update i am on 100.5 and i personally don’t think i’d be able to handle going through all this shit in 2018. just could not be me, i would be unhinged, feral, rip me out the cage- 100.5?! are we serious right now. to leave on that note with that weird ass episode, it’s a mid season break- who posts on a mid season break? that’s when you update your socials but genuinely these guys go crazy. rustyquillgamingpodcast i am coming for you. when i find friends who are committed to letting their freak fly and role play i will be you. can’t want to listen and fall asleep to that but i can’t because i still have to finish tma. do not get me wrong i love love love the special, but i would loose it in 2018!! and the winners of the rusty fear’s competition congrats those stories were scrumdilyisous i love that, but what is going on at the archives guys :0! i have so many thoughts on that as well because so much has happened, and i came in so blind.
i literally had no clue, not even an inkling as to what tma was about except for some pinterest meme mentionings when i was in a deep welcome to nightvale phase. since then i’ve tried to keep spoilers to a minimum but i love drawing so i was looking for inspo on pinterest.
does tim get better? is he cured of his contain of being an asshole? i thought they were all friends before (kind sorta) all that weird shit was going on which makes me also wonder why jon’s always dogging on martin. aren’t those two supposed to be in love, don’t they confess and get married in the institute and have freak babies? idk what’s going on with them. but sasha is really just dead, and the two sasha thing only lasted a season? i felt like it would have ate to draw that out more. and then elias is hot, i love psychopaths (not really, maybe, this is just jokes!!), yes you slay that man with a pipe. trap innocent people into being a part of your cult. serve cunt and don’t get your hands dirty, i love you. and jon, please get it tf together. i thought we were much stronger than this. i held out hope you’d be chill and just rolled with the punches but you’re a pussy jon. jon you’re a pussy and i need you doing more statements because martin is too pathetic at the end! i do love martin though, you stand up for your potential love interest and say fuck you to dickhead (the most sensible guy around) tim. lastly what is with all the jurgen leitner hate? i love him, he just wanted experience shit bro let the man live. i used to make potions in my bathroom so if you want to play pretend monster and have a book collection go ahead. like my guy is chill asf.
i feel like i’ve ranted enough but i feel bad for the people who experienced this as it was coming out. y’all would have had to lock me up!!

Slightly more complete thoughts on S2E3, No Pain…
Daniel’s list - he’s worried about his family… about their safety
Raglan James is so confusing. I don't know what to make of it...He seemed so David Talbot-esque... so will David be mixed between Raglan and Daniel? Or will he appear too? And if he is a character drawn from other characters, will he have Raglan’s malice… because it certainly wasn’t evident in this episode…. In TTOTBT there is a clear aura of bad intent with Raglan and I didn’t feel that here
I thought the children of darkness set up was really effective. Assad as Armand in this era was so great - jaded, depressed, hopeless. In fact, I thought Assad was brilliant in the whole episode
Harlequin Lestat was so beautiful, and so elegant for an (Auguste!) clown! But there as also a layer of triteness to the character and to Lestat’s view of acting it seemed that unnerved me. Armand told it like Lestat was naturally charming, but acted only as he liked the attention. That’s NOT Lestat’s motivation. And the comic nature of the character slightly undermined for me even Armand’s response to Lestat. And I loved Armand’s covetous desirous looks to Lestat…. But you don’t need Lestat as a Harlequin displaying his bum, as if to Armand to make your point…. Though I enjoyed that at least they made it clear Lestat refused Armand (even if only at first from Armand’s telling…)
It’s the episode Lestat has so far been in the most, yet is also the first episode where no scene with him in made me cry... (Bad times in my life currently, admittedly)
I loved the use of French, but I found it frustrating how little of the French was subtitled. I want to know what people are saying! I was not lucky enough to ever have been taught even a word of French in school so I have literally zero clue. Like, *he whispers in French*... WHAT do they whisper?! That is NOT ENOUGH INFORMATION FOR ME!!!! Can anyone help with the French text that wasn’t translated at all?
Although the bit in the theatre, I suppose having Lestat perform in French as Harlequin, but the mind-conversation take place in English made that clear… but I want to know the French text too!
I feel very weird and sad about Lestat meeting Nicolas when he's already a vampire (I know this is only Armand's telling, but I feel this fact will surely remain, due to Joseph's Nicki not looking like he could be the same age as Lestat… I suppose it is possible Lestat could still meet Nicolas as a mortal, but I don’t see any way Lestat can meet Nicki back in his home town) - I can only see it hugely lessening Nicolas' impact... but I guess maybe they want that for TV..? My expectations shift for TVL there though as I thought they’d go big with the Nicolas and Louis parallels to add to the poignancy of those two relationships. Instead, the parallel that was made by Armand was that both Nicolas and Claudia were not built for immortality….?
To expand on that - The Witches Place… if Lestat and Nicolas didn’t know each other as children what happens with that SUCH IMPORTANT element… perhaps Lestat will have been married for a while in his hometown in the TV show or something and there’ll be another character to get some of Nicki’s story… but it takes poignancy away from Nicolas and away from Louis in my opinion. It also takes poignancy away from the wolf killer red cape which Lestat is wearing. But Nicki is Lestat's first true love, the first person he converses with who he feels understands him and Lestat is snatched away from their shared bed in their shared abode by Magnus.... if Lestat doesn't meet Nicolas till he is 34 and already a vampire, that is SO different… in many more ways than I have included here...
But I liked Joseph as Nicki, and joy of joy, the snippets of violin playing were convincing enough for me. I was really worried about it, but nothing bothered me, albeit they obviously were very brief.
The Lestat Armand told us was far from the Lestat I know in most respects though. Lestat suggesting killing mortals on stage?! Lestat being romantic with Armand at all? Doing it in front of Nicki? Even Harlequin-Lestat... the behind-curtain slaughter and the non-Lelio-ness of it... It’s just overwhelming how un-Lestat the whole thing is, making it hard to know what to feel. It’s not like I hated or was sad by anything much other than Nicki… and I liked Nicki and enjoyed how he and Lestat were together… it’s more the implications of that Nicolas may be relegated to way more of a minor character…. With the amount Nicolas means to me, that makes me so sad (Don’t get me wrong: Loustat is endgame… I am not AT ALL a Nickistat is better than Loustat because absolutely NOT - I love Nicki for himself and for his impact on the formation and formative and mortal years of Lestat’s life!)
It's just different, of course, but it’s so much to take in…
I would have enjoyed Lestat in the coven except that the first time I saw that promo image I thought Lestat was holding a leg of meat on a platter and that it's Jesus on the cross just makes it all inappropriately hilarious to me now.
I know Lestat was trying to hide from Armand how concerned he was about Nicki, but I felt underlying feelings in similar scenes in S1 and I didn’t feel even underlying concern to the degree I expected here… just because it is Armand’s telling?
Also, Armand - you did NOT want your coven destroyed!
It’s hard to watch Armand’s fanfic simply because it is SO different that at some point all the differences feel like you’d need to literally retell the entire show!? I just didn’t feel much of *hidden real Lestat* from these scenes, the way I *could* often feel in Louis’ telling. But then, I suppose Louis is not intentionally lying, so it makes sense we’d feel more of the real Lestat than from Armand, who *is* intentionally telling a somewhat false version…????
BUT Assad is so good. And may I say at this point, I love how Assad, Jacob and Sam are all brilliant at conjuring convincing chemistry with each other. NOW ALL KISS TOGETHER AND I SHALL FORGIVE THE BOOK DISCREPANCIES hahahaha… I jest!
I felt so sad and sorry for Claudia, little flea :(. Seeking belonging, only to be so tragically disappointed. The way she imagines herself in Santiago’s role, but instead has to act a child for eternity - how horrific.
I'm also so aware of how in the book, Claudia immediately senses the danger she is in from the coven and from Armand and here it is so very different. I don't know what to make of it. Louis also seems to be considering leaving Claudia already anyway too, so his role in what happens feels a lot different too…
The wet room… Is Lestat locked up in there somewhere now? In a burial vault? Down with the rats and dead bodies? The fact that we’ve been shown the cellar seems to suggest Lestat could be there somewhere, but I don’t know with the book changes whether Armand will lock Lestat up in the way he does in the books? I feel all a bit at sea and like I am an idiot to expect to see book plot or book motivations in a way…???
LOL when Daniel is just distracted and kinda disinterested in hearing about Loumand!
I did LOVE where they went with the Louis-Dreamstat - kill me again and show me you love me the only way you know how though, MMMMM! And the reveal of what Louis did to the mortal. I think this was my favourite part of the episode in fact??
I wonder whether this could hint at anything to be revealed about S1E5 at all???

I felt a bit sad I’d seen so much of Harlequin Lestat and dreamStat in trailers… I think it took away some of the impact in the episode.
It’s NOT that I disliked the episode… I thought the acting was brilliant and I really felt for Claudia in particular… but I also felt weirdly ambivalent. Aside from Claudia’s scenes and the Dreamstat Louis-violence scene, I wasn’t sure what I felt about a lot of it… weird… I felt kind of weird about it I would say….

people making all those body-switching drink spiking memory altering theories when its so much easier to admit you felt like the writing wasn't that good this season. knowing a thing is mid and still enjoying it is so freeing try it sometime

What ive learned about the yakuza community is that you guys are way too hung up over that scene in y4 where he pinned haruka to the ground then started panting really heavily , that didnt happen for me , that scene wasnt real to me i forgot about it.
#Yakuza loveblog#it literally didnt happen for me like the game could have been perfect without it so i took it out#like how could you not like saejima he... he would be the perfect man if not for that scene#but it WOULD be funny to make haruka have beef with both majima (kidnapped her) and saejima (lowkey assaulted her)#saejima wouldnt do that .. he loves kids ...#i adore saejima i think hes super cool and extremely hardcore. more hardcore than kiryu even and kiryu is extremely hardcore#saejima was the first to almost die in the snow but unlike kiryu he didnt even get frostbite#well he did a bit but it wasnt that bad ... kiryus fingers were one hard press from having the flesh slough right off#anyway HOW CAN ANYONE NOT LIKE SAEJIMA HES SO COOOOOOL#Hes so charismatic and you can tell the depths of his empathy are unfathomable ... he looks at someone with sorrow and you know his heart#is breaking. he always gets so serious and sombre when hes trying to convince someone not to go down a dark path#my stomach HURTS. see saejima could have given me medicine because he is so kind#you have got to forgive him for pinning haruka to the ground with his knee between her legs like you need to forgive him#that was a slipup he was never planning on doing anything and he was very sorry for it ... i swear to you he just froze up he wasnt planning#on touching her or anything ... you know whos truly to blame ? kiryu. for standing there once again like a stone starue and letting it happe#hey ‘suzuki’ (lol thats a good one i might steal it later) i know youre an escaped convict because of the animalistic look in yout eye when#you pinned my twelve year old daughter to the ground and slobbered on her. and not the other telltale signs like you wearing a prisoners#outfit when you washed up on shore (lol) no there were no other clues. that was what tipped me off#hated kiryu in y4 he is useless. i will never forgive him. see saejima was panicking because haruka was going to call an ambulance. kiryu#had a cool head and he still decided to do some stupid shit. too bad i badly want men who make bad decisions and want to fuck kiryu so much

#Literally out of all the scenes I could've chosen to do I did a scene from the last chapter of book one. I like having joined a book fandom that's still new and fresh cause we get to nerdily bond as we devour a release of a new book in the series and I get to see all the theories and discussions and memes in real time as opposed to years later when everyone else knows how it ends so I have to block the fandom bc of spoilers. It's a feeling I haven't had since a teenager bc as of late I drag my ass into a fandom like a decade after its hayday and miss all the fun stuff
But it sucks ass that I am no longer as weirdly and eerily patient like I was as a child and the nine month wait for Heavenly Tyrant to come out is driving me crazy
#iron widow#no for real i would freak out adults with how calmly and quietly I'd be patiently waiting for something to happen#it's because of the psychotic bipolar making time go past me in hyper time and hours seemed like five minutes to me starting in fourth grade#literally at one point in fourth grade i got sick of time flying for a few weeks that during quiet reading time i just burst out asking#'is time going by really fast for anyone else this year?' no one had any fucking clue what i was talking about lmafo#having a very overactive imagination helped too because even if i was bored while being patient i could entertain myself in my head#i would and still do craft elaborate stories in my head that i have no hope in writing down skilfully#so I'm not very often bored even as an adult#but goddamn am i incredibly less patient now that I'm on an antipsycotic now lol rip#time slowed down and now i have to experience instead of blinking it away#which ngl did ease up my anxiety over dying some day because I'm no longer in a maglev heading towards mortality in a few hours#but i am ridiculously impatient now after spending two thirds of my life experiencing hypertime#trade offs

I've seen a lot of discourse on sad/tragic endings, but not enough about ambiguous endings. Ambiguous endings are advanced maneuvers and should not be tried by authors who are not extremely in control of the material. The difference between good writing and bad writing: good writing will be intentionally ambiguous, bad writing will be unintentionally ambiguous.
Good writers may have answered all of the questions before the end so they don't need to have an ending, or perhaps they wanted the reader to think deeply about the meaning of endings in fiction, and how they don't exist in real life. Good writers will stealthily hide questions in the text to keep the reader interested and hooked. Yeah you know Macbeth is a murderer twenty minutes into the play, but you just have to know how no man born of woman is going to kill him and how a forest is going to walk half way across the country. Those were questions the author put in our minds in the opening scene of the play.
Bad writing will plant questions and forget to answer them, or worse PRETEND to have answered them. Bad writing leaves you wondering what the fuck just happened and not in a 'oh jeez this is so exciting' way but in a 'make it make sense' kind of way. It makes you angry because it is inconsistent, not in the way that LIFE is inconsistent, but in the way that a lazy, disorganized writer is inconsistent. Bad writing creates an in-universe rule, breaks it and then never revisits that break with the rule, just carries on like it never happened. Bad writing often ends in a big unexpected twist because the writer thinks that if they come up with a good enough one, people will forget about how much the rest of it was inconsistent, ambiguous and generally pretty shit. I'm not talking about ACD forgetting the details of Watson's war injury, I'm talking about if Doyle forgot he had war injuries altogether and turned him into an action hero with zero mention of how it might be kind of hard for him to do stunts with his injuries...
So I think a lot of writers pick an ambiguous ending because they can't come up with a good twist or worse, think that being ambiguous is edgy--that an open ending IS the twist.
The ending of the story is a payoff, a literal reward for getting there for the reader and it is a sacred trust. It is not to be scoffed at. Readers most of the time will expect it and will be kind of pissed off if you don't deliver. And not being able to think of a good payoff is not an excuse for an ambiguous ending. That's bad writing.
#this is all because I watched track 29#and it angered me because I literally have no idea what actually happened in the movie#because the main character was insane and the film constantly contradicted itself and never addressed the fact that it did#other than to handwave: she's crazy#I also rewatched inland empire#and though I have no fucking clue what actually happened#I liked it because it was still well written#the universe it creates is fucked up#but it's a consistent fucked up little place

NO IT FUCKING ISN'T??????? don't f w me when it comes to romeo and cinderella i'm literally named after that shit#inb4 i also know more abt grooming than the average tiktoker bc i was Literally In The Situation They Say Happened In The Song#ie. groomed by an older teenager when i was 13-14#the entire claim is based around a. the romeo and juliet metaphor and a random ass claim about romeo's age (he doesn't have one but is.#based on context clues. two years older than her tops). and even if it was true r&j still wouldn't be abt grooming bc that would require it#writer to view the relationship as such. which shakespeare obv didn't. + it's not literally about r&j it's abt a teen girl comparing her#relationship to famous love stories and the pop cultural perception of them. b. the bit abt her parents not liking her 'romeo' when like#there are half a million reasons someone's parents could disapprove of their relationship that don't involve an age gap. also the parents#are shown to be v overbearing throughout the song so like . if anyone is mistreating her it's them. c. any of the various childlike#references. she's a teenager reaching for the adult world while still experiencing childlike naivete. this is to emphasize that. it doesn't#mean that she's secretly younger or anything. d. the school uniform line. she means that she's willing to run away at a moment's notice#without looking back home to go get her real clothes so that her parents could have the chance to stop her. it's a statement of devotion an#there's nothing to imply that romeo isn't also dressed in a school uniform. e. the you'll hate me line. a major part of the song is her#internal conflict of having to choose between her parents and romeo. her concern isn't based on the idea that if she does something wrong#romeo will hate her it's based on the fear that her indecision will hurt romeo's feelings. which is seen again in me and juliet. the#official sequel song. which is about how after they run away together she becomes overwhelmed by her internal conflict bc it didn't just go#away after she made her choice and she still loves her parents enough to question it. and finally f. the wolf line. which is about her#indecision. it's about her indecision. if romeo doesn't whisk her away quickly enough while she's leaning in that direction she feels she'l#have more time to doubt herself and it'll eat her up inside. it's a common metaphor babes and it's LITERALLY WHAT THE SEQUEL SONG IS ABOUT#romeo.txt
