Jin.
How could it be possible that a man with no unnatural powers would be at the centre of a family of supervillains? Few know, but fewer still question it. It goes unsaid that Jin is indispensable to Namjoon, and an integral part of the safe haven that is filled with the most dangerous men in Seoul.

reasons they go to the gym (ikepri)
jin- strength and aesthetics. he’s building muscles to please the ladies. probably lifts light for his capabilities but he goes for a lot of sets and reps. he also somehow knows everyone there?
chevalier- strength only. bro can move some weight and he doesn’t say anything to anyone. very respectful and strangely quiet.
clavis- he’s on his villain arc. guilty of ego lifting because he once saw chevalier lift heavy. but he’s there to get stronger like chevalier.
leon- works out so he can eat whatever he wants. the physique is just a bonus i guess. he’s respectful, but unlike chevalier he’s talkative. a good spotter and very motivating.
yves- yeah i still strongly believe he just does yoga or some flexibility stuff. maybe he does dance if the gym offers classes.
licht- he’s on his depression arc. he never skips leg day he does leg day just to feel something. also never says anything to anyone, but will spot you if you asked.
nokto- im not sure why he’s here, i think he’s also working out for aesthetics. he’s not the most muscular person but he’s more toned. also takes dance classes with yves (sometimes yves gets embarrassed when his little brother tags along)
luke- bro goes for fun. jin suggested he move some weight around. jin was surprised by his sheer strength. so now i guess luke just likes it?
gilbert- no reason? he just goes on the cycling machine because you can just sit down and petal at whatever speed you want. sometimes he goes on the elliptical. he’s always got this weirdly gleeful smile on his face (he’s also out of breath)
silvio- he be fighting demons too ngl. i think he would go just to keep in shape. if they have a pool, he also swims 4-5 times a week.
rio- also to stay in shape, but if you ask him why, he will tell you it’s so he can better serve emma. like silvio, he also goes for a swim.
keith- only alter keith goes to the gym. nice keith gets anxiety at the gym. it’s just something about working out in front of other people that just feels too awkward. they don’t go very often, but if you see him, 99% chance you’ll be talking to alter keith idk
sariel- very much like gilbert. but he doesn’t have time.

I just want to talk about the curious connection between Dabi and Mr. Compress.
When MVA starts, we have 6 members of the LoV, these 6 are the most recognized members. While everyone in the LoV are connected because they share a lot of between themselves, each member have their partner. This duos are thematically connected, their characters share more specific things and usually, their best relationship in the LoV are with this partner. These duos are formed around the main 3 villains: Toga and Jin/Twice (the most notorious duo), Tomura/Tenko and Shuichi/Spinner, and Dabi/Touya and Mr. Compress/Atsuhiro.
A lot was and is talked about the first two duos, so let's focus on the third one.
I think it's not a surprise that despite the fact that Touya didn't want to get along a lot with the LoV, he did. And the one who weirdly had and has a better relationship (the best Touya can do) is Atsuhiro. The two mysterious ones.
What they have in common?
Theater/Dance theme, performance as the core of how they show themselves: While Atsuhiro is more "dramatical" and elegant, we know Touya, when it comes to showing before his family, he does his act, certain poses, phrases, etc, it's more like gothic literature btw (he is like Frankenstein's monster) Both share this theater theme/aesthetic, it's obvious, it's the first trait that its presented about Atsuhiro. While in Touya's case, is something we see later.
The family heritage and believing they are an extension of certain relative, the core of their stories: Core piece of their stories is about the accomplishment of his family heritage, the importance of their family ties.
Touya puts emphasis on being Endeavor's son, explaining that he does what he does because of being his son. He is Endeavor's projection, his continuation, his extension.
Atsuhiro puts emphasis on being Oji Harima's descendant, explaing he does what he does because he has to do what Oji Harima did. He has his blood, he sees himself as his continuation, his extension.
Atsuhiro himself highlights that Touya and him share this thing about being part of certain lineage.
Both let their lifes be about this relative, making it the core of their decisions and actions.
Of course it's extremely different what they lived but the point here is the essential part of the influence of family heritage in their lives.
New identity: Easy, Touya died, Dabi was born.
Atsuhiro before was a magician, an entertainer. But now he is Mr. Compress.
They new identity are their choice, it isn't a reference to someone else, and it's not only a new name and look, it's a whole new life purpose, their new self.
Both hid their true appearances, and revealing themselves is a big show.
Dabi's Dance and Final Performance: Touya's revelation and Atsuhiro's escape "act" are events that happened next to each other. In fact, one is ch. 290 and the other ch. 294. Atsuhiro's revelation follows Touya's. He starts the show with his dance, and Atsuhiro finish it with the League's escape. It all start with Touya first move of presenting himself as Touya Todoroki and ends with Atsuhiro's reverence. And they use the same stage for their show.
Both chapters have this curious theme about staging and their performances. For Touya its the beginning of his show, while for Atushiro, its the final. It's literally in the titles, the show theme is so important.
In these chapters, both reveal their real appearance and present their family ties and how important they are for who they are now.
Another detail is that the last one that Atsuhiro compressed is Touya, giving him something like a high five, looking like some takeover for Touya. Now he is the principal performer, the principal entertainer, it's his show, the beginning of it.
Self destruction as their show: Atsuhiro mutilated himself making the great escape for his friends. He didn't stop until Mirio punched him, but even being hurt, the show didn't stop. Touya is burning himself even more for his show. In Dabi's Dance he burned more parts of his skin, and during this final arc, he looks like a corpse, and it's crucial to his "show", his last show. Also, both do this using their quirks.

Jojo openings ranked
To be clear I love ALL the Jojo openings just some more than others
Tumblr media
Traitor's Requiem- My favorite for sure. WATERMELON BUCHURATI WITH TRISH'S HAND. TRISH FALLING INTO A DIFFERENT COLOR SCHEME. I love how the beginning goes from slow to fast. This op makes me proud to be a Jojo fan. Not to mention the alternate ending with Diavalo speaking Italian. ALSO THE PART WHERE GIORNO TAKES THE ENDING BACK FROM DIAVALO. IT MAKES ME FANGIRL SO HARD I WILL LISTEN TO IT THREE TIMES FOR ALL THE DIFFERENT ENDINGS AND GIORNO'S DIO POSE
Tumblr media
2. Great Days- Best part 4 op hands. Rohan is serving cunt, the song is catchy, YOSIKAGE KIRA REVERSING IT ALL. It's perfect and I love it, very close to my heart
Tumblr media
3. STONE OCEAN- I adore the pop art aesthetic and the vocals. FIRST SOLO FEMALE JOJO OP SINGER GOES HARD!! It's so pretty and Jolyne is beautiful. Loving the return to CGI
Tumblr media
4. Fighting Gold- Bussin. This op is so hype. I don't care that some of the visuals are a bit goofy. Coda popped off with this one (as usual)
Tumblr media
5. Heaven's Falling Down- It's such a perfect song for part 6. Having Sana, the singer of Mob Psycho's ops, was such a flex. Jolyne is an absolute goddess (can you tell that I simp for her) and I love how she looked. Unfortunately, the visuals were not as striking as the first op. However, the Pucci ending easily made up for it as the best Jojo villain intervention
Tumblr media
6. Sono Chi No Sadame- It's literally just iconic. The 3D animation goes hard and I will forever remember it as the op that got me into Jojo. ALSO THE JOLYNE CAMEO AT THE END
Tumblr media
7. Bloody Stream- I love the colorful and smooth animation. LISA LISA MILF. Not my favorite song by Coda (see #4) but definitely still a banger
Tumblr media
8. End Of The World- TOMMY, Coda and JIN collaborating for this song was the best decision ever made. Also, Dio's The World intervention slaps so hard! HIS SWAGGER. The Kakyoin scene gave me chills
Tumblr media
9. Stand Proud- I love the callbacks to the earlier Jojos and fighting animation plus the vibrant coloring. All the crusaders walking as the atmosphere changes is one of my favorite scenes in Jojo. Still think the other part 3 op is better tho
Tumblr media
10. Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town- Kinda mid ngl. I still like it but the vibes were not very jojoesque to me
Tumblr media
11. Chase- My least favorite but it's still a dope op. It just sounds kinda generic compared to the other Jojo openings. The visuals are still impeccable and I love the pastel coloring

BNHA 395 - Thoughts
I’m leaning towards liking this chapter, though probably for completely different reasons than the majority of fandom.
No, I don’t think it’s a good end to Toga’s character, but that’s fine because I don’t believe she’s dead or that’s even the point.
If she is, it will go down as a pathetic bury your gays ending for her, that I’ll hate even if I don’t particularly care about the ship itself.
What I liked about this chapter is that it feels like it’s going back towards the overall narrative direction.
I was not a fan of how “easy” Ochako got the saving of the hearts part (compared to everyone else’s efforts, it felt hugely unfair) - and for me it really cheapened their fight as it felt excessively sentimental (in the unearned sense) and melodramatic.
But the fact that Toga despite having been touched by Ochako’s acceptance is still suicidal and still doesn’t see a future for herself.
It brings to the surface the ultimate issue with saving the villains - that if their choice is death or prison, it makes it hard to de-escalate even if a connection is made.
So I’ve been thinking that maybe the point of this overly syrupy presentation is to paint a picture. Both to the fandom and to the public in story who are watching this unfold in real time through the news helicopters.
Two pretty girls connecting, saving each other, Toga who has been used already as propaganda by the PLF publicly sacrificing herself can be the human interest story that will change the public mood and make them open to the villain’s redemption.
Touya and Tomura couldn’t do this - they are not as sympathetic as a schoolgirl with the tragic vampire aesthetic.
So currently the world offers no alternative to the villains, but maybe a third way can become possible where redemption can be earned via good deeds (like how Toga could help out in hospitals rather than die or be locked away).
The second thing I liked was Hawks. I was looking forward most to his involvement in this storyline and I felt really let down when he seemingly had no role. However, seeing him also near suicidal, just accepting or even welcoming his fate was the kind of raw emotions I wanted from him.
He’s all alone now - having failed his goal, he lost his quirk, his idol rejoined his family. As the Twice clones are turning to dust, he doesn’t have to protect the fallen kids anymore, and Hawks puts down his sword and almost invites a last act of revenge.
But the narrative doesn’t let Hawks die and I think it will be because he’s going to have to face himself as Keigo. Without quirk, without hero paraphernalia, without the family he invented for himself. He is symbolically stripped down to his core self and he will discover what he can do and what he is about.
And I think for now, he can save Toga and for later, he as the heir to the HPSC can be the person to spearhead the bold changes in society that can give an option to people who fell on the wrong path to pull their life back together. People like Jin, people like Tomie.

Looking for an honest opinion: Is TTEOTM worth watching for its story as a whole? As someone who isn't interested in watching a drama simply to fawn over an ML. It looked interesting but most posts I see are focused on ML (& his looks lol) and hey, that's great! But I'm interested in a well-rounded story with a great FL who isn't an accessory to the plot, good side characters, etc. I'm willing to check it out but don't want to waste my time on something that will let me down…
Short answer with 5 episodes to go - yes the story overall is worth it.
Longer answer - the show can be very inconsistent.
The Good:
The main storyline between the ML and FL is excellent. They are messed up but grow as characters (even if they are still a bit messed up). The decisions they make are consistent to their characters, even if they frustrate you at times. They love each other so much even if it's not always the healthiest love
FL is not just an accessory to the plot. She has her own trauma and I think she drives the plot at points.
The ML is a fairly complex character who you basically root for him to A) destroy everyone B) just have some peace. Also, Luo Yunxi is killing it as Tantai Jin - way more than just a pretty face.
I really love some of the secondary characters. They have their own story to tell.
The villains are a bit hit or miss but mostly I'm okay with them. One female villain in particular is really good
Aesthetically, it looks amazing - the magic, the costumes. And the subs are WILD.
The Bad:
The main secondary characters/couple are bad. We're probably supposed to root for them but at this point I actively resent the screen time they get. I don't think I've seen a single post from the TTEOTM fandom here supporting them (unlike the other secondary couple we have). Bingchang is awful in every lifetime. Xiao Lin is aggressively boring in every lifetime.
One particular arc went on too long and was really boring in parts though it is fairly important to the current plot.
The torture of the ML has gotten to absurd levels. Same as the characters spitting up blood and having it artistically dribble down their chin.
I can't say if you'd enjoy it but the only way you can tell if you watch a couple of episodes.
I'm still watching so obviously I think it's worth it. Even if I am hesitating to watch the final 5 episodes because I'm not sure if it will all go to hell and I would hate, hate a bad ending after all the ML & FL went through. Ep 35 is a perfectly fine end point, even with the unfinished plot lines.

kerberos final comments
ok, i think this is the end of the latest week where i take a semi-deep dive into a semi-obscure film series from the 80s-90s. after all’s said and done, then... what the hell was going on with this thing? does it manage to justify, you know... that?
So. About the Nazi thing.
If we start with the manga, Kerberos is a essentially similar concept to Ghost in the Shell (which is ofc in Japanese 攻殻機動隊 Kōkaku Kidōtai, “Mobile Armored Riot Police”) or Patlabor. It’s about a heavily armed, ethically dubious near-future paramilitary police force, the sort of people you’d find in such an organisation, and the political context that created it. Compared to GitS, its characters are much less vividly defined, but like GitS, it largely reacts to the world through the lens of Kerberos, and to a certain extent their rivals Public Security. Plotlines in Kerberos concern the individual lives of Kerberos soldiers, or the machinations of their leaders trying to expand the organisation and squabbling over territory with the normal police. It’s full of dog metaphors
Incidentally, if you’ve seen Jin-Roh, you’ve seen a better version of the first three storylines in the manga. The fourth one concerns radicals hijacking a plane, drawing on the actions of radical groups in the 70s. The leader of the the radicals takes more of a centre stage, although his motivations are kinda opaque at the end of the day; he seems like a prototype of the villain Yukihito Tsuge in Patlabor 2, at least in terms of affect, but he dies before his hijacking can get very far.
All of that on the face of it sounds reasonably interesting! The art of the manga is very nice in an Otomo-inspired sort of way, and while none of the characters are especially sympathetic, it’s a convincing window into an interesting historical pastiche.
But the first thing you’d ever notice about Kerberos is that they dress like this:
Tumblr media
...big scary Nazis with glowing red eyes. That’s the iconic image of the series, and just about every work makes sure to have some scenes of a guy dressed like that machine gunning some poor unarmored sods, to greater or lesser dramatic effect depending on whether or not you’re Hiroyuki Okiura.
So my biggest question going into Kerberos is like, why do they dress up like weird Nazi space marine cosplayers?
Diegetically, it’s because Japan lost WWII to the Nazis, who used a nuke. Most Kerberos media that I’ve encountered doesn’t especially seem to bother spelling that out, but Jin-Roh - easily the most artistically accomplished of any Kerberos media, sorry Oshii - goes far enough to illustrate it with historical-photo styled still images of Nazi soldiers marching up the streets of Japan:
Tumblr media
In Jin-Roh, at least, Kerberos are clearly continuous with this occupation, with an almost identical shot of Kerberos soldiers marching shortly after:
Tumblr media
How did Japan end up in a war with Germany, a country that notably does not border the Pacific, and how the hell did they end up losing so badly as to be occupied when Germany lost the war hard even with Japan’s help in reality? (Who indeed fought the war besides Japan and Germany?) But none of the Kerberos media I’ve read have tried to address this wider geopolitical situation; the role of replacing the Americans with the Nazis seems to be to just slap a lot of WWII-era German aesthetics in a rather superficial way: replace an airline with Lufthansa here, or have the slogans of the protestors mention Lebensraum or Weimar there.
Tumblr media
‘Nothing would have been much different if the Nazis occupied Japan instead of the Americans’ is a statement that would have a lot to unpack (an anti-American statement? discomfort over being allied with the Nazis?), but I’m not sure it’s really what Kerberos is going for. If you look at otaku-oriented media from this period, you do notice a current of Nazi military equipment obsession (which hasn’t exactly gone away, indeed acquiring increasingly esoteric iterations) coming from the ‘military otaku’ side of the subculture.
For example, in Gainax’s FLCL, there’s an episode where Naota’s father Kamon is dressed in a Nazi uniform for a paintball episode (the same one which has parodies of Western animation like South Park), complete with swastika:
Tumblr media
Likewise, Oshii’s adaptation of Urusei Yatsura also has a few recurring bits with Nazi imagery, generally played for jokes. For example, in the second movie Beautiful Dreamer characters dress up a café with a WWII theme with a bunch of Nazi symbols, which is discussed well by Hazel in her video on Vladlove (around 11:40 if the timecode doesn’t work)...
youtube
So there’s definitely a sense that in the subculture at this time, Nazi imagery doesn’t have the ‘definitely an edgelord, almost certainly an actual fascist’ connotation that it does over here. In Western media meanwhile, Nazis are generally used as the ultimate villains over whom we were victorious, suitable for when you portray some morally uncomplicated violence. So putting in these scary Nazi suits as your main characters feels like a really dramatic statement to me, but it may not have been for Oshii.
Nevertheless, let’s see where we go with it. My general approach to the Kerberos films has been to assume that Kerberos members are by default unsympathetic, it’s drilling into the fucked up depths of fash ideology, and Kerberos certainly admits that reading. A lot of the Kerberos manga concerns the organisation’s overly violent methods and eagerness to accumulate arms causing escalations and needless deaths left right and centre.
Jin-Roh especially shows Kerberos’s conspiratorial ‘Wolf Brigade’ carrying out a ruthless purge of their enemies to preserve their organisation, and then performing a completely fucked loyalty test by demanding that Fuse murder his girlfriend to prove his dedication to being a ‘wolf’. In contrast to the stylised theatric approach of Oshii’s violence, Jin-Roh’s scenes of bodies being cut down by machine guns are about as sickening and hyperreal as animation can make them - they are honestly far nastier than they would be in live action.
In Jin-Roh, the Metropolitan Police come off every bit as fanatical as they describe their enemies. The revolutionaries aren’t necessarily cast in a particularly positive light, with Kei as the main member of the Sect to get extensive screen time - and she finds herself thoroughly disillusioned with being a bomb courier as she gets drawn into the machinations of Kerberos and Public Security. But, even with the playing around the ‘who is the wolf’ concept, by the end we see Okiura’s take on Oshii’s endless dog metaphors is that committing to Kerberos is to decide to assume the role of the rapacious wolf of Red Riding Hood, who would shoot anyone to preserve the unit.
But what about Oshii’s manga? I talked about how Oshii was of the Anpo generation, and certainly the Anpo demonstrations - and the various desperate terrorist actions of the New Left that came after - sit barely under the surface. However, the point of view it’s interested in seems to be much more the lower ranking members of Kerberos. Like dogs - good god is this man obsessed with dogs lmao - the Kerberos guys are blindly loyal, have little other place in society, and are unceremoniously disposed of every so often. The main characters of the films feature here and there - notably Bunmei is the one scheming against Kerberos here, recognisably modeled after his depiction in The Red Spectacles, and Midori gets to stop the plane hijacking - but it’s as likely to focus on a low-ranking soldier (the first Inui, model for Fuse) or a helicopter pilot. There is not, by and large, a lot of internal conflict for any of the characters.
Tachiguishi Retsuden, although it seems a different alternate history again, gives another piece of the puzzle. (Unfortunately the only subtitles I can find for this movie are badly translated from the Chinese subs, which makes it a little hard to follow.) The stand-up noodle bars are associated not just with crime but with stray dogs, who were poisoned in large numbers as a health control measure; this image is also shown in the Urusei Yatsura episode that invented the ‘tachiguishi’ freeloader concept, where we see a dog and a cat fighting outside. Oshii clearly sees something tragic in the extermination of these dogs who had no place in the more modern society, and seems to find this a suitable metaphor for his fascist paramilitary.
To me, the idea that the Kerberos were heroic in suppressing the crime and protests seemed like an obvious propagandistic fantasy, and given the choice I’m obviously gonna sympathise more with the leftist rebels rather than the Nazi-backed state in this conflict, even if the situation has decayed as civil wars do into a point where both sides are more concerned with self-preservation and ruling their turf than winning. Painting the state in Nazi colours then seems like a way of saying, don’t take this guys very sympathetically, and it’s definitely a convincing depiction of a bureaucratic state mired in infighting (no doubt because it’s drawing heavily from history).
But... I’m not entirely sure this is the angle Oshii is taking on it.
In StrayDog, lost puppy Inui searches Taiwan for daddy Kōichi to tell him what to do, with the help of a girl Tang Mie who kind of adopts these two exiles as they do their homoerotic bonding thing. They spend a long time wandering around Taiwan to slow music (it’s a very Oshii film), having muted conversations about Inui’s need to find a master to tell him what to do. Once the pair find Kōichi, although Inui is angry with Kōichi for abandoning Kerberos, they settle down and seem to be kind of happy just being some kind of lobster-fishing polycule. Inui here can’t be the same Inui as in the manga (since that Inui died), but he’s basically the same concept, a boy who is helpless without someone telling him what to do [there’s not exactly a consistent Kerberos continuity so much as variations on the same ideas].
Public Security are on the trail though, and Inui - loyal to Kōichi despite the fact that Kōichi is plainly not worth any sort of loyalty - overpowers him in order to carry out a power-armoured suicide by cop and give Kōichi a chance to escape (which we know that he uses to go to Japan and promptly get shot). If the action scenes in The Red Spectacles were weird disconnected montages that felt extremely theatrical, the action scene here, which sees Inui advancing through a building cutting down identically trenchcoated and facepainted men who run blindly towards him, feels mostly like a video game. In the end, Inui wins the battle but dies from it.
(Which means on the one hand, highly stylised and abstracted live action violence, and on the other, hyperrealistic animated violence with plausible military tactics and genuinely horrible depictions of gun death. Going in opposite directions from different starting points... I’d say they end up in a similar place, but tbh Jin-Roh, as in most things, is way more impactful.)
Anyway, StrayDog seems to have more of an “isn’t this sad” sort of flavour. The dog metaphor for Oshii in the manga is stated most explicitly in a scene shared with Jin-Roh, where Bunmei discusses disposing of the ‘Special Brigade’ in order to integrate Kerberos with the regular police. The dialogue in both versions is a speech full of dog metaphors, but in the manga, the scene is further introduced with a dead Kerberos member and a stray dog passing by. This metaphor then becomes central to StrayDog.
The manga’s Inui, like Fuse in Jin-Roh, hesitates before shooting and almost dies, but here the person he hesitates to shoot is not a bomb courier who’s prepared to take them both down, but a civilian who is trying to help one of the revolutionaries, who levels a gun at Inui. Inui’s story here is about failure to integrate into the Kerberos unit, who aren’t willing to accept this particular ‘stray dog’ despite there being no other place for him. Inui tries to prove himself with dramatic and reckless violence, gets rejected for refusing orders, and then on his way home, gets killed in a reprise of the first situation - oh this poor boy it’s so sad.
In Jin-Roh by contrast, Fuse’s hesitance to shoot is the first move in a whole character arc - at first it seems like his remaining humanity which he eventually abandons, but we are left with some ambiguity whether his original hesitance was genuine, and happened to pay off in the Wolf Brigade’s favour, or part of a very complicated ploy. (Despite being the central character, and even seeing his dream at one point, we’re given a lot of room to interpret Fuse, and the ‘why didn’t you shoot’ question is pointedly never answered.)
Anyway, so, my conclusion about all the Nazi imagery in Kerberos is... honestly I think Oshii just thought it’s cool? As we see in VladLove, he loves to just namedrop historical trivia. I’m not sure he even considers it as fraught as I do. Which isn’t fun but I feel like any other reading is unparsimonious at this point.
What is surprising is that Okiura managed to take what Oshii was putting down and make something genuinely compelling. Jin-Roh a real proof of the power of his realist style and ability to suggest character with subtle acting. Its realist animation becomes hyperreal, the abstraction of cel shading underlining how much is ‘right’ in how the drawing moves, and it works for what’s primarily a spy movie.
At the same time... Okiura did a way better job than Oshii ever did of making those scary Nazi suits seem powerful. Kerberos here are kind of the idealised supercop Judge Dredd types - I was reminded of the Dredd movie from a few years ago where Dredd unstoppably advances through a building, killing everyone in his way. Though maybe Robocop would be a more contemporary comparison.
It works for the movie, in that Fuse’s choice to side with Kerberos and use the armour to massacre the Public Safety agents moving to apprehend him is properly sickening. It becomes kind of like a horror movie at this point, with desperate attempts to stop him with grenades bouncing off the armour.
So I guess we’ve gotten back to the old question of the different ways of portraying violence in film, what a fascist film looks like etc. I don’t want to relitigate that one, although I think Okiura’s angle is appropriate - even if it is fetishistic? One Youtube commenter on the video essay I linked back on AniNight wrote:
Jin Roh is a movie about semi-realistic bullets physics. The creators be like: Guy 1: 'Hey, you know what's cool? Seeing dolls gets rag-dolled by flying bullets.'
and he’s kinda right lol, that is sorta what the movie is about. But it remains a very effective image, much like the gunfights and realistic educations in Dahufa.
All in all, I guess the result of this deep dive is basically the existing consensus: The Red Spectacles is worth digging up as a deeply weird surreal film; I wouldn’t bother with StrayDog, the manga’s OK but Jin-Roh is imo the only one that manages to justify what it’s trading in here.
And as far as all these Nazi images goes, the aspect of the Nazis we’re focusing on in any of these films is much more ‘fearsome invading and occupying power’ than ‘perpetrators of the Holocaust’. If Nazi ideology has influenced the reconstructed Japanese state in the world of Kerberos, the series never bothers to illustrate how. Despite everything... it really doesn’t seem to actually be about the Nazis on a level beyond the superficial. The conflict in Jin-Roh/the manga is basically a heightened version of Anpo, or like... any 20th-century anticolonial movement really. In the first two movies... idk, throwing darts at a board, the Meiji restoration doing away with the samurai lol?
Meanwhile Tachiguishi-Retsuden is kind of... ah, I know some of ya had fun with it, but honestly I found it dragged really badly. The janked out subs were a large part of that and I think a decent fansub could do it a lot of good, but I kind of felt like most of the gags went on too long to really work, even with the ‘spot the well known illustrator/anime director’ game it’s playing with the casting. Though maybe being tired after a long evening of films underlies that reaction, I need to learn my lesson about three-movie film nights. The animation style was interesting as an experiment at least.
And that’s quite enough of that, I think I’m satisfied. Though at some point as far as ‘fash aesthetics in anime’ go, I still haven’t gotten around to ripping Youjo Senki a new one. Expect that... sometime. It’s an exhausting anime to think about though so who knows when.

“Another creature. Marvelous. Why waste your genius on such mediocrity, Tamiyo?”
The compleated planeswalker smiled softly at the monstrous form of Jin-Gitaxias looming over her. “Because, my praetor, I needed another means to collect oil from the nearby deposits. Also, because…I like it.”
Jin sneered at Tamiyo’s comment. “And why do you care so much for these…trinkets? Do they help you process data? Do they even truly gather that much glistening oil? With your enhanced intellect, surely you could construct a larger, more efficient vessel. For such a devoted researcher, you are possessed with an astonishing amount of useless whimsy.”
“Hmph.” The metallic moonfolk wheeled around to face away from Jin. “Says the one who is so intrigued by Tekuthal’s supposedly ‘worthless’ dolls.”
Jin sputtered, “T-Those are…accurate representations of myself and the other praetors, for use in tactical simulations! Besides, what miracles can your meager drops of oil perform for you?”
“They can help me put the finishing touches on my gauntlet.”
“Your what?” Jin hissed. “Performing research, wasting valuable resources behind my back!”
Tamiyo was ignoring her praetor by now, and awkwardly fitting her sharpened claws into a strange metallic glove. The gauntlet hissed and whirred as it connected to Tamiyo’s arm, and suddenly sprouted all kinds of sharp attachments. These fingerlike limbs glowed a sickly blue, highlighting Tamiyo’s exuberant expression.
“Ah, the temporal manipulation is finally functional.”
Jin shook his head at the gauntlet. “What in the name of-”
“Brief stepping forward in time, just far enough ahead to predict what you were about to ask,” Tamiyo smirked. “Do you like it, my praetor?”
“…Yes,” Jin growled begrudgingly. “It almost makes up for your fascination with those…things.”
Tamiyo’s bird construct fluttered down to rest on her outstretched talon. The moonfolk laughed quietly at her creation, while Jin could only stare on in irritation.

[RANT AHEAD! My thoughts are not going to be very well structured here, I don’t suspect, so my rant here probably won’t have a point at the end. And I’m sure it ain’t gonna be a popular opinion either, so feel free to turn back while you still can.
I really don’t care for the current Phyrexia arc. At best, it’ll all be rolled back when all’s said and done, and it’ll be a pretty awful cop-out. At worst, it’ll irrevocably change the dynamic of some of the planes I really really like. For instance, does Amonkhet really need more stuff for the former initiates to have to survive? Does Innistrad really need techno horror when it already does gothic and cosmic horror so well? Does Ixalan really need more thematic bloat? Personally I’d actually be okay with that last one since Ixalan is already kind of a mashup, but still, it’s the principle of the thing! And what about places like Eldraine, or Ravnica? You’ve got a theme, distinct aesthetic(s), and a huge fanbase, then you risk all of that for…what, shock value? Come on, now.
And it’s not just a matter of writing or art direction, at least not for me. Your mileage may vary on whether or not Norn is a compelling villain (she really isn’t to me) or whether you like the more fleshy body horror of Ixhel and Ajani this go-around (I really don’t), or whether the Phyrexians are the worst of villains or tragic victims (really they’re both), but the whole spreading throughout the multiverse thing just kinda has me groaning in annoyance and anticipation, rather than hanging on the edge of my seat one way or the other.
Ironically, the threat of Phyrexia spreading through all the established worlds and canon does not compel me to root either for or against Phyrexia as a whole. Rather, it just makes me want to disengage from the story entirely until the dust settles. Personally, the current story arc just has me very tired, more than anything else, and I for one cannot wait to be finished with this chapter of it.]

For the villain ask! Jin Guangyao (I am assuming you've seen some iteration of mdzs based on the occasional like I get from you) so either him or Naraku?
I saw season 1 of mdzs when it first aired but haven't really paid any attention since, know nothing beyond what was included in that first season, and it's been so long that all I really remember is that WW is a necromantic chaotic gremlin and I love him, and JC is basically Hijikata, thus I love him too... so let's go with Naraku! XD
Evil and fucking love it | A Whiny psycho | Really Dumb motive | Cool motive still murder | I don’t know enough to rate them | They have a point but they are a dick about it | Road to hell paved with good intentions | They are in the right here | Look if it were me I’d have been So MUCH worse | How are they not the hero? | Yea, I’m routing for the villain.
Evil, but as in. like. an aesthetic. Evil in terms of how he presents himself and his commitment to his role, rather than in terms of an innate quality of his being. I'm sure you know this already lol, but I really don't like using that word as a moral signifier (just like I don't really like using the word "good" either; well-developed characters, just like people, are more complex than that and it has always seemed dismissive of that fact to me), and when I do use it, it's usually reserved for characters that aren't considered villains by the narrative XD (like Sarutobi Hiruzen, for instance).
Definitely has some major whiny moments!! (I don't care for the "psycho" part though, especially since he's got legit grounds to be like that imo; like any entity that was constructed in such a manner, he can't help his nature). He absolutely has a point -- I differentiate between Naraku and Onigumo, and completely understand and respect Naraku's desire to be rid of what remained of Onigumo in him -- but is also very much a dick about it. And, while he's awful about things, I think we all know that, at the very least, I'd be on the same level, if not worse lmao. I cannot imagine existing with my personality/mental state and also battling with identity/sense of self on not only a psychological but a literal, physical level, where I was comprised of an amalgam of creatures and regularly had to contend with deconstructing into them?? I. would. go. insane. Props to him for hanging on as long as he did.
Also, makeup and overall aesthetic vibe? 🔥🔥🔥🔥
(fyi. the "cool motive still murder" is gonna be crossed out on these because I hate that phrase with every particle of my being. Blame vld trauma compounding my inherent distaste of the concept.)

I wanted to talk about the atmosphere of Tekken 3, and how it just hit differently (and how I also miss it) Like maybe it's just because of the graphics at the time but...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But many of the cutscenes / endings are drab, and typically dark and shadowed. Even when the scene itself wasn't necessarily supposed to be "dark" itself. It gives the entire game this unsettling feeling. Which Tekken 4 can be known for its creepy aesthetic choices - but I feel it's often overlooked in Tekken 3. Hell, some of the endings in 3 may be even eerier because all of them (with the exception of Julia's) have no dialogue. Therefore, it dives the player into a land of confusion and with little to expect.
I think that's why, despite it being his first, Jin's ending is still one of my favorite endings of his in the series. It's full of fear. As seen in the pictures above - our hero expresses fear at suddenly being killed despite having won the tournament - only seconds after, do we see his killer, Heihachi, with the same fear as "Jin" is suddenly resurrected into this animalistic being.
It's also why I believe I love this image so much...
Tumblr media
Because it has the same kind of coloring with the character(s) shrouded in darkness. And of course, with DJ crying. It really expresses both the horror of Jin being killed, and resurrected by a devil, and the tragedy of it all, too. It felt like DJ himself could be something tragic rather than always being presented as a sadistic villain who only cares for power and hurting others because it's "fun." (Which I've joked about that - comparing this image to a newer one from Tag 2 here) Don't get me wrong, it is fun to see DJ laughing after defeating an opponent. But it is also nice to look at the "deeper" side of the character and see him express more than arrogant glee.
Tekken 3 by far is not an underrated game - it's many people's first one, especially during their childhood, and it's still considered the best amongst many players. It was the best selling one up until Tekken 7. However, I do think its own aesthetics and eeriness is often overlooked. As I've expressed on this blog before; I wish the series would return to the horror-ness that both Tekken 3 and Tekken 4 had. It made the series stand out, and it also added more impact to the story being about a (cursed) family that wants to kill each other.

girl aespa debuted in 2020... and im not sucking lsm's dick but his interventions are the reason why their aesthetic and next level/savage mini exist... hes musty af but his ideas on production are the reason most of sm songs are THAT good. since he left the company completely everything has gone to shit (plus yoo young-jin departure). i cant believe theres no one in that building with at least 50% of his dedication to make music interesting again
yeah ofc like the savage mini album was lsm's last piece de resistance but he was fucking around too much with his offshore companies and the whole defrauding of shareholders thing 😭 like interpol had an active warrant on him!!! if only he had stuck to producing and not being an evil cartoon villain maybe kpop wouldn't be in shambles rn.
also fuck yoo youngjin's sinophobic ass sorry all he did was put himself in the artists' songs and force them to strain their vocal cords with over the top high registers

LITTLE WOMEN (K-DRAMA)
They say… Little Women's plot is astounding and very well-written.
I say, partially agreed!
Before watching it, I was skeptical because I had read the original book and watched the movie so I thought "How much better can it get?". In the film, I loved it every time Jo showed up on the screen and bravely spoke her mind. She is the best among the sisters although I did not resonate with her the most since I have never had or have never been an older sister.
Back to the K-drama. I expected the cast to be played well since there is Kim Go Eun - and I'm glad I was not wrong! One of the actresses that also surprised me was Uhm Ji Won who played the villain Won Sang-a. From pretending to be the victim to shedding her skin and revealing her true villainess self, it was all satisfying to watch. Apart from the villainess, I must also compliment the actor behind Won Sang-a's husband who also played the villain Joo Dan Tae in the Kdrama The Penthouse: War in Life.
Not to mention the fact that the ending left so many questions unanswered. The youngest sister did not even apologize for her bad behavior toward her sisters. She thought she could get away with it because she gave her sisters a share of the money? I could not count how many times she made my blood boil in the series. Her performance here in Little Women is as underwhelming as her performance in AOUAD.
Although I enjoyed the aesthetics and the cast of the drama, I could not say that I loved its plot. Yes, I love some thrillers and heavy drama because that's what makes me feel alive but the problem here is the historical revisionism. I am familiar with the Korea-Vietnam War for I have read some articles about it as I was researching the Korean War in which some Filipinos helped. That is why I know for a fact that Koreans are not deemed as heroic as they are in the drama. In fact, hundreds of innocent lives were taken and some women were even raped by Korean soldiers. So it appalls me to see that Koreans see themselves as mighty and brave soldiers during the Korea-Vietnam War.
Tumblr media
I am big on condoning historical revisionism so this issue affected my drama rating. Without it, I could have given 7/10 but considering the distortion they did on historical facts, I say 4/10 (or less if actress Uhm Ji Won had not played the villainess role so amazingly).
How about you? What can you say?

fandom - the untamed! 👀
oh i haven't thought about cql in ages but i put on my playlist for it just for this so here we go. enjoy the ride! (i sure as hell did ♥)
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my:
Favorite character: Jiang Cheng i have talked about him a million times but i still find it funny how i didn't really like him at first. the donghua version of him felt like a total ass, and as the donghua lacked the ending back then and didn’t give me closure, only during the live action i grew fond of him. he has made his fair share of mistakes but i love how flawed he is and how much his character promises hope of growth ♥
Least Favorite character: Jin Guangshan bitch ass man can go burn in hell for all i care
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): XiCheng, WangXian, NieMo , SongXiao, Jiang Yanli + Jin Zixuan ♥
Character I find most attractive: Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen i truly cannot choose between the twin jades of lan. they are both just so beautiful. there's such grace in both of them and i love it how different yet similar they are. i could write poems about their beauty but also just about their characters and their bond.
Character I would marry: Wen Qing my wife ♥ idk if i would truly marry any of the cql characters but i wouldn't say no to her haha
Character(s) I would be best friends with: The One Braincell Trio i would absolutely drink myself under the table with jc, wwx, and nhs. it would be so much fun. as long as we don't get sad drunk hhhh
a random thought: our juniors are just a new generation of leaders in the making and in my head, ljy will become the chief cultivator, mark my words
An unpopular opinion: uuuhh idk if i have any. it truly has been too long. i cannot get into details, am sorry.
My Canon OTP: WangXian they are the epitome of true love, of soulmates, of star-crossed lovers, of everything that is good in this dark world. they have all the tropes in them i love. they are both such strong and independent ppl but find gentleness, warmth, and easiness in each other. they make a home. they have defeated death, and if that isn't enough, then idk what to tell you.
My Non-canon OTP: XiCheng they are two ppl attempting to heal together. they are fire and ice, storm and calm, winter and summer. they meet between the river and the mountain. but i think what mostly attracted me to them was the promise of hope and healing and finding love when it had once been lost.
Most Badass Character: Lan Wangji only based on how he looks when he fights like. hell. that looks stunning?? he was born to wield a sword i swear (honorary mention goes to his husband yiling patriarch bc will we ever get over those wonderful vibes? never)
Most Epic Villain: Nie Huaisang our master mind ♥ he and his intelligence astonish me. he's just so cool. idk if we can properly count him as a villain bc who truly is a villain in cql (other than like. wen ruohan?? who just got cringe with his emo villain aesthetic byeee) but he is our Big Bad Guy in the end. he is a villain - yet also some type of hero. and doesn't that just make him even more epic?
Pairing I am not a fan of: ChengYi there are actually several similar ships (like wwx and wn or lxc and nmj etc.) that i find kind of... weird? or where i can only see friendship or familiarity/family bonds instead of romantic feelings. but everyone can like what they like. more for you. (also chengyi bothers me when on twt i go through cheng yi’s (the actor) tag and suddenly i get jc x ljy porn thrown at my face like,,, god dammit)
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): The Women i guess we all will die on the hill that cql women deserved better.
Favourite Friendship: Wei Wuxian and Wen Qing i love their bickering and their care for each other and their companionship. i also love how wq is the only person on this earth who can put wwx in his place. that man needs to hear the cold truth sometimes which is that he's an idiot. the smartest idiot in the world mayhaps but an idiot nonetheless. also imagine if they had both been allowed to live, they could've ruled the world sigh. we support powerful besties in this house.
Character I most identify with: Jiang Cheng under the anger and him being a bitch, i do find similarities between us. we have insecurities that cripple us at times; we regard love and family most of all in complicated ways. we don't know what to say to those we care about and struggle with emotions. we suck at accepting gifts too, even if his case is a bit more extreme than my average gift received from a friend :'D
Character I wish I could be: Jin Ling i adore this tiny brat even if he is, indeed, a brat ♥ but imagine how cool it would be, all responsibilities aside, to be him: you are the nephew of half the notorious ppl of the cultivator world. any time you have a problem, you just call one uncle for help. you also have a lot of dead uncles and you're an orphan bc of some of them but :) let's ignore that pain. you would be the coolest amongst your peers. absolutely bonkers.
thank you for sending me this ask! have a very good day ^^ ♥

Exactly! That's how I am... Attractive men who are tall and muscular is definitely one thing, but them having tattoos and piercings is a bonus to me. They don't have to have modifications. But I would love just as much if they did have modifications. Because I love alternative styles.
And, if Orange doesn't end up romantically with Cobra, then I'm really stealing this man from her. Have you seen this man? He's attractive.
Naturally as an Asian man, his real hair color is black or brown - and I do think Takanori's attractive either way. But like in Japan, dying their hair blond is something delinquents do all the time (like in TR or H&L) which does seem fitting for Cobra. And even Rocky.. But that's just so different to me. I know Rocky's also considered a delinquent. Though, because WR's signature color being white, him having platinum blond (or silver) hair would make complete sense to me for that reason.
Anyway.
In some original concept pictures, Rocky was supposed to be having dark hair too. Not just Cobra. But I don't know how to feel about that.
I'm happy they decided to go with more biker aesthetics for Mugen in the end, instead of your typical hoodlum styles like Oya and Daruma.
Actually.. I almost didn't recognize Hirōmi. Probably because every of the pictures and videos I see of him, his long hair is usually on a more shorter side (like the undercut). So having him with longer hair would seem a bit surprising. But now I'm imaging Hiroto with longer hair.
~
I'm just whacking you on the head with a wrapped up newspaper.
~
That's how I was! Because it was obvious Gun never had any interests in drinking alcohol because of how abusive father treated him and his mother whenever he drank. So Gun technically swore off any alcohol.
He did seem fine. Him drinking was cute because of how smiley he is with everyone else, not that he isn't always like that with everyone he meets. He's always a sweetheart. But it was sweet that Jin was really willing to die for his friend so his friend wouldn't have to drink alcohol if he was too uncomfortable. And now drinking alcohol is Gun's whole decision now, only if he ever did want to continue drinking though.
I wish that I could bounce back from not having a headache the very next day. Well.. Sometimes. Only sometimes from dehydration.
Honestly... Even if Lee never mentioned where Choi, Yang, Ju, Gun or Jin where. Even if Lee never mentioned anything to the villains, then I still would have imagined them being killed regardless what was even said or done. Because that's the type of villains these characters are.
Part of me is curious about the hospital scene. Especially after Jin is out of surgery, he is healthy but healing by then. And... watching this scene (no matter how many times), I wasn't sure if Jin would survive.
And then I thought, if Jin died, how devastated Gun would be, every one he cares about - besides his mother - is either dead or missing in his life. He would probably blame himself over the events of everyone dying.. Because, if it wasn't for him starting a fight with the villains in the first place like this, then none of these people would have died.
He'd probably have survivors guilt too.
My poor baby!
~
Have you watched the final episode yet?
I know Da-min is a replacement character, which is obviously not too surprising based on what happened. I blame the Ju's actress for this.
But I don't mind Da-min's character too much though. I'm just neutral about her. I don't hate her, but I don't love her. Though that's because she isn't in a lot of scenes to have that much of an opinion on the girl.
About characters with conditions, disabilities, disorders.. Like I would only ever give a character medical conditions, if I am really somewhat knowledgeable about the condition. But I don't always do this though so it's not like with every character I have, only just some characters.
And AleXa's conditions.. I knew about some of her conditions before I read the post (from a couple days ago) discussing her health, about a lot of her conditions being mainly disorders. She'd mentioned anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, insomnia and lactose intolerance being her main conditions. And I did know about a few conditions before then.
Obviously AleXa does take medication for her health.
Oh! Before I forget. I might some more pictures of AleXa with bright blue hair, she's wearing feminine clothes. Since you said that you do want to use light and bright colors with a feminine style to her when it comes to his specific character anyway. I could send the pictures?
~
Orange and Cobra would be the couple who do take turns bandaging up each other for the most part. Depends on who needs more care at first, depending on the situation, the injures, and everything else too.
Yeah! Now I remember. Don't know why I forgot that. Maybe because every time I remember Noboru's character, I am always remembering that he went to college to become a lawyer. Beat of the guys who just abused his girlfriend. And also got involved with Kuryu for a while.
I need more happier memories for the original Sannoh trio. And I was so happy to see those closeup pictures of them smiling together.
Honestly? Although I listen to a lot of Japanese bands, I've never had any interest in listening to Babymetal. I do know about them. And I've seen American, European and Australian bands support their career.
Nemophila has a similar sound to them.. At least I think they do.
If I did decide to have my W/G character for High&Low, I can imagine a lot of different scenarios for her. If I decided use her for High&Low.
~
There's only one person I would accept with a mullet. But in general, I don't like mullets. Mullets are like some strong repellent for me not to be attracted to someone. But the actor is attractive with with colored hair, like blond and even purple too. The actor looks different than his characters. I know, I know.. Makeup and wigs would do that. But still.
No to every one of those shows. I hate American shows. I have always hated Seinfeld, Friends, Big Bang Theory, The Office, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother and just about every one of those shows. Like I did see some episodes of How I Met Your Mother.. I couldn't get into the show. And I even don't care for most of the actors in these shows.
tattoos and piercings are so good! they’re fun lil visual interest. like yea you can be hot as is, but then a nice tattoo? or a piercing or two? total knockout. love it. i know it’s uncommon for japanese guys to have tattoos because of the whole yakuza sitch, but. tattoos are so good.
i’ve noticed a lot of the exile guys - if not all of them - have piercings. reo’s got like three ear piercings and it’s got me acting some kinda way. he’s so attractive To Me.
takanori looks great with whatever hair colour, but cobra specifically has to be blonde. i can’t imagine the character with darker hair. cobra and rocky make the most sense to have dyed hair whether they do it themselves or pay for it, it’s takeshi and pi that throw me tho. where are they getting their hair bleached and dyed in nameless? with what money??
omi does look like almost a completely different person when he has long hair. i can’t decide if i like him better with long hair or the undercut.
~
gun’s such a sweetie when he’s not in a fight. he’s just a good dude and he just goes and makes friends with nearly everyone. hard to resist the sweet boy charm.
yea i don’t think lee was making it out alive no matter what he did. i think he knew that he was going to die but was trying to save his wife and probably expected that yang would’ve been able to protect himself, because they were choi’s best knifers - unfortunately they were all just hit when their guards were down.
i don’t know how gun would’ve managed if jin had died. he was already breaking down in the hospital while jin was still in surgery, i don’t know what he would’ve done if jin had died and ju was already gone.
he so needed a hug in the hospital, both before he knew jin was out of surgery and after when the doctor talked to him.
~
watched the final episode! it ended very abruptly, i’m assuming that was because of the rewrite tho. it just felt like there should’ve been something … more? like it just. ends. so quickly.
the fight with gun and myeong gil was great. loved the little scene with gun and jin after the fight where jin’s comforting him. just, jin knowing how to cheer gun up, it’s so sweet, they’re besties 🥺 also gun’s mum worrying over jin’s injuries and bringing him into the hug, those are her sons!!
gun and jin looked So Good the entire episode. i think it was the gloves. also like, them hanging around da min’s place in those lil red shorts ……. i am just looking at thighs.
i thought da min was fine. i think she was sweet and i liked the scene of jin and gun covering her eyes and ears. also archery is cool so points to her for that. i do think she needed more time and development, but i didn’t hate her or anything. also im just. staring. at her hand when she fist-bumped the boys. her hand is so small. or their hands are so big. she’s like 5’6 so she’s not like. short. i’m just 👀👀👀
i’ll always take more pictures! i’m just gathering ones up on my pinterest that have the vibe i’m imagining for eun bi.
~
something something ‘patching up your romantic interest as an act of love (even before you get together)’. it’s a good trope! it’s intimate!
i need to switch back on my h&l brain because i’ve been thinking a lot of bloodhounds lately. i did start planning a lil more visual stuff for ojou tho, because i’m making an edit.
~
he looks so good with coloured hair, like the pink and the purple! he’s also so tall. i didn’t realise. he’s like 5’11/6’.
i only really watch those shows because they’re like. nostalgic. sometimes you just need a show to watch without needing to really use your brain and old nostalgic crap hits that spot. but then sometimes you watch it and go ‘oh. that joke is. not good’.
