Which boxes would you recommend the most? I'm considering cancelling fairyloot honestly. (I have also subscribed to rainbow crate and I love it, but it's a book only subscription)
Oooh what a question!
The short answer is OwlCrate and Illumicrate.
The exclusive books are usually better in Illumicrate, and there's a bit more variety in the book choices, as they can be fantasy or sci-fi. They're normally YA, but occasionally you get an Adult book. The items are usually high quality. I especially like the ceramic items which are fairly common with Illumicrate. The book pots are a classic, but I've also had mugs, teapots, bowls, plates.
OwlCrate's books aren't normally as impressive (although there have been some notable exceptions), but the items are a bit more varied. The books are always fantasy, and always YA, so you definitely know what you're signing up for. The items can be hit and miss (but probably more hit than miss), and they love doing collections. OwlCrate also do really fantastic limited edition boxes that are totally worth looking into. The downside is that they only have a US fulfilment centre, so shipping can be pricey if you live elsewhere.
I have to say, I personally hated the Rainbow Crate subscription! The items (back when they did them) were terrible. But also, I find it so odd that you can get absolutely any genre or age range in this box!! That said, their non-subscription exclusive editions are so, so good! I love that they do fancy editions of self-published books, and will definitely keep buying those!
I've also tried Obsidian Moon Crate, and FaeCrate. Obsidian Moon Crate is a really nice idea, featuring less popular fandoms, but it's super expensive for quite a low-quality box. FaeCrate is the worst book subscription going, and they basically just rip people off for as much money as possible, while providing as little as they can in return. Do not order from FaeCrate, you will regret it!
I've tried a few one-off items from LitJoy, which are good quality but very expensive. But I'd never consider subscribing to their boxes, because, despite claiming to support trans people, they don't back this up with their actions - they continue to feature HP very regularly in their boxes.
Other than that, I've only tried book-only subscriptions. I didn't stick with FairyLoot Adult for very long. I wasn't inspired by any of the book choices, and I really do like getting the items, so it didn't seem like very good value for money. Book-only isn't for me. I'm subscribed to Evernight at the moment, which is Illumicrate's horror subscription. It's quarterly, which is better for me, but I still won't stick with it much longer. I haven't tried the OwlCrate Adult option.
I'm always looking for more book subscriptions to try out, so if there are any notable companies I've missed, someone let me know, so I can try them!

I still think the discussions over Wylan’s haircolor in the books vs the show is so funny. That guy hasn’t had a consistent haircolor for years

Happy New Year and happy Stolen Heir release day! What a perfect day to drop this new artwork featuring Jude and Cardan!
LitJoy Crate announced a new bookshelf alley design as part of their recent Holly Black The Cruel Prince collection.
This is directly inspired by the deleted scene Holly sent out via her newsletter after the release of The Queen of Nothing. It's an extended QoN epilogue, time-wise, and one that I've received many, many requests to make fanart for! I'm so happy we were able to use it for this piece. Lots of little details from the scene, and the glowing fireflies work perfectly for this item!
The one thing I made an epic-long essay to include were the foxgloves (like, there was no resistance from LJ or Holly to this, I just was drunk on symbolic excitement and argued to a brick wall about why they should be included). Take a few minutes to look up the meaning behind foxgloves (previously known as fairy’s gloves). My favorite point being that they are both poisonous and used in heart therapy (SICKNESS AND THE CURE, HELLO.) They only appear a scant few times in TFOTA, but it's a perfect motif for the series.
Go check out LitJoy Crate’s instagram post for all the details! Thank you so much to LitJoy Crate for the use of the product photos!
Diving into TSH audiobook tonight! More art to come, until then, happy reading!

A few of the experimental sketches of Cardan Greenbriar, from 'The Cruel Prince' by Holly Black for LitJoy Crate.
They asked me to illustrate the tense scene where Jude holds a knife to Cardan's throat and reverses their positions of power. I hoped to capture something of his emotions at that time: drunken disdain shot through with a growing genuine fear, and yet over everything a sort of reckless despair.
I also had to figure out what to do with a character who's described as wearing fabulous makeup, a crown, *and* a mask - so the mask ended up in his hand. And then I had to pinch myself that I was officially being asked to draw a faerie prince with cheekbones forever by one of my favourite authors, bloody hell.
Sketches are in pastel on paper.

hi lyn
(ask game here)
23. what book to movie adaptation do you love?
not a movie but the lizzie bennet diaries my beloved. it's so good, and i love how they translated the characters (and plot) into a modern setting (i specially love what they did with lydia i love her so much in here)
as for movies idk, i like the hunger games movies but i wouldn't say i love them, so i guess i'll pick Arrival which i do love and it is based on a book :]
40. do you own any “rare” or “collector” books?
kinda? i have the litjoy crate editions of tfota (it has illustrations as well as new covers and it is annotated by the author) and pride and prejudice, and i have ordered the six of crows duology and the shadow and bone trilogy (illustrated and the first book comes annotated by bardugo)
i also have a pride and prejudice edition my friend gifted me that's from a library in portugal, and another pride and prejudice edition that comes with the letters separately
the rarest book i own tho is one in 21 in the whole world and it's my copy of Púlsar :] one copy is at my school because i did write púlsar as my TR, and the other 19 belong to my friends and some teachers who did buy it from me
48. what book would you give someone if they wanted a glimpse into your psyche?
first answer that comes to mind is Un somriure vermell com la sang ("A tale dark and grimm" in english) (the catalan title is so much better btw it translates to a smile as red as blood) (i also like the catalan translation more because of the impact a specific piece of dialogue has). this book changed my brain chemistry as a kid. it also has insane plot points for a children's book. i dont know if it glimpses into my psyche now, but it did mark me a lot as a kid
and i guess i could answer with my own writing? specifically my short stories. (thus spoke zarathustra is also a close second. damn that book rewired my teenage brain)
