Gon let out a small breath that dispelled the anxiety from his stomach. Gon was really good at feigning confidence, he faked it so well, its infectious energy made him feel as though he really was brave through everything and gave him the push to do things most people cowed away from.
He only got these feelings right before Gon intuitively felt something terrible was going to happen, like a storm brewing quickly on the horizon while you were in the middle of calm, deep, ominous ocean. The small breath usually centered him again.
“Are you sure you absolutely have to find death?” Gon’s latest companion asked from beside him, flicking a bang of white hair from his sharp blue eyes, his nose scrunched in doubt. Killua was against this plan since Gon’s explained it. Well, Killua’s been against this whole journey Gon was on, but still agreed to help. Now Killua was specifically against this current plan on how to get it done.
“When I spoke to the fae, he told me the Ar-Bar Viva was the best place to get information on Death’s whereabouts.” Gon said, grinning at Killua and Killua once again rolled his eyes.
“Unlikely. No one knows where he is…” Killua muttered darkly to himself, pinning his glance to one side away from the doors ahead of them. Killua has been pessimistic about it but Gon’s been grateful that he’s stuck around anyways. It’s a little disorienting, traversing the aephemeral plane once Gon’s entered, not many humans travel here and fewer even stay here, it’s easy to lose your life to the natural susceptibilities in human like entities here- many try to trick humans out of their lives or- just from their natural purpose- take humans under their influence. Killua who lives here as some sort of being- Gon hasn’t asked and Killua hasn’t offered- been working as a sort of guide to Gon in the realm.
Gon smiled good naturedly to Killua and tried to elbow him playfully, and like all the other times, Killua swerved his body in a way to avoid contact with Gon. Killua was completely averse to physical touch to the point Gon was sure it was in some form to protect Gon. But it made Killua so mildly annoyed and it amused Gon how Killua always sensed just when Gon was trying to touch him that Gon kept attempting every so often, acting like it was out of human habit. Plus Killua hasn’t actually snapped at him about it, so Gon doesn’t think he minds, not really.
“Come on, Killua, you’ve got to have a better mindset about this. This has to work” Gon said, pushing past the doors to get inside the bar, and was immediately swathed in heavy heat floating close to the roof of the establishment and the smell of incense and inebriating smoke. Gon’s eyes swept across the people in the bar who stared back at him like he was the main show, a sore thumb stuck out in a place that would be boring otherwise. Gon might actually be a sore thumb, with some of the gear he’s gathered while he’s been here, a dialette engraved dagger at his hilt, a piercing cloak to keep from being hit by projectiles, fanciful fabric designed on the shimmery surface, a binding spell earring that catches and absorbs any spells thrown his way and allows him to release it back out at his will, he was a little more prepared now than he was before he came here.
But he just stood tall and stared back appraisingly for his target. He knows how to exude enough confidence to trick people into thinking he belongs here, down here, and not to be messed with. The entities here enjoyed drinks and smokes that would probably kill humans or lesser beings, or their brain would melt from what the hallucinogens would reveal to them. Their skins varied in as many colors of the rainbows and others Gon has never seen, some entities with too many eyes and others he couldn’t look directly at because his vision distorted and his brain could not comprehend the shape. Gon finally landed on his target, within an enclave in the wall of the establishment, parted light curtains to create a sense of semi privacy and importance, a snakeful lounging person, the tendrils of their tails curling and crossing so it looks like his upperbody is sitting in a writhing nest, and he sipped on a tall oblong glass while a long thin stick lazed between his pinched and painted lips, smoke tendrils lazily floating up past his hanging talismen.
Gon’s eyebrows set in determination and began making his way across to him like he owned the place.
“Oy.” Killua’s voice cut sharply through the bar’s low voices and music, and Gon felt Killua’s intention to stop. Killua didn’t really touch anything so when he needed to catch someone’s attention, Gon’s found Killua can send out intentions that feel as solid as a phantom touch from a hand or an intuition.
They weren’t too far from the man right now, and he appraised them interested but they were too far for him to ascertain if he was their target. They could still leave. Gon turned to Killua, raising an eyebrow.
“Please don’t tell me that’s who we’re here to see.” Killua said, scolding, caution, and weariness swimming in his eyes. Gon could always read Killua so easily, and he was sort of addicted to seeing what new emotions he could drag up into Killua’s face. “It’s a bad idea, Gon. That one is no good. He’s a trickster, a gambler, almost everything he says is a lie and almost never upholds his ends of his deals.” Killua explained in a hushed tone, giving a quick glance around at those around him.
“I’m pretty good at telling when someone is lying.” Gon assured Killua, and reached out his hand to grab Killua’s assuringly. Or he would if Killua didn’t swing his hand the other way and give Gon an irritated unimpressed look while Gon suppressed a smile. Poorly. “Even if he doesn’t give me everything, I know I can get the information I need.” Gon said and turned back to the man. Killua’s wall to keep him in place was no longer there and Gon went on with his plan. Behind him, Gon’s blessed ears heard Killua muttered, “I dont like this…”
Gon approached the snake man, and he could practically feel the other patrons at the bar vibrate with excitement, they had bloodlust and wanted to see violence. It raised Gon’s awareness, acute to any sudden movements, their energy prepping Gon for a fight from the man but he was surprised when the snake made no effort to stop or address Gon as he stepped past the curtain and talisman hanging above the enclave. Killua turned at the entrance of the seating area and leaned against the wall, perched with ease but a dangerous aura surrounding him to keep others from trying anything funny.
“Mmhh, what do I owe the pleasure of such a beautiful human specimen visiting me?” The snake man asked with a husky voice.
“Where can I find death?” Gon asked, no point in dancing around what he needs if this man will just try to talk him into circles. He grinned wider.
“What’s your name?” The snake asked. Gon just shook his head in response and caught Killua’s approving nod from the corner of his eye. The man grinned wider.
“We can exchange, my name is Hisoka.” The snake said and put out a hand to shake, black intricate markings on the back of his hand like beautiful vase work. Killua glanced over his shoulder at Hisoka and then back out over the general audience of the bar which had gotten back into their normal routine. Gon glanced at the hand, he knew no harm could really come to him if it’s from a casted spell or projectile. But he didn’t know what kind of entity was Hisoka, he could die naturally just by Hisoka’s purpose or some other means he can’t account for him.
“You know I am human, so I’ll be cautious of touch.” Gon said to Hisoka. Hisoka’s wired his mouth to one side but still seemed highly in a good mood.
“Alright, I understand, human.” The snake purred with the back of his tongue. “You asked for information. This I do not give out free.” Hisoka said. Gon tensed but nodded. He knows this much at least. But he has to know- Death’s the one that will most likely have Kite. Gon was so stupid, deadset on finding his father, he didn’t realize he could lose someone that was with him through the journey the whole time. Gon had to find him to see Kite one last time and apologize. Make sure Kite knows how much he meant to Gon. Gon grew up a sailor, he knows how to bargain.
“Name your price, we can see if we come to an agreement.” Gon said. Hisoka grinned with a sharp set of teeth but the next time he opened his mouth, they were harmless, human sets.
“I do not need much, I will tell you what I know. All I want is for you to do a favor for me before you leave the bar.” Hisoka said.
“Lies.” Killua whispered but it felt like Gon could hear it sweetly only in his ears.
“Mh, cute friend you have here.” Hisoka grinned towards Killua and Gon bristled.
“I won’t kill anyone. And I do not have enough money to buy something exorbitant.” Gon said. Hisoka grinned and nodded.
“That’s not a problem. I have information you want, but honestly, it’s not exclusive to me. It’d be mean to ask for a large favor in response, I want a favor equal to what you are asking for. No buying, no crazy actions, it’s really just something simple.” Hisoka said.
“Why not clear up what the favor is right now?” Gon asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Well, that’s information, and part of the exchange is information, isn’t it?” Hisoka grinned and Gon let out a breath before looking Hisoka over. He seems harmless, relaxed enough that he doesn’t even seem poised to attack or fight. Nothing tells Gon he should be worried about a physical resistance. So now it’s just mind games or puzzles he’d have to worry about. And with Killua with him, he has nothing to worry about. Gon gave a curt nod once to agree to Hisoka’s terms.
The snake coils tightened and writhed excitedly as Hisoka leaned forward, pulling the smoke of whatever it was from his lips and placing the flute of drink down, but his face didn’t betray any excitement. With a last exhale of smoke from his lips, Hisoka met Gon’s face properly.
“You’re looking for death, but to find him, you should understand his position in this realm. You’ve heard of the four horsemen of the apocalypse: war, famine, conquest, and of course death. They are family, and work in both tandem and against each other. They should never strike together, lest the apocalypse begins, but they all have work and purpose in the human realm.” Hisoka said and Gon nodded, listening intently. “Well, they have their locations here in the aephermeral realm, an ashen landscape with towers for each to commune and also stay apart from each other.” Hisoka said. “The badlands.”
Gon stiffened, immediately latching onto that piece of information. The badlands- ashen, towers- he can find it. Then he can find death and then he can find Kite and apologize to him. Hisoka’s tongue flickered out while his eyes widened with pleasant surprise.
“Ah, the way your eyes light up is beautiful… such determination! You must be really determined to chase your kill… But it’s not that easy, Gon. There’s been… a recent development.” Hisoka grinned and Gon narrowed his eyes in suspicion, a slight uneasy feeling in his stomach. He let out a small breath to get his confidence back and listen with baseless assurance.
“Recently the horsemen death has run from his position in a powergrab dash, took conquest and ran off with their handler- diablo.” Hisoka grinned, having too much fun weaving this tale. Gon’s spine tingled with unease.
“The devil?” Gon asked, a bit breathless. He knew that there were a lot of entities that influenced the human realm here- greed, cowardice, the tingly feeling you get when that one mirror is uncovered in the attic- but he didn’t think anything as big as a god like the devil was down here.
“He drives the four horsemen forward, they bend to his will. Once his master plan is ready, thats when he’ll direct them to attack all at once to bring the apocalypse. But now he has left with the horsemen- the rumors around the place is either death stole the devil away with unknown magicks to control the handler and come into power through puppetry rule, or the devil convinced death and conquest to run with him.” Hisoka explained. “No one really knows what happened, except maybe the other horsemen and riders. And no one can really confirm- you see, if you enter the badlands unprepared, you can lose all your memories, your soul, even your life. So the number of people who have seen who the horsemen are or what they look are slim and far inbetween, except for a few exceptions- close confidants, allies, riders and inhabitants of the badlands- the harbingers. So that might be your best bet to find where death is. Start with his domain.” Hisoka said, emphasizing the unsurity of this whole quest. But Gon already knew that this is all based on blindly groping around untrodden territory! It won’t be the reason he slows down now. Gon frowned as his mind whirled with the information, trying to develop next solid steps based on maybes and guesses.
“What about the kills? Can I find the spirits death takes in his domain?” Gon asked. Maybe if he didn’t know where death was but found where he kept the souls, he can sneak in and out after finding Kite. It was only a slight backstep that Death has run from his post.
“Sorry, death takes the souls, but doens’t tend to them, that is for the death’s angel, hades, to manage. You won’t find the souls in death’s domain.” Hisoka said. Gon huffed, but he needed either hades or death to direct him. Well, either way it sounds like his next steps are to go to the badlands and find out where death went or where hades keep the souls. He’s getting closer tho.
“Thank you for the information.” Gon said, his voice serious as he continued to keep his full attention onto Hisoka. “I want to get started right away, so… your favor, that I need to do before I leave here, what is it?”
There was a noticeable shift in the air as Hisoka narrowed his eyes. It seeped from Hisoka and spread until it affected the whole bar. It made Gon’s hair stand on end and Killua sat stragihter up from the wall alert.
“My favor… Gon…” Hisoka said and Gon shuddered, cold chill running through him- he never told this demon his name. “If you can go ahead and die for me.” Hisoka grinned and the bar sprang into action.
Gon let out a choking gasp, turning to see every entity in the bar unload their ethereal weapons, melee and long range, soul and physical. Gon turned back to Hisoka, livid. He smashed his fists into the back plush of the seat Hisoka was just sitting in, having made his getaway in the split second Gon turned his attention away.
“Gon!” Killua’s voice cracked through the static ringing in Gon’s ears. Gon’s eyes snapped back to the enclave entrance where Killua was attempting to block the way inside. But he had no weapons and his thin and wiry frame lended to no intimidation to these people. Gon’s adrenaline was running and he needed to focus now to protect his partner, give that rage outlet somewhere to go.
Gon pushed forward past the curtains billowing behind him, and pulled out his dialette dagger, coming just in time as Killua flinched out the way of a sword’s downward swing. He caught the edge with his re-inforced dagger and pushed them back with a spray of stardust. He turned and jabbed his dagger into another one nearby and kicked back with his foot to keep another one from advancing on them.
Gon caught Killua’s expression as he turned to attack another bar patreon, genuine fear swimming in those beautiful pools of blue, and Gon let out another angry growl. He knew coming to the aephemeral plane, his life would be at risk, but it was worth it for Kite. He could throw it all away knowing what he was gambling with. But Killua who has been a constant companion for weeks now, soft and gentle, witty and funny, he’s here out of the goodness of his heart, or whatever equivalent, and the fact that Hisoka would threaten his life while Gon was around, it made him even angrier.
“Gon, to your left!” Killua called out, pressing himself closer to the wall. Shit, Gon learned how to fight well during his times in the aephemeral realm, and he knows how to bar brawl but this was becoming overwhelming. It was one thing to fight whatever his fists made contact with while everyone else was against everyone else too, but all eyes were on him and they were starting to swarm.
Gon slashed another person down and jolted as a soul piercing arrow hit his cloak, but not him- still safe. He growled and released the spells from his binding earrings, a shot of fire into the entitiy and knocked them off their feet. Another took their place and Gon stabbed forward, but they clenched their muscles as they fell back and the dagger flew from Gon’s grasp, lodged in their body. Gon let out a surprised cry and he vaguely heard Killua cry his name but Gon’s static in his ears were much too loud as he saw the large bull man bring a heavy two handed axe down over his head. He had alot of magick protection but nothing for blunt damage.
The next thing Gon saw was a pale hand griping the bull man’s wrist. It was petite and didn’t even wrap fully around the bulky wrist, it seemed almost staged how this grip stopped the full moment swing. But the bull man let out a horrified cry as the skin in contact with this hand began to gray and wring out. The eyes glazed over, losing its color to a misty gray and the bull fell over, half his arm looking like something from a crypt. This happened in a few seconds and it stopped everyone in their tracks for a moment. Gon blinked, what just happened?
Then Killua was moving in front of him, a dark glower on his face and his eyes so dark blue they were almost black as they were shadowed by his bangs. Gon shivered, he looked terrifying, his aura immense like Gon’s never felt since being here- since being next to Killua. The crowd recovered and attempted to push past Killua to get to Gon and that proved multiple people’s fatal mistake. With a flash of blue fire, a white hot steel scythe materialized and with an effortless swing, braced around Killua’s hips, three of the closest people fell to their death, their eyes various shades of white and grays.
Gon stumbled back, adrenaline crashing down and leaving him breathless, watching Killua keep the crowd off them.
“I was serious when I set to help you.” Hisoka’s voice sounded in Gon’s ear and he startled, turning his head. He registered Hisoka floating besides him- no, the end of his seemingly never ending snake tail was wrapped up in the rafter’s of the bar’s roof, suspending him at Gon’s level. Then Hisoka was smacking a piece of paper to Gon’s face but he could see through it like it was sheer fabric.
“What are you-”
“The favor you gave me is the most fun I could have asked for- this talisman of true seeing will help you on your true next step of the journey.” Hisoka said and physically turned Gon’s head to look back at Killua. It was a little disorienting, it was like seeing two different pictures overlapping with each other in each of his eyes but then the magicks kicked in and Gon could see Killua’s form bleeding through what Gon knew Killua to look like this whole time. Half a face of skull, blue flames dancing around him, a billowing cloak made of the galaxy expanse and the black and blue and silver and white sythe, the image flicking as he gave another smooth upward slash and claiming four more souls in the motion. Gon’s been traveling with who he has been chasing this whole time.
Killua was the pale horseman, Death.

Anime Recommendations!
Hi everyone, I hope y’all are safe and happy! With quarantine still in place (at least in my country), I’m gonna keep the random rec lists coming! I’ve been watching a lotttt of animes and rewatching favourites, so I thought I’d share some of my favourites of all time! A lot of them are pretty mainstream, but for my friends who aren’t really into anime, these will get you hooked! In no particular order, let’s get started!
1. Snow White with the Red Hair, 24 episodes
Tumblr media
This is hands down my favourite anime of all time. This shoujo anime make me feel so happy and it’s so wholesome, honestly such a feel good anime. Without spoiling too much, it’s about a herbalist named Shirayuki who ends up having to flee her home country and ends up meeting Prince Zen and goes to live in his country. The cast of characters in the anime is so good, there’s not a character to dislike. The genuine build up of friendship and eventual romance is just so sweet please watch.
2. Demon slayer (26 episodes)
Tumblr media
One of the best anime I’ve watched this past year. This anime has amazing plot, awesome animation and a great cast of characters. This anime follows Tanjiro as he becomes a demon slayer after a demon killed his family. Tanjiro and his sister, Nezuko were the only survivors but Nezuko was turned in a demon and now Tanjiro is on a journey to change he back into a human. If you are into anime with amazing fight scenes, I highly recommend.
3. Hunter x Hunter (148 episodes)
Tumblr media
I am currently watching this anime and it honestly made it onto my lists of favourite anime super quickly. The series starts with Gon and his quest to become a pro hunter and find his dad and goes on from there. With so many episodes and arcs, you can’t stop watching. The characters immediately hooked me on this show, Killua and Gon’s friendship is one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen in anime, I literally want to adopt both of them. This anime is so heartwarming but also kinda dark and action packed.
4. Haikyuu!! (73 episodes, on-going)
Tumblr media
My favourite sports anime my god. Haikyuu follows a high school volleyball team as they try to make it to nationals. This series made me so much more emotional than I thought it would, but you get so involved with the team and characters and want them to succeed. All of the characters from all of the teams are also fantastic and hilarious. If you need a fun but exciting anime, please please please watch Haikyuu!!
5. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (64 episodes)
Tumblr media
Where to even begin. I would say this is one of the most popular anime and for good freaking reason. Without giving too much away, this anime follows brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric as they go on a quest to get their bodies back. Honestly this is one of my fav animes, if you like awesome fight scenes and really intriguing plot, you will love this anime.
6. Yona of the Dawn (24 episodes)
Tumblr media
Another amazing anime but sadly, unfinished. I think this anime is best to watch w/o knowing very much. Just know that there is really good characters and character development and a very attractive love interest :))))
7. Soul eater (51 episodes)
Tumblr media
One of the first animes I ever watched and as I remember it’s hella awesome, if you like halloween then the whole atmosphere of this anime will intrigue you. The fight scenes in this are really fun and so are the characters. If you need a fun medium length anime, I would recommend this one!
8. Inuyasha (193 episodes)
Tumblr media
This anime is worth all the hype in my opinion. The plot was great, the characters are fantastic and romance is so freaking cute I can’t. I’m also a sucker for asshole characters who are secretly really sweet.
9. Fruits Basket (2019) (25 episodes (S1), S2 on-going)
Tumblr media
This is the cutest anime. The whole cast characters is amazing and you get so attached so fast. The protagonist is so sweet and optimistic and I really just wanna protect her. I went into this knowing next nothing and I think that’s the best way to do it. The 2001 version is good too but 2019 has better animation and is closer to managa (and has more episodes!).
10. My Hero Academia (88 episodes, on-going)
Tumblr media
I love this anime with my whole heart. There is an adorable cast of characters and amazing fight scenes, I love this sm. It’s set in a world where like 95% of the population has ‘quirks’ which are basically super powers but not all of them are super powerful. Super heroes protect cities and the anime follows a high school where the students are training to become heroes. The main character is born without a quirk but through some crazy circumstances he ends up acquiring one. In my opinion this anime is worth the hype.
11. Ouran Highschool Host Club (26 episodes)
Tumblr media
This one is wild. Ouran Highschool Host club is so iconic and it’s hilarious, I laughed out loud watching this one so much. Honestly I went into this knowing nothing and I think its funnier that way.
12. Yuri!!! On Ice (13 episodes)
Tumblr media
THIS ANIME. The first sports anime w/ canon LGBTQ+ romance and its beautiful. I love the style, the skating, the music, the characters, just everything about it. This follows Yuri Katsuki, a professional figure skater from Japan and his skating career. After messing up a major championship, Yuri is lost and doesn’t know what to do w/ his career. After seeing a video of Yuri skate, his idol Victor, a skating legend, shows up to be his coach. Please watch this anime.
13. Attack on Titan (62 episodes, on-going)
Tumblr media
If you are looking for a badass action anime this is the one for you. Humanity has fallen to the mercy of giant man-eating titans, and the people that survived live within a walled city to keep the titans out. This anime is a little disturbing and violent but it is so badass. Also Levi, the most badass character ever, makes this entire anime worth watching.
14. Ao Haru Ride (12 episodes)
Tumblr media
Hands down my favourite romance anime. This anime is so freaking cute and it gave me so many fuzzy feelings. The animation is also super nice so that is always a plus. It follows Futaba and Kou who liked each other in middle school but were separated. They meet again in high school but they have both changed so much. If you want a romance anime I really recommend this one.
15. Naruto (720 episodes)
Tumblr media
This is a freaking classic and really long. Almost everyone and their mother has heard of this anime or watched some of it before. Basically it’s about ninjas and follows mainly Naruto Uzumaki who want to eventually be the leader of his village but his ninja skills need a lot of work. I honestly didn’t think I would love this anime as much as I did but its just so good. It is a very big commitment to finish though so be prepared.
16. Your Lie in April (22 episodes)
Tumblr media
Well this anime is literally beautiful. It is centered around 2 teens w/ major musical talent. It gets deep very fast but its also light hearted and wholesome. This anime made me cry like a baby so get your tissues ready.

Obsessive Killua Zoldyck x Female Reader [No way out]
Constellation: Obsessive Killua Zoldyck x Female Reader Words I got: → Storm → Danger → Cave Sentence I got: You still couldn't believe what you had seen a few hours before. Rating: Teenage and up Audience/ Mature (a little bit) Warning: Little Description of Violence
                   ►► Running away has many different meanings.                                    For some, it's like playing tag.                                    For others, it's sheer escape.                  And for a few, it is nothing more than mere suicide. ◄◄
Your breath comes in gasps over your lips as the storm lashes the rain against your face, tugging at your hair and chilling your skin. Goosebumps have spread across your numb skin, but it can't compete with the inner heat that has been germinating inside you since you started running. You have to get away. From him. From this family that could hardly be more sickening and finds nothing reprehensible in their behaviour. If you stayed, there would be no chance of survival, even if part of you wants to believe that Killua would protect you. But he is only a thirteen-year-old boy who knows little of the world itself, as you like to believe. He doesn't understand what's so scary about assassins, and he doesn't understand that you don't want to be part of a world full of torture and fear.
Branches whip around your legs, getting partially tangled in your clothes, which cling wetly to you as if they were a second skin. Your lungs burn and a glance back reveals that the Zoldyck estate has disappeared. Instead, you are surrounded by endless trees and bushes that offer you light shelter, but no one can tell you when the butlers will find you – or Killua.
For a moment you dare to stop, take a breath and recover your strength, even though the uncertainty is at your back and won't let you escape. All this you had imagined differently.
Killua, after Gon and he had parted ways at the end, had decided to take a short breather at home. And he had invited you. You'd already spent a lot of time with the two of them, starting in Greed Island and beyond, during which your love for Killua had risen and his affections had wavered in your direction as well. Once, when Gon hadn't been looking, there had been a kiss, brief and shy, but meaningful, as if you had a chance together. After that, Killua had changed.
He became more attentive. Always got in front of you. He constantly knew where you were and he demanded that you stay close to him. All that had been kind of sweet. The thought of someone caring for you so intensely had warmed your heart. But you had missed the signs of his obsession.
When he had brought you home with him, there had been his parents. A father who eyed everything quietly and a mother who had almost melted with delight. Then Killua had shown you the torture rooms because there had been interest.
And the next moment you were busy running away.
With difficulty you try to put one foot in front of the other. You must not stop until the estate is completely behind you. But the forest seems endless and your heart is pounding wildly, because the calm doesn't want to come and the fear is deep in your bones. And it is precisely this fear that gets you moving again.
Over roots, in the pouring rain that gets colder and colder, it drives you forward. Always past the same images. There is nothing here but this forest and more forest beyond, endlessly, ceaselessly, until your legs are almost numb and you get caught on something that pulls you down.
A suppressed scream sticks in your throat before you hit the muddy ground and for a moment you can't breathe. You lie still, inhaling and exhaling, before you quickly pick yourself up and slip away again.
Cursing, you slam both fists to the ground, a little distressed, a little breathless, until a little further in the distance a narrow hole comes into view and promises rescue. You crawl towards it on all fours and with every metre you get closer you realise that it is more of a crack that seems to lead into a cave.
As you reach the passage, you barely wait a moment before you stand up on both legs and push your way through the opening. It is wide enough for you, somehow, leading straight into the inner arena, which widens after the first two metres and lets you into an almost open antechamber. The bare stone walls are dimly lit by flickering torches and the first thing that really occurs to you is that it might be a way out. At the end of the room is a staircase leading down, presumably to underground passages that you can follow to get out in another city. That would simplify a lot. So you follow the ideal of an idea and hurry down the steps.
The light lasts every inch of the way. Almost as if the torches are changed regularly so that this place will never be surrounded by darkness. You take the steps double, jumping down like a rabbit in its own burrow until you reach the bottom.
The air down here is stuffy, humid and musty, joining only a metallic note you can't place. In front of you is a narrow corridor that leads straight into another room. There are no junctions here, nor does escape seem possible. Nevertheless, you follow the corridor, hoping for a way out at the end, and almost start to run until the knob of the wooden door on the other side is in your hand.
It is frighteningly warm.
You turn it, open the barrier and it opens barely a crack before the pungent smell of blood and urine hits your nostrils. It is sharp, stinging in your eyes, gathering tears in your lower lids as you let the door swing open with a push and briefly take in the image before you.
All of a sudden, Killua's stories come to you visually, awakening wild thoughts that jump up and down. He told you about all kinds of things. Moments when someone was nailed to the wall by the arms and legs, howling because the rusty nails burned in the wounds. People squirming under electric shocks so that they would reveal information before the electricity made the blood boil and the flesh stew.
Across from you, heavy chains lie on the floor while thousands of whips and knives, nails and needles adorn the walls. Blood has drawn dried patterns across the floor, hangs fresh on some blades that have been neatly placed on a metal plate.
The sudden sigh behind you sends a shiver down your spine, cold and biting. “This is one of the newer torture chambers, because my mother complained about the noise that sometimes resounds through the house when she's trying to sleep.”
Quick as a flash, you turn and try to gain distance, but you don't get far before the click reaches your ears and you can feel the resistance against your neck. A collar of iron, just for you.
“Killua...I...” you begin, but can't find the right words. There is fear, uncertainty and panic about what he plans to do with you. The only thing that is certain is that you are in danger and you will never forget the images you saw almost visually in front of you just a few hours before, because Killua knows how to describe something vividly. Partially, you still can't believe it.
“What's wrong?” Uncertainly, Killua tilts his head. His gaze is normal, his pose casual. One hand he keeps hidden in the pocket of his shorts, while with the other he firmly holds the chain to your collar. The long-sleeved shirt on his body is dry, as if it had never come into contact with the storm out there.
“I'm sorry if I scared you,” he mumbles a moment later, and for a second hope sprouts.
“Let me go then,” you beg him, but there is nothing more than bewilderment reflected on his features.
“Then you would run away again.” He pronounces it as if it were natural to bind people you love to you with a chain. “That's just for your safety.”
Probably he's talking about the butlers and the beast in the front garden, all of whom tend to kill anyone who moves freely without permission. They would see you as prey no less than Killua does, except that he cares about you. At least that's what he claims.
“Killua...” you begin again, indecisive yet pleading. “I-I won't run away. Really, I won't. But you scare me.”
His eyes widen before he presses his lips tightly together and pulls harshly on your chain, causing you to stumble towards him. It's impossible to stop before you bump into him and the warmth of his body seems to warm a part of you. He doesn't put an arm around you, but you can hear his heart beating faster and feel him slowly lean down towards you.
“I won't let anything happen to you. You are mine and no one will take you away. Not the people on our journeys, nor my family.” The chain rattles as he eases up and places his other hand gently on your cheek, making you look at him in the very next blink. His gaze is full of care, but his words seem like poison in your blood. Because you know he won't let you go. Not until you are dead.

Love and self-deception
The main reason why I truly believe CAA is “Killua’s love and realization arc” it’s that the arc itself is centered around love themes. Palm, Meruem and Komugi are examples - even though Meruem was first presented as an evil threat, he gradually becomes more and more love-centered.
Killua is very good at presuming and analyzing things, and even with little information about the situation, he was mostly right. Pulling the needle out not only released him from manipulation, but also released his heart and got in touch with his feelings. He’s now free - but to be free is to be vulnerable and open. He’s now aware of his feelings and of everything that it brings - either warmth, confusion and fear.
Tumblr media
CAA is when Killua’s actions are more affection-oriented, so is his thinking process. For him, it’s not unlikely that Komugi must be someone important to the King. If Killua, a person "tainted by his past as an assassin, damned by darkness and unworthy of friends”, was capable of finding love and affection, why couldn’t the King? That one creature born to kill and to rule.
He knew that killing Komugi would've made Gon feel terrible later, but it’s not only about that: if he had doubt Komugi’s significance, he would have to doubt himself. He’s already experiencing enough self-deception “stages”:
- Switching between reactive and distant because he can’t open up, but can’t help fear what Gon must feel about him. He’s afraid of rejection and decides to protect himself from this possibility, so he thought that pushing him forward was the best way to prevent that from happening while proving he believes in Gon, doesn’t want to be nuisance and respect his goals;
Tumblr media
- Believing that his self-doubt thoughts are true (being “unworthy” and “dark”, that Gon brought him together as an “obligation”, his fear of not being helpful in such a difficult moment for his friend, the thought that he’s inferior compared to him, this kind of stuff). He can’t see it’s just reflecting painful realities and unresolved issues he doesn’t want to admit. He also believed he was rejected when Gon pushed him away, without realizing that those words reflects more about Gon’s issues, it’s not about Killua himself. So, he naturally jumps to his own conclusions to justify the distance created for “self-protection”;
Tumblr media
- Separating his behavior from his feelings (jealousy about Palm).
Tumblr media
And just like Komugi, when it comes to losing in Gungi or losing her beloved, he bets his life shinjuu for Gon. If Gon wins, they would share the victory, like always. If Gon loses, he will not abandon him and will share the same outcome. Love does not prevail only when good things happen and does not fall when facing obstacles. He realized it’s love.
Another realization comes with ”you’re the one Gon needs the most”, leading him to reach Gon out of love by calling his name instead of sacrificing his life. If Gon needs him, ne needs to live. He wasn’t rejected, but still can’t admit it so he’ll make himself useful again and again, being faithful to Gon.
 And after that, finally, the realization that some things must change.
Tumblr media
It’s not punishment or revenge. He truly wants Gon to get better and to acknowledge his acts, and tries to make it rational. “I want you to get better so you make it up to me”. He gives Gon a new chance of reflecting and make things right for his own safety, but it’s a new beginning for Killua too, a journey in search of being honest with himself and find out what he really wants, why he wants and why he acts this way. Even though he does not want to separate, being this way will not make them happy.
They separate out of love, genuinely wanting each other to grow better and independent.

Maybe like a short kurapika comfort thing ? Like you're really sad for some reason and he just tries his best to comfort you. If you don't mind💜
just wanted to say that you were my first request <3 you are so sweet! i’m writing this as a blurb/one shot, i hope that’s okay! thank you so much once again :)
word count: 818
omg it came out lil longer than i expected sorry :(
ratings/warnings: a lil bit of angst, but the fluff makes up for it i promise!!! also kurapika is kinda corny, but i genuinely think he would be this way when he’s in luv <3 the only warning i can think of for depression/mental illness. if you’re struggling with any of that pls feel free to send me an ask to talk I am always here <3
okay that is enough of that I hope this is okay !!
Kurapika was always a man of few words. He was keen on the idea that if you weren’t going to say anything of importance, that it would be best to not say anything at all. You understand and respected this. It usually worked out very well, when something was wrong, you both would just sit silence. For some, (especially Gon), this was something that always confused them. But it worked, and it stayed that way for a little while.
But you were getting worse. Things were getting worse. And you didn’t know why.
You had Gon, Killua, Leorio, and of course, Kurapika. All of these four people loved you in so many different ways. They cared for you, they fought for you, they were always present.
But the emptiness in your heart just wouldn’t go away. And you just didn’t know why.
Kurapika was away that day, probably on some special journey with Gon and Killua, since they were always dragging him somewhere. That morning, he asked you to come with them.
“No it’s okay,” you said, “I’m not feeling too good, I would probably just bring you guys down.”
He looked at you, an eyebrow raised, “Suit yourself darling, but you would never bring us down. You know that.” And with that he gave you a kiss on the forehead and off he went.
You cleaned the whole house, tried reading (but failed), turned on a movie, but nothing.
Absolutely nothing could stop the pain in your heart.
It was a foolish pain. It was always lurking for no reason. Telling you that you weren’t loved, telling you that you were worthless. It was always there, just in different intensities.
You weren’t like the rest of them. You weren’t some strong hunter, you were just a person. A person with too many feelings and zero clue as to why they were there. Your mind and heart were battlegrounds, but there was no battle being fought.
You stood in front the mirror and stared at your reflection. The bags under your eyes were prominent, since you hadn’t gotten a goodnight’s sleep in days. You reached forward and put a hand on the mirror, a single tear trailing down your cheek.
“Why Y/N…why do we feel this way…” The tears started flowing a little more freely.
“You are being selfish. You have everything, more than you could ever ask for. You aren’t the person you were…so why…why does it hurt so much. Why doesn’t it go away?”
You set your hands down onto the sink to hold yourself steady, your vision cloudy with your tears. As more and more tears started coming, you couldn’t hold back the tiny sobs escaping. You covered your mouth to muffle them, as you slowly slid onto the bathroom floor.
“It hurts so much.” You whispered.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” A voice whispered from the doorway.
You turned around and saw Kurapika standing there, a tear trailing down his cheek.
You shook your head, “I-I didn’t want to worry you. There are more important things to worry about than me being sad for no reason.”
He crouched down, eyes level with yours. He gently grasped your cheek in his hand, and gave your nose a small peck.
“There is nothing in this world more important to me than you.”
You chuckled, wiping away your tears, “Not even killing those spiders?”
“Nothing at all.” His face remaining serious.
You looked down at your feet, as he inched closer and embraced you as tightly as he could. It was too hard to hold back, and you broke down in his arms. He drew small circles on your back, lightly humming in your ear as your sobs echoed throughout the room.
“Why does it hurt so much…it just doesn’t stop hurting…” His grasp tightened a little harder.
“I don’t know dove, I don’t know. Pain is a confusing thing,” He pulled away from you as you looked back up at him.
“But what I do know, is that you have strength, whether you believe it yourself or not. You have a heart of gold, you are loving, you are kind, you are compassionate, and I have never been so lucky to hold someone as bright as you in my arms.”
“You really think so?” You mumbled.
“You are brighter than the brightest star in the night sky.”
After that, he embraced you once more. For a while, you both stayed in that position as long as possible. It was silent, as usual, but Kurapika had done more than make you feel comfortable. He had made you feel loved, wanted, appreciated.
You know it would take you a while to yourself the way he loved you, but together you were both just two stars dancing in the night sky, hoping to somehow make it through.
And that was all you needed.

I wanted to do this since a long time .... I'll upload infos about my HxH oc!
Friendly reminder that I'll lovely accept advices and constructive criticism! Just do not spread random hate. <3 Creating characters should be fun, not something people should insult each other for!
CW: mentions of violence and family loss.
Tumblr media
Imagine having a serious oc but the only decent drawing you have is one where they are embarassed.
Okay, let's start this.
BIOLOGICAL INFO
Name: Lewis
Meaning of name: "Illustrious warrior"
Gender: Female
Age: 18 years old
Date of Birth: 27th January (Aquarius vibes biatch)
Place of Birth: Lukso, Kurta clan (don't worry there's a reason for her survival)
Height: 1,57 cm
Weight: 51 kg
Blood type: 0-
Hair: wavy and dark brown. Shorter behind and longer on the sides.
Eyes: brown. her eye shape is sharp, giving her almost all the time a judging and serious look.
Skin: pale, there are a few white scars on her body due some fights.
Body: thanks to the training her father made her pass throught in order to be capable to protect herself, Lewis has an athletic and kind of muscular body. Sometimes it's difficult for her to keep up fighting and training due an illness concerning her legs' bones.
OCCUPATION + PERSONALITY + CLOTHES
Occupation: Blacklist hunter. She's willing to accept assignments from wealthy families (for example, Nostrade's family), but the quest, in order to be accepted, can not surpass boundaries set up by Lewis herself.
Personality: at first glance, Lewis can come off as a sarcastic but overall serious and cold brat. Due her being cautious, random friends and chit chats are a big "no", she will low her standars if the she finds someone intersting and cultured. In fact, for her, culture and intelligence count more than everything else. Her realistic, harsh irony and coldness may soften if someone forms a strong bond with her (but if you think they will be safe from her scarcasm, oh boy, you're so wrong). Slowly, her enthusiastic and curious side will come off. Small warning: joke about her height and you'll get lovely beaten up.
Likes: books, learning, smart people, cats, traveling, fighting.
Hates: ignorant people, loud noises, seeing children and innocent people suffer, killing without any particular reason.
Clothes: total black style, so it's easier for her to not be seen in the dark and during the night. She wears a sleeveless jumper, with shorts and high boots. She also wears her father's gloves in his memory and a neckacle with a blue pendant in hyaline quartz.
NEN AND FIGHTING SKILLS
Nen type: transmuter. Her hatsu consists in transmuting her aura in heat, elevating the temperature until the creation of flames ( red flames are the "weakest", the strongest one are blue -purple flames, said to reach 1400 degrees on the Celsius scale). In order to protect herself from the flames, she wraps a little bit of aura around herself, but sometimes her skin gets burnt from her hatsu, thats why she counts more on a "speed" strategy more than a "strenght" one.
When her scarlet eyes are active, she become a Specialist (I deduced every Kurta does and not just Kurapika, since the scarlet eyes are a really particular thing, what do you guys think?). When in this state, her flames and explosione created by them are way more intense and her aura gets wider. But obviously she has an harsh condition: in order to use it she has to use her own body as fuel (so that's why she has to eat regularly, not allowed to be weak).
When the scarlet eyes aren't active, her nen uses her energy and, when in En, external resources in an area of 9 meters as fuel (so if you feel yourself or the air around you becoming cold, you better keep constant distance from her).
Fighting style (hand-to-hand): her father trained her to muay thai.
TRIVIA
Her father taught her how to play the violin, but she does it rarely due painful memories;
She admires Gon's desire to meet his father because she understand that feeling, she would do anything to meet her mother or remember more and more about her;
She is inspired to Lewis Carroll, the writer of "Alice in Wonderland". Why? Originally she was a BSD and Carroll is my favourite writer together with Tolkien;
She often scolds Kurapika because he is careless about himself;
Lewis has met Hisoka before. She was in search for money and ended up fighting with him.
Why did I make her a Kurta? Six years ago, when I created her (and I didn't watch HxH) I added this thing about her eyes having a red hue when angry due her ability. Then I watched HxH and was like "wtf Lewis";
The meaning behind the name "Lewis" helped me defining her personality;
I lowkey ship her with Kurapika because of their personalities becoming even more complex when together. Their story is a whole mess because they believe that by becoming a couple, they'd just destroy each other.
BACKSTORY
Lewis was born in Lukso, along with her beloved twin brother. Her family was watched with doubt and oddity by the other members of her clan due both her parents being Hunters.
Her mother, a Virus Hunter, passed away when Lewis and her brother were five years old, so their father, a Blacklist Hunter, took the responsibility to teach them about self-defense, the outside world and to always have a goal in life. So the twins grew up knowing how to fight and the desire of making their life complete.
After her 13th birthday, Lewis decided to take the Hunter Exam (because she wanted it? Well yes, but she also aimed at making her father proud). Succeding the exam to exit the clan and greeting her people, she started her journey to get her Hunter License.
Once she got the license, after a long road, Lewis was ready to return to her forest with pride and victorious and show her clan what she was worth. So you can imagine how she felt when during her return trip she heard about the slaughter of the "demonic Kurta clan".
So pained that she couldn't even manage to return to her home, Lewis strayed for two years and half on the streets, living off the duties of a Blacklist Hunter, and then affording a decent house in Yorknew city.
What do I do now, she asked herself. Her desire to make the Troupe pay for their genocide marched together with her will to follow her father and her brother's desire: help the weake, live life to the fullest and become the best version of your soul.
That's how Lewis lives, the grief and rage battling against the desire to go on and live for herself. What will win this fight?
YORKNEW ARK
So time passes on and Lewis decides to try and get the eyes of her clan that will be exposed to the Auction.
How can she achieve this little goal? Of course she had money, but not that much to afford her purchase.
That's how she ended up meeting two little boys who came there for a videogame called "Greed Island" and a man. Their names were Killua, Gon and Leorio.
Lewis' first plan was just to do something similar to a business contract, you help me and I help you. But her planning mind didn't take in consideration the fact that this move would have changed her life.
When she told the three boys what she wanted to buy at the Auction, the group immediatly looked at each other, asking her what she found amusing about a pair of eyes took away from some innocent person.
"Let's call it... personal interest" she answered. Her vague response ringed a bell on Killua's mind, making him thinking she was a member of the infamous Phantom Troupe.
Gon, Killua and Leorio immediatly came up with a plan to make that misterious girl confess her identity and show them her spider tatoo. The plan was perfect and the three of them, after a week, cornered Lewis, ready to attack.
Little did they know about her being sligthly annoyed by this "betrayal".
Leorio's jaw almost dropped to the floor when Lewis' scarlet eyes came out instinctively. The kurta quickly hid her face but it was too late.
Gon was confused because... how did she survive the massacre?
Killua meditated if it was the case to rush and call Kurapika. Or was it a trick to prove false innocence?
With lots of sighs and sarcastic jokes like "yeah I'm the boss of that shitty Troupe, wanna come at our Christmas dinner this year?", the girls sat down and waited for that Kurapika everyone was talking about. It would have been better to kill the three boys and escape but she couldn't push herself to see life escaping Gon and Killua's eyes. They were kids and they didn't hurt her in any way yet... and the way their eyes shone, specially Gon's ones.
And so, she waited until a blonde boy stormed into the room in a rush.
What was even happening? Who was he? These question made her head fuzzy from all the thinking.
"You have scarlet eyes, don't you?" the boy approached her.
"And what if I do?" Lewis coldly looked at Kurapika.
Gon pointed out at Killua how the temperature lowered in the room.
"Show me your eyes" Kurapika said with a commanding tone.
"Don't play with fire, boy, or you'll get burnt"
Leorio interrupted the two of them: "he's a Kurta too don't worry!"
Kurapika scolded Leorio with an angry look just before realizing what he meant.
"Another... survivor?" he looked at Lewis "no it isn't possible..."
The two of them were shocked and couldn't even process the deed. They weren't alone?
"Let me use the Dowsing Chain on her, so I can state that it's the truth and not a mischevious trick.
Still shocked and confused, all of them made sure about the truth: Lewis was in fact a Kurta.
How will this twisted story reach its end? Lewis will decide to help Kurapika retrieve their clan's eyes. Will their opposite lifestyles and dreams go well together? Will Lewis succed to reach the "better version of her soul" and help Kurapika do so? Or maybe they'll both drown in the abyss of loneliness and self sacrifice?

~~~~~~~
Learning About Y/n
1. She was created as a 12 year old first, til I decided to age her down into a child since I wanted to create a child reader book and her personality was perfect for it
2. Foxy was previously a polar bear
3. Y/n's nen was gonna be an enhancer, but I changed it for plot reasons (hehe)
4. She was gonna appear in a different one of my HXH books (Sweet Bunny) instead of Teki
5. She doesn't actually have a real name lol, I just call her Little Fox or Lil Sis
6. For people who are curious, Y/n is bisexual- (this is a joke BTW she isn't old enough to date and plus all of her lovers would be ded)
7. Her previous backstory was that Hisoka had killed her family and took her because of her nen, but this changed and I'm not gonna reveal the story behind Y/n...yet.
8. Y/n is actually planned to adopted 2-3 more animals in her journey, but has a possibility of changing (hint- one of these animals have been mentioned above)
9. This is already known, but the story was gonna end on the chapter 'Bai Bai!' and plus a chapter that goes into the future when Y/n is older.
10. Y/n was Kalluto's first friend :3
~~
Headpat section! (Author-Chan/Skypie is on break! Y/n is taking over!)
Y/n was standing on stage with a microphone in hand, Mr Oinks and Foxy were with her on stage as she held flash cards.
"Hewo everyone!" Y/n smiled at the audience. "I'm here as Sky-Neesan is on her break! She hopes you like the book. And that she can provide you with a chapter once a week and she is sowwy if she can't do that." Y/n was saying, without looking at the flashcards that she was handed, so what she is saying could be true or not.
"Mr Oinks and Foxy and Me wanna say that you need a headpat, give everyone a headpat. The first person you see after this, give dem a headpat! Bai Bai!"
Y/n was about to leave stage when a paper plane hit her head, Y/n picked it up and read it.
"Oh, well Skypie is going to bed, We might as well start with a small mini spoiler for season 2 of Onii-chan!"
Sneak peak 1
Y/n hummed to herself as she skipped over to the mini arena that was on the bottom floor of Heaven's Arena. She stood in the middle with some other child, who was trying to reach the top, He had black hair, and his hair was covering one of his eyes that were bright vibrate Green, in the back it seemed to be a few people were cheering on him, teenagers, guessing they forced the Child to do this.
The kid stood ready, shaking slightly from fear, but he still seemed confident in beating her, he came close to the female. As he tried to kick the small 5 year old down, She stepped out the way and instantly was behind the kid, she used her finger and flicked the back of his head.
"Flick!" She said softly to the male as he was flicked across the room and into the wall, making a dent into it. The audience of participants either pitied the boy or stared shocked at the female, who was thinking to herself. 'I didn't even use my nen that much...aww man I wanted to show off to Hiso-chan and get headpats...'
"Oh Y/n, you were here before, last year correct?" The small girl looked at the referee and nodded her head slightly, she went here with Illumi and Hisoka before.
"You should head up to the 200th floor, good luck kid."
"Thank you Mr Referee!"
~~~~
Y/n ended the clip and smiled at the audience. "Hope you liked it! Skypie is waking up now! Hope you will enjoy season 2, and remember to give everyone headpats...ALSO Bombfetti has the properties of Bombs and Confetti! Bai Bai!" Y/n ran off stage with Foxy and Mr Oinks following her.
(Skypie has returned from her sleep and will continue writing)
Scenarios
Y/n sat in her room, she had been going on her own mini adventure for a few days.
She managed to get a treasure chest from finding it in an abandoned cave on the beach. She started to head out when She was starting to be pulled away.
She tried to stop it, using Gyo she noticed the familar Pink aura that was attached to her back
"Hello Y/n~" A familiar voice made Y/n look up and smile
"Hai Onii-Chan!"
---
Y/n was standing with Hisoka, Gon and Killua as they were all outside.
It started to rain. Y/n-Chan shivered and tried using her hand as an umbrella, since Fox didn't like getting wet and would be mad at her for the next week
As she tried to stop the rain with her Hand, Gon picked her up and used his Jacket to cover their heads so they wouldn't get wet
"Thank you OniiChan!" She smiles at Gon

A Hunter’s Prey: Trust and Clowns
The week was long and challenging. Nen had become a huge undertaking. Part of me wished that I wouldn’t have opened the proverbial Pandora’s Box; yet, more of me wanted to continue to learn this power. It was a beautiful array of strength that made me feel as though life was burned deep within me.
I hadn’t meditated this deeply before. My focus had always been on gaining power and transforming it into aura. I found that anger and malice really did help with the training. Each day, my anger at Illumi grew. He would wake me up early by an annoying alarm clock that his brother, Milluki, made.
Illumi didn’t allow me to go to bed until I dropped from exhaustion. Every day became a promise of gaining strength and staying vigilant. It had been five days from the start of our training. The only solace in this was that Illumi refused to sleep in the bed when I was in it. He would sleep anywhere else in the room. I didn’t know if it was for my comfort or because he didn’t want to be around me. I’ll take what I can get either way.
“Stop,” said Illumi. At his word, my body fell to the ground once again. My knees were bloodied and sore due to the constant strain of body weight. Sweat dripped around my face. It would sting my eyes. We had been at this for all morning at this point. “You’re only at twenty-five minutes. Don’t you want to see your friend?”
“Don’t you want to shut up,” I growled while standing back to my feet. “I’ve been at this for so long. I’m tired, hungry, and thoroughly pissed off. Why don’t you be a good husband and actually treat me kindly.”
Illumi cocked his head while he held the stopwatch in his hand. “You’ll never be able to meet your friend if I were to treat you kindly.”
My blood started to boil as I rose from my seated position. At that moment, I saw it. The pin that was headed for my face. I had a split second to dodge the attack before it went into an opened eye or forehead. The notice was all that it took for me to move. It barely scraped by nose when it stuck into the wall. The needle was so fast that it spun like a bullet. Once it landed in the wall, it stuck in a few inches. The ricochet made a bowling ball sized hole that expanded far beyond that in cracks.
“What the fuck?” I said. “Are you trying to kill me?”
“You passed!” Illumi seemed delighted. A true smile that reached his eyes.
My breathing was finally catching up to my thoughts. It came out in quick succession. “Y-you tried to kill me. You didn’t try to miss.”
“I only did it when I thought you could pass.”
“What if I didn’t?”
“Then I’d have quite a mess to clean up.”
My anger boiled deep within me. After everything, Illumi almost killed me by technicality. “I can’t stand you,” I growl. I could feel my aura gaining strength. “You almost killed me. After every moment I begged you to kill me and you almost killed me. Is this what it's going to be like to be with you? If so, then I won’t move next time.”
Illumi’s smile faded while he finally walked toward me. His blank face gave away only a few emotions at a time. I could tell when he was confused from the many times that he would stare at me while I was questioning him. This one was different. His eyes still held the illusion of confusion yet there was some other emotion. I couldn’t pick up on it as it was so different. It was the emotion one would see when watching a flower slowly fade into nothingness. It might've been hurt.
I took a few deep breaths to calm myself. “I didn’t mean to hurt you,” Illumi said.  “I needed to know that you could escape an attack if we were to go outside. You’ll only need to escape and I’ll be there to protect you.”
“What if you’re not there?” I ask.
“That won’t happen.”
I nod my head slowly. I doubted that Illumi would keep me under lock and key now that I’ve learned Nen; however, he has done it before.
“We have one more thing to learn before you can meet your friend tomorrow,” said Illumi while walking over to the water station by the actual gym equipment. He brought the stand close to me. It was small. I was going to reach for the cup to take a sip of water but he sacked my hands. My cry of pain meant nothing to him. Neither did the pout on my lips.
Illumi poured the cup of water all the way to the brim. It was almost overflowing with water. After filling the cup, he placed a small leaf so that it rested on the surface of the water. “This is called water divination.”
Illumi took my hands in his. “You place your hands like this.” He moved them so that my hands were to the right and left of the cup. “Focus your aura into the cup.” Illumi let go of my hands. “We will figure out where you fall with your aura.”
I nodded my head and focused my aura into the one spot. It took a lot more control than what it took to produce aura all around. I focused everything that I had into the glass. What was I waiting on? Nothing seemed to change even though I was doing what he asked.
“Does this mean that I don’t have any aura?” I asked while letting it fall.
Illumi let out a sigh of annoyance while he placed a finger in the cup and then to his lips. “Damn.”
“Is that bad?”
“No. It just means you're a Transmuter.”
“You make it seem bad.”
“I promise it is not. I’m just frustrated that you’re that type. I was hoping you’d be a manipulator like myself,” he said while taking the leaf out of the water. “We’ll pick up training later. We have an airship to catch or we’ll be late for your meeting with Machi.”
Illumi handed me the book that I had only found less than a week ago. “This should give you reading material for the journey. Read the chapter on Transmuters. I have work to do while traveling.”
---------------------------------------------
It was fitting for Machi to pick a mall as the meeting location. We’d come up with a time and a place as I was flying. The trip took a day so there was plenty of time to discuss when and where to meet. I couldn’t say much more as Illumi had instructed me that anymore information would be an immediate turn around.
I was standing by a pole inside one of the biggest malls in York New City. I was so close to my apartment that I could taste the rust-filled water or smell the bread that my upstairs neighbor always seemed to be making.
“Hey stranger,” said the familiar female voice. I was so lost in thought that I almost didn’t hear it. I turned to see the typical pink haired friend. Her face brought tears to the corner of my eyes.
“What’s up, bitch?” I replied back while giving her a hug. “It’s been way too long since we’ve hung out.”
“That is by no fault of me,” she replied while giving me a polite hug back. “What have you been doing? Business was that busy that you couldn’t send me a text within three weeks.”
“I know,” I sighed while finally letting go. “There’s much to discuss. But I do say that some of my clothes go lost in transit and I need something new to wear.”
Machi looked around with a puzzled look on her face. For a moment, I thought I was caught in a lie or I had let something slip. As much as I hated lying to her, I had to protect her from Illumi. I doubt he would allow me to see her if she knew everything about what had happened. “Yeah, lets go,” Machi said while still looking around; yet, she still let me lead her away from the entrance to the mall and to another store.
-------------------------------------
Illumi knew that he needed backup even before he landed on the ground. He felt something was off with this situation. Machi was too powerful for her own good. While he didn’t have any friends, he did have someone who owes him a few favors.
Hisoka was hard to get ahold of. If he was not fighting, he would be off stalking his next prey. Illumi knew this mission was way below Hisoka’s normal interest so he had to sweeten the deal. One mention of Chrollo later, Hisoka was at the mall, watching over Y/N.
“How does watching girls shop have anything to do with my next prey?” asked the clown man.
“We do not want Machi to recruit any more members to the troupe,” Illumi lied. “You have left and they have to refill that space.”
“You think Machi would choose to recruit someone so weak?” Hisoka always had a snip of sarcasm to everything he said. This one was even more cruel than others. Illumi knew that Y/N was weak but he didn;t have to say anything.
Illumi could feel the bloodlust rising in his aura. How dare he talk about my wife with such absent-minded flippantness? He knew nothing about her yet he judges by talent alone. He’s an insolent fool with a one track mind.
“I can feel your bloodlust from here,” Hisoka said as he watched the girls head into another store. “What makes this girl so special to you? I know you didn’t call me here for Chrollo. As upset as I am, I do find it amusing that you’ve become so flustered over a girl.”
“Shut up,” said Illumi. He sighed when he realized it was pointless to lie anymore. If Hisoka was to leave, then he would’ve about an hour ago. “Fine. She is to be my future spouse. I don’t want her messing with the Phantom Troupe but she’d made friends with number 3. I can’t have them looking for her. Kalluto has already told me that Machi brought it up to Nobonaga and Feitan that her friend was missing.”
Hisoka laughed a hardy laugh. “You? Marrying anyone is hilarious. Why would anyone pick you to marry? Don’t tell me you forced this poor girl into it?”
“Forced is a strong word,” Illumi states while picking up his phone. He was expecting that it was Y/N calling to say that she had enough fun and wanted to go back with him. Instead, it was a call from his father. Killua had removed the pin and he was to report to Dolio City once again.
“Hisoka, I need you to watch Y/N until I can get back to this location,” said Illumi as he sent a message to Hisoka’s phone. “You are to take her to her apartment and nowhere else. Do anything to her and I will rip every organ out of your body and feed them to Milluki myself.”
“Okay, okay,” said Hisoka. While he looked at his phone. On it was the address of Y/N’s apartment. “I won’t kill her even though she’s not even remotely powerful enough to face me.”
Illumi’s bloodlust fueled up again. He was stuck with the choice between doing his duty or staying to protect his wife from any harm. If he hadn’t promised his father when he was a child to watch out for Killua, he would have stayed. He was enjoying watching her in your natural habitat. It was a beautiful reminder as to why he chose her.
------------------------------------------------------
I decided to take a break from shopping to grab a quick bite to eat and check my phone. There was only 1 new message. It was from Illumi. I almost groaned because I forgot about everything that had happened the past month. I found myself wrapped up in conversation with Machi that I forgot about my torture that I’d endured. It was like the world made sense again.
The message was simple. It read: ‘I have to go. My friend will take care of you until I return. Go to your apartment once done.’ Short, simple, and to the point.
I could tell that Machi picked up on my change in tone. “What’s wrong?” she asked.
“Oh nothing. Just some boy troubles from who I met at the bar last month. He refuses to leave me alone.” While I did lie, I did tell the truth. A messed up version of the truth but the truth.
“Is that the real reason you’ve been gone for so long?” joked Machi. “You didn’t get hitched or something while on your trip right?”
“No. Of course not!” My voice came out too fast. It wasn’t normal. Instead of reminding the situation, I found myself stuffing my face with food so that I couldn’t talk.
Machi started to look around the food court again. She did this constantly and it was starting to become a habit. “Have you been noticing the person following us?” she asked all of a sudden.
“There’s a person following us?” I asked while trying to sound confused. I knew exactly who was following us or a relative understanding of who it was.
Machi decided to get up quickly and walk to the edge of the food court. She ripped down the newspaper of a strange looking man. It was almost impossible to not miss him. He wore a white powdered face. His hair was gelled far back than a normal person’s hair. The red in his hair made it seem like it was on fire. His clothing was a combination of flashy white and pink. All together, it was hard to miss. “Hisoka, why are you following us?”

“Doesn’t that make me worse than these guys?”
“No. You guys are just different. I like you. But, I really hate these guys.”
“That’s not rational.”
“That’s right. It’s not. It’s about emotions.”
at first, when killua asked, “what about me? even if i told you that i’ve killed loads more than these guys?” my immediate reaction was, of course he’d still help you, killua! you’re killua! but as killua openly reflects aloud about his past as an assassin, it sinks in just how cruel and traumatizing his early life must have been. he lived and breathed the art of killing. it was a lifestyle, and pretty much his entire identity was built upon being an assassin from a family of assassins. it’s easy to forget that just a few months ago, he was an incredibly lost and fragile boy grasping for some semblance of self, struggling to let go of his killer ‘instincts’ because without them, he wouldn’t know what his identity was.
not to say that killua has completed his journey to self-discovery (far from it), but this exchange he has with gorain reveals to us how much he’s grown. he isn’t exactly proud of his past, but he isn’t trying to erase it, either. killua has come to terms with his past. he has accepted who he was back then, and knows it will always be a part of him, yet he also knows that it will not define his present and future. thinking about the conflicted boy from the hunter exam will forever hurt my heart...remember what he told illumi during the final stage?
now, killua is able to talk openly about the ‘dark side’ of himself, and he knows that there are people who won’t accept him for who he is, but also that there will be people who truly will accept him. he has found his inner strength, the strength to decide for himself what he thinks is right, the strength to unabashedly stand up for his own set of morals.

Hi! What are your favorite siblings' relationships in stories?
WHY HI FRIEND
So in general I think sibling relationships offer incredibly rich potential to a story, but are somewhat underutilized? At least in comparison to other relationships. Or maybe that’s just the kinds of stories I’m drawn to.
Mo Dao Zu Shi: Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian
Tumblr media
Honorary shout-outs to the other siblings in this story, namely Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji and Jiang Yanli’s relationship with both Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian. Sorry Nies ILY but too much tragedy. But I think Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng’s exceedingly complex relationship is one of the best in the novel, and just as thematically rich as Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji’s relationship. I’ve written quite a few metas about the two of them, but overall they’re a great portrayal of brothers who adore each other but whose worst instincts and inability to communicate just how much the other means to them drives them apart... but then they get a second chance. I also interpreted the ending as them slowly moving towards communicating better and reconciling; hence, I loved it.
Tumblr media
Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment: Rodion Raskolnikov and Dunya Raskolnikova
Yes I’m choosing these ones over The Brothers Karamazov mostly because I’m in perpetual mourning for Smerdyakov. I love them. I love them lots. Dunya truly loves Raskolnikov and is about to see through him, to defend herself, and to be kind to Sonia (her foil). What could come across as patriarchal doesn’t because Dunya is just as protective of her brother as he is of her, railing against anyone who speaks ill of him, and much like Rodion is able to see her flaws for what they are (she’s too self-sacrificial), is still able to see her brother’s flaws rather than live in denial of them (unlike their mother). It’s noteworthy that it is Dunya who defeats Svidraigalov, who represents a dark path towards spiraling and destruction, for Rodion. Her steadfast commitment to and honest appraisal of her brother, are, much like Razumihin’s and Sonia’s, key towards Rodion deciding to pursue redemption.
Hunter x Hunter: Illumi, Milluki, Killua, Alluka, and Kalluto Zoldyck
Tumblr media
I’ve written some metas on these brats, too. But I love all five of them and their relationships, even though many of them are severely dysfunctional. They all foil each other in excellent, thematic ways, and all their best traits are the ones their parents use to manipulate them against each other in the guise of protecting each other.
Frozen: Anna & Elsa
Tumblr media
I wrote a bit about them here, but I actually think the first Frozen (haven’t seen the second) is a wonderful portrayal of two sisters and reconciliation in a relationship. It also very well captures the experience of having a sibling struggling with mental illness you can’t help with--and the feeling of having a mental illness a sibling can’t help you with.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower: Sam and Patrick
Tumblr media
They’re technically stepsiblings, but I love how they take care of each other. They’re both important to Charlie’s journey of healing.
Harry Potter: The Weasley Siblings
Tumblr media
They all have distinct personalities and relationships with each other. Even if I have an issue with fed and George being basically clones of each other, their presence in the story is a delight. Also, I’m never forgiving the movies for omitting Percy, since I really liked his prodigal son subplot.
Monster: Nina/Anna and Johan
Your recent meta articulates why. But despite the twin stuff, it’s exceedingly well done, and they are both such complex characters that their relationship, from its beginning to the end, get me every time.
2ha: Mo Ran and Xue Meng
Yes, actually. I think their brotherly/cousinly relationship is beautiful and hopeful, but it’s hard to articulate exactly why without major spoilers. Let’s just say I enjoyed how they were both foils--neither were who they even thought they themselves were--and they didn’t always like each other, but they learned to love each other.
To Kill a Mockingbird: Jem and Scout
Let’s add another literature reference here. As problematic as some parts of the novel are, I love their relationship. It captures siblings in all of their complexity, how they get along and don’t, and is innocent yet realistic.
Tales of Arcadia: Aja and Krel
Tumblr media
They have complimentary arcs that allow them both to walk their separate ways in the end and be closer for it, which I found beautiful. They make opposite choices, but at the core of each of their arcs is the desire to find out who they are and what their place is in the world.

kURAPIKA
Hi Omo, thank you so much for asking!! ♥♥
Tumblr media
send me a character and i’ll list:
favorite thing about them :
His charisma I guess ? gkjg there’s something about him that screams natural strength and elegance and beauty. But he’s also a dork, which makes him well balanced. If he was a character that only appeard dark and angry and sad 100% of the time because of his past, I don’t think I would have loved him as much ? But instead, he’s soft and laughing around his friends, he makes jokes, he sasses around. There’s too many things I love about Kurapika, but I guess that, yeah, my favorite thing about him is his personality. Baby him was curious about the world and easily excited, he didn’t lose this part of him completely (at least… not yet ;;;
least favorite thing about them :
I understand that revenge is important to him, but he’s literally killing himself over it and just… Kurapika could you NOT. One thing Im especially afraid of, is that he’s going to lose his kind nature because of this. I genuinely hope this won’t happen, because if it does, if he becomes what he used to hate the most, I’ll be heartbroken. I just want him to be at peace with himself and his past, but it’s so unlikely and sighs It’s hard to see him continuing on this path, it physically hurts. A lot.
favorite line :
 “Pairo… My journey may finally begin. But… Where would I go… ? There is no home for me to return to… … And nobody to welcome me back. I have nothing left.” so dramatic
brOTP : Leorio, Gon, Killua (the squad lghgk), Senritsu
OTP : Gee, I wonder lol
nOTP : none really. Can’t say I like K/urokura because it doesnt make sense to me, it implies OOCness, and nothing good can come of such a ship while the only thing I want is for Kurapika to be happy, but it’s not a “NOTP” either. I don’t really have NOTPs. I either ship or I don’t lol
random headcanon :
I always loved the “switch to his mother tongue under some circumstances” headcanon. It’s nice. I wished it was a canon thing and that Kurapika would speak Kurtish from time to time. Not often, because when he does, it slips accidentaly, involuntarily (at least that’s what I like to imagine).
It’s much more negative, but… I also hc that he’s actually forgetting the language… Like when you don’t practice, you don’t forget everything, but you forget anyway… It’s a much more negative hc, and Im sorry about it, but that’s my hc anyway ;;
Completely different headcanon, but : I also love how… “to the point” he is.  Like, he doesn’t beat around the bush, he says things so “matter of factly”, and I have this hc that he’s like that when it comes to love as well. He’s not shy about it, and he doesn”t quite understands that for most people it’s… pretty much a whole ritual of subtext and implying things, or that people can be shy and/or socially awkward about it, which makes him confused or missing the “read between the lines” parts. He’s got a very rational approach about things and love is no exception. (doesn’t mean he can’t and/or doesn’t like to flirt. He flirts. Oh he does.)
unpopular opinion :
After YorkShin Arc, I see so many people who really do seem to believe Kurapika has become so much colder and heartless, torturing, manipulating and killing just so he can get the eyes back… Kurapika does say that he lost many parts of him along the way, true, but I don’t think that means he’s become a cold “monster”.
I also think he’s been away from loved ones for too long, so such things as “joy”, “laughing” , “smiling”, “being genuine around others”, “being reminded he’s not as bad as he might start think he is because he’s around fucked up people so much” have possibliy left his life, and he probably forgot about what it feels like…
When I see him, even in the current arc, I still find him soft and kind hearted, his smiles are genuine. Kurapika doesn’t like to hurt others and he doesn’t like to kill and I still believe it’s true. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but it’s what I believe anyway ;;
Another opinion (now I don’t quite know if it’s unpopular or not, and it’s regarding Leopika) but I often see, in fanfics, Kurapika being very cold to Leorio after YorkShin, or them brawling a lot, but from what I remember in the manga (maybe selective memory idk =“D), Kurapika always, always softens around Leorio. He doesn’t try to pick a fight, he doesn’t try to say hurtful things. Yes he did isolate himself from his friends, for tons of different valid reasons, but that doesn’t mean he sunddenly is an asshole to them, and especially not to Leorio.
A little last unpopular one and then I stop flhkj But I don’t believe Kurapika has a death wish. I think deep down he wants to live, or he wants a reason to, but it’s buried deep under pain and rage, yet to be done grieving, and some duties he put onto himself that were too heavy for his shoulders.
song i associate with them :
I have a few, but mostly these two :
Mercy, by Hurts
and Spider Legs, by Blueneck
favorite picture of them :
kghjgh how can I pick ONE ? He’s…. literally so pretty all the time. Togashi has no mercy lgkhj
OKay maybe this one because… Leopika
Tumblr media
it’s my icon for a reason

Send me a character: killua, canary, kikyo, morel, mito
Killua:
First impressions: I love him, could he possibly become a Fave? His emotional arc is certainly the most nuanced and interesting. (when I joined the fandom I kinda rolled my eyes a lot at his stans and got distant from him as a character because even then the fandom was oversaturated with Killua it was hard to escape the fawning).
Impressions now: I love him a lot more than I did before, he’s the single most developed character in the whole series and I understand why he’s the fave of so many.
Story idea: Gon becomes a missing Hunter and they all haven’t heard from him in years so Killua contacts Leorio and Kurapika and they all journey together to find him.
Favorite moment: “I could go like this all night.”
Favorite relationship: with Gon.
Unpopular opinion: I actually do not at all like his “innate goodness” as a reason for ANYTHING. It does not make sense, and it robs him of a chance to actually question his upbringing in any tangible way. Instead it’s all handwaved with “he’s always been a good kid, in contrast to his evil brothers” like??? huh??
Headcanon: he becomes a crime Hunter and that is based on how much I like crime Hunter Killua in PA. Also I like to imagine he’ll specialize in cases involving poison and pesters Gel, a poison Hunter, to take him in as a student. PLEASE.
(Canary was answered here)
Kikyo:
First impressions: Hell I love her design so much. It’s so intriguing. When are we gonna see how cool her abilities are?
Impressions now: Ah, Togashi, are you gonna do something with her or like, nah? She just yells and cries? Ah, okay, I see.
Story idea: a battle with Bisky over a rare gemstone that both of them want. Bisky wins, but really, Kikyo was in it for the challenge.
Favorite moment: the moment of her introduction. In the manga specifically she comes off as so alien and menacing and I loved it.
Favorite relationship: with Silva, and it would have been with Illumi if Togashi bothered, but eh.
Unpopular opinion: we can like her and keep her as a horrible person. It’s alright. She doesn’t need redemption to become a good character worth exploring.
Headcanon: she clawed her way out of the gutters and killed dozens of people to get to where she is right now. No Zoldyck really ever approved of her as a spouse for Silva, but she proved herself as worthy.
Morel:
First impressions: I like his design and his character. Also wow, a notably brown-skinned man who isn’t a villain or antagonist (cough tonpa cough).
Impressions now: dilf.
Story idea: the one he’s involved with in WiS :3.
Favorite moment: the first time he releases Deep Purple. It’s such a cool ability.
Favorite relationship: with his students.
Unpopular opinion: none.
Headcanon: he was a sailor.
Mito:
First impression: nice mom, I like her.
Impressions now: this woman has Issues.
Story idea: as with the other ladies in the other ask, she’s in a fic titled Galactic Gals where she has finally left Whale Island and is traveling with Canary and end up landing a job as tourist bodyguards.
Favorite moment: in the flashback where she has climbed inside this high godforsaken cave like how the fuck did she do it holy shit she was like what, three years old?? Ging saves her, yeah, but she managed to get there in the first place and god knows how.
Favorite relationship: with Gon and Ging, because her main issues are with them and she can only be liberated from her guilt and internalized sexism when she faces her issues with them.
Unpopular opinion: she is only honest with Gon when she has no other option but to be. She consistently hides things from him and only confesses when he’s already known about these things. She’s also a high-functioning alcoholic with latent resentments she refuses to admit to herself and this isn’t much an opinion as it is an actual canon thing.
Headcanon: she leaves Whale Island.

How do you think the narrative handled Ging's character? I still can't get over the fact that he just believed Gon could overcome every challenge and survive with his friends' help. He didn't seem to care about his mental health. Seems like a bad shounen cliche. Will Togashi adress it at some point, I mean, deconstructing Ging like he did with Gon (who always got what he wanted because of his determination and optimism untill chimera ant arc) or maybe I just don't understand his character?
Hello anon! Sorry if I took a while!
So my simplest answer to your question on how the narrative handled Ging is: I think Togashi has just begun with him and so it is difficult to say how he will be used and explored in the future.
As a matter of fact the Election arc where Ging appeared for the first time is basically a short arc which serves both as a closure to the first part of the manga with Gon and Killua separating and each one ending a significant part of their arc:
Tumblr media
And as an introduction arc to new characters like the Zodiacs who will be at the centre of future arcs. Among these characters Ging and Pariston in particular are set up as important and will probably get arcs of their own.
In short, right now trying to predict where Ging’s character will go or to give a final judgement on him would be equivalent to basically doing the same with Gon based on the first three volumes of the manga.
What’s more, I think that thoughts on Ging should be divided into two categories.
a) Thoughts on him as a central part of Gon’s arc since he has been Gon’s main motivation up until they met.
b) Thoughts on him as a character with his own arc and personal involvement into the main plot.
So I’ll try to give you some thoughts on him by foiling him with two other characters: Silva Zoldyck and Gon himself. In particular the first will help me analyze him as Gon’s father, while comparing him to Gon will help me trying to define him better as his own character.
1) Silva and Ging
Silva and Ging are the fathers of our two main characters and Gon and Killua foil each other in how they relate to their families.
Gon wants to become a hunter like his father, while Killua doesn’t want to become an assassin like his. These opposite attitudes are due to the different treatment they received from their parent:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gon and Killua’s problems with their fathers are opposite.
Gon has been left behind.
Killua has been controlled.
These opposite style of parenting are at the root of Gon and Killua’s opposite flaws.
Because of Silva (and Illumi)’s teachings KIllua is prone to give up too easily, to be too prudent and to lack willingness:
Tumblr media
On the other hand because of Ging’s challenge Gon feels motivated to put himself into dangerous situations:
Tumblr media
He also feels pressured in proving himself as his fight with Razor shows:
Tumblr media
What’s interesting is that both fathers seem to have realized at one point that the traits they have tried to make Gon and Killua develop have become too preponderant and have ended up damaging the two children too much.
This is what Milluki and Zeno say about Killua:
Tumblr media
Let’s leave Milluki’s comment about Killua having friends out and let’s concentrate on the fact that he implies that Killua is mentally weak to which Zeno agrees with. This description is coherent with Killua’s tendency to be unable to handle psychological pressure and to run away:
Tumblr media
However, he developed this tendency because he has been taught so as Silva’s speech above and Illumi’s needle demonstrate.
On the other hand let’s look at what Gon tells Ging during his breakdown when he meets his father for the first time:
Tumblr media
Here Gon is expressing all his guilt over what happened to Kite. He considers himself the one responsible for Kite’s metamorphosis because he has internalized that he has to be strong and he did so because Ging put in front of him a series of challenges (the hunter exam, Greed Island and so on) which demanded it from Gon. The message Ging delivered to Gon wasn’t to be happy and to have fun, but to be strong and that he had to earn the right to meet Ging. This led Gon to basically develop an irrealistic vision of what he should be able to do.
Ging seems to have realized it to an extent and tells Gon this:
Tumblr media
In this speech Ging stresses how what happened to Kite wasn’t Gon’s fault, but at the same time he still gives a lot of importance to one’s personal strength and invites Gon to become stronger once again. As you noticed this is a shonen cliche and it is the shonen cliche which was partly deconstructed in the Chimera Ant Arc: the idea that being strong matters.
Ging’s interest in Gon’s strength is once again hinted here:
Tumblr media
He accepted to meet Gon, but he still set up a trial for him before their meeting. This trial is very minor considering Gon’s abilities and everything he has been through, but it’s still there.
That said, we should also consider that Ging was the one who told Gon this:
Tumblr media
Basically he told Gon to stop and to try to figure out for himself what he wants from his life. This is not a bad advice and is probably what Gon needs to do now. Ging even underlines how Gon not being able to use nen is actually not too much of a high price to pay considering he got to basically come back to life. This is a different approach from the one he had shown up until that moment which emphasized the necessity for Gon to be strong.
So, do I think Ging has suddenly become a better parent after seeing how much Gon suffered because of his irrational challenges?
Not at all. His flaws at parenting are probably still there and his foiling with Silva helps us shading light on them:
Tumblr media
As a matter of fact Silva too, like Ging, showed a strange change in his behaviour as a parent when he let Killua leave home. He told Killua he was free to do as he wanted and he even made him promise not to betray his friends. This is strange considering the fact that both Milluki and Illumi have commented multiple times that friends are unimportant. Why did Silva do it then?
He explains it immediately later: Silva let Killua go because he thinks this is the best way to nurture him as the next heir of the family. My personal theory is that he realized Killua’s tendency to run away and to change his mind continuously may go in the way of him inheriting the family business. It’s true the heir should give his life to the family, but it’s also true he can’t be completely subdued to one of his siblings like the Hunter Exam proved Killua to be to Illumi. In short, I think Silva’s intentions are to have Killua man up and to develop his personality more by using the friendships Killua forged as motivators. So we have a parenting choice that might make sense and might also have positive consequences (as we have seen it had for Killua’s development), but it is a choice which absolutely doesn’t change the fact that Silva is a horrible father:
Tumblr media
Just after Silva’s heartwarming chat with Killua we are given evidence that he still considers Killua as an extension of himself. Let’s underline the fact that Ging says the same line here:
Tumblr media
So, it makes sense to assume that, if Silva considers Killua an extension of himself, so does Ging with Gon. It’s just that in Silva’s case we know what he wants from Killua (him inheriting the family business), while in Ging’s case it’s possible he doesn’t want anything in particular from Gon if not thrill and entertainment:
Tumblr media
Ging said so himself multiple times: he doesn’t care about the result, but he wants an enjoyable journey. It’s probable he left behind a series of hints Gon was free to follow or not. If he had followed them (as he did), Ging would have had fun trying to foresee his development, if he hadn’t… then never mind:
Tumblr media
In short while Silva needs Killua to follow a specific path, Ging doesn’t care what Gon does. They are two extremes and they are both bad.
That said, in the interactions he had with Gon Ging was decent and gave him useful advice, but at the same time you can see how in his speeches there is still a lot of focus on strength and on one’s worth based on one’s talents. He is also never the one to start an interaction with Gon. Gon is always the one running after him or calling him.
Another point of comparison between Ging and Silva is their behaviour during the Election Arc. As a matter of fact both haven’t had an active role in trying to influence their children’s fates in that arc, but both have been hinted to actually know more than what they let on and to have observed their children pretty closely.
At first sight it may seem that Killua’s main enemy in his family is Illumi and Illumi is the character he has always clashed with since the beginning. However, this arc makes clear that, despite not having acted in any particular way, Silva is always there observing his children and monitoring them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Killua assumes that his father simply wants to monitor Alluka and to find a way to control her, while Illumi wants to kill her. However, his phone call with Illumi shows how Illumi’s own plan to kill Alluka could come to be only because Silva set the terrain for it by declaring Alluka not a part of the family. If Silva had made clear that, despite being despicable, Alluka was to be considered a family member Illumi would have probably given up the idea of killing her. This is a minor detail, but it may suggest that Silva will be a more proactive antagonist in the future.
On the other hand Ging, despite showing absolutely no intention to act to save Gon, is implied to have known since the beginning how things would have turned out:
Tumblr media
Pariston says as much. He realized Ging was sure Gon would have been saved and based his whole strategy to win the election on this assumption. At the same time I don’t believe Ging was sure Gon would have been saved because of a generic power of friendship trope. I actually believe Ging knew something about the Zoldycks and Nanika:
Tumblr media
As a matter of fact when Ging feels Nanika’s aura he is implied to know that in that moment Gon is being restored. After all it’s by observing his reaction that Pariston becomes convinced of this as well. Considering Ging has been preparing for an expediction to the Dark Continent for some time now, I wouldn’t be surprised if he managed to discover about Nanika and the Zoldycks. Then, after knowing that Gon’s best friend happened to be Killua Zoldyck, it wouldn’t have been difficult for Ging to do the math and to deduce how things would have turned out in the end. Mind it, Ging’s assumption was probably nothing more than a bet. He treated Gon’s life as the election. He was sure that Gon would have been saved in the end, but he was also sure things would have developed in a certain way during the election and he was proven wrong when Pariston gave up his position immediately after winning.
So both Silva and Ging are flawed fathers. Yet, it’s true that the framing around them is different. When Silva speaks of Killua as his son he is framed as a villain, while when Ging says the same thing abt Gon he is filtered positively thanks to Razor’s flashback. So how should we read this difference? It’s too soon to say, but as you noticed in your ask Gon’s arc has been one which has been strongly deconstructed. Killua’s on the other hand has been clearer since the beginning. Killua’s flaw has been presented as a flaw pretty openly since the hunter exam, while Gon’s has been treated as a merit in the beginning and has been deconstructed later on. It has been made clear since the beginning that Killua’s family was a terrible one and that his arc was about breaking free from them. Gon’s journey to find his father on the other hand has been framed positively by the narrative and has been deconstructed partly later on with Gon finding Ging in the least climatic way possible and with Gon realizing he doesn’t even care that much about staying with Ging in the first place.
So I wouldn’t be surprised if by the end we were to discover that both Killua and Gon’s final trials will be to overcome their respective fathers, but in different ways. I can easily see Silva having a more traditional villainous role in Killua’s arc, while I don’t think Ging has been set up to be an antagonist. However, I think Gon has been set up to realize he doesn’t really need any particular relationship with his father to feel validated.
Let’s consider Jairo’s character for a moment:
Tumblr media
It’s been foreshadowed he and Gon will meet each other which means that they will probably be foils.
The turning point of Jairo’s background story was to realize that his father didn’t care about him:
Tumblr media
This realization together with the neglect and the mistreatment he endured day after day is what led him to start his criminal career. It’s possible Gon too will have to accept Ging doesn’t really care about him. However, I am expecting that by then Gon will have developed enough to realize he doesn’t really need Ging because he has his own support system made of people he met along the way:
Tumblr media
2) Gon and Ging
Ging has been set up to be one of the main characters in the current arc and he has been given a goal:
Tumblr media
But this is the same goal Gon had in the beginning i.e. finding a long lost relative who is exploring the vast world:
Tumblr media
Gon faced his journey with the help of a trusted friend:
Tumblr media
Ging is about to start his with a trusted enemy:
Tumblr media
The Chimera Ant Arc deconstructed the steretype of the World Strongest Man through Netero who wasn’t able to win in a contest of strength against Meruem:
Tumblr media
In this arc we have Beyond who is supposed to embody a different kind of hunter from the one his father was. Netero was a warrior. Beyond is a bold explorer:
Tumblr media
All these elements may not lead anywhere, but they may also be hints that this time the story will partially target the figure of the explorer aka of the man ready to leave all connections behind in order to discover the world. If the story intends to do so then I wouldn’t be surprised if Ging and Beyond as representatives of this category will end up deconstructed later on. However, right now we are lacking elements. Like, is Ging’s wish to find Don reflective of his Man-Child tendencies (which he clearly has since he is sure he will never change aka never grow)?
We will hopefully get an answer soon, but for now these are the most coherent and objective thoughts I can give you about Ging’s character. He is foiled with Silva, but he is also framed far more positively than him. He has also been set up to be a protagonist and the setting up of his arc reminds me of Gon’s. I am pretty sure an important part of Gon’s arc will be to overcome his father’s shadow. I am not sure for now that being Gon’s father will be a central part of Ging’s arc or at least of a first part of it.
Thank you for the ask and I hope I was of some help!

Repentance and Reflection
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This dialogue belongs to chapter 337, when Kite was repenting everyone sins. Just by having the power to kill, the Koala ant did the same thing over and over again, without realizing what really mattered, because the reflection upon your acts hurts more than sticking to a pattern and trusting that cycle. Like, robotic mode to avoid changing, because changing is a challenge - but inevitable. Someday, you will find your heart’s missing something, always the same, after led to make the same mistakes.
I think this talks directly to Gon too, when he realizes that he would’ve ended doing the same thing if he still got his Nen. He would keep pursuing power, seeking self-validation until he feeds his heart with one “I am strong now”.  He’d be blinded by his self-worth issues, and would make a choice unfaithful with his heart - a heart that he only gives some hearing now that he’s “nenless”. Because he was unbalanced with his power and mind, focusing too much on one of them only (and we know which one), when Nen is about power and mind (Wing’s words). Just to have his power would signify to make the wrong choice and stick to the same pattern, the same journey. Leading to his self-destructiveness once again, probably, because there is always something missing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it was missing since the beginning, because he’s now acknowledging his goal’s mistakes.
It wasn’t about Ging as a family but as “the most challenging hunt” for a Hunter. It wasn’t about his own pride (pointed out Hanzo back at the Exam), but finding someone to be proud of him ‘cause he made it (I’m lazy rn to put in here now but Gon implies that is what he wants, back at the beginning, which makes sense with he being so offended when someone calls him weak). At some point, we get to see so many people complimenting his talent and strength. But this still doesn’t feed his heart - because he was the one who couldn’t see his worth.
It’s clear to me that he’s saying he might’ve made the wrong choice if he still strength-focused in order to keep pursuing that validation, because he really didn’t know what mattered the most or what he really wanted, as he had just found his goal wasn’t really to stay with Ging. He would seek power again, blindly, because there is always someone stronger than him. He would feel weak again by Ging’s side and travel along to seek that power, always knowing that “something isn’t right”, because he never gets satisfied or confident about his strength - he wouldn’t have realized his goal wasn’t exactly what he thought.  He would’ve make the same mistakes again and again, without feeding his heart.
Like, Why travel together if he doesn’t exactly want to stay with him? The fact that he’s assuming that it wouldn’t be quite right but he would’ve still decided to do it shows that he’s now experiencing loss in order to pay attention to what he really wants without being blinded or fooled by his self-worth issues and his journey to feel powerful, realizing how that choice wouldn’t make sense. Being nenless is important to reflect properly before deciding. If he gets his Nen back, the healthy path is to balance, so his power doesn’t fool him again into the wrong sources of satisfaction.
Tumblr media
Nen also reflects one’s feelings. It makes sense that he can’t use it right now, because he’s learning what he truly feels in order to build a more accurate journey for his heart, something that could only be done the way he is right now, dealing with the consequences and with the fact that are many ways to be strong (thank you Meruem you’ve said it right) - not only physically, and even if it was, there are too many ways to reach that. And then, his new learning will be balanced.
It’s probably a heavy loss for Gon, since he promised to Kite that, when the time comes, he’ll stay by his side. If Kite called him right now, he couldn’t do anything, the same if Killua needed him. But at the same time, Kite kinda opens this thinking path for Gon, after repenting his “sins”. Gon knows he didn’t make it alone. Kite says that “makes two of us”. Kite is still strong, even acknowledging he needed help, why couldn’t Gon feel the same? Having someone by your side to share your battles doesn’t make you weak. Everything it’s for Gon to reflect, and the repentance is to show that he’s gotta a long way of reflecting, he was still stuck with the thought that leaving Kite behind was the worst thing ever, even if Kite himself doesn’t think that way. The meaning he gives to “be strong” and to “be weak” are both wrong.
That’s why I think that, if he grabs the spotlight again (what I believe it will happen one day) he’ll reach greater ways to be really strong, body and mind, acknowledging his issues and understanding what he needs Remembering the ones who never left his side, those who believed in him. I always say, Togashi could troll us all and never shows Gon again but I don’t think it would make sense -  Gon needs to feed his heart. I don’t think he reached the end of his reflection process, neither Killua did. That’s why they split in an ambiguous tone. It’s just the beginning.
Like the World Tree, it just stopped to grow by not getting the essential nutrients. But at the top of that huge tree, where seemed to be the peak of everything, was a nest. The tree itself reached its peak, but made possible for those baby birds to grow. Symbolizing that, even at the top of what you think it’s the end, there is still space for growing - especially if you look to what you’ve left at the side of your road and at the corners of your heart.

Hi there! Three questions: What things do you think Gon and Killua need to work on respectively before they reunite? Do you think they are keeping in touch? And how do you hope/imagine their reunion and post reunion bond to play out?
Tumblr media
I’m going to append this other ask onto these three questions, because it links up with the third one pretty neatly!
tl;dr: This is so long I’m dying Squirtle
Actual tl;dr: Gon’s had a failed coming-of-age story arc, and is at the beginning of a new one about who he wants to be. Killua’s arc focuses on his dependence on other people’s approval, so he needs to develop an identity separate from what others need from him. I think they aren’t actively not talking to each other, and I hope Alluka knocks some sense into these ridiculous boys.
Mild warning for minor post-ending-of-the-anime manga spoilers.
Busting out the big guns right at the start, huh? I’m doing my stretches. Let’s dance.
Gon is really interesting to think about, because his ‘hero’s journey’ is… done. He had a goal, struggled to overcome insurmountable odds to meet it, did overcome them through determination and sacrifice, and returned home in the end. So now what? He’s lost his Nen, which Hunters are said to need in order to truly be Hunters, but having taken the exam he’s also a Hunter for life. He’s landed in a grey area, not quite a Hunter and not quite a civilian. And I certainly hope he doesn’t just do the same stuff over again, because that would be kind of boring.
What I want for Gon is for the narrative to explore his story as a coming-of-age arc, because while his hero’s journey has reached the end of its circle his coming-of-age story has only just hit its climactic point. These stories follow a different arc, where the protagonist starts out suffering an emotional loss that compels them to journey in search of answers; they struggle through obstacles that contribute to their maturation; and in the end, their greatest obstacle is to overcome their own perspective on the question they’re asking.
Gon starts out with a very obvious emotional loss: he learns that Ging chose to leave him behind on Whale Island. The answer he’s seeking is to the question “What is it Ging is searching for that is more important than me?” He matures both in terms of his strength (learning Nen and developing his own fighting style) and in terms of encountering/being confronted by worldviews different from his own (e.g. meeting all his friends for the former, the Troupe truly loving one another and Pitou being more than a mindless killer for the latter). He doesn’t overcome the climactic last challenge, in fact he fails rather spectacularly. He can’t let go of his own perspective on the world, and as a result he hurts both himself and his most intimate friend.
As far as I’m concerned, that’s a good thing. It’s brilliant. The series builds a stunning structure of Jenga blocks atop Gon’s black-and-white perspective that wobbles (the Troupe love each other) and has new pieces added to it through the story (the Greed Island players killing each other is an expected part of the game), but doesn’t topple until he’s faced with a truth almost impossible to carry that kicks his foundation out from under him.
It’s really hard to actually accept and believe that the people who hurt you aren’t purely malicious. I don’t want to get into real world examples all that much, but suffice to say that ‘good’ people are capable of doing evil things and people with intensely bigoted views are also fully able to feel genuine love for others. It doesn’t mean they’re secretly actually not bigoted, or their views should be discarded as superfluous to who they are. It just means they’re people. Cruel people are still fully people.
Continuing on with the anime talk…
So Gon’s tower of metaphorical Jenga blocks has fallen. The prospective climax of his coming-of-age story falters and falls into a valley. Soon after, the climax of his hero’s journey… is abruptly handed to him. He doesn’t find Ging, Ging’s just there. Neither of them are ready to meet this way, for good reason; according to a standard story structure, Ging flat-out shouldn’t be there yet. Gon’s not ready to meet him, hasn’t completely faced the challenge of finding him, hasn’t come into his own. It’s jarring, out of place. It’s doesn’t match up to the structure of a hero’s journey.
But as another obstacle in a coming-of-age story, it’s perfect. Gon has seen enough of the world and learned enough to approach the question “What did Ging leave me in favor of?” anew. And here’s Ging, able to answer it directly.
Gon’s emotional collapse at the end of the Chimera Ant arc is beautiful (narratively speaking…) because it functions as a new coming-of-age story’s beginning. He knows what it’s like to be a Hunter, has experienced its joys and agonies for himself. He can answer the question he started out with, and does form the bond with Ging he’s sought from the start. But his story doesn’t end, because he hasn’t come of age yet.
He befriends Ging… but that’s all. The validation and intimacy he chased after isn’t quite there. He doesn’t even feel much drive to stay with Ging for long, and says the only thing that could convince him to chase Ging for any longer would be being able to feel how powerful a Nen user Ging is, which Gon can no longer do. Meeting Ging doesn’t truly conclude either of Gon’s arcs, and Gon is now home again, where the hero’s journey both ends and begins. Because Gon went through his emotional crisis, he has the tools to recognize the new question before him.
We know that Ging has accomplished great things. He’s restored sprawling ruins and uncovered who knows how many historical secrets that might otherwise have been lost forever. Satotz looks up to him as an inspiration and a mysterious figure within the Hunter Association. He’s influential enough to be partially in control of the Hunter Association (until he peaces out, anyway). He also acts like an asshole to basically everybody, is hugely manipulative, and makes the two people with the closest familial ties to him chase his footsteps to prove themselves worthy of his respect.
Gon, with his new perspective, faces a new question.
“Do I want to live my life like Ging has lived his?”
That sure was long-winded, wasn’t it? Phew. It only sort of answers the question, too. Whoops. Moving on…
There’s a character trait among Aristotelian tragic heroes that if one wants to sound smart is called “Hamartia” and if one wants to be understood is called a “fatal flaw”. I’m not going to adhere exactly to the fatal flaw as it works in Aristotelian plays, but suffice to say that a fatal flaw is a trait the hero possesses that leads them to their own downfall. For example, Gon’s black-and-white worldview is a fatal flaw that leads him to his breakdown.
Killua’s fatal flaw is basing his own self-worth on being important to other people.
Killua never really struggles with specifically not being an assassin. He just decides to stop. The ground-in bloodlust and mechanical killing instinct that rear their heads on rare occasion seem quite firmly within his control. It’s something else that’s held over from his childhood and the way his family raised him: being used as a tool.
Writing that first bit took a bit out of me, energy-wise, so I’ll just cliff notes this one, maybe...
Killua is, shall we say, in the habit of thinking of himself as something useful to other people
Even as powerful assassins, the Zoldycks largely just do what whoever hires them tell them to do
Illumi’s needle is a direct example of this
His goals from the start have just been “Escape his family” and “Help Gon achieve his goal of meeting Ging”
His second goal has now been achieved: he helped Gon meet Ging. This is one of the reasons playing into his decision to leave, since staying would get Gon mixed up in his primary goal of escaping/getting rid of the other Zoldycks. Alluka’s... “supplanting”? That’s not the right word for it but whatever, Gon in Killua’s priority list is emblematic of this
His helping Gon is different from his doing what his family tells him because he actively wants to help Gon. Just wanted to make that point
All the same, his affection for Gon is part of what keeps him in this self-destructive mindset
That Alluka can directly empathize with this mindset, having been held captive and literally having magic powers that depend on other people making wishes, means (I hope) that she and Killua together can have some adventures and grow into their own autonomy
Were I to posit a coming-of-age story question for Killua to be searching for an answer to, it would probably be something like “Separate from what other people need from me, what do I want to do with my life?”
 As for the other stuff-
I don’t think they’re keeping in touch, at least not regularly, but I think they definitely do both have an understanding that they can call on each other for help if they need it. Gon references what Kite tells him - that whatever changes have happened, they still are and always will be friends. And friends help each other when it’s needed! Killua does his tsundere thing and makes a fuss to Ikalgo about Ikalgo so much as thanking Killua for his help, because to Killua it’s not something that even needs saying. Of course he’ll help his friends. This no doubt still holds for his friendship with Gon. So maybe not sending each other weekly updates, but I also don’t think they’d deliberately avoid speaking to each other.
I’d say that both Gon and Killua agreed to split up with the understanding that it wouldn’t be the last time they’d see each other. Whether either of them have an outright plan to link up again and travel together indefinitely, it’s hard to say; I kind of doubt it, mostly because there hasn’t been much discussion for either of them on practical long-term plans. Killua has escaping his family, but he’ll need something to do after that as well. Gon’s back on Whale Island doing homework (bless his heart), and now that he’s met Ging who knows where he’ll turn his eyes next.
Personally, I really want Alluka to play an important role in getting Killua to a place where he can be totally secure and happy with Gon again. Partly because she’s already proven herself capable of asserting herself and setting him straight, partly because she needs some good ass character development herself (and her establishing independence would be huge in helping Killua establish HIS), partly because she has that great line about letting Killua go play with Gon again once she’s had her fill.
It’s kind of hard for me to say what exactly I want their reunion to be like because it relies so heavily on what they do in the meantime, and there’s not much to work with there yet. I love drama, so some dramatic circumstances and tension would be nice. A big ol’ emotionally cathartic payoff when they see each other again.
I guess I can’t really offer anything concrete in the way of their post-reunion bond, firstly because it’s hard to imagine them interacting in a way that’s really different from their canon relationship, and secondly because if I start going down that road it’ll be fanfiction city, baby. And I live there, but if we’re talking about stuff I actually consider canon… who knows! I’m looking forward to it.
