Hello, anon! Firstly, I'm glad you liked the fic! Thank you for giving it a read. Secondly... I don't even know where to start lol.
First thing, I don't want you to think you need to know everything about hockey to be into the hrpf fandom. There are a lot of us who know very little. Secondly, (and this is a thing for most forms of rpf fanfic, if not all) please do not ever share rpf stuff in a public space where the actual people can see it, especially if the author hasn't consented. That's, like the biggest no-no.
Other than that, have fun! The way I see hrpf is that these are characters with the names of real people attached, and we can mess around with the characters as much as we want. Do I like to say that Vince Dunn would be a good boy for Adam Larsson? Absolutely. Do I mean the real, actual guy? No, because I don't know anything about him.
There are a lot of fun pairings in this fandom. Like, a LOT. You can have enemies to lovers (Leon Draisaitl and Matthew Tkachuk or Sidney Crosby and Claude Giroux), teammates in love (Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, Patrick Kane and Jonny Toews, Vince Dunn and Adam Larsson, plus like seventy others lol), and lots of other fun stuff. Explore and find the pairing you like! There are plenty of incredible fic authors who have lots of gorgeous works written for all of these.
There are some parts of hrpf that I believe the fandom actually made up (and are therefore pretty unique)! There's goalie nesting (goalies collect teammates' gear and make a little nest with it, kind of like bower birds), rookie kneeling (rookies kneel for veterans, could be sexual or nonsexual), winner's rooms (winning team gets to choose a player from the opposing team to do anything with, usually pretty sexual, good for enemies to lovers), and plenty of other little tropes. The folks in the hrpf fandom are wonderfully creative!
If you're looking to write hrpf and find yourself bogged down by all the lore behind various pairings (a specific Tweet from nearly a decade ago, a room shared at the Olympics, a comment made in an obscure interview, etc.) don't be intimidated! Beautiful hrpf fics can be written while knowing very little about the players. The hrpf community is super positive and doesn't hold it against you if you don't know everything about two random players and every interaction they've ever had. Those are fun little details, but they're not necessary.
I could go on and on, but I think I got most of what I can think of right now. I'm so glad you decided to give the community a try! We're happy to have you. :)

What’s your least written fandom right now? And who’s your fave character from it? Talk to me about them!! Please!!!!💕💕💕💕
Now this...this is such a great ask! Thank you sooooo much for allowing me this! So, there's actually five fandoms that I have for this blog that have never gotten a single ask sent in that I remember. I write for them, do posts for them that aren't asked for. Those posts get likes, and in a couple cases, reblogs, so I know I'm not writing to completely empty fandoms! Just never get requests for them! And I do love these fandoms and the characters, so let me rant here just a bit!
So, I've never gotten an ask for Ronin Warriors! I do love all the characters, but I'm biased as fuck, because I've been self-shipping with one of the characters here since I was 11...seriously, for well over a decade, I've found solace in little stories or in headcanons or fantasies with this character and they've really grown with me, in terms of self-shipping, over the years as I've grown and found myself.
That cutie there? That's Rowan Hashiba! I just have always loved his character. He's wildly intelligent, which any reader knows I always appreciate in a character. He's such a loyal friend, another soft spot of mine, but as a character comes across as both very stupid-smart and as a bit of an eccentric at points. I find him fun, funny, and there's something about him that makes me wildly curious about him, makes me want to think up and imagine his early life, what makes him tick, what makes him happy and sad, what he goes on to do with his life, etc.
I've never gotten a single ask for Kekkaishi! I have flipped favourites so, so many times. Every time I reread it, I have new favourites, but even during the initial read, I kept finding myself drawn to various characters at different points in the story. Overall though, I love all the Yagyo, or Night Troops, but especially this guy!
Masamori is such a complex, interesting character. He's got a very morally grey side to him, despite technically being a good guy. He's got huge, gaping character flaws, but he's also got a really big heart. He's a huge contradiction in a lot of ways and I could really see him being the villain in another story, typecast in that way, but at the same time, his role in the story of Kekkaishi as being on the side of good, but being unafraid to do bad things in the name of good?? It makes for such a deliciously fascinating character!
I have never gotten an actual request for Blush Blush! Which is sad, because it's such a fun and addicting game and all the guys are wonderful, for the most part)! There truly is someone for everyone in Blush Blush! My favourite though? Definitely Garret!
Just look at how cute he is! I love the visual interest of him and there's a really great contrast with him, a trope I always fall for, of this really gentle giant type character. He's usually very unintentionally funny and he has some of the best dialogue in the game to me and he just feels very sweet and fun!
I've also never gotten an actual request for GetBackers! Will I forever keep writing about it, despite not getting requests? Yes. Yes, forever. I love the anime so much, it was among the first I watched and it really does have that nostalgia and impact for me, for all its flaws. While I self-ship with Ginji, and am not ashamed to admit it because despite what large sections of fandoms say, it's perfectly normal and healthy to self-ship, my favourite is actually Haruki Emishi!!
Known as the Fresh Blood Joker, this guy is badass. Like, his blood is literally fucking explosive and how cool is that?? And he fights with a whip that's made out of the hair of the women in his clan! Though he was initially introduced as someone who turned traitor to his friends, there were reasons. And he did snap out of it, once he worked through the feeling of being abandoned by those who he cared about. He loves a good fight, but he's also a really good guy, someone who just wants to make people smile and laugh. Also, has some truly horrible gags and lines that always make me laugh.
Lastly, I've never gotten requests for Class of the Titans, though I do know there is still a very small fandom out there for it! It's an old cartoon but I swear it is so much fun and just a really interesting, light watch! I love all but one of the characters so picking a favourite was really, REALLY hard! But I settled on this cutie here!
I really did feel a draw to Odie's character! Again, another very smart guy, but someone not really taken very seriously. He comes from a friendless background and I do feel like he was a bullied kid, and I really connected with that part of his character and love how loyal he is to his friends now that he has them. There was also this really great episode where it seems like he turned traitor, but it was really just this fantastic long-con because Odie - he's always playing a couple steps ahead.

what is your problem with tiktok or booktok and colleen hoover lmao its not that bad surely
the fact that it actively promotes overconsumerism, the way it sells books to you by just playing into already heavily milked out tropes with very specific character niches that are seen in every book nowadays and how the reading is just seen as something aesthetic or a part of the "it girl routine" maybe? if those are enough reasons for you?
does the fact that these books are the first things you see when you walk into a bookstore not bother you? when you ask someone for a book recommendation they'll follow it up with "its a romance slow burn enemies to lovers". it's always about the aesthetic of the book, how many lines can you take out of context and post as a compilation of your super cute romantic annotations page on instagram. no analyzing the book, no theories, no symbolism or meaningfulness at all. how people stand reading those kind of books and still feel any kind of emotions over these flat as hell books with no world or character building is genuinely baffling to me
no one seems to know about actual literature anymore, which not to sound like a boomer but i think its definitely true. there's always been trend cycles, i agree such as the harry potter craze from the 1990s to the 2000s and the dystopia hunger games/maze runner/divergent blast in the early 2010s but tiktok has just.. shortened these cycles so much. as a result, people like our darling colleen hoover whose written around 46 books since 2015 (according to google) try come up with as much fresh content as they can as quickly as possible for the readers (see overconsumption). the fact that this lady outsold the bible is not outstanding to me, its fucking concerning.
and after all that, the result is badly written books with characters who're about as dimensional as a piece of paper, overuse of tropes, read like they've been written by a toddler, toxic-ass relationships being romanticised, very unnecessary sex scenes and countless other things. seriously if i wanted to read about the kind of stories hoover tells i would just open a wattpad account.
this isn't to say that all booktok books are terrible. i'm trying to highlight some of the flaws i find in authors like colleen hoover, emily henry, taylor jenkins reid, ali hazelwood, sarah j maas and elena armas. some of their works are quite decent :) six of crows, thsoeh, tsoa, circe, daisy jones, where the crawdads sing etc are some books which i think everyone has heard of if theyre active online which were actually nice reads. also i am BEGGING u to reach out of your comfort zone and read something different like non-fiction or fantasy or one of the classics for once if you only read booktok like seriously it might be hard but just do it for the love of god!!

uhh yeah pretty much. it's usually how detailed the idea is and how many different branches it's gonna have. I do always still feel like a wizard when I guess correctly

it's all the in between that's the fun part, bc it's different everytime. even if it writing the same idea, it's always gonna be different from someone else. the anticipation of it all, knowing how it's gonna end up and watching all the pieces fall into place over and over again....it's just Fun

dialogue. I love dialogue so much. description just doesn't come as naturally so I like it less dkdhsjjds tho it is still very fun, especially when it's the main focus of the story with very little dialogue. mmm. tasty

like. they have their uses and I do love making the timeline funky but sometimes they are definitely the lazy way out OFJAJDJSJ

this is literally different for every character ksbdjsn if they don't sound like themselves. doing things they wouldn't do, and u haven't given a good reason for why they're doing this OOC thing. I love characterization so much, it is definitely a big passion to get characters Right so when they're not,,,,

fanfiction? or like a legit pro published work? cuz uh either way? do whatever the fuck u want skdhsjsh. sometimes the vibe is dialogue to start!! sometime it's exactly what the story needs

write every day. forreal. it doesn't matter how much u write, but write something everyday. it helps build the habit and legit makes it easier to start

5. Do you have any works where you refuse to reach a certain relationship landmark, for one reason or another?
So, Prometheus and Corinthian never explicitly tell each other "I love you". That's an intentional choice - their relationship transcends that, and I wanted their relationship to feel a little less "human" than some of the others. Technically, they never even explicitly began a relationship, they just sort of... drifted into it.
8. Have you ever written any friendships that could've easily become romantic relationships? How did you navigate it?
I tend to write a lot of very close friendships in my works, mainly because I myself am very close to my friends and I find those bonds to be very important. I do feel like if Jasper were interested in women, they could've easily entered a relationship with one of their derby sisters, since they've got a lot of the same dynamic as they do with Kyle - the rampant teasing, the underlying care. And while it's not romantic, I could easily see Indie and Lita in a QPR
15. Are there any relationship dynamics/tropes you would never write?
I really don't like possessive or controlling relationships, and I don't intend to write them. Really, anything with a major power imbalance, especially if that power imbalance is emphasized. There are times when it can be done well (which is true of a lot of tropes), but I'd never write it myself. I prefer to write characters who see each other on equal ground.
16. Are there any relationship dynamics/tropes you enjoy reading about, but wouldn't want to write yourself? Vice versa?
I do enjoy a good darkfic once in a while, and every so often I'm in the mood for an unhappy ending, but I don't really enjoy writing them myself. I don't know why, it's just not what I prefer to write. I'll put my characters through all kinds of torment, but it'll always end on an uplifting note if I can help it.
34. Are there any well-known fanon relationships (not canon), that you just can't stand?
I'm not big on Corintheus in the Sandman fandom (the whole creator/creation vibe is flying a liiiittle too close to the sun for me), and I've seen some people putting Peter 1 and Peter 3 from No Way Home together romantically, which also rubs me the wrong way. People can do what they want, this isn't a callout post, but it's just not my cup of tea.

To say we are overwhelmed would be the understatement of the year for sure. This challenge was so incredible, the fics we received were spectacular and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the positive and supportive space that we were able to create with your help. During such a crazy time in the world, we hope that this was able to distract you, even just a little, from the harshness of reality, and bring you some level of joy. We received an astounding forty-seven (47!!!!!!) fics in our anonymous collection, that were submitted for voting, as well as four (4) amazing fics that were added to our non anonymous collection following prompts from this event, bringing our fic total to a mind blowing FIFTY ONE (51!!!!!) fics! We honestly cannot even begin to express our thanks to all of you for putting in the time and hard work to share such creative, exciting, well written pieces of fan fiction for this event, and we hope that you all enjoyed it as much as we did! Zenith (The Androma Saga) by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings
Hey everyone! It's been a hot minute since I've last written to you guys. I haven't read a whole lot, only 3 books so far this year, but I'm ok with that. I read for pleasure, and for myself after all!
So Zenith... If you don't know what this book is about, here's a brief synopsis... It follows our main character, Androma or Andi as she's usually called by her team of marauders. Andi and her team get caught up in a quest to save the general's son, but along the way, past relationships resurface, and a war that they didn't want to get caught up in threatens to swallow them whole.
**This review may contain some very small details of the book, which could be viewed as spoilers if you haven't yet read it**
Now... to be honest I had very (and I mean very) low expectations going into this book. If you've been with me for a while, you'll know I read one of Lindsay's books called The Murder Complex and I haaaaaaated it. I am also not the biggest fan of Sci-fi, but I'll touch on that later. Furthermore, I wasn't sure how the writing and story telling, this being Sasha's first book, would turn out combined with the bad experience I had with Lindsay's previous book. However, I'm happy to say that my expectations were exceeded!!!! I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. I wanted to know what was going to happen, and I did not see the plot twist coming.
However I do have some problems with this book. Firstly, the characters. Androma is a cut and paste version of Celaena Sardothien. This makes me really sad because I love Celaena! To me, she's the perfect amount bad ass and sensitive. She's a well rounded character. She has flaws. Andi on the other hand, is a bit... How shall I put it... One dimensional? She has this whole "I'm a fierce af warrior, I'm the Bloody Baroness and I will kill and destroy you. I want to see you die!!!" but then on the other hand she has that fake sensitive side, where she mourns the losses of those she's killed and views herself a monster. This is just kind of confusing I guess.
And Dex... he was just too cliche for me. It seemed Sasha and Lindsay were trying too hard to make him that "handsome and strong, misunderstood-hiding-secrets-lover-boy" type of character. When he and Androma had their moment halfway through the book, when they basically mutually say that they've had their time but they can no longer share a life together, I was like whaaa? Andi has found out the truth that he was keeping from her, and they obviously have some sort of feelings for each other, yet they don't want to give it a second chance?
My least favourite character was actually Gilly. Sorry, but I don't think a 12 year old cutesy-on-the-outside, but hungry-for-death-and-murder on the inside, is realistic whatsoever. I don't read many books with younger siblings or characters in them, so when I do I'm very picky. I hate when they are represented as annoying. And to me, that's how Gilly was.
One of my favourite characters was actually the AI, Alfie. I found myself lolling when he and Memory were having their little flirty moments. I hope we see more of him in the sequel, although I am a bit confused as to why he was destroyed? Like, Valen has altered DNA? So his mind controlling ability, or whatever, isn't natural then? Or was the altered DNA the Zenith thing that Nor created? So Is Valen actually not evil, and is just being controlled by Nor???? Someone explain.
I liked reading from so many different POV's. It made the pacing of the book quite fast and you got to know these 6 (there were 6 POV's) characters better. I actually liked reading into Nor and Klaren, because you didn't fully know what was going on until the end of the book. So I thought that was well done. I didn't have a favourite POV to read from. They were all pretty neutral for me.
I thought that the writing was good. I couldn't tell when it was Sasha or Lindsay writing, which was actually something I was looking for all while reading. I feel like co-authoring brings about many new challenges; what if you don't like how the other author wrote or changed something but they love it? It's great that their words and ideas flowed.
I do think however that there were some repetitive writing styles, specifically these poetic descriptions. They weren't bad in my opinion. It's just nice to see some variety.
Overall I thought this book was really heavy on cliche YA tropes. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm trash for certain tropes, but they have to be done well. Does that makes sense?
I was reading some reviews of Zenith on GoodReads and my god!!! People were being so harsh!! I understand that this book isn't amazing, but sheesh people! I read one person say they think Sasha should finish College before writing another book. Like how rude???? To any young aspiring author out there- YOU do NOT have to put your writing on hold until after you finish your education. Writers write. That's how they practise. Of course, you will learn and get better with an education, but it's not like thats your golden ticket to start writing a book.
For the most part, other reviewers agreed that Androma tried too hard to be like Celaena, but other critiques were that she was boring and one dimensional. Some said the first half of this book seemed more edited than the second half, and after pondering this I can say that I agree. However there was a lot more action in the second half, so not as much room for the fluffy poetic descriptions.
Another critique was that the book itself didn't need to be as long as it was. I definitely think there were some parts that shouldn't have been included. There were like 50 pages left when Andi and her gang went to that Ucatoria ball and I just felt like it was an odd time to be having a ball, and introducing new characters, so late into the book, and nothing was even resolved! I guess, that created the climax, and the last few chapters of the book were super short and easy to fly through. One part that, in my opinion, should have definitely been edited out, was when Andi is reunited with her mother. Firstly, her father had previously said she was ill or something, so that was confusing. Secondly, it seems that it was just put in place to show how bad of a relationship her and Andi had together. That could have easily been done with some sort of flash-back chapter. In fact, the whole family dynamic seemed really strange to me. When Andi is first reunited with her father, she has these mixed emotions, about wanting to be strong in front of him, and also wanting to crumble and be held by him. When she meets with her mother, she is so infuriated that she threatens to skin both her mother and father alive, and hang their skin like a flag from her spaceship. I mean!!! What!!!!!
Something else I need to touch on is the fact that so many people were offended that Sasha was handed this opportunity "on a silver platter". Sasha makes youtube videos in the booktube community, so obviously, she has a following and can easily get her voice out there. I have to admit, when I heard they were # 1 New York Times Bestselling Authors, I rolled my eyes. If every one of Sasha's subscribers bought her book, then of course she'd become a bestselling author! But I'm not upset about this. Sasha loves books! Her youtube channel (Abookutopia) is dedicated to that. To me, I have so much more respect for someone who's written a book from the youtube world, if they actually genuinely enjoy reading and writing. I would much rather read a book from a youtuber who makes videos around bookish topics, rather than some beauty guru or daily vlogger. So there. Get over the fact that her following probably had a big hand in getting her and Lindsay that title.
Writing is a process. And it takes time to find your voice. I think this book read too much like a knock-off Throne of Glass book. I'm kind of confused with myself because in a way, I think that's why I liked it?? LOL. I'm not a sci-fi person, but this book didn't really read like a sci-fi book. It was totally more fantasy just set in space.
I think that's all I can say for now.
3.5-4/5 Stars.
If you are getting into Fantasy/Sci-fi (that isn't super heavy on the Sci-fi lol) then I'd really recommend you read this! If you have read tons of YA fantasy and are looking for something different, well, this may not be the book for you.
