until Vio comes along with his sweet nothings, Shadow is arguably Ganon's most loyal little soldier. Sure there's his complete disregard for Vaati, but that's just demonic political intrigue enrichment. A little backstabbing is good for him. A horse?
Shadow has a DRAGON.
Vio obtains land and a title by dating allying with Shadow. Lord of the Tower of Flames. It's heavily implied that gave him the authority to order around minions and such. From a medieval standpoint it absolutely looks like Shadow and Vio eloped.
To round the whole thing off: Vaati has land and a title too, sort of. Mage isn't an official rank of anything, but he's got a magical tower full of minions he can order around, so I think it counts. He was a king once, and he tried to eat the power of a god. Vaati and Ganon's relationship is incredibly vague- coworkers? Actual allies? Marriage of convenience?- but honestly I'd love to explore the idea of Ganon making a power play by trying to woo Vaati. There's an alarming lack of courtship trope in this fandom and something should be done about it.
All of this to say that I'd love to read political intrigue drama or just a silly AU where Vio gets impulsively kidnap-married by the neighboring Prince of Darkness, and he has to deal with his absolutely terrifying new in-laws. Vaati is a bit like Vio but worse, which means they need to be trapped in a social situation together.

So I just watched the Vaati video about the Dragons lore and what really hooked me in was the part about Borealis and the Ice Hatchet.
Because to me it implies that Miquella had a good relationship with Borealis. Since Borealis is still alive by the time we get there and that one of its scales had been fashioned into a hatchet it seems that Miquella, beloved by everyone and has supposed bewitching charisma, was able to either make friends with Borealis or that the Ice Dragon may have given Miquella one of its scales willingly as a gesture of good will.
Vaati also mentioned Miquella was potentially Lord of Castle Sol and that he may have had good relations with Caria and I'm just sitting here like

Random Vampire + other supernatural stuff AU where Vaati is mistaken by the general populace as a Vampire but he's actually a Seelie type fairy who left the courts (the unseelie don't like him either) because he was fascinated with the dark magics humans could wield and had no interest in being nice to them, and was much more selfish than his brethren. He learned their magics and other human sins and has left his fairy life a long time ago to live amongst humans for his own fun and gain. (more au ramblings under cut)
He's spent at least 200 years in the human world and is a bit notorious amongst other long living beings as being a huge flirt and having many girlfriends at once. In truth he prefers the chase than actually having the prize so he's seen as very fickle and has broken many hearts who actually fell for him.
At some point one particularly plucky girl ended up having children with him. Even now he carries a locket of paintings of his kids when they were young even though they are all in their twilight years now (though having fairy blood in them they are longer lived than humans). He will gush about them if given the opportunity. He may not be as involved in their families as he used to be but their bloodlines are blessed by him.
His default human form actually looks about 12 (to his annoyance) but he is a skilled shapeshifter who likes to keep his appearance anywhere in the range of 18-25 because it's easier to flirt with people that way.
He slipped into a ball held by who he assumed was the powerful and infamous Cia but turns out she had been long killed by Colonel, who was turned against his will and took his revenge. The ball was to celebrate a curious new addition to the household. A massive, handsome man named Ganondorf with curious stitching scars and the scent of curious magics about him (tldr: my witch Ravio did a Frankenstein) and despite the many other beauties at the ball became absolutely enraptured by the man. And after the ball he decided he MUST know more about him. Thus the courting began. The others at the mansion are suspicious but his intentions are very innocent.
(AU tldr:) (Hyrule Warriors Link as the Vampire Lord of the house, Twilight is a werewolf and was once a monster hunter, a totk Link is HW's beautiful vampire bride, Ravio is a witch who traded protection from persecution (long story) to being the maid/butler of the house and allowed to explore his craft, and another totk Link is a angel/demon hybrid who was also a vampire hunter and knew Ravio when they were children. They are one big happy family and definitely nothing bad ever happens to them and they will all definitely live for a long time.)

“Where is that kid.”
“What kid?”
“That kid. You know-- that one. The repulsive one. With the mask. They’ve been out there on the battlefield for too much time now. If he’s dead we’ll have to collect the pieces of that damned wooden body.”
“Ah.”
Zant peers into a small globe - only contribution Vaati was willing to make to the team (thrown at them through a space-time portal accompanied by a very clear “I’m not getting stabbed by some green bastard for the fourth time, get out of my house”) - and gazes into it for a few minutes.
“If you could figure that puppet’s location out before next month it would be most convenient,” Ghirahim sneers.
“Shut up. It’s searching.”
“It’s being awfully slow in your hands. Give it to me.”
“I said shut up. It’s working just fine. Here, I can see the mask.”
“And?”
“... I can’t see the kid.”
“What.”
“The kid. The one wearing it. I can’t see him.”
“What does that mean.”
“That the kid is not attached to it. I can’t see them.”
The demon lord snatches the globe from the usurper and looks into it himself, since clearly he either can’t make it function correctly, has gone partially blind, or is too stupid to recognize a wooden child behind a mask.
Hm.
Alright.
So the mask is indeed there.
‘There’, however, is face down on some rocky terrain of sorts.
So distinctly not on the would-be-face of that pest.
“I told you,” Zant nags him.
“Shut your mouth.” Ghirahim hisses back. “You should have just asked it where the blasted menace of a puppet is instead of wasting precious time.”
“You can do that yourself.”
“Not when the thing is in your useless hands I can’t!”
“It’s in yours now.”
“It wasn’t before!”
“Now it is. Get to it.”
“If you value your tongue you best never speak to me like that again.”
The Twili bows deeply, twisting his body in a wild disgusting way.
“Oh, Demon Lord! Prized sword of my master!” he caws out, “Please, find the kid whose absence so vexes you at once!”
The Sword Spirit glares literal daggers at him, but says nothing. The blades are already bothering him by anchoring his gaudishly large clothes to the floor anyways, so he can consider his revenge executed.
Alright, look for the damned child.
The image forms a little too slow for his tastes, but at least form it does.
In roughly five seconds he wishes it had not formed.
Zant peers into the crystal curiously after managing to pull the various throwing knives out of his pants and sleeves.
He stares at it for a good minute, all will to bicker dying out completely as they both attempt to decode the image in the clear orb and either briefly fail or ruefully begin to accept the reality of the situation.
“Disgusting,” Ghirahim decretes.
Sure he’s a sadist who enjoys playing with his prey before properly gifting them the worst most painfully excruciating death he can offer them, but he has to draw the line somewhere. And he’s going to get that line and draw it right at abandoning both a perfectly good bloodied battlefield and the source of ancient horrendous power you’re meant to employ whilst fighting to instead repeatedly kiss your supposed nemesis on the mouth between giggles while laying face down on top of them kicking your feet like some kind of lovestruck youngster (which regrettably both marionette menace and green-clad pest are).
“What are they doing?” the Twili asks, seriously at a loss.
“I think this is meant to be a ‘date’ for them.”
“... I was under the impression they were enemies.”
“So was I.”
“Willing to kill each other, even.”
“Indeed.”
From the globe they see Skull Kid smack his beak back on the young Hero of Time’s lips again, causing a little laugh to come from them with a blush.
“This is horrid.”
“Absolutely grotesque.”
“What would be so repulsive to make you comment on it in such a way?”
Both freeze.
Ganondorf looks down into the small globe from well above both their heads, brows furrowed in an expression that’s annoyed, tired, and so not up for any crap that is not in any way related to him overwhelming hyrulean forces and finally getting what he damn well deserves.
He stares for a few seconds, just enough.
The sigh that leaves him is so deep and exhausted.
He waves a hand in the air with a harsh motion that says ‘whatever’ and just walks away.
-
“We should take a nap I think. The weather’s nice.”
“Won’t you get in trouble if you’re late?”
“They can’t hurt me in a way that matters. And they can see where I am and what I’m doing whenever they want anyways.”
“That’s not a very good thing.”
“Yes it is.”
“How?”
Skull Kid grins mischievously: “They think kissing is so gross.”
The Hero of Time looks at him intrigued: “Do they?”
His friend nods.
He kisses them right on the beak; the imp kicks their feet in the air with a gleeful cackle and kisses him back.
