🦈 Daily Shark Fact: 🦈
Kitefin Sharks are bioluminescent. Scientists believe that the greenish-blue glow of this fish (typically concentrated on their bellies and underside) is a type of camouflage that helps the shark blend in with the light from above. The Kitefin is the largest luminous vertebrate on record. Three hormones in the shark’s body control its ability to glow in the dark.

Day 5: Kitefin Shark 🍠✨
This one was tough…until I realized this shark was so ube roll shaped!
id: A purple kitefin shark with whipped cream fins. A cross section reveals an ube roll with a cream swirl. Against a purple wash of color, it swims between the words “Kitefin Shark.” end description

I know, I can make my own stuff based on some of the most random stuff and somehow cram them all into a single OCverse.
But this shark girl adopt's design was so cool, and I wanted to make a funni frenzy wisp wielder! And make a Sonic AU, just because!

🦈Daily Shark Fact: 🦈
The Pocket Shark is a species of kitefin shark Both species are distinguished from other sharks by two pockets next to the front fins. The pockets are large, measuring about 4% of the shark's body length. Some researchers hypothesize that the pockets may excrete some kind of glowing fluid or pheromones.

kirbyssharkfacts i am feeling down. will you give me a kirbys shark facts?
sorry to hear you're feeling down anon, but i hope this fact will help cheer you up!
did you know some sharks can glow in the dark? bioluminescence has been documented in multiple shark species: the kitefin shark, blackbelly lanternshark, and southern lanternshark.
the exact purpose of this bioluminescence is unknown, but scientists have made several hypotheses. it’s possible that the sharks use this to communicate with each other, to disguise themselves when hunting prey or evading predators, or to illuminate the ocean floor when searching for food.
a research paper on this subject was published in the frontiers in marine science journal in 2021, which you can find here if you're interested!
