Woah mama! I appreciate the traction of the first shark poll, so here is another for so many beloved friends who did not fit the first one! Shark fans,
I truly did have many of the species listed here in mind with the previous poll, I just did not have the space and had to prioritise some sharks I knew were longtime favourites! But worry not… no more! SHARK FANS COME GET YOUR JUICE!!!!
What shall I do with the info in the two polls? I dunno. Maybe make another poll with even more sharks? Maybe combine the winners and make them fight to the death? Who knows! Let’s see.

I recently made a chain catshark sculpture for an inspiring little marine biologist who is quite dear to me. Thus, creating these little babies that you can carry around for a little cute serotonin boost✨ I only have three available currently, but I’d be oh so happy to make more🌿 check them out here!

Because I'm going to school for bio anyway I've decided I'm going to make a series where I just post about random animals I find cool and a couple facts about them. I don't know how frequent this will be, but first creature on the list is-
Chain Catshark
Tumblr media
Also known as the chain dogfish, chain catsharks are a nocturnal catshark that get up to 59 cm in length. They're found most commonly in the Northwest Atlantic and Western Central Atlantic. They're generally shy, and harmless to humans, their diet consisting of squid, bony fish, crustaceans, and bristle worms.
But the most interesting thing about them is that they're biofluorescent, and one of only four elasmobranch species with this ability!

Look at her! Isn't she gorgeous? I don't have much more to add rn but feel free to admire her beauty until next time I have an animal post

🦈 Daily Shark Fact: 🦈
The Chain Catshark is one of four elasmobranch species shown to possesses biofluorescent properties. The key fluorecent pigments in the chain catshark and the swell shark are a set of brominated kynurenine compounds that appear to be synthesized by the kynurenine pathway starting from 6-bromo-tryptophan.

A chain catshark, one of the 200 species of marine animals to display biofluorescence, is seen glowing neon green on a deep sea fluorescent dive near California‘s coast. Surreal diving experiences like this help scientists better understand and protect marine life—and travelers can now try it too.

both the swell shark and the chain catshark have biofluorescent properties that cause them to glow green.

Daily fish fact #359
Chain catshark!
Tumblr media
Also known as a chain dogfish or simply chain link shark! They're most recognisable for their chainlike patterns, which function as camouflage against the bottom of the sea where they typically rest during the day. Curiously, adults prefer rough rubble bottoms while juveniles seem to prefer smoother rubble!

Day 2: Chain Catshark 🍫✨
The marbled pattern reminded me of a marbled cake, so this shark has the best of both worlds!
image description: A chain catshark against a light blue wash of color. It is a light brown shark with a darker brown marbled pattern, a cross section revealing a marbled chocolate cake interior. In cursive are the words “chain catshark.” end description
