Hazbin Hotel redesign ideas p. 1

Unfortunately I don't really have time to draw rn, but here are some ideas if anyone is looking for inspiration.

THE VEES:

They follow lates trends so they won't stick to the outfits and technologies from the times they died. We even see that Vox changed his screen (head) to more modern, flat TV screen.

Valentino:

He is a moth that realises poison that's basically a date-rape drug. His wings are hidden, looking like a coat, which makes no sense, a cloak, cape or sleeveless coat would look better. He is a pimp who died in 1970s. Val was Hispanic when living. Apparently, he has bad eyesight.

He is supposed to be a moth, but I don't really see it much, and the furr around his neck, that's a part of his body, just looks ridiculous. I would design him after some actual poisonous moth.

Cinnabar moth - The cinnabar is slate-black with two red spots and two pinky-red stripes on the rounded forewings. Its hindwings are pinky-red and bordered with black. The caterpillars feed on poisonous ragwort leaves. The poison from the leaves is stored in the caterpillar's body and remains even when they are an adult. As adult they leak the poison when they need to. Cinnabar moths can be seen flying during the day and night.

Six-spot burnet moth - day-flying moth that flies with a slow, fluttering pattern. It has glossy black, with six red spots on each narrow, but long forewing. They release hydrogen cyanide when attacked.

Personally I would go with Cinnabar moth, but make the spots heart shaped, and leave his inner outfit without the accessories (the suit with the white pants and golden heart belt). I would also leave his general body type but definitely change the neck furr ring, because wtf is that? I would play around with his glasses since he is supposed to have eyesight problems.

[Edit: Actually, I would make him a combo of both moths and make the furr ring his hair, because he is bald without the hat!?!?]

Velvette:

Velv is a fashion designer and critic, she is also an influencer. She keeps the Vees together and their image fresh on the internet. She's a British black woman in her early 30's. Originally her appearance was supposed to be doll-like, but that was changed to 'it-girl' and a 'bad bitch' with a darker aesthetic.

Velvette's outfit is reminiscent of Val's (heart belt, coat with hearts, black stripes on arms) but darker, especially her sleeveless coat that imitates his wings. Since Valentino is already going to be darker (in my idea) and she is a fashion influencer it would make more sense for her to be brighter.

Main thing I would change about her is her skin tone, hair, and Harley Quinn themes left from her old design.

When creating very human like characters it's important to actually get the racial characteristics right. Her ashy skin and "curly" hair just makes it look like they didn't know how to draw a black character. I would give her a different texture, something between 3A and 4B. A hairstyle like heart shaped space buns would be so cool, but even if not, her styl in a poster in the background is already better than the ponytails.

When it comes to her style I would get rid of pom-poms shoes and fingerless gloves. Her outfit for meeting the overlord was pretty okay, but I would change her other outfit. My inspiration would be PidginDoll's design, because he makes fabulous outfits and makeup looks for all bodies, genders and races, but I'll keep the 'goth' (it's not goth, it's just a little bit alt, mostly skulls) theme.

Blue accents like makeup would work great with her brown skin and would reference Vox.

Vox:

I genuinely think he has the best design in the entirety of the show, I would barely change anything. His outfit is similar to Alastor who he is trying to imitate, but he wears a tail suit, which is way more formal and elegant than any other suit, trying to showing he is a better, modern version of Alastor. I've seen some people got rid of his hat and gave him a tail made out a cord for fun, but other than that his design is good. Not too much details and not too little, tells us a lot about the character.

Maybe less stripes, because apparently Viv loves zebras or something. /hj

melanie is a 5 spotted burnet... look how fuzzy and broody that insect is. Bright cherry red spots to let people know to piss off!!

sasha is a long tail burnet moth. Look at that moth. It's literally her.

michael is a barber pole grasshopper!!

helen is ALSO a barber pole grasshopper but a different flavour

nikola is a spiny flower mantis. That insect looks EXACTLY like its about to steal your skin cmon now

jude is a sabretooth longhorn beetle!! Remember her back tattoo? It's a match made in hell <33 also. this beetle looks like it sets things on fire

elias is a praying mantis. You cannot tell me otherwise

martin is a batocera hercules beetle!! Big and full of love and violence

and the archivist is an oleander hawk moth. Let me know who I should do next!!

Mine are long tail Burnet moths or poodle moths

ohhh those are both so adorable!! i love hummingbird hawk moths (all hawk moths are amazing tbf) but the hummingbird ones are so unique. last year we had one that would visit my mum's buddleia every evening over the summer to drink the nectar. i also love leopard moths they look like little dignified fashion experts fbhsnfndn. also chinese moon moths because of their tails and the science behind why they do what they do is so cool

26/09/2022-Lakeside and home

It was another exciting day for birds seen from home with a Buzzard soaring over closely on this windy day putting up some Feral Pigeons, and I heard and later saw Ring-necked Parakeets flying by too. I took the first two pictures in this photoset of feeding Goldfinch in a bit of golden sunlight in the back garden, and a Starling I got a lovely view of on the balcony at lunch time. I enjoyed seeing a Collared Dove feeding on the balcony and entertainingly landing on a plant pot briefly. There were some wonderful waterfowl moments on my lunch time Lakeside walk with Mute Swan, Coot and Moorhen with their bright colour together seen well on Concorde lake where Mallard and Great Crested Grebe were as well with Mallards seen well across the lakes today. I took the seventh picture in this photoset of the Great Crested Grebe which I saw very closely the one that hangs around a lot lately and eighth of a Mallard on a raised area in the water at the back of beach lake. I enjoyed seeing a Swallow again at lunch time here too.

I got a splendid view of a dazzling Migrant Hawker dragonfly between the lakes really getting an excellent view of it to make out the blue spots. I saw a Speckled Wood going along the northern path which was nice. I saw a moth maybe a Box Tree moth the other side of the window at home tonight.

Daisies making a comeback, dandelion, hawksbeard/ox tongue type flowers, bird’s-foot trefoil still going strong, cornflower, fleabane St. John’s-wort, shadows of viper’s bugloss and ragwort and a stunning lacey white flower which I took the ninth picture in this photoset of a possible saxifrage maybe burnet saxifrage were flower highlights of my lunch time walk. I loved seeing massive mushrooms on the green out the front on the way to Lakeside its funny to see such big ones that strong group I’ve discovered of late underneath a tree out the front.

It was such an uplifting and inspiring landscape to be out in today, with the sun in and out really bright and quite warm when out with blustery windy moments also, and there was that glorious mixture all across today of the smashing green colour and the multi colours of autumnal glory beginning. I really liked seeing one of the nice trees out the front with a lot of its waxy green leaves gone red now looking great with sun shining right on it against a darker sky. It was somewhat chilly in the wind coming through my window and when out today and there was that delicious more direct September sunlight lighting up emerald leaves which really made me feel autumnal today. I took the third, fourth, fifth and sixth pictures in this photoset of views at Lakeside at lunch time. It was another good day of sky scenes in a strong run for them lately and I took the tenth and final picture in this photoset as the sky started to go a bit purple/orange with clouds built up at sunset.

Wildlife Sightings Summary: Two of my favourite birds the Great Crested Grebe and Buzzard, Mallard, Mute Swan, Moorhen, Coot, Black-headed Gull, Herring Gull, Robin and Long-tailed Tit I believe, Starling, Goldfinch, House Sparrow well, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, Magpie, Woodpigeon, Feral Pigeon, Ring-necked Parakeet, Swallow, Speckled Wood, possible Box Tree moth, Migrant Hawker and a little spider at Lakeside too.

Random question but do you know any moth species that has unusual wing shapes? Like long/ multiple tails, weird shape of the overall wings, maybe iridescent scales on the wings, stuff like that. I need it for some oc inspirations. Thanks in advance.

hmmmmm i'm not entirely sure. swallowtail moths usually have some interesting wing shapes/iridescence. long-tailed burnets are also super cool! if you want a fun color palette i love the four o clock moth and the sulawesi moon

Huzzah! Finally, a ref sheet for Anti-Cosmo and Anti-Wanda as they appear in my fanfics. Definite, definite improvement over the last two years.

So, here are some zodiac-loving karma vampires for you all. They are very blue and I will continue to tweak their designs as we go along.

HIGH COUNTESS ANTI-WANDA

Heritage

1/2 anti-fairy (Mexican free-tailed bat; father’s side) - White toes, long tail

1/2 anti-will o’ the wisp (Six-spot burnet moth; mother’s side) - Flat teeth instead of fangs, smaller ears than most Anti-Fairies, ability to take off directly from the ground

Overview

Confident and always ready to lift her husband when he’s down or knock him down a couple of pegs when cockiness gets to his head. Lover of traveling with a passion for art, style, and beauty. Between being based off the fastest bat in the world, along with being the medium of the nature spirit of wind and speed, Anti-Wanda is pretty much the fastest of all the Fairykind right now.

Often forward and blunt. Speaks her mind and does what she wants. Tends to multi-task, often eating with her feet while keeping her hands free to pick up and look at other things, or wave them around as she talks.

Whereas Wanda is cautious, thoughtful, and worrying, Anti-Wanda is reckless, courageous, and highly adaptable. Her natural habitat is running headlong into trouble, dragging a terrified Anti-Cosmo after her by the hand.

Overview

Super cocky extrovert who suffers from social anxiety do you see his problem? Seems to be bipolar to some degree. Loud either way. Your average awkward nerd who got annoyed and overthrew the government one morning before instating himself as ruler and making massive changes to the way things are done. You know the kind.

Mostly a man of honor when it concerns his people, but is less beholden to his moral code when up against humans or Fairies. He loves reading. He’s also a genie breeder, having begun the conservation program himself. In his manic state, he’ll forgo sleep and get a crazy amount of stuff done, but he has a tendency to put plans into action without working out the details. In his depressive state, he’s very sensitive, disconnected, and constantly stressed.

Whereas Cosmo is mostly dumb but has an interest in the sciences and stars, Anti-Cosmo has a brilliant mind, but doesn’t understand electronics and can be completely oblivious to the feelings of others.
