Simon finds you in the backyard
Warnings: stillbirth, miscarriage, angst, fluff, swearing
“Have your fears and your pain gone away? Cause here on Earth it feels like everything.”
simon x reader guide
simon x reader fluff/angst list
Simon came home from the store, having groceries to make dinner. Usually he never did but lately he needed to. He was used to loss, used to losing things, people, loved ones. You weren’t. You weren’t used to death and grief. Maybe he goes about his grieving process unhealthily but right now he had to. For you.
He walked into the kitchen placing the bags down. The house was deafening quiet. It has been for a week with small sniffling however, that wasn’t the case. Simon left to the shared bedroom, for it to be dark and empty. He went to the bathroom, same empty and dark. He hesitated for the next room, he hated stepping into the room. Having the happiness being drained from what happened.
The room was painted blue, had stuff animals on shelves along with books. Rocking chair in the corner near the crib. The crib that would have been used. Usually you would be in this room holding to a blanket your mom made for the baby, crying, apologizing.
It wasn’t your fault, your body rejected the baby. Thinking it was a virus, not a living thing. A heartbeat. Simon stood in the doorway trying to push the memory of finding you in the bathroom, holding your stomach. Crying in pain, saying something was wrong.
Something was wrong, the baby was gone. The baby shows the signs, saying his goodbyes to his parents. Simon remembered when you had to give birth to him, he felt nothing. Trying to be strong enough for you as you pushed both of your son out. Simon remembered as he made no noise as he was placed on your chest.
You sobbed holding him whispering sorry continuously. Simon holding you and comforting you that it wasn’t your fault. That he wished it wasn’t you both that had to go through this. Simon snapped out of it when he felt a small nudge on his hand.
Riley. Simon looked down to see the Shepard looking up at him, nudging him again. Price got him the dog for solo missions and sniffing out anything that was needed for assignments. Eventually though he left him here with you, gives Simon reassurance that someone was here protecting you. Which now he was glad that he did due to leaving to an assignment sometime. Especially in your state.
After the funeral you weren’t the same, you were distant. You barely spoke, laughed, even at some point cried, unless it was late at night when you thought he was asleep. When you would doze off during the day not really move, Simon would hold you and rub your neck and back. Playing circles around your skin, kissing you.
Riley pulled at his sleeve. “What Ri.” Simon said lowly as he pulled on him again walking towards the back.
Simon followed him as he went through the dog door. He looked through the sliding glass watching Riley go to sit next to you. You didn’t move as he laid next to you. You looked beautiful, hair down, the sun hitting it a way that made it shine. It looked partly wet, which meant you showered, bringing joy to Simon. You had your knees up to your chest, arms hooked around them.
Simon opened the door, walking out. There were moments to leave you alone, to give you space. He understood the reasoning about being alone during times like these, he has done it. Soldiers have done it. It’s something that is important. Right now though he wanted to be next to you. Even if it meant just sitting next to you.
Riley looked up at him wagging his tail and watched as Simon sat on the other side of Riley. Simon placed his hand on the pups head, swiping down to his neck up to his head again. You still didn’t move, looking up at the sky. You beautiful eyes glued to the blue colored sky.
Simon stared for a while before you inhaled. “I needed to be out here,” You started not looking at him. “He would have loved the world out here.”
Simon knew what you were saying. Both Simon and you talked about how you would take your son out, give him the taste of what the outside world is like. Full of color, animals, love. How different smells would be. How the feel of the wind would be.
“He would have.” He commented looking forward at the trees that were at the edge of the land.
Simon thought about how he would be a toddler running around with Riley. Giggling. Simon never thought about children like he has been, thought they he would never get the chance. He would always think of things that he would go out and do with his son.
Simon thought about times that he would help his son for his first steps all the way till his first date. Help him out on his first tie. Teach him how to drive. Maybe go out on a shoot range. His first word. Everything cycled in his brain, wanting that life, now longing for it.
“I want to try again,” You started slowly before swallowing hard. “I just don’t know when.”
Simon nodded, he knew you wanted to, he wanted to. It’s just the time part he wanted both of you to heal from. “I do too but there is no time limit sweethear’.”
You inhaled watching your lip tremble. “What if I keep killing our babies?”
The question was a heavy hitter. He hated hearing yourself say those things. You are not a killer which means you never killed your son. Simon stood up to walk to kneel in front of you. “Stop saying that love,” He whispered putting his hand on your cheek and guiding it down to him. Your eyes puffed and red from crying. Those beautiful colored eyes being walled up from tears. “This isn’t your fault.”
“Then who is it Si?” You snapped back glaring at him.
It was your body sure but not your control. Simon sighed rubbing a circle on your cheek. “You had no control.”
You frowned looking down and away for a moment. The sob came through, he held you for a while as you sobbed and sobbed against his shirt. Simon rubbed his hand through your hair as Riley scoot closer to your hip. He looked up to see where you were looking at to see a faint rainbow.
Simon inhaled deeply, he heard about babies that don’t make it. How they are rainbow children, that it brings some beauty during the darkest times. Symbolizing hope and healing. Maybe. Just maybe that it is a start of the healing process.

Note
can you rank the great houses? 😊
obviously this is just my opinion on them, etc etc also thank you for this ask i love lists alskjdfj
9. House Arryn
Constantly dying off but they had a lesbian and a milf as rulers once so they have that going for them. House Royce is cooler, GIVE ME MORE BRONZE YOHN I'M READY FOR HIM!!!!
8. House Lannister
I’m sorry but They Are Just Fine. When I’m reading their chapters I feel something and then I mostly forget about them after I'm done. I wish we had a real Dance era book mostly for Joanna and Tyland tho.
7. House Tyrell
I think it’s really funny that they are upjumped stewards and the whole Reach has been pissy about it for generations. Mostly exist for other characters to project onto but by god do they reflect back in fun ways. I want to meet Willas so bad but I’m positive if we meet him he’ll die soon after so rip me!!
6. House Targaryen
Interesting villain house that George gets too distracted by too often. Lots of fun historical characters, the cyclical doom is amazing to read but Dany’s chapters drag so bad to me at some points and F&B just pissed me AWF. The best ones are usually tied to her magic (prophecy chapters, fever/vision dream chapters) or her dragons in some way and the dragon bond is also what I tend to find most interesting in her ancestors as well.
5. House Greyjoy
I haven't reread Victarian in years but damn Aeron, Asha, and Theon are all as great as I remember so I'm making the decision to put them this high on memory alone. But this family is just a group of the most delusional people ever, struggling in a culture that doesn't allow room for struggle, and the way Euron acts as this black hole of terror for all of them, until finally, finally, there is Asha, not only knowing and understanding that the way she's lived is wrong but going home and dragging everyone else through the dark and into the light with her. Also, their culture is just really fun and cool.
4. House Baratheon
Started by my number two enemy, Orys Baratheon, but damn do I love basically everyone else in this stupid ass House. The House as a whole really plays with masculinity; what it is, the damage you do when you measure up to your role, the lengths they will go to in order to pretend the fault lies elsewhere, craving the pleasures but refusing to deal with the consequences, and all of that fallout landing on their innocent children, dooming them for the next generation as well. I need more Baratheon women tho jfc.
3. House Tully
I literally love that the Tully’s are in canon known as being huge bitter bitches. The most fucked up idea of what family is in the world but by god do these people try, they all try so hard to live up to those words but the price of duty and honor is always the sacrifice of their children for The Family, and not actual protection of their family, and while Hoster recognizes this far too late, his children become determined to do Every Single Thing Wrong in order to be loyal to both The Family and their family. Unpleasant people, I love them so much.
2. House Stark
Taught me what family is!!!! The whole series for them is an examination of the family unit under pressure and how their attempts to stick to their assigned roles (The Mother, The Father, The Heir, The Dutiful Daughter, etc) just makes them completely break under the stress so they discover what's under that - AND IT'S LOVE BITCH. I HATE the analysis that their stories are about rejecting love or overcoming emotion because it all comes back to that moment with Ned in the dungeons, remembering how he chose Lyanna, Jon, and love over honor, the way he chooses Sansa over honor, THAT is the point, for all of them, trying to keep these impossible oaths of honor and ignore love but in the end, the father they venerate chose love because it is not just okay to yearn for love, it is human and natural and good to love others.
1. House Nymeros Martell
LISTEN. WHO ELSE COULD IT BE.
If the Starks are a family desperately trying to find each other again, than the Martells have long been lost. A House defined in its modern day by the violating loss of one of its daughters in a society that doesn't put much worth in losing daughters. It's the themes of justice and vengeance, waiting on the system that is not meant to help you to bring you peace, on the people who are at the outskirts of society finding the line between the overthrow of power and keeping the cycle going, it's STANDING AS AN ACT OF LOVE. For Doran to his Arianne, for Oberyn to Elia in the face of Tywin, for Elia to her children in the face of the Mountain, for Meria and Nymor and Maron and Loreza and Nymeria and Mors, the point is not just to stand up and fight but to stand up and fight for something, to fight for the people who depend on you because there is no one else to do it. A responsibility, a calling, an honor, a horror.

The Last Time We Met
Pt. 1
Summary: Daniel confesses his feelings, which turns out not the way she would’ve expected.
Word Count: 865
Part 2
Daniel and I have known each other for 2 years. I can confidently say that I’m one of the most important person for him despite the lateness of my arrival in his life.
It was another race weekend. We’ve been through so many Sundays together, but I’ll never forget this one.
He asked me to come to his driver's room early in the morning. It was weird of him. No, it was weird. No one goes to the paddock that early. But seeing that he’s not replying to my texts for explanation, I decided to just go.
As soon as I stand at his door, I can see him sitting nervously at the sofa while bouncing his left foot. I’ve never seen him like this before. He’s always so calm. Even though he’s nervous, angry, or sad he always manages to keep it down. But not this morning.
I stepped into the room and called him,
“Hey…”
He immediately turned his head and walked towards me. He gave me a smile. The one that I’ve never seen before. The one that no one has ever seen before. Later in the future, I realized that smile was only for me.
“Thank you for coming in a short notice. I really need to see you.” he said in a low tone.
“Of course, Dan. No problem. What’s up?”
My heart beat started to quicken. ‘Why does he need to see me this early?’ was my question.
That question was answered a few minutes after that.
He handed me a quite big white box with a white bow.
He told me to,
“Open it.”
I was so confused. Dani is not the type of person that suddenly gives you presents or surprises when there are no special agendas.
“What’s this all about?” I asked.
He rolled his eyes.
“Can’t you just open the box and stop asking?”
I just looked at him dead in the eyes, demanding for some explanation.
He gave me that smile again. Somehow I can feel the meaning behind it. But I’m not sure, I don’t wanna be.
He sighed,
“Everyone knows how hard 3 years ago was for me. People look down at me and I lost a lot of people who I thought were my friends. It was my dark time. And all I could think about back then was ‘this is it, this is where my career ends’. But fortunately, it’s not. I found some new strength. New people that actually care and stay by my side through all the downs. And among all of those people..... There’s you, on the top list.”
Being aware that I’m important for him and hearing him said it out loud is a totally different thing. ‘You’re important to me’ was enough, but ‘There’s you, on the top list’? Is too much for my poor heart that’s been aching his name since day 1.
Where is he going with this?
“I don’t know where or what I’m gonna be if I hadn’t met you. So I won’t let you doubt for even a split second that you’re less important than anyone else in my life. I want you to know that I wouldn’t trade you with anything this world has to offer. Because I love you.”
I was finding words to say but my brain decided to give up for being in too much pressure and shock.
My mouth starts to move but there’s not a single word out.
Dani decided to continue his speech knowing I couldn’t speak at the moment.
“Since last year, I realized there was something missing. Something unfulfilled in me. I woke up everyday thinking that it was because of the race. That I’ve been too long not winning a race. Then Monza happened. I won. But no, I still have that empty feeling.”
He looked down to his feet, smiling.
“Everyone is celebrating since it was a very big deal for me. In the sea of people, I look far into the paddock. There’s this one girl who’s cheering over a phone. I realized she was talking to someone in a video call. And boy, isn’t she the prettiest soul I have ever seen.“
I remembered this. I entered the paddock to stepped away from the crowd. Hoping to find some quieter place to make a phone call. As soon as I pressed ‘FaceTime’ she immediately picked up.
It was me. I was the one that called his parents because I know he will be occupied for the next couple of hours. He was talking about me…
“It was the realization that took me back. She is the one that I’ve been searching for. That’s why the emptiness creeps in whenever I wake up or laying my head at night. Because she isn’t there. I never feel empty whenever I’m with her.”
My mind resisted to think straight. All of the questions, all of the hopes starting to play with my sanity.
“Why are you telling me all of this?” I finally managed to slip out.
He brought his eyes back to mine.
“Because….”
What?
“I’m going to marry that girl.”
A smile started to form on my lips.

Cuts, Reshoots and Changes made to Terminator: Dark Fate.
As part of another giant essay I’m working on about the possibility of Dani & Grace being an intentional romance at some point (Edit - that has since been posted, and you can now find it here), I wanted to gather up a reasonably detailed list of Dani/ Grace scenes that we know were changed at some point during production of Dark Fate.
This is mostly a reference for that post rather than something standalone, but you might find it of interest all the same. I won’t spend *too* much time on my extrapolations here, but you’ll probably get the gist of what I’m thinking.
You’re more than welcome to offer your own angle though, similar or different, and like I say I’ll have more on that front soon. Let me know if you can think of any relevant omissions or errors.
So what was changed? Why? How do we know?
There’s quite a bit to this, so I’m going to try to detail it in the order it appears/would have appeared in the movie, and try to explain both how we know it was cut/swapped, and what we know about why.
Again though, note that this isn’t necessarily a complete list of every cut or change we know about – just ones relevant to Dani & Grace, and how else they might or might have been interpreted if things were different. And a lot of these may be minor in isolation, but I include them for the sake of a bigger picture.
First, let’s talk about the Director’s Commentary (available in my country only with the iTunes release.)
The commentary involves Director Tim Miller and Editor Julian Clarke discussing the movie’s production and is well worth a listen – Miller has an obvious passion for the Terminator franchise and its lore, and his theories and ideas are engaging to hear. Clarke explains his thought processes logically, and for the most part, I couldn’t fault him.
… But.
In the commentary, the guys explain they did an entire editing pass to remove moments where Grace and Dani were overtly – in their words - “tactile”.
We don’t know the full extent of this, but the fact they call it an entire editing pass it quite a big deal – an editing pass means running through the whole movie as it’s assembled so far, to reselect cuts and alternate takes, from the many hours of dailies available, while ensuring the flow and continuity is still right.
It’s a significant undertaking and it’s not done lightly at the late stage we're talking here. It represents a lot of work hours by the Editor and Director (and in this case, almost certainly, the Producer)
The reason they give for this is that they didn’t want the audience to know that Grace and Dani have any kind of established relationship in the future – they want it to be a surprise that Grace already knows Dani in her own time.
To me that makes no sense, and I’ll detail why elsewhere - but it is the official reason they give, so I want to start with that preface.
It’s also worth saying, in the spirit of fairness, that they mention doing some (much less intensive) cuts and swaps with Dani and Diego, because the Editor was afraid that what’s normal for Latin actors would be too confusingly tactile for Cool Ranch flavored audiences, who may read it as a little weird and incestuous.
I think that’s silly, but I include it just to give additional context on the Editor’s perspective.
Now, on to the changes.
1. Pharmacy.
Originally the pharmacy staffmember who helps Dani pull Grace onto the street -
Tumblr media
- then immediately asked Dani out, which she declines in no uncertain terms.
2. Motel.
The scene with Dani and Sarah has been tweaked considerably from the original. Initially, Dani had been seen crying more over Diego and her dad, this was almost all cut down and streamlined - the reason for the changes given being that test audiences were finding her a bit of a bummer.
But that isn't the only change, and the other isn't so cut and dry.
Tumblr media

This image is used to represent the FIRST AID KIT card in the weirdly excellent Dark Fate tie in card game.
Notably - images used in the card game are all promotional images that would have been approved for release by the studio, and the card company would have needed to have them as early as possible so they could design and produce their material.
Promotional images like this are not simply movie stills – they are actual photographs, taken by a purpose-hired photographer, which is why they never exactly align with a shot from the movie. However, because they are taken during the shooting of the movie, they’re clues to cuts we wouldn’t otherwise know of.
Dani never gets this close to Grace in the motel room while she’s unconscious in the final cut, and there’s no ice on her body in this shot, so it presumably sat before Sarah either ice’d or dosed her.
Presumably, also, this fell afoul of the "no touchy" edit pass. But there is no counterpart to this shot in the movie at all, and it's the only one of the card images where this is the case. The image itself hasn't been used in any later publicity releases either, as far as I can tell. The card game is the only trace of it out there.
So it seems like not only was the scene cut, the still itself was "de-approved" at some point later in production.
Additionally – though this is speculation, I’m not the only one making it - from the way scene is edited, it sure feels a lot like the first thing Dani does when she’s let back into the room by Grace after being sent for chips is immediately hug her, and the scene has been chopped around a bit to hide it.
Take a look for yourself, and see where this impression comes from – even though Dani and Grace have dialogue and are the active players in the moment, the camera lingers on Sarah, doing and saying nothing, for a weirdly long time, and for no clear reason.
It feels very much like a cutaway an editor might improvise so as not to show something else, and there are plenty more instances of this later we’ll come back to.
This trick, where we see generic reaction footage of somebody while rewritten/rerecorded dialogue is delivered from offscreen, is usually a last resort, a way to overhaul a storyline or conversation very late in the process.
It is used way more than I’d consider normal throughout DF – often during really major plot points, where you ideally want to make the best of everyone’s on-set performances and dynamism. It will come up a lot more.
We also know the road trip stuff with the three women was cut way down, in this case because a lot of it involved Sarah and Grace being snippier than they really need to be.
*PS – The motel room is pretty much an exact clone of the one Kyle and Sarah hid out in during T1. Keep that in your back pocket for later.
3. South Tunnel Future War Flashback.
We know from Tim Miller that the Future War battle was cut short. The original longer version showed us Hadrell/Quinn having a glorious last stand against the Rev-7s until they killed him, which presumably influences Grace’s decision to be Augmented.
According to Reddit users who were confirmed to have seen the test screenings, this longer version was actually in the cut they saw, albeit with incomplete SFX, so it was still intact even at that relatively late stage.
Remember from above - it’s supposed to be a surprise Grace knows Dani at all. That’s what Tim and Julian have told us, and it’s so important that it was worth time and money to cut scenes that had already cost too much time and money to film.
Here in the flashback we see in the final cut though, we are straight up shown Dani on the rescue stretcher.
And we are very pointedly shown Grace alone attending to her during the flight. Which casts doubt on that.
But the alternate/deleted version of this scene would have gone further, we would also have been shown “The Commander” in the alternate version of the volunteering scene  –
Tumblr media
While that alternate scene isn’t as well executed as the one they went with, in my opinion, it’s notable in that it has Grace volunteering much more deliberately. She insists on it, outside the immediate aftermath of battle, and her reasons seem far more personal than her immediate duty to the Commander as a leader – she demands to be Augmented in direct response to seeing the seriously injured Dani in that neighboring infirmary bed, rather than for the sake of an abstract and offscreen Commander.
Now these Future War scenes all need a ton of VFX, and bespoke sets, props and wardrobe that can’t be bought off the rack or recycled anywhere else in the movie’s main present-day storyline, so they’re very expensive. Whatever else you might shoot as a just-in-case, you would not shoot more of this than you had to.
Given she’s bundled up on a stretcher, it would have been trivial to conceal the identity of the injured VIP completely – simply by not shooting her clearly, or covering her head. Natalia Reyes wouldn’t even need to be on set.
But she was - they went to the lengths of having her, having her face visible, putting her in injury makeup, and showing us Grace is uniquely, personally affected by her condition.
Tumblr media
Which is... odd, right? A little contradictory?
4. The Train.
Quite a lot seems to be cut from this scene – we know of at least one line from the trailers, (“We win by keeping you alive”) that’s been cut, and one line Miller mentions in the commentary (Grace’s original retort to Sarah was “The only thing you and Mother Mary have in common is a dead son”), but it’s also been changed considerably since the Audition script that circulated early on.
I want to be really clear what we’re talking about here first though.
An Audition script, a “side”, is a very rough placeholder script that is used to test chemistry and emotion. The dialogue in a side will vary from rough to terrible, and sometimes the scene is deliberately misleading, as sides very often leak via the folks who don’t get the part – and indeed that’s presumably why we have this one.
But the general mood of the scene is the important thing. It is usually in the ballpark because that’s what you’re trying to be sure your actor can bring. The side is usually chosen because the particular emotional peak of this particular moment is the Director’s priority – so a side, however clumsy or misleading the dialogue is, represents something that matters so much for this character they’ll cast solely on the basis of it.
This side, which can be Google'd up pretty easily, was used to audition actresses for Dani. It sketches out a Grace who does not know, or claims not to know, Dani or what’s so important about her, and this scene is clearly a tentative bonding moment between them. Sarah doesn't even seem to be present.
In it, we see Dani show concern for Grace’s shoulder wound, before comparing it to a severe shoulder scar of her own that she shows Grace, from a bus crash in Puebla when she was fourteen, and here's an extract -
She touches [her own] scar, gently with her fingers.
DANI (CONT'D)
I'll never eat obleas again.
(Grace studies Dani as she traces the line of the scar with her finger.)
GRACE
You wanted to understand where I come from? You already do.
(Dani's eyes meet Grace's for a moment.)
DANI
My mother told me scars make the skin stronger.
Dani covers her scar with her shirt, then looks out again as the train slows, approaching Nogales.
I mean... if a movie showed you a heterosexual pair of characters doing this…?
But, we'll get to that in a subsequent post.
5. The Truck.
Here's the version of this we saw in the early trailers -
Tumblr media
Source: Booasaur
Vs the version in the movie -
Tumblr media
This scene, like the motel room, is an homage to a scene with Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor in T1. There are a lot of those.
6. The Crossing & The CBP Detention Centre.
There are a number of major cuts made to the sequence where the group cross the Mexico-US border, but chunks of the original version are visible in the trailers, and the deleted scene is provided in the home release.
Originally, for starters, the Rev 9 managed to track Dani to her uncle’s house, killing everyone there.
He goes on to manipulate the Mexican Federales into actively herding Dani & Co towards the CBP trap he’s set for them. Grace then spots the drone and realizes he’s tracking them, has them ditch their bags and tells them to run for it. She exchanges fire with the Federales in a running battle, and Dani’s uncle is killed.
You can see this full scene here. And actually now that I rewatch it, I'm struck by how effectively sinister Rev 9 is in the first bit, and what a shame that was to lose:
youtube
Miller says the scene was cut down in part because whacking Dani’s relatives threatened to get a little repetitive, and he has a point (her cousin later also dies in the CBP centre), but there are some really valuable character moments in here too.
Before Grace starts shooting, Dani strictly warns Grace not to kill anybody. Which is a T2 callback, of course, but it’s also establishing Dani as taking the initiative, and it makes it apparent that Grace is already treating whatever she asks for as an order.
The gunfight itself isn’t great, frankly, but I do think the movie feels this cut. It cues up the scenes coming after it in a way that just leaves them kinda awkward without. The reason Grace is so fired up and ready to throw down with the CBP when they're caught in the spotlight is because, as far as she's concerned, she’s *already* in the middle of a gunfight; Dani’s “I’m not watching you die” to her is meant to directly address the fact she’s still feeling her uncle’s death, and can’t bear to see Grace get shot now too, rather than just something she blurts out randomly. She’s already seen somebody she cares about die, and she won’t risk it again.
But Dani’s grief at the death of her uncle would also have played into the next bit, too, something which is still in the movie - when Rev-9 drops the drone on them. Dani sees Grace easily break out of her restraints to save her from it, only to be KO’d by the blast.
Tumblr media
In other words - having just surrendered to save Grace’s life, Dani has to see her being killed after all, and we see her looking at her lifeless body with a moment of despair. And after binding Grace with a No Kill order so that nobody else will die over her, she now sees that Grace has apparently sacrificed herself to save her.
This pays off – or would have paid off – in a deleted moment later, too. A shot seen in the trailers from when Grace finds Dani in the cages shows us Dani’s clear relief at seeing Grace is alive.
Tumblr media
A subsequent cut shot has Grace and Dani fleeing the Rev-9, hand in hand, in slow motion.
Tumblr media
Compare this to the much messier, more rushed sequence we see in the movie -
Tumblr media
The Federales shootout sequence on its own is a little redundant, sure, but without this bit, the drone stuff is just... kind of orphaned, and pointless. It's a very dramatic splash of fireworks with little consequence. The shot of Dani looking at Grace's body after the blast has no purpose, and the attack has no real effect, so it might as well not have happened.
More than that, this set of cuts make for really messy continuity. There's a big mismatch between them hauling a bunch of presumably very useful gear through the desert one moment, and then abruptly having none a few shots later; and it feels silly to see everyone set out armed to the teeth with guns they never even try to use.
The way Dani’s uncle just dips out to let the cousin lead them the rest of the way in the theatrical cut feels bizarre, and the escape from the CBP centre feels tangibly choppy and not nearly as clearly composed without the moments seen in the trailer, like missing frames of animation.
7. The Plane Chase.
This whole sequence has been totally overhauled, and maybe several times.
The plane battle was originally longer (which I don’t think it really needed to be) but one notable feature is that Major Dean and the EMP grenades all appear to be later additions.
Many people had guessed this anyway - he comes out of nowhere, provides the grenades, and bows out again, without much explanation or grounding outside the few minutes he appears. And the (oddly cheap) looking grenades themselves are destroyed before ever affecting the plot. So it has all the hallmarks of a reshoot that was plugged into an existing sequence.
The original version of the sequence though, seen in the “pre vis” computer storyboard included on the home media releases, had the gang actually seize the plane by force, and physically subdue two crewmembers. The two end up tied up in the hold after one of them hits Arnie with a wrench (he still sports the injuries from this in the film)
When Rev 9 attacks, one of the crewmen is killed by cargo debris; Dani frantically tries to save the other, but he’s sucked out of the breach in the fuselage before she can.
That original version involving the kidnapped crew appears to have actually gotten as far as being filmed – two “injured” Air Force actors who seem to fit the bill are visible in some of the “Making Of” featurettes.
The prop auction blurbs – some notes from it here – seem to suggest Carl used chain brackets as weapons in the fight, which I don’t believe he does in the battle as seen.
Now why does this matter?
Well, because if there were no EMP grenades, then the conversation in the cockpit must have been completely different, since Carl and Sarah don’t have to interrupt Dani and Grace’s conversation to alert them to the damage.
The cockpit scene is a continuity mess start to finish anyway though, which is another a tell-tale sign of reshoots and re-edits - just for fun, for instance, watch out for Grace’s disappearing drink.
It’s worth watching it start to finish too just to see how much dialogue is delivered from a character who is speaking from offscreen, suggesting these lines were written and then recorded in a Sound Booth after the scenes were shot.
There’s a lot of that in this movie, which I’ve mentioned previously, but this scene in particular is rife with it; almost all its key dialogue is delivered from offscreen while we’re watching what amounts to stock footage of Sarah or Carl.
That much ADR/ overdubbing from off camera is a dead give away that a scene has been almost totally reworked.
And why? Why did it need to be arranged so much?
Well, that brings us to what I think is the biggest change of the movie.
8. "You Saved Me" / "You Raised Me"
The suggestion Dani found and raised Grace from childhood is entirely a post-test screening addition. It was not in the original version of the movie, at all, and this has been confirmed by the Reddit test screening participants. The whole implication comes from a single line and scene which was added after the testing, and at the cost of all that continuity mentioned above.
The scene we see of Dani rescuing Kid-Grace is a reshoot which was inserted in place of another deleted scene, set during the Future War, wherein an adult Grace begs an adult Dani to let her go back and save her. That’s why the Kid-Grace scene has a different look and feel to everything else in the movie, Present Day and Future War, because it was shot way after everything else.
Before I go on, please take a moment to see the scene they cut, and imagine it back in place –
youtube
I mean... dang, right?
Unlike Major Dean or the grenades, this scene is not some neatly isolated little island, and unlike the one replacing it, it's aesthetically in tune with the South Tunnel battle. It depicts a post-Augmentation Grace, wearing “Augment” style sleeveless gear, and it’s the source of at least one promotional shot.
It also explains the circumstances Grace came back, lets Dani off the hook for sending her back to her doom, and even ties directly into a significant exchange of dialogue later on; Commander Dani is shown shedding a tear here when Grace asks to be allowed to save her, presumably because she remembers they will be some of Grace’s last words later, too.
The Theatrical Cut also still has the moment later when Grace quotes this scene to Dani’s younger self before she dies, so this scene is actually the foundation for a later one.
So it’s important, is what I'm saying, it’s laying down all the emotional groundwork for Grace’s death and the tragic implications of the movie’s Bootstrap Loop.
It makes the Commander far more sympathetic, gives Grace a ton more agency, and there are lines still in the movie which call back to it.
Without it, we even lose the visual parallel of Grace on her knees to Dani in the present day just as she is in her memory from the future, in the TDE facility.
For now then, let’s just say that I think you would need an excellent reason to pay more money to replace that original scene, especially with a scene that both looks cheaper, plays worse, and lacks the same connective tissue to anything else. And that this reason would have to be something unrelated to the needs of basic storytelling mechanics, or the Director’s preferences.
9. Underwater Battle.
Grace originally fought the Rev-9 underwater briefly, after the plane crash. That’s why she’s so exhausted when she resurfaces and they have to try to climb up the dam, and it’s why she couldn’t come to help the two others when they were trapped in the flooding Humvee.
10. Turbine Room.
Dani originally finished the battle with the Rev-9 pretty much on her own. This was reworked, apparently, to give Arnie “more of a moment”.
You can see images from the original version here.
Which I do believe - but the original flow would have meant Dani screaming at this thing that it’s taken everything she had, before going apeshit and killing it, in direct response to Grace’s death, which is pretty intense.
(Incidentally, I’m not convinced the subtitles are quite capturing her literal meaning in Spanish either, can somebody help me out?
Edit - BeneathTheThunders has confirmed this in the comments, Dani actually says "Killed everything I loved")
11. Final Scene
The playground scene with Grace as a kid is another post Test Screening addition. Originally the movie ended with a rolling road, just like T2, and a voiceover from Sarah.
Along with the added scavenger attack scene, that means it’s probable we never saw Grace as a child in the original version. At all.
Which would make for a quite different narrative bent, especially if the original Future Dani/Grace seen had still been in place.
In Summary.
Let’s consider how different that alternate narrative was.
Remember that Grace rarely, if ever, discusses Dani’s survival in terms of saving the world or winning the war, apart from her freakout in the chopper – her devotion is to Dani, personally, somebody we only ever see or hear of Grace knowing as one adult woman to another. Somebody she knows, somebody she sat vigil over in the Dragonfly and inspired her to become augmented.
Somebody, we hear only from an experienced, Augmented Grace who has saved her, with her exact meaning left to our imagination – when and how or how poetically she might mean that, we aren’t shown.
Remember that somebody, we see then, is a hardened uniformed military Supreme Commander, who nonetheless cries at the prospect of having to send Grace away to danger, something she’s tried “everything in her power” to avoid.
Remember that, back present day, that person’s first instinct when left alone with her unconscious body (after resting her head in her lap in the jeep for some reason?) is to care for her so tenderly it produced the mysteriously memory-holed First Aid Kit image. When reunited with her after being briefly parted, it’s apparently to embrace her.
While being pursued, it’s to designate her terms of engagement, and then surrender to protect her.
And notably, it is also Grace, not Commander Dani, who outlines what’s going to be done about the TDE in the flashback/forward to 2042.
So they don’t behave like either Mother/Daughter or Officer/Soldier. But they are something. And throughout the movie these two were, apparently, so physically close it was worth spending money and losing shot-to-shot continuity and clarity to put distance between them.
And in the end, when Grace does die, literally giving Dani her life with which to fight her attacker (“I’m sorry Grace!”), Dani tenderly touches her face before destroying her enemy, for taking everything she had from her - for "killing everything she loved".
I’m sure you can infer what I’m getting at there... but we’ll come back to that in a future post.
For now, here's what I'd love to know - the original cut apparently ended a little after the dam battle, with a Sarah voiceover on the rolling road.
I wonder what she said?

September 29, 1973
There’s an English news stand in the airport terminal, and Daniel is calm enough to think about picking something up for the flight. Maybe he can just read a book, like a normal person, instead of scaring the shit out of his neighbor by having nightmares the entire time.
Maybe he won’t sleep on this flight, anyway. Two nights in a row of real sleep, and everything feels a little clearer.
Jim Croce is on one of the magazine covers, and Daniel’s fingers skim over it, heart sinking a little as he reads the headline. Dead in a plane crash, not even two weeks ago. He flips through the pages, wondering what else he missed in the haze. Stares at a glossy picture of Croce and his young son.
Croce’s 1972 ‘Time in a Bottle’ was written when he learned he would become a father.
Daniel puts the magazine down. Shakes his hands out, tongues at the split in his lip. Grabs a cheesy looking sci-fi book, instead, and a pack of cigarettes, and cinnamon candy.
People stare at him as he heads over to the gate. He feels more put together than he has in weeks, so it’s not that he’s a raving lunatic or anything. Just that everyone is dressed nice, in suits and hats. Some of the ladies wearing gloves. Daniel supposes he’s underdressed. And  his face is still a little fucked up from the other night. He must look like a scumbag.
It doesn’t matter, though. He knows that. Even feeling calm like he is now, the apathy towards them feels so centered and rational. They don’t know what he knows. They’re off on business, or visiting family, or checking some dream vacation off the wish list. As he watches them, he thinks they’re like the allegory of the cave that his hot professor told him about.
Lestat’s watch is cold under his thumb, in his pocket. It clicks against his lighter as he pulls both of them out, rolling them against each other in the palm of his hand for a moment before he lights a cigarette. He twists the winder idly, barely able to hear it, and it feels good. Grounding and real, and he feels the age of the thing.
It’s clear enough, just for now, that he wonders about finding someone to repair it. Maybe can go back to the States, where people will understand him. Maybe Americans understand the need to rush. He wonders how many shops he can call, and how far Armand’s cash will get him if he demands to have it done the same day.
It could use a polishing, but it glows in the sunlight. Daniel tilts it towards the huge airport windows, studying the gleam of it.
Odd, that Lestat will have never seen it like this. Maybe just in candlelight, in lanterns. He wonders if Lestat crawled under the house before it had electric lights.
The winder click click clicks, so softly. Danie’s unsure if he imagines the sound, if maybe his brain just supplies it. He sets his cigarette onto the hurt part of his lip, reveling in the dull ache as he presses in around the filter. With his free hand he turns the watch over, caressing it, looking at the name again.
It reminds him of something.
Deep, buried down there. Way down in the back of his head. He twists it again, chasing the thread that flares up. It’s tactile, and familiar, like maybe something from his childhood.
The memory floods him as they announce that his flight is boarding, as he goes to stuff the watch back in his pocket. And it’s sharp, too vivid, so that he freezes where he is, so that he forgets to ash his cigarette. As if he didn’t already look like a dirtbag, and now there’s a powdery stain on his dark t-shirt.
“Fuck,” he mumbles, and tries to brush it away. He glances up at the gate, and down at the watch, and remembers winding up the locomotive on the train set he had when he was little. It would click click click, round and round and round, cold in his small hands.
Weirdly enough, it was like time stopped then, too.
Daniel looks back on stuff like that sometimes and wonders if there were clues that he wasn’t built like everyone else. When he was little it confused him—he never quite understood why his dad had been so excited to help him set the tracks up, but got mad at him later for playing with it too much.
He hasn’t thought about it in a long time, though. He takes a final drag off the cigarette and stubs it out in the ashtray that’s built into the arm of his chair. And he’s up, squeezing around the watch as he stuff it into his pocket, trying to hold onto his calm as he heads to the gate.
Something ephemeral about it, like everything else. How he could play with his train for hours and hours and hours, and forget to do his chores. How he could rise out of it sometimes, and behave, and be nice while family was over for Sunday dinner, and how he could sit still and know he would go right back to it after. Later it was comic books, and then it was his record collection, and for a while it was the interviews.
And now it’s…
He’s clear right now, he’s behaving. He’ll get on the train and read a book like the other people.
Train? No. It’s a plane.
And Jim Croce died in a plane crash and that sad sad song was about his son. And Daniel has always fucking been like this.
He rubs his face.
The stewardess is dead behind the eyes as she checks his ticket, and Daniel wonders if she wants to be somewhere else, too.
“It won’t last, you know?” he says to her, as she hands his ticket back, and points towards the right side of the plane.
This won’t last. It won’t last. I’m just up for air. It will get bad again.
She shrugs. Doesn’t give a shit. Gestures for him to keep moving, because he’s blocking the door.
“Please be seated,” she mumbles.

I cannot even begin to fathom the pressure that a single indie artist would have, doing a kids' graphic novel reboot for a show that's had a fanbase sustaining itself for FIFTEEN YEARS off nothing but a trio of seasons and its own increasingly esoteric, elaborate Fanon Lore.
Like, it's physically impossible to address everything readers want in 200 pages of PG-rated comic panels. Even if it was the best written story in the history of media with staggering artwork, someone won't like how it defies fanon, or caters to fanon, or is too dark, or not dark enough, or whatever. All it really can be is a decent story in its own merit.
.......But I'm not writing the Danny Phantom comic, so here's a list of things I'm hoping to see, in order from most to least likely:
Dark Dan comes back and is sexy. (Already confirmed.)
Vlad getting some kind of character growth or edge towards redemption. (Decently likely, would be surprised if it didn't happen.)
Mention of how Maddie/Jack are taking the identity reveals, ideally with realizing how they tried to murder their son for months. (This'll almost certainly happen, but if it's done well, that's another controversy. :P)
Valerie getting some form of closure to her Vlad-tech hunter revenge arc. (She's confirmed to be in the comic, so probably...?)
Related, Valerie having a freakin moment to address her ex being Phantom and how weird that is. (Equal odds of this happening ooor it being pushed aside for the Greater Threat, imo.)
I think Danny should get to cry once. It's a lot of pressure and he's a kid and he didn't get to even once in the show.
Dani shows up! (Not confirmed, but maybe a cameo?)
Tucker gets fired from being the mayor. I like Tuck, but come on.
More content for the trans!Danny theory. (PLEASE, just like, one binder in a background shot or a pink and blue flag somewhere, please)
Danny/Vlad identity reveals getting retconned through time travel. (May be a bit of a cop-out, but has enough precedence in canon to be possible.)
Obsessions/cores/Ancients namedropped and therefore becoming Real Canon. (Possible.)
Wes becoming canon. (Less possible, but funnier.)
Clockwork nonbinary pronouns canonized.
My OC specifically becoming canon.

What do you think of Khal Drogo? As someone who relates to and projects onto Daenerys more than any other fictional character, I have really complex feelings about him. I relate to Dany so much that I feel what she feels as I read. I felt her fear of him at first, then her love, and her grief. But as a 24 year old woman now, I cannot help but feel revulsion in my gut about a man older than I am bedding a girl of her age. I know that we can assume taking wives that young was acceptable for the Dothraki but it still twists my gut that he felt attracted to her. I also question the nature of their love. She certainly loved him, but was it a love born out of Stockholm syndrome? Of survival? Did she come to love him because if she didn’t, she would’ve gone mad? And did he truly love her? He was gentle when they consummated their marriage but then continued to bed her even when she cried. Did he simply love her as the mother of his unborn child? Would he have loved her had she not conceived? There’s also the matter that he declared that he wanted to rape the wives of Westerosi knights and enslave their children, which are things that are obviously condemnable, things that Dany herself is not okay with. What do you think?
Hi nonnie! I totally understand relating to Dany, so first of all there's nothing wrong with feeling her love and grief for Drogo. It just means Dany's chapters are very well-written, and Dany is herself a very-well written character. You can feel what she's feeling when you're reading and still know that Drogo raped her. If some people come at you for this, ignore them.
He did rape her even the first time. Some will argue that she said yes in the end, but she said no before. She was sold to him, she spent the whole chapter fearing what would happen, and she didn't have a choice. What would have happened if she hadn't finally said yes, one time? He would have let it go? Of course not. I also have to talk about the reactions someone’s body can have, as it’s used to say Drogo didn’t rape Dany as much as her finally saying “yes”. It happens more often than people think it does. A man can be raped by a woman, for example, and his body will react to make it possible. I’m trying to not be too graphic here, but it’s important. Well, a woman’s body can also have a reaction that people will consider as consent, when it’s not. This belongs in the list of the very long reasons why a victim of rape or sexual assault will not consider themselves as a victim, or will not dare to go to the police nowadays.
Another thing: when I say Dany was sold to Drogo, I'm not just talking about an arranged marriage which benefits both parties, like it happens in Westeros. First, the Dothraki culture is very different (for example, Drogo could have shared her), and Illyrio made profit of this wedding, which means she was traded. She was a slave, not just a woman in an arranged marriage. She knows what it's like, and that's why she's fighting slavery afterwards.
Basically, Dany didn't have a choice during her marriage to Drogo. Never. Yes, she cried. Yes, she was afraid. Yes, he raped her more than once, because she didn't consent. And saying yes once (although I’ve talked about how this “yes” doesn’t mean it wasn’t rape) doesn’t mean you consent for the next times. While the concept of marital rape didn't exist in those times, we know what it was:
“Yet every night, some time before the dawn, Drogo would come to her tent and wake her in the dark, to ride her as relentlessly as he rode his stallion. He always took her from behind, Dothraki fashion, for which Dany was grateful; that way her lord husband could not see the tears that wet her face, and she could use her pillow to muffle her cries of pain.”
Daenerys III, A Game of Thrones
She thinks about suicide as the only way out:
“Day followed day, and night followed night, until Dany knew she could not endure a moment longer. She would kill herself rather than go on, she decided one night.”
Daenerys III, A Game of Thrones
She made the best of her situation though, to survive. What's interesting in Dany's chapters is that she blames her brother Viserys. I'm not saying she's wrong, but she's not blaming Drogo. Why? Because after adapting to the Dothraki culture, Dany felt safe with Drogo, loved even. It's called being an unreliable narrator, and as we read Dany's chapters in the first book, we can start thinking she's with a man she loves and who loves her. It's not the case: she's his slave. It’s only when Dany stops showing weakness that he seems to care about her. But Drogo also had a powerful impact on her. Dany starts to make decisions and come into power after her marriage to Drogo. She starts to stand up to her abusive brother after her marriage to Drogo. So her own feelings towards Drogo are still very confused:
“Do you know what it is like to be sold, squire? I do. My brother sold me to Khal Drogo for the promise of a golden crown. Well, Drogo crowned him in gold, though not as he had wished, and I... my sun-and-stars made a queen of me, but if he had been a different man, it might have been much otherwise. Do you think I have forgotten how it felt to be afraid?”
Daenerys II, A Storm of Swords
This is just one example, but while Dany is against slavery and does realize she was Drogo’s possession, in her mind Drogo was good to her.
No, I don't believe Drogo ever loved Dany. The nicest things he says about her is when she's carrying his son. But it's very hard to guess what Drogo is thinking, as we don't have his POV. In fact, a huge issue with GRRM is that he doesn’t give any backstory to Drogo or any Dothraki. We do have a backstory or a POV for characters who are abusers and/or rapists, but they’re white. Without knowing anything about Drogo besides Dany’s thoughts, it’s easy to either romantize him or villainize him more than the others.
In the Dothraki culture, for Drogo, there’s literally nothing wrong with what he said he would do to get the throne for his son (again, it’s not for Dany). She’s not okay with it, because as much as she adapted to the Dothraki culture to survive, she’s against rape and slavery. She put a stop to the rape and enslaving of the Lhazareen women because she believes it to be wrong, despite having come to value aspects of the Dothraki culture.
“Princess”, he said, “you have a gentle heart, but you do not understand. This is how it has always been. Those men have shed blood for the khal. Now they claim their reward.”
Daenerys VII, A Game of Thrones
When Jorah tells her this, he’s stating a fact. Is there even a word for rape in Dothraki? They don’t understand why Dany says she wants no rape, she’s even being told that those riders do honor to those women. Why am I going there, after explaining that Drogo didn’t love Dany, that she was raped many times, that she was a slave? Because you asked me what I thought of Drogo, not just his relationship with Daenerys. And the answer is: I don’t know, because I don’t know him, only what he did to Daenerys.

AS OF NOW IN YOUR LIFE who are your favorite heroines of horror content?
I love many things about you, Liv, but one of my favorite things is your determination to tee your friends up for FANGIRLING.
So in light of watching Prey, and then rewatching my favorite parts of Prey, and then telling everyone I know to watch Prey, I obviously must say NARU is easily a top tier horror (and action) heroine for me.
You know what I love about Naru? Aside from everything and Amber Midthunder's performance? I love the fact that she begins the movie essentially wanting to prove that she's "as good as the boys", but throughout the film she must access not only the hunting skills she's built up over the years, but the "feminine" training she tried to reject. In fact, the movie highlights that physically, Naru just can't do some of the things the other hunters do. Like the moment when she almost dies in quicksand! Physically, she's just not quite as big or built as the men in her tribe. But she has still worked fucking hard, and she's able to combine that effort with the things she's learned from her mother to be this ULTIMATE hunter.
I. Just. Fucking. Love. Her.
Going down the list:
Adelaide Wilson, Us--I think what strikes me about Addy, aside from Lupita's performance (my favorite Lupita performance still) is the brutality innate to her story. She's very much a.... morally gray... heroine. If you can call her the heroine, which I do. You end the movie feeling like you don't actually know her, and that's a quality I just love.
Rosemary Woodhouse, Rosemary's Baby--This movie is one incredibly dark horror show for Rosemary, and she's basically denied agency throughout the narrative. But I think that she's incredibly sympathetic and lovely, and you feel this naturally independent spirit in her, this desire to be free. Is Rosemary fighting a satanic cult, or is Rosemary fighting like... society? Anyway, definitely one of the best "surrender to madness" endings in film, and yet another sick performance, this time from Mia Farrow.
Sidney Prescott, Scream--I mean. Obviously. I really just love Sidney because she's a classic final girl, and she never gives up this edge of trauma and softness despite her general badassery. Truly don't know how I feel about the upcoming Scream without her, tbh. The cast is good, but a Scream without Sidney is kind of upsetting. Also, just pay women what they're worth.
Grace Stewart, The Others--Again, I love a descent into madness. Grace is just a mom, man! Just a mom with two sick kids trying to keep her shit together with her husband gone away to war as her house becomes increasingly creepier. I still think this movie has one of the best horror twists ever, and it's achingly tragic and so focused on Grace in a really bold way. This movie goes to a place where I don't think a lot of movies would.
Theo Crain, The Haunting of Hill House--HOW I ADORE THEO. She's caustic and soft at the same time, a natural loner who's nonetheless ultimately devoted to her family. A woman who wants to feel nothing because she feels everything. A party girl who fucks every lady that moves but is also a caring child psychologist. Fabulous.
Dani, Midsommar--Look man, Florence Pugh has been annoying in recent months but this performance is still king and I really just... love the way that the entire movie is just one long downward spiral for her, lol. Maybe that's mean! But for real, I just love the way she goes from like... sad to broken to resentful to numb to completely fucking BONKERS.
Ruth, Prevenge--You know what, nobody I knows has seen this movie but I really enjoy it lmao. And it truly is a woman-centric horror movie. A pregnant woman whose boyfriend died in a climbing accident hears instructions from her unborn baby to kill everyone connected to his death. VERY LOGICAL OF HER. This movie is sick and funny and I feel so weirdly sympathetic to poor Ruth. You keep going, Ruth!

Some things to note for this blog
I should have put this up sooner but honestly, I didn't think I needed to, until now. Everything below the cut.
GoT
When I post anything GoT-related, I am talking about the showverse only. This is why I do not include "asoiaf" in the tags of each post. While using the same characters and universe that GRRM created in ASOIAF, Game of Thrones is an adaptation. Which is why we don't see characters like Lady Stoneheart, Val, Gryff, or Dacey Mormont. (I know most of us know this already but I feel the point needs to be reiterated for some...certain stan groups in particular) Same goes for House of the Dragon.
I do post about Daenerys (and will continue to) and I can be critical of her but I still love her. She is actually one of my favorite characters in the show. But while I consider myself a fan of hers, I don't stan her blindly and I can see the mistakes she's made. I will call out her bad behavior while still maintaining my love for the character. I appreciate her dark turn because of the fact that she, as a woman, got to have that arc and make her own choices. It's incredible storytelling that was layered in since season 1 (though the execution of it in the end was botched here and there). Same thing goes for the Targaryens. For example, while I might not be a fan of Daemon, I do appreciate his character and Matt Smith's portrayal.
If I see any ridiculous Dany stan or anti Sansa bs in my travels on here, I'm calling it out. Not specifically to the individual(s), I don't do that, but I do respond to ridiculous claims made about characters, their story arcs, the writing, fandom bs, and the show in general.
SPN
I do love SPN but I am very critical of the series finale. But while being critical of it, I can understand why some decisions were made behind the scenes and it is what it is. It doesn't mean I don't hope that a reboot or continuation down the line won't attempt to fix the mistakes that were made (imho Dean's appearance in the finale of The Winchesters already started that ball rolling in a way).
I have been critical of the Wincest pairing in the past but that has been more about some of the behavior of the shippers rather than about the ship itself. I've also listed why I don't feel comfortable with the ship itself but I also have the attitude of ship-and-let-ship. So I'm not attacking the ship but just stating why I don't care for it while also challenging some of the shippers' assertions of how the show was intentionally going that way for the brothers all along as well as their misunderstandings of Dean and Sam's actual familial relationship.
I am anti John Winchester and will forever be. Any posts I make on this subject is not criticism of Jeffrey Dean Morgan or his portrayal of the character. This is not challenging Jeffrey Dean Morgan's or Jensen Ackles' opinions of the character, but sometimes can be a respectful disagreement (meaning I have a different school of thought on the matter for those who aren't able to grasp this everyday life concept). This doesn't mean I don't acknowledge Dean's, Sam's, and Mary's love for John. While I agree with JDM and Jensen that John did the best he could in that time, he absolutely could have done better and had many opportunities to. Not to mention what was implied that was right underneath the surface of the story the whole time and how it was confirmed starting in season 12.
Imho, the idea of Destiel went canon in the show, not the pairing itself. We only saw Cas' confirmation of his feelings and how it all connected back to Cas' own story line over the years. By Dean not having time to respond one way or the other, I believe the show intended to keep that open-ended and ambiguous. So people can still speculate on his feelings should they so choose (personally, I think Cas was extremely important to Dean, more important than antis feel comfortable acknowledging which is why they consistently do their best to undermine the 15x18 moment and attack anyone who asserts that Destiel is canon).
I am very much pro-Dean (not a stan but a huge fan), pro-Winchesters 2.0 (Dean, Sam, Cas & Jack) or TFW 2.0, pro-Jack, pro-Jack and Cas as family to both Sam and Dean. My posts will usually operate from this stance.
If I see any ridiculous anti Dean, anti Destiel bs, pro-toxic codependency bs in my travels on here, I'm calling it out. Not specifically to the individual(s), I don't do that, but I do respond to ridiculous claims made about characters, their story arcs, the writing, fandom bs, and the show in general.
The Winchesters
I am very critical of The Winchesters but it is not personal criticism of Jensen or Danneel Ackles. I am not critical of it for the sake of being critical or fandom drama; I am looking at it through the same critical storytelling eye I look at everything else. I focus on the story and not anything beyond that. Whatever feuds the fandom drama queens believe are going on between Jensen and Jared, Danneel and Genevieve, Jared and Misha, etc, I am not engaging in any of that nor am I going to allow it to taint my perspective as a viewer.
911
While I have been critical of certain relationships for Buck and Eddie (like BuckTaylor, BuckAli, EddieAna, or EddieShannon for example), I am not completely critical of the female characters themselves nor am I anti them (their characters all served a purpose in the story). Except Abby and that was due to her severe mishandling of Buck. But even then, as long as she stays far away from Buck, I'm good with her and hope she finds her own happiness.
I still believe in the possibility of Buddie but I will admit that the season 6 finale left me dumbfounded, even knowing what was happening bts. So I have not posted as much for this pairing or fandom because I'm waiting to see how season 7 will go.
Speaking of which, I am very critical of the writing of the last two episodes of season 6 especially, not just for Buddie but all of the other characters and relationships as well.
Big Sky
I am very critical of the writing of the last season as well as the push the show made for a certain pairing to happen (Beau x Jenny). It is not criticism of Jensen Ackles or of Katheryn Winnick (I am a fan of both), nor is it criticism of the characters Beau Arlen or Jenny Hoyt (I also love both). I honestly believe Jenny's (and Cassie's) character got shafted in the last season as a bid to stay on the air by the showrunner. And I am very critical of that showrunner and some of the decisions he made that I think sunk the show the final inch over the edge into oblivion.
Celebrities/Actors
While I am a fan of Jensen Ackles's career and try to be supportive, this is not a stan blog. I will not be posting about Jensen's personal exploits (outside of FBBC and a social media post here and there possibly), any gossip/rumors surrounding Jensen, anything about his marriage to Danneel, etc.
I will not be posting anything about Danneel Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, etc.
I only post about people I admire and it's usually in relation to their acting and/or portrayals, or directing (like Miguel Sapochnik for example). I appreciate talent where I see it.

Waging War, An Age of Steam And Sorcery Novel. Chapter 12
“So, what you’re saying is that last time you were in this region was about a week after launch?” Peter asked as they drifted along the road in no particular hurry. Everyone was in or on a mount but they weren’t pushing for a land speed record by any stretch of the imagination.
“Thereabouts, yeah,” Pham replied, looking out at the peaks of the mountains as they approached the foothills. He shuddered before continuing. “Woz has been back, as you can see, but I never wanted to return. Some bad memories buried in them hills.”
“Does that mean we’re close to your starter town?” Dani asked as her horse whickered and shied away from a rock spat out from under Pham’s tyres. “I’d like to see where this bromance began.”
“Whit's fur ye'll no go past ye,” Warren responded, “but we’re not headed in that direction today.” He pointed up towards a speck on a low hill off the main road to the north. “That’s our destination up there.”
With Peter’s persistent lack of transportation situation temporarily solved in the form of a cart being pulled by Pham’s mount, they’d made great time. Peter had initially griped about the cost of the cart, the rickety construction, his misgivings about riding in another vehicle he had no control over, the lack of brakes, the colour of the sky and anything else he could think of because he was in a griping mood that day, but even with the rigid suspension transmitting every bump up through his spine to make his head rattle it was honestly better than being stuck at home in his grandmother’s house.
It was Peter’s worst nightmare. All of his aunts and cousins were visiting from the mainland and all his cousins were girls, ranging in age from two years younger than him to eight years older. The few uncles he had, as most of his aunts were either divorced or had wives, had remained at home. Probably luxuriating in the short holiday, being able to eat and drink what they liked and wander the house sans pants, Peter thought. I wish I could.
Due to the crush of bodies in the tiny house that morning he’d been forced to eat breakfast alone in his room, as all the seats in both the dining room and lounge had been taken, then berated for a solid thirty minutes for dripping milk from his cereal on the hallway floor by multiple women, passed from one to the next as they all had to get their ten cents in. It didn’t matter that it was a tile floor and took the work of seconds to wipe it up. It had been an utter relief that today was a Saturday and he was able to escape the house the moment he could slip away unnoticed and make his way up the hill to his favourite login spot. Still, a portion of the black cloud had followed him. One without any visible silver lining, he still had to return before dark.
An itch on his arm prompted him to check his character sheet, where he found that he’d both learned and earned several increments in the skill Teamster. As virtually every action he took in The Age of Steam and Sorcery seemed to be correlated with a skill, Peter was starting to find that his list was getting so long as to be almost unmanageable. In the end he just sorted it from highest value to lowest and elected to ignore anything that didn’t make the first page. Much like a Google search, he thought. “So, what’s the plan?” he continued out loud. “I was party leader before because I was the only one who had the Geas, but now that we all do, shouldn't one of you guys take over?”
“Depends. What’s your level now?” Pham called over his shoulder.
“Uh, three?” Peter nearly tumbled forward out of the cart as Pham slammed on the brakes. The other two brought their mounts to a more respectable halt.
Pham whirled around in his seat. “How the frak are you still only level three after all that we’ve been through?”
“Take it easy,” Peter complained as he righted himself. “It’s not my fault we’ve staggered from crisis to crisis. We’ve played with our new gear exactly once. The only downtime we’ve had recently has been when we went shopping and even then we were essentially running non-combat quests. Like this armourer we’re off to see. It’s great that we’re getting new equipment - but did it have to be from a shady operator who lives all by himself on a random hill in the ass end of nowhere?”
“Herself,” Warren corrected. “And yes. We are going to need some very specific resistances built into our armours and she’s the only one I know of that can do it.” He spurred his mount into motion again.
“What’s with tall, dark and surly today?” Dani asked Pham, bringing her horse in close to his contraption. “In fact, did everyone take grumpy pills this morning? I expect that sort of thing from Warren, but even Pete’s cracking the sads. Did something happen?”
Pham tapped a gauge on the cluster in front of him as he thought about how to answer. “Pete’s a whiner, I thought we all knew that. Well, when he’s not some terrifying abomination with eyes that are windows into the void between dimensions that is. Netflix probably cancelled his favourite show after one season or something. But what happened to Woz, and me, that happened a long time ago. Woz’s tale to tell, but. Not mine. We weren’t on the best of terms the first time we visited The Archology. Decisions were made. Prices were paid. And not all by him.”
“I’ve said I’m sorry a thousand times Pham,” Warren rumbled without looking back. “I don’t know how to make it better.”
“And I’ve said I don’t blame you. It was the only way.” Pham reached into a pouch at his waist and extracted two small spheres. He popped one in his mouth and expertly bounced the second off of Warren’s helmet with a dull clang. It landed in the dirt and Peter recognised it as a sweet of some sort. “We agreed at the time and nothing changed since then.”
“So, you going to tells us about it?” Peter asked. All the mystery was exasperating him. “Before we walk into the Underdark and face Drow armies with Aussie accents?”
“There’s no Drow, it’s an Ancient dungeon. Look, I can’t do this, not right now,” Warren kept looking dead ahead. “It’ll make more sense when we’re inside the Archology.”
They rode the rest of the way up the mountain trail in silence. The only sound was the creaking of the wheels, the clopping of hoofs and the hissing of the winds whipping through the tall grasses that bordered the road. They’d left the treeline behind long ago and the cold of the breeze that had sprung up was finding every crack in Peter’s armour. His already dark mood soured further. I could have stayed home and had the same experience, the little voice in the back of his head muttered. At least I’d be warm.
Eventually they reached the end of the path where it terminated in a slate hut with a hitching rail outside and a great chimney in the centre of the roof belching black smoke into the sky. It looked like a civilised volcano.
Warren dismounted and secured his mount, motioning for the others to do the same. The second they had, the front door of the hut slammed open, allowing a scorching gale to pass over them. Peter blinked rapidly to re-moisten his instantly dried eyeballs. They waited for something else to happen, but when nothing did they entered the gloomy building. Inside the door the air was even dryer and smokier than what had rushed out, the interior one large open space with a massive glowing forge in the centre that lit everything with a hellish glow. The walls were lined with many and varied devices and pieces of armour. The most normal ones were brass inset leather vests, helms and bracers. Attached to the brass bits were tools like screwdrivers and spanners, some on chains so they couldn’t be dropped, some on actuated arms that looked to be able to move on their own. Again, these were the most normal pieces. The more esoteric items had functions he could only guess at.
A ratcheting, clicking noise came from below a wrap-around workbench on the far side of the forge. The part of the device visible above the worktop looked to be a comfortable leather armchair inside a cauldron. A sleek steam engine sat behind the back of the chair with the smoke stack protruding a foot above where the occupants head would be. Peter was reminded of Thomas The Tank Engine’s evil twin they’d fought beneath Averton, but much smaller. And lacking the murderous intent.
The source of the clicking ratchet extracted themselves from underneath the workbench. A four-armed vision straight from Geiger’s nightmares greeted them. Its black, chitinous skin of its limbs reflected the glow of the forge, and a wasp-like bulbous head protruded from a patchy cloak stained, burned and torn in so many places it barely covered the monstrous form. “Hello there!” it greeted them in an incongruously cheerful voice.
“General K’Gnobeh,” Warren bowed.
“Pshaw,” K’Gnobeh dismissed, waving the arm with the socket spanner in it. “I left the military a long time ago. It’s just K’Gnobeh now, or Armourmaster if you want to be extra formal. What brings you to my neck of the woods?” Were it not for the slightly extended sibilants and pronounced glottal stops, it could be the voice of someone in a London alley trying to sell you a “Rolex” that would stop working before the end of the street.
“Armourmaster, I met you in the first Faction Wars, ‘just’ is not a word I’d use to describe you,” Pham spoke up from the doorway. “It was said you died in the artillery barrage on the keep.”
“We met, did we?” One insectoid hand reached up to tap at his chin while another returned the spanner and socket to their assigned positions on a nearby toolboard. “Wait! The pale elf! Yes, I recall your face. You were the most inquisitive Traveller I’d ever met. Still are, in fact. Did you ever get that mechanical man working?”
“I did, Armourmaster. And thank you for all your help,” Pham extracted his mech from his inventory and placed it on the ground. He polished a non-existent smudge from the domed top proudly. “I couldn’t have done it by myself.”
“You’re welcome, but it is the last you’ll get. That was the deal I struck with your kingdom, few know I lived past that day and none bar the king can know how. Now, come in, pull up a pew and we’ll have a cuppa and speak of happier times.” K’Gnobeh stepped around the workbench and they saw that his bottom half was made from a dark, polished metal that, while it resembled the chitin of his torso, didn’t have the lustre of the live skin. Looking closer, Peter realised that K’Gnobeh’s lower left arm was made of a similar metal as well, the segments cennected by ball joints with a greater range of movement than the natural elbows. K’Gnobeh used those extra degrees of freedom to snag mugs from the shadowed pegboard as he passed and laid them around a small wooden table. “What brings four such Travellers to my door? Not my pretty face, is it?”
The four arranged themselves around the table and watched as the armourmaster poured the tea. Peter still had zero clue as to what species he was, and didn’t want to offend by guessing. He took a tentative sip, expecting tea made in a forge to taste metallic, but found it an excellent Assam blend that didn’t even need milk. Warren dumped four lumps of sugar in and then topped the cup up to the brim with moo juice.  Pham added a tot from a hip flask before offering it around, which everyone declined. Dani just cradled her cup and breathed the steam.
“K’Gnobeh, we’re going to need protection that you alone are qualified to provide,” Warren began, “we’re headed into the Archology. Again.”
K’Gnobeh’s face was already difficult to read, but now it took on an even more inscrutable expression. “Are you pulling my leg? It’ll come off, you know.” When it became obvious that Warren was serious he continued. “You know what’s in there, right? I don’t think, even after all these years, that anyone has ever defeated The Wight in The Black. Travellers have mostly given up even trying.”
“That’s why we’ve come to you.” Warren put his cup down firmly, looking off into the distance as though the walls of the forge had turned entirely transparent. “We know what’s down there, well, Pham and I do. You’re the only one I know of who can make us these.” He pulled a set of blueprints from a pouch on his belt. The scrolls they were written on looked old, cracked and faded.
Pham drew in a sharp breath. “You kept those?”
“What are they?” Dani asked.
Warren flattened the designs out across the table, aligned so that K’Gnobeh could read them. “The Archology was intended as the last holdout of the Ancients in their war against… something. We never found that out. But their defences were on par with stuff in the real world. Physical damage we can soak up with normal armour. Elemental damage can be negated by potions and such. The Ancients had access to something like nano-tech and radiation. After the Wight killed us, I was… obsessed, I’ll admit it, with getting back at it. For what it did to me, and to her. Pham drew up designs for protective clothing, to be worn under armour, but we could never find anyone with the skill or materials to actually make them. Eventually we came to terms with the fact it was beyond us. Max level players with full raid parties have gone in and never come out.”
“And you think this is a good place to grind for levels?” Peter asked incredulously.
“Nothing says you have to go all the way to the bottom,” Pham pointed out, one finger raised in the traditional ‘point of order’ position. “In the upper levels there are some really good grind points, with places to rest and even vending machines with health potions, and if we hadn’t challenged Warren's cousin in a race to beat the dungeon that’s where we’d stay.”
“That’s why we need the protective gear,” Peter nodded, understanding dawning. “In order to beat that ass, we’re going to have to be the first to clear the dungeon.”
“It’s why he picked it, the skunner.” Warren crossed his arms as his face darkened. “Death in that place comes nasty. Even though there’s a chapel on the first layer to respawn, I don’t know anyone who’s ever come back and tried again. He thinks I’m not man enough to see it through.”
“Well, death doesnt’ bother me,” Peter shrugged. “Armourmaster, sir, can you make these for us, please?”
The armourmaster took the blueprints to his workbench and began sifting through drawers and cabinets around the room. “I reckon I can. It’ll take a day or two, but I’ve got all I need here. One issue, I can’t cover your wings when they’re out. Can you fold them in tighter? And do you want your mechanical arm covered?”
Peter wriggled and twisted in his seat, pulling his wings in closer. He tucked the tips in alongside his legs and folded the rest as close to his back as he could. “Can you make the back loose enough to cover them like this?”
“Surely can, and the arm?”
“Covered, please. The less customisation the better, I think.”
K’Genobeh returned to the table with a measuring tape. “I’m already going to have to allow for this one,” he flicked the tip at Warren, “a looser back and a clipped off arm are nothing.”

March 29, 2023
Slept with the aid of melatonin but damn was my sleep intermittent. Yesterday I tweeted how I miss the beach and last night I dreamt the usual, an alien invasion BUT it being in the beach plus to make the moment more dramatic I came out to my family the very same moment that the invasion was happening and Ate Ne was kind of accepting but she demanded to see my phone for any gay shit going on. It was kind of funny minus the intermittent sleep.
Woke up at around 6.30am and won today's Wordle against Eddie. it's one of the weirder words this day. I was just trying my luck to be honest.
Work today was okay. Another whole day Plastics list. Not very eventful. It's boring because it's so repetitive but then you won't find any problems throughout the list but damn is it boring. GOSH's Plastics list won't be excisions and biopsies all the time, I fear. The monotonousness will be missed, I guess, but for now, it's boring me to death and I will be having another whole day Plastics list tomorrow. Ate lunch at the cafeteria with the soft baby girls minus Carla because she's still in the Philippines and it's so nice having almost everyone at the same table. This'll be one of the things that I'll miss when I leave Kingston. Received a small gift from Dani today from her trip to Morocco. Not a big fan of small trinkets but I love the thought that she thought of me while she's away. It's kind of cute. Much appreciated.
Another package from Boohoo Man just arrived today and I'm so excited. I loved my fit in the gym today. Another main character episode and this'll continue on because I kind of went overboard with the online shopping. Went to the gym and did legs and abs and a bit of cardio. I loved my fit. Oversized black shirt but it's actually an xs oversized shirt plus short shorts and I kinda look like a dignified hoe with what I wore. I love it. I love it, I love it, I love it!
I've been hooked with this song that Ate Aika played yesterday during our list. It's called Mayonaka no Door/Stay With Me by Miki Matsubara. It's Japanese and I don't know what the hell she's singing about but I'm here for it.
Bought some groceries and took the bus home after the gym. Cooking lunch for tomorrow. Having Peri Peri Chicken and rice with pease and adobong atay ng manok for lunch tomorrow. I need to bulk up in a sense. The goal is to be a twunk not a twink. Had my protein shake after a query 2 month long hiatus. I have, I think.
Just waiting for my meals to finish then I'll be taking a bath and will be waiting for Eddie to call me to finish off the day. It's a good day, after all.
Today's thoughts? Not much really. My mind's been calm. No intrusive thoughts lately. It's been days since I've had a dark cloud hovering above me and to be fucking honest, it's nice to be able to choose to dispel my own storms all by myself. Let's keep the momentum, self! Also, writing really helps. I couldn't have achieved my state of mind right now, albeit it's too early to say, without writing.

Daenerys Targareyan: The Path Towards Madness.
Okay let's begin.
Intro: I read book 1. And then, I binge watched seasons 1-6 after season 6 finale. By that time, I knew all the major theories like L+R=J, dark!dany, targ!tyrion etc.
So, I was paying extra attention and these are some of the obvious moments where I felt they showed Dany's mad side show. Some points, you may find valid. Some points you may find silly and over-reaching. In any case, this is what *I* felt.
Feel free to have discussions. Appreciate positive critisism. However, just yelling/abusing will not be tolerated.
1. Lack of Empathy
Her obvious lack of empathy when her brother was killed.
I did not expect her to save him. I did not expect her to mourn him. I did not even expect her to cry for him. I did, however, expect a reaction, any sort of reaction, when someone close (despite him being an abusive asshole) dies that suddenly and that violently.
Tumblr media
2. Her facial expression during Drogo's speech.
"I will kill the men in iron suits and tear down their stone houses! I will rape their women, take their children as slaves and bring their broken gods back to Vaes Dothrak!"
Tumblr media
3. During her Breaker of Chains phase, she conviniently seemed to forget that she used to practice not only slavery, but also pillaging while she was with her khalesar.
Master Illeryoi owned slaves. Her brother owned slaves. She was gifted slaves to teach her how to please the Khal.
Her husband was a war-lord and her khalesar constantly raided and pillaged villages. They killed men. They raped women. Remaining alive women were taken as sex slaves and later sold. That was their way of life. She saved Mirri Maz Duur and several other women from the fate of gang rape and murder but they were still dragged along side the khalasar as slaves. In books, the reason MMD was not sold was so that she can assist Dany during childbirth.
4. The burning of Mirri Maz Duur (MMD)
This is going to make sense to a lot of people. But confuse the fuck out of many. But let's see.
In colonized countries, we have a term called "Savior's Complex". It is where a colonizer raids a country, steal its riches, impose extreme taxing, destory most of its heritage and then expect praise for bringing something (could be education, technology, architecture).
Dany takes the complex another step above. She not only expects gratitude from an enslaved MMD while dragging her along with her khalesar with sole purpose of assistance with childbirth, she also expects her to save the life of her husband. The war-lord whose khalesar raided her home, pillaged her village, killed her countrymen, raped/killed her countrywomen, dragged remaining alive women along with the khalesar to be sold later. Despite all this, Dany expects gratitude from MMD for her life. This flawed logic however is thrown back in her face.
"So, tell me again exactly what it was that you saved?"
"Your life."
"Why don't you take a look at your Khal? Then you will see exactly what life is worth, when all the rest has gone."
This is an old age tale of revenge. Khal raided her village. She took revenge on them for destroying her temple. Dany burned her for it.
What completely bamboozled me in this fandom was how much people hated MMD for what she did while completely making Dany the victim in this scenario while forgetting that MMD was the orginal victim who was not only an enslaved prisoner of war, but also gang-raped victim of her khalesar's doing.
5. Ser Barriston's words.
Ser Barriston in Mereen, tells her to treat injustice with mercy. She replies that she will treat injustice with justice.
Another quote by Ser Barriston: "He gave people the people the justice he thought they deserved."
Justice and what people in power percieve as justice is often very different.
6. Daenerys' justice for the crucified slave children
She did that by choosing 163 random Great Masters and crucifying them to avenge the 163 slave children. This seems like justice. But is it, really? They never recieved trial. They were never proven guilty. Like Hizdahr Loraq said, some of the masters were not in favor of crucifying children and tried very hard to stop it. Who knows how many other good masters she crucified?
This is a direct parallel to Ser Barriston's words about Mad King Aerys: "He gave people the people the justice he thought they deserved."
7. She stopped slavery only when it benefitted her.
Some of you, while reading point 6, may have thought, "They were SLAVERS! So what?!".
Well, while choosing 163 masters, Dany decided that all Masters are her enemies. She decided that all of them deserved punishment. She decided that they were guilty just for engaging in slavery while conviniently forgetting that if that were the case, she should be the one in the first cross.
8. She burnt Great Masters without even investigating who were behind the Sons of Harpy's attack.
After Ser Barriston's death, we again get to see more of her twisted sense of justice. By her own words, "Who is innocent? Maybe all of you are, maybe none of you are. Maybe, I should let the dragons decide."
It is not supposed to be called justice if you punish (and a cruel punishment, at that) without even caring whether they are innocent or not.

9. "You are a conquerer. Not a ruler."
Time and time again Dany proves this to be true. She conquered Yunkai and left immeidetely. The slavers took back the city in no time. She closed off the fighting pits and refused to open them despite being told that participants will be free men who enter willingly. This is where ruling comes in. Any place she conquered and freed, she failed to put something else to keep up the economy. She collapsed the economy so bad that slaves were selling themselves again.

10. Wrongful imprisonment.
Dany finds that Drogon has harmed children. The correct response is to either train or punish the dragons. She, however, imprisons the two dragons who werent at fault while Drogon ran free. Does that mean she is not responsible for whatever terror or death Drogon caused to wherever he flew off to? What exactly does imprisoning Rhaegar and Viseryion get her?
What kind of justice is it where the accused is free while the innocent get prisoned for association. Again, feeds into the twisted justice train.
11. Twisted Justice. Hipocrisy. Again.
While many men were fed to dragons, Hizdahr Loraq was imporisoned. He begged for mercy in terror. She also decides that she will show her respect for Meereen by marrying a member of one of its great families. For a woman who was forced into marriage and "sold like a broodmare", she sure didn't feel any moral dilemma in making a terrifed man betroth her. His death though, proved that he was not at all involved with Sons of Harpy and he was imprisoned for nothing.
12. Burning POW's
Burning Tarly's (father and son) was a direct paralell to her father burning Ned's father and brother alive. You cannot hide behind "It was a war. She gave them a choice." No matter what defenses one can attempt to give her, killing (forget burning) POW is a war crime. So is forcing prisoners against their own side of war.
Tumblr media
13. Defending cruelty in path of justice
She killed Tarly's and defended that decision, by saying that was necessary.
When Hizdahr asks her how many men will have died to achieve her goal, she says "They would have died for a greater cause." She is talking about destroying cities and sure, that must be for a greater purpose.
When Tyrion reminds her that about what her father planned to do when she said she wnated to burn Mereen to the ground.. her response was "This is different,". How, exactly?
"The easiest way to defend cruelty is to say that it is part of the destiny."

14. The insinct to burn down cities.
By s8e01, she has wanted to burn down cities thrice. Meereen - once. King's Landing - twice. Both times, she had to be talked out of it by her advisors. The fact that her first instinct when her plans were failing was to burn down cities. Direct parallel to Aerys wanting to destroy king's landing because he thought there were traitors everywhere. The fact is that a person can surrond themselves with good counsel. But it is not necessary that the counsel is always heeded. Which is what happened to Aerys. He was going incresingly mad for months and his counsel members hid the fact from the outside world because they thought they could control the madness. We all know what happened in the end.
Since s7, Dany has been becoming increasingly paranoid about Tyrion's loyalty and increasingly more frustrated with every loss. How long before she decides not to listen to them anymore?

15. The entire collonialist/white savior imagary presented in Essos.
It is amazing how most of the fandom either ignores it or is just unaware of it.
Though this point doesnt parallel anything to the show, i just found it extremely cringy. I am sure members of most colonized countries would. I cant even beging to describe how cringy that mysha scene was.
16. The typical white priviledge mentality.
She wants to inherit her ancestor's throne and power. But she doesnt want to repent for her ansestor's sins and betrayal.
17. Wrong sense of entitlement
She truly believes that she is entitled to the North's fealty. She asks Jon Snow not to judge her based on her ancestors and in the same breath asks him to hold up the vows of his ancestors.
But, whatever vow the Starks made to the Targareans was broken the moment Aerys decided to burn the Starks. The fealty was made on promise of protection. Technically, any member of the houses that Aerys burnt, is no longer accountable to the vow.
Still, she expects everyone to uphold their fealty but refusing to accpet that her father broke that fealty when he decided to burn the vassels (whom he promised to protect) alive.
18. Savior Complex
Some parts of Dany reminds me of how missionaries work.
"Will your God punish me for not praying to him if I did not know about him?"
"No."
"Then why did you tell me about him?"
I believe one thing about Daenerys Targareyan. That she truly wants to help people. That she truly wants to save people. But her problem is, she wants to be the one to save people. She doesnt seem to understand that some people dont require saving.
She talks about freeing the world of tyrants and in the same breath refuses to give North the independence that they demand in solidarity. How is that not the definition of tyranny?
This is Westeros. I am not expecting a democracy and free elections. If she wants to be a conquerer, then she can be one. If she wants to bring to bring together the 7k, she can. What she cannot do is talk about destiny, talk about a wheel, talk about breaking the wheel, and and then do the exact same thing her ansestors did years go by spinning the wheel so that she is on top.
19. She was smiling when she saw that her dragons terrified people of Winterfell.
20. "They eat whatever they want"
Is that really the correct way to respond to people are already scared/cowering over the arrival of dragons? To people who have never seen such beasts before? Did she forget that few seasons ago "whatever they want" that Drogon ate were children?
Tumblr media
21. Jaime's trial
She made Jaime stand trial and was heavily leaning towards punish him despite the fact that she knew what her father had planned and what Jaime Lannister had done. She openly spoke in favor of the Mad King in front of Northern Lords. When Tyrion intervened, she publically breated him and questioned his loyalty. Further adds to the Mad King's paranoia and unwillingness to listen to counsel.
22. Jaime Lannister
Not only has he tried to kill her, he has also questioned her intentions twice. The only living person who knows about Mad King more than anyone is perhaps Jaime Lannister. When he questions Tyrion, "Is she really different? Are you sure?" in a sceptical tone. If he doesnt trust her or thinks she had the Targ madness, then I am willing to bet that she probably does.
23. Her decling human connections
the show seems adament in making her seem alone. Like a stranger in her own home land. In an episode full of emotional reconnections, tenderness, friendships and relationships, she is shown all alone. In later episodes, she is incresingly shown alientated: Theon coming to fight for the starks despite being her bannerman, death of the Jorah, Tyrion's withdrawal.
Tumblr media
24. jorah was her mercy.
She had shown jorah mercy despite his betrayal. She cared for him and most importantly, completely trusted and listened to him. When she felt no remorse about berating Tyrion and strongarming Sansa, jorah urges her to forgive tyrion and to try and make amends with LAdy of Winterfell. And, she listened to him. He is the only advisor she fully trusts and listens to without having to worry about wavering loyalties. And jorah's death is going to be the acorn in Ice Age that started the avalanche.

<<2 episodes left. will add more after next one airs.>>
This is not to say that she was an evil character. She was a good person with good intentions and bad execution with a twisted sense of justice and destiny. But, the journey to hell is paved with good intensions. Dany was a character who had the potential to be great. But she was always headed to doom. She is a good person whose downfall will be due to pride, ambition and obsession with destiny. She will chose her fate with a sound mind but a flawed personality. Her story will not be heroic, but tragic. Not because of what she was, but because of how she could have been.
