What’s your most hated fandom characterization for each of the main 7?

hoo boy am i glad you asked. although i’m gonna be real, my issue is less with fandom characterization, because you do you i don’t give a shit, and more with how people go batty if you personally are not a fan of fanon characterizations.

like, lemme be obvious and talk about my biggest example. i am a brown eyed lance truther. we know this. the amount of weirdo comments, weirdo DMs, and weirdo asks i get is atrocious. i post a lot of them bc they’re so stupid they’re funny but the amount of people per week that tell me to kill myself is lowkey wild. the amount of people that love to say some variation of “i liked your fic but you ruined it by making lances eyes brown! his eyes are blue!” and i’ve checked other brown eyed truther’s fics — either they delete their comments better than me, or they do not get the same thing. idk what the deal is lol.

i will concede to the point that i’m a contrarian and annoying about it, but a list of the following non-fanon headcanons/characterizations i hold that have been commented on in some derisive way:

- bitchy hunk (lol)

- non “cinnamon roll too pure and baby and good for this world” hunk*

- allura is a good character (🤡)**

- allura is a sweetheart

**the allura hate is ridiculous and largely rooted in anti-Blackness. it should not be a fight to say that she had a reason to feel betrayed by keith’s heritage, that she did not “get in the way” of klance, that her death was stupid and ridiculous, that she is often pushed over in favour of klance (not as in she’s less popular, but that her/her death are used as a plot device to further klance), and that she is as interesting, nuanced, and multifaceted as the rest of them.

***people, inevitably, feminize characters in fandoms (largely because many people in fandom are young women, i know i feminize characters simply bc i’m making them like me and i’m feminine lol), and my issue is that people (in the general sense, not everybody) love to feminize keith and then get really mad if anyone else is feminized. this is not about fem or trans woman keith btw. this is about people omega-ifying him and then losing their MINDS if i don’t share that headcanon.

****i literally only wrote this once and then never again because people lost their minds. but as much as i love bi lance, i think it’s interesting that usually, when we see “boy crazy” or “girl crazy” characters, especially if they have a lot of chemistry or homoerotic tension with a same-gender character, people are like oh ya that’s comphetting. that character is desperately trying to outrun the gay thoughts. but with lance, who was definitely girl crazy and cared more about having a girlfriend than actually dating and falling in love (think “mrs blue lion” — he didn’t give a fuck about who he was marrying, so long that it was a girl), calling him gay will have people saying you’re erasing bisexuality. as if he was not fucking straight in the show. so.

TERRIBLE AT COMMUNICATING. We all know Keith is stubborn and easily overwhelmed with a short temper. He doesn’t really know how to talk to people without getting angry. He feels that bc he has a hard time explaining exactly what he means, people never understand him and that makes him mad.

Bro isn’t scared of anything…and that low key scares everyone else. Like…who isn’t afraid of anything? The whole team has tried sooooo hard to figure out what will get Keith to jump out of his skin and scream like a child but to no avail… Boy just doesn’t flinch, doesn’t care, couldn’t care less about bugs and rodents and clowns and heights or anything like that.

Wears his gloves in the shower sometimes. Like wtf ???

Green Flags ✅

Also bc he is not afraid of anything, boy will protect his friends/family/partner SO HARD. He will verbally AND physically tear someone apart just for looking at you the wrong way. Very protective and caring but in a good way ya know?

Actually very selfless and not self-centered in the slightest. Keith is very giving and helpful, despite his tough exterior, he’s very caring, observant and considerate. He’ll give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He’s always down to help others. Ugh Sweet heart ❤️‍🔥

Has a sick ass space wolf that will also protect you like COSMO IS A MAJOR PLUS OKAY BIG GREEN FLAG DOGGO

LANCE 💙

Red Flags 🚩

Obvi his biggest red flag is how flirty he is. Boy will flirt with anything that breaths and that can get really annoying sometimes and affect the rest of the team.

Jealous AS FUCK. Like the petty jealous type. Lance is the kind of guy to pretend he has a partner back home just bc some alien girl he was flirting with said she had a partner already. He’s like “OH YEAH? Wow cool me too, same same, yeah….” But homie’s ego is a bit sore now…

Lies a lot. Lance just panics sometimes and tells a lie. He knows it’s wrong and he always feels guilty after lying to someone but it always just slips out. His mouth moves faster than his brain most the time.

Green Flags ✅

THE BEST HUGGER/CUDDLER OMFGGGGGG. Lance is the best hugger and cuddle buddy ever, period, end of story, try to change my mind. His long arms always stretch fully around the recipient’s torso and he squeezes tight enough to make you feel warm but not smothered. Usually will rest his chin on the other person’s head if they’re short enough (so Pidge obvi).

Very aware of other’s moods/body language/tone of voice. Everyone thinks Lance is “the dumb one” but he’s actually very in tune with what’s going on in the moment, what’s going on around him. I think he can tell how others feel the second he sees them. Good intuition kinda thing. An empath for sure.

Very considerate and often remembers the little things about people. Does he remember what he learned in class just a couple days ago? Pffft heck no! Does he remember everyone’s birthday, every year and get them a very thoughtful gift? HELL YEAHH I LOVE THIS SWEET BOY OMFG 🩵

Honestly…idfk Shiro is so perf. Perfect baby boy all the way

Maybe he could seem too nice at first…? Like when someone is nice but ur like “are you for real? Or are you fake and evil and you’re hiding something?” I think Shiro could be perceived as being fake nice at first.

Literally the most trustworthy man in the universe. Will defend his friends, loved ones, and planet until the end of time. Shiro would die before revealing any secrets you’ve asked him to keep. The best person to vent to bc he’ll never tell another soul about it. He’s like a personal diary

GIRL WILL WORK HERSELF TO DEATH PLZ GO CHECK UP ON HER, BRING HER FOOD AND WATER, GENTLY FORCE HER INTO BED SHE NEEDS SLEEP.

Lowkey kinda moody and can get snappy very easily. Pidge is a sweet heart and very smart and a good team player but she’s also stubborn and will yell to get her point across or make herself heard (she’s an Aries…what’d you expect?)

Sometimes very conceited and braggy about how smart she is. Like yeah Pidge, we know you’re a genius and you could code in your sleep. WE GET IT. UR SMART. GEEZ 😒

Pidge is so baby. Yeah, she can get snappy and braggy sometimes but…SHES SO BABY PLZ FORGIVE HER. She’s just young and stressed okay? Give her a break. She’ll apologize eventually with puppy dog eyes and a soft voice and while she looks adorable, she is being sincere and really wants to resolve this.

Very loyal and determined. I mean look how hard she searched and fought for her dad and brother. She won’t stop for anything or anyone once she has her mind set. Pidge Will never leave you behind and will always turn back to help someone in need.

Androgynous royalty. Pidge is soooo chill about her gender and identity. We love a confident babe 🏳️‍🌈💚

HUNK 💛

Boy is too scared sometimes. I think Hunk has really bad anxiety and it’s not the anxiety that is the red flag, it’s how he copes with it…which he doesn’t. Hunk let’s his anxiety get the best if him sometimes…but he’s trying.

Honestly…does Hunk really have any other red flags??? Baby boy is so sweet idk 🤷🏻

Over eats to the point of getting sick sometimes…and never learns his lesson. (Me asf)

THE SWEETEST MOST CONSIDERATE AND THOUGHTFUL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE OMFG WHAT A SWEET HEART 😩💛 honestly just a very good guy. We love Hunk.

Obvi his cooking skills!!! Can cook for any occasion, on any cooking surface, in any conditions. Can cook so many different dishes from so many rich cultures around the world! So talented. His food always hits.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST at cheering others up. Soooo funny and silly and kind and relatable. He tries so hard to brighten others’ days when they need it. Will stop what he’s doing just to go cheer up a friend or loved one and watch them smile again.

MATT 🧡

Red Flags 🚩

Interrupts A LOT. In any given conversation, he will interrupt and talk over someone else at least once every minute. Can get really annoying sometimes but in his defense, if he waits too long to speak up, he’ll just totally forget what he was gonna say.

Like Lance, I think Matt would be overly flirty and act like a Fuck boy sometimes. Like bro sit your nerd ass down, that person is SOOO out of your league plz chill.

Can not take anything seriously (unless it comes to his family or his or anyone else’s safety) but day to day, Matt makes so many dumb and inappropriate jokes at the worst times. Ugh 😒

Green Flags ✅

Very brotherly to everyone he considers a friend or family. Protective, constantly checking up on others, making sure they have eaten, asking if they need anything from him. He cares a lot. Bonus points bc he’s a very good brother to his actual sibling too. Aww Pidge and Matt are sibling goals. 🥹

HOT AS FUCK NO MATTER HIS HAIR STYLE/LENGTH. You can fight me on this. Matt is gorg and so is his hair at every single moment throughout the show.

Extremely accepting and open minded. Matt treats everyone he meets equally and never seems phased when he meets others so different from himself. He may ask some questions for the sake of his own curiosity, but would never pass judgment on another person.

keith being weirdly good at card games bc in the foster home he used to play them with the younger kids when they couldn't sleep

stop i love good with kids keith. im gonna cook hold on just you wait.

“That is the fucking fourth time you’ve won in Go Fish, Keith!”

Keith shrugs and gathers up the deck of cards to shuffle them between his two thumbs and forefingers.

Zarkon has decided to give the Paladins a night off from the war raging its path around the universe, so on their off day they sit in a loose circle on the main deck of the ship.

Originally, they had tried charades, but one too many altean animals from Allura had killed the mood.

They were at a loss for a while, bickering quietly, when Keith produced a worn pack of playing cards from the inside jacket of his pocket and put together a quiet game of Solitare for himself.

Lance glanced over and saw him shuffling those cards like a pro, and his brief moment of silence was crushed to bits when Pidge suggested they play card games.

“I’m sorry you’re bad at Go Fish,” Keith offers blandly as he shuffles, sounding not at all like he’s even remotely sorry, “But I’m not and you just have to live with it.”

Hunk glowers at him.

“Are we sure his cards aren’t rigged?” Lance comments, leaning towards Pidge for support.

Keith’s nose wrinkles as he shuffles, “How would you rig a fuckin’ deck o’ cards, huh?”

“I—I don’t know, maybe you carved shit into them!”

One single raised eyebrow and Lance’s defense crumbles with a huff.

“How are you so good at these human cards, Keith?” Allura asks, leaning forwards with interest.

Her hair is down and shifts like the steam curling off of a waterfall down over her shoulders.

Keith shrugs. “Go Fish again?”

All of them nod in ascent. He begins to deal out the cards evenly and methodically, and while he does, Keith gradually dredges up the memories associated with his bent and worn red playing cards. “I grew up in an orphanage, yaknow? And nobody really looked at a little ol kid like me, so I had to find ways to entertain myself.”

They begin to play while he talks. Keith stringing together more than six words in a sentence in a normal speaking tone outside of a mission was basically unheard of. “I found a deck of cards one day. One of the older kids taught me how to play Go Fish, and whenever we had time thats what we did. And cards was my only social skill.”

Quietly, Shiro asks Hunk, “Any sevens?”

“Go Fish.”

“I eventually picked up Solitare from the old folks home we visited as community service. All the younguns seemed to really like playing cards with me, so when one of them couldn’t sleep they’d come get me and we’d play a game. Somethin’ easy, even just Solitaire while I sat with them. Shiro, you’ve got a nine, give it to me I know it.”

Begrudgingly, Shiro hands over not one but two nines.

“That’s quite sweet. But I assumed you weren’t fond of other members of your kind?” Allura shakes her head when Lance asks for a six.

Lance gives Keith the finger when Keith mouthes skill issue at him. “Mostly, I ain’t. But little kids are different. They haven’t done anythin’ to deserve being disliked yet. And I know that when I was their age, I needed someone to stay up and play cards with. So I figured I would be that person for them.”

Small tears are beading in Shiro’s eyes.

Playing cards becomes tradition between the seven of them, whenever they get the chance, even if its four in the morning. Keith and his cards are always a comfort.

I've gotten really frustrated with how much I haven't been writing in the last several months. There are a mountain of reasons why, but even when I can sit down to do it, nothing happens (that part at least probably has something to do with my rampant adhd). This 1k start to the chapter has been sitting in my wip folder for a very long time now, and even though I know where the chapter is going (I have an entire outline ffs) I haven't been able to get anywhere with it. So here it is, as much of it as there is, the beginning of the actual chapter 14 (the rest of it is here)

With Keith’s party over, attention shifted back to the Halloween party over the course of the week. Everyone was working on their costumes, Acxa informed everyone that she was making cupcakes and that Narti had given her a new drink recipe, and Pidge, being Pidge, had decided that she was going to make an oversized – and functional – pocket watch for her White Rabbit costume. During a break at Oriande the day after Keith’s actual birthday, Lance checked his messages and jumped into the Halloween group chat immediately.

SilkDancer: looks like we’re gonna need to change our party venue

TheRedKing: everything ok?

SilkDancer: I just got a text from my Mami 💖 they’re going to have Nadia and Sylvio for the night and just asked if I’d take them out trick or treating bc Rachel won’t be home in time for it and they always buy a truckload of candy for the neighborhood kids

Cinnamoroll: how do your parents feel about us having our party over there?

SilkDancer: I’ll find out brb

SilkDancer: we’re good

“All right, I think that’s everything,” Allura said as she dropped the last box of decorations into Lance’s trunk the next Monday.

Lance closed said trunk and hopped up onto the back of his car. “Meh, even if it isn’t this is way more than enough.”

“And we’re all still on for Friday night, yeah?”

“Of course. Gotta have a pre-party party to make sure everything’s set for the party. And with that, I need to drag Keith off to see Florona for a last fitting before Friday, and then we’re dropping all this off at my parents’.”

“Give them my love and tell them I miss them,” Allura said as Lance slid off the trunk.

“You’ll see them on Saturday, Lura, but of course I will,” Lance said with a laugh.

Quite honestly, Lance wasn’t sure what he walked into or noticed first when he stepped inside Luxite. Pidge was on her back-of-chair perch snickering, the familiar buzz of a tattoo machine told him that Matt was with a client, and Shiro and Hunk were setting up a table in the front gallery room ignoring the fact that Keith was sprawled across one of the leather sofas looking like he was completely done with every human alive. One of the five of them was apparently in an odd music mood that day, the scene in front of him set to a mix of The Pixies and Radiohead.

“What happened in here?” Lance asked, sneaking in beside Pidge.

Pidge explained through barely contained giggles. “So this guy wanted barbed wire – boring in the first place. But he wanted it around his neck – they never get them finished. Ever. And the best part – he wanted it shaped like a hand with the fingers wrapping around from the back. I saw the ‘sketch’. It was awful. I gotta admit, Keith was pretty patient trying to explain why his idea sucks.”

“What the actual fuck. Even I think that sounds stupid. Well, I’d better go rescue him from his own wallowing. We have to go see Florona for a last fitting before the weekend.”

“We’ve got ours all done, although I did have to talk Matt down from trying to order a cheap fursuit off Amazon. I love Halloween, really I do, and everything that goes with it, but this thing looked like a possessed Easter Bunny.”

“And on that note…” Lance said and left Pidge to her giggle fit to drop onto the sofa beside his boyfriend. He immediately found himself with a lapful of exasperated Alpha burrowing into whatever he could reach.

“Why do people have to be…like that,” Keith mumbled.

“No idea. I’ve asked myself that every time I deal with an aggressive dance mom. And as much as I would like to stay and snuggle, we have to get to Flora and then drop everything off at my parents’. Come on, up. Frank Black and Thom Yorke are definitely not helping with your mood.”

Keith allowed himself to be dragged off the sofa, pausing only long enough on the way out the door to grab his black leather jacket from where he’d left it on the back of the chair Pidge was perched on. She smacked his shoulders several times for unsettling her, but he only laughed.

“You can’t hit for shit,” he said, still laughing.

“Nope. But I know that about myself. I go for the long game. Watch your back, Kogane.”

Keith raised a single eyebrow at her while slipping his jacket on. “You forget that I’m also a younger sibling. You won’t get me that easily.”

Pidge made a show of examining her nails. “You say that, but we both know that Shiro is about as subtle as a brick with this kind of thing.”

Lance sneaked in beside her, making her jump. “Yeah, that’s true, but I’m the baby of five. And my siblings are that sneaky. Maybe you should watch your back, Holt.”

“HolyfuckingshitLance,” she wheezed, “Yeah, ok, you might have made a point. But just the one. And you can’t be here all the time to protect him. I’ll get him when he’s not looking.”

Keith snorted. “I think you forget that we live together. I’m used to his deviousness.”

Pidge scrunched up her face, shoving at them both. “Ew. No. Go away. Go to your appointment. I do not need to hear about Lance and his deviousness.”

“Yeah, babe,” Lance said while pulling Keith toward the door, “I don’t think Pidgey wants to hear about our…deviousness.”

“Oh god! Ew! No! Gross! Get the fuck out of here!”

HI I'm sorry this took forever I have honestly no idea why bc I adore these two and I ADORE this prompt so my brain should not have shut down the way it did. anywayz to make up for the wait i tried to make this a bit longer than my usual posts :) I hope you like it!

(also, as usual, everything here I came up with myself, and if there's any similarity to someone elses post I apologise and promise it wasn't intentional)

now without further ado,

Lance and Allura!

similar to lance and pidge, the two are decidedly Not close in the beginning

i had an entire thing about how i imagine they became friends at first written out, but it was a tad too long and i didn't want to clog up the post with too much exposition. so instead, let's just skip forward and get into their dynamic after they become buddies :) (however, if anyone wants to see the backstory I would not be opposed)

although he no longer has a crush on her, lance makes it a point to hype her up as much as he possibly can

at first allura was confused, because she thought it was him trying to flirt with her still, but once she understood what was going on she was more than willing to join in

lance when allura completely destroys the training droid: WOWZA ladies and gentlemen of the jury may I present to you the icon the legend the moment herself her royal highness princess allura of altea!!!!! if you thought that was impressive just WAIT till she gets warmed up because this is just the beginning!!! she can even do it in heels-

shiro: lance, please focus, this is really important that we-

allura: no no, shiro, please. let him finish.

they both show their friendship in slightly different ways. lance's way is that he is physically incapable of not humouring the princess

allura when lance shows her his cartwheel: incredible!!!!!!! i have never been more impressed in my life!!! do you think you could do it in heels??

lance: uhhh. y'know princess I'm really loving the faith, but-

allura: :)?

lance:.... what if you don't have my size?

lance fractured his ankle. allura has yet to stop apologising.

allura's way is definitely safer, but it's also a lot more... cluttered. to say the least.

allura, returning from a recon mission with a tiny bag filled with what looks like tiny, glittery dinosaur figurines made of glass: lance! look at what i bought for you!

lance, taking one look at the contents of the bag: wow, 'lurra, this is… so nice of you

allura: lance, are you. are you crying?

lance (definitely crying): what? NO! of course not!! I'm just. allergic, to. uh. oxygen.

allura: what.

allura never had any siblings back on altea, but she always wanted them

this, paired with how much lance misses his own family, means that the two of them kind of gravitate towards each other in terms of siblinghood.

as a child allura would imagine what it would be like to have siblings, but especially a twin. she would fall asleep to dreams of secret handshakes, finishing each other's sentences, and swapping places to trick people

she doesn't realise the brother she has found in lance until a long time after they've become close (how would she recognise a dynamic she has never been privy to?)

this realisation happens on just a random day in the castleship lounge. she is talking to hunk, when suddenly lance, who she didn't even realise was listening to their conversation, butts in and finishes her sentence.

she's annoyed at being interrupted at first, but then what happened sinks in, and suddenly she's fighting off tears. lance doesn't know why she's crying, but he hugs her anyway.

the two of them match accessories a lot

with allura's love of pretty things (and the abundance of stuff in her closet) paired with lance's natural dramatics, nobody else on the team is entirely sure of whether this is intentional or not.

it started off as intentional. it is now second nature.

one decision, however, was completely planned and thought out for exactly twenty minutes, and then deeply regretted by both parties for the next 48 hours

allura pierced lance's ears

now before you get judgemental, you try making a smart decision at two am space-time while very giddy and slightly buzzing on some weird old alien candy that not even your resident alien is sure the ingredients of. then talk to me.

pidge: okay so you're gonna need a needle, ice, and… yeah I'm pretty sure that's it

lance: don't we need a potato too

pidge: … why the fuck would you need a potato

lance: I dunno!!! my sister pierced her friend's ears one time and she mentioned a potato!!! I'm just trying to make sure everything goes well, pidge!

allura: I love these earth customs you two are showing me!! when I got my ears pierced it was done with some kind of laser, but your way sounds much more fun :).

allura: also, what is a "potato" and where can we find one?

it goes about as well as you would expect

the excited buzz on lance lasts about three ticks into the process, and then the screaming starts

pidge (the genius who came up with the idea) gives him some altean taffy to chew on to stop him from making too much noise, and allura, the angel, is babbling right along with him

allura, with tears in her eyes: how was I supposed to know it was going to hurt mine didn't hurt well it was 10,000 years ago and I was very young altean children don't have very strong pain receptors you know, maybe that's why my parents had it done at that age, or maybe your people are just completely barbaric, who thought this would be a good idea?? pidge why did you suggest this poor lonce is in tears lonce I'm so sorry but if it's any consolation at all at least now your ears won't be nearly as hideous as before and you can borrow as many of my earrings as you want except for the sparkly green ones that dangle those are my favourite well they're actually my second favourite I'm wearing my favourite - you can't borrow those either, by the way, but you can have any of the others I promise

lance, also crying and still chewing the altean taffy: hhb, llura yub domf hoff do bologuys, ss long'ss yub sanstsd thu niddle frst

allura (who did not remember to sanitize the needle), now crying freely: I don't understand what you're saying

(pidge records the entire thing)

the next day lance wakes up with ears that are very sore and slightly green, and allura faints

they spend the entire morning avoiding shiro in case they get in trouble and trying to figure out how to get the healing pods to work

lance: what do you mean you don't know allura you literally lived in one of these

allura: I was asleep the whole time!!! don't put this on me!!

lance: don't put- you are the one that pierced my ears, allura, of course it's on you!

coran, who has been watching this entire interaction in silence: oh, I thought i noticed something different about you, number three!

lance and allura: [screaming]

coran helps them set up the healing pod

unfortunately lance has to take the earrings out, so the holes close back up, but fortunately coran just so happens to know how to pierce ears the correct way that they did on altea

lance, after half a day in the healing pod, watching coran advance upon him with a literal handheld flamethrower that shoots lasers: is it too late to go back to the ear infection

coran is surprisingly very adept at the skill of altean beautification (an activity that has a surprisingly long and rich backstory, which lance and allura get an in-depth lesson on for the hour that it takes to do lance's ears properly)

they're exhausted afterwards, but lance looks great, so they're in good moods regardless

they like to teach each other about things from their respective planets - both for fun, and because it helps them feel less homesick

whenever allura is particularly down about the loss of altea, lance will visit her in her room, and the two of them will just lie together on her bed.

they don't say much, most of the time, just link their pinkies together and stare at the ceiling

when they do talk, it's quiet, and always allura who starts it - she might share something she remembers about altea, and lance listens quietly and then responds with something he misses about cuba

it isn't always sad tho - sometimes they just talk about things they remember that pop into their heads, or explain things to each other that they wouldn't otherwise know

at the space mall, they make a game out of pointing things out to each other and trying to guess what it is (allura can only guess when they're in the earth shop, but it's okay because she more than makes up for it in enthusiasm)

lance, holding a my little pony collectible: okay princess. what is this.

allura, completely serious: a weapon

lance: ... close

allura, holding up a set of magnetic heart necklaces to the light: what does… "biffs" mean?

lance: it's "bffs," princess, it means "best friends forever"

allura: oh! you mean like me and you?

lance:

lance: 'lurra what did we say about making me cry in public, we've talked about this-

(they buy the necklaces. obviously.)

they mess with each other's hair a lot

once allura learns that lance's hair is naturally curly, and that he just straightens it all of the time, she makes it her god-given mission to convince him to wear it naturally more often

this mission includes plans such as stealing his hair straightener, "donating" a bunch of curly hair products to him because she "doesn't have the space", and getting keith to say he thinks curly hair is cool one day in the rec room

she still thinks it's the funniest thing ever that that actually worked

other than week-long sabotage plots, they both think it's fun to have lance braid allura's hair

he used to braid his sister's and niece's hairs all of the time, so he has a knack for it that allura did not expect at all but is obsessed with anyway

allura, coming to lance's room a few hours before another diplomatic party: hey..... how yall doin.....

lance, already prepared with a million different brushes and bands: oh my god just get in already

lance and allura have a lot in common

one of these things, they learn very early into their relationship, is that they are both disasters when it comes to pretty girls (and boys, but that's a lance-exclusive situation)

so they become each other's wingmen

they both tend to get… a little too into it

the team: [at a diplomatic ball]

lance, seeing a pretty alien girl looking allura's way and "politely" speedwalking over to her: alluralluraalluraalluraalluralluraalluraalluraalluralluraalluraallura pretty girl look over there eleven o'clock LOOK she's gonna walk away looklooklook

allura: lance darling thank you so much for your help but I am in the middle of talking to the president

and alternatively:

allura tries to set lance and keith up all the time. at first she was worried she would be overstepping boundaries, but after one particular sleepover where lance spent an entire hour lamenting his "bad luck" she decided to take things into her own hands

this includes, but is not limited to; sending them on supply missions alone together (often), mentioning particular things lance has done to his appearance to keith every time she can, and talking about specific paladin bonds more than she maybe should

lance hates it

keith, walking into the lounge: h-

allura, immediately: hello keith!! help settle an argument, will you :)?

keith: um… okay

allura: lovely! now, tell me, do you think lance looks cuter today than he did yesterday? we can't seem to agree on whether or by he's stunning or simply handsome. what do you think?

keith: uh-

allura: oh, and while I have you, have you noticed that his ears are pierced?

lance, beet red: allu-

allura: what :(?? can't i be proud of my handiwork??

lance, to keith: I am not associated with her

after a week of this keith literally sets up a system where if allura is in a room he walks into he just does a complete 180 and walks back out

one time, at a diplomatic meeting, an alien politician mistook them for a couple and they both choked on their drinks at the same time, and then got offended that the other one agreed that the concept was insane

allura: what happened to being the princess of your dreams, lance?? I thought I MEANT something to you. obviously! i was wrong!

lance: oh yeah?? then why did you GIGGLE, allura. what's so funny, huh?? my good looks??? my charming charisma?? how far out of your league I am???

allura:

lance: okay maybe that last one was a bit of a stretch

another thing lance and allura do is pronounce each other's names wrong

they call each other lonce and allora

it started as lance kind of making fun of allura's accent, but turned into just one of their Things

please tell me why lance is the ‘obviously pining from far away’ type

especially when keith’s around

like okay imagine lance and keith are hanging out with all their friends right

probably at some cute, old little diner because lance is always in the mood for a milkshake and keith loves spending all his coins on the pinball machine

of course when they get there, they all cram into one booth even tho shiro and hunk have the broadest shoulders of the group and trying to spread out is a little hard but they always make it work

lance will order drinks and food for the whole table because he’s memorized everyone’s orders and his irresistible ✨charm✨ comes in handy when he goes out on a limb to ask their waiter or waitress for an extra basket of fries on the house

and yeah it works bc it’s lance and he’s so charming and loves the way it gets mixed reactions from his friends like allura giggling, hunk sighing, pidge rolling her eyes, shiro ignoring him but also being secretly happy for the free fries, coran being the proud uncle he is, and keith - blushing like a mad man and trying to hide it bc lance is an idiot

as they’re waiting for their food, lance will ask for a kids coloring page and crayons and color the various pictures with hunk and pidge (and hunk would kick lance’s ass at tic-tac-toe)

keith will wander off with allura and coran as they watch him play on the pinball machine with his pocket full of quarters ready to play for as long is it takes the food to be done

and it’s so annoying how good he is because allura and coran will cheer for him or laugh or praise him and it’ll immediately grab lance’s attention away from coloring his half of the kid’s coloring page

he’ll slowly look up, pretending to be looking out for their food or watching one of the various tv’s playing some funky music video from the 80’s but really his eyes are glued to keith

and lance won’t ever understand how something as simple and played out as a stinkin pinball machine could bring out a side of keith that lance wishes he could see all the time

keith, standing there with his gloved hands on either side of the machine, long black hair tucked behind his ear on one side as his bangs dangle over his stupidly gorgeous violet eyes, his thick eyebrows frowned up as he concentrates on the game

smirk on his face

and sometimes, when the game’s getting good, his eye will light up like lightning flashing across a dark, stormy sky, and his lip will curl into a smirk as he leans closer to the machine because he’s winning

that’s when lance just can’t bring himself to look away because keith looks so cute when he’s winning, like a little kid in a candy shop, his features usually hard and brooding are now so soft and pure and beautiful

and something inside lance will go off and make the hairs on his arms stand up and a chill go down his spine and a small smile spread across his face because keith’s smile is so pretty he should smile more why doesn’t he smile more it’s so contagious lance feels lightheaded

he can’t look away because his heart is beating so fast and if he so much as takes a breath or blinks, he’s afraid he’ll miss these little moments that no one else pays attention to because they’re all too dense to notice just how amazing keith is

how cool keith is

how cute and pretty and wonderful keith is

and lance will let out a lovestruck sigh as he slumps forward and begins to daydream about how great life would be if he and keith ever got together even though that’s literally impossible because lance is very sure keith hates his guts and doesn’t want anything to do with him 😔

but the greatest part is when keith does win! and the small smile on his face turns into something big and real and unfiltered and he balls his gloved fists and shakes them victoriously in the air as coran and allura clap and pat him on the back

and lance will silently cheer from where he sits in the booth, laughing and smiling along with keith, wishing he was over there to celebrate too

wishing he could pat keith’s back or give him a high five or a hug, anything to be near him and to see that beautiful smile up close, to feel the warmth from keith’s happy energy radiating into lance’s bones

oh, how lance wishes to be keith’s

how he wishes he could just drop all the stupid rivalry crap between them and be something more

something real

and of course the moment would be ruined when keith catches him STARING (because he’s been staring for like 5 minutes) and lance’s inner bi panic would activate and he would frown at keith for catching him and reflexively flip him the middle finger as if it was keith’s fault for catching him

keith would frown back and roll his eyes as he turns back around to play again

and lance would sit there, trying so hard to calm his erratic heart, pounding against his rib cage like it’s trying to burst out of his chest

his cheeks and ears would be so red and hot from the flush that came and rose from his neck

and he would try to play it off like it suddenly got hot in the fifteen minutes they’ve been inside

clearing his throat, lance would try to go back to coloring but would stop because he can feel eyes on him

he’d look up to see if they were keith’s but would ultimately find that they are not keith’s

but instead hunk’s, pidge’s, and shiro’s, the three of them staring and smirking at lance who’s been pining so hard from far away

and lance would clear his throat and pretend he had something on his face, wiping his cheek and grabbing his vanilla milkshake and setting it right in front of his face to cool him down

when the food comes, keith will let allura and coran slide into the booth first and sit down so he would be directly across from lance

their friends would engage in small talk as they eat, talking about how good their food is or something else that would pop into their minds

keith would eat his burger and fries in silence, only looking up if someone were to mention or call his name

and lance would do the same, too engaged in dipping his hot, salty fries into his creamy milkshake to pay attention to the conversations going on

but something would catch his attention

a feeling

he can feel eyes on him again

and he would look over to hunk and pidge and shiro, who are all talking over each other all at once

he would look to allura and coran, who are listening and stuffing their faces

and then those piercing blue eyes would look up and across from him

and find those gorgeous violet eyes on him like the skin on his bones

blood would rush to his cheeks but instead of looking away, lance would stare back

and watch keith turn into a flustered mess

lance would smirk and keith would present his signature frown in response

and lance would get a sudden rush of courage in his veins and push his free basket of fries towards keith, offering him some

keith would twist his bushy eyebrows up in confusion, asking lance if he’s sure

and lance would nod, shaking the basket of free fries

keith would relax his features

and smile softly at lance, reaching over his own food to take a couple of fries

something deep in lance would burn low, a feeling of satisfaction simmering within him, knowing that keith is eating his free fries because lance offered them and keith accepted

keith would shove the fries into his mouth and lance would stare shamelessly, drinking his milkshake and daydreaming once again about what it would be like to share every single basket of fries he would ever get in his life with keith

of course keith would pretend not to notice lance staring and ignore the sudden spike in his pulse or the butterflies dancing around in his stomach

and because he’s keith, he would [not so] accidentally brush his foot against lance’s underneath the table just to get a reaction out of the cuban boy

lance would jolt a little and meet eyes with keith in surprise

keith would have that same smirk on his face from when he was playing pinball

and lance would reciprocate the gesture, paying no mind to the voice in the back of his head giving him hope

he would simply smirk back, and quirk his eyebrow in a challenge

welcome the the fifteenth fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

okay. i am so desperately obsessed with this fic, i was obsessed with it the first time i read it and im obsessed with it now. and yes i know i did all hiuythn fics last week and i promise i wont this week. BUT i have a set of comments associated with this fic bc it is Just That Good and so i shall present them to u now:

- literally the funniest characterization of shiro i’ve ever read. this shiro is gay and tired. this shiro unironically and frequently says “move. i’m gay” and gets away with it at the garrison. this shiro has been through A Lot and just wants to fucking retire - allura here is so so funny she’s such a badass. she’s giving “i love shiny things! like the shine of your spilled blood on the floor if you say that dumb shit one more fucking time!!” we stan a queen. - coran is a Mood. this man is desperately trying to reign in four teenagers and two young adults and just wants to go to bed and also he cares for them all so so much. ultimate dad - pidge is Mischief Personified. she is a brat and i adore her. she’s here to cause problems and by god she will succeed - hunk is so done it’s so fucking funny. “that’s literally impossible.” he’s a genius and he knows it, he’s glad to call you out on your bullshit. he doesn’t even TRY to pretend he can keep a secret and/or handle drama god what a mood - don’t even get me started on klance!! they’re so funny omg. the banter is EXQUISITE. lance and keith adore each other so much and they’re so badass. literally the coolest power couple fight scenes ever to be made, i do adore. gosh. and the ROMANCE they are so devoted to each other i’m emotional - honourable mention of lance’s legs and keith’a Soft Squishy Feelings that are mentioned so often that they’re characters. iconic. all in all, the best way to describe this series is Gay and Tired. i love it and i’m sad to see it end. i will be rereading it an embarrassing number of times. infinity/10

definitely a tie between lance and keith. lance is the biggest lee and basically asks for it, either purposefully or not, and keith, well, how else are you gonna get some smiles and laughter out of such an angsty dude

who’s the character that somehow knows everyone else’s tickle spots and reveals them to others

shiro, 100%. he’s so so so observant and would definitely know ur deepest hidden spots BUT i dont think he’d intentionally reveal them unless u upset him and he wanted to seek out revenge in some way (:<

who’s the character with one specific tickle spot that only one other person knows about

shiro’s actually got a spot right where his neck meets his shoulder that only keith knows about since shiro practically raised him and tickle fights were definitely a thing that happened between them

who’s the most likely to win gang tickle wars

keith, usually. he’s stronger and faster than most of the gang and has pretty amazing stamina considering how hard he trains on the daily, so he’d be a serious challenge to overcome. if shiro’s in the mix, then shiro wins hands down.

which character has a kink for tickling

lance, keith, shiro, and for some reason i also see this being a super deep down secret kink of kinkade’s as well

which character didn’t even know they were ticklish until another character tickled them

i feel like this is keith again lmao, growing up w/o parents or friends will deprive u of some good good tickle experiences, but that changes quickly when shiro takes him in

So I was gonna post this with the Julance drawing today, and then send it to you, but I’m not gonna be able to work on the drawing much today so it might get posted tomorrow, but I really wanted to show you what I wrote for it so…

He did that, sometimes. When the nights became a little too lonely, his jacket too hot and suffocating, his homesickness a little too prominent to deal with alone.

He used to go to Keith for these things, where they would sit on the observation deck and talk about everything and nothing. Lance talked about his family, Keith talked about what he did in the desert shack, they both talked about what it was like to lead Voltron and be the right hand, and comforted each other when the stress became too much.

But Lance couldn’t do that now. Because Keith was gone. He left the team, left Lance, broken hearted and confused.

Today was one of those nights. His jacket was too stuffy and he missed his mom’s

hugs, and his sisters teasing, and his brothers ruffling his hair. So he did what he did now, when Keith was gone.

Lance walked into the observatory, wearing a cropped red jacket as he watched the stars. He messed with his sleeves, feeling the familiar worn leather underneath his fingertips. It brought back memories, of playing with Keith’s sleeves as he talked, of holding a gloved hand in the dead of space, where no one could see them, of holding the body inside the jacket as he cried.

There was no one to hold him now. But the tears decided that wasn’t an issue, because they came anyway. He buried his head in his knees, trying to banish thoughts of violet eyes sparkling in the starlight, of warm blue eyes telling him that everything was okay, of wild blue eyes that grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the beach in Varadero, of deep blue eyes that teased him about crushes from the Garrison. He cried, and cried, and cried until he felt there were no more tears left to shed.

He clung to the jacket around him, pushing his nose into the crook of his elbow and trying to keep the smell of Keith. It wasn’t as good as a hug, but it was enough for now. Until he came back.

Because Keith would come back, even if Lance had to drag him from the Blade himself.

Lance stared at the stars, thinking about how he looked at them on Earth, how they took his breath away constantly. They still took his breath away, the stars could never get old. But now he had memories under all the star systems, pointing out a making constellations with someone who he didn’t realize he loved until it was too late. And that was the bitter thing, wasn’t it? Distance makes the heart grow fonder, they said, but they didn’t mention that it hurt more than make his heart warm.

There was a beeping to the right of Lance, and he cursed it for bothering his star gazing. Lance got up stiffly, walking towards the board.

Lance scoffed as he looked at the caller ID, seeing the Blade of Marmora. He’d stopped hoping Keith would be there, in the calls. He started hoping he wasn’t, really, because he always looked so tired. He understood, a bit, because Lance was tired, too.

He clicked the answer call button, about to berate the Marmorite that decided to call in the dead of night when he really wasn’t in the mood. Heck, he didn’t even care if it was Kolivan on the other side.

But it wasn’t Kolivan. It wasn’t what Lance was expecting at all.

He saw his eyes first, still as dazzling as the day he left. He saw his hair, longer than it was before he left but still so recognizable as the horrendous mullet it was. Lance noticed the new things, the eye bags he wore, the new, barley there scars, the way his eyes still shimmered but the glow that was usually there was dimmer.

Lance’s breath caught, eyes filling up with more tears he didn’t know he was capable of shedding.

“Keith?”

A pause. “Are you wearing my jacket?”
