“Statement of Nat… Natalie… ah, bloody hell…”

The tape recorder switched off.

This was the fifth time now that he’s stuttered on the name ‘Natalie Calliope.’ He wasn’t sure why he was having so much trouble with this statement specifically, but even in his exhausted state it was pissing him off.

He always had the slightest hint of a stutter, usually consequential from his high stress levels, but the only stress Jon was feeling right now was that he couldn’t get this damn name straight.

Too bad for Jon, he hadn’t noticed the clock on his desk was blinking 4:53 A.M. His stutter only got worse as the creases deepened beneath his eyes. However, the perfectionist in him wouldn’t let him sleep until this statement was finished. He would stay here in these damned stuffy archives until he finally got it right. Just him, the statement, and his recorder…

Or so he thought.

Just as he began his 6th try, footsteps echoed from the corridors behind him, stopping just five feet from where he sat. Maybe if he HAD noticed the time, he would’ve been scared or concerned that someone had entered the institute over 7 hours past close. But he hadn’t. In his mind, it was still 7pm. And in his mind, he was absolutely furious that another attempt was ruined.

In a frenzy, he slammed the papers down as he stood up from his desk, and looked the stranger dead in the eyes. His glasses slipped ever so slightly from his nose bridge, and despite his fit of rage he couldn’t help but nudge them back into place. He might’ve been pissed but he still needed to see who exactly he was pissed AT, after all.

“What. The hell. Do you want.”

Finally, I’m back at it again with another rp/ask blog after 3 years LMAO. Hello world I’m back 😳. Anyways, my name is Lilith! A more proper intro (including rules and tags) is pinned, so I highly recommend checking that out.

If you’re too bored or lazy to do so, this blog is based on season 1 Jonathan Sims from the horror fiction podcast The Magnus Archives. For now, Jon will stay fairly close to canon. As time goes on however, I’d love for this to derail into something different entirely.

“A situation where I’ve been flustered, you ask? I might get like that when I’m proven wrong with something, but that’s a normal reaction, isn’t it? Or-Or maybe when someone points out my… ahem, elderly appearance. I know I look older, but in all actuality I’m only 28. My looks are not my priority, per se, but that doesn’t mean I’m immune to insults.” As if on cue, he brushed aside a strand of greying hair that had fallen past his line of sight.

He went silent, taking a moment to think. “I’m… trying my best to think of an interesting time where I’ve been flustered. I know that you’re expecting something unique. I mean, that’s why you asked, after all. But in general, I really don’t get that way. I’m not an emotional person.”

But there’s one instance where Jon can’t help but get flustered. And to his utter dismay, it seems to follow him through the institute’s halls.

It’s always just around the corridor’s bend, with short, ginger hair, and eyes the same blue as an unending, cloudless sky: Jon’s fellow coworker, Martin K. Blackwood. Jon would hate to admit how accustomed he’s already grown to his company in the few days he’s held this new position, but it’s true.

Jon can claim he hates him all he wants, insult him even. Hell, he has tried everything from giving himself the “ick”, to avoiding Martin’s general presence. But whenever he happens to enter the same room, there’s no denying that split-second glint in his eyes before he tears himself away.

Nor could he defend his flush whenever he’s brought a cup of tea. It’s a simple gesture, simple enough to be interpreted as a random intern’s task that got somehow pushed to Martin. But to him, it’s deeper. It makes him feel something, it lets him feel seen. He just can’t help it, he’s drawn like a moth to an all-seeing flame.

But of course asking Jon, he’s just not ‘one to get flustered.’ He’s not that sort of guy. Not in the slightest.

“…No, I’m sorry. I can’t think of anything at all. I wish I could give you something worth your time.”

well, I suppose this is an "introduction post." though I never imagined a Tumblr would become a part of being the head archivist (I strongly doubt that Gertrude ever had one), I have been informed it would be good to connect with the community and answer any questions there may be.

hear me out - tma (the magnus archives) pixel game

I'm not a good pixel artist nor experienced game coder, but I do feel like if I continue learning those sort of hobbies a magnus archives game would be pretty epic. I do have some experience on Scratch, so that could also work if I made some art and then put it in there. Also I do know there's a rp game coming up (which I totally didn't just figure out) but this is just my ideas for a single-player game.

in my opinion it'd be pretty cool to see jon going around solving puzzles with the help of various avatars and the archival assistants, and maybe even some combat ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (i keep envisioning it as pokemon style lol, or other metroidvania style :D)

for the whole statement thing, there could be 'side quests' or people who need your help getting rid of the entity that's stalking them? I haven't fully fleshed out the idea (wink wink) but it should definitely have something about statements and statement givers.

it could follow the canon timeline or a completely different AU, or you could even choose your characters (or change them, like Omori kinda), and each has their own ability that relates to the entity they serve. For example, Martin or Peter could go invisible (the lonely), Melanie could have a combat boost or something (the slaughter), and Daisy could transform into a wolf or dog for reasons (the hunt).

It could be a 'choose your story' sorta style, where you make a character and there are multiple endings depending on your choices. I figured the character designs would be made by what the majority of the fandom sees the characters as, but the layout of the institute would also have to be thought out but it would hopefully be open world.

Oh oh oh - what if you could romance different assistants :o? This is less likely but sorta like a Hades style, where the more tasks you complete the more they help you? If you were an OC, you could probably romance any of them (pg-13 guys), but if you played as Jon it'd probably be martin, tim, and maybe a few others.

Maybe like Omori or Stardew Valley in terms of style (i promise those are not the only pixel games I know-)?? Metroidvania action adventure stylish, but simplified. Like, Jon would need a specific keycard or something to go to another floor, or enhance his Eye abilities to do learn specific.

I would love to start learning pixel art and could do 'fake screenshots' if this got enough attention and/or people wanted to see that sorta stuff. I know my art isn't the best (😅) but this would be a fun project that I could actually devote myself to, though it would take a lot of time. I think if I do do this, I'd have to git gud (double wink) at the pixel style and then get more advanced at Scratch coding.
