Wheres that post about John haunting the story. Haunting the boys. Him as a metaphorical and very physical ghost that clings on to the narrative like a noose. He is choking Dean into a muffled-hidden-puppet and Sam into an evil-good-for-nothing-monster. And he is never there. He is there for 12 episodes. He is always there.
He’s in the leather jacket and when that’s gone, he’s in Dean’s skin and his bones and in his head. Your father lasted a century and you barely made it past three decades. He was a great father. He did the best he could. He love us. That’s his car and his music and his clothes. Do you even have an original thought? Sometimes Dean’s drinking cheap liquor and he hates it. And he loves it. And it tastes like home.
Dad’s in Sam’s rage. He is spitting and yelling and it’s all Dad thats coming out of him. You were his son. His favorite son. The protected son. And still. Dad dies and Sam thinks—he thinks—good. But then Jess dies and Eileen dies and Mom dies and everyone else too, and maybe He did his best. Maybe Dad was on to something. And he’s not there but if Sam looks through the rearview mirror at just the right angle, he might be.

Idea for a fic that I'm not going to write, so consider it free to a good home 😘
COD Ghosts follows two brothers raised by a shitty, absent, militant father, who goes missing and they have to carry out the family business, and they go on to save the world after their shitty dad dies.
Do with that whatever you like. 👍
Anyway. Bye.

Whenever Im feeling down(or need some emotions or diy therapy session) i like to rewatch that supernatural episode where John's dying and so uses one of his last moments to apologize to Dean; to acknowledge all that Dean's done for their family, for him, things Dean never should have had to do. He knew he should've been more of a father to Dean, but he wasn't.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The admittance of his mistakes, how shit he'd been as a dad, how he'd become more of a drill sergeant. Admitting how wrong it was to raise Dean as a soldier, how Dean had to lose his childhood.
Tumblr media
The responsibilities he put on his child. Dean gave his all for John and Sam, they're all he has, and finally, Dean can see that being acknowledged. Finally someone says it out loud.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To hear those words, so so important....
Tumblr media
John was a horrible father. He was a good man, strong, intelligent, a protector, perhaps a hero to many; but to get there, he had to sacrifice his role as a father to his sons. He became jaded, obsessive , callous, and abusive; mentally, emotionally, and, well we all know it, physically. He was their drill sergeant, of course it got physical. It was to toughen them up, yes, saved them in the long run, yes, but its not how a Father should have raised them, and that's where it all circles back to doesn't it? Him being a father, the one role he failed in.
John loved his sons, of course he did, no question, but at this point, his love was twisted. His love for Mary became obsession, and love for his sons became rage fueled training, harsh and cruel and biting. To him, the greatest act of love he could offer was making sure they lived, no matter how they may end up on the other side.
Dean took all of that on from such a young age; tried to shield his brother from it best as he can. It never gets acknowledged before; not much by Sam who sees it as blind obedience, and not from John who simply expected it.
And yet now, John's acknowledging Dean's struggles and apologizing, and yes it was suspicious as hell, but do you know how else that'd feel like? How freeing? Knowing that your efforts didn't fo unnoticed?
Yes it doesn't change anything but its in ADMITTING IT. Its in the saying, in just being.
Its hard to be hurt so much by the one you love, one you choose to stick by regardless of trouble. To hear them acknowledge everything, its-...... Sometimes you'd have doubts you know? Think maybe you're just imagining all the pain, that you're just being dramatic and things aren't actually that bad. Even when your heart hurts, you try to convince yourself nothing's actually wrong. So to hear someone else validate it, and not just anyone else, but the person who hurt you!!!! Its such a rush of emotion; you wanna cry and laugh hysterically at the same time!!! Like haha im not a dramatic cracy btch after all!!!
And its not even till then that you realize just how badly you needed to hear it.
Maybe its why I come back to this scene when I'm down. To hear the words of a bastard piece of sht of a failed father who against all odds is still filled with love, admitting everything.
Those exact words, even the situations....
Guess I need to hear em too.

wait explain to me the destiel hatred i’m curious what abt it angers u that doesn’t apply to the other two ships
great question! the answer would unfortunately require 3 hours and a powerpoint presentation, so i will try to do a brief summary:
a ship sucking only ever has about 25% to do with the ship itself. destiel is bad in the sense that i think dean winchester is an annoying character that gets treated with kiddie gloves by the narrative, which makes him irritating to see on screen, because i personally dislike it when "men are angry and abusive because they just love too strongly, and don't know how to express it :(" is played straight as a character's primary internal conflict. especially over 15 seasons. it's boring, he's boring, and 35 year old men shouldn't be going to colleges trying to figure out which freshman girls are legal or not. hate him.
however the real sin of destiel, beyond the fact that dean winchester and i have beef that will only ever resolve when i get to reincarnate as the rusty nail that kills him, is that the fans are so so so fucking annoying. like yes the narrative frames dean as a golden boy who can either do no wrong, or "well, i guess he did wrong there, but what about how tortured he is :(" but good god. at least the show isn't trying to convince me that destiel is some groundbreaking lifechanging love story, complete with "omg this moment" montages where they romanticize scenes that feature dean either insulting, threatening, or humiliating cas. like this entire show (post season 5) is dean chronically either infantillizing and attempting to keep cas under his control, or holding him up as the only person he can rely on, thus giving cas expectations that are impossible to fulfill.
and don't get me wrong! people can like a shitty person and a fucked up ship. that's basically everything i enjoy on here. but at least like. acknowledge it. aldfkjalka. and if you're gonna like a shitty person and a fucked up ship, at least write about it in an interesting way. 90% of fic and posts written about destiel aren't even about destiel as presented in canon, they're about two generic men with generic personalities who suffer from the world's most generic tropey problems. cookie cutter ass basic relationship. the high school au of ships. boring.

ok new headcanon: mary knew bobby and had a one-night-affair with him, resulting in baby dean, that’s why john resents dean so much. bobby being dean’s bio father is the reason for dean’s alcoholism gene - but also the cause for not having john’s anger issues (markofcain!dean and demon!dean doesn’t count obv) and the reason he’s such a great father/ father figure to sam, ben, alex, claire, and jack

I’m always upset when John isn’t a fucking asshole in AU fics where Mary’s still around but then I remember… yeah that’s how it’s supposed to be. John may have been an asshole beforehand, but (as we see in “The Song Remains the Same”) he sees his post-Mary’s death behavior as inexcusable. It’s after Mary dies that he turns violent and [insert every single negative word because I hate that man so much]. When Mary dies, so does every potential for good John has. Which got me thinking about The Winchesters and how I’m worried they might try to make John a good person, but for every good thing they try to make John do, it makes what he did worse. The better a person he is in The Winchesters, the worse he turns out to be. His future is already written. He turns into a monster no matter what. There is no potential for redemption. There is only seeing how much of himself he chooses to kill to turn himself into what he becomes.

but i knew i had it coming | 1/3
but i knew i had it coming sam & dean, 1844 words | [ao3] pilot au, dean doesn’t come visit and sam walks in on brady early
It’s not the call you’re expecting to get from Sam. The last time you spoke, you were drunk and he was silent on the other end, no response to your curses that petered out into pleas for him to return.
That was over two years ago.
You know he’s still alive, if only from the fact that the monthly payment for his cell phone still comes out of your account.
I still have the same number, you can imagine him saying. You know you could call. But you don’t.

The thing that infuriates me the most about Vogelbaum is that anyone with half a brain would know that raising a kid in a lab with no love or affection is gonna fuck them up. And Vogelbaum still has the audacity to act like it was just an experiment that went wrong and not active child abuse.
Tumblr media
YEP. YEP. i honestly cannot even accept his spiel as taking accountability because he's not sorry to JOHN. he's upset that his god-awful, inhumane experiment failed, and that his "legacy" is what he considers a walking reminder of that failure. he still cannot be bothered to have any real remorse, or humanize John in any way.
amen. fuck vogelbaum.

Anyway so like something that I’ve been thinking about lately is Dean Winchester in the episode where he and Sam accidentally bring John back from 2003. I think about that all the time, and so much of it pisses me off. There’s the fact that Dean’s secret wish, even after all that time, is for John to come back and have a whole family again. But then there’s John’s immediate concern for Sam, and John’s immediate return to the drill sergeant “sir yessir” behavior, when he tells Sam and Dean— but looking only at Dean— “you boys better tell me what the hell is going on.”
I think about how Dean barely maintains eye contact with John throughout the episode. I think about how when John had a talk with Sam, Sam brought up the story that only an episode before Dean had shared with his mom— the story of the Winchester Casserole— and how John beat them, the smell sent him into a blind rage, and John… John fucking Winchester… his only bit of accountability was “I really screwed up with you guys, huh?” And how Sam flinched when John clapped his shoulder. How Sam kept staring at the hand as if deciding whether he could bite it now that it wasn’t feeding him anymore. As if waiting for the interaction to be violent.
I think about how when John was about to leave, and he hugged both the boys and said he loved them— Sam was crying. Dean was staring straight ahead, almost dissociated, so distant, and could barely say I love you loud enough to be heard. I also think about how they framed the shot: John says I love you, Mary looks on crying before turning her head to Dean, Dean then mumbles that he loves John back. But it wasn’t that he was mumbling in the way a child would with obligation. Dean’s mumbling felt almost… sad. Dean’s mumbling felt like it had been so long since he said it that he wasn’t even sure how the words tasted anymore.
And then I think about the last time John told Dean that he loved him. When was that? How long has it been since Dean heard that? But I bet John told Sam that. I bet Dean heard it directed at Sam long after it was last directed at him.

I always think it’s important not to gatekeep characters people are allowed to have different interpretations and opinions on the same characters and then I see people hating women for misogynist reasons and I reconsider my point
