Dad!Nico x Reader
A/n: For all my Devs fans that need some soft thoughts tonight 🫶

Thinking about Jersey Leeds Nico coming home from the game tonight all head hung low and droopy eyes.
Jersey is already asleep, the two of you having left the arena early tonight in order to keep her sleep schedule going smoothly.
Nico finds you in the bedroom, dragging his feet until he’s in the doorway and you look up from where you’re doing laundry on the bed to his sad pleading eyes watching you.
“Oh come here my darling,” you coo, immediately holding out your arms for him. Nico curls into you, lets you hold him as he just sags under the weight of the season. You coax him into the bathroom, peeling him out of his suit and shoes with tender fingers before running him a bath.
Nico pouts as he lays in the warm water, feeling pathetic with you sitting on the tile floor beside the tub. Stroking through his over grown hair, you don’t push him to speak and instead allow him to wallow and sink into that empty feeling in his tummy.
A moment passes, the baby monitor on the counter crackles and Nico glances over at it with wet eyes.
“She’s fine,” you assure him, but he knows that. Jersey’s developing the habit of babbling in her sleep and it always disturbs the monitor.
“I’m sad,” Nico finally mumbles. “Wanted a cup for the team, for her, for you . . . M’just pouting in a bathtub now.”
You don’t say anything, just let him speak. By the way his gaze has unfocused you know he’s just venting his thoughts, the things he couldn’t say to media today.
“Last year was the best year of my life. We were good, I was playing and feeling good. Jersey, god don’t get me started on Jersey. She deserves so much better-“
Frowning, you cup his jaw and make him look at you. “Jersey loves her daddy,” you insist “she’s so proud of you and loves watching you play. There’s always set backs Nico, always mistakes and failures, but you have not failed at being an amazing father to our daughter.”
Blinking softly, Nico sniffles and nods, pressing into your palm. “I want to see her,” he tells you “but I don’t want to wake her.”
Shrugging, you get up and motion for him to get out of the tub. You wrap him up in a towel, draining the water while he dries off and slips on some boxers and shorts.
Then, on careful tiptoes you sneak into the nursery where Jersey’s little snores are filling the air. The ballerina nightlight casts silhouettes of dancers and bows on the roof and walls, bathes the room in a peaceful glow.
Nico sneaks up beside her crib, grips the side of it in his hands and peers down at her. You press into his side, an arm around him to rub up and down his bare back.
Jersey is sleeping peacefully, thick eyelashes brushing her cherub cheeks and her lips quiver as she coos little noises to herself.
“That’s your fault,” you whisper fondly “all those bedtime nonsense stories when she was in my belly and now she can’t sleep without talking.”
That empty part in him shrinks, fills up with the love swelling in his heart. Everyday she gets bigger and bigger, and with that his adoration and devotion to being her father grows with it.
A year later and she’s his proudest accomplishment. And he thinks that no amount of Stanley Cups, goals, medals or playoffs appearances can ever top that.
Nico Hischier didn’t win on the ice this season, but he won at everything else.

🍑 [PEACH] How do they show their kindness? How kind are they truly?
Cinis Sacare
I’ll be honest. The guy’s kinda fucked. tl;dr the guy may or may not be mostly plant and rot now and he sort of lives as a solitary “ye olde monster in the woods” guy but
I think he shows his kindness by protection or service methinks :] he used to be a paladin before the whole zombie thing so if he returns back to that and takes a hit for you instead of staying at a distance? It means something.
I do think that he’s a good guy deep down. Always has been, methinks. Now though, he doesn’t show that side of him often. He’s become pretty jaded.
Jersey Leeds
Jersey’s definitely a quality time kind of guy! He’ll show his kindness through wanting to go places, do things, and just generally hang out. He also talks. A lot. I’d imagine he gives a lot of compliments, but also sort of will just go on tangents and explain things that he thinks are interesting to people who he cares about so they can also be in the know.
He tends to wear his heart on his sleeve, and he’s a genuinely kind guy! Maybe a bit “high intelligence / low wisdom” though. He’s pretty friendly to most people, however, so I think it can sometimes come off as insincere.
Drafty Shipshape
I feel like Drafty would show kindness by like. Actually learning about people, oddly enough? It’s common courtesy, but given how their presence usually indicates that someone is either going to a) die or b) somehow suffer a fate worse than death, asking someone about what they like to do or even something like their favorite food is a luxury. Knowing more about someone makes it hurt more when you know what’s going to happen to them; some people are worth remembering even still, methinks.
It’s a little hard to say whether Drafty is kind or not, I think. They show kindness, but I think a lot is more out of fondness than anything. They’re about as kind as the sea itself, I think, as cryptic as that is?
The Knight / The Trojan Horse
They probably show their kindness through respect I think. I mean, yeah, they generally show respect to most and are pretty cordial, but if they act as if you’re an equal and actually have conversations with you that aren’t strictly business then that’s as close as you’ll get to their kindness. Another possibility is (by their standards) “Immortalizing” someone in the Hall of Champions. That’s the greatest kindness they can give!! wait what do you mean turning people into statues and keeping them in a museum for all eternity isn’t kind
The Knight isn’t kind at all, I think. They’re cordial? But they aren’t kind. They view things strategically and always look for what will get them the best outcome. Any sort of “kindness” is merciful or necessary, in their eyes.

The legend of the Jersey devil starts with the Leeds family of New Jersey. Daniel Leeds began publishing almanacs, which were considered heretical by the surrounding Quaker community due to things like references to Pagan gods. The Quakers censored the books, but Leeds decided to continue, moving to the area he would name Leeds Point. His son, Titan, would continue to publish almanacs while feuding with Benjamin Franklin who would go on to falsely predict his death and then claim him to be an impersonator. The accusations of the community probably led to the Jersey Devil legend with some of the traits coming from the Leeds family crest which contained wyverns. The Jersey Devil himself AKA the Leeds Devil, is said to be the 13th child of “mother Leeds” (thought to be a reference to Debora Leeds who had 12 children)
Though various sightings of the Jersey Devil were reported throughout the 1800s, a number of reports in 1909 are the main source of the legend as we know it today. Newspapers of the time printed multiple articles about the creatures, showing trains of hoofprints or reporting on attacks. One man was even said to have caught and displayed the creature, though later in life would admit that he had merely disguised a kangaroo.

Meet Leeds, they're very tall and silly. It does not like to fight ONE BIT. They're also based off the Jersey devil, hence the name.
