You Should Read The Ephemeral Scenes Of Setsuna's Journey
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Isekai light novels get a bad rap, and rightfully so. A lot are complete drivel that is strung together by overpowered characters that appeal to a power fantasy and very little else. Finding good isekai series is quite the challenge. Thankfully, The Ephemeral Scenes Of Setsuna's Journey promises to be a proper good isekai, and one that I think people should be picking up.
Yes, I'm terrible for not having posted about either of these volumes as I've read them. I've just been a little pre-occupied with mulling them over and really savoring the process of reading them. As a side note though, this post will only talk about the first volume in loose terms, completely avoiding any talk of the second volume.
Anyways, what's Setsuna about? To answer sort of cryptically, it's about a boy finding his place in a wide world where he can surround himself with family as well as experiences he could have never had before.
Setsuna was terminally ill in his original world. He wasn't alone or living a crappy life by any means, as his family was incredibly caring and loving, but being restricted to a bed for the majority of life is a soul crushing experience. So, imagine how you would feel if you were summoned as a hero to a land of magic and ability beyond belief, but were still crippled by that same illness. Only here, you have no family, you have no one that wants to care for you and ensure you live as good a life as possible.
Or so you thought. As a year passes and Setsuna is nearly "released" from his duties as a hero, a previous hero appears before the sickly young man, offering a promise, 'take my life'. In the most literal sense, the former hero swaps his soul with Setsuna's to give the young man a new lease on life in a new world, and our story begins from here.
It's such a great and emotional beginning to Setsuna's story. We see him hit rock bottom, saved by someone that comes to be an older brother to the young man in hindsight, giving Setsuna a push on the back and saying, "go out there and live.". It's very very strong sentiment, and it's what we see through the entirety of the first volume.
It's all about Setsuna making connections in the world, finding a family, finding people that care about him and will take him in and give him direction in life. A grandfather that carefully watches over his much too strong grandson for how naive he is. The father that struggles with his life decisions and if what he's doing is right for his family. Or maybe another father figure that brings Setsuna out into the real world, alongside a brother that's just a bit difficult to get along with. Maybe even the den mother that gives Setsuna a warm home and the push he needs to leave his home town.
The idea of a found family, and its importance in the development and direction of Setsuna's new life is just felt so strongly in every interaction, it's wonderful. Setsuna was originally bound to the confines of a bed in a hospital room. He hardly has an idea of how to live in the outside world, let alone on his own and in an entirely new world. The slower steps that the young man takes just really help you grasp the idea that Setsuna is groping around in the dark with the help of others to find his purpose and goal in this new life.
And while the story almost always frames it as Setsuna being helped by those around him, it's impossible to not understand that Setsuna leaves a lasting effect on those that come to favor him, and I think that's incredibly great. The idea that only one of the two strangers in an interaction will walk away better for it is silly. These are two individuals at two important places in their lives, it is not one lecturing the other, but the pair engaging with each other. Setsuna learns, but he also teaches.
There's just so many aspects like this that really sell just how great the character development is in the story. Even better is that it's just one facet of it. There is, in a fact, a greater story to be told in several areas, and the first volume is great at illustrating that scope and scale without detracting from the small community with which Setsuna begins his new life.
Similarly, all the little extraneous bits. The magic system is solid and complex, placing heavy focus on individuality and purpose. The guild system aims for chemistry alongside capability, and ties a strong political thread into it as a whole. Warriors and adventurers are shown to be strong and able, rivaling and evening outpacing Setsuna thanks to experience and knowledge. And so on and so forth.
The only thing I can think to complain of is that, much like a lot of other great isekai writers, they feel rushed to get somewhere. So many don't have confidence in the words they weave to form entire worlds that they end up leaving potential on the table. Not that it's something terrible and should be complained about, but just that even in a story as good as this, the author so clearly has more they could have given, maybe even wanted to give, but were limited due to uncertainty, time constraints, or something else.
At the end of the day, isekai is unrightfully a genre, and will force series like Setsuna into being classified as an isekai. But I think anybody that reads will immediately understand the differences. Like every other great isekai series out there, Setsuna uses the concept as a theme to set the stage for the exploration of a story that can use that theme to its fullest potential. And I think that's great, and that people should be reading this series so that we can see more like it.
Oh, and also, there's a beautiful 2 volume manga adaptation of the LN if you want to test the waters.

I’m making a list of light novel I’ve heard, and if anybody has a recommendation please leave it here
LIGHT NOVEL
✓ Genius of a Performing Arts High [ch104] Hiatus.
Summary: After 10 years of dedicating his life to opera ever since he had quit the performing arts high school, he had failed at an interview. Losing his motivations, Jo Yunjae depended on alcohol to live out his days until one day, he had been sent back 20 years in time, to the day before his high school admission.
The reason for his time travel nor the terrible condition his body was in did not matter to him. The one and only, most important thing was that he could still sing, not as the previous baritone but as a long-coveted tenor.
Oh this one has a lot of musical jargons, but you could learned to ignore some of them or perhaps searched up each meaning. But this one is quite unique considering it focuses upon Opera as a theme, although apparently there’s a harem tag (but the mc isn’t really aware of it, more like he sees the others in a fatherly way of sort). It hasn’t been updated for 2 years and currently it’s status is in Hiatus. There is no Manhwa adaptation for it.
✓ If I Fail to Debut I'll Get A Killer Disease [ch423/505]
Summary: A 4th-year student who was preparing for the Civil Service examination, suddenly found himself in an unfamiliar body 3 years ago. As well as a status window displaying a threat in front of his eyes! [Outbreak!] [Status Abnormality: ‘Debut or Death’ Occurs!]
A diary about the transformation of the main character, who was suddenly challenged to be an idol even though he has never been in the industry before due to sudden threat of death. ※Speciality: He used to take and sell idol’s data.
The translation I’ve found only stopped until there. I’ve been patiently waiting for updates and it has been a month since the last one! The plot has a lot of twist on the classic idol take. Currently there’s a newly Manhwa adaptation for it but it’s only in the early stage of 17 chapters or so. If you would like to check it out, the Manhwa name is a bit different from the novel but the sentiment remains the same “Debut or Die”
✓ Superstars of Tomorrow [ch507] Complete.
Summary: Well-known Composer Fang Zhao was in the glorious stage of his career, when the Apocalypse arrived; After finally experiencing the bitter difficulties of a thousand dangers, when the Apocalypse was simmering down to an end, he collapsed; When he opened his eyes, he was reborn in a New World, 500 years after the end of the apocalypse, in the body of a student who had been dumped barely after graduation, who had been cheated of his hard work barely after he started working…
The World of the Future, Virtual Idols PK Real Idols
“Every time background music plays in my head, I feel like there is nothing to be afraid of.” —Fang Zhao
As recently stated, this one has been completed. And there is still no manhua adaptation of it to this day. I enjoy this novel thoroughly, the ride was wild and full of humour! Although the journey started through the works of virtual idol, it doesn’t necessarily confined only there because there’s still the fields of music, gaming, acting, history and military arcs that MC would dominate in would also bring such enjoyment!
✓ Losing Money To Be A Tycoon [ch1670] Complete.
Summary: I really just want to lose money! T_T
Best boss ever, prodigy of the business world, genius creator, visionary of the century.
These are the descriptions used for Pei Qian, President of Tengda Corporation.
Ever since his rebirth, Pei Qian finds himself in possession of a system that rewards him if he manages to lose money.
Instantly, a brilliant idea comes to mind — making crappy games!
“If the game flops, all my investment cost will be lost!”
“How difficult can it be to lose money?”
Indeed… how difficult can it be?
This was an enjoyable ride. I cherished every moment of each chapter I was reading for the entire week. I actually like the concept where they expanded more on the storyline idea of a supposed script for a film or a layout plot for a game because it’s always makes me invested in it and makes me feel like in the shoes of others and what they’re witnessing, the kind of content they’re consuming by the detailed description that I could almost imagine how it would be like. The last couple of chapters makes me so emotional, like this is what it builds up to and the realisation and the decision chosen is just “growth”. There was a manhua adaption of it but it contains rather few chapters from what I’ve heard… I might read it as well as soon as it accumulates more chapters to be read to truly see it all in action, illustrations.

Remarried Empress - By Alphatart (9.5/10)
Tumblr media
I've waited a long, long time for this. I'm not sure if this review will offend anyone, but here I go. I am not insinuating that Remarried Empress is a traditional yandere story. Obsession is not the focus. Especially not during the first season, but longtime readers know the drama eventually boils over. Delusion, denial, and love all clash during the fabulous finale. The line between villain and hero blurs in a beautiful way halfway through the story.
Spoilers for everything (I mean it) ahead!!!
Remarried Empress is well known for its seamless magic integration. Fantasy webtoons are infamous for clunky, wordy spellcasting systems and magic schools with zero charm.
That is not the case here.
Magic is a plot point that has little to no relevance during the first quarter of the story. We get hints. The issue grows. We get drama from the very beginning, from the perspective of a powerful woman trapped in a toxic marriage. The woman in question is the Empress, Navier, who has no magic whatsoever. Magic is an important political power tool. It doesn't magically make you more important. Lots of badly written stories love to give their protagonists fantastical magical powers, as if that power gives you the ability to rule.
This is not the case here.
Navier gains magical powers at the very end of the story. It is part of her happy ending. It is not the reason why she is successful in her political endeavors. Navier loves ruling. She was raised for it, and uprooting corruption gives her joy. Drama and sparkles are not her source of power. She is a borne and true politician who recognizes that the nobility cannot prosper without happy, healthy common people. She receives magic when her duplicitous and extremely loving husband decides she is worthy of it. It's sort of a wedding gift. Yes, it's a very morally dubious part of the story. The magic imbuing process starts without her permission.
(I won't spoil all the details. Don't be too mad at Heinrey.)
Tumblr media
Navier is from the Trovi family. Her family line has produced multiple Eastern Empire ex-Empresses. Magic is on the decline. The Eastern Empire has less active wizards than ever before, and they can't figure out why. Luckily the nation has a steady Empress and Emperor to rely on. Naiver and Sovieshu have a good relationship. She loves him more than he loves her. They mostly live separate lives. They don't even eat together every day, because they are both so busy, but Navier trusts Sovieshu. They were raised together as children. The priest who married them thought they would be different. A rare, happy royal couple.
Tumblr media
Souvieshu ruins that lifelong relationship when we brings in a runaway slave. The lovely young woman, Rashta, got caught in one of the Emperors animal traps! How awful! He takes responsibility for the terrible accident. He carries her to the doctor on horseback the way any decent man would.
He almost immediately makes her his Official Mistress. There is a formal title, as mistresses are common for Emperors. Naiver has to go through a humiliating process. She has to welcome, and give a spending allowance to, the woman her beloved husband is sleeping with. She even has to throw parties for the woman her husband is currently spoiling instead of her.
Ouch.
(Yes. You are correct. It is revealed later that the accident was no accident. Rashta jumped in harms way in a desperate attempt to escape her shackles as a slave. A slave who had a bastard child with her owners son. When said son decided he didn't want to lower himself and marry her Rashta dolled herself up. She ran into the royal woods looking gorgeous on purpose. She would have been a cool protagonist, in another life, but she's just not tough enough to survive royal intrigue. In her desperation she loses everything. It does sound tragic, until you get to know her. Rashta is a child abusing, bloodthirsty, narcissistic tattle-tale by the end of her story. I'm sure you can guess how it ends.)
Tumblr media
Throughout season one we see how integral the Empress is to the East. At first it seems like everyone favors the Emperor, but things are not what they seem. Empress Navier runs a tight ship. She doesn't need to be babied like Souvieshu. A gap slowly begins to grow between them. His incompetence starts to shine bright when he lashes out at his Empress. He blames her for every little problem his Mistress encounters. Including the problems Rashta makes up to cause unnecessary drama. Rashta makes little mistakes that pile up over time. Her allies aren't very strong, and she is never honest with anyone. She talks like a cute idiot on purpose, but that backfires when she can't find a teacher willing to put up with her as a result. She can't catch up to Navier. A genius couldn't. Navier has been privy to national secrets since her youth. Trying to catch up on that much reading...just isn't possible for a regular, but gorgeous, slave. Also, Rashta is desperately hiding her slave status. Rashta starts to copy Navier in obvious ways, and Navier is refreshingly human about it. She hates it. She tells Rashta to learn on her own, and she isn't always diplomatic about it. Her complaints push her into an intimate but platonic friendship with the Prince of the Western Kingdom, Heinrey.
Tumblr media
Heinrey has a special kind of magic. He can turn into a bird. He uses his bird form as an excuse to stick close to Navier, because he's carrying a MASSIVE torch for her. It is not just a crush. He's bitter about being younger than her. If they were the same age he would have gotten the chance to woo her, but Souvieshu was the most convenient and familiar choice for her family. Navier was a couple years out of his reach. He thought he would have to sulk about losing the chance to have her forever, but then Souvieshu stirs the pot. Sidenote Souvieshu is very insecure. He expects his Empress to love him over everything. He got upset when Navier...you know...did her job well. He wanted his wife to be drooling over him constantly or something. It's weird. He is also quite sexist. This becomes more obvious as the story goes on. He treats Rashta like an object, and he loses interest in her after less than a year. That's suspiciously fast. He is only using Rashta to satisfy his craving for cute attention. It's quite pathetic. They both are.
Anyway moving on.
Heinrey "visits on diplomatic business", but in reality he's planning to take over the East. Yeah. That's something. The writing is really on another level. I had no clue whatsoever until later on. He also stole the magic by the way. Yeah. Heinrey is the reason why their magicians just can't cast anymore. An adorable young student despairs before the Empress about her crushed dreams in tears. All while Heinrey is just standing there, in the background, completely aware of the fact that he is the cause of her suffering.
He's a pretty scary guy.
Navier eventually agrees to flee the country and marry him.
Tumblr media
Rashta's lies leave no other choice for her. Rashta falls pregnant. Navier has never been pregnant. As the woman, she has always received the blame. Cough. Sexism. Cough. Souvieshu is actually infertile due to a childhood accident. He, of course, is completely convinced that Navier is the infertile one. Rashta is carrying another baby that belongs to her masters son. She is willing to put an illegitimate child on the throne to get power, because she doesn't know any better. There are certain things peasants just don't know. A magical paternity test exists. It involves droplets of blood and a mixture of special water. After Rashta gives birth to a child that looks nothing like Souvieshu he gets wise. Souvieshu makes Rashta Empress (temporarily) for the sake of "his" child. He always intended to remove Rashta from the Empress seat, as soon as "his" child was seen as legitimate by the court of law. His callous attitude is what convinces Navier to leave. She has always loved her husband. She loved him more than she thought she did. She put up with real pain to support him, but he decided to remove her from her Empress seat. She didn't know he graciously planned to take her back after the divorce, but it doesn't matter.
The incident proves he never respected her, so she leaves with Heinrey to become the Western Queen.
The West isn't really as powerful as an Empire yet, but oh! Wait! As soon as Navier is crowned and by his side Heinrey proclaims that the Kingdom is an Empire now.
How convenient!
Tumblr media
Heinrey is pretty and morally grey, but he is a good husband. He worships the ground Navier walks on. When rumors about her infertility start spreading he does not give a crap. He has ways to fix the issue if it's true, and if she's actually not the infertile one he's ready to kill whoever started the story. His bird form is cute enough to be a marketable plushy. It's shitty that he lied about being a bird for the entire first season, but Navier needed comfort. He provided it how he could. As a pet. Yes I know it's weird. Navier wasn't willing to befriend him at first though. He had to use his adorable bird body to bring her guard down!
Wait.
That makes him sound worse...
He's a good husband though.
I swear...
Tumblr media
This is Christa. The young dowager Queen of the newly formed Western Empire. Heinrey's sick brother kicked the bucket. Now Heinrey is Emperor and he's brought a foreign Empress home. Slight problem. Christa is in love with Heinrey. She uses a spiked love potion, and a man who is madly in love with Naiver, in an attempt to seduce him and destroy the couple. Christa is pathetic, like Rashta, but she's a little smarter. Her love for Heinrey is the weakness that brings her down. She kills herself after she boldly claims that Heinrey slept with her, in an attempt to become his Mistress. Heinrey produces proof that the affair doesn't exist...and Christa doesn't recover mentally.
Fair warning.
Remarried Empress gets darker and darker until the ending.
Heinrey throws a party, to celebrate Navier's pregnancy, right after her death.
Suddenly I don't think Heinrey is cute anymore...
Tumblr media
This is Grand Duke Kaufman. He falls in love with Navier. He accidentally used a love potion he was experimenting with. It turns out that the potion effects are extra strong when you already have a crush. Kaufman never intended to act on his feelings, but the potion eventually turns him into a madman.
His story ends after he attacks the Empress.
I think you already know how that ending looks.
Tumblr media
Rashta ties everything together really well as a villain. She looks like an idiot, but for a commoner who didn't even know how to write she does pretty well. Her idiotic copycat act is a distraction. It cleverly hides the mastermind behind the scenes. Heinrey. Navier had no clue Heinrey was in love with her when she accepted his proposal. She accepted it because she was desperate to rule. She didn’t want to watch Rashta take her place, and Heinrey took advantage of that.
He sweeps her off her feet. They live happily ever after, but the pile of bodies behind them is quite steep.
(Souvieshu realizes he made a mistake as soon as Navier marries Heinrey. He starts drinking heavily. He travels to the West again and again to beg her to take him back. He quietly goes insane and he eventually loses his memories. He lives on thinking Navier is still his fiance, and everything is the way it used to be. Navier will always love him. That's his drunken dream. When his memories return he begs yet again and he says he'll accept Heinrey's children as his own, because they have her blood. Her goes seriously insane in six different ways. He also basically forgets Rashta ever existed.)

The Apothecary Diaries | Gush!! 🩷
heya!! so i’ll prolly be doing more of these gush-y review-esque posts about stories that i’m consuming in multiple media formats!
if you’ve been following along with my wrap-ups, you’d know that i binged the apothecary diaries manga in december (i’m currently waiting on vol. 11 to be released). i’m also watching the anime weekly (i can’t wait for temple rescue coming up!!). i also have the light novel on hold from my library so i can read ahead!! 😅
the story isn’t all that new or innovative if you’re an avid enjoyer of historical chinese (east asian) court dramas. however, it is very compelling and intriguing, and the pacing of reveals is pretty good as well!
the characters are instantly loveable and are the reason for my current -tiny- hyperfixation with the story. i just adore maomao and jinshi!!! 😍😍😍
if you’re in the same camp of being swept by your overwhelming love for these two idiots, please let me know so we can gush together!! 🤭🤍
🖼️ collage by me! 😊

Raven of The Inner Palace Vol. 3: The Ao God
Tumblr media
This cover image is pretty sneaky, very sneaky, even. But truthfully so is the story. It can take you through the motions slowly but surely, letting details build up in the background before open the gates and allowing all of the information to hit you in full force. It's a really good volume that builds on the uncertainty provided by the ending of the second. Not a lot to talk about, but it will be spoilers, so be warned.
This volume got me in a lot of different ways, but I think the most interesting thing is the Ao God. It's a very curious and interesting thing, because it can make you wonder "why did it only show up now?". But in reality, there's two answers. The first is that, like the Raven's elder brother, it awoke/became interested due to Jusetsu's ongoings/changes. The second, it awoke due to the sibling's spat at the end of the second volume. Both of which are very interesting and show how in tune the realm of the gods is with one another.
Regardless of how it awoke though, the Ao God is very interesting as its implied to exist within the human realm, just at the bottom of the ocean. The reveal behind Ui was super interesting and surprising though, considering the Ao God's origins.
Even crazier is how they weave a deeper story with it to provide interesting history. It's stated in this volume that the Raven's brother wants to help Koshun save both Jusetsu and the Raven, but that he doesn't know how. Well, thanks to Ui and the Ao God there's potential. Jusetsu potentially being a part of both the Ran Dynasty as well as the Hi Dynasty from nearly 2000 years ago presents potential in how to save her, as she's able to separate herself from the role of Winter Sovereign.
Let's tone it back down though and look at the bigger picture. The use of weather, flowers, and birds is incredibly interesting still. The Ao God (and by extension the Saname clan due to the jewel they hold) is able to influence weather by inducing droughts or heavy periods of rain, which are featured heavily in this volume to allude to the fact that the god has been awakened.
Then there's the Gardenia that Banka, the Crane Consort, places in Jusetsu's hair. What's the meaning? Well, it's a bit of a double edged sword. While it can equate to trust, it can also be a symbol of knowledge past what you should have. The knowledge in this case being that Banka, thanks to placing the flower in Jusetsu's hair, know that she dyes it. An incredibly subtle bit of foreshadowing for what she does later on in the volume.
And finally, the birds. The star raven is the symbol of the Owl, or the Raven's older brother. We see it featured somewhat frequently in the volume, showing how Owl is watching over his younger sister, and actually providing assistance to Jusetsu. Is it possible that Owl understands the intentions of the Ao God and those that convene with it? It's hard to say, so let's move onto something else.
The way that Shirakawa is able to create stories that feel like they appear out of thin air is really something. Was the connection between Ishiha, Injou and Hakurai, and the Ao God a surprise? Yes and no, as we learnt a little bit about Ishiha's circumstances early on but don't think much of it. It's not until Hakurai talks about buying Injo that all the pieces truly fall into place. Similarly, the reveal between Eisei and Jusetsu. We've known for a decent chunk of time about the histories of each, but this volume puts the pieces together for readers.
And really, I could keep going on and on about this sort of stuff. How the volume continually speaks to the weakness of the Raven and the struggles of Jusetsu, or that the more Jusetsu interacts with others the more her facade crumbles and that that's a representation of Jusetsu taking control over the Raven with her body, and so on and so forth. It's a wealth of carefully crafted details that form a colossal spider's web of interconnected information, and it has me incredibly curious to see how the next volume goes considering how far we've come with this third one.

do you have any fav trans egg yuri (I know this isn't really part of ur duties but saw you talking about yuri stories & couldn't resist, we're always on the lookout for more)
no need to worry! i'm always happy to answer questions unrelated to my duties, ESPECIALLY when it comes to things like yuri!
so like i mentioned in the tags of my previous yuri recommendations post, i haven't read a TON of yuri. but that being said! i do actually have an answer to this one!!
me and Madame Curator recently finished reading the light novel series I'm in Love with the Villainess. and while the main yuri couple of Rae and Claire are both cis, there is a SECONDARY yuri couple that actually features a trans character! i know this isn't quite what you were looking for probably, but i do highly recommend the series in general!
SPOILERS FOR VOLUME 2 OF THE LIGHT NOVELS BELOW THE BREAK
so, basically! in volume 2, it's revealed that Prince Yu Bauer isn't a prince at all. in fact, she's actually a princess! Rae's best friend, Misha Jur has had a crush on Yu for a while, so when she finds this out, she tells Rae that she doesn't care what gender Yu is and that she'll love her just the same. Misha, Rae, and Claire work with Yu to allow her to not only come out, but also transition successfully!
additionally, volume 4 features another trans character who also is able to successfully transition! i won't go too in depth with that one, since she's not part of a yuri plot line, but it's worth noting!

Kirby: Mysterious Incident on the Pupupu Train! - Chapter 10: The Truth ofthe Pupupu Train
Previous Chapter
The Pupupu Train arrived at the resort planet Baspa as scheduled and a lot of people were waiting at the station for its arrival. It was completely decorated with flowers and cheerful music played. There was a loud cheer when it slid into the station. The doors opened and the passengers stepped off one by one.
“Welcome, visitors from Dream Land!”
“Welcome to Baspa!”
A beautiful bouquet was handed to everyone who stepped off the train. Everyone from Dream Land was enchanted by Baspa when they first saw it.
“What a beautiful place! There’s a lot of flowers that aren’t in Dream Land!”
“There’s forests and an ocean? I wanna go play now!”
“I want to relax in the hot springs!”
York was the last one to get off the train. He looked so dejected that there was no longer any sign of an imposing railroad tycoon within him. A lone woman walked up to him.
“Welcome home, dear.”
When the woman called out to him, he jumped and shouted.
“What are you doing here?! You have to stay home!”
“It’s okay. I feel good today. I can’t sit at home today when this is the first time in a while that you’re coming home.” The woman smiled. She was slender and very beautiful.
The passengers looked at each other.
“…who’s that?”
“Isn’t that Mr. York’s wife?”
“No way! How could he have such a beautiful wife!?”
The woman leaned close to York and asked. “Dear, have you found the slumbercumbers?”
York panicked and tried to keep the woman quiet.
“H-hey! Don’t talk too much! You go home and I’ll take the passengers to a hotel…”
“No, hold up.”
They were approached by King Dedede.
“Did you just say slumbercumbers?”
When asked, the woman nodded curiously.
“Yes. And you are…?”
“I’m King Dedede, the great ruler of Dream Land. You York’s wife?”
“Yes, but…”
“By any chance, are you also part of York’s plan…?”
“Stop that, Dedede.”
Dedede was cut off by Meta Knight, who then spoke to York.
“Explain everything in detaill.”
“There’s nothing to talk about…” York replied awkwardly and tried to leave, but his wife then spoke.
“Dear, did something happen?”
“N-no, nothing did…”
York was flustered.
His wife then spoke. “It seems there was a miscommunication. We’ll talk about it. Since we won’t be going there, everyone else can go to the hotel…”
She stood in front and started walking. York gave out a pitiful cry and ran after her.
“Hey! Wait! You have to return home! I’ll explain everything to the guests… wait for me! Please!”
Kirby and the others looked at each other before chasing after the couple.

When everyone settled down in the hotel’s hall, York’s wife spoke.
“What kind of explanation did my husband give all of you?”
King Dedede answered. “He was trying to smuggle a dangerous vegitable called the slumbercumber that is only grown in Dream Land.”
“Dangerous? Smuggle? Oh my!”
The wife seemed shocked and looked at York, who was sitting next to her with astonished eyes.
“Dear, why did you tell them such a lie!?”
York’s face turned red as he spoke. “I couldn’t explain it well and… well… they misunderstood…”
“Misunderstood?”
Dedede questioned back.
“What do you mean?”
York’s wife answered. “The slumbercumber is not a dangerous vegetable. It has a wonderful effect of making those who eat it sleep soundly.”
“Yeah, but it can be terrifying if it’s misused.” Dedede insisted.
York’s wife shook her head. “We won’t be misusing it. My husband was searching for slumbercumbers for my sake.”
“Huh?”
“My body is weak because I have a constitution that prevents me from getting a good night’s sleep. The doctors say that as long as I can sleep properly, I will be healthy, but I just can’t…”
“Then that means that Mr. York was transporting slumbercumbers for his wife…?” Meta Knight said.
“No way, I don’t believe it!” Dedede said with a grim expression. “There’s way too many for the wife to eat alone! I guess they were planning on selling them off for exorbitant prices!”
The wife spoke. “If you eat slumbercumbers as-is, you’ll be kept asleep for days. But if you process them with heat, it becomes a medicine that cures insomnia.”
“A medicine…?”
“Yes. There are many people who have trouble sleeping at night. My husband was trying to make a good medicine for people like that.”
Upon hearing that, the citizens of Dream Land were shocked. King Dedede, unable to give up on his doubts, then said.
“That medicine will be expensive to buy, won’t it? That’s how you plan to make a ton of money…”
“No, we can’t make a lot of money. There’s plenty of slumbercumbers that are easy to process. My husband was trying to make a medicine that people with troubles could take for peace of mind.”
“Whaddya know! Sounds like a dang good plan to me! Why didn’t ya tell us the truth?” Bonkers asked.
Burning Leo also shouted. “If you told us from the beginning that the cargo hold was loaded with slumbercumbers, even Captain Vul wouldn’t have done what he did. You had a good plan, and you didn’t need to hide it!”
“That is… well… um…” York was at a lost for words as his face grew even more red.
Finally, his wife spoke. “He’s very shy and stubborn.”
“H-hey!”
York tried to silence his wife, but she continued.
“If he explained the slumbercumbers, he would have to tell you about me. I guess he was embarrassed that people would assume that he was working hard for his wife, so he tried to keep everything secret.”
The citizens of Dream Land started laughing.
“Are you kidding!?”
“There’s a limit to being shy!”
“I was aware, in a subtle way, that Mr. York was not trying to transport slumbercumbers for money.” Meta Knight said.
“What? You’re lying!” Dedede quickly said. “You suspected that York was planning on making a fortune in slumbercumbers, weren’t you?!”
“At first. But I understood after the incident with the meteor.”
“Understood? What?”
“He’s a great railroad tycoon.”
Meta Knight looked at York. He was completely embarrassed and looked down.
“He was willing to take risks to make sure all passengers were safe. Not just him, but also the crew members did their jobs admirably. I am sure that he told them to do their job on a daily basis. Above everything else, passenger safety was a priority to him. There is no way such a wonderful railroad tycoon would engage in smuggling for personal gain.”
York turned red.
“O-oh… well… my employees are just great… I’m not…”
Meta Knight took his hand, and York shook it, embarrassed. Bandana Waddle Dee approached York.
“Mr. York… um… I’m sorry!” He lowered his head. “I said something extremely rude to you. I didn’t realize how you really felt and thought that you were using the Pupupu Train for smuggling…”
“Oh, uh, it’s fine. Please don’t apologize.” York waved his hand in a panic. “It’s my fault for not explaining properly and causing a misunderstanding.”

His wife spoke. “My husband of course planned the Pupupu Train to transport the slumbercumbers, but that’s not all. He loves railroads from the bottom of his heart. He was looking forward to seeing everyone travel freely between Dream Land and Baspa.”
“Y-yeah. I was.” York stuttered.
“So that’s why you let us on the Pupupu Train. Thank you, Mr. York!” Kirby said.
“You can ride the train to come visit Dream Land, too. I’ll let you stay the night at my castle.” Dedede said to York’s wife.
“Oh, thank you!” A smile appeared on her face. “Since I’m physically weak, I had given up on the idea of taking long trips. But I will be able to visit after I get plenty of rest due to the slumbercumber medicine…”
At that moment, the conductor rushed into the hall. “Sir, we have a problem!”
“What is it? If this is about work, it can wait until later. I’m talking to the guests.”
“This is about the guests…” The conductor continued with a troubled expression. “The Pupupu Train can no longer operate due to the damage from the shooting star.”
“…what!?”
Everyone was stunned.
Chilly shouted. “Well, that means we can’t return to Dream Land! What now!?”
“I’m calling the Halberd. We’ll go back to Dream Land that way.” Meta Knight said.
“If we fix the broken part, the Pupupu Train will be able to run again, right? Then we can visit Baspa again.” Walky said.
“…that’s true, but-” York began with a worried look. “I think we need to review the safety of the Pupupu Train’s line to make sure it’s safe. It would be a disaster if an accident like this happened again.”
“Wha? So you’re not restarting the Pupupu Train?” King Dedede asked.
“That’s right… this must be difficult for you to hear.”
“Huh?!”
The citizens of Dream Land raised their voices in disappointment.
“But why? It was so fun traveling by train!”
“I want to travel a lot more!”
“Thank you very much, everyone.” York looked at everyone. “The investigation will take some time, so I won’t be able to do it for a while, but I will definitely start the Pupupu Train again. I hope that someday we will be able to serve you once more!”
The citizens clapped their hands.
“We’ll look forward to it!”
“Good luck with that, Mr. York!”
Before the applause stopped, Kirby shouted.
“Hey, now that we’re done talking, can we start the party? I’m starving!”
“Aren’t you always hungry!?” Bonkers said.
Then King Dedede spoke. “I agree with Kirby! We haven’t even started the party to commemorate our arrival on Baspa! Bring on all the feasts!”
“I want to eat, but I want to explore too! Baspa has woods, and oceans and fields! I want to swim, run and train!” Knuckle Joe said.
“I want to go to the hot springs first! I want to soak myself in the simmering baths!” Burning Leo also shouted.
Everyone rose their voices in excitement. York’s wife smiled and said. “All your wishes come true in Baspa. The party will be by the ocean next to the hot springs, so you can have a feast while playing and relaxing!”
Everyone cheered.
“This is the greatest! I wanna have a barbeque while taking care of my body!”
“I wanna drink Super-Hot Hot Chocolate while soaking in the hot springs!”
“And I wanna eat a feast while eating a feast!!”
York looked at his wife with worry. “You shouldn’t push yourself so hard. Now would be a good time to rest…”
“No, I feel really energetic somehow.” His wife spoke in a bright voice. “It’s like the energy of everyone from Dream Land has been shared with me. Now, let’s go! To a beach party under the blue sky!”
“Let’s go! Let’s go!”
The citizens of Dream Land rushed out of the hotel and towards the beautiful beach.

No you don't understand. I am beside myself here. This was so hilarious to me. They are having their first fight. Except, he's not gonna fight with his wife and she doesn't know how to have a fight! I laughed through like 8 pages straight.
