Keeper
A doll that tends to a lighthouse. Its witch is a sailor, exploring the oceans for lost magical artifacts. The light must be kept running at all hours of the night; its witch could return anytime, after all. So the doll performs its duty every night, without fail. And without fail, its witch always returns.
This time, however, something feels... different. The doll can feel it in its core; its witch is in trouble, somewhere out there. What can it really do, though? It is bound to the lighthouse, to the island. So it does the only thing it can. The only thing it knows how to do. It keeps the lights on. It waits, and maintains its vigil. Eventually, one way or another, its witch will return. She promised, after all.
Days turn into weeks. Day after day, night after night, everything remains the same. The lighthouse. The sea, stretching out into the horizon in every direction. The inescapable loneliness. Still, the doll waits. She will return. It has to believe that.
It has been 9 months since its witch set out on her latest journey. Still, things are the same. The doll is beginning to go mad. Surely its witch couldn't have forgotten about it here? Surely she wouldn't... abandon it? Would she?
Then, one night, something finally changes. The doll has a visitor. Not on any ship, but from the very heavens above. The clouds part on the horizon, and a radiant beam of light shoots from the lighthouse towards the sky. Descending down, following the beam, is an angel. With a burning halo and wings as white as new fallen snow, the angel speaks to the doll's fragile mind.
"Small one. We have seen its devotion to tasks given by the one it calls miss. We have watched it for some time. Its toil, its suffering. ...Come. We shall bring it to the one it seeks, the one it has kept vigil for, for so long. We shall take it to its witch, if it will come with us."
The doll's eyes widen and fill with tears. Could this angel really take it to its witch? Could they be united once again, as they were meant to be? Hesitantly, the doll reaches out to touch the angel. Hesitantly, the life fades from the doll's eyes as it ascends to a better afterlife. Its witch is waiting for it. It mustn't keep her waiting.

Might as well drop my list of avatars for my extra tma statements.
An astronomy student who found a Vast Leitner and started seeing these constellations behind everything. He eventually started sending people into this vast expanse of empty space when people touch him or make eye contact with him.
A person who became a Desolation avatar after the loss of her child and the abuse her husband gave her after the loss of the baby.
Marionette, the Stranger doll who owns a theatre where the actors lost their identities.
Beekeeper Corruption avatar who is starting to become the hive. Cottage core lesbian taken to an extreme.
Lonely lighthouse keeper. I know, I know, this is just me. But I have to.

🤎💐🤍🧸 for Violet & Hamish, please!
Scout!! Thanks for making this ask game dearest! 😘
🤎 How do they comfort each other?
I think that its physical touch, as a mentioned in a previous answer they just like being near each other so I think that provides some comfort just on its own. I think they're definitely the type to do wordless, quiet comfort for each other.
💐 What’s their favorite “domestic bliss” moment? Do they cook/clean together? Do they like to go out shopping together?
I already answered this one here!
🤍 What is their favorite or most admired quality in the other?
For Hamish: I think he admires Violet's dreaminess and interest in the world. He liked that she focused on more than just the minutia of day to day, that she dreamed about things that might be. I think his parents were very literal people and he felt stifled by them. So finding Violet who always believed in his ideas was like a breath of fresh air. Hamish at his core always wants to be trying new things, and Violet has always encouraged that and I think her ability to support him and see those things herself is very important to him. As well as her interest in literature and the world, their two oldest's names really point to that.
For Violet: I think she admires Hamish's bravery, she isn't the type to make strong decisions and I think she's very grateful Hamish does that in their relationship, even if it sometimes means he doesn't communicate as well. I think she felt nervous about the world even if she was intrigued by it and finding someone to protect her was very important to her.
🧸 BONUS! Include one of your favorite moments between them.
Oh gosh this is a little hard with these two, since when my story started it was pretty different than it is now! In a lot of ways I wish that I had spent more time with their love story prior to starting, but I wasn't that type of player then.
I think I'm going to say that I've always imagined the moment that they met, Violet had come into town with her father from the Isle and Hamish happened to be in the town running an errand. I think that the schoolchildren of Brindleton would have known about the lonely lighthouse keeper's daughter out on the island and probably made up stories about her. I like to think that the first moment he saw her he just immediately knew he was going to marry her and when he realized who she was he immediately introduced himself and asked if he could write to her. I picture their courtship as being mostly through letters and they just fell in love with each other's thoughts. I've also always imagined that as soon as she left that day he immediately began planning to buy Sable Farm so he could marry her and provide a home.
Want to ask another Love Day question? 💘

🦑Caught to Order🦑
[ao3] Word count: 1006
Greater Marrows new fisherman ponders his abrupt arrival. A horrifying find jars him from his thoughts.
(Based off the start of the game so hopefully no spoilers!)
The sun had begun to dip towards the horizon, painting the sky in swathes of yellow and orange. The sea slowly but surely had grown more agitated, now lapping aggressively at the sides of the fishing vessel. I lamented there was only one lousy rod on the loaned ship. It had done the job well enough so far, at least.
With nothing better to do, my mind drifted back to my abrupt arrival. The crash. I couldn’t remember much - the memory was blurred at the edges, distorted. It didn’t make sense. I could handle a boat, couldn’t I? The lighthouse hadn’t pierced the thick fog as it should have. As the mayor had said - “It was shining right at you”. In daylight my new vessel had passed the scene of the accident. The rock wasn’t there anymore. Or maybe it was - no - had it shifted? Damn it. It was as if the ever-present fog had muddied my own mind. The townsfolk almost seemed scared of it. The lighthouse keeper certainly was, the perpetual scowl etched on her face. Or maybe that was just when conversing with me - an outsider. Everyone else had been friendly enough.
I was jarred out of my thoughts by the telltale thrashing of a fish. The blanket of night had crept in - how long had it been? I stumbled towards the line. The catch fought with an unnatural strength and rhythm. Finally, I reeled it in, scarcely believing my eyes, choking on my own breath. The rod landed with a clatter, slamming the writhing thing onto the deck.
It should have been a squid but it wasn’t. Not entirely.
The mantle was intact but it soon ballooned into something grotesque and twisted. Soon the maroon head of the squid became ribbons of flesh, engulfed by a green glowing gelatinous sack. It was a miracle, or perhaps a curse that it was alive. Malformed tendrils writhed beneath it. No tentacles, eyes, or mouth to feed itself. Just a carrier… of… something. The smaller viridescent cores were suspended within a mass of goo. I dared not touch it. The blood - ichor more likely, it was thicker than blood - around the hook was black.
Panic seized my chest. I didn’t know what to do in the face of such an aberration. My face burned with heat despite the cold shards of fear that pierced my lungs with every breath. My ears rang in alarm, head began to throb the more I dared look at it. This was wrong. All wrong. A distant, distorted wail of a foghorn brought me back to my senses. I made an effort to slow my breathing with the rising and falling of the boat, consoling myself with the knowledge I was not far from Greater Marrow. I would return to solid land where I could steady my nerves and get an appraisal of this thing from the fishmonger there. Yes, I would be interested to hear his appraisal. He had asked for an odd fish. Not something like this- I took another steadying breath. It was just a fish, nothing more. As I turned the ship to leave, I saw it had stopped moving. It had died seconds since it was removed from the water and yet it continued to twitch and pulse out the corner of my eye. I doggedly focused on the lights of the town, revving the engine louder than needed to try and drown out my own thoughts. No matter how much it made my skin crawl it was just a fish.
The fishmonger did not seem surprised when the bell announced my arrival. He politely averted his gaze at my state of disarray, bushy eyebrows lowering to cover his eyes. His expression soon shifted when I presented my find to him, hands shaking. He knew I’d found it. This was far from a mere ‘deformity’ as he’d described. I was seized by a pang of guilt. I shouldn’t have given this to him, I shouldn’t have. I knew he intended to eat it. Eat it! He hadn’t been subtle about his intentions at all. I could be killing this man for all I know-
I had scarcely been listening to what the man was saying, his appraisal of it, head bobbing in approval. He picked up the specimen with no fear, feeling it for a moment before bringing a sharp knife to its side and splitting it cleanly in half. Green and black mingled on the wooden counter. An air of morbid curiosity settled as he picked out a square of fabric - a delicately patterned handkerchief, white with crimson thread - from within the sludge. I tried to focus. He paid me generously from the catch, asking I send more of these monstrosities his way should I find them. Bile burned my throat. The world swayed precariously beneath my feet as if I was still at sea.
In the blink of an eye I found myself back in my boat, in bed, suppressing the urge to tremble. I would not be able to sleep if I did not find peace now. Shapes and shadows danced tauntingly across the cabin window, until a man manifested from the darkness. My stomach lurched, the cold shock of fear spreading through my system. His face was entirely obscured by the contrast of the glare from the light inside the cabin against the dark sky and sea. I scrambled to my feet. He leant against the frame, unperturbed by my horror.
“I know what you took to the fishmonger. And I’ll be clear - I know he extracted an artifact from it. I need to inspect it. But not here. Meet me on Blackstone Isle. Head out of this bay and cut South. I have a business proposition for you that you’ll want to hear.”
Suddenly he stepped backwards, the night enveloping him like a cloak. He did not wait to hear my response. His final words rang in my ears, haunting.
“I’ll be waiting.”
Sleep did not find me that night.

This is a bit out of the way but I was wondering if you guys could help me find a certain twitter thread about, like, a huge family dinner with the mdzs characters where "who is going to pay the bill" devolves into hijinks and a lot of politeness judo. and ends with nie huaisang going "i paid the bill while i was in the toilet"

2. Hey there 👋🏻 some time ago I read an unfinished wangxian pirate fic I can’t seem to find anymore. I remember that there was a protective veil between the sea and the land that was simultaneously a veil between life and death somehow (I think it hasn’t been explained properly yet in the fic) and LWJ is stationed at the could recess lighthouse to keep the light burning and WWX washes ashore half dead. LWJ saves him even though he realises he should probably kill him or turn him in. LWJ thinks he is running from the YLLZ but he is running from Wen Chao. Does one of you know that fic?

7. HI HELLO I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SO LONG FOR THIS ONE MDZS FIC
ok real quick before i continue, there's a trigger warning for attempted suicide so if ur not cool with that then np :)
but yeah wwx gets transfered back to the time where he was studying in cloud recess, and he comes to it when lqr is calling him. he goes "I cant do this again" books it and throws himself off a cliff. HE SURVIVES!!! the lan sect are devealoping a "mind healing" technique (basically therapy) and he does that. the jiang sect gets letters to go to cloud recess and wwx resigns from the Jiang sect bc he believes that everything Madam Yu said was true.
I think there was jiang yanli's interlude where she got the letter and overheard Madam Yu say smth along the lines of "so what that brat had the urge to fling himself off a cliff for attention" and jian fengmian agreed with her :/ Jiang siblings are very conserned ab wwx. oh and jin zixuan is there and escorts yanli around for a walk and its rlly sweet
in the mean time, wwx decideds k!lling himself isn't the answer and that he should at least stick around to make sure nothing that happened in the original time line happens again. i think it had like 20 chapters and was incomplete, and the summary says smth like "wwx wakes up in his teenage body and decidedly does not take it well" but I cant remember :(( thank you sm i rrly want to find this fic pls tag me if u do :) @vanitasthepainting

B) the other fic is where Wei Ying and Lan Zhan have a one night stand of sorts and Wei Yong ends up having a little girl and the jiang siblings are really supportive and protective and they keep the little girl a secrer in fear that the Lan sect will take her away and a few years later she is found out and their is a discussion confernce in qinghe and Lan Zhan gets all jealous because the little girl is climbing all over nie Mingjue.
if you could find those for me it would be very thankfull 😂🥰 @fanfic-discussions

9. Hi! Thank you for all the wonderful work you are doing, this blog has brought me a lot of joy. I am looking for a fic where JC and WY fell out after trying to save JYL  from drowning when she was caught in a net underwater. And WY had to keep diving down to give her air, and he was really exhausted and delirious afterwards. JC got really angry at him. And the fic is about how JC had to do something similar and realised how difficult it was and tried to reconcile with WY. Hopefully that’s enough info, I can’t remember much else! Thanks very much :)

13. Hi! I'm looking for a smut fic I read some months ago. (If smut requests aren't OK, please ignore this message!) What I remember is that it was a modern AU where WWX was LWJ's pet (like, for sex, not a literal animal). I have an impression that it might've been some type of omegaverse (WWX definitely wasn't fully human), but I can't find it anywhere in those tags, so maybe it was something else? I've been trying to find this fanfiction but i don't really remember the name but there's this one scene i remember where lwj is taking peanuts from a bag from someone (which i think is wwx?) just to not speak with a lan elder (I also remember that in the summary it says that the lan elders hate/despite lwj for using the rules for an advantage or something like that) I hope this is the correct format for asking, Have a great day!

I remember that it's about wwx who died and came back either as a ghost or a fierce corpse during the sungshot campaign, I'm not sure if he died when he was thrown into the burial mounds, but I remember that he helped them win the war and then passed on peacefully after, I remember that they knew he was a ghost too.

19. Thank you for all your hard work! You guys are awesome. My problem is that I’m horrible at tags. Using them, reading them like I’m supposed to, paying attention for instances such as these…
I’m looking for a modern wangxian covid quarantine fic. I know wangxian are attending university in America. WWX must take courses continuously in order to keep his scholarship/stipend, maybe even his visa status. I think he’s majoring in medicine. In order to maintain his status and meet the requirements, he enrolls in LQR’s livestream ancient poetry class (thinking it would be relatively easy). He spots the beautiful but cold and aloof LWJ in his zoom class window and immediately develops a crush on him. LWJ is instantly annoyed with the student that leaves the voice-altering bunny filter on during every serious class discussion - even if he does make intelligent observations and salient points. WWX spends too much time talking about his crush on LWJ to his quarantine-trapped flatmates, JC and NHS. I think LQR picks WWX to be LWJ’s poetry project partner and they spend a lot of time alone together in a separate classroom screen where LWJ plays the guqin for WWX to draw/paint him playing for their assignment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

So one of my favorite things about Silksong is speculating, so I'll just toss this out for your consideration: what if Lace is an entity similar to a Kingsmould? Obviously not one to one since we have zero evidence PK was in Pharloom, but I'm eying her unnaturally organless waistline, light weight despite great strength and encased-in-silk body and it makes me wonder if she's a bit of void trapped in a silken body. The main oddity is she speaks, but she might be 'made' a different way..?
Admittedly part of this is me thinking a little uneasily about how a kingdom partially named 'loom' has this person who wields most of their trappings of authority or propriety (silk, gold, the crook-shaped pin, everything but the bell really) who clearly seems to be operating with her own agenda against its authority, and she's literally named after a high-end textile product, in a way that would seem to imply she is a "product" of Pharloom.
.
That's an interesting concept! I haven't really thought much about the idea of Lace being a construct before- most of what I've been musing about with her is that she might be some sort of relinquished orphan given to the Church, or one of the bugs that was used as an alternate means of providing silk once the Weavers fled (currently I like to hc her as a wing-docked silkmoth, in the wild west of per-release speculations). If she is a construct though, then an entirely new realm of possible horrors has opened to us, such as how she's been made, and what she's seen that has turned her against her creators- if her core is made of void, for example, then that means that the Void Sea stretches way farther than Hallownest, and that the god/church of Pharloom has found a means to harness it, which likely involved a great deal of personal sacrifice or danger to do so. PK was able to harness it for kingsmoulds relatively easily, but he was a god, and the state of the lighthouse keeper implies that a regular bug's prolonged exposure to it would not end well. The fact that she speaks might also mean that she's not entirely void as well, since the kingsmoulds and vessels are almost entirely mute; a rather morbid possibility that springs to mind is the idea that the church might have submersed bugs (living or dead) into void to wipe the consciousness of the previous inhabitants from the shell, then bound their bodies in enchanted silk to control them and contain their core. That would explain why Lace could speak, as she's not formed almost entirely out of void, and it would explain why she's got such an odd shape to her. I'd suggest that she might also just be a bug who's got a naturally thin waist, like a wasp, but we've seen examples of that in-game and they don't look at all like she does. We also have Sharpe, who I would hesitate to ever think of as a kingmould-like construct if it wasn't for the fact that he's apparently going to use his proboscis as a whip, which I am sure no flesh-and-shell bug would be able to do normally.
And then there's her dialogue, and the fact that she's working against the higher-ups. If she was forced into servitude by the Church, it would make sense for her to be trying to fight against it, but if she's a construct made by Pharloom to serve the kingdom's purposes, her rebelling sets an even more sinister tone. That implies that her creation was either sinister enough that learning of her origins set her against Pharloom itself (like my proposed method of bugs being killed in void and then having their corpses wrapped in enchanted silk to 'reprogram' them), or that she's seen something else under the Church's orders that was so appalling that it broke her free from her program entirely. There certainly is an aura of extreme control and exploitation going on in Pharloom from what we can see of the kingdom in the trailers, but if a church construct broke free to start killing the spiders they captured, believing death to be a mercy compared to what comes next...? That's serious. And if Lace is a construct made to serve a purpose, one who broke free of said purpose to follow her own goals, then that might be something that affects Hornet in turn- she has an entire history of slaughtering her own siblings because she believes that their deaths would be a mercy compared to what they had to face, after all. Facing someone of a similar origin who has the same idea that she did as well as the ability to actually voice her dissent with her creation might lead to a lot of self-introspection that Hornet herself was trying to avoid, or pinned down as an inescapable necessity.
Really, out of almost everything else that's coming in Silksong, Lace is the character I'm the most excited for- we've seen so little of her, but that delicate elegance and noble ideals with the undercurrent of feral sadism is an extremely compelling introduction to her character. I've seen some people who dislike her because of it, but imo, the fact that she's so wickedly delighted by her battle with Hornet and assumes that death is the best option for her points to someone who's so thoroughly chained that she doesn't believe there's any other way out. Compared to Hornet, who is the very definition of headstrong, wild, and bound only by her own principles, and that makes for a very interesting contrast between the two that I'm super excited to dig into

“Oh! It’s here. Behind you! Haha.”
Lusien turned around, finding the salt shaker he had misplaced now dangling in front of him. An inky black tentacle was wrapped around the shaker, one belonging to the scientist standing on the opposite side of the kitchen island, who was looking at Lusien with amusement.
“Thank you.” He nodded, and grabbed the shaker off him to pour a small amount of salt into the soup he was preparing for the two of them. Vallis responded with a pleased hum, and retracted the tentacle back into his body. A mutual friend of theirs had tailored him a new labcoat, one that had a hidden slit in the back to allow for easier movement for his eldritch appendages.
That friend must not have visited for a while, nor had his other friends, hence why Vallis was spending his evening with the lighthouse keeper. Lusien didn’t mind, of course, and it was probably better for him to keep an eye on the scientist than to leave him to his own devices. He was quite content to let Vallis hang around in his living room and work on one of his puzzle books while Lusien worked on his own paintings, and neither seemed to mind the lack of conversation. Vallis was perfectly capable of filling the silence with his own humming, but Lusien had noticed there was something different to his tone. As if he was singing in a way that deliberately would not affect the blueblood’s mind. It was calming, but in the sense that he was relieved the hybrid had been taking steps to be more mindful of his abilities, more than being musically forced into a state of calmness.
What was less calming, however, was the demands of Vallis’ appetite. He had bought fresh fruit early this evening, and over the course of the night had watched the seadweller idly consume every piece down to the very last individual grape, and not discriminating between any part of each fruit. Banana peels, apple cores, the skins of the citrus fruits and the heads of strawberries, all gone. Lusien would have preferred to have kept those for compost, but he found it hard to fault Vallis for it. He wondered if those tentacles he was capable of producing (summoning? extending? He’s unsure exactly what the correct phrase was) acted on their own, sensing some form of easily-accessible sustenance in the room and dutifully delivering it to the hybrid’s mouth in order to keep up with the demands of the body. Vallis was somewhat apologetic as well, stating with a laugh that he didn’t realise how much he had eaten until there was nothing left.
Lusien couldn’t fault him either for another reason. He could tell that the seadweller was troubled.
He remembered that Vallis mentioned a while ago that he’d had a falling out with Celise, and as far as he was aware, the rift between them still had yet to be solved. It wasn’t Lusien’s place to ask, nor could he really do anything about it. Celise always ignored his existence, and on the few occasions he had visited the library they had acted dismissive towards him. It seems that they simply did not care about anyone who didn’t match their own personal interests. Vallis didn’t seem to want to reconnect either, knowing that it was probably a lost cause... Or knowing now that one simply cannot mend a broken relationship with an apology alone.
They were at an impasse, just as Vallis was with Thrixe. And while the seadweller acted like he didn’t mind, spacey as always, singing and humming while he worked on his own projects, Lusien could see the melancholic aura permeating from him. Imperceptible to trolls who lacked his specific kind of psiionics, and undeniably the reason why Vallis was spending more time with him recently. He was lonely.
He couldn’t solve this problem, that was something for Vallis and Celise to work out amongst themselves, and he hadn’t been invited to do so anyway. But, there were things he could provide for him. Some company, and, after giving the pot of soup one last stir and shutting off the stove, a warm meal. He served himself a bowl, making sure to get an even amount of stewed meats and vegetables, then stepped aside to allow Vallis to enter the kitchen.
“Help yourself,” Lusien said with a nod.
“Oh! Thank you!” The seadweller glowed happily, and, true to his voracious appetite... Took the pot off the stove and carried it over to the dining table, swiping the stirring spoon from the bench with a tentacle to use instead of a standard sized utensil.
Lusien suppressed a sigh. It doesn’t look like he’ll have any leftovers for tomorrow.

BioShock/Sinking City: The 1960s and the Return of Rapture
Continuing with my BioShock/Sinking City crossover, we’re going into the time period between BioShock and BioShock 2, 1960-1968, as the Jolene family (Jack took his mother’s last name) live their lives in the strange city of Oakmont, Massachusetts.
After getting settled into their new place in the Grimhaven Bay lighthouse and into his job as the lighthouse keeper, Jack begins looking into the remnants of his father’s company, Ryan Industries, on the surface. Using documents and connections obtained from Tenenbaum, he begins taking these pieces of his father’s legacy and putting them back together. Another gift he inherited from Andrew Ryan’s genetic code was a gift for finances, and he intends on using this gift.
Along with helping the former Little Sisters to adjust to the surface (and aiding the orphanage staff in caring for them), Tenenbaum also begins studying the “Innsmouth Look”, a genetic condition exhibited by the “Innsmouthers” and passed along to their descendants, and the strange genetic compositions of the “Wylebeasts”. Despite her promise to utilize proper ethics in her research, Jack and Liz keep an eye on her anyway.
In November of 1962, shortly after the Cuban Missile Crisis, Jack and Elizabeth finally got married. With the world having just escaped nuclear war and holocaust, they both figured that it was time that they tied the knot. Charles gave Elizabeth away, Tenenbaum was the maid of honor, and Sally, Masha, Leta, Annabelle, and Daisy were the flower girls. Robert and Rosalind Lutece made an appearance as witnesses.
On November 22, 1963, both Jack, Elizabeth, and Tenenbaum were in Dallas, Texas, having gotten a former, adopted Little Sister out of a bad situation. Rather than head home to Oakmont, they decided to stick around and see the President. When Liz saw movement in a dark window, she used Peeping Tom to see what it was. To her horror, she saw not one, not two, but THREE would-be shooters, all at different vantage points, all them waiting to take out JFK.
She alerted Jack and Tenenbaum, and the three of them went into action. Between Tenenbaum’s experience in skull-drudgery and stealth, Liz’s invisibility, and Jack’s strength, the three shooters were thwarted before they could kill JFK. The trio stayed long enough to see the would-be assassins carted off by the authorities before they left to catch their flight.
A little while later, the nation was shaken to its core by the arrests of multiple figures in the military, the CIA, and the government itself, including Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson. Turns out, while one of the shooters, Lee Harvey Oswald, was a lone wolf acting on his own, the other two were sent by the CIA and the US military to assassinate President John F. Kennedy in a plot to prevent his interference in pursuing their own agendas.
Jack, Liz, and Tenenbaum were contacted shortly afterwards by the Kennedy’s themselves. In private, John and Jacqueline Kennedy thanked Jack and Elizabeth Jolene and Brigid Tenenbaum for saving his life. The two families strike up a friendship which aids them both greatly; the Jolenes have the ear of the Kennedy family and their connections, while Jack provides a better example for John to follow in his relationship with his wife.
In the fall of 1964, Elizabeth begins her studies at Oakmont University. About the same time, the Paris Peace Accords ended the Vietnam War, dividing the country into North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Hailed as a hero for peacefully bringing the Vietnam War to a close, JFK is re-elected to a second term in the 1964 election.
In 1965, Liz gives birth to her and Jack’s first biological child. They decide to name the healthy boy, “Booker DeWitt Jolene”, after Liz’s dad and first friend. Masha, Leta, Sally, Annabelle, and Daisy are enamored with their new baby brother. Tenenbaum wonders aloud which, if any, of Jack and Liz’s plasmids and gene tonics were passed along to Booker; she is expressively forbidden from trying to figure out.
In 1966, Jack’s efforts to bring Ryan Industries back from the dead finally pay off. While just a ghost of its former self, the money generated from his father’s old company allows Jack to quit his job as a lighthouse keeper and buy the old Blackgate Manor. Before moving his wife, daughters, and son into it though, he spends a day clearing it of the strange creatures that took up residence following the Flood.
One night in 1967, Jack stumbles across a tall, gangly, helmeted and suited figure attempting to make off with a little girl. He finds himself in a fight for his life as his plasmids surprise his opponent more than anything else. Jack is able to rescue the little girl, but the diver escapes back into the ocean. The resemblance between the helmeted figure and the Big Daddies of Rapture is too much to ignore.
A little research, and Jack, Liz, and Tenenbaum realize the horrible truth: There are little girls disappearing from coastal towns and cities all along the Atlantic, and everything points to it originating from Rapture. Andrew Ryan’s Dream, turned Nightmare, has coming back.
Using the connections he’s made and the money he’s acquired, Jack begins putting together an expedition to go to Rapture and stop whoever has been kidnapping little girls. He’s hesitant to let Liz and Brigid come with, but between their protests, Liz’s stealth capabilities, and Brigid’s knowledge of Rapture and of ADAM, he accepts they’re are coming with.
In November of 1968, Jack and Co. reach out to Mark Meltzer, the only man who seems to connected the dots (e.g., the disappearing girls, the strange, underwater lights, and the sightings of the “Mariner”), only to learn that he has vanished. Suspecting that Meltzer is on his way to Rapture, and having finally lost her patience, Tenenbaum steals the submersible that Jack had made for the mission and sets off on a one-woman quest to stop the kidnappings.
In response, Jack and Liz accelerate the efforts to get the rescue mission underway. They were plenty motivated when they were just going out to stop the kidnappings and rescue the girls. Now, it’s personal; they have a friend to save, from herself and from Rapture.
As Thanksgiving approaches, Jack and Liz say goodbye to their daughters and son before departing. As their ship, the Mary Catherine Jolene, approaches the Lighthouse, Liz calls out to Jack from the bow of the ship, telescope in hand. Something just surfaced not far from the Lighthouse, and there’s movement on it.
Thoughts? Hope you liked my headcanons!

The Moth & the Cicada
the loneliness is back the clicking flying bugs and hot summers tired of the grass beneath my feet i need to Move, to do something grand the heat wears away my soul day-by-day until i am a corn husk left by the roadside; unimportant, unfortunate, forgotten in the wake of bright mexican candy string lights and reverie on a gravel path that crunches and is worn to dust underfoot but you make me crave scratchy hammocks and dog-clawed wood you make me want dark summer nights following lantern trails to dark deep pools of cave water to the ends of every earth- nothing has ever been as important as you i promise i will follow like a scruffy dog attached by rope around my neck i'm panting and the crowd is getting thicker the incense burns hot and in the ribbons of smoke, i'm lost surviving on water drips from the ceiling, my hope; i have met few things in my life i, that nightmare half, would hesitate to use as fuel but the Self is a brighter, cheaper wax and despite my best interests rotten apple-cores and turned over metal bins are more than enough for an old shelter pet like me i yearn for my freedom; my paws fumble with my leash till my fingernails catch again, shot miraculously into the air by my unsteady hands i discard my role, and hobble into the whispering crowds thereafter searching for fireworks or an old friend to sit on a creaky rattan pair of chairs with my desires burn bright in the banks of snow my lonely lighthouse keeper the false sea-captain i am my heart a bug enamored by your lightness i want to spend my days with you.
