Now I'm super curious about those anime character influences you mentioned in the Ask. Are there any notable examples in your OC cast?

Yes....…yes there are. :)

(I really wanted to answer this ask for a while but I was unsure how to go about it so I’ll just bite the bullet and put up some side by sides and have y’all judge me cause idc anymore 😭)

Most recent addition is Tiger Lily and a semi-influence is Jaeha from Yona of the Dawn! Really the only things I got inspired by him are the green hair, purple/gold outfit, and the fact that he throws knives lol.

Then we’ve got Sandy Skye, who has a Zeno from Yona of the Dawn inspo! I’m sure y’all can see exactly what I’m talking about so I ain’t gonna explain nothin'.

Sketch Book has a very slight inspiration from this character I came across called Ganesha from the Fate Grand Order game? Never played it but I really liked how she was a chubby gal with glasses and liked nerdy things lol.

Jelly Bean has a kinda inspo from Momiji from Fruits Basket! Just a little personality wise and cause one time Momiji wore a cute sailor outfit and it was adorable.

Barnaby definitely has an anime flair but I’m actually not entirely sure who?? I’m leaning towards Damian Desmond from SPYxFAMILY because they both are a bit uptight, smart academics who can get annoyed easily. But I imagine Barnaby to be nicer and not lose his cool as often.

Ah, Moonlight Melody. She honestly had a “depressed anime mom” vibe from the start lol. I know there’s some anime out there where the heroine or mom had a rich young life but something happened to take it away from them and they reminisce about old times. Have never personally watched it though... ;w;

I adore the Ghibli movie Castle in the Sky so I found a way to incorporate a tiny piece of it into my oc universe! I loved the old pirate lady captain’s vibes and gave Nana Peppermint a bit of that!

And lastly but not leastly, my dear dear ponysona Ginger Bread. She just has classic clumsy nice anime girl vibes and that be it.

Hope you enjoyed learning about my inspirations! I have many more ocs yet to be designed that I’m sure will also be anime influenced because let’s be honest, it's a huge love of mine lol.

A few weeks ago, while I was bored, I attempted to transcribe the notes on Argent's 'In Deep' album since they are almost impossible to read, and neither Discogs nor any other website provided any transcription... I could only transcribe fully Bob's and Russ', as I'm still missing words, replaced with these ▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎, on Rod's and Jim's. There might be some mistakes that have escaped my eyes as well. Hopefully I can see this album in flesh and bone someday so I can figure out if I got it right.

I am le back!

Vacation was awesome.

I just spent 9 hours driving home, so unpacking can definitely wait til tomorrow. I'm gonna enjoy the benefits of indoor plumbing like showers and washing machines, then I'm gonna order some sushi, and dig into what I missed while I was away.

I have zomg so much stuff to catch up on.

I haven't seen any of the second season of Good Omens (frankly I think it should have been illegal to release it the day I left for a 2-week vacation, given my username).

I have 2 episodes of Critical Role and the last episode of Candela Obscura to watch (the real kicker is I like to catch up on Tumblr while I watch those, but I can't because I'm sure this place is Spoiler City)

LET’S GOOOO I’M SO READY FOR THESE!!!!

They’re gonna be long though so uuuuuuuuuuuuh heads up expanding the post!

Ok so first up is Ortho! Homegirl is so protective of him especially after book 6. She probably thought she’d never see him again after what happened in STYX so when he came back to be a student at NRC she was so happy, definitely got close to crying but will deny that forever lmao

She tends to treat him like a little brother because look at him and tell he’s not everyone’s little brother. You can’t you’re lying. She’ll always keep an eye on him when she can and cheers him on in anything that he pursues.

She genuinely believes that Ortho can do anything but will still protect him with her life. 10/10 incredible baby bro

Next up is Grim! The son ever! I’m going to be completely honest in saying that she was totally off-put by him in the very beginning. She didn’t quite understand why she was even being associated with this furball but with time and the necessity of teamwork between them they quickly bonded. He was the first to find out that she’s not a boy in the all boy’s school and even when she doubted him at first, he never let it slip to anyone. They can rely on each other when it really counts and it’s sweet.

She will openly refer to him as her son and she’s not afraid to poke at his pride every now and again (which he needs good gravy) but sometimes she humors his antics a little too much. She will claim that she is his familiar rather than vice versa if anyone calls him a familiar because she knows he hates it and doesn’t mind the title anyway. It’s kinda funny to see people’s reactions too.

Ultimately they have more of a sibling relationship than anything and have each other’s backs. They do love each other like family, 10/10 found family. Would find again

Lastly but not leastly is Mozus Trein! The dynamic between them is actually pretty interesting (to me at least) because it didn’t start out as much. If anything Lucius was the one to break the ice. Chris was always quietly affectionate towards the cat and he’d gotten comfortable hopping up onto her desk during class. She’ll always pet him and say hello and goodbye before and after class and Trein was always amused but never really showed any bias. For a long time Chris was actually a bit intimidated by Trein but slowly warmed up to him as time went on.

The relationship probably reached a pique during the Glorious Masquerade event! Chris was able to spend time with just Trein and Grim while exploring Fluer City so they were able to talk more casually, not having to worry about school for the moment.

She definitely slipped up and called him “dad” at one point, but rather than backing out she decided to commit to the bit for shits and giggles (Watching Trein’s composure waver when instead of apologizing she asked “Dad, am I the disappointment of the family?” Was definitely worth it though he was not expecting that). This of course was a joke between the two of them, as no one would ever drop the subject if they found out about it.

They have an inside joke now, so you might hear one of them mumble a “I raised you better than this” or “you’re not even my real dad” at each other if you listen closely. Of course if you don’t know it’s an inside joke then it might give you the wrong impression as Trein is always deadpan when he jokes… 10/10 best dad Trein

So I saw this post while browsing toa tags the other day. While I don’t think being obsessed with the school mascot automatically makes Toby a furry (though it is funny to joke about lol) since “being a furry” actually just means “being a fan of anthropomorphic animals” and doesn’t necessarily require any form of costuming or interest in such, it did get me thinking, hmmm...if he was a furry, what would his fursona be? 🤔 And from there I started wondering what Jim’s and Claire’s would be as well because y not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

BUT WAIT, I hear you say--haven’t you already drawn the trio as werewolves and wolfwalkers etc.? Wouldn’t those be their fursonas??

Well yes....but actually no.

I guess it’s a little hard to explain, but there’s a nuance between “[person] but as an animal” and a proper “fursona”. While a fursona is an animal character used to represent its person, it doesn’t have to physically resemble them at all as you would expect [person]-but-as-[animal] to. For example, if you were to design me but as a cat, you’d probably give it light brown fur and green eyes like I have irl. But my fursona, unlike my human self, actually has blue fur and purple eyes. You can give your fursona matching physical traits to your own if you want to, and some people do, but most use only a pinch of their irl appearance, if any at all.

The choices people make when designing their fursonas vary wildly from “it looks like me irl” to “it looks like who I want to be” to “I just really like this color scheme” to “this particular color/marking holds deep personal meaning to me” to “this particular pattern represents a particular defining moment in my life” to “idk it looks cool and i vibe with it” etc. etc. etc. Everyone has different reasons of varying depth for the decisions they make in designing their fursona.

Therefore, to design a fursona for Toby etc., it’s less a question of “what would this character look like as [insert species here]?” and more of “how would this character choose to present himself with his own [animal] character?”

And that’s a much trickier game than just transferring a character aesthetic to a new species. ^^; We have to kinda dive into the characters and makes some guesses about how they, if given infinite creative freedom to design an animal avatar with no rules or limits, would choose to present themselves.

So all that said, here’s what I came up with:

Starting with Toby because he’s the one who inspired the post. I think Toby might choose a wolfdog fursona. A lot of people who choose wolves as fursonas consider themselves to be overwhelmingly loyal to their friends, a trait that fits Toby very well. However, while Toby likes to be “cool”, I don’t think he really thinks of himself as much of an “alpha” type--he’s more of a sidekick, and he knows that, and he’s ok with that. He’s the wingman. So what better way to incorporate that than to add dog into the mix? Man’s best friend=Jim’s best friend. Sociable, humorous, and unwaveringly loyal. Wolfdog it is!

With the species decided, we can move on to the design itself.

I can’t imagine any form of Toby in anything other than warm colors. This is extra emphasized by the flamelike patterns on his legs and tail, which both speaks to his desire to be totally awesome-sauce as well as acts as an allusion to his flaming warhammer. It’s fairly common (not universal, but common) for people to give their fursonas a more “ideal” physique than the person actually has as a sort of way to live by proxy physical goals or fantasies they’ve been unable to attain irl for whatever reason. Given that we’ve seen Toby struggle with fitness from time to time, it wouldn’t shock me to see him take this route. His wolfdog self is still relatively short and stocky, but it’s all muscle, babey.

This fursona is strong, fun, boisterous, and generally just kicks butt. Concentrated awesomesauce flows through his veins. Just don't mess with his friends, or you’ll feel the flames!

Moving on to Jim. Jim was the hardest to nail down, and most definitely the hardest to keep my personal biases out of oof. Which I may have failed to do anways because yes, ok, I made my favorite character a blue feline, sue me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But hear me out first!

For Jim I ultimately settling on a cheetah/lion hybrid.

Cheetahs, in a way, are sort of the underdogs (er...cats?) of the feline world--at least, in their local ecosystems. They are built wholly for speed, not strength--and as such, just about every other large predator in their environment has them beat when it comes to raw strength. Remind you of a certain Trollhunter? plus the long lanky legs. don’t forget those lol

However, because of this disadvantage, cheetahs...usually surrender. They know it’s not worth it to defend their kill from larger, stronger opponents, so they’ll give it up and just catch something else. This aspect doesn’t quite fit our protective, selfless protagonist all too eager to risk everything to save his loved ones--so a pure cheetah may not be the right choice.

So what animal is brave and protective? That’s where the lion part comes in, of course!

Why not just make him a pure lion? Well, a little similar to making Toby a wolfdog instead of a pure wolf. A straight-up lion feels a little too “chad” for our sweet Jimbo. Too much of a jock.

Jim has the humble underdog nature of a cheetah as well as the bravery and fierce protective drive of a lion. Cheelion? Leetah? idk, but let’s design it!

Like Toby and warm colors, I don’t think I can possibly associate Jim with any color but blue. While it’s never directly stated, given that we’ve never really seen him wear any other color (with the exception of the Eclipse armor), I think it’s pretty safe to assume that that’s his favorite. Blue sweater, blue jeans, blue shoes, even his backpack and bedsheets are blue. So naturally, his fursona would be predominantly blue as well! Plus some yellowish accents to (somewhat) match the natural colors of his chosen species(s).

I imagine he originally designed the character without horns, but then added them after becoming the Trollhunter, since it became such a major and impactful aspect of his life.

His lion’s mane also continues down his back in imitation of the “mantle” found on baby cheetahs. This youthful feature could subtly represent the fact that he’s been forced to grow up too fast and take on so much responsibility so young--so his fursona can still be young and carefree as long as he likes even while his real self struggles with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

This fursona is relaxed, calm, and confident. He’s not just cool--he’s crispy!

Lastly but not leastly, we have Claire. Out of the three, I think Claire was actually the easiest to choose--or at least, I had the clearest idea of what I thought she might go for.

Claire is a bit of an interesting duck, because while she’s shown to be fairly popular at school, she’s definitely far from the stereotype of The Popular Girl™. Yes she’s smart and pretty, but she’s also a little spunky or even a bit quirky--she’s a theatre kid, she’s a huge fan of hard rock band Papa Skull, and while I wouldn’t quite call her “rebellious” per se, she’s certainly willing to bend some rules if she feels the situation calls for it (not telling her parents that she was going to the concert with Steve, literally sneaking into Jim’s basement to try to find out what was up with him, etc).

That said, I think Claire might go for a hyena fursona--something a little out of the box, but not totally out of left field. (she also shows a slight Gurl Power™ streak here and there “the staff was not meant to be wielded by man--” “I am not a man!!!”) and if you know anything about hyenas...well, yeah lol)

I think Claire would lean into her punk-rock “rebellious” side with her fursona design. This character is completely free of the pressure of being the councilwoman’s daughter and having to maintain her mother’s public reputation, and thus allows Claire to express a less restrained side of herself. She has a bold semi-edgy color scheme with bright accents (and some earrings to match her person’s hair clips) while still remaining feminine and (her own brand of) fashionable.

This fursona is spunky and sassy; she’s spicy and sweet all rolled up into one. She knows what she wants and she’s not afraid to chase it down. She lives her own life and she’s dang proud of it.

....sooooo yeah there’s my take on what Toby’s, Jim’s, and Claire’s fursonas could hypothetically be. And I guess since this post was inspired by a joke about Toby’s infatuation with the school mascot, here’s just some quick thoughts on how they might approach fursuiting to end us off:

Jim I don’t see as much of a suiter. He might try it once or twice if given the opportunity, but at the end of the day it’s not really his cup of tea--he’d rather act as the “handler” for his friends, if anything.

Toby and Claire, on the other hand, I could definitely see as suiters. In fact, with her interest in acting, Claire would probably particularly enjoy it--she’d be one of those suiters who really gets into character, absolutely refuses to break the magic publicly (outside of any actual medical emergency), and popular at cons because she just performs so well.

Toby, meanwhile, would be the more chill type--uses his normal voice in-suit, isn’t really too stressed about “breaking the magic”, just kinda hanging around like he would normally except “look I’m a talking dog, cool right?”.

also while I was typing this it occurred to be that since Eli is canonically a cosplayer then he could be a fursuiter as well; in his case i imagine he actually made his own suit it’s a protogen and it’s full of little LEDs and other electric gadgets, it’s not the prettiest thing ever as sewing is not his forte but boy did he try!! good for him. good for him

you have opened my eyes about hockey fic being a thing. i had no idea! i feel like an old lady. while we're at it, are there any particular catb-world fics you love? as your other anon said, your taste is exquisite.

Thank you very much for this compliment!!! Also I feel like I’ve broken the news that there’s a hockey fandom to waaay too many people 😂 I don’t know why but most of the blogs in my old fandom simply transitioned right into hockey, so I’ve been halfway familiar with it for a long time but apparently that’s not normal!

I can definitely rec you some catb stuff, although it’s been a while since I’ve read any! When I join a new fandom I always start with reading the fic to kind of get a feel of what people think of the person, but I know a lot of the catfish writing community faded away by the time I officially made my blog here and started writing my own fic. There’s authors on here I’m really sad I didn’t get to meet in the community!

First of all I would recommend anything by @saintmccann, but her roadtrip fic forever takes up a space in my heart (the chapter in sak where they roadtrip to Arizona is actually an ode to it). The ending is so heart-wrenching, it gutted me. I also revisit read my mind time and time again, for me it’s a great example of balance between smut and plot!

The first fic I ever read in the fandom is the Sidetrack au from @you-andthebottlemen, so it’s very sentimental to me! It was my first real look at how people see Van, and I loved it! All of her other stuff is wonderful as well.

@godlyvan has a long masterlist with lots of good stuff!

this oneshot by @greasyvan lives in my mind rent free

@pacifymebby has an incredible Bondy fic on wattpad, it’s very long and perfect for a nice binge! It’s unfinished but the Bondy slowburn is worth the pain of waiting for updates!! Also check out her T-Shirt Weather blurbs if you would like to die of longing for Bondy as well.

I also recommend @okayohay‘s fic on wattpad, another long one that’s amazing to get lost in! There’s some heavy content relating to domestic violence and stalking, but I feel like everything is properly warned for so I was well prepared when I got to those parts.

And lastly but never leastly, @fenderswift has cigarettes are repulsive which is incredible (duh), and I would love if you all harassed her to write some more!!!

These are just what I have in my bookmarks, I’m positive I have more recommendations, but hopefully this has something for you!

three fictional character ( s ) you see yourself in + why : i honestly see myself in katara from atla, the whole smothering mothering routine. it’s becoming a regular thing for my friends to say “thanks, mom” or “ok, mom” so i guess i’m the mom friend. also fred weasly... he’s a twin.. i’m a twin... that’s all i need. and lastly, and very leastly, neil josten from all for the game series. most of you probably don’t know it, but he’s a demisexual chaotic idiot who says “i’m fine” way too much for someone who is most definitely not fine.

i started roleplaying : probably when i was around 16-17 was my first official roleplay experience. it was on facebook and kind of a nightmare types of rps i enjoy : i like college stuff and small town rps, but i also love plot heavy rps that push you into developing your muse. really anything that isn’t too restricting favorite fcs to use : i don’t have go-to faceclaims. i tend to make a character around a FC and then use them until i lose muse or just feel like they need to rest. switch it up a lot, but some faces that i’ve really enjoyed playing for a longer amount of time are steven kelly, cindy mello and ellen v. lora fandom ( s ) you’d like to write in : i want to write in all of the fandoms i know nothing about and look like a dumbass. also harry potter, the hunger games, avatar the last airbender, gossip girl, etc etc fandom ( s ) you aren’t in but are curious about : marvel somewhat, any video games are very fascinating to me even though i’m not a gamer + know nothing about them, any distopian kind of fandom re: hunger games

share a funny roleplay horror story : recently an admin of a twitter rp tried to use my male muse for their weird ship narrative. they tried to make him look like an asshole (& i do play assholes but this one wasn’t one) + used another male muse to make it seem as if these two boys were fighting over the person’s girl, even though she actually had a ship all lined up. they were also running the gossip twitter, so they made up a bunch of stuff about our muses without our consent and consequently i told them to fuck off, and both of us left the group. then she had no more “groupies” so she cuffed and the group closed two days later. it was petty hilarious.

fondest roleplay memory : once in an OC group, i wasn’t “technically” doing a ship with a friend, even though the characters had feelings for each other. but for some reason the status of their relationship was a hot topic group wide, meaning everybody had their nose in it and wanting to know what’s up, so they publically kept doing things to make people think they’re together while denying it in the same breath. it was really fun to let it play out like that.

More Thoughts on 2010s albums and music

So as far as pop goes, Charli XCX killed it this decade. Kesha’s Rainbow was excellent too. Not sure if that’s just the Ryan Lewis factor to it - but I think it also may have been just the story around it in a way (but I can’t discount that Dap Kings feature holy shit). James Blake also slayed it the past few years -and Assume Form especially - and it had an Andre 3000 feature?

Kero Kero Bonito were always more than just a meme, but they definitely proved it to the wider public on Time n’ Place (one of the darkest pop albums I’ve heard in a while -hooray! Musical-Lyrical dissonance! One of my favourite tropes!)

Speaking of meme-lords, Filthy Frank became Joji and put in hard work on making stellar r&b/rap/trip-hop on Ballads 1 and Nectar, Obviously he wasn’t the only comedian to prove a legitimate musical prodigy this decade. Childish Gambino had the highly underappreciated Camp, followed it up with possibly my favourite album of the decade Because the Internet, and then took a hard-left into full George Clinton Parliament style funk mode on Awaken, My Love! and it was all gooooooooooooooood. Even 3-15-20, which may not reach the high-highs that Because did for me, was still a solid release, and continues the funk trend while finding space for some rapping (my god does he sound like Mystikal on this record) and other cross-genre pollination.

Lastly, but not leastly(?) we got Kids See Ghosts, which -admittedly-has Kanye on it (but he still puts in good work as a producer) - you’re enjoyment of this album may depend on if you can separate the artist from the person (as a reader of H.P. Lovecraft, I’m already practising this distinction anyway). HOWEVER, it is also essentially Kid Cudi’s comeback album, and what an album it is. This is all killer and no filler (and it’s always nice to see Cudi succeed, dude deserves it)

Kpop recs GO (I’m rlly into loona and sunmi and liked red velvet and f(x) in high school, besides them I know almost zero kpop)

i would say my number 1 rec based on those likes would be GWSN theyre up there with loona in terms of instantly recognizable musical style and just generally amazing aesthetics and MVs. unfortunately theyre also up there with how loona was for a long time in terms of being completely slept on but theyre still a really new group so i hope they go places

Wonder Girls are probably the second legendary girl group and since sunmi was a member im sure youd like at least some of the stuff they put out. their last couple eras as a real band playing live instruments absolutely slaps

Momoland is a really fun group that put out one of the best girl group singles of last year. im not sure if they fit in with anything else you like but i cant not mention them just for that one song alone

Chungha is another great soloist who has a really unique voice and some great MVs/choreo sort of along the vibe of sunmi

stuff thats just my personal preference but definitely understandable love it or hate it would be 4Minute (sadly disbanded now), Itzy, and the only boy group i like at all Monsta X

lastly but not leastly Twice’s most recent korean album Feel Special absolutely blew me away and despite not really liking any of their previous music. the single is my favorite track from it and my favorite girl group track from last year overall but i woudl really looking up the whole thing if you dig this because its the best full album work by anyone but loona/red velvet ive ever heard

Okay so Imma just do yalls group for this one.

So we have this unnamed group of people if only they had a team name hmmmm. Somehow or another they all got information about a job and ended up working together. It's pretty much worked out so far.

First we have Barnes. This 72 year old half elven fighter. In typical half elven fashion, parental lineage issue. Dude is a soldier since like forever. Like legit, raised in a town for warriors. Hes seen some shit but is a really nice guy who cares a lot about his friends. Hes incredibly loyal and just looking for a real solid family i think I mean idk if Carter would agree. Oh yeah and he likes to flirt. Like, respectful southern gentleman flirting but still flirting. However he is absolutely shit at reading people (aka awful insight check results. Its hella bad bros)

Next is Carigeros, the secretive half elven rogue. Again, in typical half elven fashion, family drama. As a result this special boy turned to a life of crime. Ya know, as you do. He loves pick pocketing and stealing medical supplies when nurses' backs are turned. Additionally, he and Barnes met years before. The encounter ended with Barnes missing a bag of coin. Luckily for Cargerios, Barnes doesnt have the best memory.

Then we have Celysa. The darling tiefling ranger of the group. Was adopted and raised by some humans, some shit went down, she lost her entire family and now has a deadly fear of fire. But hey, shes working on the fear of fire thing at least (maybe not the rest of the trauma but still A+ for effort). She had a sort of mentor who guided her to where the party first met. This absolute sweetheart enjoys rescuing lost kittens and spending time alone in the woods.

Next is Nani, druid goliath grandma extraordinaire. This lovely woman is the only reason the party hasnt died yet in combat. She lived her life as a storyteller in her tribe. She also had kiddos and they had kiddos. Eventually though her tribe scattered into other tribes and this was dissolved. Nani roams now in search of her own stories to make. Shes old friends with Zara, our last party member. Dont piss her off or you'll get a disapproving grandma glare.

Lastly, but certainly not leastly, we have Zara the human blood hunter. Aka the only reason the team isnt living on the street cause shes got a private bedroom hook up. Raised in a humble village until outside forces destroyed it yay more childhood trauma!. After that she dedicated herself to an organization that protects people from the monsters of the world. Along her journey to destroy demons and stuff she met Nani and they've been friends ever since. Oh and she really has a thing for moss and definitely does not have a thing for tight spaces.

Okay. It was such a emotionally and mentally exhausting weekend that I just have to get some of these feelings out of my system. Please, bear with me: this is going to be a long one because fuck, I don’t think I’ve ever been this glad that a weekend is over.

When I got back into F1 about a year ago, everything was so positively exciting. Highs were extremely high, lows were as extremely low but with the positive feeling deep under that the next race is a new beginning. Right now the low is such a deep hole that it feels really difficult to gain any comfort from the tiniest positive things that happened during this weekend.

I bet anyone knows what I’m talking about. Even though I haven’t been following F2 or any other motorsport series closely, it still is devastating to know that Anthoine Hubert has passed away. It’s difficult to digest, really - a boy around my age, who still had so much to dream about and reach for. So much more coming for him.

And it’s also devastating to think about the fact that if this makes me feel bad, how devastated are those who lost more than a member of the community? Those who personally knew him? Those who lost a son, a brother, a friend, a colleague? It’s so wrong. So, so wrong.

It rarely crosses your mind how dangerous motorsport is. It’s weird to think that only about a month ago I was one of those cheering for a proper wet race at Hockenheimring and being so entertained by all the chaos going on. Thankfully no one got hurt back then. No one should have gotten hurt this time either, but well, apparently this was the grim reminder of the dangers that we had to receive, no matter how sad or oh, how wrong it is.

Now, this weekend, all there was to hope was for everyone to come home unscathed. No more scary accidents, no more injuries, especially no more fatalities. It was scary to hear about the bad-looking crash in F3 and see the first turn mayhem and Giovinazzi’s crash in F1. Thank god no one got hurt in those. It would have been like bathing in a tub full of salt while being covered in paper cuts.

But, not to be fully submerged with only the negatives... Every cloud passes a couple of rays of sunshine through. These are the tiny rays I also want to acknowledge:

Happy to hear that Correa’s condition is stable. Hoping for a fast and successful recovery for him.

As mentioned earlier, I’m glad that no one else got seriously hurt in this weekend’s races.

Well done Charles for his first victory in F1, even though it happened under these circumstances. I have so much appreciation how maturely he can handle bad and devastating situations - and this time was no different.

And for the whole motorsport community - god I love you so much. I’d say that 99% of the comments and posts I saw all over the internet were so heartwarming, respectful and genuine. Being there for each other, offering a listening ear, mourning together, shutting down disrespectful behaviour. And don’t let me get started with the standing ovation and the social media “takeover” (since I cannot think about a better word rn) during lap 19 of the F1 race - something that was 100% done and spread around by fans. I was sobbing so hard during that. Even though I am mostly a lurker around all social media platforms, I am really proud that I feel connected to a community like this.

But yeah. Life goes on, no matter if we want it to or not. Thankfully it’s already Monday over here so I can say that the weekend is officially over. I bet there was so much more I wanted to say, but now is the time to try and refocus and get some sleep.

Lastly but most definitely leastly: Repose en paix, Anthoine. Sincerest condolences to his family, friends and other people who had a close relationship with him. You won’t be forgotten. Race on wherever you are right now.

I RISE FROM THE DEAD

Hey what’s up motherfuckers, believe it or not, I’m back with some actual new writing pieces! They’re all bits that have been sitting on my computer, waiting for me to publish them for months, and now I finally have! Two Camp Camp pieces, and one for Be More Chill. I’ll be making individual posts for each with the links to them on Ao3, but if you want to just look now, I’ve got the same username there as I do here. Also, if you reblog the posts I make on them, I will love you forever.

Onto other news, I’m working on a shit ton of stuff behind the scenes that might come out sometime in the vague future! For one, I’ve got two unfinished camp camp oneshots, all of which are pretty long so far. I’ve got a Sally Face oneshot that may become its own series in the works. Also, I have a Marvel and Camp Camp crossover multi-chapter, which I promise, isn’t as weird as it sounds, and I’m really excited to finish it. I’m editing one of the fics that is part of my “snapshots of three intertwining lives” series so that it is no longer terrible and in first person. No shade to anyone who does write in first person, it’s just something I used to do but now hate. Also for that series, I’ve got an idea for two prequel pieces, one of when David and Gwen first met, and another that’s just basically fluff about those two high school nerds being super emo in the late 2000′s with a splace of “what the fuck is gender” thrown in. I’ve got a vague idea about a CC mental hospital AU called “Campbell's Home For Unwell Children” though I’m not sure if that’s ever going to become a thing.

AND LASTLY BUT NOT NEARLY LEASTLY

A DEFINITE NEW CC SERIES IS COMING AND I AM SO EXCITED TO REVEAL IT TO YOU

The name is Heroes & Villains, and each multi-chaptered piece will be based on an album. The first one is called hopeless fountain kingdom and it’s going to have sixteen chapters! That will make it way longer than anything I’ve ever written! I’ve been on and off working on it since last summer. It’s... well, it’s hard to describe. I suppose it’s kind of dystopian AU? It’s not exactly a superhero thing because no one has powers, but, well, you’ll see. Here’s the summary, or at least what I have written, it might change.

“In a not entirely unrealistic dystopia far, far, away… the fight of good against evil rages on, like it does every day. Those who are good seek to keep things the way they are, to fight so that everything stays as perfect as it is. Those who are evil seek to change things for their own benefit. To overthrow those in power and put into place their own government, where they will rule over everyone and cause pain and suffering. Heroes and villains fight every day to keep the balance intact. Every young hero hopes to bring good to the world, and every hardened villain hopes to bring it down. Or at least, that’s what they say.

This is the story of a kind villain, an invaluable sidekick, a cruel hero, an obstinate apprentice, and various other contradictions.“

So that’s everything going on with me. Now that poetry slam season is over and I no longer have to go to workshops three times a week and practice on weekends, hopefully more writing will be done!

Blackwing has never been about fairness. It isn’t, truthfully, fair that they should be caged here, the whole lot of them: subject upon subject upon subject, neatly packed away into their individual cells with no silver lining guiding their thoughts toward a better future. It’s not fair to be encumbered by stupid powers no person in their right mind would ever voluntarily have asked for. It’s not fair that said powers do, on the best of days, feel positively disempowering, due to some crazed nonsensical paradox of the ultimate go-screw-yourself-ness. And lastly --- lastly { but, as they say, most certainly not leastly }, it definitely, absolutely isn’t bloody fair that Mona should be the one to bear witness to his meltdown over the absurdity of it all. Granted, Dirk wouldn’t be all too surprised to find that his friend would not only gladly bear, but also raccoon, meerkat and fox witness to whatever annoyance du jour he presents her with ------ but the fact endures that she deserves better, that she shouldn’t be forced to lend any number of ears to his yammering.

If his stomach was roiling with anger before, guilt now joins the Merry Society Of Wreaking Havoc In Project Icarus’ Intestines, turning it into a veritable riot. Hands flying up to his tear-glistening eyes, Dirk draws his knees against his chest and tries in vain to control the quaking that makes jelly of his entire body. He doesn’t want to be here any longer, is the simple truth of it. Perhaps --- well, yes. Perhaps he just doesn’t want to be anymore.

A gentle draft strokes along the shell of his ear. Amidst the sickening despair, an image of autumn leaves tumbling in a breeze springs to mind and conjures up the most microscopic twitch of a smile. But when Dirk blinks some clarity back into his dampened vision, the cell remains its lifeless, tree-bereft self, sterile and unaffected by the turn and twist of the seasons outside ... and what rests beside his naked, cold-tinged toes is not a leaf, but a message. Sucking in a shuddery breath, he gingerly uncoils himself and picks up the letter. It seems almost grotesquely soft in a world that is anything but, a friendly caress beneath his fingertips. Mona. She always tends to his wounds in her own way, doesn’t she? A sunflowery glow flickers up in the depths of Dirk’s heart: not quite a silver lining, but almost. He unfolds the letter with utmost caution, holding it at arm’s length to keep the inky handwriting from weeping along with his tears. In all likelihood, these are the sweetest words ever to have been sent his way. He wouldn’t forgive himself for smudging them.

“ I’d quite like a hug, please. ” Whatever dwells inside him, Dirk’s not entirely positive that Mona is right in her assumption that it must be love. At the very moment, it feels more like bile trying to crawl up his throat, reducing his voice to a pain-swamped whisper. “ If I could get one. ”

since the RWBY characters seem to be loosly based on mythology and fairy tales, (ruby, little red riding hood; yang, goldielocks; jaune, jon of arc; etc.) what do you think emerald, cinder, and mercury are based off of? I've done some digging and I just can't seem to find anything about it. you seem to know your stuff, so I was wondering if you knew..

So I’ve written about this a lot, but one of the first things you have to let go of when trying to understand RWBY is the idea that there is a 1:1 relationship between original RWBY characters and inspiring classic characters. RWBY allusions come in layers, sometimes several deep, and while a RWBY character tends to have one overt inspiration, their character arc is almost always dominated by at least one other allusion which is kept secret. Cinder, Emerald, and Mercury overtly reference Cinderella, Aladdin, and Hermes, but beneath the surface there’s all kinds of craziness going on.

Mercury Black, for example, seems heavily inspired by Hephaestus- the Greek God of the Smithy (as in Blacksmith) who forged Hermes’ winged sandals. Hephaestus was made permanently lame when his father Zeus broke both of his legs by throwing him from the top of Mt. Olympus for daring to try and defend his mother Hera. Later in life Hephaestus made many mobility aids for himself to compensate for his lame legs.

As for Emerald… well, she’s heavily intertwined with Cinder. But outside of her relationship with Cinder, Mercury and Emerald together play two important recurring characters from The Adventures of Pinocchio, the Fox and the Cat, con artists who pretend to be lame in one leg and blind respectively to earn Pinocchio’s trust and at one point lure him into a trap where they murder him by hanging- this is actually the original, cautionary dark ending of the first version of Pinocchio’s story, The Tale of a Puppet.

Cinder, lastly but definitely not leastly, is probably the single most complicated character in all of RWBY in terms of references and allusions. Partly this is because Cinder, as the central villain, makes references to the antagonists of several of the protagonists’ stories- so many characters have relationships with Cinder, and Cinder plays a different character in each of their stories. But mostly, Cinder is the single most complicated character in RWBY because she is at the heart of the metafictional mindscrew that is RWBY’s high concept and that makes Inception look like The Princess Bride.

I won’t try and detail all of Cinder’s allusions here in this reply, as I would run out of internet to write on before I did her justice, but I do talk about a couple of them at some length in this reddit post:
