So I don’t have anything truly Star Wars for May the 4th BUT my friend convinced me to join my first DnD campaign (a homebrew passion project she’s DMing) and I mayyyy have developed a new fixation!

I created a brand new character for the campaign--a tiefling of course--and it inspired me to take some of my favorite devaronian characters and restyle them into tieflings that fit into this world!

First up is Ki’anya Kiyana! She’s a cousin of my player character (though she was still a baby the last time they saw each other) who discovered a betrayal in the family that drove her to make a warlock pact. This world doesn’t really have true deities, but it does have a mostly-eradicated belief system surrounding death. Her pact was therefore formed with Death itself; the dark markings on her horns, neck, hands, and feet symbolize her connection to it.

This was mostly just a fun and nostalgic design challenge for myself, since I already have my player character, but it was really fun to revisit her! Anyway, stay tuned for the other three!

Hey everyone! So, I decided for the Angels group pic that I’m gonna put up everyone’s characters a couple at a time as I make them, just so I don’t go completely dark while I work on the thing.

Thanks for the ask, anon, Ki’anya was always one of my favorites of my ocs!

I believe I’ve mentioned before that Inna was one of the reasons that Ki’anya decided to keep her horns the way they were (as opposed to shortening or removing them, which she did consider for a time). But, Inna was also the one to gift her her very first set of horn rings! Ki’anya liked them so much that she wears some form of horn jewelry for the rest of her life (some variations can be seen in her timeline pictures in this post)

As for her distinctive chain halo, it was something that she bought for herself not too much later. The choice was no doubt influenced by Woad and their punk/alt/ish fashion tastes.

Ki’anya didn’t grow up with many positive role models, or really anyone that she could have deep and honest conversations with. The Koz Cousins were among those that she connected with early on. Joining the Angels was an impulse, but one that gave her the space and support to grow into the person she wanted to be.

The question came up of where your Angels would be if they didn’t join the Angels. This is that AU’s Ki’anya!

She still runs away from home at age fifteen, but instead of being taken in by the Angels, she joins a gang of runaway kids and teens run by @in-a-nutcase’s Collas. She doesn’t quite have the same level of confidence in this AU, instead it’s more of a furious determination not to let the world get her down. Still, she makes the best of things and acts as something of a caretaker and protector to some of the younger kids.

I posted some info about Ki’anya’s past a week or so ago and got the inspiration to do a little age chart!

(not pictured) Early life: Ki’anya was an unhappy kid. She was assigned male at birth, though she has known she was a girl ever since she was young. Unfortunately, her parents didn’t take this seriously when she expressed it to them, choosing instead to believe that she’d eventually “grow out of it.”

Combined with this mental stress, she couldn’t seem to do well in school, which eventually lead to her breaking rules, skipping class, and neglecting assignments. (She’ll discover later on in her life that she has dyslexia, which made learning the conventional way complicated for her) Her parents, both overworked corporate employees, didn’t have the time or energy to deal with what they deemed to be an attitude problem.

(Top Left) ~15 yo: Her early teens were especially hard on her as her horns grew in. She took to wearing wigs and big sweaters and generally tried to blend into the background. When she turned fifteen, her parents sent her to a boarding school with the hope that she would grow out of her habits and get her schooling back on track. Instead, she ran away and joined Devaron’s Angels (the group of course belonging to @thefoodwiththedood!)

(Top Right) 16-17 yo: Ki’anya finally finds a home for herself among the Angels. Not long after, she makes the decision to start HRT. Ki’anya also becomes comfortable enough to reach out and start making friends, though a bit timidly at first. She considers removing her horns for a while, but ultimately decides not to. Instead, she embraces them and starts decorating them with jewelry. She also gets very fluffy!

(Bottom Left) ~21 yo: She grows into a confident, happy young woman, fiercely dedicated to the Angels and their cause. She’s easygoing with an edge of sass, getting along with most of her fellow soldiers (when she isn’t stealing their snacks). Once the Angels succeed in liberating Devaron, she waffles a bit on what the future holds for her.

(Bottom Right) ~30 yo: She is well into her career as Head of Security for the Devaronian Senator, Hes Chaddic. The position can be exasperating at times, but overall she’s very happy with her lot in life, becoming a regular fixture at Senate meetings. She absolutely loves kids (especially Hes’s son, Kasson) and will often break her calm, guarded composure to pull funny faces or tell them stories.

I hope to finish out this out later, but this is what I have for the time being!

A new potential member of @thefoodwiththedood’s Angels! (There aren’t enough green devos out there, so I figured this was a perfect opportunity to help remedy that issue as well!)

Ki’anya Dimirhekov is a stealth fighter who can throw a grappling hook with scary accuracy and can pick any lock in under two minutes.

Her favorite hobbies include sneaking up on people (a remarkable feat considering how thick and heavy her shoes are) and crunching her way through bags of space Doritos. She has dagger-sharp teeth and likes flashing rather unsettling smiles at people, especially when she’s about to take them out.

As far as timelines go, she joins up in her mid-teens and is barely into her twenties by the time that Devaron is liberated.

Note

How do you think Ki’anya gets along with the other Angels? Is she competitive? Does she prank people? Who does she like to work with?

When she first came to the Angels in her mid-teens, Ki’anya much preferred to duck her head and make as little of a splash as possible. It was easy enough to get lost in the shuffle of a couple hundred soldiers, and her position as a stealth operative made it easy to work alone. She really would only ever have to talk to the head of the division.

She grew up learning that adults tended not to take her seriously, or tried to make decisions for her. After all, her parents just sent her to a boarding school once they decided that they had had enough of her attitude. One of the reasons that she stuck with the Angels was because Hes essentially put a blaster in her hands and told her that she could make a difference. No one had ever really said that before.

She starts warming up way more when she comes to realize that as long as you’re willing to fight, you have a place in the Angels -- and having a place was something that she never had before. While she is a little hesitant to trust adults that haven’t earned it, Ki’anya tends to naturally gravitate toward younger recruits and people her own age. Most of them have the same streak of rebellion and recklessness that she does, and she fits right in with them.

Of course, when she gets older she becomes more confident in herself and really settles in among the Angels. (The far-more-sure-of-herself version that I’ve been drawing.) She’s way more willing to put herself out there and meet people as they join, though she tends to get along with people better if they approach her first.

She absolutely develops a competitive streak as an Angel. She certainly isn’t the best marksman (not that she’d ever admit it), but few people can beat her aim with a grappling hook or her time to break a lock. She knows her limits but will absolutely bluff her abilities, especially around friendly rivals. Challenge her to any sort of contest and she just can’t say no. Suffice it to say she’s lost more than a couple bets doing this, but she’s a good sport about it.

Ki’anya isn’t much one for pranks. Her idea of mischief is pretty much limited to raiding Hes’s personal stash of snack food and (mostly) getting away with it. However, if she were to get a partner in crime who knew what they were doing she would probably be down for it!

As a random fact, Ki’anya really idolizes snipers. They combined stealth, which she shines at, but can also fight very effectively from a longer range. With the really good ones, she low-key hero worships them and gets a little flustered talking to them.
