Daily Ray Fact:
*Last one and it's kind of a bummer, because there's literally no information on it🙃*
The Rosette River Stingray is also regularly known as the Flower Stingray. It is a freshwater stingray that can be found in the rivers of Northern South America. They are aptly named for the floral design on their disc, which blends in well with sandy river bottoms.

Dusky Lory (Pseudeos fuscata)
Dusky Lories are typically observed in pairs or in small flocks, but large groups of over 50 are not uncommon, sometimes with Rainbow Lorikeets. They are also known as 'Banded Lories' or 'Duskies' and prefer to feed in tree canopies rather than the ground.

All About Rooks: The Feathered Farmers
These aren't your average crows! Rooks are intelligent, social birds with a fascinating lifestyle. Let's take a closer look at these cool creatures:
Appearance:
Think blackbird, but bigger! Rooks are easily identified by their glossy black feathers and distinctive white patch at the base of their beak.
Tumblr media
They're bigger than crows and have longer, narrower wings.
Social Butterflies:
Rooks are super social and live in large colonies called rookeries. They build their nests together in tall trees, often near farms and villages.
Tumblr media
In the evenings, they gather in huge flocks at their roosting sites, sometimes numbering in the thousands!
Foodie Facts:
Rooks are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals.
They love digging for grubs and worms in the soil, but they also munch on fruits, seeds, and even carrion.
Tumblr media
In urban areas, they might scavenge for food scraps, just like their cousin, the crow.
Rook Rookery Rook:
Rooks are monogamous and mate for life.
They work together to build their nests, which are made of sticks, lined with soft materials like grass and moss.
Tumblr media
The female usually lays 3-5 eggs, and both parents take turns caring for the chicks.
Brain Power:
Rooks are surprisingly intelligent birds! They can solve puzzles, understand gravity, and even use tools (in captivity).
They seem to have a good understanding of cause and effect, and can even work together to achieve a common goal.
Friends or Foes?
Rooks have had a complex relationship with humans. Farmers sometimes see them as pests, while others appreciate their role in controlling insect populations.
Their numbers are slightly declining due to changes in agriculture and habitat loss, but they're not considered endangered.
So next time you see a rook, remember these interesting facts! These clever birds are more than just black crows with a funny name.

Plague Inc. has done more to teach me about diseases than school ever has.
Go learn about prion diseases, they're terrifying, and if they had an easy way to spread and weren't as elusive and rare as they are, millions would die
Getting a prion protein folded abnormally in your brain is guaranteed death (eventually) and it's incurable
We know little about how they actually work and they are incredibly hard to track and discover. The particles that cause them are nonliving, persistent, and can fly under the radar by taking extremely long to incubate, giving them another chance to spread through their niche methods before we can take action. Prion diseases are more of an issue with certain other animals like cows and deer, and they're not a direct threat to humans unless we enter them into our food chain by eating infected animals and/or exhibit a general level of typical human stupidity (cough cough Mad Cow Disease). Like in humans, it's still 100% fatal and incurable in other animals as well
I never knew these existed before Plague Inc. when I started playing it in middle school and I've still never known anything about them until I started playing again recently

Beauty and the Beast was written in 1740 as a critique of the forced marriages between 13-15 year old girls to adult men common at the time. Later versions shifted the emphasis to teach young girls good manners and how to deal with the idea of marrying young and being in an arranged marriage.

BOTD: Red-Breasted Goose
Tumblr media
Red-Breasted Goose (Branta ruficollis)
Classified as vulnerable by the IUCN, the Red-Breasted Goose gets its scientific name from a Latinised form of Old Norse Brandgás "burnt goose" and Latin rufus "red" and collis "necked". They often nest close to the nests of birds of prey, such as Snowy Owls and Rough-Legged Buzzards, which helps to protect it from mammalians that may predate it such as the Arctic Fox. The closer it is to the bird of prey's nest, the safer it is from being predated, and they rely on these birds for defense.

World Pangolin Day 18/02
Today is World Pangolin Day.
Did you know that the pangolin is the only mammal covered in scales. Much like a hedgehog, when a pangolin is startled it rolls into a ball, exposing it's armored scales to the potential predator.
Sadly, these ant eating creatures are the most trafficked mammals in the world, as their scales are used in the production bags, boots and belts. Currently all eight species have the protected status and range from vulnerable to critically endangered.
