Harpy eagle, the largest eagle in the world looks like a person in a bird costume, but judging by the size of his talons, I wouldn't want to make fun of him face to face. They live primarily in the upper canopy layer of tropical lowland forest and are considered "endangered species" in Central America due to the rapid decline in their numbers as a result of deforestation. Less than 50,000 of them can be seen over the world.

Harpy eagles have a hearty appetite and enjoy munching on a variety of monkeys, tree porcupines, sloths, coatis, birds, snakes, and lizards.

After seeing this post, I found some more photos of Lou Sullivan and his birds.....

According to the website I found the photos on, the cockatiel (or at least one of the birds) is named Mr. Bird. The second photo also captions "Mr. Bird" as being in it, though there's no cockatiel in the frame and instead a lovebird and what is probably a budgie, so I don't know if "Mr. Bird" was a nickname for all his birds or just for his cockatiel.

Anyway. Don't mind me getting emotional about also being a trans man who loves birds and has a pet bird and likes houseplants....

I also recently bought a giant bag of pigeon food to start feeding my local feral :3

This adorable little bird is called the black-throated bushtit (no, it’s not a typo).  These little guys are very social and like to travel in flocks of up to 40 birds. They dine on insects as well as small seeds and fruits, but they particularly enjoy raspberries. 

A Junco thrives, even in the darkness and the coldness.

As soon as it gets warm again, they will leave for the tall mountain ranges of North America, very far from the Midwest.  

They are curious winter companions, indeed.

Birds of the marsh

Remember my knife wielding sketchbook birds? Well they've gotten a fine slap of color and are now available as a sticker sheet, individual stickers, & shirts over on Redbubble!

If you buy the sticker sheet be sure to pick the MEDIUM size so the kiss cuts are far enough apart. Medium size sticker sheet makes for 8 bird stickers about 2" on the long side apiece; the large is roughly 8x3" stickers and so on. You can also get them individually or on a shirt if you like! Redbubble is my current solution for merch as A) I cannot afford to guess what's popular and B) cannot store the sheer variety of things that RB can make.
