Kinktober day 17
John Gillman/Homelander + cock warming
Tumblr media
Hes so cute in this gif, like omg...
Readers a silverfox, aka an older hot man, cuz you can’t tell me Homelander wouldn’t climb older men who gave him positive attention.
Kinktober 2023 masterlist
The noise of typing on a keyboard could be heard throughout your office as you worked, the sleeves of your button-up rolled up to your elbows, your greying hair ruffled from its usually gelled hairstyle. You had been working nonstop for days at this point, only taking breaks for short naps or to refill your coffee cup when Ashley or other assistants weren’t around to do it for you.
You had worked for Vought for a long time, as long as Stan Edgar, though you hadn’t felt the need to be the CEO as you weren’t cruel enough for that role. So, you easily gave it up for Stan and took a lower, but still very high rank in the company. Your role involved many things, but one of them happened to be dealing with Homelander, or John as you called him behind doors, as he had always been drawn to you from day one.
You had met him for the first time when he started as Homelander, as you weren’t too involved with the whole creation of supes, as you liked having plausible deniability. Of course, you knew it happened and how it worked, you weren’t on even foot with Stan Edgar for so long and not know, but really, he seemed to gain more joy from it than you, so you let him keep it.
But back to the present, you leaned back into your seat with a sigh, running a hand over your face and massaging at the ugly wrinkle that always appeared on your face as you worked. A small moan could be heard between your legs as you changed your position, the person between them shuffling forwards to take you fully between his lips once again.
Looking down, your eyes met the sight of your sweet boy, Homelander, his eyelashes resting beautifully against his cheekbones as he held you between his lips. As you ran your hand through his tussled hair, he seemed to sigh and become even more relaxed, his tongue limp against the bottom side of your soft length.
He was so well behaved, always aching for your attention and praise. When Homelander first started out he had been softer and more anxious, but as time passed he had become quite egotistical and bratty, but you were always able to keep him on a tight leash when it was just the two of you, as he seemed to ache so deeply for your attention.
His eyes fluttered open as you brushed your thumb over his cheek, his pupils blown so wide they almost swallowed up the blue in his eyes. He looked almost drunk as he let his head fall to rest against your thigh, his mouth still securely wrapped around you. As if testing his luck, John gave a soft almost hesitant suck as he looked up at you, his glazed expression sharpening enough to see if you had any negative reaction to his behaviour.
Normally you’d have scolded him for acting against your orders, as you had told him to just warm you as you worked, but you were technically taking a break from your reports, and he had behaved so well. “It’s okay baby” you mumbled, caressing the side of his head before you ran it through his hair in an almost affectionate move.
You could visibly see him shudder as you finally allowed him to move, his head slowly bopping up and down as John finally allowed himself to start to suck and swallow around you, rubbing his tongue against the underside of your cock as he pulled his head up, swirling it around the tip, before swallowing it all the way down again.
“Such a good boy” you praise in your tired voice, watching as he seemed to twitch and shiver at your praise and affection, your touch only seeming to fuel him further as he moved his head faster, his hands coming up to grip your thighs to give him more leverage to swallow you down to the root. His throat fluttered around you, and you could see tears well up in his eyes as he gave a soft gag, though it didn’t seem to be slowing him down.
Even as the most powerful member of the Seven, John still found his gag reflex acting up every now and then as he sloppily moved through the motions, tiny huffs and whines leaving him like a pup begging for love and attention.
You felt your head drop back against the seat as you could feel your limit approaching, you weren’t as young as you used to be, and you knew it would be your only orgasm of the night. Years ago, you might have been able to get hard multiple times during one night, but age seemed to do that to a person, not that John seemed to mind at all, in reality he only seemed to become more drawn to you the older you got. When you had started commenting about colouring your hair because of the grey appearing in it, he had almost burst into tears, so you kept it.
John let out a louder sloppier moan as you spilled against the back of his throat and against his hungry tongue, letting him savour the taste for as long as he wanted. After a while you had to softly push his head back though, patting his shoulder to get him up and into your lap, as your back had started complaining about lifting him and carrying him around the past few years.
John let out a satisfied sigh as he cuddled against you, pressing his face into your neck and nuzzling against you like an affectionate cat, almost purring as you rubbed his back and muttered half formed words of praise and affection. You would let him float in your arms for a while you decided as you rolled your chair back towards your desk, at least until your legs lost circulation from his weight on top of you. In the meantime you could start working on tomorrows paperwork.

Homelanders ears perked up at the sound of (Y/n) whimpering. And without saying a word to Ashley he exited the conference room in a hurry. Initially he thought maybe she was pleasuring herself, or worse cheating on him. But as he neared the door to his apartment, he began to worry that she was in fact hurt. So he barged into the apartment, and made a beeline for his bedroom. Where he found her curled up in his bed, crying her little human heart out. Without even realizing it, tears began to stream down his own face as he observed her. And it wasn't until she noticed him, and hiccuped out his name, that he crossed the room and joined her in the bed. He pulled her into his arms, and they cried their hearts out together. "Why are we crying right now?" Homelander asked hiccuping a little at the end. "I don't kn-ow!" (Y/n) practically wailed as tears continued to stream down her face. Homelander whined at her words before nuzzling into her hair. "What happened?" He sniffled, unable to stop the tears from falling, no matter how hard he tried. "N-nothing I just." She hiccuped again, trying to calm down. "I jus-t started crying and now I ca-n't stop." She wept as she clung to him for dear life. He kissed the crown of her head, still trying to calm down. "Oh baby." He cooed softly through his unrelenting tears. "I-I'm sorry." She whimpered into his chest, and in return he simply held her a little tighter. "Angel." He murmured as he tilted her head up, fat tears rolling down both of their cheeks. "I love you." He whispered before leaning in to kiss her chapped lips, whimpering at the taste of their tears that mixed together, as he slipped his tongue into her mouth.

Burns Deep
Tumblr media
Summary: Your jealousy burns deep, but Homelander’s burns deeper than you ever imagined.
Warnings: language, 18+ content, jealousy
Extra: GIF is not mine
It was another day at Vought tower, kissing the public’s ass once again. Edgar just announced the newest member of the Seven, Stormfront, and you couldn’t help the bitterness you felt the moment you saw her. The I don’t give a fuck attitude was enough for you to roll your eyes every time something came out of her mouth.
You were already 20 minutes late for your daily meeting why not make it 30 to piss John off even more. You were closest to him out of the Seven and once she joined, he completely took your attention for granted and kept it on her just because she was different and stronger than most of us.
Strutting your way towards the tall steel doors in your new supe outfit, the baby blue and white leather hugging your curves uncomfortably yet enough to make you feel more confident than you ever have.
“Nice of you to finally join us, Y/N.” Homelander smiles, but you knew it wasn’t genuine. He was steaming from the ears. Where were you? Who were you with that was more important than being here?
“Sorry, outfit malfunction.” You shrug, taking the seat next to Starlight. His eyes never stray from you until you sit down, throwing him the sweetest smile you could muster with innocent eyes. You knew he wouldn’t stay mad long. It was almost impossible for him to go an hour knowing you were mad at him.
“As I was saying,” he continues through gritted teeth, “Edgar does not make the rules anymore. We are the ones who are stronger than any of them weak feeble humans out there,” he rants. “We have the power guys! I don’t think they really understand what we’re capable of, and now with Stormfront being here we can really show them what we stand for.”
“How sweet of you.” She smiles. “I just don’t understand how anyone could just let themselves be controlled by some company, for what?” She explains. “Money! I mean, come on you guys, we are the company.”
“And that is why you are the best and why we need you,” Homelander says almost sincerely with puppy dog eyes, you wanted to squeeze her vocal cords until she couldn’t talk anymore.
“Aright, is that it?” You exclaim, getting up and walking towards the door. “I have a date tonight that’s way more important than this bullshit.” You add just to piss him off even more.
That wasn’t a lie. You did have a date with one of the workers at Vought from wardrobe. You realized just how much you were missing out on cause you were too busy wrapped around Homelander’s finger.
“Walk out that door and you’re out,” Homelander growls, slamming his hand down on the table. You halt, mouth parting in astonishment when you turn around to face him. Red eyes, blazing with only what you could call anger, stare back at you.
“You can’t be serious?” You snap angrily, your eyes already turning a bright shade of blue at the rage and power coursing through your blood.
“I’m dead serious. Sit your ass down now, we’re gonna have a little chat,” he hisses. “Everyone else, out.” They give you a look of pity, hesitant to leave you alone with the raging supe.
“Now!”
They scatter like ants until it was just you and John.
“You,” he laughs bitterly, pointing a finger in your direction, “really like to push my buttons, don’t you, Y/N?”
You pretend to think. “Hmm, I really don’t know what you mean, John. As far as I’m concerned this meeting was over before I even got here. Nothing I haven’t heard before.”
He stalks towards you almost like a predator waiting to pounce on its prey. “Who is he?” He spits, towering over you. You stand your ground cause he doesn’t scare you at all. Sure, you know what he’s capable of, but would he really go as far as hurting you? His best friend. The one he was experimented on with since they were toddlers.
“You don’t know him. He sure is handsome though,” you coo, bringing a hand up to graze his jaw. You watch his eye twitch and jaw clench under your fingers. “I was quite lonely without you these least few days, you know, since you’ve been with Stormfront so much. I just decided to find someone to keep me company.”
He grabs your wrist in one hand and your throat in the other, shocking you, and in one swift motion pins you against the wall. His face hovers close to yours just enough to where you can smell the mint gum on his breath.
You let out a harsh breath at the impact and laugh as much as you can with the little oxygen you were working with.
“Why have you been so bad today, hmm? You like being a bad girl and embarrassing me in front of everyone. Just because I haven’t given you enough attention.” He was seething, fingers tightening around your neck. Homelander was seeing red. The thought of you going on date with some else was enough to trigger him. He doesn’t want to think about what would happen after. The way you’d let him touch you in places he was only meant to touch.
He yanks you towards him, bringing his lips to yours in a rough burning kiss. His mouth was hot against yours, fingers lessening their grip just a little so you could breathe easier. He releases the harsh grip on your wrist, allowing you to wrap your arms around his neck. His hands travel to your thighs, lifting you up while you wrap your legs around him, threading your finger through his blond locks.
“You’re fucking mine, Y/N.” He made a low guttural sound in the back of his throat. “I’ll kill him before he touches you.” You release a loud moan at the thought of him killing someone over you. His lips were everywhere skin was showing. Your back hit the table before you were yanked back towards him. He grips your face harshly. “Who do you belong to?” His other hand found the warmth of your pussy under the leather fabric, teasing your clit in harsh circular motions.
“You,” you cry out, bucking your hips into his hand as tears welled in your eyes. “I’ve always belonged to you, John!” You gasp when he rips a hole in the crotch of your suit. He unbuckles his pants, yanking them down and running the red tip of his swollen cock against your moist folds. Your eyes roll to the back of your head, and he yanks your head up firmly. “Eyes on me, young lady,” he growls with a hunger present.
He inches the head of his cock inside you, letting out a small whimper. “Fuck.”
“Please, please, please,” you beg. You were pathetic, cock drunk to say the least. “John, please,” you whine.
He thrusts deep inside you without warning, and you grip his shoulders tightly, burying your nails in the fabric of his suit. “Goddamn, this pussy,” he grunts, pulling out and thrusting in you again until he was driving his cock in and out of you in a chaotic manner, like he couldn’t get enough.
“This is your punishment for being a bitch today, understand?” He barks, plunging your pussy while it makes squelching noises from how wet you were.
“Yes, yes,” you moan loudly, feeling the burning sensation building in the pit of your walls. You clench around his cock, and he jerks you in for another kiss, sliding his tongue in your mouth. He growls against your mouth, releasing his seed in your pussy as you coat yourself with his cock that was still fucking you.
“I dare you to act up again,” he warns, pressing his forehead against yours. “I’ll kill every single fucking one of them who try to take you from me.”

milky milk milk for homelander
any butchlander fics out there with a cow hybrid billy for homelander to milk?
and if not.
WHY IN THE FUCK DOES THAT NOT EXIST AND WHY DO I NEED IT NOW!?
seriously, this could be an amazingly degenerate idea. but just imagine how much more obsessed with billy homelander would be.
could be a verse with general animal hybrids and equal rights so everything's mostly the same. even one where homelander doesn't know at first cause billy hides it well. could be a simple au with just homelander and billy on a small farm. hell, billy could even be a gift from vought for christmas/birthday in a world where animal hybrids do not have equal rights, causing a shit ton of resentment from billy and possible escaping. the possibilities are there!
and i definitely cannot explain it but the image of a pouty and grumpy as fuck billy with just these massive mammary mommy milkers popped into my head, and how desperate homelander would be to milk them suckers and call him 'mommy', and i'm not honestly normally into that, but SHIT. now i need it!
doesn't even have to be sexual but seriously!

The Name of the Game
There’s too much on my plate presently so I won’t write this brainworm right now but imagine this Enemies-to-Lovers Butchlander AU premise: Butcher transmigrates into different worlds where every identity he assumes pits him against its “virtuous hero” (Homelander).
The catch? Butcher has to somehow win his enemy over—or it’s death.
So, for context before I start going into detail, what the heck is “quick transmigration” you ask? It’s essentially world-hopping through various worlds in one story (think multi-short stories that all somehow connect together in a bigger narrative).
Tumblr media
The original world this Butcher hails from is an alternate reality where Vought International has expanded all across the globe—and he himself is a Supe affiliated with Vought UK.
On a PR visit to Vought-American (Homelander would have to be tied early into the story here somehow), Butcher’s inner circle gets ambushed by “Supe terrorists”/ “supervillains.” One of those Supes has the power to temporarily banish a person from their plane of existence (or whichever power it is that’d jumpstart the “Quick Transmigration” system)—and Butcher gets caught in that.
He wakes up with a splitting migraine, and a “Conquer System” that explains his return conditions. He’s allowed to go back to his world as long as he fulfills his mission task in each world.
His mission? Fulfill the dying wish of each “soul” he’ll transmigrate into. Fight fate.
The caveat? Whatever identity Butcher assumes, he’ll be the natural nemesis of that world’s equivalent of the “Favorite Son”/ “Golden Child” (the meta equivalent of each world’s main character/ male protagonist/ rival).
Most of all, Butcher CANNOT kill that person. Or it’s automatic erasure.
At this point, Butcher doesn’t know who that person is yet so he’d naturally snap, “You expect me to know who the bloody hell that’d be?”
System: “Oh, you’ll know.”
——————————————
There are 3 main twists:
The first twist is each body Butcher takes possession of is an AU version of him so we can play with 5-6 (or more?) different settings.
There’s full (medieval) fantasy, modern showbiz/ entertainment industry, A/B/O, interstellar (sci-fi), etc.
What’s important is the world before Butcher returns to his original world is ‘The Boys’ (TV or comic) canon universe; it’s so that this AU Supe version of Butcher lands himself in a reality where he’s, once again, powerless—but this time he’d apparently married this American woman called Rebecca Saunders. Essentially the canon events of the show or comic.
But with the same win conditions set by the System, Butcher has to tackle the situation differently from his counterpart. It’s the hardest challenge to pass (it’s the world most similar to his reality but the body he’s inhabiting has burned many bridges).
The second twist is “the Homelander” of each world somehow always falls for Billy.
So we’re talking King Stillwell’s greatest and most loyal knight falling under the charm of the dragonkin he was under orders to slay/ subjugate.
The prince of Hollywood—Vought Entertainment’s top A-list moneymaker—falling for this English chav paparazzo.
An Alpha falling for another Alpha.
Their names—and age—will always change in each world. For example, in one world Homelander is called “John Gillman” and in other worlds he’s “Johnny, J'onn, Jon,” or whatever is the appropriate variation of his name.
Butcher, for example, can isekai into “William, Will, Bill/y, Wilhelm,” etcetera.
And the last twist is, when Butcher accumulates enough “points” to return back to his reality, kick ass and chew bubblegum, *his Homelander* has experienced the longing and affections his alternate versions had felt for the Butcher through his “dreams”—even though they’ve never met.
Homelander and Butcher meet for the first time officially in their world, as strangers (competitive rivals because of their different divisions), yet they’ve both “experienced” worlds where they’d somehow become companions. Partners. Lovers.
And we end this story hinting it’ll be the same.

Ever-Changing Disney & Pixar Slates From 2008 to about 2016...
I'll have this here for reference as well...
Preface: DreamWorks' next film is something we know next to nothing about, and the only films on their slate are a TROLLS threequel and KUNG FU PANDA 4. A movie called MEET THE GILLMANS, per a few reports and other clues, is supposed to open before TROLLS BAND TOGETHER does... The rest of DreamWorks' slate is sparse, despite the studio reportedly having a big plan in place... So why the skittishness to say what's coming out?
I think I know why...
Anything can happen with an animated movie... Even if it's *this* close to completion. The animated adaptation of Nate Stevenson's NIMONA got shut down - alongside the studio it was being made at, Blue Sky - in February 2021 despite being 75% complete, but luckily it was revived at another studio (Annapurna) and will be completed and released this year. Henry Selick's THE SHADOW KING was maybe halfway done when Disney pulled the plug on it in mid-2012. DreamWorks halted in-production movies like ME AND MY SHADOW (shadows have bad luck in animation picture business, don't they?) and LARRIKINS. Disney threw out a 2D/CG picture with a lot of working titles, one of which was A FEW GOOD GHOSTS, despite the amount of work done on it.
The list is even longer, so I wanted to re-chronicle a weird history of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar on here... In an age where long-term slates being laid down is commonplace.
We'll start at April of 2008...
I remember seeing this slate back in the day and thinking, "Wow, this is massive." This predated Marvel releasing gargantuan half-decade plans for interconnected movies... This was a long-term plan spanning four years from both Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar. This was a little after The Walt Disney Company's historic acquisition of Pixar in early 2006, and the subsequent installation of Pixar stalwarts John Lasseter and Ed Catmull as heads of a revitalized WDAS. Perhaps after the release of MEET THE ROBINSONS and RATATOUILLE in 2007, there was a newfound confidence in both studios.
WDAS had gone through a rough period in the early 2000s, where films either lost money due to various circumstances (THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE) or didn't get great critical reception (BROTHER BEAR)... Sometimes both. (ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE, HOME ON THE RANGE) MEET THE ROBINSONS got mixed-to-positive reception at best, and did flop at the box office. The film had cost around $100m to make, and failed to double that worldwide. It was indeed dumped by the marketing department and heads, for it was perceived as more of a band-aid ripping than the first in a line of new-fangled WDAS movies sure to win back the critical acclaim and box office glory they once possessed in the early '90s. No, that distinction would go to BOLT, as it's often pointed to as the first of the "Revival" features, or at least the first of the Lasseter/Catmull pictures.
Anyways, that same year, RATATOUILLE became another Pixar blockbuster and seemed to prove that that Emeryville studio really could do no wrong. People doubted many of their films, each new Pixar movie seemed like their first flop. Michael Eisner infamously predicted FINDING NEMO would be a flop when he had seen a rough cut of the film around a year before its eventual release and subsequent record-breaking run at the box office. By the time you got to RATATOUILLE, people jeered that this movie starring a rat (gross! disgusting!) that wants to cook would be their first dud... But it wasn't, it defied the odds and it took home the Oscar on top of that.
So you could imagine that Disney was quite confident in their animation slate going forward, from both Pixar and WDAS... And so, they laid out a slate, in addition to the films already on the release boards... (Pixar highlighted in blue, WDAS in green)
WALL-E - 6/27/2008
BOLT - 11/26/2008
UP - 5/29/2009
THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG - Christmas 2009
TOY STORY 3 - 6/18/2010
RAPUNZEL - Christmas 2010
NEWT - Summer 2011
THE BEAR AND THE BOW - Christmas 2011
CARS 2 - Summer 2012
KING OF THE ELVES - Christmas 2012
Wow... Back in 2008, that seemed like *a lot* of movies... And Pixar releasing *two films* in a calendar year? What is this sorcery??
For anyone not entirely in the loop here, THE BEAR AND THE BOW is the movie that eventually got re-named to BRAVE. KING OF THE ELVES was to be an adaptation of the Phillip K. Dick story, from BROTHER BEAR directors Aaron Blaise and the late Robert Walker.
Now, a slight adjustment was made to this slate by fall of 2008... CARS 2 had curiously traded places with NEWT, and was now opening a year earlier than expected.
Some time passes by, by mid-2009, THE BEAR AND THE BOW is now BRAVE...
A new project based on Winnie the Pooh fires up. The company has a very short-lived desire to do a full-on reboot of the franchise and get it up to speed, as it had been kinda lost in Pooh Corner for quite some time. Pigeonholed as a preschooler property more so than something to be enjoyed by the whole family... This very brief push for a brand new Winnie the Pooh results in a hand-drawn animated feature, landed in the lap of Disney Animation. It is hastily greenlit and fast-tracked for a 2011 release. WDAS now has a movie to release that year.
Then we get to the end of 2009... THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG is not the blockbuster it should've been. The first hand-drawn feature from the studio since 2004, this performance causes a very weird blowback to fairy tales within the company, in an era where they were very concerned about one single demographic... The 6-to-12 year-old boy. Keep in mind, this is the year Disney launched the channel Disney XD (replacing Toon Disney), a channel tailored to that group. Marvel was also purchased that year, too, meaning Disney-released Marvel Cinematic Universe movies that would appeal to those. Their verdict was that the movie having "Princess" in the title was what killed it, as it scared away that boy audience... Though if you ask me, PRINCESS AND THE FROG had far more outside problems going on that affected the movie than some random little Timmy not wanting to see a "girly movie".
So now, by early 2010, the mandate was... No more fairy tales, those are passe. And 2D was pretty much not coming back, either. WINNIE THE POOH was in production, yes, but it was dead on arrival. An adaptation of THE SNOW QUEEN was... Forgive the pun, *on ice*...
However, there was one movie that stood in the way... It was the next movie, too... RAPUNZEL... The movie was hastily re-titled to TANGLED, in an attempt to make it seem less "girly". I love that movie, but I always hated that title... But it's the one they went with for the domestic and UK releases. Many countries retained the RAPUNZEL title, albeit in other languages. (For example, in French, it's RAIPONCE.) TANGLED couldn't be cancelled, it was far too deep into production to have that happen to it... It was still on track for Thanksgiving of 2010. Elsewhere in the "Hat Building", KING OF THE ELVES is but dead, with Blaise and Walker having moved on to other things. WINNIE THE POOH was moved to the day the final HARRY POTTER movie was supposed to open, instead of a much more ideal early spring slot. (It was an April release in the UK and much of Europe.) Conspicuously, Pixar does not pull the plug on BRAVE, which itself is a fairy tale-inspired fantasy story with a princess in it...
Now around this time, a project called REBOOT RALPH was starting to make the rounds, and eventually it secured a release date of March 22, 2013. Why not fall 2012, where KING OF THE ELVES used to be? Well, that's because Pixar - out of nowhere - had announced that a MONSTERS, INC. 2 was in the works for a fall 2012 release... And that NEWT was outright cancelled, leaving the summer of 2012 to BRAVE. By the time TOY STORY 3 came to theaters, the slate now looked like this...
TANGLED - 11/24/2010
CARS 2 - 6/24/2011
WINNIE THE POOH - 7/15/2011
BRAVE - 6/22/2012
MONSTERS, INC. 2 - 11/2/2012 (or possibly the 16th)
REBOOT RALPH - 3/22/2013
We can see the "two Pixars a year, WDAS settles for the year after" pattern starting to take shape here...
Now we get to early 2011... MONSTERS, INC. 2 turns out to be a prequel titled MONSTERS UNIVERSITY, and REBOOT RALPH is retitled to WRECK-IT RALPH... RALPH is now a fall 2012 release, and MONSTERS U moves to summer 2013. No "two Pixars" in 2012...
TANGLED does well at the box office, proving that fairy tales aren't passe at all. At Disney Animation, THE SNOW QUEEN is put back in development, and according to the defunct insider blog Blue Sky Disney, it was put in a "production race" of sorts with KING OF THE ELVES, now under BOLT director Chris Williams. Both are competing to be the next WDAS film after the release of WRECK-IT RALPH because right around that time? There wasn't anything really else on the horizon that was in shape to go forward... Early work was being done on what would eventually become BIG HERO 6, pitches for movies that later became ZOOTOPIA and MOANA were just taking shape around this time. So it was either SNOW QUEEN or ELVES...
In August, at the inaugural D23 fan expo, Pixar announces two original movies with no titles... They are announced as THE UNTITLED PIXAR MOVIE ABOUT DINOSAURS and THE UNTITLED PIXAR MOVIE THAT TAKES YOU INSIDE THE MIND...
They are later slated for 11/27/2013 and 5/30/2014 respectively...
That is, until THE SNOW QUEEN - now baring the TANGLED-esque adjective title FROZEN - took the dinosaur movie's slot... So by the end of 2011, things looked a bit like this...
BRAVE - 6/22/2012
WRECK-IT RALPH - 11/2/2012
MONSTERS UNIVERSITY - 6/21/2013
FROZEN - 11/27/2013
UNTITLED PIXAR MOVIE ABOUT DINOSAURS - TBD
UNTITLED PIXAR / INSIDE THE MIND - TBD
Come CinemaCon, April 2012, things are cleared up about the dinosaur and mind movies... They have titles, aaaaand release dates...
BRAVE - 6/22/2012
WRECK-IT RALPH - 11/2/2012
MONSTERS UNIVERSITY - 6/21/2013
FROZEN - 11/27/2013
THE GOOD DINOSAUR - 5/30/2014
INSIDE OUT - 6/19/2015
Later in the year, two adjustments are made to this slate...
BRAVE - 6/22/2012
WRECK-IT RALPH - 11/2/2012
MONSTERS UNIVERSITY - 6/21/2013
FROZEN - 11/27/2013
THE GOOD DINOSAUR - 5/30/2014
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 11/7/2014
INSIDE OUT - 6/19/2015
UNTITLED PIXAR - 11/25/2015
Once again, Pixar trying to have two a year...
In April 2013, a FINDING NEMO sequel called FINDING DORY is officially confirmed to exist, and it takes the Thanksgiving 2015 slot... Also right around this time, Disney Animation confirms that their Marvel comic adaptation BIG HERO 6 is on the boards for fall 2014...
May 2013 is where things get big... This, I believe, is in response to how well WRECK-IT RALPH does for Disney Animation. The film manages to be the studio's second big hit after TANGLED, and that they were in good standing. With that, many more dates were locked for WDAS films in addition to Pixar films...
MONSTERS UNIVERSITY - 6/21/2013
FROZEN - 11/27/2013
THE GOOD DINOSAUR - 5/30/2014
BIG HERO 6 - 11/7/2014
INSIDE OUT - 6/19/2015
FINDING DORY - 11/25/2015
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 3/4/2016
UNTITLED PIXAR - 6/17/2016
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 11/23/2016
UNTITLED PIXAR - 6/16/2017
UNTITLED PIXAR - 11/22/2017
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 3/9/2018
UNTITLED PIXAR - 6/15/2018
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 11/21/2018
Talk about "eatin' good"... That was *five* whole years of new animated features to look forward to, and only folks who were in the trenches knew what was possibly coming out on those dates...
The next D23 Expo takes place, where ZOOTOPIA is revealed to the public for the first time. Later, Disney confirms that it'll be WDAS' March 2016 release. However, a little after an odd presentation... It is revealed that Pixar's THE GOOD DINOSAUR has hit a snag... The director was removed, and a month later, Pixar up and delayed the movie. THE GOOD DINOSAUR migrated to Thanksgiving 2015, kicking FINDING DORY to summer 2016... 2014 is the first year to be without a Pixar feature since 2005...
FROZEN - 11/27/2013
BIG HERO 6 - 11/7/2014
INSIDE OUT - 6/19/2015
THE GOOD DINOSAUR - 11/25/2015
ZOOTOPIA - 3/4/2016
FINDING DORY - 6/17/2016
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 11/23/2016
UNTITLED PIXAR - 6/16/2017
UNTITLED PIXAR - 11/22/2017
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 3/9/2018
UNTITLED PIXAR - 6/15/2018
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 11/21/2018
All is quiet for a little while... FROZEN erupts into a blockbuster phenomenon, but Disney remains mum on what's on the horizon beyond the spring 2016 release of ZOOTOPIA. Wisely so.
During an investor's call in March, CARS 3 and INCREDIBLES 2 are confirmed to exist, but are not given release dates.
In October, during another investor's call, TOY STORY 4 is revealed and has a release date: June 16, 2017.
On the Disney Animation front that same month, MOANA is confirmed to be the studio's fall 2016 release.
BIG HERO 6 - 11/7/2014
INSIDE OUT - 6/19/2015
THE GOOD DINOSAUR - 11/25/2015
ZOOTOPIA - 3/4/2016
FINDING DORY - 6/17/2016
MOANA - 11/23/2016
TOY STORY 4 - 6/16/2017
UNTITLED PIXAR - 11/22/2017
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 3/9/2018
UNTITLED PIXAR - 6/15/2018
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 11/21/2018
2015 means a new D23 Expo, and possibly a lot more information on what's coming from both studios...
But first, in March of 2015, Disney announces FROZEN II is happening. No date is set or implied.
At D23, COCO is revealed to be the Pixar's fall 2017 release. GIGANTIC, from Disney Animation, is announced but no release date is given. It is implied to be a spring 2018 release.
Then shortly thereafter, The Walt Disney Company announces a massive film slate encompassing all pictures - animated and live-action, Marvel and Lucasfilm...
CARS 3 is dated, taking TOY STORY 4's 6/16/2017 slot, TOY STORY 4 takes 6/15/2018. INCREDIBLES 2 is dated 6/21/2019, a WDAS film is slated for 11/27/2019... GIGANTIC is confirmed for spring 2018. Three 2020 animation releases are added, too. Wow! Two Pixars, one for 3/13/2020 and the other for 6/19/2020, and one WDAS, 11/25/2020...
THE GOOD DINOSAUR - 11/25/2015
ZOOTOPIA - 3/4/2016
FINDING DORY - 6/17/2016
MOANA - 11/23/2016
CARS 3 - 6/16/2017
COCO - 11/22/2017
GIGANTIC - 3/9/2018
TOY STORY 4 - 6/15/2018
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 11/21/2018
INCREDIBLES 2 - 6/21/2019
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 11/27/2019
UNTITLED PIXAR - 3/13/2020
UNTITLED PIXAR - 6/19/2020
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 11/25/2020
2016 comes about with a few updates...
A WRECK-IT RALPH sequel is confirmed to exist, and is slated for 3/9/2018. It pushes GIGANTIC to fall 2018.
TOY STORY 4 and INCREDIBLES 2 trade places...
By fall 2016, things are looking like this...
MOANA - 11/23/2016
CARS 3 - 6/16/2017
COCO - 11/22/2017
WRECK-IT RALPH 2 - 3/9/2018
INCREDIBLES 2 - 6/15/2018
GIGANTIC - 11/21/2018
TOY STORY 4 - 6/21/2019
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 11/27/2019
UNTITLED PIXAR - 3/13/2020
UNTITLED PIXAR - 6/19/2020
UNTITLED DISNEY ANIMATION - 11/25/2020
One last development I'll bring up is the cancellation of GIGANTIC in fall 2017, leaving March 2018 vacant. WRECK-IT RALPH sequel, titled RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK-IT RALPH 2 (the subtitle was removed right before its release), takes the fall 2018 slot.
Other than that, very little changed... The slate played out the way it was supposed to. INCREDIBLES 2 came out summer 2018, with RALPH 2 following in the fall. TOY STORY 4 was summer 2019, FROZEN II was fall 2019. ONWARD was spring 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some adjustments were made to the slate... But it otherwise resembles what it looked like circa late 2017. SOUL went from summer 2020 Pixar release to Christmas Day streaming release. Fall 2020 WDAS title RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON had to move to March 2021 because of that, but then the slate remained the same... Pixar's LUCA was a summer 2021 release, with WDAS' ENCANTO following in the fall. 2022, this past year, two Pixars as planned: TURNING RED in the spring, LIGHTYEAR in the summer, and one WDAS in the fall, that was STRANGE WORLD.
Their slate now?
ELEMENTAL - 6/16/2023
WISH - 11/22/2023
ELIO - 3/1/2024
INSIDE OUT 2 - 6/14/2024
Only covers this year and next year... One WDAS movie, three Pixars... And a ton of Marvel movies laid out til 2026 and AVATAR sequels into 2028... Disney's taking it easy with announcing what's on the horizon with animation... DreamWorks is doing the same... Heck, Universal's animation slate alone goes up to about mid-2024 with Illumination's DESPICABLE ME 4. A Swiss Universal slate document has various animated films slated for fall 2025 and fall 2026, but no word on those dates here in the states...
Maybe there is a reason they, and specifically Disney, don't announce long-term slates anymore... NEWT and GIGANTIC alone tell one why...
Maybe next time, I'll do DreamWorks, though that's a major-league cluster-cuss of its own. Till next time, fellas!

DIAL, THOUGH YOUR HEART IS ACHING...
Opening this weekend:
Tumblr media
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny--The first sound we hear is the ticking of a clock. Thus the fifth and valedictory entry in the series about Harrison Ford's globetrotting, whip-cracking archaeologist establishes Time, and its persistent shadow, Mortality, as the theme.
The movie starts with a lengthy and rather splendid act set in France in 1944, with Ford made young via some impressive CGI alchemy. Indy and a brilliant sidekick (Toby Jones) are snooping around a mountain stronghold, trying to filch back some artifacts from the plunder of retreating Nazis, among them a coldly businesslike SS Colonel (Thomas Kretschman) and a reptilian physicist (Mads Mikkelsen) who identifies the title gadget, a clockwork contraption built by Archimedes himself that supposedly can be used for time travel.
From here we fast forward to New York in the late '60s, where Indy is a grumpy and bereaved old man on the verge of retirement from teaching, separated from his beloved Marion, annoyed by the Beatles blasting from the hippie pad neighboring his cluttered apartment. His goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge), who he affectionately refers to as "Wombat," pulls him into one more adventure, chasing the Dial from Tangiers to the floor of the Mediterranean to Sicily. The unrepentant Nazi prof, who went on to help NASA get to the moon, is looking for the Dial too, with his murderous goons.
The first Indy flick, 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark, is a favorite of mine; tight and witty and curiously modest, it genuinely felt like a Republic serial of the '40s, maybe directed by William Witney. It was also built around a terrific Jewish joke, with its Nazis arrogantly supposing they could co-opt cosmic Jewish power unscathed. The lavish, overstuffed sequels were enjoyable enough, but all of them fell far short, for me, of that snappy, surefooted original.
Dial of Destiny falls short of the original too, but even so it may be the best of the sequels. It's the first that Steven Spielberg didn't direct; the duties here went to the always proficient James Mangold, who was also among the many screenwriters. And for the first half--the 1944 scenes, and the stuff in '60s-era New York, with Indy on the run against the backdrop of war protestors and astronaut ticker-tape parades--it's sensational.
The trouble is that, like so many contemporary blockbusters, it's outrageously overlong, at least thirty or forty minutes longer than it really needs to be. As MacGuffins go, the Dial doesn't have the same stirring imaginative power and poetry as the Ark, and its implications get the narrative in a little over its head in the later acts. For a story that starts with urgent ticking, the movie manages time very poorly.
Still, there's a lot to like here. Ford is wonderfully on point. He seems to have grown into the curmudgeonly manner that's always been part of his persona, but he's also emotionally present to a surprising degree, truly connecting with the other characters. Mikkelsen is a top-notch, quietly megalomaniacal villain, and Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas and John Rhys-Davies could all have warranted more screen time as Indy's allies, as could Shaunette Renée Wilson as an exasperated U.S. intelligence agent. Ethann Isidore is likable as Helena's street urchin pal.
Maybe best of all is Waller-Bridge's Helena--headlong, fearless, smiling, eyes full of self-delighted mischief. She even shows a hint or two of lewdness, welcome in this largely asexual series. It would be okay with me if they gave her more movies.
Tumblr media
Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken--At the very least, one must admit that this is a take on teen angst we haven't seen before. Ruby and her family are Krakens, the fearsome tentacled sea creatures of Nordic lore, but they're passing themselves off as humans; Ruby's Mom has a good career as a realtor in a seaside town. Ruby is under orders never to get wet in the ocean, lest her giant Kraken-ness be revealed to her classmates. This means she's forbidden to go to prom, as it's being held on a boat.
Soon enough Ruby (voiced by Lana Condor) learns that her Mom (Toni Collette) and her Grandma (Jane Fonda) are giant Kraken as well, and their backstory includes a feud with the mermaids. Indeed, the story is sort of The Little Mermaid in reverse, with many of the same psychological and sexual subtexts at work. And like an earlier DreamWorks Animation effort, Shrek, the snarky shots at Disney are amusing, in an inside-baseball way.
This movie has a glitzy, primary-color sensibility, like a fever dream after bingeing on My Little Pony and Powerpuff Girls and eating too much cioppino. And it feels about that ephemeral. But it's a sweet-natured fish tale, and undeniably original.

Hiii I want to requests a Homelander x Dom male reader that is a super powerful telepath and telekinetic that vought really wants to recruit because of his abilities (especially for his telepathy since they could use the info he finds from mind reading as blackmail) but instead reader refuses and blackmails vought to leave home alone so they send Homelander to kill him but he gets his ass handed to him by reader and is humiliated and turned on from how easy it was to over power him so they end up fucking
This was a long ask lol srry
Homelander/John Gillman x Supe male reader
Tumblr media
I just finished writing an assignment with a deadline of today, so im gonna reward myself by writing smut.
You had been made a supe the same way any supe had been created, but the moment you developed your telekinesis and telepathy, you had known a lot more than people thought. You had kept your telepathy a secret for many years, not wanting people to know you could read their thoughts just yet, as it allowed you to gather secrets and ways to survive in this fictional world that Vought had set up. When you became 18 you removed the tracking chip from your body using telekinesis and decided to leave. Your parents, the people who had been paid by Vought to make you superhuman, tried to make you stay, but you revealed how you knew all their secrets and how they never truly loved you. And using your knowledge you blackmailed them into leaving you alone for a while.
They of course went to Vought with the new information, fearing what you would do with all the knowledge you had. In the beginning they sent representatives from Vought to try and convince you to work with them, or to threaten you, but they had no idea how powerful you truly were. You had always been extremely smart thanks to your telepathy, so you kept the true extent of your powers a secret. They believed you could control fire, water, and even make yourself fly. But when you tore apart one of their more violent representatives, reducing them to mere atoms, they finally realized just how much of a threat you could be.
For many years they left you alone for the most part, though they would sent a representative every now and then, even sending other supes or a few times sending Black Noir. When you were in your 20s you met Stan Edgar for the first time, and again they must have underestimated your powers, as he didn’t seem as on edge as others had been. After talking with him for a bit you realized they thought you could only see and hear what they were thinking about at the moment, but in reality you could dig deep into their memories and gather all the information you wanted. So, when Edgar tried to subtly threaten you to join Vought, you dumped some of his most well-kept secrets out in the open, making it clear you’d keep the info you knew to yourself as long as they left you alone.
As the years pass Vought leaves you mostly to yourself, though they do keep an eye on you but never interact with you. But over time your powers have grown even more, so you’re able to gather information about everyone around you, you’re even able to read the thoughts and memories of people on the other side of the planet. Your telekinesis has pretty much made you invulnerable and unbeatable, but you could care less about the game that is superheroes and supervillains, so you much prefer a normal life.
When things with the seven start to go down, Edgar must have become desperate as multiple members die or are taken off the team for some reason. The unstable standing of Vought makes him decide to try and make you work for him again, knowing how useful your telepathy could be when it came to dealing with other people. But when you don’t even read the letter he sends you and instead light it on fire with your telekinesis, Edgar decides that if you wont work for Vought you cant be allowed to exist as you pose a threat to them.
Vought ends up sending Homelander your way, having filled his head with different stories of why you need to be gotten rid of and how much of a threat you pose to Vought and his own popularity. Over all these years you had worked mostly normal jobs, and for the past few years you had worked in an office building as a medium ranked worker. You were good at your job, and if you used your powers to make it a less toxic work place, no one could blame you.
You had just returned home from work, still wearing your suit and carrying your work suitcase, when Homelander landed in your yard. Luckily you lived in a more isolated area, so no one saw the number one hero land as if he owned the place, his hands on his hips and his red glowing eyes glaring in your direction. It didn’t make more than a glance to know why he was there, a sigh working past your lips as you reach up and rub your temple since you had planned on just spending the evening relaxing, maybe catching up on a show you had been putting off.
Homelander could only watch in confusion as you held up your hand in a wait here motion, opening your front door to place your suitcase down inside, working off your jacket to place it inside before closing the door again. Rolling your shoulder you barely gave John time to react before he found himself flying through the air, unable to keep up with your speed and overpowering strength.
John had never been overpowered before, so he did all he could to try and hit you. But even when his fists or lasers hit you it left no damage, which only worked to enrage and humiliate the blonde even more. As if you were finally done with indulging him, you used your telekinesis to throw him to the ground, binding his arms to his body and making it impossible for him to move.
It was when you landed beside him that you really looked at him, having mostly tuned out his thoughts during the whole fight. But it was seeing him laying there, trying in vain to wriggle free from your hold, his hair ruffled and eyes shiny with tears, that you let your telepathy brush against his thoughts with more purpose.
The influx of humiliation and lust was a surprise whilst it also really wasn’t, and you could help but smirk and chuckle, causing Homelanders eyes to flash red as he felt enraged at your laughter. The two of you were in the middle of nowhere, so no one saw you pull John to his knees, using his blonde hair as a grip to pull you whichever way you pleased. It was clear just how touch starved the supe was, as he almost seemed to arch into your hand, his eyes fluttering as he felt the flash of pain in his scalp.
John couldn’t help but buck his hips at the burning humiliation, his eyes growing even more teary as he glanced up at your passive expression, as if he wasn’t anything special kneeling between your knees the way he was. There was something so good about being overpowered, it was something Homelander had always craved but had never been able to be given since he had always been the strongest. But here he was, his arms bound behind his back with a power he couldn’t even see, aching hard between his thighs as he almost shivered in anticipation.
The power of Homelanders want washed over you like a tidal wave, making twinges of heat gather in your abdomen, making your length harden up little by little. The blonde must have smelled the change in your hormones thanks to his heightened senses, a feeble whimper passing between his pouty lips as he tried to press his head forwards towards your crotch, but unable to move as the grip you had on his hair tightened.
The noises John made were nothing like one would imagine Homelander would make, tiny warbled pleas falling from his spit covered lips as he kept chewing and licking at them, as if he was aching for something in his mouth. When he finally let the title that had been in the forefront of his mind slip from his lips you let out a groan of your own, and seeing your reaction Homelander started repeating “Daddy, please.” His voice growing more and more desperate as the lust built in both of you.
The fight had long left Homelanders body, replaced by the extreme need to serve you, to be a good boy. So, when your belt buckle opened without you using your hands, and your boxers were tucked down under your balls releasing your hard length to the cold air, John keened like he was dying. You held him in place with one hand as you used the other to grab around the base of your length, leading it to his mouth which fell open without any issue, John sticking out his wet tongue as he looked up at you with wet begging eyes.
His eyes almost rolled back into his head as he finally got his mouth around you, the hand in his hair loosening as he started bobbing his head in a desperate display. John had little skill in sucking someone off, but he made up for it with the sheer enthusiasm in which he put into the task. Spit dribbling down his chin as he gagged on your cock, his own hips twitching with the movement as having something in his mouth only stimulated him more.
You could see him rubbing his thighs together, stimulating his own hardness as he deepthroated you, tears running down his cheeks as he rubbed his tongue against the underside of your cock. Feeling pity for the blonde you used your telekinesis to wrap around him, feeling like a tight fist wrapped around his length under his suit. The sudden feeling made Homelander moan, the noise muffled by the length between his lips, his eyes falling shut as he started humping his hips as if to fuck the invisible fist around him,
Being as turned on as he was, it wasn’t a surprise that John came quite quickly, spilling in his boxers and the inside of his suit, high pitched whines falling from his lips as he tried his best to keep sucking, bopping his head in uneven movements as his head swam with an orgasm. The feeling of his orgasm washed over you in return, your telepathy making it almost impossible to not feel it alongside him.
Pulling out of his mouth he whined, his mouth hanging open as he finally opened his eyes again to look up at you. John stuck out his tongue as he watched you wrap your fist around yourself, jerking your length as he let out quiet huffs and groans, his toes curling in his boots as he watched you get closer and closer. When you finally came you let it shoot all over his face, watching as some of it get all the way into his messy hair, though most of it struck his mouth to which John moaned. He waited until you were done cumming until he tucked his tongue back into his mouth, wanting to taste you as much as possible.
You both were silent for a moment, both panting to catch your breaths and come down from your orgasms. When you finally released the telekinetic hold you had on John he slumped forwards, having gotten used to not having to support his own weight. You were quick to catch him, helping him to his unsteady feet as he leant against you for support, tucking his head into your neck as he shivered and whimpered.
Sighing you ran a hand through his hair, causing Homelander to lean back into your hand like a cat, you realized you couldn’t leave him like this. You made sure to clean up his face, making sure he was doing okay before you picked him up in a princess carry, kicking off the ground as you started flying back to your home. John could only tuck in close against you, completely having forgotten why he was sent to kill you in the first place because he was so comfortable and relaxed.

Critical readings of Herman Melville’s novella “Benito Cereno” (1855/56) rarely consider the significance of the Pacific island and coastal settings of a story grounded in the transatlantic slave trade. While Melville’s canonical tale about a slave uprising on the ship San Dominick, and its detection and suppression by an American captain has been insightfully discussed in the context of Paul Gilroy’s black Atlantic paradigm and New World slavery, the tale, in fact, starts off the coast of Chile, near the island of Santa María, and ends in Lima, the capital city of the Viceroyalty of Peru, where the rebellious slaves are tried and executed [...].
“Benito Cereno” is prophetic regarding the violent imperial scenarios that would come to characterize US–Pacific relations in this period, with America “Pushing Out Pacific Frontiers” already since mid-century and creating what John Eperjesi calls “the American Pacific,” an economic and cultural frontier, both politically and in literature. Eperjesi defines the American Pacific as [...] “a regional, or regionalizing [Orientalist] myth,” and “a space of conflict,” with the possessive American expressing the “will to mastery and control that has led to the Americanization of the Pacific,” and continuing a providential national design eventually leading to the “Pacific Century.” Arif Dirlik’s concept of the “Euro-American Pacific” (1992) likewise emphasizes transnational exchanges, alliances, and rivalries fundamental for the spread of capitalist relations in the Pacific realm.
Just as the pursuit of the sperm whale “began in the Atlantic and gradually pulled American whalers up the coast of Chile and then across the Pacific” and as the gruesome Pacific sealing industry took off, the African (and later Pacific Islander) slave trade entered this maritime region.
---
In “Benito Cereno,” the colonial Atlantic becomes metaphorical to the degree that conflictuous power relations among Old and New World agents as well as their (enslaved) Others are carried from one ocean to another. At the same time, the novella remains historically grounded as it re-constructs these Atlantic relations in the Pacific in a historically specific hemispheric continuum, a “transoceanic imaginary” of slavery and piracy. Unlike the myth-building texts that Eperjesi examines, [...] “Benito Cereno” imagines the Pacific as more complicated, a space of contradiction beyond stable colonial binaries, between metaphor and historicity, between possibility (for revolt and the renegotiation of justice/legitimacy; for a black Pacific counterculture) and the continuity of unequal, racialized power relations [...]. Oddly, the tale thus both highlights Peru as a crucial Pacific agent in the context of the South American trade to Manila during the formation of the early modern Pacific, including transpacific slave traffic, and foreshadows Peruvian slavery in Polynesia in the early 1860s [...]. Blackbirding, the raiding of Melanesian and Polynesian coasts for slaves, represented a “trans-Pacific fate” with the rise of white supremacy in the Pacific since mid-century. Indigenous populations were racialized as colored already at the end of the eighteenth century, which facilitated rationalizing their enslavement [...].
---
Susan Gillman and Kirsten Silva Gruesz have read the novella as Melville’s “most overtly hemispheric work” as it maps out “a New World or ‘Americas’ history of race-slavery and colonialism, revolt and revolution.”
Melville’s novella, a Gothic tale of haunting and enchantment pervaded by the imagery of death, ghosts, and a deep sense of gloom (e.g. 38, 55, 62), creates a bleak rather than black Atlantic/Pacific continuum. Reaching the Pacific, the black Atlantic, as a counterculture of resistance against Western notions of culture, has turned into a bleak version of itself. Scholars have criticized that the novella leaves no space for utopian possibility or “remedial action,” “no […] hope about the fruitful merging of cultures”; “[b]ecause of the question of race, we are not saved, we remain in the shadow” in an “aprogressive narrative[] of modernity” that resists closure and historical teleology. [...]
---
The tale yokes together Europe, Africa, the Atlantic, the Americas, and the Pacific as tainted by the institution of slavery and by piracy. As Lawrie Balfour concludes, the novella’s “great, troubling success may consist most dramatically in its capacity to foreshadow dangers that would linger long after the storm.” In this light, US-American perceptions of itself as exceptional in, and pushing forward, world history appear as self-complacent, continuing to repress the shadow of “the negro” (101) while simultaneously emulating the hegemonic ambitions of Old World powers. Indeed, “Benito Cereno” asks a fundamental question about slavery [...] and hence is both a central question for the Atlantic and the Pacific: “what in human relations gives rise to slavery and what slavery gives rise to in human relations.” [...]
The novella’s Pacific triangle, continuing the socio-cultural and political effectuality of the triangular trade, reaches back to the Panamanian isthmus, which was crossed in the late seventeenth century by Anglo pirates like Dampier, to Cape Horn as the main maritime entry point to the Pacific, and to Lima as one of the centers of Pacific slavery. While the novella negotiates national tensions in the 1850s, “recast[ing] the collective consciousness of the nation through a critique of New World slavery,” its geography can “help us to re-encounter the histories of those Pacific shores in ways that make the kinds of problems represented […] by the ‘Atlantic’ more than a specter.”

It’s August already and the summer is almost over. Time really does fly by. June and July were tiny blips on the calendar. It feels like just last week that spring classes were ending and summer classes beginning.
School will be starting up again in a few short weeks. We’ll have a full cohort of students back on campus. The lines for coffee will be never ending and a free parking space will be nowhere to be found. Life will definitely get more exciting.
UCF Libraries faculty and staff suggested a stack of books to help you get back in the mindset for learning. They range from academic subjects to fun fiction to college success tips. Welcome to the 2018-19 academic year!
Click on the link below to see the full list, descriptions, and catalog links for the featured Back-so-School titles suggested by UCF Library employees. These 20 books plus many more are also on display on the 2nd (main) floor of the John C. Hitt Library next to the bank of two elevators.
A Separate Peace by John Knowles Set at a boys' boarding school in New England during the early years of World War II, A Separate Peace is a harrowing and luminous parable of the dark side of adolescence. Gene is a lonely, introverted intellectual. Phineas is a handsome, taunting, daredevil athlete. What happens between the two friends one summer, like the war itself, banishes the innocence of these boys and their world. Suggested by Larry Cooperman, Research & Information Services, and Meg Scharf, Administration

But she is surprised when he seems to like her back.  Instead of finding new heights of self-assurance in her relationship with Bo, Will starts to doubt herself. So she sets out to take back her confidence by doing the most horrifying thing she can imagine: entering the Miss Teen Blue Bonnet Pageant—along with several other unlikely candidates—to show the world that she deserves to be up there as much as any twiggy girl does.Along the way, she’ll shock the hell out of Clover City—and maybe herself most of all. Everything Belongs to Us by Yoojin Grace Wuertz             This debut novel takes place at the elite Seoul National University in 1970s South Korea during the final years of a repressive regime. The novel follows the fates of two women--Jisun, the daughter of a powerful tycoon, who eschews her privilege to become an underground labor activist in Seoul; and Namin, her best friend from childhood, a brilliant, tireless girl who has grown up with nothing, and whose singular goal is to launch herself and her family out of poverty. Drawn to both of these women is Sunam, a seeming social-climber who is at heart a lost boy struggling to find his place in a cutthroat world. And at the edges of their friendship is Junho, whose ambitions have taken him to new heights in the university's most prestigious social club, called "the circle," and yet who guards a dangerous secret that is tied to his status. Wuertz explores the relationships that bind these students to each other, as well as the private anxieties and desires that drive them to succeed. Suggested by Sara Duff, Acquisitions & Collections
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell Being consummate fans of the Simon Snow series helped Cath and her twin sister, Wren, cope as little girls whose mother left them, but now, as they start college but not as roommates, Cath fears she is unready to live without Wren holding her hand--and without her passion for Snow. Suggested by Sara Duff, Acquisitions & Collections, and Emma Gisclair, Curriculum Materials Center
Free Speech on Campus by Erwin Chemerinsky and Howard Gillman Hardly a week goes by without another controversy over free speech on college campuses. On one side, there are increased demands to censor hateful, disrespectful, and bullying expression and to ensure an inclusive and nondiscriminatory learning environment. On the other side are traditional free speech advocates who charge that recent demands for censorship coddle students and threaten free inquiry. In this clear and carefully reasoned book, a university chancellor and a law school dean—both constitutional scholars who teach a course in free speech to undergraduates—argue that campuses must provide supportive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body but can never restrict the expression of ideas. This book provides the background necessary to understanding the importance of free speech on campus and offers clear prescriptions for what colleges can and can’t do when dealing with free speech controversies. Suggested by Richard Harrison, Research & Information Services
How to Survive Without Your Parents' Money: making it from college to the real world by Geoff Martz Offers sound advice to both students and graduates, including tips on resumes, cover letters, and interviews; using job placement centers; alternative job options; and more. Suggested by Sandy Avila, Research & Information Services
Originals: How Non-conformists Move the World by Adam Grant How can we originate new ideas, policies, and practices without risking it all? Using surprising studies and stories spanning business, politics, sports, and entertainment, Grant explores how to recognize a good idea, speak up without getting silenced, build a coalition of allies, choose the right time to act, and manage fear and doubt; how parents and teachers can nurture originality in children; and how leaders can fight groupthink to build cultures that welcome dissent. Suggested by Tina Buck, Acquisitions & Collections
Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate In Seven Ways We Lie, a chance encounter tangles the lives of seven high school students, each resisting the allure of one of the seven deadly sins, and each telling their story from their seven distinct points of view. Riley Redgate’s twisty YA debut effortlessly weaves humor, heartbreak, and redemption into a drama that fans of Jenny Han and Stephanie Perkins will adore. Suggested by Megan Haught, Teaching & Engagement/Research & Information Services
Stephen Florida by Gabe Habash Foxcatcher meets The Art of Fielding, Stephen Florida follows a college wrestler in his senior season, when every practice, every match, is a step closer to greatness and a step further from sanity. Profane, manic, and tipping into the uncanny, it's a story of loneliness, obsession, and the drive to leave a mark. Suggested by Sara Duff, Acquisitions & Collections
The Case for Contention: Teaching Controversial Subjects in American Schools by Jonathan Zimmerman and Emily Robertson From the fights about the teaching of evolution to the details of sex education, it may seem like American schools are hotbeds of controversy. But as Jonathan Zimmerman and Emily Robertson show in this insightful book, it is precisely because such topics are so inflammatory outside school walls that they are so commonly avoided within them. And this, they argue, is a tremendous disservice to our students. Armed with a detailed history of the development of American educational policy and norms and a clear philosophical analysis of the value of contention in public discourse, they show that one of the best things American schools should do is face controversial topics dead on, right in their classrooms. Suggested by Richard Harrison, Research & Information Services
The Gift of Fear: survival signals that protect us from violence by Gavin de Becker Covering all the dangerous situations people typically face -- street crime, domestic abuse, violence in the workplace -- de Becker provides real-life examples and offers specific advice on restraining orders, self-defense, and more. But the key to self-protection, he demonstrates, is learning how to trust -- and act on -- our own intuitions. Suggested by Megan Haught, Teaching & Engagement/Research & Information Services
The Heart Aroused: poetry and the preservation of the soul in corporate America by David Whyte In The Heart Aroused, David Whyte brings his unique perspective as poet and consultant to the workplace, showing readers how fulfilling work can be when they face their fears and follow their dreams. Going beneath the surface concerns about products and profits, organization and order, Whyte addresses the needs of the heart and soul, and the fears and desires that many workers keep hidden. Suggested by Rebecca Hawk, Circulation
The Idiot by Elif Batuman A portrait of the artist as a young woman. A novel about not just discovering but inventing oneself. The Idiot is a heroic yet self-effacing reckoning with the terror and joy of becoming a person in a world that is as intoxicating as it is disquieting. Batuman's fiction is unguarded against both life's affronts and its beauty--and has at its command the complete range of thinking and feeling which they entail. Suggested by Sara Duff, Acquisitions & Collections
The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch with Jeffrey Zaslow    When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didn't have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave--"Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams"--wasn't about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment (because "time is all you have...and you may find one day that you have less than you think"). It was a summation of everything Randy had come to believe. It was about living. Suggested by Renee Montgomery, Teaching & Engagement
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie is Spark’s masterpiece, a novel that offers one of twentieth-century English literature’s most iconic and complex characters—a woman at once admirable and sinister, benevolent and conniving. Suggested by Meg Scharf, Administration
Verbal Judo: words for street survival by George J. Thompson This book will help police officers and other contact professionals develop verbal strategies that can transform potentially explosive encounters into positive resolutions. It addresses the most difficult problems of the street encounter where quick thinking and spontaneous verbal response often make the difference between life and death. The author explores all kinds of confrontation rhetoric and offers both a theoretical and practical account of how to handle street situations. The principles and techniques described can be used in practically every verbal encounter. Each chapter includes case studies that give readers practice in developing rhetorical strategies for handling street encounters and dealing with the public. Suggested by Rebecca Hawk, Circulation
We Demand: the university and student protests by Roderick A. Ferguson In We Demand, Roderick A. Ferguson demonstrates that less than fifty years since this pivotal shift in the academy, the university is moving away from “the people” in all their diversity. Today the university is refortifying its commitment to the defense of the status quo off campus and the regulation of students, faculty, and staff on campus. The progressive forms of knowledge that the student-led movements demanded and helped to produce are being attacked on every front. Not only is this a reactionary move against the social advances since the ’60s and ’70s—it is part of the larger threat of anti-intellectualism in the United States.  Suggested by Richard Harrison, Research & Information Services
What the Best College Teachers Do by Ken Bain What makes a great teacher great? Who are the professors students remember long after graduation? The short answer is--it's not what teachers do, it's what they understand. Lesson plans and lecture notes matter less than the special way teachers comprehend the subject and value human learning. Whether historians or physicists, in El Paso or St. Paul, the best teachers know their subjects inside and out--but they also know how to engage and challenge students and to provoke impassioned responses. Most of all, they believe two things fervently: that teaching matters and that students can learn. Suggested by Renee Montgomery, Teaching & Engagement

Hey gator, can you make a fic of Homelander dating a trans reader?
(Also you’re doing amazing, I’m so proud of you, and you’re flipping cool :D)
John Gillman/Homelander x ftm reader
Headcanons
Tumblr media
Im gonna ignore the fact that Homelander would definitely be transphobic in canon, and write this in my canon where I make the rules.
John probably wouldn’t get it in the beginning, as he was definitely raised not being told about the LGBTQ community by vought, outside of the fact that it didn’t meet Americas standards. So, imagine his surprise when he starts having feelings for you, a man.
You weren’t even another hero, you were just a member of the marketing team who worked closer to The Seven than the rest. Maybe it was the fact that you didn’t fawn over them or fear them, or how you didn’t seem to put up with their shit when they made impossible demands.
The only one you seemed to get along with in the beginning was Black Noir and Starlight, as they were both polite in their own ways.
John couldn’t figure out what it was about you, and it would take some time before he realized you were trans, which he’s able to figure out pretty quickly with his x-ray vision. Whether you wear a binder, have top and bottom surgery, or a third thing, he can spot it, since you would look different than cis guys.
He doesn’t know what to do with that information, especially since he’s already attracted to you and has tried to woo you in his own, showboaty way. Its kinda like watching a peacock strutting around trying to attract a mate.
Homelander is very bad at it though, and is kinda obvious about it too, maybe only to you though. Hes cute in his own way though, as he reminds you of a puppy at times, a very dangerous puppy with laser eyes, so in the end you make take the step and ask him out.
John would sputter and blush, but agree to go on a date. Hes never been one for privacy, so expect a lot of questions about being trans, even very intimate ones that you wouldn’t normally ask a stranger.
I can’t say hed be a great boyfriend, but that’s not because you are trans or anything. It’s mainly because he’s just not a good person in general, and he’s very busy as the leader of The Seven and keeping up his ratings.
But if your fine with both of you having busy schedules, him breaking into your apartment at any time of the day, and him not being public about your relationship as it would ruin his ratings, then I say go for it.
I don’t think he would go out of his way to research the trans experience, as he has you to answer all his questions if he has any. John doesn’t end up caring much about gender as a whole, but he will finance any surgeries or treatment if you want any, because he loves you and shows it through pampering you any chance he gets.
If you have breasts though, he would mourn if you got top surgery, since hed want them in his mouth all the time. But just give him something else to fixate on, and he will be fine. Be it your fingers or your next chest, or something third.
If you just wear a binder, expect him to keep a very close eye on your ribcage with his x-ray vision, and expect to be scolded if you wear it for too long, or if he can see it damaging your ribs. He would probably go out of his way to rip it right off you If you have worn it too long, he will just buy you a new one anyways.
All in all, he’s supportive in his own ways, even though those ways can be… questionable at times. He never actually questions if you are a man or not, and never misgenders you, and lashes out as anyone who does, but he does lack behind in certain areas. John does his best with what he’s got though.
