Strangers in the night - Scarlett Johansson x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
Part 16:
Date night for the Avengers?
Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson step out to dinner with the Cole sisters. Evans and the Civil Rights lawyer, Léa Cole went public with their relationship a couple of months ago and now they are hanging out with two of Hollywood’s highest-grossing actresses. Johansson seems to be spending her week in Los Angeles as Y/n Cole is shooting her new movie Bombshell. The two have been getting close this year, making multiple public appearances together. The Black Widow actress is set to star in Cole’s first directing film, Jojo Rabbit later this year. Sources say: “They enjoy each other’s company a lot. Y/n is a big fan of Scarlett’s work and they easily bond over their shared passion. Scarlett enjoys how exciting and new Y/n’s approach to the comedic history script is and both of them enjoy working together already.” The two’s relationship seems to be as private as possible. Maybe there’s more to it than we see.
I mean it’s not that bad. The last sentence is maybe the worst but other than that, there’s nothing wrong with it.
***
“So, you’re leaving for Europe, right?” Ellen asked from the opposite chair from me. “Yes, that’s the plan. But I’m gonna jump back home for just a couple of days before that,” I said. “Where exactly in Europe though?” “Prague in the Czech Republic. Very beautiful city.” “And are you nervous? I mean this is your first directing job. How are you feeling about that?” “I’m nervous of course, but mostly I’m expected. Taika is a very good friend of mine and it feels much easier to start all this with someone like him by my side. And of course the amazing actors on the cast, it’s really a privilege to start this journey with amazing people.” “Speaks of the actors in the movie,” Oh no, there we go. “Scarlett.” She said and I nodded. “You’ve been hanging out a lot recently, how’s that going?” She asked with a smile. She seems genuine. “Great, we’ve been going over the script a lot, preparing for shooting. She’s an awesome person, so yeah we’re friends.”
***
“Y/n,” Scarlett called out from the kitchen. “Yup,” I answered. “Come here for a moment.” I got up and walked to her. She was just fixing up some quick dinner while I dealt with some late stuff for the traveling stuff and our arrival, accommodation for the whole staff, and things like that.
“What’s up?” I stood next to her, watching as she moved around. “I was thinking…” she started and suddenly I got nervous. Don’t know why, I just did. “Yeah?” I cleared my throat and glanced at her face, looking for any sign of what she’d say. “And I thought maybe we could share an apartment while we’re there. I mean the staff and everyone wouldn’t think anything of it, but if they do, honestly I don’t care. And it could be fun, Rose will be there too, and I’m sure she’d be happy too.”
I smiled so widely, my face started to hurt after a while. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her and the way how casually she just said that. “I would love that. I’m just saying Rose and I will gang up against you,” I smirked and she laughed. Her cheeks rounded and slowly turned a shade of pink. “Oh I’m sure you will,” she looked at me after she turned off the stove.
Her light eyes were lit by the kitchen lights, while also showing the shadow of her nose on her left cheek. She had her glasses on which I adored so much. Her hair slicked back roughly, and her white shirt hung off her shoulder loosely.
“Scarlett, I love you.”
I couldn’t hold back. I just couldn’t. I love her. With every fiber of my body. She has it all. She makes me laugh when I feel the most dull, she brings me joy after a long day. Her thoughts make me wonder, while also fascinated. Her genuine laugh after the worst joke I made is my proudest moment of the day.
“And I love you,” her words felt like fresh air after coming up from under the water. That smile on her face is something I will never ever forget. She is different from everyone who I’ve dated before and it is probably the biggest blessing.
I pulled her into the most emotional kiss we probably shared so far. My hands on her cheeks and hers around my waist, holding me close. I had goosebumps from all the love I felt in that moment and I’ve never wanted to leave that moment. It was heaven on earth.
***
Telling our friends I think was the best idea in this time of our relationship because it was really going strong. Everyone was so happy and supportive which was the best feeling ever. I felt very secure in my place and so did Scarlett and it was so easy to share our love. We already talked about telling our families, and I felt really happy and at ease.
This week though, I fly out to Prague with Taika first then the cast joins us next week. I packed everything last night and I was ready to go.
The city was a dream. It was a whole different world than New York and I was very excited to explore all this. I settled into our temporary apartment and sent Scarlett pictures of the place, which by the way looked fantastic.
Taika and I started preparing everything. We got the table read ready for next week, checked the filming locations one more time, got to know Prague a little and it was quickly next week when everyone arrived.
***
“Y/n!” Rose started running as soon as she touched the ground. Stepping out of the car Scarlett was quick to notice me waiting for them in front of the apartment building. Her adorable smile was one of the highlights of the day.
“Careful there,” I called out to the little girl, and in a second she jumped into my arms. “Heeey,” I caught her and hugged her close. “I missed you, honey,” I kissed the side of her head and pulled away to see her face. Her blonde hair was cutely curled with a flowery clip attached. “I missed you too.” Although I noticed a little scar on her nose. “What happened to your nose, Rosey? Did you bump your nose?” I asked brushing a little piece of hair out of her face.
“I fell in school. We were playing,” she said while holding onto my hand. She is the cutest person. “Yeah, did you cry?” I asked softly and she shook her head and I dramatically gasped. “You didn’t?” “Big girls don’t cry,” she said proudly and I smiled. “You are a big girl, huh?” I stood up and then picked her up, turning to her mother.
I embraced her with a tight hold and let out a relieved sigh as soon as she wrapped an arm around me. “Hi baby,” her delicate whisper made me smile, and leaned my head against hers. “Hi,” I simply said since Rose was very close to me to hear anything.
“Should we check out your room, big girl?” I asked Rose and she smiled widely and nodded. “Let’s go then.”
***
The next day we got to the table read and I was nervous to talk in front of everyone. Taika and I sat in the front middle, and all the actors were around the long tables. Scripts, water, and nameplates were strictly placed for everyone. Once everyone settled down Taika looked at me with a reassuring smile. “I’ll start. Don’t be nervous though,” he patted my shoulder and stood up.
He made everyone laugh and honestly, it was worse going after him. I felt the pressure. I nervously looked around and my eyes quickly found Scarlett who was already looking at me. She sent me a soft smile and a small nod. Okay, so it’s visible that I’m freaking the fuck out.
The next thing I know, Taika just sat down and everyone was waiting for me. Okay, just look confident.
I stood up and cleared my throat before smiling lightly. “Hello everyone. I hope everyone got to settle in nicely and got to get rid of jet lag, if you did I’m jealous,” the room chuckled or at least smiled. “I’m very excited for all of us to work together, I think we all have very great opportunities to learn from each other. Taika and I worked on this for a while and it means the world to us that it finally comes alive and we couldn’t have imagined it better, thanks to you. And honestly, I just wanted to say thank you for being a part of our project. I hope you guys will have fun and enjoy this amazing city. And thank you again,” I let out a sigh and not gonna lie I got emotional a little bit from this.
I haven’t really realized what we’ve been doing for years with Taika. It is finally coming alive and I can barely process it. It’s an indescribable feeling.
***
Later that day, the whole cast was set to go out to dinner to get to know each other better.
“It wasn’t that bad right? My speech. Did I look scared as hell? I think I was even crying while talking,” I rented while also doing my makeup. Scar was getting Rose ready since she was already done.
“It was great. You looked relaxed honestly. It seemed like you knew what you wanted to say and everyone saw how grateful and excited you were. It was cute,” she said. “From your perspective maybe.” “From everyone's perspective. It was great, believe me.”
***
Weeks passed and I was having the time of my life. Directing was something that I enjoyed so much. It was a lot of work, yes but I loved every second of it.
“Let’s go from the top. Roman, you do what you did so far, it’s amazing buddy,” I smiled at him and he did too. “Thank you.”
“Alright, ready everyone?” I looked at Scarlett and she nodded, then at the crew and when it was settled I turned back. “Action!”
Once the cameras started rolling, Scarlett was unbothered by the outside world. Seeing her work just made me more in love with her. She was so passionate about it and it was amazing to see her do this.
***
Opening the door as quietly as possible, I slipped into the apartment like a fucking ninja. But then I saw the kitchen lights lit.
Taking off my shoes I slipped further into the flat. “Scar?” I whispered and the next second Scarlett’s popped out in the dim lights from the kitchen. “You’re home late,” she whispered, a sad smile on her face. I guess I look tired.
Dragging myself to the kitchen, I reached for my girlfriend, holding onto her hand first and then hugging her. “Why are you still up?” I mumbled with my eyes closed, my head resting on her shoulder. “I was learning lines and I couldn’t sleep,” she said. Her speaking vibrated off of her skin. “You okay?” I lifted my head and she nodded with a smile. “Of course, just tired that’s it,” she gave a kiss on my head and let me go. “You want something to eat? We had takeout for dinner, I got you some in case you’d be hungry,” Scarlett moved to the fridge. “I just want to sleep,” I yawned, waning against the counter. “Let’s go then.” “I’m gonna shower though,” I stood straight on my feet and made my way to the bathroom, but before that, I glanced into Rose’s room and saw her fast asleep in her bed.
Taking a shower I was moving so slowly but I managed to get into my pajamas after it. Scar was already in bed, reading her script and highlighting things with a pink marker. “I feel like my brain is not working,” I scooted into the bed, pulling the covers up until my neck, turning towards Scarlett. “You’re in tomorrow?” She asked. “Not until lunch,” I sighed. “Then you sleep until then, you’re gonna exhaust yourself,” with one more soft kiss on my lips, she put the script aside and turned off the light. As soon as she settled in, I cuddled up to her side. “Sleep well baby,” her arms wrapped around me. “You too, I love you.” “And I love you.”

another thing worth noting in Thor: Love & Thunder
‼️‼️‼️ and SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ANYONE WHO HASN’T SEEN IT YET ‼️‼️‼️‼️
….
….
….
is Taika’s love and respect for children coming through in the movie!! The scene with all of the children absorbing some of Thor’s powers and fighting the monsters was so beautiful. If anyone has seen Taika’s other works, this just makes so much sense. From his first movie Boy, to Hunt for the Wilderpeople, to his big hit with Jojo Rabbit, Taika has always and probably will always write children as beings with great nuance, creativity, and agency. He has a really magical way of capturing childhood as an experience, on so many different levels and for different kinds of kids. And so it’s only fitting to see him allow the kids in this movie to not just be props for Thor’s story, but to show that they have some fight in them too and can really be fierce and brave. Not only that, but they were fighting monsters that were created by Chris and Taika’s kids no less!! And they were so terrifying, this just goes to show that when you actually listen to children for one minute, when you see their imagination and creativity and wildness and say “there is something to this” you can actually create something beautiful— or, in this case, really damn terrifying!

hi idk how familiar you are with stardew valley gameplay (i am autistic about it and have put in 500+ hours) so feel free to answer these to the best of your ability
what's milo's overall pace like, and how much does he care about progression within the first two years of a run? any crops he particularly likes using? does he prefer cultivating crops or raising animals, or does he like them equally? how good is he at each of the main 5 skills (farming, foraging, fishing, mining, combat)? any villagers he particularly likes? how much does he care about the dating and marriage aspect, and if he does, favorite bachelor/ette? what's he think of krobus? i'm guessing he's the kind of guy to go community center route on every run, but what's he think of joja? what about pierre? the junimos? anything else noteworthy on how he plays the game?
these questions are mostly directed at pre milo but feel free to answer for violence/manipulation if applicable
Hello! I haven’t played Stardew valley in a while (I have however been into Rune Factory and Potion Permit), but I will try to answer your questions.
Milo I think plays Stardew mostly to relax, so he doesn’t stress too much about progression. I think he likes crops that have trellises like grapes, hopps and green beans because he likes the way they look. Otherwise, I think he will plant mostly anything.
He likes raising animals more. I imagine has a bunch of rabbits and names each one of them. He gets sad when he has to sell them. Probably makes little plushies out of them as well when he knits/sews.
I think he’s the best at farming and foraging. Then mining and fishing. He doesn’t like combat too much because he doesn’t like the sound the insect monsters make. If he has to go down there, he tries to go as fast as possible.
I think he likes Evelyn. He likes that she makes him cookies and is kind. I think he would also like George but it might take a bit to warm up to him.
As a romantic, I think he would like the dating aspect. For bachelors, I think he’d like Shane and Sebastian. Shane mostly because he’d probably feel bad about him getting drunk and he likes that he can get blue chickens. Sebastian, he would probably think is very cool and he likes the little frog event that happens. For bachelorettes, I think Emily and Abigail. Emily is probably pretty obvious since she likes making clothes and Milo likes hand crafts, so it kind of just fits. Similar to Sebastian, he’d probably think Abigail is very cool and wishes he could use a sword like her.
He thinks krobus is pretty cute. Would maybe try to make a plush or sew him on something. Definitely community center. Feels kind of wary of jojo mart. Seems okay with Pierre, though is kind of concerned when he doesn’t want to show his wife his stash. Loves junimos. Thinks they’re adorable. I think also he would spend a lot of time decorating his house. It will be filled with a lot of plushies that’s for sure.
Violence and Manipulation probably don’t play as much, but I don’t think their taste would change all that much from Pre Milo.
Phew that was a lot. I had to do some research since it really has been a while since I played stardew.

Im sorry Minnie, this is a long one but I need to discuss with someone my thoughts about Seb’s latest casting as Trump.
The only way I’m seeing this work out is if they lean heavily into the comedy aspect of a dramatic comedy. I don’t know if you’ve seen Taika W’s Jojo Rabbit, but they make Hitler seem completely ridiculous.
If they don’t, I think it’s a serious ( & potentially dangerous mistake). Because no matter how many bad things they show the character doing, he will still seem aspirational to some & sympathetic to most. Look at movies like The wolf of Wall Street where Leo DiCaprio played Jordan Belfort - a categorically awful person- but you come away from watching that movie thinking what a badass or feeling sympathy for him. Look at Pam&Tommy, Sebastian himself made a sexist, wife beater with anger issues seem likeable, yes he’s troubled & clearly has issues, but you don’t hate him. But at least Tommy & Jordan are currently out of the spotlight aren’t politicians.
Imagine if they announced that Ryan Gosling was playing young Putin, we’d all be rightly horrified. It’s the same thing, you shouldn’t be giving unnecessary attention to current political figures. Trumps running for president ffs
If this is anything but a straight satire then I really hope as a fandom we can put our love of Seb aside and not give this narcissistic man a spotlight . I can just see Trump at rallies bragging that he’s getting a movie made about him and they’ve hired a good looking young actor to play him. It makes me feel ill.
Hi there, anon. Thanks for your ask. I'll be honest: I share your concerns. I'm not thrilled about this casting news at all. I heard some rumours to this effect on Tuesday but I still hoped it might not be about Sebastian's project, but apparently it is.
Fortunately, all signs point to this movie being critical of Trump, and not at all in support of him, but even if that's the case, the concerns you raise are still valid. However sure I am that Sebastian would never have any part in any Trump propaganda, and that he sees this as an opportunity to work with people he admires and tell a good story, which additionally criticises Trump, I still wish he hadn't taken this part. I personally agree that the less attention given to that cretin the better. Trump does NOT need any more publicity, good or bad. And the timing of this project is worrying too, imo.
I personally have no desire to see a movie about Trump - I already know everything I need to know about him as well as how I feel about him - and I have no desire to see Sebastian play Trump and forever associate the two. Even though I'm sure they'll 'uglify' him for this part, Sebastian is still Sebastian (i.e. charming and likeable irl), which I think is an issue in this case.
So as things stand now, I don't think I'll be seeing this movie when it comes out. We'll have to wait and see if perhaps it might turn out to be heavily satirical or something, but I'm not sure it will be. Only time will tell, I guess. Let's hope Sebastian knows what he's doing with this one, for all of our sakes, but for his own as well.

The Dialectical Humanism of Big-Ass Robots: An Intro
“There’s a deep, earnest seriousness to most mecha shows (especially within the “real robot” subgenre) that implores the audience to grapple with intricate ideas and themes drawn from philosophers like Aristotle, Nietzche, and Rousseau, oftentimes complete with allegorical mouthpieces for competing ideologies.”
My high school students always lose their shit when I tell them that I, Coach Werner, also watch anime. I kinda feel bad about it. By now, I know I’ll see the excitement die from their eyes little by little as they pepper me with questions, searching for a connection with show after show after show.
“Coach, have you seen Jojo?”
“Nope.”
“What about DBZ or Naruto?”
“Not since before you were born.”
“Attack on Titan? Utena? Tokyo Ghoul?”
“Not yet, though they’re on my list.”
“The fuck Coach? I thought you said you watch anime!”
When I tell them I mostly watch mecha, they get confused. After I explain that mecha are the ones with jumbo-sized robots, they groan. I’ve even had one kid say that didn’t count. As a general rule, I try to not let the opinions of 15 year olds hurt my feelings; I only docked his grade a couple points.
Tumblr media
Whatever my students may think, oversized anthropomorphized robots have fascinated me since I was a kid. Over the years, as I’ve revisited shows from my youth and found new mechanized, cel shaded rabbit holes to tumble down, I’ve tried to figure out what exactly was so appealing about the genre. There’s definitely a bit of wish fulfillment, a sorta kaiju-sized power fantasy, sure, but that’s not all of it. Same with intricate sci-fi world building, and of course the thrill of pew-pew dogfights and beam saber duels. But none of those alone seemed to account for the whole thing. They’re all fun set dressing, definitely worth a watch on their own but not enough, I don’t think, to capture my imagination for nearly a quarter of a century.
This series, The Dialectical Humanism of Big-Ass Robots, started off as a rambling, borderline incoherent and definitely substance enhanced diatribe that tried to explain how excited I was for the first episodes of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury. It feels right, though, both the name and the bigger through line.
There’s a deep, earnest seriousness to most mecha shows (especially within the “real robot” subgenre) that implores the audience to grapple with intricate ideas and themes drawn from philosophers like Aristotle, Nietzche, and Rousseau, oftentimes complete with allegorical mouthpieces for competing ideologies. There’s also the slightly goofy and always physics-defying “rule of cool” concepts of the robots themselves–I mean, who doesn’t want to see a boom cannon with angel wings, or a crucified rage monster, or transforming karaoke jets?–that can easily be laughed off as a kid’s cartoon. Any foolhardy (read: hubristic and dumbasstic) attempt to try to find unifying threads within such a wide and varied genre has to address both of those tendencies. Here, friend, you will find one such foolhardy attempt.
Tumblr media
Mecha anime, more than any other subgenre, has a fundamental tension summarized by two infuriatingly simultaneous, contradictory truths:
Anthropomorphized mechs bring out the best in humanity, allowing us to overcome our flaws and leap forward into a better future.
Anthropomorphized mechs feed into the worst traits of humanity, allowing us to destroy ourselves in new and technologically advanced ways.
Those two overwhelmingly common truths, when taken together, can be summarized in fancy philosophy jargon with just two words: dialectical humanism.
Dialectics is a concept pioneered (in the West, at least) by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel during the late 18th and early 19th century. There’s literally a whole field of study called “Hegelian Dialectics” that we’ll touch on from time to time, but the main thing to know is that two mutually exclusive and contradictory ideas are often both true at the same time.
Humanism has a long, fraught history, but the most common Western interpretations stem from Enlightenment-era ideals. Essentially, humanism boils down to the belief that humankind can progress beyond its animalistic nature through a combination of empathy and rational thinking. Again, we’ll be touching on a whole slew of humanist thinkers throughout this series.
Tumblr media
So that’s The Dialectical Humanism of Big-Ass Robots. I feel like mecha shows–from Astro Boy to Zeta Gundam, and almost everything in between–play with this dialectic, where the mechs themselves represent humanity’s ultimate destruction and ultimate salvation simultaneously. Sometimes we struggle to survive, sometimes we overcome and thrive, and sometimes we find ourselves transformed into an ocean of pink goo.
In this series, we’ll look at:
Magical Newtype Bullshit and radical empathy
Depression, memory, and trauma, and why Shinji can’t just get in the fucking robot
The power of music (and love, hope, and propaganda) in a transforming space city
And much, much more.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go watch a Tanuki pilot a Gundam.

Papa Louie Concept pt. 1: The Introduction to Papa's Roadkillaria
pt.2
so i've had an idea
Tumblr media
Deep in the mountains of the Flipverse is a small dive by a side road called Papa's Roadkillaria. The place has more-or-less been neglected by Papa as of late. But, much to the dismay of Pally and Rollie, he's revisiting it once more!
So, essentially, Pally/Rollie/CW broke down in the middle of nowhere, got chased on foot by Papa (in disguise) into the Roadkillaria, where they now have to work to pay to fix up their car.
THE FOOD:
So, we're gonna be making stews with meat from animals commonly struck on the road, so stuff like:
Opossum
Deer
Bear
Badger
Raccoon
Squirrel
Rat
and Rabbit
The stations are as follows:
Order -> Build (where meat, broth, and add-ins are selected) -> Heat (idk really what the real word for making soup is called, so this is a stand in) -> Extras (where stuff like sides and drinks (?) are chosen, sorta like in Hot Doggeria)
Now, the meat is only OCCASIONALLY from the road, so don't worry :]
THE CLOSERS:
Johnny (Monday) Xandra (Tuesday) Rico (Wednesday) Quinn (Thursday) Chester (Friday) Akari (Saturday) Jojo (Sunday)
THE HOLIDAYS: July: Starlight BBQ (Unlocked with Boomer) August: Groovstock (Unlocked with Zoe) BavariaFest (Unlocked with Mayor Mallow) September: BavariaFest (Unlocked with Mayor Mallow) October: Halloween (Unlocked with Willow) November: Thanksgiving (Unlocked with Sienna) December: Christmas (Unlocked with Santa (hate that mf)) January: New Years (Unlocked with Xolo) February: Valentine's Day (bc what's more loving than a bowl of rat soup <3 /s) (Unlocked with Scarlett) March: St. Patrick's Day (Unlocked with Mary) April: Easter (Unlocked with Cletus) May: Onion Fest (Unlocked with Sarge Fan) June: Summer Luau (Unlocked with Kahuna)
OTHER:
heh, i can imagine the people at the beginning of the day screen not cheering, but walking in with suspicion

Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Tumblr media
Jojo Rabbit walks a delicate line. One scene is laugh-out-loud, darkly comedic. The next is soul-crushing. When you look at it on paper, it shouldn’t work. On the screen, it’s memorable, tender, hilarious and insightful - a picture like none other. There are some who will find it tasteless but for the rest, it's one you'll be compelled to revisit.
In the final years of WWII, Ten-year-old Johannes “Jojo” Betzler (Roman Griffin Davis) dreams of serving in Nazi Germany's army like his absent father. While at Hitler Youth Camp, Jojo follows the advice of his imaginary best friend, a child’s rendition of Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi). After an accident cripples him, he is sent back home. There, he discovers his mother (Scarlett Johansson) is harbouring a Jewish teenaged girl (Thomasin McKenzie).
This film excels at exposing the hypocrisy of the propaganda necessary to keep the Nazi machine (and similar systems) going. Jojo is only a child and even he has difficulty understanding how Elsa can be a demonic creature with horns and wings that drinks blood and can mind control good German boys, is cripplingly fascinated with shiny things and also an enemy the Nazis will easily eliminate. To him, she looks just like a normal girl. None of the interactions they have confirm her as dangerous.
The characters of Elsa, Jojo and his mother are all played relatively straight. Everyone else is a living contradiction. Rebel Wilson plays Fräulein Rahm. Despite being unmarried, she boasts having given birth to 18 children for Germany. How that’s possible, who knows. Her unreleting enthusiasm for the Nazi cause is bizarre considering her job at the Hitler Youth camp is to teach the girls there to dress wounds, take care of the injured… and have children. Not particularly exciting compared to the boys, who get to play with live munitions and enjoy the outdoors. The next noteworthy contradiction within the film is Nazi Germany’s attitude towards children. We’re told they’re the future, that the world will belong to them but as the tide of war shifts, we see the kids become be extremely disposable in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it bit of off-sceen gruesomeness. The whole thing is topped by Taika Waititi’s portrayal of Hitler. Self-described as a Polynesian Jew, even if Waititi wasn’t directing and writing, his casting would feel like a smart, subversive inside joke. As the film begins, this Adolf Hitler is Jojo’s best friend. Once the boy starts questioning what the authorities have been feeding him, Hitler becomes increasingly hostile and comical. He’s more “so pathetic you’re glad you can laugh at him” than “funny because it’s so wrong to see Hitler doing this” kind of funny.
Lest you think this film does not take what happened during WWII seriously, understand that key scenes make you forget all about the fanciful imagination of Jojo’s world and bring you back to reality. The scenes with him and his mother, for example, are surprisingly grounded. You can feel the exhasperation Rosie must feel as her son makes all of these statements about Adolf Hitler, the Nazi cause, Jews and Germany. How frustrating it must be for her to endure what she hears. She could tell Jojo what the truth is, but he's a child. He doesn't understand what's really going on and doesn't understand that admitting the truth out loud could have serious consequences.
Though there are some big, memorable laughs within Jojo Rabbit, the dramatic revelations are so sobering that the drama/comedy split doesn't feel like it's down the middle. Said revelations only come in during the latter half of the movie, however, so they hit you when you least expect it - and hit you hard. This is not the kind of movie you easily forget precisely because it makes bold, bizarre-sounding choices. Though there is a chance you'll be so off-put by "Jojo Rabbit" that it won't be your cup of tea, every move that's being made has been carefully considered and the themes used throughout make it a picture I don't hesitate to recommend. (February 10, 2023)

Hi, Gina. Can I please rant in your asks? I might be a complete idiot, but the more i look on the timeline (literal timeline, not a social media one) the more i come to one conclusion.
So Syco dies in 2020. Louis greets us with «decided to part ways» tweet, but the parting ways is useless, company is already dead. All the rights go to (presumably) Sony. Sony doesn’t give a fuck about Louis. He’s not profitable. I mean in our little community he’s the center of the world, but in the real world not so much.
But what they do care about is Harry. Harry is their golden goose for now and for many more years to come. The more Louis flaunts with huge «H» on his chest and changes the Spotify canvas to Harry’s tattoos, the more people might believe that Larry Stylinson rumours (gasp!) might be true.
The company that holds the rights can prohibit all recording and publishing activity altogether. We’ve seen it with JoJo. We’ve seen it with Kesha. We’ve seen it with Raye. And probably with hundreds more, that we know nothing about (like what happened to Alexis Jordan?). So Louis is given a simple choice: he shuts down all the rumours by himself or Walls will be his last album.
So that’s when OATV production and the Big Freddy Push begins.
We all screaming that everything he did in the last two years doesn’t make sense. But it’s because it simply doesn’t. We’ve been watching this guy for the ten years prior. And there’s no fucking way in hell i’m gonna believe that one nice Wednesday morning in the beginning of 2021 Louis Tomlinson woke up, yawned and said: «Well, why don’t I start mentioning my fake son everywhere, because that’s the kind a person i am now.»
If he’s doing it, he’s either gaining something big from it, or at least not losing something big from it. And what is bigger than the simple opportunity to make music?
And if the question is why his promo so shit and what audience he’s targeting, then the answer is - he’s not promoting his music, he’s promoting the fact that Harry Styles is not, in fact, gay.
I hope it does make sense. And also I love you, Gina. Thank you for being the voice of reason in this fandom. (And sorry for my English, I did my best 😖)
Hi darling. Your English is absolutely fine. No apologies needed!
As for your thoughts… I do think there’s some plausibility in your theories. Although, Louis isn’t the main reason people think H is queer. He’s doing a pretty good job of making people question it, all on his own. TBH, most of his new fans probably have never heard of Louis unless they already are wondering about Harry’s sexuality go search through Google and stumble on Larry. And even then they would have to already be open to it to really fall down the rabbit hole to get past all the denials and beards and the idea that larries are crazy.
I’m not saying Sony wouldn’t go to those lengths, but it seems like blowing out a candle when there’s a brush fire around the corner.
Anyway, I don’t think Louis would have been allowed to part ways with Syco/Sony without them getting something out of it. God knows what deal he made, but I’m sure Sony is more ruthless than we can imagine.

Ocassionally thought about these two and I feel the perfect way to describe their thing is that it's going nowhere but it ain't going away anytime either? Pretty amusing tbh 🤠 also oddly cute?
And even though I love this pairing to death everytime i draw them together i just can't imagine them being actually romantic but somewhere between funny shenanigans and awkward slightly lovey-dovey gestures
Got the quotes from Jojo Rabbit btw :D

New Blog, Who dis?!?
After lurking around on Ao3 for ages, I have finally decided to create a blog of my own where I can post fanarts of my favorite characters, OCs, fanfics and also drawings relating to my own fic, Ride or Die. In other words, this place is going to be my doodle dump!
See, I have a lot of thoughts and feelings regarding Jojo and they gotta go somewhere so here I am. Like these days I am obssessed with a fic called Ride of the Valkyrie written by Swallowedteeth where the Steel Ball Run race takes place in the 1970s(please go read it). This AU is so good and the writing is so brilliant that I ended up going down a rabbit hole of 70s fashion on Pinterest and made a bunch of doodles of Johnny, Gyro and Diego in various 70s inspired outfits.
Tumblr media
For example, on my first try I imagine Johnny would wear a jumpsuit in this AU so I tried adapting his canon outfit as closely as possible to something men wore in the 70s. But in my opinion, I think it just ended up looking the same as what he wore in canon. Gyro especially looks unchanged even though the shirt hes wearing is straight from a photo I found of a man in the 70s!
Hmm, next time I'm going to try and rip the designs straight from a 70s catalogue so they look more period accurate.

Strangers in the night - Scarlett Johansson x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
Part 17:
*third person pov*
Mid July, the sun shining on the pavement. People moving around with portable wardrobes, tents set up for hair and makeup, all this on the streets of Prague.
Cameras standing in a line, looking right at the center of the town. The buildings looked so bright but the picture just looked sad and empty of life.
Taika and Y/n stood behind the cameras, surrounded by monitors, talking over the next scene. Coffee in both their hands, headphones resting around Y/n’s neck as she said in her director chair. Hair tied back into a tight bun, trying to hide the hair that she wasn’t able to wash in a week. Although she looked fresh and very put together, she was exhausted. She covered up the dark circles under her eyes with light makeup and the smile was a constant on her face.
Scarlett was sitting in her makeup chair, getting the final touches from the makeup artist. Her eyes were on her girlfriend through the mirror watching as she was giving out orders to the set designers and camera men. Y/n was very different on set than she was at home. At work, she looked confident and sure of her voice and job, looking like a real professional who’s been doing this for years. But at home, in the safety of their little bubble, she was very insecure and fearful of the work she’s been doing. Scarlett couldn’t tell her enough how amazing she was at her job and that she had nothing to worry about. Sometimes Y/n just went with the flow and accepted her girlfriend’s praises and even believed them, which made her calmer at work. Mostly she just acted like she was putting up this front but in reality, she was scared of every little move she made on her own set.
“She’s doing pretty well so far,” the makeup artist’s voice brought Scarlett out of her daydream. “What?” “Y/n. She’s doing a great job,” repeated the woman. “Oh yeah, she’s awesome.” The actress hid her smile and the blush that crept up her cheeks.
Filming scene by scene, everyone knew that this movie was something that will be very well put together. Y/n has shown great potential at directing and producing, which she obviously didn’t feel but everyone else did.
Weeks went by and there was less and less filming needed and it all seemed very real for the young director. Taika was always there to remind Y/n that she has been doing incredible. But she always said, “We’ll see when it comes out.” She was right but so was Taika.
As the last two weeks of shooting rolled around, the marketing team organized an interview/behind-the-scenes video for the cast. The actors and directors each shared their thoughts on the filming and their cast mates and crew.

Inside Jojo Rabbit - Behind the scenesnes
“The first time we thought about the movie, we were sure we wanted this to be funny. And while writing the script, we didn’t know how far we should take this comedic relief, so we took it the furthest we could.” Shared Y/n Cole, director and writer of the movie.
Taika Waititi as Imaginary Adolf:
“Through the whole writing process, I always had Taika in mind for Hitler’s role. Of course not because they are so similar, but because I couldn’t imagine someone else being so… accepting of this role and taking it seriously, in an acting way. It’s a very complex character and Taika is the only one I think who understands the purpose of this figure. When you play a character so questionable or any kind of character, as an actor you have to lose any judgment to play them and he was able to create this whole other person with his acting but also be authentic towards the character,” said Y/n.
Scarlett Johansson as Rosie Betzler:
“Scarlett’s screen test was the only one I could not be present at because I was working, but Taika called me right after she was done. The only thing he said on the phone was, I think I just hired Scarlett Johansson as Rosie and you’re gonna love her so much. Okay, bye. I have to go. And he hung up. Then as pre-production rolled in, and then the table read, seeing Scarlett and Roman interact and act out the scenes, I was so happy that she was the one for this role because she’s the kind of person who takes the role and cherishes it with care and it fits her so well.”
“When we were talking about her role, it was clear that this type of comedic but also serious and responsible mother character was new in her career but not in her everyday life. And when at specific scenes the actors are free to improvise, she’s so quick and witty with her parts and I think that’s definitely a relief for us that we have actors who are incredibly professional but also able to contribute to the creative process if that makes sense.”
Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo Betzler.
“I was very excited about this role and the casting of it but also terrified. But when we met Roman, all my worries disappeared. The whole screen test was about 25 minutes, and he did not take his eyes off Taika. You know… it’s hard to have a character like his but also make the audience love him or to think about his point of view, not just go like oh gosh he’s supporting Hitler, he’s horrible. Finding Roman was a changing point. When you look at him, you only think that he’s the cutest and sweetest kid.”
“He is the kindest little human, an honest gentleman who is a complete professional and a kid blessed with amazing acting skills. Roman has such a fresh approach towards acting since this is his first time doing it, and he is willing to learn from anybody who gives him any advice. You know… being surrounded with actors like Scarlett, Taika or like Sam Rockwell, at the end he gained so much experience and just little secrets about acting.”
“But also he is such an appreciative boy. Whenever he wasn’t shooting and I had time off too, we’d rate the food and candy we had on set, and one time, I had a very bad day. I was tired and frustrated and he came to my trailer with a basket full of things that I liked so far and we watched cartoons for the rest of the day. The next day, he came up to me and said, thank you for choosing me for the role and I’m so happy to work with you. My heart melted. He has the biggest heart and besides that, he’s an amazing actor.”
Thomasin McKenzie as Elsa Korr:
“Taika was the one who suggested Thomasin for this part since he knew her prior. And as production was getting along, and we got to know each other better, I recognized so much of Thomasin in Elsa’s character and I find that so interesting. Working as an actor you don’t realize how much your co-stars are similar with their roles because you're so focused on how you would actualize your character, but seeing everyone from the third person’s view, it was easier to see these things.”
“I especially like the dynamic between Elsa and Rosie. Thomasin and Scarlett had this incredibly great chemistry and with Rosie being the mother figure to Elsa, I think they did such an amazing job with the scenes.”
Sam Rockwell as Captain Klenzendorf:
“Captain K has been one of my favorite characters since the beginning of the whole process. Whenever I wrote a scene with him, I just wanted to make him as sarcastic as possible. Him being a gay natzi I think was so ironic and drama-like so when Sam Rockwell came up as a possibility, I was pushing until he got the part.”
“His character has this similarity with Jojo, that you have to make the audience like him. But he also has these elements that make him more like someone who you’d love as a character. You can already see from the beginning that he is so done with this war and on top of that he has to train all these kids. Captain K is definitely one of the more chaotic comedic reliefs in the movie, which Sam did an amazing job doing.”
“While being a natzi captain, he is also a lowkey ally. In particular scenes you can see that he actually has other opinions about the whole natzi thing but rather goes with what is expected from him as a man and captain during this time, and I think it makes him a complex and mysterious character too.”
Y/n Coles as director, producer, screenwriter
Y/n:
“At first I was very nervous about playing the director’s part. I didn’t really think about doing it, I was just like… you know I wrote this with Taika, I'm sure he will do a great job with it. But he insisted that I direct it and produce it. Still, terrified. But here we are.”
“As the whole casting part was over and it started getting very real, I sat down with Taika and asked him, did we just ruin our career? He looked at me, took a deep breath, and said, I guess we’ll know when it’s in theaters. So yeah, that’s how we started filming.”
“When the script was finished, I didn’t know who to give it to read it first. I was very afraid of how people are gonna actually react with now the real thing in their hands. My dad was my first choice and I gave it to him, but he asked me to pitch him the idea. And I was like, you can’t be serious, there’s no way I will tell you a sentence about this movie that will make you want to watch it. He handed me back the pages and I had to give it to him when I had a pitch speech. But I kinda have one so…”
“Jojo Rabbit is about a boy, who lives in Natzi Germany and his imaginary friend/father figure is Hitler. But as the war continues he finds himself opening up his view about the world and what he has believed so far. Kind of… It’s still not perfect, just watch the movie.”
Taika:
“Working with Y/n was amazing. She has such a creative mind and just such a great approach toward her work. Actually, she’s the one who keeps me in line. She was the real boss around here while also being the most fun and loving person. I guess it was because she wasn’t dressed as Hitler while directing, that’s probably easier.”
“When we first thought about the idea of making a movie of this story, she was scared of the comedy part of it. I was like okay yeah, try to write something, write a scene then we’ll get back to it. A week later, she sent me the opening scene. The one you see in the beginning. Not a line has changed ever since she wrote it. The rest is history.”
“As an actor, she knew how to treat the actors while directing. Her attitude was just brilliant. She’s a genius. It was her first time directing and producing but she killed it, absolutely killed it. When she wanted to add an element we haven't discussed prior, she was really passionate about it. Her ideas are well thought over and amazing, but making it real was how I think she won over everyone.”
Scarlett:
“Y/n and I became friends before pre-production started and she voiced her concern about her directorial debut a lot of times. She was very scared about people not taking her seriously because of her age and “lack of experience”. But you know a woman like Y/n, she has that kind of posture that you don’t see in every director. She is an amazing actor and that definitely contributes to how she works as a director. Y/n has her own methods already on how to make her ideas real and how to speak with us to understand her vision.”
“The first time I read the script I was just so impressed with her writing skills. The dialogues she wrote are just so so good. And she is very shy about her work so whenever someone compliments her creation she's way too humble about it.”
“Y/n is a very approachable person and I think that is one of the reasons why it is so easy to work with her. She is direct with her words and thoughts which is always helpful for the actors, especially if there are kids involved. Y/n speaks their language so naturally and her connection with Roman definitely helped him to reach his best in the movie.”
Roman:
“Y/n is the best director I’ve ever worked with. Even if she’s the first one.”
“She is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met and she is very kind. She gives the best advice and I think she is easy to understand and doesn’t use these crazy words to explain what I have to do, so it was great to work with her.”
“But she’s also very fun when she’s not wearing the headphones and sits in her chair. Whenever she has free time she makes sure I’m okay and spends time with me. We often read lines together too, which is very cool.”
Thomasin:
“Y/n is the first female director I’ve worked with so far and she put the stakes very high for the next ones. She was just fantastic, truly.”
“When you first see her, you think she’s a beautiful young woman who is an actress. A lot of people actually don’t know how witty and how comedic her personality is. We always have fun with her on set.”
“I especially loved how Y/n gave us instructions. It was great because both she and Taika are actors and know what they need to understand a certain scene. Her instructions are always very straightforward but she’s also very flexible with how we play, which is I think very unique of her.”
Sam Rockwell:
“I’ve been following Y/n’s work for a while now and I think she’s a phenomenal actress. And because of that, I was very curious about her as a director.”
“On the first table read she was very reserved and observing, and I was very surprised that she’s so quiet and kinda lets Taika talk forever. But on the next one, she knew how all of us were and how to work with us, you know. She basically did a test run in her head on how this is going to work, oh Sam does this and Roman speaks like this, so she was just silently putting the whole picture together.”
“Although, what I was not expecting, is that she took her part in basically everything. She had ideas for the costumes, the buildings, and every type of artistic element. It is very important for her to not only show the darker ones of the time but like the light of it, which is very hard to find.”
***
It was done. The last scene has finished and everyone who worked in the film was standing in the room, looking at Taika and Y/n. The man gave his speech, making everyone laugh with his words, then looked at his directing partner who had tears in her eyes, holding them back with every strength in her body. Y/n got the mic and stepped forward.
“I don’t even know where to start…” She cleared her throat, scared to even look at her cast. “First of all I’d like to apologize for crying in the upcoming minutes, look past it please, I’m a mess as you can tell,” she chuckled tearfully.
She lifted her eyes to Scarlett who had the proudest smile on her face seeing her girl shine was something she’ll cherish forever.
The room was silent and everyone was listening to her words.
“Gosh uhm… I never thought that I would be here when I wrote this with Taika and it’s still surreal to me that we are standing here, with endless footage of the script. Firstly, I’d like to thank the crew who helped us create this amazing experience. The hair and makeup department, the costume department, the sound, camera, light crew, and our amazing set designers who made every little detail look incredible. Without all of you, we wouldn’t have a movie like this, our actors wouldn’t look like they just stepped out on the street in the 40s, and for that, I am so thankful,” she said and a round of applause filled the silence.
Y/n turned around and saw Taika standing with his hands in his pockets, also teary-eyed but with a big smile on his face.
“Without this man, I probably wouldn’t be crying here in front of you all. Taika, I will be forever and after that, grateful for you, that you pushed me and not saying that I was crazy for wanting to do a film about Nazis. You’ve been a mentor to me for years and I wouldn’t wish for anyone else. You did nothing but encourage me throughout the whole process so far and I adore you for that. I could not thank you enough for this,” the tears slid down her pink cheeks as Taika gave her a nod.
Then she looked at the cast. Her vision was slightly blurry from the tears but she saw every single one of them. Y/n could even see the tears in Scarlett’s eyes and that Roman was silently crying by her side.
“Oh gosh and you guys,” Y/n spoke but the knot in her throat made her stop for a second. “I don’t think I’ll ever have the words to express how much love I have for every single one of you. You made these characters alive, you gave them a voice, a face. Nobody would’ve done a better job than you and I wouldn’t wish for anyone else. You guys are incredible actors but mostly exceptional people. The work you all put into this project is everything we could’ve asked for and more. One day I hope we’ll work together again because I just love all of you with my whole heart.”
“This was an experience that I will never forget. You were the ones who helped me begin this amazing amazing journey. I don’t think I will ever be able to express the gratitude that I have for everyone in this room. Thank you for supporting me and believing in me despite my lack of experience. What I’m trying to say is that I love you and thank you for being a part of this amazing voyage.” She put her hands together like she was ready to pray but she bowed for their love.

Do you have any favourite period dramas or films?
Hello anon! Yes I have a lot of favorites because period dramas are really the only tv shows I like! I will list my top 5 favs and why I like them so much!
Outlander: it is a period drama that starts out in the 1940s but then the main character Claire travels back in time to the Scottish Highlands in the 1740s and meets her soulmate Jamie. I love this so much because it is just so perfect. The perfect costumes, the perfect love story, and just the overall perfect vibe. I really recommend it! You can watch this on Netflix and Starz or Amazon Prime!
A Small Light: this follows the story of Anne Frank and one of her helpers Miep Gies (the main character.) It is set in the 1940s during WWII in Amsterdam and gives us the true untold story of Miep Gies. I really love this because it is just so captivating and interesting. It gives the characters so much depth and it is so quirky. It also gives a a real view of what a persons life was like during the holocaust. You can find it on Disney + and Hulu!
3. Romanovs: An Imperial Family: this is what I would say the most historically accurate film ever made about the Romanov Family. It covers the events of Tsar Nicholas II’s abdication in March 1917 to the execution of NAOTMAA in July 1918. It is a Russian film so it is in Russian but you can find it on YouTube with English subtitles! I really recommend this because all of its settings and almost all of the information is accurate. I can point out only a few faults but besides that, it is a really good representation of the vibe of the Romanov family.
4. The Wonder: this is a period drama starring Florence Pugh who plays a young English nurse who travels to Ireland to investigate a case of a girl named Anna who supposedly hasn’t eaten food for months. It is very creepy and disturbing to some people but I like it very much. It take place in the late 1800s and has superb costumes and settings. I really recommend it for people who just want to watch a creepy movie that takes place in the past rather than something that involves real events. You can watch it on Netflix!
5. Jojo Rabbit: this is more of a comedic period drama about a boy named Jojo who is growing up in Nazi Germany during WWII. He loves Hitler and imagines him as his best friend. It also shows how people close to him are resisting the Nazis and how Jojo changes his views about them. It sprinkles loads of comedy throughout the film and is very emotional too. You can watch it on Netflix!
I have many more favorites but I do not want to bombard you with them lol! Thank you for asking!
