“This is not how I meant to begin. I meant to give you wine and fruit and cheese. I meant to tell you how your hair is as beautiful as curling woodsmoke, your eyes the exact color of walnuts. I thought I could compose an ode about it, but I am not very good at odes.” I laugh, and he covers his heart as though stung by cruelty. (The Cruel Prince, scene between Jude and Locke)
“Oh yes. Though you were a year my senior, and it was hopeless, I absolutely mooned over you. When you were gone from Court, I refused any food but tea and toast for a month.” I cannot help snorting over the sheer absurdity of his statement. He puts a hand to my heart. “Ah, and now you laugh. It is my curse to adore cruel women.” (The Stolen Heir, scene between Wren and Oak) Jude and Wren, casually laughing at a love-talker's face who was trying to woo them.

Dance to Die For
A short little thing of Magpie and Zulene meeting for the first time!! @ask-the-troll-boys is where you’ll find Magpie
Hey really fun fact: I found this in my drafts from whenever the fuck asdgksrg
CW for Blood and. Mild torture? Like it should be fine. But there’s a knife and it’s Magpie, so. Self-explanatory.
It's been a slow night. Er, well, every night is slow, but this one more so than usual. Zulene usually gets at least one customer in here by now, wandering around looking at stuff. They work hard to make and/or find these things! Who wouldn't want a bullet made from a coin stolen from a celebrity highblood?! Most people, obviously. Okay, but what about this knife that looks dubiously and vaguely old? They taught themself to metalwork for that! Sure, it looks weird, and the squiggles are for looks, but damn! And that weirdass fox mask they found in a dumpster?! They washed it, it's fine now! It even smells like an old dead fox! Was it the store that sucked…? No, everyone else must be wrong.
Lost in thought, Zu almost didn't notice someone strolling in. They certainly didn't notice someone standing in front of the door, blocking line of sight. Zu paled as they locked eyes with the "customer." They couldn't speak as the "stranger" confidently walked over to the knife's case, admiring it. He couldn't be, right? There's no way THE Magpie was in their shop, Zu must be hallucinating! But there he was, glancing ever so subtly at the lime-finned oddity shop owner.
Magpie smirked. He hasn't even said anything yet and his prey was already almost as pale as he was. Oh, they looked like they were tough. They must think they're real tough, what with those gold piercings and gaudy tattoos. Who do they think they are? A screamer from the looks of it. He wonders how long it'll take, how loud they'll yell, how much they'll beg for their life…
Zulene doesn't know how it all happened. It was all so fast. Magpie asked about the knife, and, what, did they say something about highbloods? Scum of society? It's all a blur, right up until the knife plunged through their hand and they cried out in pain. Magpie chuckles, twisting the knife and sinking a finger onto the wound. "FfffUCK!" Zulene's hand is currently pinned to the counter by the knife. There's no way they're moving while it's stuck there. Shit, shit, shit. This is gonna hurt. They take Magpie by surprise, gripping his hand around the knife handle and pulling it out of their hand. They were holding hands…. And so, their dance of death began. At first, Magpie practically waltzes Zulene around the shop, cutting into them with the knife and overpowering them. Zulene figured out quite quickly about Magpie's healing after gouging a hole in his neck. And that was all they needed to turn the tables around.
"Alright pretty boy, my turn." Magpie puts a bloodied finger to Zulene's cheek, whispering, "So you think I am pretty, do you?" Zulene could barely hide their flushed face as the edges of their eyes sparked and lit up. And as simple as that, they began to heal. Magpie glances at his own finger that Zu hand managed to cut a few seconds ago. It bled. And bled. And refused to heal. He knew limes could be different, but this one…they were very interesting.
And so, the two continued. One slashed the other, then the other slammed the one against a case. Back and forth, to and fro, the two twirled and stabbed. It wasn't until they were both panting, slick with blood and sweat, that they split away from each other, staring each other down. And before they both knew it, Zulene was on top of Magpie, weakly holding the knife to his throat. Their theft ability doesn’t last too long, and they were on the brink of exhaustion. "I… Gotchu… Fucker…"
Magpie whispered, "You are… quite the specimen…" and his eyes rolled back as he passed out from blood loss.
Zulene pulls back the knife, and before they could end it… They feel something hard connect with their neck, and the world went black. When they awoke, head pounding with a migraine, Magpie was nowhere to be found. The shop was cleaner than when they opened and a note with a phone number on it was in their pocket.
He could've at least paid for the knife.

Fnaf timeline from my understanding and knowledge.
Please correct me if i am wrong. I am open to anything. This will be long. Part #1
Alright so in the 1970s two men named Henry Emily and William Afton were mechanical geniuses, while also having families. Henry had a daughter named Charlotte while William had a wife and three children, Micheal the oldest, Elizabeth the middle child, and Evan the youngest (Evan is known as crying child so that is how I will address him.), they were way ahead of their time with creating animatronics so they opened a restaurant (Fredbear's pizzeria) Henry and William created Fredbear and Spring Bonnie for the restaurant to entertain younger audiences , they are both spring-lock animatronics meaning they operate using spring locks mechanisms which are extremely dangerous, these animatronics can also be mascot costumes meant to be worn by the employees. Note, when in said animatronic you have to be careful because even the slightest bit of moisture will cause the spring-lock mechanisms to malfunction and snap back into place killing you slowly. One night Fredbears is hosting a birthday party and one of these kids attending is Henry Emily's daughter, Charlotte. During the party, Charlotte gets locked outside by other children in alley behind the restaurant. While she was trapped outside William approached her in his purple car, he stepped out, and killed her. Knowing the rain would wash away the evidence, he dragged her to the dumpsters and left her there. Before this Henry created an animatronic for the sole purpose of protecting his daughter. Its name was security puppet. Every day security puppet would make sure Charlotte was safe, observing through a crack in its box but on the day Charlotte was murdered by William security puppet was trapped by the same kids who locked Charlotte outside. William knew this. He knew the animatronic would not be able to stop him. Security puppet broke out from the box to go search for Charlotte, but upon seeing her it knew it failed its job so it crawled through the rain, getting drenched. Breaking down, it crawls next to her and lays down. Letting her soul into its body. Security puppet is now Charlotte given a second chance. After the murder of Charlotte, Henry just kinda disappears for a while. Fredbear gained a lot of popularity so the company created merch, a tv show called Fredbear and friends, and a sister locations. That sister locations being called “Circus Babys Pizza world”. It had a handful of main animatronics. It had a purple and white bear with a speaker on its chest named Funtime Freddy, a pink and white fox named Funtime Foxy, a blue, purple, and white ballerina named Ballora, and a clown girl with red pigtails named Circus Baby. A fun fact about these animatronics is that William created them for the sole purpose of murdering children but having children and murdering children does not really mix. Let's talk about Elizabeth, she was an extremely stubborn child and all she wanted to do was play with Circus Baby. Of course, William didn’t want her to get killed so he forbid her from seeing any of the animatronics but Elizabeth being the stubborn child she was, went to go see Circus Baby anyways, so one day she sneaked away from her family. Circus baby has a feature where she can make ice cream so when Elizabeth ran up to her, she pulled out an ice cream from her chest cavity but before Elizabeth could grab it Baby’s chest opened up to expose a giant claw which grabbed Elizebeth probably breaking her spine and ripped Elizbeth into her stomach cavity, killing her slowly but her screams of pain were drowned out through the joy-filled screams of other children. William soon noticed Elizabeth was missing so in a panic he searched everywhere for her until he came across Circus Baby's room, knowing his daughter wanted to go see Circus Baby he knew exactly where she was. He knew she was dead and inside the animatronic. The restaurant was shut down on its first day open. The restaurant was shut down on its first day open.
Thank you for reading

I love how absolutely direct Fox is in all your fics. Jedi? Mine now. Problem? Murder problem (the one with Jon). Hurt? Medic. No obstacles, no sidetracking. I love this more serious take but I also loved the one shot where Fox found him in a dumpster. The ending to that one was spectacular: shoving Quinlan into a shower personally. Because mine now.
Fox is very much a person who sees in direct straight lines and just goes for it. Shortest way down a building? Jump off the side. Shortest way through the locked door? Break it down. Found a Jedi and need a Jedi? Said Jedi has now been adopted, even if doing so requires a light bit of hacking. He's the GAR's best problem-solver. Or at least the most expedient one.

How to Care For the Nickit Line
This line are scavengers and opportunistic hunters, with little care as to what they eat. Their digestive tracts have evolved through decades of living in close proximity to humans to allow them to eat almost anything they can find, which is why you'll find them near dumpsters, compost bins, and gardens. Because of their self-domestication, they are far more likely to give live birth than lay eggs, being more trusting of humans and therefore feeling more stable in their environment despite habitat loss.
Newborn Nickit mature the slowest out of the fox Pokémon, likely in part due to the domestication. They no longer need to grow up and hunt, as most of their adult diet consists of the food waste that humans create in abundance. Most Nickit stay within the family territory until they are at least two years old, though often longer, before going off to find their own way. Social groups consist of tight-knit families that are often competitive or territorial against other groups. This means that while they are social, they may have a hard time trusting new team members, and require extra time in introductions.
This line has strong digestive and immune systems, however high fat or sugar diets can lead to cardiovascular disease and canine diabetes. In captivity, they should be fed a high protein dark type food, and most snacks should be healthy foods such as fruits, berries, vegetables, lean meats, and nuts. Although not big hunters, Nickit and Theivul do like scavenging for their food, so toys that make them work for treats or games like scavenger hunts are good ways to combine food and mental enrichment. If you add a member of this line to your team, I do recommend getting locks or other Poké-proof methods for your trash can, pantry, and refrigerator.
Although they can swim, most Nickit and Theivul don't prefer to be wet. You shouldn't bathe them with soap more than once every three months, or rinse them with just water more than once a month, unless absolutely necessary, as it destroys the good oils in their skin that help them stay clean. Brush them every other day, and take care around the edges of their tails. If the fur becomes matted, it may have to be trimmed, which is usually fairly upsetting to the Pokémon. Pokémarts usually carry a special dry or foam "shampoo" that can be brushed into their coats in-between baths to help get dirt out if needed. This line also needs their nails trimmed at least once a month, unless they spend a lot of time walking on rocks or pavement.
Nickit and Theivul can be trained to clean up after themselves, things like sweeping and picking up trash, much like a Minccino. Games of hide-and-seek, racing, and dodging are good ways to train and hone their natural talents. The the most common problems I hear from trainers of this line is that they beg and steal food, and that adult Theivul mark with scent. Setting strong boundaries early on can help with this, however if you catch or adopt an older Pokémon it can be more difficult. Be vigilant during meal times,  and separate them while others are eating if you must. Praise them when they don't eat food you've left out, but do your best not to tempt them with it. Make sure all food is out of sight when unsupervised. For the marking or spraying, Poke-marts sell sprays that smell pleasant to humans but make Pokémon not want to mark. They should, however, be allowed to mark outside, as it is natural behavior that helps them feel safe in their territory.

December 24th, 2005
The knocking continues, louder than before. He can hear her calling his name outside, pleading, crying. She sounds just the same as always but that's not her, that's not her, that's not her.
If it were any other time of the year, someone would have complained about the noise by now, someone would have checked in on the weeping woman, but the apartment complex that they live in -that Jackie and Lucy live in but not her anymore- is populated almost entirely by college students. They're with their families right now because they have families to go back to, so it's just him and his kid and that.
"Mama? Mama home? Hi!"
That's not her, this shouldn't be happening, Lucy's just a toddler, it was hard enough explaining to her why her mom wasn't ever coming back, how can he explain this when he doesn't even understand this, why is this happening, what's outside his door with eyes like fire and a face so familiar?
"Santa's elves are delivering presents and, and that lady sounds like Mama but she's an elf's mommy, okay?" he says because it's the first thing that comes to mind and he doesn't know what else to tell her.
Lucy looks at him with a puzzled expression because that sounds like her mom, it sounds exactly like her mom, why couldn't he think of anything better, and she starts to toddle towards the door but he scoops her up.
"Let's play a game while the elfies work, okay? You're supposed to play games on Christmas. Them's the rules," he whispers. "We're gonna go in the closet and tell stories and, and it's gonna be big fun big times, Goose. Storytelling's a real good game."
He grins big and covers her chubby little cheeks with kisses to distract her from the thing that isn't her mother crying outside. He feels like his guts are shriveling up and he feels like a cornered animal and he feels like crying but he can't because he doesn't want his kid to be scared but he's scared and he still feels like a kid. He tiptoes out of the room as quiet as possible to his bedroom, locking the door behind him and wedging the playpen behind as if that'll really keep anything out. Lucy's too big for it now but they keep their extra clothes in it because they don't have a wardrobe and actually only Jackie keeps his clothes in it because Loretta's dead and she's not coming back and that's not her.
He sits in the closet cross-legged and holds his daughter close and tries to pretend that everything's okay but it's not. This must be what rabbits feel like when they're hiding in a burrow away from the foxes.
"Closets are good for stories because you can hear things better on account of the walls and things. And you have to tell stories on Christmas while you want for Santa because of the law. Do you want Daddy to tell you a really cool story? So cool."
Lucy hugs him and wipes her grubby little toddler face on his shirt and it's fine, it's just a shirt, he has her and he's not going to let any ghost get her.
"A really cool story. And I tell you a story!"
"Heck yeah, that's the spirit. You're already the best at this," Jackie says. "Okay, Goose, once upon a time, there was a girl named Serena and she was a crybaby and a klutz -that means being clumsy- but that doesn't mean she wasn't real nice and then one day, she met a little black cat. And then..."
They tell stories for hours until Lucy nods off at last. He doesn't sleep at all that night. He won't sleep right for a long time after this.
In the morning before Lucy wakes up and he has to pretend to be okay even though it's his first Christmas without his wife, he creeps outside to make sure whatever arrived last night is gone. There's a teddy bear left on his doorstep and a little keychain with his daughter's name on it. Jackie stares at this for a long time and then throws them away in the dumpster.
He's not taking any chances here.

Honestly? Urban fae! Dark side alleys as portals to the fae realm, or wall grafitty, or even floors in a Walmart or something like that! Fae taking forms of city dveling animals like crows, foxes, rats, pigeons and pets. Runing behind a beautiful cat? Your are lost in the realm now! Read that strange grafitty on the wall? Welp, you summoned the wild hunt. There NEEDS to be more urban fae lore! 👀
I meaaaaaannnn...yes. I don’t know who you think you’re talking to. 😂 YES YES YES! Give me ALLL the urban fae!
I’ve only just started digging into my fae realm, but you can count on seeing a lot more of them. I low key can’t freaking wait for Faebruary this year!
I mentioned this once (or ten) times before, but one of the fae featured in my Into the Light story plays a not insignificant part in one of the Girl’s Weekend story lines!
.
.
I’m going to beat you!” she called over her shoulder in a sing-song, racing down the staircase and up the short, pitch-black hallway. Silva crashed into the back door, anticipating the bite of the cool evening air on her bare legs and shoulders, but the door unexpectedly refused to yield.
The building seemed to shudder around her, the old wood of the Pixie groaning as she struggled to push the crashbar open, but the door held fast, thoroghly stuck. It took several hard shoves, Tate’s footsteps on the stairway echoing down the hallway, before the latch finally gave, spilling her with a stumble into the night.
The alley behind the bar was gone.
The stack of pallets, Tate’s gleaming black bike, the dumpster and cardboard compactor against the low concrete wall—all of it was gone. In its place was a forest, cool and green, lit with moonlight. She knew for a fact the moon was nearly full, had made plans to attend a lunar dinner with Dynah and Ris later that coming week, but the moon which shone down just then was a perfect crescent, silvery white and glowing above the thicket of trees which should not have been there. Its soft rays bathed the wooded clearing in ethereal light, reflecting in a shimmering pool just ahead.
Beside the pool stood a man, and Silva felt her heart climb up to her throat.
Tall and slender, he was delicate and regal with fine features and fair hair, more beautiful than anyone she had ever seen, with a palpable aura of danger pulsing around him. His long jaw and slender nose were distressingly familiar, but it wasn’t until his mouth split into a wide smile, revealing a row of long, jagged teeth that she was able to place why.
“My, aren’t you a lovely little thing.” His voice was silken, a slide of icy white satin, freezing her blood as she reeled. “Tell me, lovely girl...what is your name?”
The cloying scent of flowers perfumed the air, and she whimpered as the man advanced, taking half a step away from the shimmering pool towards her. Silva’s mind had gone numb, unable to form any sort of answer, but she was spared the trouble as Tate’s hand locked around her wrist, hard enough to leave a bruise, dragging her forcefully backwards.
She realized, as the door to the Pixie swung shut before her, that it was the roughest he’d ever been with her, an indication that the terror she felt flooding her system was not unfounded.
“Go upstairs, lock the door. Open the kitchen window for the cat.” His lilting voice was sharp, his dark brows pulled together in distress, but the flicker she saw in his honey-gold eyes was positively murderous. The thought of him leaving her alone nearly turned her inside out.
“But what about you—”
“Go, Silva!”
He’d never shouted at her before either, she thought, racing back up the black staircase at double the speed that she’d come down it. Her eyes were already flooding with tears when she felt the building shudder once more as he pushed his way out the door.
The shadow cat was already there, spitting and hissing, pacing on the ledge outside the window where Tate left food for it. The cat frightened her normally, the way it dissipated into mist in the dawn light left her unsettled, and Tate’s warnings against attempting to pet it hadn’t helped, but she was grateful for the beast now as it leapt over the sink, placing itself between her and the locked door.

An Ace and a Fox (Mori)
Tumblr media
> spy au
Not good, you think to yourself as you analyze your surroundings to determine your current location. The warehouse provides little visibility, lit only by the windows on the second floor. Most of the them have been boarded up, and debris litters the ground. You’ve never found yourself in this sort of situation before. While you’ve been deceived in the past, it was never to this level of extremity. At least you aren’t blindfolded, so one of your senses isn’t completely useless. Still, this isn’t good at all.
No matter how Hollywood the circumstances may seem, you know this won’t have a good ending if you don’t find a way out. Your memory resurfaces as you sit there, tied to an uncomfortable chair with thick rope pressing against your constricted limbs. Hours ago, you were trying to pawn off some items you had found while dumpster diving. You had been desperate for cash, needing it for food and to pay your bills. There was also the money and favors you owed a few acquaintances. The scary reality is beginning to dawn on you as you remember just how late you are on your payment. And this time it’s gotten serious.
In hindsight, you should’ve moved to another country when you had the chance. But would any of that matter? You were positive they’d find you and attempt to wring you dry of the money you so rightfully owed. Unfortunately, you’re at a loss, unable to even afford a night at a one-star hotel. How did they expect you to pay off favors when you were barely getting by? Well, to be frank, you did this to yourself. You knew very well not to get involved with shady dealers. You should’ve turned a blind eye when that suspiciously inviting hand was held out to you in your time of need, a silent testimony to the unfavorable bond you were slowly forming with a hungry snake.
Though this can hardly be called a bond. Waiting for your demise doesn’t seem fair, but this is what your life has become. Best to suck it up and pray that luck is on your side.
A pair of fancy footsteps ring out, startling you into focusing. Designer shoes, made of leather and sewn to grim perfection, make their way towards you. You don’t have to look up to know who it is. You’re well aware of the man looming over you, dressed in a fine tuxedo and an even finer wrath. Your time of ruminating over an escape is over. Your lucky stars have burnt out, falling to Earth just like your dashed hopes.
“I had faith in you this time, (Name),” he speaks, tone thick and heavy with disdain. “I really did. But we both know it’s not good to hold onto worthless expectations when the ones I’ve set in place aren’t even being met.”
“I’m sorry.”
“An apology won’t suffice. I’m afraid begging for salvation isn’t a suitable look on you. What a shame. I thought you knew better than to ignore the clock.”
“I’ll get your money in a week. That’s all I need. You don’t have to tie me up to get your point across! I know I’m wrong, so let me fix this.”
“You can’t mend what’s already broken.” Sighing, he scuffs his shoe against the concrete. “My men are surrounding us as we chat. Try anything and it’s adios. Well, it’s not like you can do anything in that position.”
“One week,” you repeat, hoping to garner his withering sympathy. “Please. Give me another chance. I won’t let you down.”
“But you’ve already let me down. Countless times, in fact. Why should I believe your words now? What impact will they have if they’re spoken with the same tongue that’s lied a dozen times? You either pay now or you don’t pay at all.”
“I can’t!” you shout, glaring daggers at the snide man. “You know I can’t!”
“If you can’t fork over the money, you deserve to pay with your own blood. Surely that’s a fair deal?” He crosses his arms, tutting in mock disapproval. “It’s not what I would’ve wanted, but I need my money. You’ve ran out of time, (Name).”
“I was in the middle of selling some stuff when your men kidnapped me! I’ll give you everything I got today, and if you let me go I’ll get the rest.”
“Who’s to say you won’t contact the authorities?”
“Have I ever done it in the past?” you snap, a bundle of nerves interlacing with your frantic emotions. “I haven’t, so have a little faith in me.”
“You’re like a chapel that’s run out of hacks to sell. Give it a rest.” Pivoting, your kidnapper doesn’t need to announce his leave. “This is where our business officially ends.”
“Wait, no! I'm making a promise. If you just give me—don’t leave! Time. I need more time. I’ll pay you double of what I owe.”
“Don’t make me repeat myself.” He motions to the dark shadows surrounding the outskirts of your peripheral, and two people—a man and a woman—step out, pointing the cold steel of their guns at the back of your head. “Get rid of this pest. They’ve run their mouth long enough.”
And then he’s walking away, ignoring your pleading cries.
This is it, you think, pupils blown wide and darting to and fro. This is the day I die. These people are going to kill me, and then they’ll hide my corpse. No one will ever find me. I’ll be an unsolved case until the end of time!
You prepare yourself for the end of your pitiful life cycle. With twin barrels aimed for your skull, you know there’s no possibility of survival. Two bullets will find their way into your brain, causing a grand commotion of signals as your body prepares for death. You won’t be able to wonder whether or not endorphins will flood your head because your death might be instant. Or you could simply bleed out, living in a few minutes of cursed consciousness that have been granted unluckily. In your next life, you hope to be smarter than you are now. If you weren’t so easily tricked and manipulated, you might’ve been able to save yourself from this demise months ago.
It’s too late for that now, though.
Squeezing your eyes shut, you listen for the inevitable gunshots. And yet they never come. A dull click makes your eyes snap open, risking a glance at the people behind you. They curse, fumbling with their pistols and muttering about how both firearms are devoid of ammunition. Your heart practically leaps at this turn of events. As if life has been breathed into you via a tube, you struggle in your bindings, trying as hard as you can to loosen them before they’re able to reload. Around you, a symphony of clicking permeates the stilted air, grumblings coming from all over the place. You listen as your kidnapper’s underlings complain about this odd occurrence.
Without warning, bullets rain from above, and that’s when you see him. Dressed in attire befitting a silver-tongued casanova, rich in his appearance and flair, he’s leaning over the railing, looking down at the surprised men and women.
“Looking for these? You can have them.” His tone is teasing, a simple smile plastered to his face. “As long as I can have that hostage. I assume you’re content with this trade.”
“Absolutely not!” a woman shouts, scrambling to load her weapon. She motions wildly. “Go protect the boss. Little Fox is here!”
Little Fox? What a weird name. It’s one of the many thoughts that crosses your mind, but you’re grateful nonetheless for the masked stranger who has come to your rescue. If it weren’t for him, you’d be dead by now, brain matter scattered on the cold ground. I’m so relieved...
“I had a feeling I’d find everyone here.” He drops down from the second floor with such ease that it makes you question his humanity. “Perhaps you should spend your time gambling rather than intimidating this poor soul out of their funds. I suppose money makes people do crazy things. This is most certainly crazy.”
“Enough talking,” you murmur. “Help me out?”
Catching your words, he turns to face you. “And you’re just going to trust me? That doesn’t seem too wise.”
“Well, it’s not like things can get any worse, and you’re the only sane person here. I’m willing to hedge my bets.”
Your phrasing makes him chuckle. Wordlessly, he reveals a stack of playing cards, shuffling through them before plucking one from the deck. And then he flicks it in your direction. It whizzes through the air, past the men and women who are now shooting at the both of you, and it effectively slices the ropes, which fall in your lap. The glowing card returns to the deck in no time. In awe, you look around at the bullets that seem to evade you, as if they were being controlled.
“What is this?” you whisper, at a loss for an explanation. “Little Fox, who are you?”
“Who are you, to be so gullible as to get tangled up with these people?” he retorts. “We need to hurry. This gimmick won’t last forever.”
“Huh? I’m confused—whoa!” Another playing card zips past your face, nearly cutting your cheek, as it makes way for a man taking aim. More cards, glowing a bright, mesmerizing blue, circle you and Little Fox, inflicting minor flesh wounds to the men and women who can’t seem to get a fatal hit on either of you. “How are you doing this?!”
“You’ll see,” he says and you almost believe him. “Oh. Were you thinking I’d show you the trick? Maybe I should. You look like you’re inclined to trust my every word.”
“Hey, I’m not an idiot!”
“Then you’ll watch where you step.” He grabs your arm, pulling you closer to the floor before a bullet can graze your skin. Meanwhile, the cards work hard to sever the ammunition in two, rendering it inferior. You’ve never witnessed such an interesting force before. Whatever it is, you’re glad it’s working. “We should leave before their boss comes back with reinforcements.”
“Right!” Your hand locks with his, startling the blue-haired fox for a moment, and you make a run for the nearest opening, the cards lighting the way. You do your best to block out the shouting and loud gunshots of the boss’s underlings, pushing ahead even though your every nerve is riddled with fear. “How are we not dead? This is insane!”
Humoring you, he asks, “What if we are dead?”
“Are we? We’re not, right?” You clear your throat as you continue to run, pulling him along. “Just to clarify, we’re not actually dead?”
Your words hang in the air for the entirety of your escape. It isn’t until you’re a safe distance away, hidden on the rooftop of another building and catching your breath, when he finally gives you an answer.
“Don’t worry. You’re alive. That crime syndicate won’t have anywhere to flee. As long as the others apprehend everyone.” There goes that gleaming deck again, practically floating between his skilled fingers as it’s shuffled for the umpteenth time. From your viewpoint, you can see the entire city as the sun begins its steady descent. The colors bathe the fox in a soothing light, making him seem less mysterious than he initially was. “More importantly, do you trust me enough to take my word as the truth?”
“Yeah. I mean, obviously! You saved me. If it weren’t for you and your party tricks, I wouldn’t have survived. So thank you for coming to my aid, card person.”
“Little Fox,” he corrects you. “Although I have another name.”
“Great. What is it? I’m (Name).”
“I’m not going to give out such personal information to someone I’ve only just met.”
“I guess it can’t be helped. You’re supposed to be undercover, right? Like a spy.”
“Maybe. Maybe not. It all depends on what you choose to believe.”
“Okay.” Awkwardly, you avoid his gaze. “So are you a magical spy? Is that what I witnessed back there?”
He merely shrugs and continues to shuffle. A card slips out, floating to the ground. You snatch it before it can make contact, turning it over in your hands to figure out how it was able to slice a bullet in half. You never knew a card could be so strong.
“Which card did you pull?”
“I didn’t pull it. It fell out. But if you must know, it’s the ace of hearts.”
“Are you sure?”
“Of course I’m sure.” You look at the card once more, and its symbols change, reflecting the joker. “What? How? You did that on purpose!”
“It’s a possibility.”
“I’m not in the mood for card tricks. I was almost killed today!”
“Whose fault is that?”
“Mine...” You lower your head in shame. “This is the worst.”
“it’s only the worst because you’ve made it so. If you didn’t know, the ace used to mean bad luck. Now everyone sees it as a decent card.” Once again, the symbols have reverted to said design.
“I’m totally not an ace.”
“An ace wouldn’t blindly trust anyone when someone does them a favor.”
“That was a few times! I’m not going to do it again.” You huff, leaning closer to him. Curiously, you grab his mask, lifting it up to see his face. Golden eyes peer back at you, pupils dilated in silent shock. “Thanks again for saving me.”
“My services aren’t free,” he mutters softly, taken back by your sudden closeness.
“Oh!” You pull away, rummaging through your pockets for any spare change. “Right. Sorry, let me see what I’ve got.”
The fox deadpans, thinking to himself, They can’t be this trustful. There’s no way...
“I’ve got three euro coins. Will this be enough? Probably not, but it’s all I have at the moment. If you give me a few days, I can definitely pay you. I’ll even treat you to a pastry. Is that okay? If it’s not, you can name your price. I won’t—”
You’re cut off by his melodious laughter. Flinching, you stare at him, wondering what in the world could be so funny. “I was kidding.”
“What?! And here I was, ready to pay you for your hard work. I can still give you money, though. If that’s what you want!”
“No, I don’t need your money. Thanks, though. I’d advise you to take better care of your finances so you won’t get tricked again.”
“I should do that.”
“And you shouldn’t put your faith in just anyone.”
“Of course. I’ll do better.”
“And you can’t expect this to happen whenever you’re in a bind. I’m not a babysitter.”
“I... I know that.” Heat rises to your face, burning intensely as night falls upon you and your newfound savior. “You don’t have to scold me. I’m an adult just like you.”
“I would’ve thought you were a child, what with how gullible you are.”
“Very funny. That smile isn’t fooling anyone.”
“Hm? What do you mean?”
“I give up...”
------
Mori stares at the ace in his hand, glinting even when held against the stark, rainy backdrop of the window. He thinks of the peculiar person he met the other day. They could’ve been on death’s door, and then he stepped in, ensuring that that wouldn’t happen. It was a relief the Department chose to send him on the mission, as he knew how to look before blindly diving in. He’s learned many things in his past, all of which have been useful lessons in his present life. There’s a somber twinge to his thoughts as he reflects upon the one whom he currently misses. He flips the ace over once in an effort to distract himself from his master.
(Name) seemed like a fun person, albeit far too trusting when it came to a matter of survival. Mori knows better than to trust those around him. He won’t make the same mistake twice, so he can only hope that you will be smart in how you play your cards. Though he may never cross paths with you again and though fate has a cruel way of conjoining those who are opposites, he’s still impressed at your unwavering ability to follow anyone who so much as lends you a hand. How can anyone be like that? It must be a nightmare.
And yet it’s anything but a bad dream. You’re as real as he is, a huge contrast to his morals. While he regrets the fact that you’ve already seen his face—all prospects of anonymity gone—he can’t help the feeling of intrigue. Maybe it’s just misplaced, considering you’re one of the more interesting victims he’s seen during hectic missions. Regardless, he hopes you’ll be wise for the future.
Once again, the ace glitters back at him. Perhaps if you learn to fight your own battles, you might just become the unsuspecting ace in a deck of scrambled misfortunes. If anything turns sour, which is something Mori is more than accustomed to, he knows that money can be trusted far more than the thin wills of most people. Casting all thoughts of the master aside, he puts the ace back into the deck and shuffles.
The joker peeks out, a wild card that can be anything it wants if put to the test. Little Fox smiles a familiar smile. You’re an interesting card. Maybe your paths will intersect one day, and maybe they won’t. It’s not like he knows, nor does he trust that sort of intuition, but it’s nice to think about.

hitchhiking.
miya twins x fem! reader
snow white au, aka me making fanfics about my own fanfic
in which reader leaves her home in the big apple, the busy city, the whatever you'd like to call it, and takes a trip to a forest, the literal opposite of home. in fact, the two places are so different that in order to get there, a plane ride is preferable over a road trip. after a week, it's time to go home, with souvenirs, of course. leaving with a heavier bag is to be expected, but the empty backpack meant for said souvenirs was a bit too heavy, suspiciously heavy
aka reader just wants to relax and ends up bringing two hitchhiker foxes home
the others aren't included in this one, sorry :( one certain bluebird will make a guest appearance but other than that the storyline is in no way connected to snow white (though i made a few ~allusions~ for the Drama) anyway, i hope you love these annoying foxes as much as i do <3
also this is borderline abo but in my defense i wanted to make them seem more animal-like since they're technically wild animals
warning for cussing because life is hard and osamu hates atsumu

Tumblr media
You grew up in the suburbs, always just a half hour away from the big, bustling city, where everything is fast paced with streams of people working and struggling to make their dreams come true. So it was no surprise that when you were old enough to move out, you immediately made a home in a rundown, shitty apartment, taking the typical "small apartment, big dreams" approach to life. And it was true, you did have a dream, a big dream. While you could have been anything else: a doctor, a lawyer, a profession that would make your parents happy and keep you reliably comfortable your whole life, you could never picture forcing yourself to work through something that made you unhappy, and so you decided to take the writer path.
It was as if you were meant to be part of the busy metropolis, meant to be the same as everyone else in the crowd: broke, fresh out of uni, and barely paying the rent for a small, crappy apartment. You soon learned that dreaming to reach your dream job, a job where working hours weren't physically and mentally draining but were rather hours of doing what you loved, would only become more than just a dream at the price of your blood, sweat, and tears, just like it did for everyone else.
But after working your ass off and putting two books on store shelves, you were able to end your contract with the sketchy landlord in the shady part of town and move into a nicer, actually livable apartment in a better building with a better landlord in a better neighborhood.
Now when you stepped out of your complex, you were greeted with the refreshing sight of people passing by, the sky a clear blue, with a soft breeze you could feel underneath your windbreaker as it ruffled your hair and rustled your sleeves, the bright red, blue, and yellow fabric almost as bright as the sun overhead. Birds chirped in nearby trees, and if you walked around and looked for a while, you could find a few cats hanging around the sidewalk or hiding behind dumpsters.
It was all you could have ever asked for and more.
But sometimes, city life can be a distraction, and sometimes, you really, really need a change of pace and scenery.
Which brought you to the present, sitting with your legs underneath you on your soft couch, squishing the plush grey throw pillows and balancing your laptop on your thighs. The money you got from your newest releases was in no means enough to call you rich, but it was comfortable enough that costs weren't one of your concerns as you typed a quick Google search. An airline website was open on your screen, and you were browsing through the available tickets, looking for one that would take you to a nice getaway, a small break from the nonstop chaos of your city, which had finally begun to wear you out from the endless stress and sleepless nights.
"Seven day long camp resort in one of the country's most beautiful and idyllic forests," said the advertisement that popped up on the side of your browser. Clicking on it, it took you to a pretty convincing website about Inari Lodge, a tourist attraction in the middle of a forest you had never heard of before. Lists upon lists of hiking trails, forest tours, and crafted souvenir shops caught your eye, and before you knew it you were booking a week's stay in one of their cabins. Sealing the deal and buying your ticket, you sat back and sighed, ready for a vacation.
Two weeks later, it was a few hours before your flight, so obviously you had already packed. Not. You called a friend over to help and keep you company while you packed, and ten minutes later, a familiar brunet walked through the door, ruffling his chocolate brown locks.
"It's nice to see you, Tooru," you greeted, padding closer to him as he opened his arms for a hug. "Your hugs are the best, as always," you smiled up at him, before taking a step back.
"You would have seen me either way; I was just on my way to bother you," he said. "You're taking a trip without me? How will I survive without you?"
"Don't be dramatic, Ruru," you chided, pulling your suitcase onto your bed. "I know for a fact that the week I'm gone is the same week the team you're coaching has tournaments."
"Ugh, don't remind me. They're good kids, but they suck ass," Tooru groaned, flopping next to your suitcase. "Do you have everything you need?"
"You tell me. Check things off," you answered while looking through your closet.
"Oooh, do I get to see your clothes?" Tooru asked suggestively, wiggling his eyebrows.
You rolled your eyes at him. "My shirts and pants, yeah. Everything under that has been packed into this," you said, holding up a medium sized makeup pouch.
"Bummer. Oh well, there's always next time."
   "Ruru, stop being dirty."
He grumbled something underneath his breath, low enough that you missed it. "Well, how long is the stay?"
   "A week."
"So you need seven sets of clothes?"
"Yeah, assuming I don't pee my pants," you smiled over your shoulder, watching as Oikawa held back a laugh with his hand, a wide smile spread across his face.
"Haha, you got the whole squad laughing. How cold is it there?"
"It's pretty cold, apparently. I'm not surprised, it's farther north than where we live, and it gets pretty chilly here sometimes," you answered, pulling a few sweaters out of your closet, pairing it with random pairs of jeans you grabbed, and passed them to Tooru, who folded and put them in your suitcase.
"Aww, aren't I such husband material? Wait here wifey, I'm gonna get your stuff from the bath," Oikawa winked, throwing up a peace sign at you before he turned and disappeared behind the white door.
"Can you get my toothbrush stuff too? Thank you~," you called after him in a sweet singsong voice.
You glanced at your bookbag, still on your couch, just where you left it. You looked at the scarf in your hands, a large white scarf too bulky to wear, and decided to throw it in there, along with your laptop and charger. You put an extra pair of comfortable boots in a reusable bag, neatly settling it between your clothes. Tooru handed you another bag, and a peek inside showed you your bath and bathroom essentials. You flashed a grateful smile at him, before turning and grabbing the last few items to throw in your bookbag-turned-carry-on, which included your notebook full of your messy brainstorming, a pack of pens, and your phone charger. Zipping your suitcase closed, you pulled up the handle and hung your bag around it.
"Okay, I'm ready. I've got everything, except you," you winked mischievously at Tooru.
"You're flirting! It's not fair," he complained, hand grabbing at his heart, the other draped dramatically over his forehead.
"Guilty as charged," you winked, throwing up a finger heart. "Drive me to the airport?"
   "Of course, babe."
You had already checked in your suitcase, got your ticket safely in your hand, and all that was left for you to do was wait an hour or so until boarding. You turned to Tooru, giving him one last hug. "I'm gonna miss you and the others, Ruru," you whispered softly, even though you were only leaving for a week.
Tooru hugged you back, holding you tightly against his chest. He let you go, before taking a step back and pulling his hoodie over his head, his shirt riding up a bit, showing some skin for a split second. "Here, wear this," he said, handing it over to you.
You brightened, smiling like a thousand suns before slipping it on. It was huge on you, and you were almost drowning in the soft, teal blue fabric. He gave you a fond look, his eyes shining in such pure, unadulterated love that it took your breath away for a moment.
   "Thank you, Tooru."
"Keep it warm for me, okay?"
"I know, I know, I promise you'll see it when I come back."
He gave you one last hug, short and sweet, before walking away, turning to look back at you one last time. You stood there until the doors slid closed behind his back, a soft smile on your face, before you turned away and walked to your terminal, hoping to kill time either shopping, eating, or sleeping.
You could finally lean back and relax once you were secured in your seat, miles in the air. Boarding and finding your aisle wasn't much of a hassle, thank the gods, and the glass of the plane window was refreshingly cool against the tip of your nose as you peered down at the clouds passing by. You held your bookbag against your chest, looking inside at the empty space in between the few items you did pack into it. Your laptop was safely zipped up in its designated pouch, along with its charger and your notebook, and the pack of pens that had somehow opened inside the pocket, which you had found out earlier as you tried to fish one out but instead pulled the empty cardboard packaging. Your phone charger was the only thing laying on the scarf you threw in there, a makeshift nest for nothing. Well, nothing yet.
You were excited to spend a week in a completely different environment, surrounded by lush forestry and the coos and calls of whatever animals lived there, a place where you're never truly alone, but in a good way. It was a stark contrast from the car fumes in the city air, with the only plant life in a park square and the only sounds are the constant chatter and hum of people and cars finding their destinations. There never once was an hour of silence, and while you had been able to enjoy it as your background noise while writing, it wasn't long until you finally got tired of it. You could've sworn that the city had gotten louder on purpose just to exhaust and stress you out every night, so you were more than ready to finally be able to clear your head and maybe even flesh out an idea or two.
The sound of the intercoms crackling to life made you jolt, holding a hand to the cold imprint on your cheek left from sleeping against the window. The pilot announced that the plane was descending, and you gathered your bag and Tooru's hoodie, bundling them both in your arms.
Truth be told, you were glad to step off the plane. You felt the chill of the outside while walking off the plane through the passenger boarding bridge and stood for a second to put the hoodie back on, humming slightly at Tooru's smell still on the cloth, a nice, sweet but not too sweet scent that made you smile to yourself.
You got lost in thought, so your body was on autopilot when you went to pick up your luggage and almost picked up the wrong suitcase, until the actual owner picked it up first, eyeing you weirdly. With guilty, heated cheeks, you grabbed your suitcase, checked it once, then twice, then three times, and finally hopped into an Uber as fast as you could, hoping that you wouldn't be starting your first day on vacation dying of embarrassment.
You hurriedly thanked the driver for dropping you off, then made your way into a wooden building, the wood a warm oak with a little golden bell that chimed as you walked in. A woman behind the desk smiled at you, and you sighed, happy to have nothing to worry about, now that you were finally there.
"Hello, welcome to Inari Lodge! Is there something I can help you with?"
"Yes, please," you said, pulling your luggage close to you. "I reserved a cabin, and I need the keys, right?"
"Of course," she smiled at you, and for a quick second, you thought that she resembled a cat, with black hair and upturned eyes.
"Um, I'm sorry if I'm being intrusive, but are you a mom?"
"Haha, don't worry, you're fine! Yes I am, my name is Kozume Sakura, and I have a son," she answered kindly, and you couldn't help but feel relieved to finally have a good thing to improve your currently-going-badly day.
"Ah, it's just that you seemed familiar to someone I've seen around campus."
"Ah, that would most likely be my son," she said, a sweet smile spreading across her face. "Anyway, here are your keys, and I've written the directions to your cabin right here. Don't hesitate to come and ask me for anything, okay?"
"Yeah, okay," you nodded gratefully, making sure to wave goodbye as you walked out the doors, looking at the map in your hands.
"I can not believe how hard it was to find you," you said to the cabin as you flopped on the bed, tired of having such a conflicting day. You sat up quickly, slapping your cheeks, "No, I won't let a few fuck ups ruin everything for me."
Grabbing your phone, you slipped it into your hoodie pocket as you walked out the door, set on exploring the area.
You decided not to take an official trail, preferring to save them for later, which brought you to an ordinary worn dirt path as you walked aimlessly, taking rights and lefts as you pleased.
A rustling in the bushes lining the trail caught your attention. Just as you walked closer to separate the branches and peek through, a fox fell out of the leaves, as if something had pushed it out. The fox seemed to scowl at whatever had shoved it, before it turned its attention to you.
Before you could think better, you crouched on the ground as you cooed, resting your cheek in your palm. "Hello, cutie fox, how are you?"
The fox stared at you, which was good, because if it started speaking you would've booked it right then and there, but also bad, because you didn't know if it was irritated by your presence. It seemed to look warily at you, not ready to attack, but not fully trusting either.
"Come here, I want to pet you," you crooned, holding out the end of your sentence as you leaned forward against your better judgement, shifting your legs from against your chest to underneath you. Before it could make a decision, however, another fox jumped out of the bushes and straight into your arms, settling happily in your lap. Caught by surprise, you stared, while the first fox yipped at it, jumping forward and pushing it out of your lap. You watched as they tumbled to the ground, rolling as they fought and wrestled.
"Um, okay… I think I'll just go now, bye!" You quipped before turning around and walking steadily back to where you came from, not wanting to get caught up in a wild animal fight.
"Look at what ya did 'Tsumu, why do ya always mess everything up?"
"Me? Me?! You were the one that jumped me!"
"'Cause I didn't recall inviting you to our conversation, dumbass!"
"Yer a fuckin' fox, you can't talk! You're just jealous!"
"So are you! We're twins, shithead!"
And they kept arguing, voices carrying throughout the forest, even as they walked along the path the pretty, perfect, kind, and amazing love of their li— , ahem, the completely normal girl from earlier took, leading to the all too familiar lodge situated at the edge of their forest.
"That was close," you whispered to yourself as you leaned against the door, as if the foxes would be strong enough to bust it open. They hadn't even followed you, as you didn't hear them, and when you glanced behind you, nobody was there.
"Anyway, I guess I should plan out what I'm gonna do here, I don't want this trip to be a waste," you said, opening your suitcase and putting your clothes in the drawers, setting your bathroom essentials on top of it. You grabbed your bookbag from where you had thrown it on the bed and set it on a glass table. You pulled out your notebook and flipped to a blank page, cringing as you passed by page after page of chicken scratch.
"The only reason I can read my own handwriting is because I'm there when it's written," you muttered to yourself as you rummaged for a pen, finding one out of the set of five. You wrote down the days of the week you'd be staying there, with your first official day starting tomorrow, on Tuesday. Your flight back was scheduled for a week later, on Monday. You hummed happily, glad that your timetable worked out so neatly as you wrote down the days of the week, leaving enough space for a bullet list underneath.
On your last day at the lodge, you made sure to make a note to leave at noon at the latest, since your flight was at six in the afternoon, and you wanted to be extra, extra, extra sure that you would not miss it. Ideally, you would be all packed up Sunday night, but knowing you and your procrastinating self, you wrote it down for the day before, even though you knew you would probably be packing the day of, just as you did before.
You made sure to set Saturday as souvenir hunting day, hoping to bring back something for Tooru, a thank you for the help and hoodie.
The foxes you met earlier crossed your mind, but the grumbling of your stomach reminded you to get some dinner and wrap up your day. Holding the map out in front of you, you memorized the directions to a cafe not too far from your cabin, and went on your way.
"Hello, can I get the sandwich of the day with a cinnamon hot chocolate and a slice of pumpkin bread?"
   "Of course! Here's your total."
The worker you were pleasantly talking to gave you a small smile before glancing to the side, as if something caught his eye. He pulled a face at whatever he was looking at, and you followed his annoyed gaze to the two foxes you met earlier, playing next to one of the bean bag chairs next to the door, near the window wall of the cafe.
You laughed awkwardly, "Haha, um, is there something wrong?"
He seemed to snap out of giving them the stink eye, profusely apologizing to you as he provided an explanation, "No, no, it's fine, it's just that those two foxes are some of the forest animals that walk around the lodge, except they're the only ones that are more annoying than cute. Some cats and birds and such come by and usually will just sit next to the register, you know, like nice and normal animals, but these foxes seem hellbent on walking around and biting at people's ankles and fighting and making huge messes that they can't clean up because they're damn foxes."
You laughed again, though this time it was genuine. "You seem to have very strong feelings about their mischief," you joked, watching as he relaxed.
"Yeah, but at the end of the day, they're still just foxes, and we make sure all the animals of the forest are safe and sound."
And if the foxes decided to cause more trouble than usual, that was their business, their decision, and not in any way related to the slight dislike of the barista, which was in turn totally not because you got along well with him.
After paying, you made your way to a table in the corner of the windows where the glass met the wall, looking absentmindedly at the visitors and workers walking past, occasionally with a rabbit or bird or other critter.
"I have your hot chocolate and sandwich, and your bread will be in just a moment. Unfortunately, I also brought these two," the barista you were talking to said as he set your food and drink on the table, before glancing at the floor. Just as you were about to lean over and see, two foxes jumped up on the seat across from you, settling themselves on the table, curled up like cats.
You waved him off with a grin, "Oh it's fine, I have a feeling they'll behave."
You took a sip out of your hot chocolate, savoring the warmth it gave you after being in the outside chill. You picked up your sandwich and took a bite, before speaking, "Are you done fighting?"
Both foxes stared at you, and if they were people, you were sure their mouths would be hanging open, dumbfounded and mildly offended as you nonchalantly took another bite, not waiting for them to respond or react.
You reached a hand out while they were frozen and pet the head of the fox nearest to you. It lowered its head slightly, shyly accepting your affection.
"Aww, you're so cute. What's your name?"
Of course, it couldn't speak, but it batted your hand with its left paw. "So cute," you crooned, "Come here?"
Just like before, when the fox was about to walk towards you, the other one jumped at you, and you hurried to wrap your arms around it. You stared at it in your arms, tummy up like a baby.
You rubbed its stomach. "What about you? What's your name?"
He happily raised his right paw, and you held it gently before putting him back on the table, which was good, because the left paw fox was a second away from pouncing on it again. The fox you set down scrambled onto the tabletop, and watched with what you would call betrayed eyes as you carried the other fox into your lap, petting its head lightly.
"It's not your turn," you quipped, focusing your attention on the fox in your lap. "You're so cute, so cute, please be my baby~."
The fox you dumped on the table yipped indignantly at you, and you decided to mess with him. "Oh, you're still here? Well, I guess you're okay…" you trailed off, struggling to keep a poker face as he looked at you with puppy eyes, while the other fox barked out high pitched laughs, which made him get up and get ready to jump.
You pet him between his ears. "I'm just joking. Jeez, you're always at each other's necks," you complained, sitting back and continuing to eat your sandwich.
As if to prove you wrong, the fox in your lap jumped on the table and curled up with the other fox, both of them leaning against each other like close brothers. Coincidentally, the waiter walked by with your pumpkin bread, watching in amazement.
"How did you do that?" he asked, and you just shrugged in response, your attention mostly on your sandwich.
When you finished it, you took another sip of your drink before you tore off two pieces of your bread. You offered it to them as a reward, for finally behaving themselves. They yipped happily in response, content with spending the rest of your time together eating in comfortable silence.
You pulled yourself out of bed, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes. Embarrassingly, jet lag made you sleep in on Tuesday, your first official day at the lodge, and by the time you woke up, you had nothing to do but eat and jot down some story ideas, none of which stuck to you.
So you made sure to wake up nice and early the next day, dead set on going on at least one trail. You showered and changed into a new pair of jeans and a knit grey sweater. You stood for a moment, debating if you should wear a jacket or Tooru's hoodie over it, but decided against it and deemed the sweater good enough.
Thankfully, it was one of the warmer, sunnier days. You looked down at your map, making your way towards the open lodge outlet, taking note of the small clusters of people milling about, a familiar sight, albeit on a smaller, calmer scale. You looked up at the wooden signs pointing towards various shops, restaurants, and forest attractions. You finally found the one you were looking for, pointing to your right with the word "birdwatch" carved across. When you followed its directions, you came to a small gift shop at the start of a wide, dirt path, imprints of boots and footsteps all over the light brown ground. Walking inside, a small wind chime announced your arrival, twinkling like bird chirps, and the person behind the counter looked up.
"Oh, it's you!" she exclaimed, recognizing your face.
"Hello again! I thought you worked at the reception desk?"
"I'm covering for someone's shift right now, they had finals to take. Are you here for a birdwatch?"
"Spot on," you answered, bringing a hand up to rub the back of your head with a meek smile. Kozume winked at you, before taking out two binoculars from under the desk.
   "Well then, let's go!"
"You know, some of these birds remind me of the ones that live near my apartment building," you mentioned, picturing the large cherry blossom tree that stretched its branches past your window. "The birds here are so much more interesting though," you lamented. "The city just has crows and small birds, but here there's robins and warblers and so many more species, with great diversity. It's like the bird version of the people back home."
"I can imagine not many birds want to live near so many humans, but these have all of the forest to themselves. Look, the bird over there, with the blue mohawk, is called an Asian Paradise Flycatcher, and…" she trailed off, continuing your tour of one of the forest trails, before whipping an arm in front of you, exclaiming, "Watch your step!"
You froze with your foot still in the air, watching as the fox you narrowly missed stepping on darted in front of you.
"I'm sorry, he's not really supposed to be here, he has his own trail," Kozume frantically apologized while glaring at the fox, before sighing in relief when you responded with a small laugh.
"It's fine, I've met him before," you reassured while looking around, searching for a certain somebody. "And I learned that he never walks alone…"
To prove your point, the other fox you were well acquainted with joined his brother, running around in front of you.
"Well, the next part of our trail is basically a circle back, so hopefully they run off to where they belong, I don't want you to get in trouble for messing with the animals because of them," Kozume said as you made a left, walking back to the start of the trail.
When you opened the door to the gift shop, two furry animals zipped past your feet, and you already knew who they were before you even saw them.
"Kozume, is it normal for these guys to always hang around here?" you asked, picking up both foxes in your arms, resting them comfortably in your arms.
Kozume turned around to look at you, her hands still in midair, putting away your binoculars. "Actually, no, they do come by once or twice but they never hang around, and we just assumed they don't like people very much since they really only hang out with each other. They've never let anyone pet them…" she stopped mid-sentence as she watched you pet their heads and stomachs with no resistance from the two.
You glanced up. "Huh? Oh, I don't really have a lot of experience with animals, but they're just so cute," you said, before snapping your head up, eyes wide in realization. "Hey, do you have some ribbon or something?"
"Yes! We use them to identify specific birds we keep tabs on, especially ones we just recently nursed back to health," she explained, pulling out a box of ribbons, offering it to you. You set the foxes on the counter, watching Kozume hesitantly reach a hand out to them from the corner of your eye. They protested, but allowed her to pet them when you eyed them. Looking into the box, you fished out two ribbons, one a golden yellow, and the other a nice warm grey.
"May I?" you asked, directing the question to Kozume. The foxes, however, decided you were talking to them and excitedly sat in front of you, pulling each ribbon towards them with their paw.
"I think they said yes," Kozume chuckled, and you took that as your permission to put ribbons on their, er, the forest's foxes. You cooed at them, asking which one would go first. The fox with the yellow ribbon in his mouth nudged your hand with his face, making you smile.
"Which are you, left or right?"
The fox raised its right paw and rubbed his face as your answer, and you kept that in mind while you tied the ribbon around his neck, finishing it off with a nice bow. You did the same to the other fox, who voluntarily shook your hand with his left paw, just in case you forgot. By the time you were done, both foxes were playing on the counter, ribboned bows securely on their necks.
"What if you started working here? The way you can interact with the animals so easily is honestly amazing," Kozume asked, springing the question on you out of the blue.
You jumped, before you began rubbing the back of your head sheepishly, "Ah, I would love to, honestly, but I work as an author, and it's best if I stay relatively close to my publishing company."
Kozume smiled understandingly, "Yeah, I figured. Well, just know that me and the foxes will be missing you hundreds of miles away." Then she brightened, pulling out her phone, "Put your number in, so we can stay in touch, and so I can keep an eye on my son," she winked cheekily as you accepted her offer.
While the two of you were occupied, focused on your conversation, the two foxes stopped playing, standing abruptly and whipping their faces towards you.
Loud crying made you turn away from Kozume and look for the source of the high-pitched whining, popping the question "who's making those crying puppy sounds?" into the air.
Your eyes landed on the foxes, both of which were crying and walking towards you, tugging at your sleeve and rubbing their heads against your arms. Your heart melted, and you turned to Kozume, pity written across your face.
"When I said they would miss you, I didn't think it would be this much…"
"No, you can't come in here! I'll be kicked out if I let you guys in!"
The foxes, still with the ribbons tied perfectly and safely around their necks, were looping around your legs, blocking your entrance to the cabin you've rented. They both looked up at you and cried, their whines catching the attention of some workers and visitors nearby.
"Okay, fine! If I get in trouble, it's your fault," you relented, turning the knob and carefully opening the door, watching as they slipped in, leaving you to shut the smooth oak door quietly behind you as you flipped on the light switch.
The second you let electric light flood the cabin, you realized the foxes were nowhere to be seen. Only mildly worried, since you knew they were at least somewhere inside, you shrugged it off and walked to the dresser, pulling out Tooru's hoodie and some sweatpants, before making your way to the bathroom.
Out of nowhere, a fox came zooming at your feet, eager to come inside with you. This time, you were firm as you said, "I'm going to shower, so you can back off and play around while I'm in the bathroom, alone, with no perverts!"
The grey fox started laughing at the peeping fox, which you realized was the yellow ribboned one. As expected, he launched at his brother, and you took the distraction as an opportunity to step inside the bathroom and shut the door behind you, locking it just to make sure.
Freshly showered, with your comfortable, warm clothes on, you shuffled out of the bathroom, already expecting the foxes right there, having to step over them to make your way to the bed. They jumped up with you, but once the grey fox came close enough to sniff your hoodie, it barked indignantly, biting at the hoodie.
"Hey! This isn't mine, it's Tooru's, so I can't let you destroy it!" you chided, pulling your sleeve away. Apparently you had said the wrong thing, because both foxes started pulling your sleeves together, before you yanked your arms out of their grips.
"Tooru doesn't even smell bad, he smells nice," you said, pulling the hoodie up to smell the familiar scent, the aromas of chocolates and sweets in fresh air, reminding you of the skies back at the city: the smells of bakeries and cafes wafting through the air and birds chirping above you every time you walked down a street. Still, when the foxes continued growling, you reluctantly tugged the sweater off and stayed in just a white t-shirt, an old, stretched out shirt with the print on the front long since faded and gone.
When you plopped back on the bed, the foxes crowded towards you, close enough that if you didn't know better, you'd think that they were trying to get you to forget about Tooru and focus on them. Subconsciously taking a breath, you caught the smell of a forest clearing or meadow, a smell of fresh grass and fresh air and petrichor, which you would expect from foxes that were supposed to stay and play in the forest, but you also noticed slight variations in the scent, obviously coming from either fox.
Yellow ribbon had a scent like honey, with a strong undertone of a woodsy musk, which made you picture drinking tea sweetened with the golden syrup right outside your cabin.
Grey ribbon had a strong campfire scent, the smell of crackling wood and fire and melting chocolate. A scene under a clear night sky surrounding a fire with the aroma of cinnamon in the air came to mind, and you let yourself get lost in thought, your senses being occupied with new scents, sights, and imagery.
If the foxes were human, their faces would surely have the widest, shit-eating grins, smug and satisfied at having you distracted from the minor annoyance from earlier and focused on them, just as they wanted.
You snapped out of it. "You little—, you just want me to give you attention and affection and baby you," you accused, pushing them away from your face. They didn't protest or bark at you, and you figured it was because they knew they were guilty as charged. "Jeez, you're acting like Tooru is a threat or something…"
You heard two big sighs, and blinked in surprise at the foxes as they settled onto the plush white covers. Maybe it was because they were so human-like and made you honestly contemplate whether they could understand you or not, or maybe it was because the only animal you've heard sigh is your mom's dog back at your family home, but whatever it was, it made you think, for a split second, that the foxes were humans turned animals, kind of like the frog prince. But that was stupid, so you shook your head, got up and turned off the lights, opening the curtains but keeping the blinds closed, and settled back into bed as slats of moonlight came from the spaces between the blinds.
The foxes climbed into your arms, and you held them close to you as you fell asleep, telling yourself it was only because you had crossed the line earlier, even though deep down you knew that wasn't the real reason.
You pulled the two fluffy sources of heat closer to you, unwilling to open your eyes and start the day. It's only when the heaters started licking your face that you panicked and freaked out.
High pitched yips made the events of yesterday evening rush back to you, and you rubbed the sleep out of your eyes tiredly, surprised that you had a good night's sleep with two, technically, wild animals.
You scooped the drowsy foxes into your arms before making your way to the big wooden door and pushing it open, setting the foxes on the ground.
"You weren't even supposed to be in there, you know," you said as the foxes tried to get back in, pawing at the door. You shivered, the chill in the air numbing your exposed skin and wrapping around your bare arms, and you hurriedly shooed them away before retreating back inside the warmth of the cabin.
Safely bundled in a sweater from your university under a hoodie, one of your own this time, you joined a group going for the fox trail, wondering if you'd see yours.
Pointedly ignoring how you immediately thought of them as "your" foxes, you listened to the tour guide, an employee you hadn't met yet, talk about how the foxes don't always show on the trail.
"That's a shame, let's just hope for the best," other visitors and families whispered around you, with some of them saying they didn't see that many foxes yesterday, only a few odd ones out here and there. Knowing where they actually were the day before, you stifled a laugh, even as your ears turned red with guilt and embarrassment, before following at the back of the group as they started the trail.
Luckily, you saw a few grey and brown foxes, who seemed like actual normal foxes and not borderline sentient, but around the middle of the trail it was basically deserted.
"Let me try to call them," the guide offered, bringing his hands up to cup his mouth and whistle loudly.
Silence answered, with no signs of anything coming to visit.
The tour guide encouraged the group to call out and whistle, and various whistles and voices rose from the group.
Not wanting to draw attention to yourself, you crouched low, at eye-level with the bushes, and softly called out for two specific foxes, your hello muffled by the rest of the crowd.
You gave up, feeling stupid and unconvinced that your almost-whisper would carry over the noise of the crowd, and sat on the ground, legs folded under you, deciding to wait until the group either got tired or another fox actually showed up for them. Just then, the bushes in front of you started to rustle, and your lovely grey ribboned fox jumped out, immediately crawling into your lap to nuzzle your face.
The people closest to you turned at the noise and noticed you cuddling with him on the ground, and word started spreading throughout the group that someone had successfully lured out a fox.
"Look! There's one running this way!" the ones at the front of the group called, and you looked just in time to see your other fox running towards you, straight past the tour guide and the rest of the group. You smiled fondly at them, before lowering your face to let both of them rub their cheeks against yours.
"Ma'am, could you please not touch the animals?" the tour guide told you timidly, obviously not wanting to reprimand you for being able to actually call out foxes on the designated fox trail, but you understood it was mostly so others didn't start getting any ideas, thinking they had permission.
You nodded sheepishly, lightly putting them on the floor before standing up, wiping the dust off your knees. However, the whole group watched as the foxes looped around your feet, even going so far as to jump up and paw at your thighs.
"Do you work here? You're so good with animals!" a mom in the crowd asked, and you looked at the actual worker, unsure of what to say. He stared back at you with just as much confusion, before shrugging, leaving you to make up a convincing story on the spot.
"Actually, these foxes used to live near me, but I live in a city, so I brought them here so they'd be safer than on the streets," you fibbed, though you gave yourself a pat on the back for how reliable the story was. If anyone really did have to ask, yes, you did live in a city, and yes, you would one hundred percent bring foxes and other animals to a forest or wildlife lodge. Did that really happen? No, but could it? The answer was yes, and you sighed in relief when the mom turned, accepting your answer. You giggled when the tour guide released a breath he didn't even know he was holding, and he continued the trail, sending a discreet wink your way.
You didn't notice the way your foxes growled at that, and if someone had asked you why you had two foxes right at your heels, walking next to you protectively like a pair of guard dogs, you'd blink in confusion, oblivious to the reality of their words.
Before you knew it, it was Saturday, souvenir shopping day. You slung on your bookbag, ready to put some weight in it.
At the lodge's shopping centre, you saw gift shops, clothing shops, and random trinket shops alike. In the gift shop, you found crystal figurines of animals in and around the lodge, and a cute little bird the color of a clear sky caught your eye. For some reason, it reminded you of Tooru, and you couldn't stop yourself from buying it and watching as the cashier wrapped it in paper before setting it in a white velvet box, cushioned and safe. Huh, crystal bird, blue, bluebird. You may have found another nickname for Ruru. You absentmindedly slipped it into your bag, happy to have found what you were looking for so fast and a new nickname.
But stores weren't anything if not eye-catching, and the shelf of plush animals distracted you. The fox plushies, specifically, were so similar to actual foxes that they'd be perfect replacement cuddle buddies for when you went back home to your big city.
But then you felt incredibly embarrassed and childish for that, so you shook your head as you walked out of the shop, ignoring the way that thought stuck in your head like a moth to a lamp.
Still, you found yourself walking through store after store after store. Once you finally snapped out of it, you had just stepped out of the birdwatching souvenir store, all too aware of the set of postcards themed after the various birds you could spot on the trail. You told yourself that the blue mohawk bird on the front was a great reminder of both the trail and Kozume, and made a mental note to get her to write something before you left, lessening your guilt over having bought something almost useless.
By the time you came back to the cabin, your wallet felt significantly lighter while your bookbag was very obviously heavier. You had stuffed the velvet box, postcard deck, two maroon sweaters with "Inari Lodge" printed across the front with the forest's logo, and a large and heavy book about spirits and legendary deities that guard and dwell in the forest. According to the summary on the back, the book was basically a collection of the myths and legends surrounding the forest, including one about people that could transform from animal to person and back again. The cover of the book immediately made you think "grimoire", and you were set on buying it, if not for the stories, then for the aesthetic.
You wondered briefly if it was real as you unclasped the leather string binding the book shut and flipped through yellowed pages with torn edges, looking at all the pictures that looked believable hand drawn and writing in a language you could only understand when you squinted your eyes.
You had wrapped everything in the two sweaters, and then in the white scarf, making sure they were safe and at no risk of being crushed or damaged, especially the crystalline figure.
"Are ya sure she isn't coming back?"
"Yes, 'Tsumu, last I checked she was dropping off her keys to Kozume."
   "But she'll be back soon?"
"Yeah no shit, genius, that's why you either get in here with me or stay behind."
"Hey, I'm just makin' sure you're prepared for this y'know, in case you start crying for momma or somethin'."
   "Shut yer face and die."
   "What do we do now?"
"I don't wanna pay for a ticket, 'Samu."
"Me neither, but we can't hitch a ride in her carry-on anymore, it's going through TSA."
They both leaned against the wall, realizing that they were both stupid and their plan was stupid squared.
Atsumu looked up, the ribbon around his neck moving with him, and he watched you walk into the bathroom, leaving your luggage outside the door. He nudged Osamu, pointing at the bathroom door.
   "Nice," he praised.
And if people saw two foxes crawling into a bookbag? It's the airport at three in the alternate airport timeline, who cares.
"My bag is so heavy," you complained, flopping into your assigned seat. It was another window seat, and the view of the land underneath becoming smaller and smaller until it was covered by a sea of clouds made you feel a little better. Still, how did your bag get that heavy? When it was empty, it was literally lightweight, and when you were still shopping, it wasn't that hard to carry it as you went from store to store. You groaned, rolling your shoulder from the pain of carrying the boulder of a bag.
"That's what I get for buying so much," you berated yourself, opening the flap and looking inside. Surprisingly, two fluffy foxes were curled up in there, resting comfortably on your white scarf. For a moment, you thought your foxes had hitched a ride and were coming home with you, but you'd obviously notice that, right? And besides, you did see the stuffed animals in the gift shop.
"I can't believe I actually bought the stuffed foxes just because I'll miss the real ones," you huffed, blushing slightly, as if the foxes were there and could hear you. But the foxes were not there, you had left them at the lodge, so you settled for stroking the faux fur of the stuffed foxes, the silky smooth strands so lifelike that if you didn't know better, you'd think it was real.
"Finally," you gasped, face planting into the soft fluffy white of your blanket. You tugged off Tooru's sweater and folded it neatly, walking out and placing it on your counter, ready to return. You rummaged through your bag, that you had dropped to the floor as soon as you opened the door to your room, and tugged out the scarf from underneath your very suspiciously heavy fox plushies.
You unwrapped the bundle, pulling all your souvenirs out before bunching up the scarf and throwing it into your laundry basket. You set the book and postcard deck on your bookshelf, next to other various books and collectibles you've found over the years, and grabbed the velvet box, feeling its smooth texture against the palm of your hand. You set it on top of the teal hoodie, before changing out of your jeans and shirt into shorts and an oversized tee, boyfriend style.
Ugh, a boyfriend. You've been single for way too long.
"Please let me wake up to a miracle," you prayed, closing your eyes and pulling a serene face, before immediately flopping over and falling asleep.
Of course, you do not expect to wake up cuddled up to a warm chest while listening to someone messing around in your bathroom, the shutting of cupboards and a phone call drifting from the white door.
You laid there, relishing the comfort that came from being flush against someone's side, tucked under their arm.
That's when it hit you that strangers were in your house.
You bolted up, using your hand to choke back the scream bubbling from your throat, not wanting to let either person know you were awake.
You looked down, realizing that you had just left the side of a very handsome and very shirtless man, his eyes slowly opening when he felt the absence of your warmth, showing you his beautiful light brown eyes, getting lost in the gold specs like stars.
You ripped your gaze away from him and moved to swing your legs over the edge of the bed. Unfortunately for you, the mystery man reached up and tugged you back down to him, holding a finger up to his very pink and very kissable and very attract— , wait, no. He held his finger against his lips, shushing you.
"Wait, he's coming out. Stay beside me."
Just as you opened your mouth to retaliate, he had already thrown your white covers over the both of you and looped an arm around you, his hand resting at your waist.
The door to the bathroom opened, and yet another stranger walked out, though it was only him, making the total number of intruders two. He had the same eyes and lips, which were the definition of picture perfect, and he was also lacking in the shirt department. His brows furrowed, and you could already feel the argument starting.
"What the hell do ya think yer doin'?!"
   "She prefers me."
   "No she doesn't!"
   "It's true, right doll?"
Both pairs of identical eyes stared at you, and you started panicking under the pressure.
"I don't even know you! This is literally stranger danger!" you yelled, jumping out of the warmth of both the blanket and the guy in your bed, dodging as his hand reached out to pull you back in.
You pressed your back against the wall, staying as far away from them as possible. You then realized what you were wearing, and tugged your shirt down even further, mentally slapping yourself for wearing shorts that left almost nothing to imagination with a shirt that reached your thighs, which would put you at a disadvantage if you had to fight or flight.
The stranger finally got out of your bed and walked next to the other, but it was only once they were next to each other that you realized they were twins, identical twins. Both had dyed hair, but one was blond while the other had grey hair. Their bangs were parted to opposite sides, so they kind of mirrored each other, which made you shiver.
   "Don't ya remember us?"
   "Yeah, you liked me better."
As they started bickering, as almost all siblings do, you noticed the two sweaters you bought sitting on the edge of the bed. Snatching them and balling them up in either fist, you threw them at them.
   "At least wear these!"
"Those sweaters would eat me alive, but they fit you so well," you sighed, sitting on your legs on your bed, the two still standing in front of you.
As they pulled the cloth over their head, you noticed the ribbons tied around their neck as they popped free from the neckline. You felt your heart sink to your stomach when you realized they were grey and yellow ribbons.
"'s not like we've never slept with you before," yellow ribbon said.
"You even asked me to be your baby," grey ribbon added, catching his twin's elbow in his hand.
"I haven't even been in the city for the past week! I was at the lodge forest thing."
   "So were we."
   "Yeah, we came from there."
"Then how did you end up here?!"
"We came with ya," yellow ribbon said matter-of-factly while the other shrugged in agreement.
Your breath got caught in your throat as you flipped the flap of your bookbag over, looking at the empty space in dismay.
   "Where are my foxes?"
"That's us!" they chorused, identical smirks of pride on their faces, as if being yours was something to show off or brag about.
"They were plushies! People cannot be plushies!"
"No, they were real foxes, and we're real foxes, 'cause they were us."
"Where the hell would I get real foxes?!"
They saw the moment you pieced two and two together, your face turning from one of anxious anger to acceptance as you realized what they were trying to say.
The ribbons. Their colors. The plushies that felt a little too real. That one night in your cabin. The day you fed them in that one cafe.
   They were your foxes.
"Yup," grey ribbon nodded his head, and you shut your mouth, not wanting to accidentally say what you were thinking again.
"Why did you come here? You belong in the forest!"
"No, we're your foxes," they said in unison.
"No you aren't," you groaned, covering your face with both your hands.
The two of them had attached themselves to your side, and when you said that, they seemed to get even more annoyed, and so they snuggled even closer to you, an arm slung around your shoulders and around your waist.
"What are your names?" you finally relented, relaxing in their grip.
"Miya Osamu," the one with the grey ribbon said, pulling you closer from the waist.
"Miya Atsumu, the better twin," the one with the yellow ribbon retorted, tugging you back with the arm around your shoulder.
"Stop pushing me around! We barely know each other!"
"Can you stop with that already?" Osamu said, though he had no actual anger or malice behind his words.
"Or do we have to remind you who you belong to?" Atsumu said suggestively, and you braced yourself for whatever mischief he had planned.
In one moment, you were sitting normally in the middle of your bed. In the next, you were back against your headboard, your head on your pillows. And you became a pillow, as Osamu tucked his face in your neck and Atsumu rested his head on your chest.
"We're taking a nap together again whether you like it or not," Osamu said decisively, and you could tell that was that, no arguing.
"At least let me pull those off, it's embarrassing," you complained, your hand drifting up to Atsumu's ribbons.
"No," he said, catching your hand warningly. Something in his voice made you obey immediately. "That's mine."
"Well this is mine too!" you replied heatedly, bringing a hand up and cradling Osamu's head against you. But instead of doing anything or acting out like any normal person would, Osamu started purring, a satisfied grin on his face while you had a look of dismay, your cheeks reddening.
Atsumu glared at him, moving your hand so your arm was wrapped around him, pulling him closer as well. You got the hint and raised your other hand to run your fingers through his hair, leaving you to deal with two purring fox-shifting idiots.
"Fine, you're both mine, I guess," you gave up, fighting back a blush and pretending that statement didn't warm your heart as much as it did.
"And your ours," they chorused happily, and you didn't even try to hide the pink spreading across your cheeks when they rubbed their faces against yours.
"Okay," you said quietly, accepting the fact that them being yours and you being theirs made you feel something happy and content in your chest, something that was dangerously close to love. If you were like them, you were one hundred percent sure you'd start purring, too.
I mean, you did say you wanted a boyfriend, and the universe was kind enough to give you more than what you bargained for.
The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with yellow and red while the blues and purples of night crept closer. The clouds were fluffy and lined with silver, their normal white reflecting pink hues.
The last rays of sunlight filtered through a sheer peach curtain, coating everything in gold lighting.
Three people were sleeping soundly on a bed, the white blanket thrown over their tangled legs, breaths even and in sync. Dyed grey hair peeked out from under a chin, and blond hair tickled a collarbone. Natural hair was sprawled out on the white stuffed pillows.
Osamu opened an eye, before raising his head and pressing a soft kiss to the sleeping beauty's lips.
And if he raised a finger to his lips? Well, I can't say what happened next, because my lips are sealed.
oh my GOD did this take forever between writing this and school and the fanart of this (which i’ll post later) i took way longer than i normally would
that being said, i hope you still like it <3

Saturday night's alright for fighting (but Sundays are meant for rest) - Who's Vixen?
Part 8
The trolls have it, no cuddling here. No Jasons were harmed in the making of this chapter, though I would love to see what you guys think she was doing with the cloth. Tim might have thoughts on how he finds them.

~---~
If anyone asked Marinette what possessed her to think taunting Red Hood was a good idea, she'd immediately shove Plagg in their face and run. Truly, it had to be that damned cat's influence making her into the petty creature she resembled right now.
Sure, three weeks had passed since Jason had interrupted her first true masked interaction with Red Robin, but that only meant she'd had time to plan for this.
She'd evaded the others easily, knowing Robin and Red would be on the lookout for her specifically, but that didn't mesh well with what she wanted to come of tonight. Either one could interrupt later, but for now, she needed Hood alone.
Grateful the flute never manifested on this merged suit, she imagined the illusion she wished to create. Building the magic beneath her claws, Tuemessian scraped once across the concrete, allowing a gray tabby cat to manifest where she pulled back from. Down below, she saw Red Hood turn at the sound, looking up and seeing the cat tracing a path down the pipes onto a fire escape and down into the alley beside him.
Picking her way across the roof, she watched as he disregarded the cat, making way for the fire escape the cat just exited. Upon reaching the top, he looked around the roof, only to find the same cat sitting on the roof ledge, watching him.
Hood only stared a moment before shaking his head and looking ahead, seemingly mapping out a way across the rooftops before taking off.
And so the chase began.
Every roof he stopped on for more than a moment, the same cat would appear, stalking across the edge of his vision. Only now every time he turned to look, the creature disappeared.
After four or five reappearances, Hood turned unexpectedly, catching the cat in his sights, gun pointed at the devilish creature.
Seemingly nonplussed by his threat, the cat leaned forward on its perch and sniffed the barrel of the gun before meowing at him and jumping down the side of the building.
Looking over the edge, he watched it pick its way over to a dumpster and disappear inside it. Heaving a sigh, he took its place sitting upon the roof ledge. He still couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Dropping his covered head into his hands, he took a few deep breaths through the helmet, contemplating taking it off a moment just to stave off the claustrophobic paranoia. Only for water to rain down on his head.
"What tHE FUCK," Hood yelled, jumping up only to have a cloth wrap around the mask, rubbing back and forth across the surface. Twisting and reaching out simultaneously to throw off his attacker, he was met with air. Rapidly turning in a circle, he found the spot he sat in still wet, cloth on the ground at his feet. So not his imagination. Something was following him.
Oh, game on.
Running over the rooftops again, he focused in on anything behind him, listening for even the slightest breath of air, a single scratch of concrete, anything.
Feeling a shift of air right behind him, he dropped down and swept his foot behind him, bracing for impact, only to find none.
An indistinct giggle sounded to his left and he launched himself towards the sound, only to force into a tuck roll when no impact came. Landing on his feet, he took off once more, still focusing behind himself, only to have his arm yanked on, veering him to the right, only then noticing the billboard he almost ran headlong into. Stopping short once more, he pressed his back against the darkened side of the sign, peering out into the night before him, assessing the situation.
One, someone was following him. Obviously.
Two, they were toying with him. It pissed him off to no end, but nothing had been violent as of yet.
Three, they prevented his dumbass from faceplanting into…
Peaking around the edge of the sign, he saw it was an advertisement for Wayne Enterprises newest project. Oh, that just fucking figures.
Three, they prevented him from the embarrassment of bashing his face into his family's billboard. He'd never hear the end of it had someone caught That on camera.
Okay… so the presence was most likely benevolent, if a little playful and sneaky as all hell.
Giving a rattling, bone deep sigh, still watching the empty space before him, he reached up and clicked on his comm for the first time that night, switching to a specific channel.
"Yo, babybird."
It took a moment too long for the other end of the line to click open, but he waited, knowing the lack of desire to respond to the nickname was the only reason for the hesitation.
"What is it, Hood?"
"Your shadow get bored of you?"
"....how do you mean."
"Pretty sure it's following me."
".... Good luck with that."
Jerking forward, he yelled over the com, "What do you mean, good luck?! Come collect it, it obviously likes you more!"
"No it doesn't, you just said it was bored of me."
"It helped you though!"
"... What exactly did it do to you then?"
"...Nothing violent. But it obviously has Something against me."
He was met with radio silence for a solid minute. Hood was beginning to think RR might have turned his end off and left him to his fate, in which case he was going to personally hunt the bird down and make him take the damn stalker back. Suddenly, the line flicked back open.
"I'm in route, hold tight."
And with that, the line went quiet. He considered comming Batman as well if only to fill him in on the situation, only to shake the thought away, 'Fuck that, he'd just over react. Harmless or not, he'd attack for simply walking on his terf.'
In his distraction, Hood forgot the space he created behind his back. That is, until he felt a hand pressing into the tense muscles of his upper back, right into the tender spot by the shoulder blade where a knot had formed. Reacting without thought, he reached over and locked his hand around a tiny wrist.
At first, all he felt was shock. Four months of trying to even prove the existence of this shadow and now he holds it by the wrist. That was when he saw it. The same tabby cat from earlier at the edge of the roof. The second he spotted it, the cat was on the move, claws bared and teeth glinting as it hurled itself towards him.
Pulling his arm around, forcing the wrist to follow, he used the shadow, that now was an indistinct black blur, as a human shield. It seemed to wrap around him and suddenly the cat was gone. Sitting stock still and gripping the wrist a little tighter, he watched for the cat to reappear only to hear a giggle in his ear.
Part of the blur pulled back and revealed catlike eyes that would put Selina's costume to shame, the iris a vibrant glowing blue bleeding into silvery gray scleras. The second he took note of the eyes, the rest of a body became apparent, settled into his lap, legs wrapped around his torso and wrist held in his hand the other coming up and quickly tugging his helmet off, tossing it aside in a swift movement before he could react. Red chose that moment to land on the other end of the rooftop.
"Vixen!"
The creature tilted its head, something in the hood flicking at Red Robin's voice, but eyes not leaving Hood, looking like a predator having trapped its prey after a long hunt. Which meant no sense since he caught her.
"Get off him."
'Vixen' as littlebird called him, arched their back, using the captive wrist and tightened legs as a tether point to go back further until they were looking back at his brother from an upside down vantage.
"Aww, I was just having a little fun. He interrupted mine after all."
"Come here, little shadow."
With that, they pulled free of his grip like it was nothing, twisting off him and disappearing, only to reappear in front of Red, pressed into his space and bushy tail swishing behind them. His brother seemed completely unfazed by the visual confirmation of the nonentity that had been stalking them all this time.
"So you decided to finally trust another?"
Giggling, the figure pulled the hood down from their head, ears popping out from under it, probably what had been twitching earlier.
"Yeah, figured I'd mess with him while I still had anonymity on my side," the voice finally took on a tone, sounding feminine and painfully familiar.
Coming out of his stupor at this display of casual trust between the two, Hood loudly cleared his throat, gaining the attention of both.
"Hey Red, Vixen. Excuse me, but what the fuck is going on here?"
The rather small girl? Woman? Whatever. Turning towards him, the facial features and hair came into view along with that same soft, female voice, seemingly taking notice of him again.
"Hiya Jason."
"... Pixie pop?!"
"Damn, how much of the glamor did you take off?" Red asked.
"Most of it. My face looks like mine smeared in paint with weird eyes to him right now," she stated, making her way back over to him and offering a hand.
"You're the goddamned shadow that's been driving Bats in circles?!"
"Well yeah. But it's okay! Alfred knows."
"Of fucking course Alfred knows, he knows everything… but you know as well. All of us?"
She nodded solemnly.
Letting out a sigh, he ruffled her hair only to stop as his hand hit an ear.
"So what the hell is with this getup anyways?"
"You heard about the whole situation with a ladybug a few years back in Paris?"
"Yeah, with the magic shit that barred us all from the city, I remember. You telling me it's connected to that?"
"Let's just say it's the same source of power. I'll tell you more another time. Point is, the fox bits are real in costume, so gentle please?"
Immediately tugging at an ear tip, dragging an upset whine from her, "I don't know, should I be nice to someone who was perfectly content messing with me all night?"
Smacking his hand away, she pouted, not paying attention as Red immediately put his hand on top of her head in a soothing motion.
"You deserved it."
"Oh yeah, and how is that?"
"Startled me three weeks ago on a rooftop when I was stalking Red. You were waiting for me to make myself a little more solid so you could catch me!"
"Well excuse me, little grudge keeper, but I wouldn't have tried to catch you if you'd just let us know it was you. When did you get so vindictive anyways?" He asked, gaze flickering to the casual contact between the two in front of him before brushing it off as their unusual form of comfort they seemed to have with one another.
"Oh yeah, because Batman is always so welcoming to anyone in his city who seems not completely human. And you're not the most inviting vigilante yourself there. Really, would you have accepted me as a non threat if I did just immediately reveal myself."
"Alright alright, point taken, kid."
Seeming to fidget in place, she looked up at him, tugging the fabric normally covering her mouth up a bit to hide under.
"You're not upset, are you?"
Softening, he pulled her into a bear hug, enveloping her into his chest, "Course not, sweetheart. I'm going to get you back for that stunt you pulled earlier though!" He threatened, ruffling the hair between her ears once more.
"Try and retaliate and I'll tell everyone about you almost running face first-mrph," he cut her off by smothering her face further into his chest.
"Point made! We should get going, yeah?"
Pulling free, she glared up at him, before making way to the edge of the roof, Red following them.
"How long have you known your shadow was Mari, anyways?"
"Hey! Codenames only."
"Right, Vixen."
"Actually it's Tuemessian," she deflects, changing the topic and jumping on Red's back, much to Hood's amusement.
"Oh yeah, like the Greek fox?"
"Exactly!"
"Hmm, destined to never be caught. Pretty fitting, though the original mythos has you created to punish Thebes for its crimes."
"And that isn't what I'm doing?"
Blinking back, he stopped a moment, "oh hell, you really thought it through, didn't you?"
She disappeared from sight, though a trained eye could see the fold in fabric where her weight settled around Red, who was surprisingly quiet throughout the encounter.
"Mmm," she hummed in that weird mix of voices once more.
Taking off across the rooftops once more, he realized one crucial detail he missed, "You knew she was your shadow this whole time!" He called after them, receiving a bark of laughter in return.

Tumblr media
💀      *   [   arón   piper   +   cis   male   +   he/him   ]   ——   have   you   met   benício   ‘benny’   salazar?   they   are   a   twenty-two   year   old   junior   currently   studying   fine   arts.   they   live   on   farrow   house,   and   word   around   campus   is   that   this   leo   is   debonair   +   confident,   as   well   as   careless   +   abrasive.   i   wonder   if   they’ll   make   it   out   alive.   paint   stained   clothes.   a   golden   crucifix   against   a   freckled   chest.   sunlight   filtering   through   thin   drapes.
𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘.
benício   was   born   july   23rd   1998   in   granada,   spain,   to   two   teenage   parents.   he   doesn’t   know   their   names,   doesn’t   know   anything   about   them   other   than   the   fact   that   they   were   both   very   young   and   very   afraid   on   the   morning   of   august   1st,   when   they   officially   handed   benício   over   for   adoption.
just   three   months   later,   benny   was   adopted   by   grace   and   cristiano   salazar,   one   of   the   wealthiest   couples   in   all   of   spain;   benny   was   then   brought   to   barcelona,   where   he   lived   until   the   day   he   was   accepted   into   holloway   university.
his   mother   is   an   american   businesswoman   that   owns   one   of   the   most   lucrative   (   yet   utterly   imoral   )   shipping   companies   in   the   world,   and   his   father   is   a   spanish   artist;   they   were   both   very   absent   in   his   growing   up,   his   mother   spending   most   of   her   time   in   the   us   while   his   father   would   spend   his   days   locked   away   in   his   studio,   creating   world-famous   paintings   and   sleeping   with   all   of   his   far   too   young   protegés.   benny   and   his   sister   were   mostly   raised   by   nannies   and   the   house   staff,   unless   they   were   to   somehow   make   his   mother   look   good   in   the   public   eye.
his   parents   wanted   him   to   follow   his   mother’s   footsteps,   to   graduate   from   a   good   business   school   and   take   over   the   company   alongside   his   sister,   but   that   was   never   what   benício   wanted   for   himself;   he   was   an   artist   just   like   his   father,   always   marvelled   by   the   color   palettes   of   cristiano’s   paintings,   drawing   figures   from   the   moment   his   chubby   little   fingers   learned   how   to   grasp   a   pencil   for   the   first   time;   he’s   always   had   so   much   money   it   has   lost   its   value   in   his   eyes,   and   benny   would   rather   live   as   a   broke   artist   than   to   exploit   people   the   way   his   mother’s   company   does.
still,   growing   up,   benny   was   the   perfect   son.   he   was   always   very   neat   and   quiet,   got   the   best   grades   in   his   class,   dated   only   the   prettiest   of   girls.   in   his   parents’   presence   he   was   subdued   and   polite,   the   golden   child   his   mother   had   always   dreamed   of.   that,   of   course,   wasn’t   the   case   at   all:   benny   would   lie   and   cheat   his   way   into   good   grades,   skip   class   to   smoke   week   in   the   parking   lot   with   his   friends,   fool   around   with   any   cute   boy   he   could   find.   he   lived   a   double   life,   and   it   made   him   truly   miserable.
when   time   came   for   his   college   decision,   benício   decided   he   was   done   lying   about   who   he   was;   he   enrolled   in   a   fine   arts   major,   and   held   his   head   high   as   his   mother   screamed   the   nasties,   most   horrid   words   at   him.   he   left   for   school   just   a   month   after   that,   and   although   it’s   been   years,   the   young   man   hasn’t   had   an   actualy   conversation   with   the   woman   since.
𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘.
despite   refusing   to   lie   about   his   passions   in   life   (   or   his   sexual   orientation   ),   benny   still   isn’t   fully   honest   with   most   people.   he   wears   a   mask   of   a   party   boy,   the   fun   guy   that   is   always   ready   to   take   things   to   the   next   level.   in   reality,   benny   still   has   the   same   quiet   habits   he   used   to   have   with   his   parents,   always   more   of   an   observer   than   the   center   of   the   show   when   he’s   with   people   he   actually   cares   about.
absolutely   addicted   to   adrenaline,   even   if   he   refuses   to   admit   it.   will   put   himself   and   others   in   the   way   of   danger   if   it   means   getting   another   fix.
aesthetic   hoe™.
he’s   always   ready   for   a   fist   fight,   though   that   has   more   to   do   with   his   wild   persona   than   any   anger   or   resentment   he   holds   inside;   those   issues   he   often   bottles   up   and   lashes   out   onto   himself   instead   of   others.
a   creature   of   habits,   despite   of   his   wild   outings   during   the   weekends   and   drinking   binges,   benny   has   a   very   strict   schedule   he   likes   to   follow.
don’t   call   him   benício,   or   he   will   clock   you   in   the   face.
𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐓𝐒.
a   BEST   FRIEND   /   benny   and   this   person   met   during   their   first   year,   and   they   instantly   clicked.   they   know   each   other   better   than   anyone   else,   and   you’ll   never   see   one   without   the   other.
an   EX   GIRLFRIEND   /   despite   promising   himself   that   he   would   be   his   most   authentic   self   in   college,   that   didn’t   happen   right   away.   these   two   dated   for   a   good   few   months   during   benício’s   second   year,   before   he   felt   comfortable   enough   to   come   out.   i   can   definitely   see   him   trying   to   come   out   to   her   by   the   end   of   their   relationship   and   just   blurting   out   something   stupid   like   ‘i’m   not   attracted   to   you’   or   something   just   as   equally   hurtful   and   not   knowing   how   to   fix   it   afterwards.
a   RIVAL   /   another   party   person,   they   have   a   rivalty   where   they   are   constantly   trying   to   out-do   each   other   during   parties   and   outings;   if   one   of   them   chugs   a   bottle   of   beer,   the   other   will   chug   two   etc.   they   are   definitely   very   messy   and   bad   for   each   other.
a   GOOD   INFLUENCE   /   someone   that   sees   benny   for   who   he   is,   the   soft   layers   underneath   the   bad   boy   persona,   and   often   tries   to   bring   that   out   of   him.
a   SIBLING-LIKE   RELATIONSHIP   /   they   are   each   other’s   cornerstone,   bickering   constantly   but   still   dying   for   one   another;   benny   often   tells   them   he   would   rather   have   them   as   family   than   his   own   sister.
a   HATE   SHIP   /   they   hate   each   other,   but   still   can’t   get   enough   of   each   other;   they   fight   constantly,   and   those   altercations   always   end   up   in   a   bed,   or   angry   sex   in   the   local   bar’s   bathroom,   or   frenetic   make   out   sessions   at   the   library.
a   FRIENDS   WITH   BENEFITS   /   they   like   to   get   on,   but   they   also   enjoy   each   other’s   company   outside   of   the   bedroom;   be   it   in   a   study   group,   or   just   hanging   out   on   a   friday   night,   benny   always   says   the   sex   is   just   the   cherry   on   top   of   their   no-strings-attached   relationship.
a   ONE   NIGHT   STAND   /   for   some   reason,   their   little   affair   didn’t   work   out.   maybe   they   even   tried   to   go   on   a   date   after   their   night   together   but   the   chemistry   just   wasn’t   there;   maybe   it’s   super   awkard,   maybe   they   became   really   good   friends   afterwards.
FRIENDS   OF   ALL   KINDS   /   literally   all   of   the   friendship   ideas.   maybe   they   share   some   classes   together,   maybe   they   met   on   the   communal   spaces   of   the   dorm,   maybe   they   bumped   into   each   other   on   campus   and   started   talking.

TW BEE SUICIDE ATTEMPT
adam sat upon the flower, observing the people around him. humans were so fucking stupid, honestly. like who the fuck would think that it was a good idea to put peanut butter and jelly in a sandwich together, when honey would compliment the jelly so much better? idiots. watching as a mother slathered her child with what seemed like way too much suncream, adam could not help but ponder how barry fell for one of these disgusting creatures. and one who looks like theresa may, none the less! barry had bad taste in the bitches if he did say so himself. although that was hippocritical for the bee who was in love with the bee who was in love with a human who looked like fiona from shrek in a human au. wait no, thats unfair on fiona, shes waaaaaayy better looking than that dumpster fire, bitch ass, boris johnson looking hoe with her short ass hair and stupid name. vanessa. ugh- even saying it made adam throw up in his mouth. vanes-augh. [wait can bees even throw up? eh, probably. what would they do if they accidentally ate a bit of a mARMITE otherwise,? that shit be nasty.] cant barry just requite his love and fuck him already? like, this isnt some angsty, 270k+, friends to lovers to enemies to lovers to friends to enemies to lovers fanfiction trope. it isnt 2004 people! sighing, adam ran a hand through his //moist// fuzz and thought about just jumping off of the flower and ending it all. after all, it was a rose, his brother's girlfriends step sister's son was killed by one of those. eh, whats he got to lose? like an alpha male, he triple flipped off of the rose, his small body getting closer to the thorns as every second passed, waiting for them to penetrate him. (ha, shame itd be the roses doing that and not barry, eh? ;))) until they didnt. what the fuck? he was meant to be dead and no longer have to face his unrequited love for his best friend and the fact that his mother was making him go on a vegan diet. (apparently cannabalism 'isnt good for his mental health.' well look where my mental health has gotten me now kAREN.) adams musings were interrupted by a voice. "jesus christ adam what the hell were you thinking?"
barry? barry had saved him? oh. well of course he had, barry was so fucking perfect with his black and yellow stripes and his sexy voice. goddamit, why did he have to have a nice personality too? why couldnt he just be an asshole fuck boy? "adam, can you hear me there buddy?"
buddy? ugh. i just got r/friendzoned.
"ugh yeah barry-buddy- i can hear you"
"great. now wHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING ADAM? YOU COULDVE DIED. DIED! YOU WOULD BE DEAD AND ID NEVER BE ABLE TO TELL YOU HOW MUCH I-" barry broke down into sobs as adam patted his back gently, wondering what barry wanted to tell him.
"barry, its okay- you saved me. im here now and you can say whatever you wish."
"adam i- i- fuck."
"take your time, love. its okay"
barry looked at adam strangely as he realised what he had just said. LOVE? SHIT. WHAT THE FUCK WAS HE THINKING?
"adam i love you."
adam waited; and waited; and waited. this had to be a joke. a cruel friendzoning or a shout of no homo afterwards. but barry was silent, looking everywhere but at him.
"-and" barry continued, finally locking his eyes with his sunlight struck orbs of amber.
"i know you love me too."
adam stared at barry, transfixed on the bee in front of him, the bee that he loved. how did barry know? apart from the slip up a second ago, he had done a pretty good job at keeping his emotions hidden. he was just a dude chilling in a honey tub, five feet away from barry because he wasnt gay. then it hit him, like a truck hitting a fox.
"sonofabitch you read my dream journal."
barry looked at him sheepishly, with guilt ridden eyes.
"well you left your diary at my house. and i read those pages, you really love me baby..."
adam coughed, trying to hide a splutter at the fact that barry had just called him baby. this bee was going to be the death of him.
"ha, yes-well. i- it is true. i do love you barry."
barrys face immediately broke out into a grin as he brought adam into a tight hug, clinging onto adam as if he were going to discintegrate, like voldemort in the deathly hallows movie despite the fact that in the books he just died like a normal fucking person. thanks hollywood. anyway, adam buried his face in barrys fuzz, finally at peace.
"waIT!" he screamed suddenly, pulling away.
"what?" barry answered, looking slightly scared for his life.
"what about vanessa?"
last time hed seen barry hed been infatuated with the she-demon, wtf happened? was barry fucking with him. he didnt want that. barry should be fucking him not fucking with him. what if-
"oh her? yeah she poured milk before her cereal. crazy bitch" barry stated, wrapping his fingers in adams fuzz.
adam giggled, relieved that this wasnt just a joke.
"yeah, i always got those kinda vibes from her."
he turned to see barry smiling softly up at him.
"yeah, i should have realised sooner."
and with that he was back in barrys arms, never wanting to leave.

he turned to see barry smiling softly up at him.

Date My Best Friend, You Dumb Cat - Superhero Accidental Reveal Fic
Alya Found Out Adrien's Secret and is MAd that He Isn't Doing His Homework
So... I had this piece in my head since I saw that old Instagram post about Alya and Adrien being partners for a school project and that comic about Adrien and Alya having an accidental Reveal when their glamour dropped.
May make this a series.. Also have this same thing but with Chloe - Check them out! ( 1 ) and ( 2 )
And then with Marinette/Ladybug and Adrien - ( 1 )
Two months, one week, three days, and seven hours since the new semester started.
Two months, one week, and twelve hours since Miss Bustier assigned the first group project.
Two months, one week, eleven hours, and forty minutes since Alya Césaire and Adrien Agreste were randomly selected to be partners.
Four minutes after that, Alya teased her best friend mercilessly if she wanted to trade partners.
Two years, six months, two weeks and twenty-three hours since Ladybug and Chat Noir first appeared in Paris.
Two years, six months, and three weeks since Alya met her best friend, Marinette Dupain-Cheng on the first day of school in a new town.
Two seconds since she discovered Chat Noir’s identity.
Two years, six months, and two weeks since Marinette confessed to Alya about her crush on a certain blond she thought Marinette strongly disliked.
Seven seconds since she found out about Chat’s secret identity.
Two years and five months since Alya decided to investigate the real-life superheroes patrolling the city.
Eleven seconds since the mask and the magical spandex fully disintegrated off her skin.
What happened only moments ago played as if someone clicked freeze-frame on this point of Alya Césaire’s life as her miraculous glamour dropped.
Leaving Alya Césaire in the cold alley as Rena Rouge vanished into thin air. Ending the superhero illusion when her suit reached its five-minute limit.
The dazzled Lady-blogger watched the little coy Fox God of Illusion twist their expression in amusement. The corners of their mouth turned up in a sharp smile, playfully flicking their tongue at their user.
“Oh, this is going to be fun explaining to the Leader Lady.”
-
“You’re-! ADrienN!” Alya choked.
“How- OH MY GOD! You’re- Oh my god!!” She stuttered, barely grasping what was going on as she tripped over her words while the fatal conclusion hit her gut. Her stomach felt hot and twirled in knots. Her cold, clammy hands traveled to her curls, locking her fingers in her hair as she pulled strands away from her face. Not believing what she just witnessed.
Alya swore on this day that she went brain dead before her eyes widened and readjusted to the dark atmosphere. Without her mask, Alya was left without her magical night vision, forced to focus on the scene organically while her glasses slowly dipped off the bridge of her nose.
The gears clicked and ground in Alya Césaire’s observant mind, jumping faster to conclusions than a gun could fire a bullet into a clear sunny day. Pinning ideas and theories then shuffling around clues that could make this sound believable to herself. Even as she sat there, sitting in the middle of the alley-way trash bin, watching the aftermath of the Miraculous unfold.
 GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course, she JUST HAD to make the grave mistake on dropping into the same alley that Chat Noir did.
AND OF COURSE!!-, she did it without thinking it through! Not while the adrenaline levels spiked up in the blood in her veins, giving her this deadly sense of invincibility. The same feeling that made her fearless when she leaped over buildings and dropped from heights that could kill her and her courage.
However, in the heat of the moment, there’s no time left to worry when her necklace gave an urgent beep. Alya remembered thinking that she had more time to spare, yet the second she blinked -her orange suit was already peeling off her body. Causing her to lose her footing in mid-air which led to one of the most ungracefully landings she has ever made. Drawing blood as she scraped her hands hitting the brick wall and almost breaking her neck if she hadn’t landed in the stuffed dumpster or pushed her feet under her weight to cushion her fall. Her sweatshirt returned back on her body and her hair was no longer crimson red, but tree bark brown with fading colored tips.
Then with a loud THUMP, BOOM, and CRASH, a commotion that surely woke up the surrounding neighborhood and scared off any stray cats in the area, the two heroes fell out of the sky and landed into their civilian selves.
Of course, Alya didn’t realize she wasn’t the only one that crash-landed in the alley until it was a second too late to do anything about it.
Untangling herself from the garbage-bins tagged with graffiti and unsettling stains, Alya puffed and huffed, holding her breath to trap the last bit of fresh air she had stored in her lungs. Only to gasp for air, not because of the grime and disgusting odors around her but she noticed the glow and gleam of green and black across from her.
Alya swore that she covered her eyes, for her sake and his- but she recognized that voice as it groaned. Along with those familiar orange shoes that kicked up and around, same with the sweats with a familiar logo stitched on the side.
The Gabriel Brand.
Gabriel Agreste.
THE Gabriel Agreste.
One of the top lines in fashion.
Practical clothing but at expensive prices.
A-And that! What he was wearing was part of a new street-wear! One only rumored to exist and if so- it wasn’t hitting the stores for a figure of a few months!! (Thank you, Marinette for your vast knowledge of fashion and launches and your endless rambles about them.)
Yet, how could-!? How could this sly cat have access to the brand or rumored collection!? How could this leather-wearing flirt have the cash to have anything with the Agreste brand on it?
Was he some sort of business partner? A loyal customer with benefits? Heir to a company that has ties with the Agreste? New money or old?!
No- that can’t be right. Gabriel wouldn’t just hand off his secret collection unless…Unless it was someone worth giving to.
It wasn’t until the infamous cat raised his head up in a moan that Alya Césaire, local Lady-blogger, saw his face, Chat Noir’s face, without the mask.
As ungracious this whole situation was, this seemed like the only right way to figure out the kitty’s identity.
All thanks to a series of unfortunate events and some bad luck.
Something totally on-brand for him.
The blond brushed his hair with the tips of his fingers before lightly rubbing the sore spot over his neck. Rocking his head back and forth and around to alleviate the stinging. His forehead wrinkled as he groaned once more, knitting his eyebrows together. All before opening his acid green eyes wide at the reporter when she released the breath she held in.
Adrien Agreste being this cocky superhero that swirled and twirled about the city- the same one that wore a bell and slick black leather- explained so little and left so many questions unanswered.
It did, however, explain the little details that she looked over when it came to Adrien Agreste. How he jumped into action when he heard the Akuma Alert, how he didn’t run for his life but quickly claim that he needed to go to the bathroom when a giant semi-monster or Akuma loomed over the city, how he seemed to be a true Ladybug Stan since the beginning it all- even when Paris was barely getting used with their new super-reality, how he checked with Alya after almost every blog post if she uploaded something during school hours, the quick comments and awkward praise given about his alter-ego when the Miraculous Duo came to be the topic again in the lunch table.
The Lady-blogger knew that Chat Noir playing offense when Darkblade came to claim Paris could be a clue, how Chat Noir knew where to take the students when evacuating the school after a nasty Akuma attack when he ‘supposedly’ never been there, and then how Chat Noir called everyone by their name when it was the first time her classmates even had the chance to see him in person and not on a news-recap.
Why Adrien had to miss the grand installment of the Miraculous Duo Statue in the park, but he never really missed it because he was THERE! Chat Noir was in her classroom and she didn’t even-!!
Alya gasped.
“Our project is due before 12!” Cupping her mouth before throwing her hands out to the blond. Yanking him out of the trash by the collar of his jacket.
“Why are you here and not finishing the first draft?!”
Adrien Agreste, still pressed up against the alley wall with his back supported by day-old trash, digested Alya’s words before rolling his eyes. A snarky reply slipped his mouth as he shifted his body into a more comfortable spot after getting squashed in the tight alleyway.
“An evil super villain possessed a child, Alya. I have priorities.”
  “And our grade isn’t!”
Adrien tucked his legs under himself as a cat kwami popped out of his light blue jacket. Struggling to get on his feet from the buzz sensation in his legs after his fall, resting his hands on the dirty concrete before showing more of his superhero persona.
“Again priorities, Alya!” He uttered, ruffling his hair as he took their current situation in.
Stretching his arms as he stood up to his full height. His hair, messy and tangled, suede one side to the other as Adrien shook his head.
“I can’t leave my Lady alone when a crazed toddler is on the loose.”
----
Who would have guessed?
That the Cat with the dangerously charming grin was the same boy that can’t go out with his friends if work intervened or when his dad flatly said no to his face through a tablet held by his black-suited assistants. The guy that would merciless flirt with the red heroine (he still drinks respect women juice tho) was outside of the world of superheroes and villains, a guy that never went out on a proper date with anyone before.
God, this would surely make a great article.
Alya Césaire had uncovered one of the biggest secrets in Paris, all in a matter of some lucky seconds. Not because of her totally-awesome journalist skills, but all because of dumb luck.
Wait-.
She just lost her secret identity too.
--Ladybug is going to kill her.
Alya got sick and pale when she thought this situation over, not with her Lady Blogger brain, but with her superhero ego. Forgetting how her project was late or the fact if she didn’t return home quickly her family would worry if they didn’t find her in bed at this hour.
Ladybug is going to kill them.
No-... she gonna take away their miraculous FIRST so they then don’t have a chance to fight back and THEN kill them. Most likely after her speech about breaking the most important rule of being a superhero.
“Keeping your secret identity a secret.”
Alya groaned into her hands as the memory of Ladybug’s lectures and advanced fighting skills played in her head.
She is so dead.
Letting that fact sink in before taking in a big deep breath.
“It’s fine,” she can work with this. She can bounce back. She can just explain this to Ladybug without losing her chance at being a Miraculous Holder. It’s gonna be fine-
Parting her hands from her face to see Ch-Adrien pull out a little container of cheese for the black kwami nagging and floating by the blond’s head. The tiny god grinned as it nibbled (inhaled) on that snack as it hovered over his Chosen’s shoulder.
Alya screamed in her palms once more, making her peace on earth.
---
Alya thanked Adrien for the slice of cheese. Handing it to Trixx to get him ready for another transformation. The duo decided that it was better to wait it out for their Kwamis rather than try to walk home in the middle of nowhere in the dead of night.
Once Alya came over the shock of finding out Chat Noir’s identity, she bit her tongue before asking any questions. Taking in what was behind the mask, a good observation was key for a reporter since that can tell more than questions itself could.
His hair was different, it wasn’t the right length (when thinking of his magical alter-ego). Nor did it curl by his ears, but it still had that ‘swish’ and ‘fluff’ texture. His eyes were still that acid green color but seemed more on the light shade and looked more ‘natural’ and ‘safe’ compared to the huge, glowing cat eyes he had before. The same eyes that scared criminals in pit black or lit up a night sky. His face’s silhouette matched the pictures of the hero’s. His jaw was the perfect shape and his height was exactly the same, give or take the added milometers from his boots. Yet, it seemed so weird to see this.
There, Chat Noir peeled away left Adrien Agreste. Laying against the tagged-up walls and using the crunchy trash bags to break his fall and now as bean-bag chairs as he laughed at something his Kwami whispered.
“You’re Chat Noir.”
It was the first sentence she said without coughing or yelping. Scaring Adrien to just hear Alya speak in her stern tone, ruining the silence he thought they (unspokenly) agreed to keep. Nevertheless, Adrien should have known that the quiet could only last for a while before Alya recovered and spit questions with a blink of an eye.
It was too good to be true if he thought they could just forget about this and walk away.
The golden boy bit his bottom lip in what seems to be a mixture of shame, embarrassment, and a dash of amusement. Giving Alya a shy smile before shrugging his shoulders.
“Guess the cat is out of the bag,” Adrien, no, Chat Noir grinned.
The Lady-blogger had to stop the burning need to deck him so hard.
A thin, yet toothy smile appeared before losing it when Cha- Adrien’s kwami, a tiny grumpy cat-god with two white-ivory fangs that stood out in contrast with his deep purple fur, asked for more cheese before showing the rest of his sharp teeth in an attempt for a wide innocent smile.
It was terrifying.
“GOD!” Alya cried, rolling her eyes as her fox kwami fled to talk to Chat Noir, wait no, Adrien’s kwami. Still not over that her classmate was part of the Miraculous Duo. The reporter gasped for air even harder as she reached another conclusion.
“I knew it was you! AH! Ha! I knew it in the beginning!” Alya uttered, switching from frustrating sounds to a laugh that made Adrien question the report’s ability to handle and process all this before Alya pumped her fist up before cursing the universe out loud. Her painted nails rubbed circles on her temples while she munched on this memory in her own flashback.
“I-urgh! I knew! I knew you looked too much like Chat Noir, too much to call it ‘chance’. But no!- Marinette brushed me off. Telling me ‘That’s too good to be true!’- and now!” Tossing her hands out to the blond and his kwami.
The undeniable evidence that landed on her plate.
“Here you are! Both Chat Noir and Adri-“
A cold hand cupped on Alya’s mouth. Stopping her from shouting even louder or even finishing her sentence.  Pushing her back to the old brick wall.
The Lady-blogger instinctively fought back, her hands reaching for the fingers over her mouth, but she stopped herself before she scratched the blond or bit his hand (or worse, spit in it).
“Alya,” Adrien hushed. “I know that you know this- but you can’t tell anyone about this. Living or dead- Not a soul, not in any journal entry, not on your blog or to Nino, ever. Not even to Marinette.”
Alya nodded at the sudden serious tone.
“Bad enough that Hawk Moth is still out there with his eye out for our heads. If you or I get akumatized it’s gonna be game over for Ladybug and Paris. You understand that, right?”
Alya shoved his hand away.
“First off, your hand smells like Camembert. Gross.”
“Second,” she sighed. Letting her fingers press against the creases of her forehead before sliding down to her cheek.
“. . .Does Ladybug know?”
Adrien’s fingers tugged on his hoodie string as he nibbled on his lips. His nose crinkled in dissatisfaction.
“We planned to reveal ourselves when Hawk Moth’s gone and defeated . . . “
“How noble.” Alya snorted.
Before Alya could ask anything else, Adrien beat her to the punch. His voice filled the air as cars in the background beeped at each other at the late ride home or to work.
“My turn with this interrogation.” Moving his face a little closer, Adrien Unaware-of-Boundaries-Because-He-Was-Locked-In-A-House-His-Whole-Life Agreste frowned.
“What do you mean by ‘I knew it” and how does Marinette think- wait, does she know that you’re Rena? Alya did you-”
Alya pushed Adrien a step off before rolling her eyes.
  “Of course not!” She scoffed.
“I tell Mari everything, but - But Ladybug trusted me with the miraculous and I kept my secret and promise  to her.” Twisting her leg in anxiousness before quickly commenting, “ Well it was a secret before THIS happened.”

~Study Session at the Library. Be here by 2
~Same table as always
Adrien clicked on the message, typing out a quick response and a time change. Sweeping his hair back, happy with what he wrote after rewriting twice and finally pressing send.
-2:15, but I’m still in the locker room. I’m there by 2:30, tops.
Alya hummed as she saw the little dots on Nino’s phone before disappearing again and then reappearing with a new message. Huffing through her nose before typing a response back.
~It’s due this week and we are out by 3:45.
Adrien pulled his clothes from his locker before hearing the soft buzz of his phone in his gym bag. Groaning in defeat before typing out a dull reply.
-K.
---
Peeling another sticky note to add to the right corner of the book, not before uncapping her thin felt-tipped marker as Marinette scribbled a slanted question. Looping her y’s and not paying attention to the clicks towards the table since it could just be Rose asking for another pen from Alya. However, a chair scraped across the wooden floor and a gym bag thumped on the ground which sent vibrations up the table. Making her jump, pulling back her hand before she accidentally drew a huge line down the page of her textbook.
“Thanks for organizing this session, Alya. I’m glad that we managed to meet up even with my schedule.”
Marinette continued to scribble in her sticky notes. Her handwriting got sloppier as she wrote faster. Her anxiousness escaped from her in her blush and in her quick penmanship. Exhaling sharply, catching Nino’s attention only to lose it as his dirt-colored eyes noticed his best friend. Tugging his headphones off his ears.
“Dude, nice to see you finally make it to one of our ‘nerd meetings’.”
“Hard with my Father and all my tutors back home. Are you gonna finally let me play Mega Strike on your phone or wait until your phone is at 5 percent like last time?”
“Adrien, it was one time!”
“SHH!” the librarian hushed. Quieting the boys and they slowly mellowed in their chairs. The librarian broke his stare and returned back to the paperwork on his desk. The boys broke their silence and the tension in the table as they couldn’t help the chuckles that came up their lips when they looked at each other. Bring back that light environment when the boys nudged each other playfully. Chuckling under their breath as Adrien set his pens and books out from his school bag.
Marinette tried her best to keep her eyes on her paper. She can’t be blushing and rambling like she always did. But God, this was gonna be so hard to do since old habits die hard. As hard as she gripped her pen while she carved the words on her notebook page. The music in her earbuds crashed with her emotions. The lofi beats weren’t calming her; it just made her feel like she was on the wrong station. Debating to switch her playlist to something quicker and louder to make her concentrate on her work and not on something more captivating. . .
WAIT,,, NO!!!! BAD MARINETTE! Don’t think that- he is just a friend!!
Pushing her earbuds in her ear deeper in hopes to drown out his laughter. Her finger swiped across stations and then deciding on to Jagged Stone’s new single. Killing the urge to stare at the model or steal looks at him, but surely looking at him couldn’t hurt-
GOD! WHY DOES SHE HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS!?
They’re just friends. And “just friends” doesn’t mean that you should stare at each other’s eyes. “Just Friends” means just friends especially when one of the friends looks like a certain blond and is potentially dating someone else-
A pink pen rolled over her notebook.
Is that- a Ladybug pen?
Marinette tugged on the wires of her earbuds, letting them fall off her ears and pausing the first verse of Jagged’s song.
“Ah-could you guys pass me my supplies?”
Marinette’s blue eyes finally did the thing she prayed she wouldn’t do.
She looked up.
There, Adrien rushed to pick up his pens, pencils, markers, and highlighters as they rolled off the table. Nino was already crouching down, grabbing the ones that fell under his chair’s legs while Alya picked up the ones that came her way.
“I didn’t know they sold ladybug stationery?” The lady-blogger grinned, twirling the pen between her painted nails. Wiggling her eyebrows at the flustered blond who try to brush off her looks with an eye roll. Hoping that if he ignores the blush that came up his face, they won’t comment on it.
“It was in a pack, Alya.” Adrien bit his lip, reaching over to snatching the pen back from Alya. Only to miss her hand completely as she pulled back her arm in the last second. Teasing Adrien with the pen, holding it out of his grasp. Tossing it to Nino when his fingers reached a little too close to the pen. The boys rough-house a minute before earning themselves another scorning from the librarian.
Over the last two years of going to public school compared to the first day he tried to sneak through the front gates, Adrien Agreste would have died on the spot if he got scorned by an authority figure other than his caregiver, well ‘care’-givers, at Françoise Dupont High School - but with time, Adrien Agreste mellowed into the new role of Adrien, the student.
Just the student.
A different persona from the one that lived at home and bloom when entering school grounds. Adrien would say that he’s more care-free and open than before as he learned how to sneak out and what buttons to press when joking with his closest friends. Like how Nino always fell for the “What’s that?” trick- no matter what or how Kagami liked puns even if she frowned or how Marinette would shot a sarcastic remark if given the chance (so Adrien tried his best to set the joke to hear Mari’s slick comments which often ending with an innocent smile before walking away).
So it wasn’t unusual for Adrien to act like this, like a teenager and not some super famous model. Just a student who was currently blushing in embarrassment due to his Ladybug stationary.
“They’re nice.”
The study group turned to the peep in the corner. Marinette swiped her thumb over the magical ladybug clip on the pen.
It felt heavy and good in her hand, it had nice weigh to it. All with a slick design that didn’t seem cheesy or cheap. It’s hard to make polka-dots work nicely, but who would know right?
“I’m more of Chat Noir fan though.” A small smile slipped out as she spun the pen in her hand one last time. Her face softens as she thought about her partner and how cute it would be to have his cartoon face on sticky notes if it didn’t add to his ego.  Marinette finally passed the pen to Adrien who unconsciously held out his hand when her hand went out to him.
“Cool,” Adrien answered. Not knowing what to say without giving himself away or boasting about the Miraculous Duo without sounding stiff or awkward.
That little moment was gone as a voice cleared the air.
“So you’re a cat stan now?”
-------
“I didn’t know you dig that type of leather, Mari?” Alya purred as she grinned a little too hard as her joke, causing her cheeks to squish the edge of her amber-colored iris. Narrowing her four eyes at her clueless friend.
“I’m not- why are you making it sound so weird?!”
“I’m not!”
“Yes. Yes, you are.” Marinette rolled her eyes before shaking her head. Quickly stepping down the stairs with the reporter on her heels. Blowing her bangs out of her eyes, reminding herself to trim them when she gets home or when she’s free by this weekend.
“And-stop looking at me like that, Alya!”
“I wasn-”
“I can feel your laser vision from here.”
“Okay, fine! I give, Mari. I can’t lie to you no more.” Throwing her arms around the designer’s neck and tugging her near. Marinette pulled her legs under her before she choked herself with Alya’s hold.
“The truth is- I’m setting you up with a superhero, but can’t unless I absolutely know that you’re into them.”
“. . . .what?”
