Hey, guys. So, I dived into The Wingfeather Saga recently, LOVED the first book, and right now I'm currently reading the second one. I didn't dive into the fandom yet especially not on tumblr so I won't get spoiled, but I need to ask y'all a question.

Why are the characters sometimes refering to Tink as "Kalmar"? Is it like, his second name or something? Something they call the kings? Or is it something else I missed? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm just confused, they called him that like three times now and I don't really get it😭😭😭 can someone explain to me pls?

So I saw you've read the Wingfeather Saga too.

What are your "romantic"/ship headcanons for the characters in the series?

okay okay, so the characters haven't really grown up in my head? If that makes sense? So I haven't put too much thought into them when they're older, but I have some stuff.

-Marley (lmao I'm not sure if that's how to spell it): She's a real independent type, but one time she saves this little sweetheart baker boy who falls head over heels for her. He then spends a ridiculous amount of time trying to win her heart with bread. (It's working, but she'd rather slit her own throat than admit it).

-If not a baker boy, then a strander kid she helps out and shows a better life to like what happened to her <3

-Kalmar obviously gets in a lot of trouble from time to time, but once he's older his crush/lover can give him a LOOK and he chills out (at least for a little while)

-(I can hardly think about him but) Janner. He's the type to write an absurd amount of love letters and never send them. Then his crush/lover finds his stash one day and is just like "what on earth"

THE SIXTH EPISODE CAME OUT GUYS!!!!

I can't believe it, how long are we gonna have to wait for Season 2!?

Nia sang my love has gone across the sea!? I thought we wouldn't hear that until season 3 or whenever they come out with Book 3 on screen. Or maybe it'll come than too. Idk, but I'm very happy about it. I mean, MY EYES LEAKED and I'm kinda hoping my family didn't notice but someone probably did

AND PEET! MY BOY! He gave too much water to Nugget (AND IT WAS EXACTLY LIKE MOZART THE MEERKITTENS STORY!!) And like, it incorporated all of Peet's (and probably Artham's) awkwardness and fierceness and protectiveness and As jsdbjsosjeieu

Also Peet was prolly done with Podo and Nia not saying anything about the kids being the jewels so he just jumped out there and was like “you are :D". he's so precious

They still included Esbens letter! I mean it's probably obvious that they would , but still

Also the First Book looked different than I expected but I absolutely loved its design. And Esben's sketchbook!! Leeli's whistleharp!!

I know, I know, you all are probably like “Arent you on a break?? What're you doing here??" But, uh, I just had to say something about this episode

Hmmmmmm, recently there's been two.

The first is the Kingkiler Chronicle: it's about a orphan bard kid named Kvothe who goes to a magical university to learn about what killed his family, and a big part of the story is truth being uncovered through children's playground rhymes and other folk songs nobody (important) pays any attention to. It inspired me to write some songs for Runaways, especially because music such a big part of the story already! Kvothe is a drama king it's very funny but otherwise not that similar to Runaways. Very good book though.

I've also been really obsessed with the Wingfeather Saga. I found it through the new animated TV show - it got crowdfunded and released for free(!) on the Angel app which is very cool, and I was watching it with my siblings when I was last home. They watch a lot of obnoxious kids shows but I really liked this one. The animation style is adorable and the story was good, but it left me on a plot twist and a cliffhanger so of course I had to go find the book series that it was adapted from. And it's genius.

The story follows the Igiby family as they try to survive under the rule of the evil Fangs of Dang, then go on the run once the Fangs start hunting them down (for plot reasons). The family is a pirate grandfather named Podo, their long suffering and strong mother Nia, the oldest bookish protector, Janner, the impulsive sporty middle child, Tink aka Kalmar, and the Too Pure For This Sinful World youngest musician, Leeli. Both Podo and Leeli are disabled but it's handled in a great way throughout the series. It subverts a lot of the usual fairytale tropes in brilliant ways without ever feeling jarring.

The story is told through Janner's POV mostly, and it is possibly the most relatable oldest sibling experience I've ever read. Please get this kid some hot chocolate and a nap ASAP please I love him. There's a lot of themes about "I am my brother's keeper" and music being the thing that connects the three kids and "remember who you are" with names. The tone is the perfect balance of sincere and heartwarming and terrifying and silly. I want people to feel like this when they're reading Runaways.
