SUPPORT STARBUCKS UNIONS
Upton Sinclair tries to go up to the counter, but the Starbucks is closed. Starbucks fired all their workers from this location for unionizing.
Hi everyone! It’s been a while. We here at Literary Starbucks have followed the news about Starbucks workers’ fight to unionize, and we want to use the platform we have to support them and uplift their voices.
Starbucks workers across the nation have been unionizing their workplaces to ensure a more democratic, safe, and equitable environment for all employees. The first United States Starbucks to successfully unionize its workers was in Buffalo, NY, in December 2021. Since then, more Starbucks locations all over the country have voted to unionize!
Predictably, Starbucks is not thrilled about this, and has been actively union-busting. As linked above in the Upton Sinclair post, there are many examples of Starbucks closing locations that voted to unionize or firing pro-union workers, but Starbucks has gone even further. They have cut hours for pro-union employees, increased managerial presence in stores in order to monitor union activities, and, recently and abhorrently, claimed that Starbucks will support its workers who are seeking abortion services—but only if they aren’t part of a union.
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has “accused Starbucks of more than 200 labor law violations spanning over two dozen types of unfair labor practices.” In addition to being morally despicable, Starbucks’ union-busting practices are actually illegal.
Literary Starbucks supports workers’ right to unionize and stands with the Starbucks partners who are unionized and/or fighting to unionize. We condemn Starbucks’ anti-union position.
To read more about Starbucks employees’ efforts to unionize, please check out Starbucks Workers United. Headquartered in Buffalo, NY, SB Workers United boasts 180+ stores unionized already. Check out their FAQ for more information!
Here are ways you can support Starbucks workers’ unionization efforts across the USA:
Donate to the Pacific Northwest Starbucks Workers United (PNWSBWU) to, in their own words, “provide financial relief to Starbucks workers in the Pacific Northwest for income [they] lose as [they] take the collective actions needed to win the workplace [they] deserve.”
Donate to the employees of the College Ave Starbucks in Ithaca, NY, since Starbucks closed this unionized location!
Donate to Black Union Leaders in Memphis, TN, to support fired Black union leaders.
Sign the No Contract, No Coffee pledge to support the unionizing workers!
Shop the SB Workers United store! All proceeds directly support Starbucks employees.
SUPPORT STRIKERS! For example, a location in Buffalo went on strike yesterday!
Attend a local “sip-in” rally at Starbucks to support unionization efforts. Here’s an example of a call for a sip-in—check out your local Starbucks stores to see if there is one coming up near you! And make sure you tip big!
Follow SB Workers United on Instagram for the latest news and updates.
Follow SB Workers United on Twitter for the latest news and updates. We pulled most of the donation links directly from that Twitter, so that’s the best place to check to see how you can best help!
Hell, follow us on Twitter as well. We’ll be retweeting stuff from @SBWorkersUnited, @VentiSolidarity, @JortstheCat, and other pro-union accounts to help raise awareness for Starbucks employees working to unionize.
The baristas were always an essential part of the Literary Starbucks mythos. Help support the real-life heroes working in Starbucks locations across the nation today!
In solidarity,
Jill, Nora, and Wilson

What I Feel; What I Do; What I Want || Wenclair fic - Chapter 3
Description: "Frankly, all her life, she has felt separation between what she feels, what she does, and what she actually wants. Being royalty means there's often little room for opinion and desire [...]; Enid wonders how it'll feel to have her ingrained sense of duty be pitted against her unshackled curiosity. "
Six months past her 19th birthday - Enid, princess of The Kingdom of Nevermore, is allowed the chance to travel and explore the world as she sees fit. Unfortunately, it comes with a little caveat... in the form of some unwelcome company for protection. Cue Wednesday Addams, the only knight deemed worthy, and who is now Enid's personal thorn in her side.
Can they work together despite their differences? Or maybe fate has an entirely different plan for them altogether...
Pairing: Wednesday Addams / Enid Sinclair
Rating: Teens & Up

x-x-x-x-x-x
A few days have passed, and Enid finds herself on her fifth day of travelling, already feeling a million miles from the person she was at the start. Emotionally; physically – in such a short amount of time, everything feels different.
They’re in the hills now, having passed through a number of trading posts, stables, and inns. The journey has been unlike anything she’s experienced… challenging, and yet freeing and somehow easy to adapt to. Admittedly, she misses some of the luxuries of her castle home – her clothing, the magnificent kitchen and its staff, not to mention the feel of crawling into her own bed each night. These have all been replaced with the same hand-washed travel outfit, basic but homely cooking, and whatever bunk, cot, or hammock they can find.
It’s different. But she kind of likes it.
It’s helped immensely by all she’s discovering as they pass through these places. It is hard to feel hard done by when you are seeing and learning such amazing things. Mostly, it’s the stories, and the unrecorded local history; Enid’s writing hand aches at the end of each day, but still she eagerly writes on. There’s just so much the world needs to hear! Most intriguing is the myths and legends – inn patrons and stable workers recounting the versions of these stories that have been passed down to them. The most reoccurring story is generally the same, with some mysterious figure of legend stopping an evil force, therefore allowing the land of Nevermore to flourish, but with a vaguely ominous warning that the evil will return. It seems silly in some respects – ancient heroes and demonic evils - but Enid is fascinated by how such a story has come to exist within the hearts and minds of everyone. She writes down each retelling, noting the slight differences. She hopes that with some time she can tie the whole legend together into a cohesive story with explained deviances. This is the kind of thing she had been yearning for the whole time she waited for this journey.
Though perhaps the most curious part of this journey so far has been her companion. Five days in and she and Wednesday have (much to Enid’s behest) barely even begun to know each other. Admittedly, Enid has been challenging the little knight, trying to push her buttons and see what makes her tick… but she’s impossible to figure out! It is evident that Wednesday cares not for this travelling, or Enid herself in fact – yet, she continues to be endlessly dutiful. It is perplexing to say the least. Enid feels a strange fondness for Wednesday, not that she would say as much. Though, she does wish it was shared. All she can drag out of the knight at the moment is sighs, glares, and the occasional unamused comment. She just wishes there was a modicum of excitement so she could share her passion.
Alas, Wednesday seems intent on not getting any closer. It’s mildly upsetting but Enid is determined to not let it hurt her too much… she already cares too greatly for her parents approval, so vying for Wednesday’s at the same time seems a little excessive. Not that she can help herself sometimes.
Like now. She and Wednesday are travelling through a rocky pass, uphill towards the lakes and rivers that are the source of all other water in the kingdom. It is the home of the sirens, and is their first major stop! Enid is practically bursting with excitement!! Even better, along the route there are small alcoves with huge carved tablets, recounting local history and even more legends to write down.
As they travel, Enid stops them along the way. She sketches the tablets and summarises their words with an upbeat fervour. Wednesday remains on her horse, keeping a look out, seeming entirely disengaged.
Enid turns to her and waves her hand. Wednesday glances over, raising an eyebrow as if to ask ‘what do you want?’. Enid then turns back to the tablet she is copying down, tapping her quill against the page of her notebook as she thinks. Wednesday might not care but Enid’s planning to talk, regardless.
“Do you believe in the legends?” Enid asks as she scribbles down some more words. “Seems amazing that everyone knows the story… like it can’t be coincidence.”
She turns back to Wednesday, seeing now that her raised brow has returned to a scowl. Wednesday thinks the question is ridiculous, certainly. Enid doesn’t see why. Considering the number of magical creatures and beings that exist within the kingdom, people believing in ancient legends doesn’t seem too far-fetched, even if the stories themselves are pretty separated from reality… Though, perhaps she is naive to think Wednesday would have any sort of belief that isn’t rooted logic and proof. Sigh. Enid would love some common ground.
“They’re just stories.” Wednesday replies, voice devoid of emotion. Enid knows she shouldn’t be disappointed by the answer… but she kind of still is. Any kind of thought, feeling, or opinion that places Wednesday outside of the dark little box she’s placed herself into would be extremely welcome, but she remains consistently stoic and unfeeling. Even if they’ve only known each other for five days, Enid feels as though she may never get to see anything else from the knight.
Enid knows she can’t let it get to her… So she returns to her notebook; keeps excitedly writing, and smiles to herself as she thinks upon the way her father would recount the ‘stories of old’ to her as a child.
“I think there’s some truth in them.” she muses as she walks closer and presses her hand against the carved rock of the tablet monument. The stone is cold to the touch, soothing the new callouses that have grown on Enid’s hands. It feels familiar under her hand, like the stone brick the royal castle is built from. It’s oddly comforting, and in a way, reaffirms Enid’s belief. The feeling of the stone connects her to home, as the words carved upon it connect her to history. There has to be truth in them – there just has to be! And there’s only more out there to learn. They need to get to the Siren's Domain and find out more. Enid quickly finishes writing, and returns to her horse.
“You ought to have more belief.” She chides as she takes the reigns from Wednesday and climbs onto Sol.
Wednesday simply looks at her, before slowly directing Nero to continue on the trail. Enid follows soon after, taking a final glance at the carved rock as it disappears from sight upon moving uphill. From then on they travel quietly but quickly; Enid decidedly keeping her excitement at bay. Though, it is hard the hide the grin that she finds sprawling across her face as the elegance of the Siren's Domain begins to appear.
Despite this being their first major stop, Enid cannot deny this is the one she’s looked most forward to. From the crystal clear waters, to the beautifully carved stonework that creates the buildings and platforms for visitors – The Siren's Domain is a treat for the eyes. Previously she had only seen it through paintings and sketches, so watching it come into view is beyond breathtaking. Oh, she cannot wait to meet and talk with the locals.
Enid glances at Wednesday. Her expression is unchanged, locked in her permanent scowl. Typical.
They draw closer, and Enid realises now she should probably face the reality of why she’s actually here. She’s been avoiding the truth since they set off, but with the domain in sight, she has to face the reality – the very reason she was allowed this adventure in the first place. Her werewolf powers... Or, more accurately, lack thereof.
As much as she wants to ignore the whole thing and simply travel, learn, and write to her hearts’ content… she has to uphold her duty. Which means at least fulfilling all the various tasks listed to her by her parents prior to setting off. She could - of course - simply not do them, but considering Wednesday’s loyalties, she suspects that it would be hard to hide upon their eventual return to the castle. Not to mention she may still lack her ability to shift and the shame that would bring is too embarrassing to even imagine… So really, she has little choice. Fortunately this first task seems simple - she needs to locate the royal pool and partake in a ritual with the ancient waters within Which seems easy enough. The siren royalty are amicable allies, so they should be more than welcoming.
Enid and Wednesday pass a few more tablet monuments during the final stretch of the journey. A mix of excited and concerned over what’s to come, Enid lets herself write down the engraved words slower than before, giving her time to mentally chew over it. It doesn’t seem difficult, but it weighs on her nonetheless…
Wednesday, unaware of this, seems particularly impatient now. She stares at the Siren's Domain in the distance with a subtle tension in her jaw. Her hands are tight around the reigns of her horse, eyes stuck on her one focal point in the distance. Enid wishes she could know what was going through her head… but she doubts she’d get an answer even if she did ask.
Enid finishes her notes and scrambles back onto her horse. She takes a deep breath and sets herself to continue.
“Are we ready?” She asks – mostly to herself, if anything.
Wednesday looks at her, eyes narrowing slightly. Right, of course… obviously, she is ready.
Fortunately, the last of the journey is short and it takes a little over ten minutes to exit the rocky pass and cross into the lightly forested clearing that leads into the lakes, waterfalls, and rivers that make up the domain. There’s a narrow but ornate bridge built of stone above the water that leads into the centre of the lake, allowing walking visitors to easily enter. It’s all rather elegant and reminds Enid of home… Though she’s unsure if that’s a good thing.
They leave their horses at the small stables before the bridge, and then start the journey on foot into the domain itself. It’s a difficult place to describe – though, this does not stop Enid trying. She pauses about midway on the bridge, scribbling again in her notebook, making sure to exaggerate her awe at both the craftsmanship of the domain and how fascinating it is to see sirens freely swimming through the waters. It’s amazing, getting to see them in their home!
Though it would seem the sentiment is not shared. Glancing behind her, it’s hard to not notice the distaste on Wednesday’s face. Surprisingly, it is different look from her regular scowl, but not by much.
“Not a fan of the Siren’s Domain?” Enid queries.
“I don’t trust sirens.” comes Wednesday’s blunt response.
Enid rolls her eyes. “You don’t trust anyone.”
She says it in a good natured tone, but the sharpening of Wednesday’s glare tells her that she’s best to not say any more. Not that it would change anything since Wednesday has no option to follow her anyway. “But the sirens here are nice. They’re our allies.”
Wednesday seems unconvinced, but keeps any snarky comment to herself. Good, as Enid wants to focus on enjoying her time before duty calls.
They traverse the bridge, approaching the small town of stone buildings that cover an island in the middle of the lake. Each building is unique in size and shape, some partially built into existing hills, others shaped as to allow easy passage back into the water. The buildings are beautiful and sophisticated, but practical – which makes sense, sirens are known for their air of elegance and very much care about keeping up appearances. Though, it also makes sense the number of buildings is relatively small, seeing as sirens much prefer the water.
When they finally enter, Enid feels excitement flutter in her chest; her minor angst melting against its warmth. They’re here! They’re finally here!! She gets to explore and talk to the locals, and try their dishes, and sleep in one of their strange water beds. Oh there’s just so many things she wants to do!
She takes a few steps into the town, taking it all in. This is definitely more thrilling than nerve-wracking. Enid grins, turning back to Wednesday.
“Isn’t it amazing here?”
Wednesday doesn’t answer; glancing away, she shoots a suspicious look at any sirens and other townsfolk that pass them. She then pulls out something from one of the pouches on her uniform – a neatly folded paper. Opening it, she reads briefly, her brow twitching ever so slightly. Then she slots it back away. Her eyes swivel back over. Then they dart to the building in the middle of the domain… tothe building that leads underground to the fountain that houses the ancient waters. Without another word, she begins to march over.
Of course. Her parents gave Wednesday a list. Suddenly, Enid isn’t so excited any more.
“Wednesday!” Enid calls out as she follows after her. “Hey, let’s no-”
Wednesday stops and turns back, one eyebrow quirked upwards. Her head tilts slightly as if warning Enid to not test her.
Enid, however, does not appreciate this attempt to intimidate her. As knights go, Wednesday is definitely a little scary, but Enid knows better – knows they’re stuck together, and that ultimately, Wednesday can’t push her luck too far.
Enid takes a breath, then smiles.
“We’re not going to the ancient waters yet.”
A frustrated expression twitches onto Wednesday’s face, but it’s gone almost immediately. She opens her mouth, poised to release a scathing remark when-
“You must be Princess Enid.”
Enid is miraculously saved by the appearance of an unknown saviour. Turning to the doorway of the middle building, there now stands a proud looking siren with piercing pale eyes and dazzling dark skin that shimmers in the daylight. She smiles at Enid.
“And you must be-” the siren pauses upon looking at Wednesday, frowning slightly as her eyes drag up and down the knight’s form. “Wednesday, was it? The Prince Consort did send a letter.”
It dawns on Enid now who their new friend is, and whilst it is not unwelcome company, it is – to put it lightly – an inconvenient meeting. The person standing before them is Bianca. Enid recognises her from a portrait that hangs in the meeting room of the castle. She is essentially the princess of the Siren’s Domain, though, the actual siren term is different and escapes Enid’s memory. Unfortunately, with Bianca here it means she is now truly is stuck committing to the ritual, lest she wish to upset the schedule of the siren royalty… and considering their ally ties, and general etiquette, Enid very much does wish to cause an issue. The disgrace alone would measure up to the disgrace brought on by Enid not doing the ritual in the first place. Ugh. Sometimes Enid wishes there wasn’t so many rules. So much for the excitement, after all… it will have to wait. Just like all her dreams do.
Enid pulls her smile wider and does a slight curtsey.
“Bianca, heir to the siren throne,” She acknowledges. “It is a pleasure to finally meet.”
Wednesday does not curtsey despite a subtle nudge. Enid notices that Wednesday’s jaw is tensing, metaphorically chewing on those words she was unable to say.
“An honour.” She says stiffly. It seems Wednesday did not intend to speak to Bianca herself, and her distaste is as subtle as a rock through glass.
Considering her attitude, Enid doesn’t think Wednesday deserves much mercy, but she’s willing to offer it so that no one ends up on the wrong end of a blade – of which she knows Wednesday has many.
“Wednesday,” Enid chimes sweetly. “Could you get our rooms prepared at the inn? I’ll be perfectly safe with Bianca here.”
Wednesday looks at Enid; blinks once, then twice. There’s an air of suspicion in her glance, but seemingly an unwillingness to question a free reason to disengage. She nods, shuffling her sword and gear, before heading towards the inn.
Bianca watches Wednesday walk off with a tight smile.
“She seems… interesting.”
“Interesting is the right word,” Enid agrees.
“So then,” Bianca continues, clasping her hands together. “I hear you’re partaking in one of our ancient water rituals for your werewolf powers, correct?”
Enid feels her stomach tighten at the mention. It really does feel too soon… she hasn’t gotten to witness enough yet! Why can’t she just have some fun before getting down to business?!
“Yes, I’m looking forward to it.” She lies.
The conversation that follows is a whirlwind of information that Enid barely has time to process. It feels like a history lesson at first – things Enid has heard during her school studies as a child, before it leads into a more personal tale, that recounts how her family and Bianca’s came to be allies. All the while Bianca takes her on a small loop of the domain. Unfortunately, with there being no stops in this quick tour, Enid does not have even a moment to get personal enjoyment… instead, she feels ferried around and paraded; very much the opposite of what she had wanted out of all of this. It is however mercifully short, and she and Bianca end up back at the entrance of the middle building not much time later. The efficiency is almost ruthless, though it is reflective of what she expected from a high ranking siren such as Bianca. Perhaps she would respect it more if the circumstances were different.
Regardless, it seems as though the time for the water ritual to begin is soon to be upon her.
Enid smiles as much as she can, despite the way her heart falters. She knows she’ll have some time later but it certainly feels as though – even with this being her adventure – somehow her parents and her ‘duty’ still find ways to surpass her own wants.
“Well… are you ready?” Bianca asks. She extends her hand towards the doorway, inviting Enid inside.
Ah well. Better just grin and bare it. It’ll be just fine.
Enid pulls a smile onto her face.
“Of course.”
She takes one last look around before heading inside, knowing it’ll be a couple hours at the least until she emerges again. The ancient water ritual culminates in bathing, but there’s some other important steps prior – changing into the ritual clothing, some minor ‘soul opening’ magic, etc. It’s quite the process so she’s heard. Hopefully it will not be boring, at least.
As she takes one final glance around, Enid notices something. A pair of eyes trained on her. Intense; unwavering, and locked in a glare that feels like a promise… Of what, exactly? Enid isn’t sure. Protection, maybe. She cannot help feel struck by the way Wednesday watches her like a hawk, vigilant despite being told she doesn’t need to be…
How strange…
But with no time to think on it, the moment passes. Enid’s eyes pull away from Wednesday’s, and the knight is all but forgotten as Enid is lead away to fulfil her duties.

2023 Weekly Book Recs: 11/3-11/10
Tumblr media
The Master by Kresley Cole
Lothaire but make it mafia! I am a hUGE fan of the "crazy powerful man kidnaps woman and then realizes she's a nightmare" thing, and this... really DOES that. Maksim and Cat's interplay is so sharp, so hot. Yet (and this is again something I would say Kresley perfected first in Lothaire) the inherent darkness and sexuality of their dynamic is softened by like... goofy snark and little snaps of soft affection. There's a warmth between them at points that I just LOVED; and then there's a chastity belt to keep it from getting too warm. Also: features a "local romance novel hero stands in rain like bedraggled rat" moment. Which I always love. (I will note: I did not love how Kresley used random Spanish with Cat, who is Cuban. It was cringe at best, if very of its time in contemporary romance. I did love the book otherwise, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention that.)

The Player by Kresley Cole
It's so good when a series gets progressively better with each book-and the Game Maker trilogy does just that. It's the least mafia of the series, yet somehow the darkest, in large part thanks to our traumatized hero (content warning for discussions of childhood sexual abuse). But there's also like. All the things you want from this series. Ridiculous money, heroine running a long con, iNSANE sex (one of my favorite sex scenes... ever... is in this book), and absolutely bonkers moments (when he punches the car door... be still my heart). There's a real beating heart here, however, and somehow, through all his batshit behavior... Dmitri became baby? Like, I think this man is baby.

Rules for a Proper Governess by Jennifer Ashley
The Nanny But Make It Victorian. He's a hot, stern, scolding (dare I say... daddy?) single father whose lawyerly skills have earned him the nickname of The Scottish Machine (yeah he is). She's a snarky, defiant pickpocket/street urchin who accidentally ends up being his children's governess. All the workplace violations in this book were GLORIOUS. He has an oral fixation; she stalks him; there are two kids who actually aren't annoying because Jennifer Ashley knows how to use romance novel children sparingly. I was frankly gone for this book as soon as I realized that Bertie was basically going to mindfuck Sinclair into being in love with her. I mean, what more can you ask for in a governess romance?

de Vil family Headcanons revised:
Tumblr media
Trigger warnings: Child abuse, child neglect, mentions of dementia, mental health issues, unhealthy coping mechanisms, death, and animal abuse.
🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩🐩
There is an 11 year age difference between Hunter and Carlos, a 5 year one between Carlos and Ivy, and a 4 year one between him and Diego.
Hunter, Ivy, and Carlos are tech geeks in my universe and can't do anything musical to save their lives.
Diego, on the other hand, is the only musically inclined one who cannot do anything tech related to save his life.
Hunter and Ivy were born pre-isle but died trying to stop one of Cruella's plots when she found out and pursued them. Causing them to crash.
Because of their childhood Villainous activities they were resurrected and sent to the isle the year Carlos was born.
Both Antia and Roger have met Hunter and Ivy but only Ivy has met their niece, Amber.
Funnily enough, all of the de Vil cousins have four things in common—their love for animals, their tempers, their competitive nature, and their very strong passion for fashion.
They have a lot of pets that they have to play 'Keep away from Cruella' with.
Including a chicken on Hunter and Ivy's part, which is funny because their ancestor— Dimsdale—despises chickens.
They are descended from both Melione (Hades' daughter) and the Villainous princess Ivy from Sofia the first.
Hunter's full name is Hunter Claudias de Vil.
Ivy's full name is Ivana Mallory de Vil.
Diego's full name is Diego Ethan de Vil.
Carlos's full name is Carlos Oscar de Vil.
Carlos is the son of Cruella de Vil and James Charming.
Diego is the son of Cecil de Vil and an unknown woman.
Ivy is the daughter of Carmen Sandiego and Cotton de Vil.
Hunter is the son  of Helga Sinclair and Charles de Vil, making him the older half brother of Harry Badun.
Carlos's dad either got taken forcibly back to Auradon or was killed by Cruella. No one is quite sure which.
Diego's mother left him on the doorstep.
Ivy's father was a pyro noir like detective and the youngest of his many siblings, which made her a favorite of the family. Her father died in a freak fire related accident when she was 3. Carmen had no idea where she went after Ivy's father died.
Hunter's father was an artist turned Archery teacher who went by 'Archer' and died in a freak archery accident.
Hunter de Vil is dating a grown up Jim Jr (from Lady and the Tramp) and Jane's cousin, Elisa/Eliza.
Diego is dating Derek, Doug's older brother.
Carlos is dating Jane.
And Ivy is dating Gordon, son of Grumpy— and yes, they are aware of the irony.
Together (meaning them, their partners, their cousin P.H, and Cruella) they have 18 pets. Including 2 chickens, 1 ferret, 1 dove, 1 lab rat, 4 cats,  and 10 dogs (most of which are Cruella's).
Hunter is still an influencer (he was one when he was a teenager) and is also an inventor who works at the local tech repair shop and a part time mechanic.
All of the de Vil kids love chocolates but different kids.
Hunter practically lives off of coffee and energy drinks and kinder joy eggs.
Hunter is also a YouTuber.
Ivy loves oatmeal with strawberries and blackberries.
She is an inventor, a fashion designer, a salon owner who makes her own cosmetics, and a beauty pageant veteran who always saw Amber dearly (The Radcliffe's niece)  as a rival. This was one-sided.
She takes after her mother alot— she's elusive, playful, badass, etc.
Kids used to call her Evilana. Which she hated.
Diego is the lead singer and guitarist of the Bad Apples and a member of Harriet Hook's crew and the Anti-heroes' club.
He is also a tattoo artist who loves coke (the soda) and fast food.
Carlos is a tourney and ROAR member who loves video games, tech stuff, animals, and inventing. He wants to be a veterinarian or app designer.
Hunter, Ivy, and Diego helped Carlos build his treehouse when they were younger.
They all love each other very much and are very protective of one another.
Unlike Carlos, the other de Vils are actually quite fond of the Badun cousins.
Ivy loves the color pink.
Their ancestor that everyone thinks is the literal devil was actually a somewhat normal human boy who was just unfortunate enough to have been born with hooves and a tail (likely due to them also being descended from Hades’ daughter Melione and sorceress like the original Ivana de Vil—aka Princess Ivy).
For some reason, Diego is Cruella's favorite. No one knows why or how.
This is entirely one-sided; Diego despises Cruella.
Yes, Hunter and Ivy were born pre-isle.
Yes, they committed their crimes.
BUT, they were also 12 and 6, and highly abused and neglected.
And they redeemed themselves and got killed in the process in my timeline saving the puppies from one of Cruella's schemes gone wrong.
But of course, Auardon brought them back a year after Carlos was born and sent them to the isle despite the Radcliffes' protest.
Hunter was 12 and Ivy was 6, and they both cried and pleaded for mercy. Beast and Belle ignored them.
They hate them because of this.
Like their parents before them, they're close.
Unlike their parents, they didn't have a falling out and would still die for one another.
Diego is the only non-tech savvy de Vil of this generation.
But that's fine with him because he's the only one who can play any instrument.
The other 3 can't play an instrument to save their lives.
Despite the fact that Diego is a part of Harriet's crew and that Harriet is in alliance with Uma, he and Carlos are still close.
Diego is the only non disabled, sickly, or mentally ill de Vil.
All of the de Vils are into fashion.
The de Vil cousins move out of Cruella's house after Carlos goes to Auradon. They had only stayed for Carlos.
The de Vil cousins have an unspoken agreement to always look out for each other, their pets, and the badun cousins.
The de Vil cousins communicate in Morse code sometimes. Other times they communicate in sign language.
They made up their own language to communicate in as kids. The Badun cousins  are the only ones who understand it.
All of the de Vil kids have pets and take care of Cruella's pets.
They all feel guilty about the fact that they couldn't protect each other or their pets. Or the Badun cousins.
Jace and Harry used to have siblings. The rest of the isle might have forgotten this but they hadn't. They never would.
None of the four de Vil cousins will ever turn down helping the Badun cousins. No matter what.
No one talks about the missing Badun girls and boys.
No one talks about how the Badun cousins don't live with them, Cruella, and their dads anymore.
After Harry Badun turned 7, learning medical care became a priority for all of the de Vil kids. Maybe it's guilt or maybe it's a sense of obligation. No one knows.
Diego is the only one of the group who sleeps.
He's known as the only 'normal' de Vil. He's the only one who doesn't have a nasty nickname.
He's the one who keeps everyone alive which makes up for his bouts of irresponsible stupidity.
Diego is also the only de Vil sibling who can write in cursive.
Hunter is the only blonde de Vil that the cousins can remember.
This earns a lot of jokes about him being adopted.
He is never amused by them.
Ivy looks the most like Cruella. Her hair is half and half like hers, and she hates it. Hair dye doesn't work.
She's tried. Her cousins had to beg her to stop because she would break out in horrible hives when she used it and they were afraid she'd die.
Carlos is allergic to Wool.
Hunter and Diego have no allergies.
Hunter is claustrophobic and afraid of the dark  and being alone and forgotten because of his time in the crate. His younger cousins know very few details about it.
Diego's hair is the opposite of Carlos's—his hair is mostly black with a few white streaks and specks, while Carlos's hair is mostly white with dark specks
Ivy is afraid of burning alive like her dad but also addicted to the flames.
Her and Hunter are scared of dying again.
Diego, Carlos, and The Badun cousins had to sleep in their beds a lot when they were younger to calm them because of the nightmares they had.
They still do.
The 3 oldest de Vil cousins were in pure shock and mourning for days after Carlos left for Auardon. They thought they'd never see him again.
Carlos, Hunter, and Ivy go to all of Diego's concerts and like all of his videos  and buy all his albums.
He does the same for them.
They're all scared of going nuts like their elders.
They were all scared of their other relatives when they got off the isle.
Hunter never forgives Ben's parents. Never.
He and Ivy both try to pretend that they don't want to kill them both.
Everyone but Diego has had depression. Diego has just always been optimistic (and a bit angry).
Ivy is named after their ancestor, Princess Ivy.
She resents this.
Divus de Vil, or Divus Crewel—as he is now known—is a professor at Night Raven College.
He teaches the school's science curriculum, including potionology.
He, like the rest of his family, feels strongly about fashion and refuses to compromise on what he wears.
He is Cruella and Crisitan de Vil's twin brother who somehow managed to stay out of any serious legal trouble. Unlike them.
When he was younger, Divus was nicknamed 'devious'  by his fellow peers. Right around the time they started to call his sister 'Cruella' instead of Ella.
He was the favorite of his mother—meaning he was the only one who ever got attention from her.
He has no pets.
He, Cristian,  and Cruella taught their 3 younger brothers (Cyrus, Cotton, and Cecil) how to work on cars when they were all kids.
Back before Cruella and P.H became cruel, all 7 of them were rather close-knit despite their age differences.
Divus's mother named him.  His name means "divine"/"godlike" or "god". It can aldo be considered a variant of "diva", referring to a narcissistic and self-important person.
Cyrus was a teen dad at 14.
Malevola and Cruella didn't hesitate at all to yell at and belittle him for this.
He ran away a couple of years later with his son, Charles, and became a farmer.
Cyrus was a natural blonde but dyed his hair black and white in an attempt to fit in with his family.
Charles inherited it as well. They both inherited this from Oscar "Count" de Vil.
22 years later, Charles met a woman named Helga Sinclair and Hunter de Vil was born.
Oscar and Dintia de Vil are the parents of Malevola de Vil and her brother, Malice.
Of course, those aren't their real names. Only the names those who didn't understand their odd family gave them.
Oscar and Dinita would never name them those names. They were actual loving parents, thank you very much (Unlike Malevola).
Malevola and Malice are actually named Mallory and Malachai.
Malachai's unflattering nickname doesn't really fit him at all.
He may be the mastermind but Malachai isn't really eVil at all. He's actually harmless and quite kind. Unlike his nasty sister.
Oscar de Vil was rumored to be a vampire and thusly nicknamed the 'Count' because he always wore a black, hooded cloak.
And no, he isn't actually a vampire. He's just severely allergic to sunlight and has to wear a hooded cloak while outside during the day.
It's actually kinda funny/sad considering the fact that his wife, Dinita, loves the sun and taking walks.
She stopped doing it as often when she began dating him so she could spend more time with him, so it's safe to say their love was true.
Both of them were loving, confident, lively people who saw the best in everyone and loved life.
Oscar was a businessman and a doctor who was quite charitable to those around him and Dintia was an architect.
Dintia actually was the one who designed Hell Hall and the other de Vil properties.
The two of them and their kids were loved in the small community they lived in for the first 10 years of Malachai's life.
And then Dintia slowly started to forget things.
It was small things at first, like Mallory's favorite color and Malachai's favorite snack.
And then it was big things, like her anniversary and birthdays.
It only continued to spiral from there until Oscar dragged her to the doctor during the day—causing him to break into hives mind you—and got her checked out to find out what was wrong.
Not long after, they found out she had early onset dementia and Dintia started to change.
Forgetting who Oscar and even her own kids were. Not recognizing her two birds, Stormy and Sunny. Not recognizing her own pictures.
Oscar began to distance himself from his kids, throwing himself into his work in hopes of finding a way to save his weakening wife.
Dintia kept finding ways to escape the house and could often be found wandering around town, confused.
Some less than lovely people started to call her dementia instead of her actual name.
She died four years later when Malachai was 14 and Mallory was 10. And it hit everyone hard.
Oscar and Malachai both fell into a deep depression and due to the time period they were in, they received little to no help at all.
Oscar became a shut-in and rarely left his house, glaring at anyone who approached him on the rare occasions that he did.
Malachai became a shell of his former self. He stopped talking and smiling and goofing around as much, and daydreamed often of his mother never getting sick and his life never going to hell. Hardly able to accept reality.
He actually checked out for a bit—becoming emotionally detached from everyone around him—and didn't speak for years.
If his son, Philip Herbert aka P.H, hadn't been born, he would have never come out of it.
Unfortunately, while he and Oscar were emotionally dead to the world, Mallory started to change.
She became bitter and resentful and apathetic to everything that wasn't fashion. And her morals and what she saw as important slowly started to distort until she wasn't recognizable anymore.
And she was oh so hateful to anyone who wasn't her love, Dupree, who would go on to be her husband—earning her the alias Malevola.
Dupree was head over heels in love with her and blind to all her faults, which would come back to bite him later.
They'd go on to have 5 kids in this order; Cruella, Divus, Cyrus, Cecil, and Cotton.
Malevola/Mallory didn't even attempt to be a good mother. Ignoring them when she could get away with it and being out of town often.
She'd even snap at and belittle them from the moment they were born.
Cruella would go on to be a fashion designer as did Crisitan and you know the rest.
Cyrus became a teen dad and a farmer.
Cecil became a film director and willingly went to the isle for Cruella.
And Cotton became a detective and a pyro.
Cotton eventually met Carmen Sandiego, one thing led to another, and Ivana/Ivy de Vil was born.
Ivy is Malevola's favorite grandchild.
Malevola tried to make up for her parenting mistakes with Hunter and Ivy, and the other two kids, but failed.
Mainly because she played keep away with them and their mothers.
Oscar (Malevola) was a good grandfather who visited on occasion but couldn't undo the damage his daughter had done.
Dupree died before he could meet Hunter, Ivy, Diego, or Carlos.
He admitted openly on his death bed that he regretted not divorcing Malevola when their kids were young because, while he loved her, she wasn't a good person and screwed up their kids in ways that couldn't be fixed.
Most of the de Vils are mentally ill in one way or another.
Harry Badun is Hunter de Vil's younger half-brother.
Cotton died in a fiery accident he caused.
Cyrus died in a farming accident.
Charles died in a freak archery accident.
Oscar succumbed to his old age, a bitter, angry old man who the children of the Village feared.
Hunter and Ivy died in a car accident while trying to free the dalmatians from Cruella and got resurrected and sent to the isle.
Cecil died from not taking care of himself when he fell depressed upon realizing he had damned his son and that his niece and nephews would never be free of the isle.
Malachai got sick and died when P.H was very young, causing him to be taken in By Malevola and Dupree.
Due to the sudden loss of the only parental figure he had and the neglect and belittlement he suffered from Malevola, he went mad.
He was introduced to science by Divus and started to experiment on any animal he could get his hands on. It rarely ended well for the animals. But Malevola allowed it as long as her dogs and Malachai's snake weren't touched.
P.H ended up experimenting on his father's snake and it died.
Cruella helped him hide the evidence.
Malevola was devastated and never found her brother's snake, leading her to assume she lost it.
It was one of 4 times Cruella and her siblings ever saw her mother cry.
Malevola told Carlos once that he looked like her brother at his age. It was the only time she ever mentioned her brother before her death.
Anita knew all of Cruella's generation growing up. P.H always scared her.
Once when they were all little, Cruella convinced them all to try her favorite drink; ink.
They all got terribly ill from it and never did it again.
No one knows how Cruella can stand drinking that stuff.
Carlos lives a long, healthy life with his friends and Jane.
Divus was delighted to meet his niece and nephews. Along with all their partners and friends.
Horace and Jasper were friends with the de Vils and Radcliffes growing up.

I'm genuinely so obsessed with your sun of alcoritrés OC verse….. its so fascinating to me and i Love your drawing with the dragon & rider gear diagram it's so well thought-out!! The whole setting and the people seem so interesting i need to know More…….. do you have Information about the characters im obsessed
thank you!!! :^D its pretty new so its kind of underdeveloped but the main charas of the universe rn (and basically the only ones i have. like i said its new) are like
DRAGON INSTITUTE CONTEXT: unnamed officially as of right now but there is a thus-called Institute where several of the characters were born and raised as dragon riders. its very militarized and reminiscent of the irl (US) air force - riders are psychically bonded to their dragons from birth and use that link to communicate with them midair.
Farah "Spaceman" Al-Basri Glorymorn and her dragon Maiseylith - he's a Lockheed, built for high-altitude flights, hence the origin of the 'spaceman' callsign - are kind of the main pov characters of the universe? she's about 30-31, so a good handful of years younger than the other two i'm about to list, and hence she was in an age class underneath them in the institute and was around to learn about their short-lived War Hero Exploits and kind of revere/idolize both of them (well, not collar, but i'll get to that) as a result. since she is new i do not have an Entirely formed personality for her on the ground Yet but she's a bit of a smartass, kind enough but not very social/often the odd one out, is introduced as somewhat of an everyman, she's comparatively new to this whole active combat thing and wants to do good by her new boss:
Richas "Goldie" Auberon and his dragon [NOT NAMED YET FORGIVE ME] are the quintessential Golden Boy (hence the callsign) War Heros of the story at first. his moniker before i named him properly was 'heroguy' if that tells you anything about his narrative place. he's kind of a doomed-by-the-narrative servant of the war machine, but he does Eventually learn to be a better person. eventually. it takes a while. to the local public he's kind of a celebrity captain america type though. on the surface he's kind of the typical male video game protag emotionally constipated Man Guy archetype, but he's also just genuinely kind of a dick underneath it. he gets better though i promise. he used to have a vicious but one-sided childhood class rivalry with:
A. L. "Collar" Iscariot and her dragon Beowulf, deeply stoic and caustic, callsign named for the collar of scars around her neck - previous to the injuries she was called 'duck' because she cut it too close to the ground during training one too many times and they never let her live it down. farah is her "replacement", which is to say, farah is richas' right hand man, which is the place collar used to (bitterly and unwillingly; she did not like richas and did not want to be associated with him) have before she publicly deserted the Institute and left to, for her own reasons, follow:
Sinclair De Vautour and his dragon the Queen of Spades - a nighthawk, built for stealth: he was not raised in the institute, and bonded to QoS after he rescued her from a illegal trafficking/dragonfighting operation where she was in line for the ring. This was not an act of goodwill. He needed a weapon. (He did quickly grow to like QoS, though.) he is very much the Goth Evil Overlord kind of archetype: this is still in development but i think on paper he runs some kind of wide-scale company as a front for his operations; collar is his loyal second-in-command, there with him since (almost) the beginning. he is an orphan, though his dragonfire scars were given to him later on. he was forced to cannibalize his family to survive the event that killed them. he is generally very unforgiving and cruel. i would say he and collar almost have kind of a harrow/gideon dynamic going on if they were middle aged bitches instead of in their late teens and also were not in love with each other. and if gideon was a heartless cunt and 200x less goofy in nature. this makes no sense but you gotta trust me on it man
there is also "Lovelace", real name unknown, who is sinclair's... uh... side piece? literally do not know how else to explain it. he hired her under the guise of being his girltoy but she's actually there to do insane hacker work for him. whether they also have sex or not is irrelevant. she is wanted by the state government and has served significant time in prison for past cybercrimes. she does not have her own dragon but occasionally co-opts QoH by bribing her with food and/or baubles if she needs to go anywhere on dragonback.
like i said in there this verse is very new so there are a lot of missing or temporary details to all of this but i AM slowly chipping at it 👍 my time is currently being absorbed by namowrimo but ill get back in there eventually! dragon rider ocs are my passion 4ever

Happy Birthday Bill Forsyth the Scottish film director and screenwriter.
Born in Glasgow July 29th 1946 and educated at Knightswood School. On leaving aged 17, he answered an advertisement for a “Lad required for film company” and spent the next eight years helping make short documentary films.
Leaving documentary production in 1977, Forsyth wrote the scripts for Gregory’s Girl and That Sinking Feeling in the hope of breaking into feature films.
Obtaining finance, however, proved frustrating and problematic. The BFI Production Board rejected Gregory’s Girl three times. Forsyth later said, “I remember one torment of a meeting when I tried to explain that Gregory’s Girl was really a structuralist comedy… I suspect my script was too conventional although nobody actually told me as much.”.
That Sinking Feeling was eventually made in 1979 with amateur actors from the Glasgow Youth Theatre, including John Gordon Sinclair (who later took the lead in Gregory’s Girl , its tiny £5,000 budget was raised from a variety of sources.
Forsyth’s distinctive voice as writer-director is already apparent in this tale of a robbery of stainless steel sinks by a gang of unemployed Glasgow teenagers - intensely humanistic and humorous yet with an underlying seriousness of purpose. This ability to create a self-contained yet believable world with a keen sense of the absurd and bizarre in the everyday is perhaps only rivalled by the work of British television writer Alan Plater. The film opened to great popular and critical success at the Edinburgh and London Film Festivals but was unable to secure more widespread distribution.
Gregory’s Girl was Forsyth’s breakthrough film. This acutely observed story of adolescence and first love set in a Scottish new town was rapturously received by both critics and public alike. Forsyth’s reputation seemed to be secured by the success of his next venture, Local Hero, a first collaboration with producer David Puttnam.
In 1999 he made Gregory’s Two Girls as a sequel to Gregory’s Girl, with John Gordon Sinclair playing the same character, but it received mixed reviews.
Gregory's Girl, to me, is still a very funny film, but it feels dated, that's not to say that it hasn't stood the test of time with some folk, indeed The Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) will show a 4k version of the 1980 cult classic on August 17th, which will be followed by a Q&A session with some of the cast including Gordon Sinclair(Gregory), Clare Grogan, tickets go on sale this Monday (31s) at 12 noon.
Last year the popular Scottish actor Peter Capaldi where he spoke of how Bill Forsyth saved him from living off pakora and lager after starring him in Scottish cult classic Local Hero. The Doctor Who and The Thick Of It star praised the Scots film director in an acceptance speech after receiving the Bafta Scotland Award for Outstanding Contribution to Film & Television on Sunday.
I love Capaldi's affection for our country, speaking to the audience while holding his Bafta, Capaldi said the award was “for getting lucky, and for being lucky enough to be born in Scotland”.
He said: “Forty years ago I was just up here (in Glasgow) as an art student, living off pakora and lager for breakfast.
“Bill Forsyth scooped me up and put me in Local Hero.
“It was an act of kindness and confidence that baffled me and much of the industry to this day, but I wouldn’t be here without him and nor would a lot of others.”
Capaldi landed this breakthrough film role aged 24 playing Danny Oldsen, a naive young oil industry executive, in the film.

Who Are Scarlett Meadows Bandits?
TRAIN ROBBERY CONFOUNDS LAWMEN. WAGON BLOCKED TRAIN. OFFICIALS CALL FOR ACTION.
Gertrude Bambach was knitting a hat for her niece when the train lurched to a stop and shouting commenced. “I fear for my life,” she said. Passengers were subjected to a terrifying ordeal as the train was robbed near the Lemoyne border. Outlaws used an oil wagon on the tracks to cause the train to come to a stop. They then threatened the passengers to give up their belongings. It was then that lawmen, having been tipped off to the robbery, arrived on the scene and confronted the outlaws.
Sheriff Thomkins was one of those lawmen who arrived on the scene. “There is very little to tell. We are searching for evidence at this time. The passengers are in great distress. The supply cars have been looted. Men are dead. This region’s problems with lawlessness have returned.”
Reports indicate the outlaws escaped after having engaged in a furious gun battle with the lawmen.

President Congratulates America
SAYS U.S. IS UNSTOPPABLE. SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR OUTCOME CELEBRATED. VICTORY IN 100 DAYS.
President Alfred MacAlister congratulated the American people and their response to the call to arms as North and South joined together to defeat Spain, saying that Spain is no longer a power, and the United States stands as the strongest nation in the western hemisphere. The “splendid little war” saw the U.S. Navy defeat the Spanish fleet in a mere few hours. Not one American life was lost in that skirmish, proving what MacAlister says is “testament to the glory and perseverance of America.”
Overall only 300 Americans lost their lives in the war, while the other side reported thousands of dead at the hands of our brave boys. He especially made mention of Colonel Thaddeus Waxman and his Rough Riders, the cavalry troop that took San Juan Hill in Guarma, becoming a national hero in the process.

Evidence of Ancient Mystery Discovered
LOCAL MAN FINDS ROCK CARVINGS. CHURCH OFFICIALS DENOUNCE CLAIM.
Ministers gathered last week to denounce the claims of eccentric resident Francis Sinclair of Big Valley, West Elizabeth, who asserts he has found evidence of ancient peoples in local rock formations. He has discovered several mysterious rock carvings around the country and claim they point to a great meaning, a mystery he intends to solve.
Religious leaders have grown concerned with his work, worrying that others will get caught up in his fervor and heretical beliefs. "There is only one meaning and message, and that is the message of the Good Book," Reverend Sterling Morton stated during the gathering.

Mexican Desperados Bring Terror
GRIZZLIES UNDER SIEGE. BOLDNESS OF FLACO'S GANG WORRIES LAW.
Some of the most desperate bandits in the region are imposing a reign of terror on the Grizzlies and surrounding country. Led by famous gunslinger, outlaw and robber, Flaco Hernández, a gang of thieves has raided numerous local towns, including Strawberry and Valentine. In one daring but ultimately fruitless train robbery, the safe and strong boxes were blown to atoms.
Frightened passengers were held hostage though not, mercifully, molested. Reverend Eunice Garrand has called for the expulsion of what he calls "all men of Mexican ancestry as they bring villainy and wanton crime to our great country.

Murderer on Loose
WAS HEADED TO PRISON. AMBUSH FREES OUTLAW. MEMBER OF VAN DER LINDE GANG. HOT CHASE FOR FUGITIVES.
Sean MacGuire, a member of the notorious Dutch van der Linde's gang, has escaped from custody. MacGuire was captured and in the process of being transported from Blackwater to a federal prison in the west. he is a part of Van der Linde's gang who were responsible for the recent Blackwater boat robbery that left many dead.
The shootout was fierce and several men were killed as a result. Bounty hunters had caught MacGuire but were ambushed on a stretch of the Upper Montana River by confederates of the accused. Upon relating the circumstances of the escape, one lawmen on the scene said that MacGuire repeatedly expressed the idea of jail as no terror to him, nor the idea of death by hangman's noose.
MacGuire even once suggested to a sheriff that his rope wasn't stout enough and may break under his weight. Officials have called for action, saying the escape is yet another example of the inability of police to keep criminals incarcerated.

Cornwall Expansion Continues
FROM COMMODITIES TO THE CARIBBEAN. REQUESTS GOVERNMENT PROTECTION. CITES ROBBERIES.
Leviticus Cornwall is a well-known expansionist. "A railroad into every expanse of this country is only a matter of time," he declared when launching the Cornwall Southern & Eastern Railways. He builds the trains, and uses them to ship goods for Cornwall Freight & Commodities, Cornwall Kerosene & Tar and his other business concerns. His sugar business reaches into the Caribbean, and not a week goes by without a ship ferrying Cornwall Sugar calling into America.
He is now calling for government support to bring protection to industries working to improve conditions in the west, after a string of robberies. Mr. Cornwall, who has been known to speak glibly about the evil effects of education upon certain kinds of lesser intellects, is one of the wealthiest men in the region, and requires numerous private guards to protect his person and multiple concerns.
Despite questionable accounts of poor conditions at plantations run by Cornwall employees, his goods flow throughout much of the United States, and Congress has so far shown little appetite for breaking up what many people call a regional monopoly of services. Alongside his private militia, he is believed to be one of the principal clients of the Pinkerton Agency in the region.

Cigarette Cards Give Fame to Murderers
NEW EDITION FROM FALCON CLAW DRAWS PROTEST. ANTICIGARETTE LEAGUE WARNS CARD SPREADS HABIT TO YOUTH.
For many a year, man and boy alike have delighted in all manner of collectible cards included in pouches, packets and tins of tobacco. But a new set from Falcon Claw tobacco that celebrates famous gunslingers and outlaws have drawn the ire of Puritan groups. The cards honor gunslingers such as Black Belle, Jim "Boy" Calloway and even Emmet Granger, a known sadistic killer who has in recent years turned to hog fancying.
The Butcher Brothers, who ran afoul of legendary gunslinger Landon Ricketts, are also featured. Mexican desperado Flaco Hernandez graces one card. "When the likes of Frank Heck, The Otis Miller Boys, or the coward Billy Midnight who shot many men in the back are celebrated in this way, it spreads the contaminating influences and effects of the cigarette habit," said Miss Hattie Beardsley of the Anticigarette League. Stores report that the tobacco has been selling well.

Death Lurks in the Dust
SCARLET FEVER RAGES IN ARMADILLO. SHOCKING CONDITIONS IN THE CITY.
Scarlet fever exists in this town to an extent that has never been seen before, believed to be due to bad sanitation, though one health official claims it is exacerbated by the high winds and dust storms plaguing the country. The spread of zymotic diseases has raised great fears. Many households are under quarantine and those who can are fleeing in droves.
Sanitary conditions in the town are deplorable and the mortality rate is so high that residents have taken to burning bodies. Between the dust storms killing crops and causing starvation and the scarlet fever epidemic, some say Armadillo feels like a cursed town. Travelers are advised to avoid the area.

Exclusion Act Upheld
IMMIGRANTS MUST STAY OUT, SAYS PRESIDENT. ASKS TO MAKE LAW EVICTING IMMIGRANTS PERMANENT. FOREIGN WORKERS HARMFUL TO WAGES, ECONOMY.
The Chinese Exclusion act, passed into Federal Law in 1882, has been renewed. The law prohibits all further immigration of Chinese laborers, saying they have a detrimental effect on the US economy and are being used by industrialists to undercut labor and keep wages low for everybody. Proponents of the regulation also argue that the Chinese have committed acts of violence upon Americans and will never integrate properly into our society.
States such as California have set up their own restrictions and some are calling for mandatory repatriation of all Chinese workers already here. Many Chinese are faced with the decision to stay in the United States or return to China to be with their families, whom they may never again see in their lifetime due to the ban on immigration.

Machine Kills Man
FIRST RECORDED DEATH BY PETROL DRIVEN VEHICLE.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Eberhardt were heading from Boston to San Francisco by vehicle Thursday and met a terrible accident as hundreds waited hours in the streets for their arrival in Stamford, Connecticut, to see an automobile for the first time. The couple was taking a much celebrated drive across the United States, seldom accomplished, as onlookers in each town stopped to see a horseless carriage with their very own eyes.
According to officials, the roads have been in a terrible state since the rains, and the wheel and its spokes abruptly shattered, causing the automobile to fly into a ravine, flinging Mr. Eberhardt out and in front of the vehicle and breaking his neck.

Come See Strawberry! *
NEW MAYOR LAUNCHES TOURISM EFFORT.
This quiet, pretty logging town nestled in the mountains is seeing a lot of change recently. Since the arrival of its new mayor Nicholas Timmins, talk is all about his efforts to turn Strawberry into a first class tourist destination for well-heeled travelers from across the country.
Originally from the east coast, Timmins says the timber town is poised to become a cultural beacon, an 'Adirondacks of the West,' drawing pleasure seekers to come enjoy the local sights and sounds, and bask in nature's infinite glory. Some locals have been lukewarm to his plans, saying that tourism is a highly seasonal endeavor that results in low-paying jobs, expensive housing for locals, and rude, demanding tourists.

A Tale of Two Robberies
HIGHWAYMEN CLASH AT COACH HOLDUP
Two separate bands of highwaymen had their sights on the same banking stagecoach north of Strawberry in Big Valley. The driver called out "it's a hold up!" and the guard could see four masked men outside. During the encounter, a separate band of highwaymen arrived and exchanged gunfire. Sheriff deputies arrived on the scene several hours later and found looted bodies in a stretch of the Dakota River.
The dead are believed to be members of the notorious O'Driscoll Boys, who have been lying around the area in recent weeks and responsible for robberies of banking and mail shipments.

SNAKE OIL SALESMAN POISONED MANY.
When Fannie Crenshaw suffered from rheumatism, she looked to Benedict Allbright to ease her suffering. He told her that the fatty streak of flesh around the vertebrae of reptiles will cure any case of rheumatic issue. Showing her a long list of certificates from happy patients he had cured, she borrowed money from the bank and purchased several bottles.
Miss Crenshaw is now one of many people who have been poisoned by Allbright's so called miracle cures. Tales have poured in after each town he visited - with purchasers feeling sickly and, usually, far worse than their original condition they sought to cure.
Allbright was finally captured and brought into the Office of Valentine's Sheriff by a bounty hunter who is rumored to be a family member or friend of someone poisoned by Allbright's hideous concoctions.

The Art of Angling by Jeremy Gill
BULLHEAD CATFISH
My writings on angling continue to attract fresh young neophytes, eager to begin life’s journey of standing in solitude, holding a pole in silence, free from the berating of the fairer sex. Indeed, I have even taught more than one U.S. President to fish, especially catfish, for luring bottom feeders into a pernicious situation that benefits the well-heeled is a prerequisite for successful politicians, almost as much as it is a prerequisite for any wise husband.
Catfish respond to handmade lures, crayfish and worms. Try all three when attempting to land this simply wonderful and much maligned fish. They also need to be coaxed, not bullied. There are fantastic Bullhead Catfish near Sisika Island. If you see me angling for Bullhead, please do come say hello and ask for an autograph. Unlike the fish, I promise I won’t bite.

Antho Nabet is an eclectic Dj and selector based in the south of France. His musical background covers a large prism from balearic storytellings to ambient landscapes.
Nabet started getting interested in music, mainly electronic, in the early 00’s at the very beginning of the internet era. Discovering new sounds and artists unfamiliar of the traditional radio stations was quite a thing. His musical sensibility evolved over the years by the different encounters he had in France and overseas : working for one of the most important French radio host in electronic music at the time, Didier Sinclair (Radio FG), hanging out with his Marseille neighbor Flo passionate of Club House culture (today known as Hugel), building fellowship with the Dark Disco sicarios of the 10s during his one year living in Mexico (Iñigo Vontier and Dan Solo), … So many different knowledges, cultures and visions which inspired him and made him grow over the years.
But.. Discovering is cool, sharing is amazing!
As the .mp3 collection was growing on Antho’s laptop, the will to share the finds with friends was increasing… so as no surprise, let’s start Djing! He started by playing electro records at friends house party during his stay in Mexico. (Hopefully no sets from this era were recorded!)
Back in France, one night he landed by chance in a dark tiny bar with red lights and tasty Nu Disco and Slow Techno sounds… then started a love story with La dame Noir crew. Phred Noir offered him the opportunity to play an all night long set. No memories from this very first night (too much pressure? Fuck yes!). But since then the journey can’t stop!
Gig after gig he learned how to warm up a dance floor by opening sets for local heroes Phred, Relatif Yann, Did Virgo, Paul Virgo, Fred Berthed, Amevicious and international cats Alvaro Cabana, Man Power, Pete Herbert, Eddie C, …
After visiting Ibiza for the first time in 2016, Antho became less dark and opened his mind to something more eclectic, cheesy, solar and unconventional … can we call it Balearic?
At the same time he started a new residency at Le Bar des Pécheurs, in Marseille, where he brought the hedonistic spirit of the Island by playing songs from Bananarama, Jex Opolis, Santa Esmeralda, Nu Genea, Debbie Jacobs, Roman Flügel,…
Summer 2022 he played Pikes Hotel in Ibiza, by the pool with Camilo Miranda after a madness night at Harvey’s Mercury Rising party.
Today, as a young dad, Antho stay focus on sharing music via his Daddy’s Music Room Mix serie where jazz, ambient, fusion, synth pop and many other genres are explored during one hour sessions. He’s now less present on the dancefloor and more involved in new hybrid projects as building an experiences with chief or landscapes.

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
March 27th - Wolfsbane
Rahne Sinclair was born in the North Highlands of Ullapool, Scotland.  She was the product of a secret affair between the local minister and a prostitute.  Rahne's mother died in childbirth and her father raised her as though she were an orphan, not revealing to her nor the community that she was actually his biological daughter.  As a product of his feelings of guilt, Rahne’s father raised her under a staunch religious moral code and this would have a profound effect on Rahne and her outlook on the world.
Rahne is a Mutant, possessing the X-Gene that can bestow special powers.  In Rahne's case, she gained the ability of lycanthropy, the ability to shape shift into either a wolf or a wolf/human hybrid.  In her werewolf form, Rahne possesses greatly enhanced strength, speed and endurance.  This Mutant ability manifested in Rahne’s middle adolescence and, at first, she experienced difficulty controlling her transformative powers.  This led to her being mistaken as a monster and chased by a mob of villagers led by her father.  Fortunately, Rahne was saved by Dr. Moira MacTaggert who brought the young woman to America where she was enrolled in Charles Xavier’s school for Gifted Youngsters.
Taking on the alias of ‘Wolfsbane,’ Rahne went on to become one of Xavier’s New Mutants, training to potentially matriculate into the next generation of The Uncanny X-Men.  She initially struggled in adjusting to her new home but quickly became close friends with her fellow students, especially Daniel Monster (Mirage) and Sam Guthrie (Cannonball).
Wolfsbane would go on to have numerous adventures as a member of The New Mutants.  A later mission resulted in her being trapped in her werewolf form unable to transform back into her original physical appearance.  Soon thereafter, Wolfsbane joined a new iteration of X-Factor and, with the aide of her friends, was finally able to regain the ability to return to her human-looking form.  During her time with X-Factor, Rahne became close friends with her teammates, Strong Guy and Madrox, and experienced difficulties with her unrequited crush on the team’s leader, Havok.
Rahne eventually left X-Factor and relocated to Muir Island where she assisted Dr. MacTaggert in searching for a cure for the Mutant killing disease known as The Legacy Virus.  She later became an instructor at the Xavier School where she was involved in an elicit affair with her charismatic student, Elixir.
Meanwhile, Rahne's father had become a devout follower and lieutenant in Reverend Stryker’s militant anti-Mutant faction known as The Purifiers.  This ultimately led to a bloody confrontation where Rahne was forced to kill her own father.  Convalescing from the traumatic ordeal,  Rahne encountered Hrimhari, the Wolf-Prince of Asgard.  The two fell in love and ended up having a child together.  Their half Mutant/half Asgardian son, whom she named Tier, possessed many of the same powers as his parents.  Rahne was wounded in action during her pregnancy and Hrimhari ended up bargaining away his own life to the death goddess, Hela, in exchange for saving Rahne a their unborn son.
The infant Tier ended up in the care of Jack Russell, the hero known as Werewolf by Night, as Rahne continued to recover from the tremendous physical and emotional traumas she had endured.  A future version of Tier would end up embroiled in large scale battle with a group of extra dimensional beings known as The Hell Lords.  Tier ended up perishing in this battle, further compounding Rahne’s feelings of despair.
A despondent Rahne rededicated herself to being an X-Men, becoming a part of Cyclops’ New Tian strike-strike team.  She was murdered not long thereafter by a group of bigots who attacked her upon learning that she was a Mutant.
Rahne was later resurrected on the Isle of Krakoa and has continued working with her old friend, Dani Moonstar, in an effort to better cope with her pain and past hardships.
A version of Woodbine appeared in the Fox Film's movie, The New Mutants, portrayed by actress Maisie Williams.  The heroine first appeared in Marvel Graphic Novel #4 (1982).

Who I Am
hey lovelies! so this is part 2 to my past prompt during poppy weekend a couple weeks ago. i'm not completely sure if this'll be a series but i got really excited to write some more poppy content HAHAHAHA so here we go! a lot of the content does involve a lot of greek mythology and it's lore. i'm sort of a nerd for that kind of stuff so i know some of it. Aphrodite : Goddess of Beauty and caused the Trojan War because of stealing Helen of Troy away for another man to marry Artemis : Goddess of the Hunt and is described as not being interested in relationships and would much rather tend to hunting Eros : Son of Aphrodite and God of Love. He's also known in pop culture as Cupid poppy min sinclair (jeon somi faceclaim) x goddess!mc (bea hughes) disclaimer/s : insults and a lot of cursing, in very queen b fashion
Tumblr media
Two whole weeks passed since a blonde stranger washed up from the middle of the ocean only to be saved by the island’s local hero, Bea Hughes. A woman who almost two years ago was in the exact same place and situation.
While you wanted to believe it was a happy coincidence, you couldn't shake the idea that it felt almost deliberate. So despite all of the pleading and the bribes from both Zoey and Kingsley, you refused to see Poppy.
You could sense that it would only lead to disaster.
Avoiding her was harder than expected though. Other than it being a small island, she was always getting herself into trouble. Snapping at the local vendors and bullying the other women in the village among other things. Plus the fact that when she did see you, she wore a shit-eating smirk, knowing that she had a strong effect on you.
And there may have been times when you caught her in the middle of the street and you may have lost control once...or twice...or almost every single time you've run into each other. And it wasn't long until you got caught by an unsuspecting Zoey walking into your bedroom with the intent of asking you for her clothes.
"I don't think I've ever seen you around with anyone, why her of all people, Bea?" Zoey asked amused while you ran a hand through your hair, trying to get them to fall back into place naturally. Suddenly, Poppy slung in front of you to fix your hair instead.
Your friend quirked an amused brow at the lovestruck look that sat over your features as you stared at the blonde. "I'm heading off, corn husker." She said, her tone sweet. The only time Zoey'd ever heard it so delicate making her eyes go wide.
You grinned teasingly before pulling her into you, forcing her lips onto yours. Pulling her lip back roughly before you stared into her blown out eyes, grin still on your face. "Keep out of trouble, Pop." With a small slap on her ass, she squeaked before strutting away, hips swaying just for you.
While you were entrapped by the blonde walking away, you felt a sharp smack on the back of your head. "Um ow, Zoey!" You groaned softly before rubbing the back of your head to which she rolled her eyes. "I'm sure it barely hurt. And what was that with Psyche wannabe?"
You chuckled softly before entering the room to hand Zoey her clothes when she turned you to face her. Her face stern but you still couldn't help but chuckle softly, she was just being dramatic.
"As your best friend AND guide, I have to remind you that this is likely your mother and her influence. Wouldn't be the first time in history she'd do something like this." You paused, breath caught in your lungs. You stared at your friend before looking out to the sky. Resentment and sadness filling your chest at the thought of her.
Zoey heard you release a soft sigh before she offered you a small smile. "I'm sorry, Bea. But you know how it works." With a reassuring squeeze, Zoey was out of your room, clothes forgotten. You stared thoughtfully at your hands, thinking of the way it felt when Poppy pulled you close. Memories of the past few weeks flooding your senses.
You knew that she was a less than ideal person, but there was something about the mischievous glint in her eyes, the sharpness of her words, and the softness she saved just for you. Your body warmed at the thought of her. The moment you felt yourself smile despite yourself, you shook your head violently.
Again, your eyes raised to the skies before rage overtook your body and you jolted up. You quickly grabbed your bow and arrow, eyes still glued to the sky, intentions clear. "Game on, mother." You taunted before rushing out the door.
In the middle of town, Poppy was still strolling under the moonlight. A giddy smile over her lips. Of course you two were caught but honestly she didn't mind, she was still tingling from your last meeting. While she still thought it was absurd to feel so much for you in the span of fourteen days, she still couldn't help it. You challenged her so fiercely, even when you don't want to.
It all felt so pure and real to Poppy. And it made the rage that sat in the bottom of her stomach subdue a little.
While she swam in the idea of your smile in her head, thinking of the way your skin glowed under the sun. A dreamy sigh fell from her lips when her eye caught your familiar figure running through the abandoned streets of the town and into the woods. Poppy raised a brow, curious about where exactly you were going.
Though was against Poppy's better judgement, but she couldn't help but be curious, more concerned but she'd never admit it to your face.
It was dark and she could barely chase after you without making a sound. Nonetheless though, she was able to stay a distance away from you without catching your attention.
The blonde watched you, eyes attentively moving from side to side. Like you were looking for something. Then, a flash of white caught the young woman's eye. It caught your attention as well, then you closed one of her eyes, you moved her aim to the sudden intruder. The bow and arrow in your hands new to Poppy, her brown eyes grew wide. Loosing the arrow just atop a pure white swan's head. However, it didn't flinch at the attack.
The blonde stared back in surprise. It was no secret that you were hiding something but if what she'd seen would add up, then that meant that...
"You don't have to hide, mother. No one's around." You said, lowering the bow and arrow you had in your hands. The blonde's brown eyes blew open as she watched you stare at the swan transforming into a beautiful woman so nonchalantly.
The woman whipped her blonde hair back, she had mature features, an hourglass figure and she was one of the most beautiful women that Poppy had ever seen, almost rivalling that of your own beauty, which she will openly deny. The older woman's eyebrow quirked up as she eyed you with a little disdain.
"Advocating for Artemis now, Beatrice? Maybe that would explain the apathy in beauty and romance." The woman pouted before walking up daintily to you. "You aren't even wearing the clothes I sent you, I hear there's a new gorgeous woman on the island. One you haven't rejected yet."
You rolled your eyes and crossed your arms, an irritated grin on your face. Poppy could see that you were practically steaming with anger, she couldn't help but find it incredibly attractive. She took note to piss you off a little next time.
She shook off the arousal she felt from seeing your agitated state and returned to the shock before her. You, the mysterious hero of the island of Kythera, with unnaturally attractive features, the body of an Adonis, and the appeal that would make any girl swoon, were the child of the goddess of beauty herself, Aphrodite.
"What kingdom did you strip of a princess that you brought that gorgeous, pampered, pompous bitch from?" A hearty yet dainty laugh fell from the deity's lips making your blood boil with rage. In a hushed scream you said, "You're laughing at a time like this? Mother, you could start another war by acting so irrationally!"
The light blue sky suddenly turned dark as stars got lost in the clouds, the amused smile on your mother's lips fell as you stared at her, eyes still hard. "I never forced you to save that mortal. I never told you to take her in and to take care of her." As she took one step forward, you took one backwards, she was a goddess after all. "And most of all, I, nor did Eros, lead you to kiss her." Your mother smirked and placed a finger over her lips, as if she were thinking. "Not just once either, dearest. You kissed her quite a number of times."
Your face erupted into a blush and you crossed your arms. "That doesn't mean anything." You muttered, hiding your face from the omnipotent being. Aphrodite grinned softly before humming mindlessly, wordlessly teasing you.
You grinned helplessly, really there was no use denying anything. The blonde's heart couldn't handle the twists and turns in this conversation, but her blood rushed to her cheeks as you asked, "Mother, the woman...Poppy...is she...did you...?"
Your mother quirked a brow, her lips forming a surprised "o" shape. You raised your eyes, shyly moving from side to side."She's a the daughter of a man of trade in Aethiopia I wiped clean of all her memories. She's not my creation." You nodded solemnly.
Quickly, you turned a heel in attempts to hide the flush growing on your face, the leaves under your feet crunching as you walked away from the glowing deity. "I am taking her back to her family." You muttered sternly.
Your mother's form began to human fade slowly as she said, "You have my, and the Olympians' favor, Beatrice. As you always have." With that she was gone.
You took a deep breath before dropping the bow and arrow in your hands. Eyes closed as you took in the night air, Poppy noted how you looked rather peaceful after that discussion. "If you're going to sneak up on someone and eavesdrop on their conversation, you should breathe softer." You called out suddenly, cracking an eye open.
The blonde yelped before you chuckled softly and walked over to her. Poppy emerged from her hiding spot. "If you knew I was there why the in Hades didn't you—hmph!" You pulled her in by the waist laughing against her lips as she hit your shoulder dozens of times with her little fists.
"It's not like you have light feet, Pop. I could hear you a mile away." You said, snark dripping from your voice. The blonde scoffed and shoved your shoulder. "As for why...I guess I didn't want to hide anything from you anymore." You said while leaning down to peck her lips again.
Poppy bit back a smile before masking it with a cocky smirk. "So I've been hooking up with a goddess, huh? Explains why I keep coming back." You burst out in laughter before pinning her up against a tree as she bit her lip in anticipation.
"I'm going to have to take you home, you beautiful creature." You said, half as a come on, half as a statement of fact. Poppy simply rolled her eyes and pulled you closer by your chin. Her lips a breath away from yours.
"I'll go to the ends of the world with you, Goddess Bea."
here yall go! since i didn't want to leave it on a weird note, part three coming soon. like all greek myths though, i'll likely let this end in tragedy AHAHAHAH jkjk we'll see how this plays out. but yes! confirmation that you are in fact a goddess in this. while traditionally, mortals would never treat goddesses the way poppy did without getting yeeted into the ocean but this is bea and poppy we're talking about. they're relationship is loving with an edge. anyway, i will be coming back vv soon! esp since it's rosé day when i'm posting this. but expect part 3 of this and some more surprises on their way! keep safe my lovelies and i will see you all soon! bye 💓 - r

Happy 76th Birthday Bill Forsyth the Scottish film director and screenwriter.
