We all know James and Lily live a long happy life together but do you know how they met? Was it on the Hogwarts Express where one accidentally bumped the overhead luggage and caused it to drop on the other? Or was it because Lily wanted to know who lets their dog pee on her lovely Petunia that she keeps next to her door and waits to yell at him as he went about his morning routine? Who knows? Who will tell? And just so everyone can know the different answers to the above question, this year’s theme for jilytober fest is…🥁🥁🥁🥁 ‘MEET CUTES/UGLIES!’
Disclaimer: this post is a lil’ long
Bittersweet
We all know honey gets sweeter when you stir it up, but can you make it bitter too? What happens when we give you a fluff prompt but ask you to give us angst? We get bittersweet jily, addictive and delicious. Oh and how about when you turn our angsty prompt into sweet nothings and sugar coated love declarations? Absolute delight! Come ask for your prompt and twist it to your flavour
The participants will be given a fluff prompt which should be interpreted as angst. And vice versa. Those interested in participating in this challenge can send an ask, and a prompt will be assigned to you! (Yes, both writers and artists can participate 🥰). There is no deadline to register for this event.
Masquerade challenge
Are you as good as a Marauder at detective work? Can you sniff an authors tells at the poker table? Can you sense the writer before the end of the story? Can you tell which James loves Lily the most? If you think you can come have a guess 😉
A few writers will write and anonymously submit their fics to the challenge collection (will be posted soon). Readers have to match the fics to the writers. The options for authors will be given via a tumblr poll. Everyone is encouraged to participate :)
To be a writer, send an ask saying that you wish to participate by the 20th of September (so that you get enough time to write)
Jily sprinkle moments!
At the beginning of each week, 5 one word prompts will be posted. They can all be connected together to make one fic, or as many as one wants. There is no limit! Go grab that jily moment and put it in <<101 words! (If inspiration strikes, feel free to go crazy) Everyone is encouraged to participate! (Artworks, fics, moodboards, playlists—anything can be made). Do tag this blog and @jilymicrofics so that your works can be reblogged
Readers Bingo!
We’ve been spoilt with so manyyyy jily fics this year, were you able to keep up?? If you were, you will rock the bingo weekends this year!
The official bingo templates will be posted every Friday at 12AM GMT and to win it, one would have to get a bingo by Monday 12 AM GMT. This year, we will have 4 bingos (🎉🎉) for each category— general audiences (6th-8th), teen and up(13th-15th), mature(20th-22nd), explicit(27th-29th). Every single person in the fandom is encouraged to participate :)
Whoever finishes the bingo first, each week, wins! They should also post a photo of their finished template on Tumblr and tag this blog. Each winner has the chance to win a bonus of eternal fame (in the author’s minds) and love ♥️♥️ if they have left a comment, as well as have read the fic :)
The JilyExpress - A collaborative fic writing event
All ready to start and head straight to Hogwarts is the Jily expressway 🚂🛤️🚇 so…
Get your ticket through this form before 20th September. Everybody is welcome! (All readers, artists, writers)
The fest mod will start a story on 1st October - It shall only be 1-3 (complete!) sentences and no more.
The next person on the list will continue the story the next day, 2nd October, by writing 1-3 more (complete!) sentences. This continues till the 31st of October when a complete fic, with all the authors credited, will be released on ao3. Based on the number of sign ups, the order and the number of times each author gets to write will be decided and announced in a later post
The writers are to post their lines as a reblog chain with proper tagging (the jily express and @jilytoberfest ) and numbering (date). In case you want your sentence to be anonymous, you can send an ask to this blog after the person before you has posted their sentence, and we would post yours!

10 Things I Hate About You - Part 1/3
Tumblr media
Petunia Evans cannot start dating the man she considers to have true love potential – a certain Vernon Dursley – until her anti-social younger sister, Lily, finds herself a partner too, which leads Petunia to take drastic measures. For surely, Head Boy James Potter – suffering from a knee injury he does not want anyone but himself and his physiotherapist to know about – should be able to charm her younger sibling, shouldn’t he? If the only thing standing between her perfect love match is blackmail, who is she not to resort to it? Are not, after all, all means justified when the end she has in mind is so very sweet? A 3-part fic written for the Jilytoberfest Rom-Com Event, inspired by the 1999 movie 10 Things I Hate About You.
I said I was going to post all three parts of this story in one go, but for the past two days I've been struggling to find the right voice, hating everything I wrote and wanting to just delete it all.
Therefore, after giving it some thought, I decided to post the first part of 10 Things I Hate About You and to ask for your engagement/feedback. I promise to then include as much of what you said into the next chapter, making this a story for the Jily community by the Jily community if that makes sense.
Read Part 1 of 10 Things I Hate About You HERE!
After reading Part 1, I've got two main questions for you:
How do you want James Potter to woo Lily Evans in Part 2? Grand gestures or small ones? Feel free to send me specific examples through asks or by responding to this post.
Which character's POV (other than James and Lily) would you like to see included? I will go with the Top 3 from the poll below:

love, james || chapter 1: ogden's finest
James likes Lily. And Lily likes James. How the hell did it get so complicated?
Love, Rosie, but make it Jily. Written for the Jilytoberfest 2023 Rom-Com Event.
listen to the playlist here
(you can rip the atj fancast from my cold dead hands)
Take a deep breath and start at the beginning… Tell them how we first met. “Who wants to be in Slytherin? I think I’d leave, wouldn’t you?”  “Come on, Severus, let’s find another compartment.” No, maybe not. And probably best to avoid mentioning anything about fifth year.  The pair of them tended to avoid mentioning that year. Maybe better to start with a platitude like…This has got to be the happiest day of my life… Oh fuck that. Maybe best to start with a hilarious anecdote then…

Eclipse
Written for the @jilytoberfest prompt 31: "An Alternative ending for 31 October, 1981." This is also a @jilymicro-oops using the prompt words: Blip, Flip, Clip, Rip, and Trip.
Oh...also...this is definitely a sneaky prequel to Kindly Stopped for Me, but it can easily be read independently of that fic!
Summary: On 31 October, 1981, James faces his worst fear, Lily does the impossible, and one friend is left to pick up the pieces.

Lily lay on a hammock, her eyes closed, her hair loose and swaying with the wind, looking like a princess except the cigarette in her hand marring the perfect picture.
“That’s a filthy habit, you know”, James observed.
Lily raised an eyebrow, amused, glancing pointedly at his own pack.
“We could quit together”, he suggested, staring a little as her eyes fluttered shut again.
She laughed, disbelieving.
“I’ll pledge you my allegiance, my lady”, he promised, jumping off his hammock and reaching for her hand. “Quit with me?”
And when he looked at her like that, Lily couldn’t say no.
Whew, that's my first proper drabble, exactly a hundred words, so that's exciting! Thanks to @jilytoberfest for the week 2 micro prompts.
@jilymicrofics I wrote a micro!

Jilytober – Bittersweet Challenge Prompt: I really wanted it to be you
Thanks @jilytoberfest
“How reasonable is it to want to kill someone I've met once?” James Potter asked his best friend, huffing as he struggled with his bowtie. That was the first thing that could have made Sirius stop admiring his hair in the mirror. He spun around and stared at James in confusion.
“What on earth are you talking about? I’ve heard of wedding day jitters, but never the urge to commit murder. Considering my family, the fact that there has never been a murder at a wedding is quite remarkable. But I repeat, what the hell?”
“Lily had a letter from her sister,” James explained, turning away from Sirius to examine his own hair in the mirror with an air of hopeless desperation. “Why do I bother? There’s no fixing this.”
“It’s just as well that your dear old Dad didn’t live long enough to see this,” Sirius mused. “Ironic that his haircare potions can’t do a thing for his own son.”
“Rude,” James muttered half-heartedly, but Sirius could tell he was still preoccupied with Lily’s pain. “Can we get back to the point? I always knew Petunia doesn’t like me, but anyone who could treat Lily like this makes me so angry I can’t think straight. She’s just…ugh!”
“Muggles,” said Sirius, as if that explained everything. “They just don’t make sense sometimes. Lily’s Mum and Dad seemed happy enough that you guys were dating. Why does it matter what her sister thinks of you?”
“I don’t care what she thinks of me,” James insisted. “But Lily does for whatever reason and that is what matters. The fact that she refused to be here today is upsetting Lily and that’s not okay. I don’t know if I’m making any sense to you, I just want Lily to be happy.”
“A wedding is one day of her life, Prongs,” Sirius pointed out with unusual insight. “You make her happy every day, that’s what really matters.”
“Not so long ago, she would have been happy if I never spoke to her again, actually,” James laughed. “Whether that’s a good thing or not, my life just doesn’t make sense without her.”
“Save it for the vows, mate,” Sirius grimaced in mild disgust. “Are you good here? Speaking of beautiful things, I really want to steal Marlene away from the bride for a minute. You may not be allowed to see her yet; the best man has no such limitations.” Without waiting for a response, Sirius spun around and left the groom to his musings, there was only so much talk of sappiness a guy could take in one day. He followed the sound of girlish squealing across the hall to where Lily’s bridesmaids were getting dressed.
“Is everyone decent in there?” he called, holding one hand over his eyes for good measure. There was no explicit answer, but Sirius decided to take his chances anyway. In the bridal chambers however, the frenzy was for a different reason than Sirius was expecting. “What the hell is going on in here?” He stared questioningly at Lily’s matron of honour Alice, notoriously calm by nature, the stress levels radiating off her freaked him out. “Where’s Lily?”
“I last saw her holding a letter an hour ago and nobody’s seen her since,” Alice admitted miserably. “Do you have any idea what could make her do a runner like this? She didn’t try to sneak off to see James, did she? She has to know that’s terribly bad luck!”
“No,” Sirius reassured her. “James told me the letter was from Petunia. I wouldn’t put it past that crazy sister of Lily’s to upset her somehow or other.”
“You’ve got a point there,” Alice admitted. “What the hell are we going to do? Where could she possibly disappear at a time like this?”
“I have a hunch,” Sirius murmured mysteriously. “Take it from someone with plenty of awful relatives, sometimes it all just becomes a bit much. I’m sure she just needed a breather from all this chaos. It doesn’t have to mean anything bad.” Alice was still staring at him cynically so Sirius decided not to waste time with words. “Leave it to me,” he said. “There will be no runaway brides here today.”
With that he spun around and walked away from the panicky bridal party, a man on a mission. It was a beautiful day in Godric’s Hollow and nothing in the atmosphere suggested bad omens except for the suddenly missing bride. Sirius looked all around, steely grey eyes sweeping one empty room after another. “Where the hell are you, Evans?” he muttered to himself, feeling the tension despite his cool words to Alice.
As a last resort, he ventured outside, moving towards a large tree across the lawn of the Potter residence. Finally, he spotted Lily’s flaming red hair in the distance, she was sitting on the ground at the base of the sturdy tree trunk, her wedding dress billowing around her like an exotic cloud.
“Lily?” The sound of Sirius’ voice made Lily’s head snap up, an ironic deer in headlights panic in her red-rimmed eyes. “What are you doing out here? Everyone’s freaking out inside.” His gaze landed on the crumpled letter clutched in her fist. “What’s that?”
“Petunia,” Lily whimpered, after staring at him blankly for a moment. “She sent her wedding invitation back ripped to pieces.”
“You have got to be kidding me.” Pure disgust clouded Sirius’ face for a moment but he squashed down his anger at the misery on Lily’s face. “I’m sorry Lil, as I told James earlier, I know a thing or two about awful relatives.”
“Despite all this, I wish I could tell her: I really wanted it to be you,” Lily sighed, subtly wiping the tears from her eyes. “What little girl doesn’t imagine her big sister as her maid of honour? What did I do to offend her so much besides not being entirely normal?”
“Normal is completely overrated,” said Sirius firmly, looping an arm around Lily and pulling her into a hug. “For what it’s worth, even if it feels like you don’t have a sister who cares right now, I can tell you one thing I know for sure. You have brothers who would never ever talk to you the way she does.”
“Thank you,” sighed Lily, leaning into the embrace for a moment. “You’re pretty great, you know that? I’m sorry about a lot of the harsh things I said at fifteen.”
“We deserved it,” shrugged Sirius, laughing off the apology. Suddenly there was a commotion behind them and the duo spun around curiously. “Is that really the best idea?” Sirius mused, staring at Remus leading James across the lawn.
“I’ve heard of guide dogs, wolf companions are a first,” Lily laughed in spite of herself. “At least it looks like he’s trying somewhat to respect tradition.” James was stumbling towards them across the lawn, as good as blind without his glasses on. Lily was stunned by the sheer strength of the love she felt in that moment and had to lean back against the tree as her knees trembled. “Haven’t you heard it’s bad luck to see the bride before the wedding, Potter?”
“Technically, I can’t actually see you,” James pointed out, letting go of Remus’ arm and reaching towards the sound of Lily’s laugh. “I was worried about you when Sirius told me about Petunia’s letter.” He shrugged sheepishly; “Sorry if that’s overkill, I just needed to make sure you were okay.”
“I am now,” Lily promised, glad he couldn’t see her clearly as she wiped her eyes on her puffy sleeve. “Your friends are pretty great, Mr. Potter.”
“I’m well aware of that,” James grinned at her, clearly relieved that she was okay. “And the soon to be Mrs. Potter is even better, let’s be real.”
“No arguments here,” Sirius and Remus agreed in unison. “Just make out already, screw the rules.”
“Well that’s what you boys do best, isn’t it?” Lily couldn’t stop herself from pointing out. She slipped her arms around James’ neck and leaned up on tiptoes to kiss him gently. “I can’t wait to be yours,” she said softly.
“You already are, babe,” said James firmly. “Or at least my heart is yours. Nobody else has the power to make me this cheesy, you better enjoy it. I can see you with or without working eyes, just for the record.”
“I love you, you dork,” Lily laughed and melted into the embrace that had become her safe place against her will years ago. Now she wouldn’t change the promise of her future as Mrs. Potter for anything.

for the @jilytoberfest day 10 prompt: "Quick, kiss me — my ex is looking!"
read below, or on AO3 with my other drabbles and jilytober ficlets
____
“There’s something on my lips, and I need you to help get it off… with your lips.”
Lily laughs. “That’s ridiculous.”
“Alright, rude. How about… I’m a frog and your kiss will turn me into a princess?”
“I’m not a frog.”
“Your kiss will make me even prettier a princess than I already am?”
“That’s moot, Mary,” Dorcas sighs, opening her bed curtains and slamming her Charms book — and pretenses of studying — shut. “He already looks at her like she’s the most gorgeous living thing to ever walk the planet, which circles us back to my original suggestion of just march up to him and kiss him, Lily. You don't need any lines.”
Lily gapes. “He does not look at me like that.”
“He does look at you like that,” Mary confirms. “Has for ages. Makes a girl wonder what his face even looks like when he’s not staring at you gobsmacked.”
“Now that’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve said today,” Lily protests. She watches her reflection in the mirror — wand in hand, eye makeup done on only the right side of her face. “I’m not — he doesn’t. Trust me.”
“Lily…”
“No!” exclaims Lily, borderline frantic. She moves out of the bathroom doorway and turns around to face them properly now. They need to understand, because the hope they’re giving her is dangerous at best. Devastating at worst. “Don’t you think I know what he feels about me better than you do?”
To her credit, Mary isn’t swayed by Lily’s Head Girl voice. She sits fully up in bed, eyebrow cocked. “No, I don’t. You’ve — love, you have to admit you’ve never been that rational when it comes to him. Even in fifth, when you were always fighting, or… first, when you were always fighting, or last year, before you…”
Mary gestures helplessly.
“Before I started to fancy him, you mean,” Lily finishes hoarsely. She slumps against Mary’s bedpost and stares out the dormitory window. The sun is setting. “I fancy him so much. God, that’s the first time I’ve said it out loud, isn’t it?”
“It is,” Dorcas smiles. “We’ve come a long way from ‘I maybe don’t hate him’ and ‘I suppose his hair is… rather alright,’ haven’t we, Mare?”
Mary giggles. “That was a tough phase to keep a straight face through. Oh, I know! How about, ‘quick, kiss me — my ex is looking!’”
“No!” says Lily, and it’s abrupt enough that Mary startles. “I’m — I’m sorry. It’s just that I’m not looking for help on ways to tell him because I’m not planning on telling him.”
Mary gapes.
“And why in the ever-loving Merlin not?” Dorcas demands.
“Because that’s not —” Lily struggles to articulate the feeling that’s settled in her gut the past few weeks — past few months, who’s she trying to convince anymore? — and that rises up, up, up to choke her into silence every time she looks at him too fondly. “It’s not fair to him. He — he liked me. I know he did. I’m not that oblivious. And I’m glad nothing happened back in fifth year, I really am, but last year… I missed my chance. And it’s not fair to him to make things so awkward now.”
“Lily—”
“Are you—”
Dorcas and Mary hesitate, waiting for the other to finish.
Dorcas snorts and continues: “You’ve got to be kidding me. You’re not too late. You’ll never be too late for that boy, Lily. We’re not saying he used to look at you like you invented love and Quidditch and all things good in the world. We’re saying he looks at you like that now. Still. Always. At breakfast this morning, when you won that brewing contest last month, when you tripped coming down the girls’ stairs last week. All the time. They should study him, honestly.”
Lily scoffs, but she feels that feeling again, rising in her throat, sparkling and happy and in need of being squashed before it kills her. “You’re seeing what you want to see,” Lily says softly. “You’re not the one who — it’s not like I’m subtle. I’ve never been, even when the thing I was not subtle about was thinking he was a prize idiot. When we’re alone, he doesn’t look at me like anything. Just polite, cordial, doesn’t ask too many questions, doesn’t linger after meetings… nothing.”
They look skeptical.
Lily sighs. “Asking him about Hogsmeade plans, listening too intently when the boys talk about girls — I can’t help it. And he’s just… perfectly friendly in return. A little distant, even, compared to last year. He’s switched our rounds around, keeps asking for rain checks when I ask to hang out alone. It’s normal behavior, but normal isn’t the way you are with someone you…”
“Fancy,” Mary finishes.
“Exactly,” sighs Lily again. “It’s what I would do if… Benjy Fenwick was trying to make plans with me, even platonic ones. I’d do it if I had time, but I wouldn’t make time. I wouldn’t be trying.”
For the first time, Lily’s mates hesitate, and honestly, it kills her a little.
They’ve both been convinced of James’s undying love since third year, and as much as she likes to protest, the way they see things feels like the last chance she’s got for her and James to work. So if even they have some hesitations, if his behavior really is as damning of a lack of feelings as she’s been suspecting…
“I’m still certain…”
“Mary.”
“Fine. Fine. Maybe I’m not certain. But he — what he felt for you can’t just go away that quickly, that cleanly.”
Lily’s heart sinks. Felt, past tense, already. And all it took was them learning about things she already knew.
She settles gently onto Mary’s bed and closes her eyes, willing tears away as Mary rests her head on Lily’s shoulder. She can’t cry about this. He did nothing wrong. He doesn’t owe her attention. He doesn’t owe her anything.
“I still wouldn’t be too sure he’s not interested, Lily,” Mary says hesitantly. “People are pretty good at hiding what they’re actually feeling.”
“I don’t think James Potter is one of those people, Mare.”
“Still. Maybe he thinks you’re not interested and is trying to respect that.”
“Can... can we just please drop it? I don’t… I just don’t want to think about it,” says Lily.
She exhales a shuddering breath as Mary starts to pet at her hair.
Every crush she’s ever had has passed. She knows this. She remembers her seemingly undying, world-spinning crush on Caradoc Dearborn in second and third years. She doesn’t think twice about him now. She knows this. This feeling will pass. There’s no reason for James Potter to be different from any other boy she’s liked and moved on from.
He’s not special.
(She’s a liar.)
The trance is broken when the door to their dormitory slams open. In the doorway is their fourth roommate, Izzy, breathless and smiling. She looks radiant — skin flushed prettily, dark hair messy and windswept but in that artful way Lily’s always wished for.
“Guess what just happened,” she says breathlessly, and then, not pausing for a moment: “I have a date!”
“Oh?” asks Dorcas, emerging fully from her bed. Izzy has notoriously never been interested in anyone at Hogwarts, despite much of the male population’s interest in her. “Tell us more.”
Izzy settles onto the floor between Mary and Dorcas’s beds. Dizzy, Lily presses her palms against her cheeks and leans more heavily into Mary’s side, hoping nothing of their previous conversation shows.
“I’ve liked him for a while, actually. Since last term,” Izzy says, suddenly shy. She picks at a loose string on the rug underneath her. “But I… you know, I don’t have much dating experience. And I wasn’t sure he’d be interested at all.”
“Bullshit,” Mary says, though not unkindly. “Never met a bloke not interested in you.”
“That’s an exaggeration,” Izzy says matter-of-factly. “Anyway, we’ve been spending a little more time together this term. Not even on purpose at first, just coincidence… and then, later, more on purpose.”
Mary coos as Izzy starts to flush deeper.
“I honestly still couldn’t tell. He’s a friendly person generally, so I couldn’t tell if it was just that, or something more… but he’s been really sweet. Attentive. So I thought, maybe…”
“Maybe?” Dorcas prompts after a moment of silence. It’s usually Lily’s role to coax Izzy out of her shell, but she doesn’t have it in her. She’s happy for her, truly, but she’s only human. She can take ten minutes to mope. Fifteen, tops.
“I thought maybe I should give it a shot. Ask him out. You know, be brave for once,” she says in a rush. It’s always been an insecurity of Izzy’s, Lily knows — that she’s in Gryffindor but so shy.
“I’m proud of you,” Lily says with a smile, and she means it. “That takes a lot of courage.”
“It did,” Izzy says earnestly. “But I suppose I needn’t have worried, because he said yes! That he’d love to! That he’s been enjoying us spending more time together this year. And now we’re going to Hogsmeade together next weekend.”
“Ooh, I’m so excited,” Mary says happily. “There are so many new Muggle hairstyles in fashion right now that the Wizarding world just hasn’t caught onto, and they’d be perfect for you.”
“We’re also just happy for you generally,” Dorcas corrects with a laugh. “First dates are fun.”
“That too,” Mary agrees. “So. I know you’ve been leaving us in suspense on purpose. Who’s the lucky bloke?”
Izzy scoots forward on the floor, closer to their beds, and as she does so, her gaze lingers for just a moment extra on Lily.
Lily isn’t sure what she sees in the other girl’s expression. A flash of hesitation? Nervousness? It’s something different from the sheer joy she’d walked into the room with. And Lily suddenly knows.
It’s in a whisper that Izzy finally says it. A whisper, like that will make it less important. Less dizzying, less horrifying. Like that will knock Lily’s world sideways any less.
“James Potter.”
Lily doesn’t cry.
Everyone is looking at her, but she doesn’t cry. She doesn’t frown, or stare, or startle.
That thing in her throat that she was so afraid of rising up, up, up — it drops clean out of her body. She feels cold, and suddenly empty. (He’s not special. She’ll be fine. He’s not special. This will blow by.) But vacuums want to be filled. So she opens her mouth, takes a breath, and smiles.
“That’s great, Iz,” Lily says.
“It is?” she asks, and Lily recognizes in her dormmate’s eyes what she now lacks — hope.
“It is,” Lily repeats.
Izzy smiles, relief sinking into her shoulders.
Lily even smiles too.
(Hope needs a home somewhere.)

the badge and the boy, chapter eight
[A love story told in 20 micros for @jilytoberfest and @jilymicrofics using the Jily Sprinkles prompts.]
smoke
Smoke hissed with the dying breaths of Potter's project. He beamed at Lily. She folded her arms across her chest. "That's decent," she admitted.  "Not brilliant?" His eyebrow cocked. A funny little tingle ran through her. She ignored the warmth in her cheeks. "Your ego hardly needs inflating." With a wave of her wand, the work she'd done rearranged itself. They were in a room on the seventh floor that Potter had shown her, practising their spellwork. Between them, an idea was formulating.
"I think your stuff is brilliant," he said idly, examining one of her flowers. "Oh, shut up."

Alternate Ending of 31 October, 1981
@jilytoberfest I wanted to at least write the last prompt of the 31 days of Jily ( Hopefully I can finish the others, even though the month will be over)
Please read below or over on A03 word count= 1,178 (and counting...)
31 October, 1981
Late night Visitor
Darkness surrounded the house almost as if death was going to knock at the door of Godric’s Hollow, the sky above quickly became a ghastly gray as the cloaked figure stood in front of the home, his red eyes a deep contrast to the darkness around him. His overly dry and thin lips, formed a sneer on his face, his yellow teeth almost glowing in the night. As he imagines all the possible ways, he could make the occupants from the home suffer before he disposes of each and every one of them. He wants to prove to all the Wizarding World that no one will defy Lord Voldemort. Pathetic fools, all wrapped up in their own world, with no clue of how easily he could take away everything with just a simple flick on a wand.
Soon they will know that there’s consequences for their actions. A few minutes tick by, before he decides to make his way down the path up towards the door. When he reaches it, he lifts up a thinly pale hand, and proceeds to claw at the door so hard that streaks of his blood trail behind. With one last sneer at the bloody mark that he left on the door, he slips out his wand and prepares himself.
It’s time.
He will be the only one to leave this pathetic excuse of a home. When that happens, he will once and for all have the complete power to do as he pleases, and to dispose of the weak minded all throughout the Wizarding World and eradicate any filth that has the audacity to use a wand. The darkness will rise and forever cast a shadow all over, as his reign of terror reaches new heights for all who dare defy him.
It’s time to finish what he came here to do.
Eliminate. Them. All.
To bring purity back into the Wizarding World, once and for all.
Not wanting to waste another second, Lord Voldemort flicks his wand straight at the center of the door, blasting it straight away and straight across the room. He laughs at the fearful shouts of that blood traitor James Potter, calling out to that filthy Mudblood of his, “Lily, take him and go-”
What a fool. There’s nowhere to hide, nowhere to run… Why couldn’t they understand that no one defies, Lord Voldemort!
Moments Before the Chaos
The house was filled with music and the beautiful giggles of a sweet boy, whose eyes could rival the color of a freshly pickled toad. Nothing could take Lily away from this precious moment between her and her child. Not even the foul smell of burnt food that wafted from the kitchen, a result of her husband’s lack of culinary skill, was strong enough to take her gaze away from her baby.
“Umm, Lils… I hope you don’t mind that dinner is a little bit overcooked,” she heard her husband call out from the kitchen. Shaking her head, “it’s all right love, no worries,” she replied with a chuckle, before adding, "I thought, you said, that you were a master at cooking a savory curry?” Lily said in a mock whisper, while making a goofy face at her little one.
“Oi! I heard that!”
“Good, that means you have great hearing,” Lily chuckled, as she rolled her eyes before turning her attention back at her little one.
“Oh sweetie, I love you so much.’ Lily smiled before caressing his little chubby cheeks. The warmth in the home felt almost surreal, since the past few days have all been the same. So gloomy and dark, that it's hard to distinguish night from day, as it all seemed the same.
Even though the outside was dark, Lily was hopeful that the war will soon end, and then she will be able to take her little baby out to the park and stroll with her husband by her side. There’s absolutely nothing in this world that she wants more than being with them, being able to love freely out in the open without fear of being targeted because of who they are. There’s still a chance to win this war, she knows it. There’s not a dolphin, her mind that the world will be a much safer place, she will not let anything happen to her family.
Lily thought for a second, she looked into those deep green eyes. She runs fingers through the soft black hair, laughing at how it stands up in an odd angle. “We might have to get some Sleekeazy’s, for that hair of yours,” she said before kissing trying to give him a little kiss on the cheek, which was a failed attempt since he kept wiggling and giggling at her.
“Might, want to try some on your-”
Before she could hear what James was going to say, they were interrupted by a loud banging. She turned quickly and saw that the door blasted off at the hinges and flew straight across the room. She heard a loud banging sound as the door slammed straight into the wall, leaving, keeping hole in its wake.
“Lily, take our son and go! He’s here! Go! Run! I’ll hold him off!” James, and shouted with such rawness in his voice, that Lily almost didn’t recognize him. Trying to calm the cries from the baby in her arms, as she tries to hold back her tears as she runs towards the hidden room, before entering, she looked over her shoulder, and saw the cloaked figure enter her home.
How could this happen? How could Peter betray them like this, and how could they be so foolish as to not see the signs of him joining the death eaters? She thought to herself, I should try to calm down, while trying to shake with fear that was coursing through her body, lipid her lip, not caring that she drew blood. The loud firing of spells that could be heard throughout the house, then suddenly it was quiet.
She tried to stay calm she remained seated on the floor, in the hidden room. The tears slowly slipped down her cheeks as her heart ached, as she heard a piercing scream of, “Avada Kedavra!” It shook her to the core as her biggest fear became a reality, she had lost the one that she had ever loved.
“No…no,” she whispered, as tears began to pour down her face, as she imagined the man she loves, lifeless on the cold hard floor. The sound of heavy footsteps drew near, she brought up her wand and pointed straight the killing curse on the tip of your tongue as she waited with bated breath as spells from the hidden room were slowly being removed.
The door slowly opened, the bright light of the whole, showing through, her heart was beating fast, and her body shook as she prepared herself. “Avada Ked-” her words were cut short once she realized who it was standing in front of her.
It wasn’t Voldemort, it was.....

@jilytoberfest so the plan is to write microfics every day for Jilytober- all a part of a single story… this one got way way too long 😬😬😂😂… (and I may mix up these and @magic-girl-in-a-muggle-world’s prompts, depending on what fits!)
Those Smitten Idiots
Tumblr media
Prompt #1: “Smile!”
“For the last time, Sirius, I’m not going to the fucking Hallowe’en Ball with Alphonsus St.John Diggory!” Lily repeated.
Her cheeks had gone blotchy from the suppressed irritation, and she was practically whisper-shouting, which was potentially a total disaster. Seeing as this entire… situation depended on nobody finding out he was the brains behind Operation Smitten Idiots.
“Shush!” Sirius muttered tetchily, scanning the horizon for the twin dangers of James Potter or (potentially worse still) Remus Lupin.
Lily’s eyes widened and she opened her mouth indignantly to protest.
“Do not- “
“Don’t embarrass the poor chap! Not his fault that he’s been turned down by thirteen girls in a row!”
“Thirteen?”
Sirius nodded, adding in a sad huff at the end.
“He’s heartbroken.”
Lily rolled her eyes.
“Well, you’d think- “ she began.
“He failed his DADA exam. And his Charms test.”
Lily hesitated.
“And… his cat died. So did his owl. And his rabbit.”
Sirius grimaced. Okay, so that might be pushing it.
“No way?” Lily looked at him with horror. “The poor fella!”
“Yes, yes, dreadful stuff… caught him shedding bitter tears in the boys’ loos beside Minnie’s office. Bawling.”
He was, in fact, pretty sure that Alphonsus St.John Diggory had never shed a single tear in his entire, boring, perfect life. He was, however, an excellent Quidditch player, and good-looking to boot. Sirius Black might have been forced to call in a few favours for him in order to set this all up…
He could practically see her relenting.
“Don’t say a word though, he’d be mortified. Asked me not to breathe a word to anyone.”
“And he knows I’m only agreeing to go as a friend?” Lily bit her lower lip.
“Of course, I expressly warned him that I’d murder him if he so much as looked at you funny and- “
“Oh shut up, poor guy, imagine having to listen to your drivel when three of his pets died,” she said, her face taking on a determined expression.
Just then, James Fleamont “I could have asked Evans to the ball and we all know she’d have said yes immediately but I’m either an idiot or a spineless coward so I didn’t bother” Potter walked into the great hall. Wearing his dress robes which Sirius had secretly charmed to cling to his shoulders and back and chest like a certain quidditch uniform which Lily Evans was want to stare at. Lily’s mouth - as if on cue - hung open.
“Six. Six pets. I forgot to mention his pet lambs,” he said, taking her arm and walking in the direction of Himbo Diggory.
“Six?” Her eyebrows shot up and she tore herself away from staring at his useless best friend. “Lambs?”
Only Prongs was now rooted to the spot like a pillar of salt, or a giant stunned Pygmy Puff.
“Seven, if you count his pet rat, which I wasn’t.”
“You… what? How very DARE you!” Peter Pettigrew yelped in alarm.
“They’re highly intelligent animals!” Lily and Peter shouted in unison.
“Well, whatever,” he sniffed, smoothing out his dress robes. “I suppose it’s a loss.. used sleep next to his bed, near the rabbit… and the cat.”
“OMG!” Lily elbowed him rudely. “The poor guy!”
She straightened her shoulders, took one last forlorn glance at the useless article with the messy hair, took a deep breath, and tapped the himbo on the shoulder. Got to hand it to Evans, she has guts, he thought.
“Hi Alphonsus,” she said, trying to stretch her lips upwards.
“Hello, Miss Evans,” the guy said, looking over her shoulder at Sirius and winking far too dramatically.
He mimed zipping up his mouth and cutting his throat for good measure. Alphonsus frowned but nodded, looking slightly more subdued.
“A dance?” Alphonsus said, giving Lily a pitying look.
“Of course.”
“Smile!” Cressida Creevy waved her arm wildly before taking the shot.
“What the absolute fuck?” James Potter finally asked, gulping down an entire glass of fire whisky in one go and grabbing a second one.
“No idea, old chap,” he said, elegantly sipping some wine and raising the glass at the couple. “I think he fancies her, and nobody asked her, so she said yes. Has a thing for Quidditch players, apparently.”
His friend said nothing, tugged at his bird’s nest hair, and muttering distraught expletives under his breath.
“Why, you weren’t planning on asking Evans, were you? I thought you were, and I quote, just good friends?”
The reply was in gibberish, although in fairness Prongs was choking on his fire whisky at the time.
“All good, so?” he said, whacking Prongs twice on the back for good measure. “Splendid. Well, enjoy the night, they certainly seem to be.”
Alphonsus patted Lily on the shoulder in a comforting fashion as they glided by. She smiled back fondly.
“Probably discussing some personal problems, a problem shared is a problem halved, and all that,” he supplied helpfully.
“Fuckfuckfuck,” Prongs hacked up a lung.
Sirius wandered off. Prongs picked up an entire bottle of fire whisky.
“Parfaitement joué,” Sirius smiled to himself. “And onto plan number two…”

“Already? It’s only been two days.”
Jilytober Day 1: “Already? It’s only been two days.”
Rated: T (but could probably be K+)
from @magic-girl-in-a-muggle-world prompts for jilytober!
@jilytoberfest
Sep 3rd, Hogwarts library
Lily can’t shake the feeling of… well she’s not exactly sure how to label it. Stomach feeling naus– no not nauseous, but in knots of some kind, twisting and tumbling into a large ball. And she’s feeling…well, not feverish Mary confirmed this morning, maybe… flush? There’s a heat that she can feel creep up her neck and flaming in her cheeks. And then there’s the problem with her heart. The drumming that pounds her ears is deafening at worst and distracting at the least. Mary also had to talk her down that she was not, in fact, having heart palpitations.
The worst part of it all… her symptoms are seemingly triggered by none other than Jam– Potter, she mentally self corrects.
Surely, this cannot be true. They had been getting along so well! A budding camaraderie, if not friendship, had started to blossom between them ever since final exams at the end of sixth year. But something about the start of 7th year, seemed off–, erm no, well yes, but no… but definitely different…somehow.
Lily lets her quill drop to the shared library table, both hands used to massage her temples. She pretends not to notice the pointed glances Mary and Marlene share right next to her.
What was James– she clocks the mental use of first names,-- doing to ruffle her up differently than usual? What was he doing to make her skin stand on end, erm no not that, Lily feels her lips pursed in frustration, fists gripping her hair while she internally debates. What on earth was he doing that gave her …goosebumps?
Her eyes dart open and an audible gasp escapes her lips.
Dorcas looks up from her parchment, 10 inches assigned to them all from McGonagall, Practical uses of Transfiguration in the domestic setting, “You alright, Lil?”
“I have a crush on James Potter,” Lily whispers, truly to no one else’s surprise.
“Already? It’s only been two days,” Marlene pouts.
“The over under line for you to realize this was two and a half weeks,” Mary informs Lily, “I’m the winner with under 7 days.”

Question... do I post the 6000+-word prologue of my @jilytoberfest romcom fic 10 Things I Hate About You tonight or do I wait until I've finished Part 2 and 3 and post the thing in one go? (Just for your information... the plan is to complete the fic by Friday, so I would be posting Part 2 and 3 soon anyway.)

love, james || chapter 3

love, james || chapter 3: surely all the maps have been made
James likes Lily. And Lily likes James. How the hell did it get so complicated?
Love, Rosie, but make it Jily. Written for the Jilytoberfest 2023 Rom-Com Event.

The leavers’ dance, by all accounts, was a resounding success.  At least in Lily’s opinion it was.  How she and James had managed to find time to plan the damn thing between studying for their N.E.W.T.s, Quidditch, and their actual Head duties was beyond her.  Perhaps it was because they were so busy.  Lily often thought she thrived when she was the most stressed.  Perhaps that was why she was so miserable tonight.
